Regulus is drunk. Very drunk. James has seen him tipsy a few times but never this drunk. Regulus is very drunk and currently cuddled up beside James, practically sitting in his lap. 

James looks over at Barty who seems to be very amused with the whole situation. “Is he always like this?” James asks him.

“He’s a cuddly drunk.” Barty tells him with a shrug. “Although, I will say, this is a bit more than normal.”

“Reggie, back off a bit, yeah? I’m sure James doesn’t want you hanging all over him.” Sirius chimes in.

“He… uh… He’s fine Sirius.” James tells him, trying to suppress the blush he knows is working its way to his cheeks. 

“Yeah, he’s fine Sirius.” Regulus mocks Sirius, slurring his words and cuddling even closer, laying his head on James’ chest. 

“James! Are you okay?!” Regulus sits up quickly and looks at James with real concern in his eyes.

“Uh… yeah, why?”

“I think you’re having a heart attack!” Regulus exclaims in a panic.

“What?” James asks, genuinely confused.

“Your heart is beating really fast! It’s like, boom boom boomboomboomboom! That cannot be normal!” Regulus is truly distressed as he places his hand over James’ heart and looks at him with wide eyes.         

James knows he can’t hold his blush in any longer and he feels his entire face growing hot. 

“Oh, I think it’s perfectly normal for how he’s feeling right now.” Barty says with a knowing smirk.       

Regulus regards his friend for a moment then looks back at James seemingly unconvinced but ultimately lets it go and lays his head back down. 

“Well, stop it.” Regulus commands James with a yawn, “I want to stay here, but your heart is really distracting.” He mumbles, his voice is getting soft, and he seems to be falling asleep.

After a moment, Regulus snuggles even closer to James and just as he drifts off to sleep, he whispers “Your heart is always distracting me.”
