Anyone else bone-achingly tired of romance books using the miscommunication troupe as an alternative to character development?
Just a note: resolved misunderstanding is not the same as character development. Having your main story people use their speaky words to make mix-up go away does not make for a level up.

"Defeating the Dictators: How Democracy Can Prevail in the Age of Strongman," by Charles Dunst, is a compelling and thought-provoking book that provides a comprehensive analysis of the factors that contribute to the rise and fall of authoritarian regimes, as well as successful democratization strategies and tactics. The book is divided into eight chapters, each examining a distinct element of the anti-dictatorship fight in depth. Overall, Defeating the Dictators is an extraordinary, compelling, and pragmatic analysis of the authoritarianism versus democracy debate that builds its case by drawing on the vulnerabilities and strengths of our opponents. It is essential reading for anyone concerned about the triumph of global democracy. Get your copy now. I am finally back on track after a very long reading slump. When I started this book I knew it would not be the best choice to get rid of my slump but at the same time, I really wanted to read it. This would be my first self-growth book review and I am very excited to share it. Dale is truly an amazing writer and lecturer. His lessons are the type of lessons that will never get too old and that is why the book keeps selling and leaders continue to learn from it. ✨ I annotated a lot in this book as you can see in the photos as well. Some of his best quotes and references are: 🔴 ‘A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.’ 🔴 ’When two partners always agree, one of them is not necessarily.’ 🔴 ‘You can measure the size of a person by what makes him or her angry.’ Have you read this book? What are your thoughts about it? I’d love to hear more opinions. 😌 Link for my full review in bio ❤️ #cloudwrites . . . . . . . . #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewer #igbookreview #bookreviewers #bookreviewblog #bookreviewersofinstagram #minibookreview #picturebookreview #bookreviewblogger #audiobookreview #instabookreview #bookreviewing #bookreviewerswanted #yabookreview #newyorktimesbookreview #bookreviewsofinstagram #ebookreview #nytimesbookreview #30secondbookreview #bookreviewswanted #newbookreview #coffeeandbooks #bookstagrammer #books #bookstagram #booklover #bookloversalways #bookcommunity (at Bookstagram) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoP2Jvmrhcp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This text describes a retelling of the story of a queen who was born into royalty but married a tyrant. After experiencing tragedy and injustice, she begins to plot for vengeance. The story is about acceptance and getting even, and the main character is a strong woman who can be both good and bad. This retelling combines elements of the stories of Circe and Cersei Lannister, and offers a unique perspective on a well-known character from ancient history.

BOOK REVIEW : Escape from Magic (Unstable Magic Book 5)
Emily Bybee Published October 20th 2022
Tumblr media
Clara has a dream : land the lead in the high school musical, Grease. As her dream comes true, she meets the handsome Sam, and falls in love. But Clara isn’t like other teenagers. She is a witch. And according to witch’s laws, she is supposed to marry a guy she has never met in a few weeks. Defying the council’s authority, Clara and Sam escape, without imagining the terrible consequences and punishment that will follow.
It is the second book of the Unstable Magic series I read, and I was not disappointed. Emily Bybee has an incredible talent to create extraordinary characters evolving in a world where humans and witches coexist. Even if all the books can be read individually, each of them focusing on a different character, they all form together a perfect coherence, moving forward in the Unstable Magic universe and story.
Clara and Sam’s story is sad and dramatic, a reflection of the dark and heartless laws of the witch’s world . But is also full of hope, as the revolt rumbles and the resistance sets up among the witches. I am really curious to know what will come next. But one thing is certain : I am in love with Emily’s characters.

[👫🏼] Reasons why you may be struggling in relationships as a perfectionist 1. Critical of partner - Perfectionists are often highly critical of themselves. When in a relationship, they can expand this thought process to their partner. It may be difficult for them to fully accept their partner as who they are without trying to change or control them. 2. Fear of intimacy - Being vulnerable can be hard as they fear the partner seeing them as less than a "perfect partner". Being vulnerable means showing flaws or weaknesses. To the perfectionist, this may result in rejection. 3. Reactivity - It can be hard for perfectionists to take feedback or have their opinions challenged which can leave their partner left feeling unheard or silenced. ♥️If you're having relationship issues due to your imposter syndrome and want to chat, send me a DM • • • • • • #impostersyndrome #relationshipadviceforwomen #perfectionist #perfectionismrecovery #toxicrelationships #relationshipissues #gethelp #confidenceisbeautiful #peoplepleasingproblems #blogtoronto #blogto #ontariotravel #bookreviewsofinstagram #moviereviews (at Kitchener, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/Clj47A2Puw6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today is We Love Memoirs Day so I thought I'd share one of my favorites. God Is a Black Woman is theologian, and social psychologist Christena Cleveland's personal journey to dismantle of the white male God. She does this by going on a trek across Europe to find ancient shrines to the black Madonna statues and connect to the Sacred Black Feminine. She introduces the idea of a black female God that black women can pray to for strength and liberation. 🖤 Until I read I hadn't known about the Black Madonna's in Europe. I had some knowledge of the Divine Feminine but had never thought of her being a black woman. I found Cleveland's determination inspiring. She talks a lot about her career as a theologian writing for Christian magazines and organizations and their censorship of her articles about racial injustice. As social psychologist she also employed to help companies with their diversity training and the absurdities she was forced trying to teach people how to not be racist. And finally she talks about her journey out of a toxic relationship with the "god" she'd been raised to believe in. I loved this book and would recommend to anyone curious about how they relate to their god. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookstagram #books #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookreader #welovememoirsday #memoir #memoirs #divinefeminine #divinefeminineenergy #theology #bookish #reading #readersofinstagram #readersofig #bookreviews #bookreviewsofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch7IDXoLLdb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A New History of India by writers Rudrangshu Mukherjee, Shobita Punja, and Toby Sinclair about the history of India in the modern era might be called a modern-day encyclopedia, particularly for Indians. Starting with the country's geological origins a few billion years ago and the migration of Homo sapiens from Africa into the region a few millennia ago, the book covers all of the key historical events from ancient times up to the twenty-first century. ‘𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐹𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑄𝑢𝑒𝑒𝑛'𝑠 𝐷𝑦𝑛𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑦 by @kavitakane is all about the story of the grand matriarch of the Kuru family, the woman who set off the sequences of events that ended in the bloody battle of Kurukshetra, the queen of Hastinapur, Satyavati. I was intrigued with mythology ever since I was a kid, and I'm sure every Indian kid has grown up listening to the epic Mahabharata. But there are some characters that are lesser known like Satyavati and this book is a peek into her life, her side of the story. It also tells us more about Bhishma and his perspective. It's a lovely book and I read it in one day! It has so many unknown facts about Mahabharata and is beautifully written with simple words. Highly recommend it to people who like mythological fiction.’- Posted @withregram • @thatindianreader 🏷 #kavitakane #thefisherqueensdynasty #mahabharata #indianmythology #womenauthorsofindia #igbooks #booklover #readersofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #booksonbooks #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewer #bookreviewsofinstagram #bookreviewersofinstagram #bibliophile #booknerd #bookaddict #bookrecommendations #igbookclubs #unitedbookstagram #indianbookstagrammer #bookstagram #newbookstagram #newbookstagrammer #followforfollowback #bookishfollowtrain https://www.instagram.com/p/ChTuvWaLHH6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🚨 Book Review Alert! 🚨 The most obvious obstacle in front of me when I opened this book was the style. A rampant lack of quotation marks and an absurd amount of run-on sentences had me wondering whether or not grammatical conventions were ever really all that important. It is a boring, drawn out, and borderline insufferable narrative structure to set the story upon. It works frustratingly well for the premise. If you can find it in you to get past the way that the book is written; if you can find it in you to ignore the lack of answers to the hundreds of thousands of questions you’ll undoubtedly have; if you can find it in you to give the book a chance, it might just be worth it. Heavily religious novels and painfully overt commentaries on contemporary political ideologies are not subjects I ever really enjoy reading about. Dystopian fiction is about the one genre in which I readily permit the latter’s existence, though I seldom tolerate the former at all (thank you, religious trauma). I am making an exception for this book. No, you will not receive a plot-rich story if you indulge in the contents of this title. You will not receive a fully fleshed out, fully realized grasp on the world in which it was conceived. You will not experience the world through a reliable lens—because let’s face it, our narrator is anything but. Her flaws make her interesting. She is morally shifted, selfish in her desires to survive, equally faithful and faithless. I am tired of experiencing a dystopian in which the main subject of my attention in a young, morally righteous woman. To me, Offred is a breath of fresh air. It’s dystopian, yes, but for the first time in many years I couldn’t immediately see where the ending was going simply because the main character was no longer a stereotypical copy and paste of the genre’s running cliché. Speaking of that ending—the cutoff was entirely and utterly out of nowhere. I’ll have to pick up the sequel soon. #book #bookreview #review #bookstagram #books #booklover #bookworm #bookreviews #bookreviewer #bookstoread #booksofinsta #bookseries #booksreview #bookreviewsofinstagram #author #authorlife #writerreview #authorreviews (at My Library) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg7D-GMLoSs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
