um, hey @staff, I’ve been on his hellsite for over a decade and never reached out like this before but this situation requires it. There’s a serious bot following spam problem right now. It’s worse than the previous spam bot issue.

They pop up in batches of like 10+ and for every block and report more appear and they multiply. today alone I went from 777 followers to 1090 and all of those are bots.

I’m not even joking. It’s frustrating, and blocking and reporting takes such a long time when you’re combing through literally hundreds of bots on your follow list tapping through the report and block process

I’m not the only blog this is happening to. I’ve messaged support but got the automated message saying y’all are working on a permanent solution, but can y’all please come up with a patch or a temporary solution because this is out of hand? Can you make it so we can batch block and report at least? I appreciate the work you’ve done so far, and I hope this can be resolved because this is sucking the fun out of this hellsite I’ve called home since 2010

My dudes, the bot invasion has gotten so bad that if you follow me and have an empty blog I’m now automatically assuming you’re a dodgy bot. I’m basically reporting every new follower as spam and blocking atm.

If you’re a tumblr newbie PLEASE reblog something, anything! Distinguish yourself from the bot invasion!

Hey, everyone! Please note that the newest batch of pornbots has hatched. Blogs that used to be empty other than a profile picture and a short description now have posts, most often explicit videos.

These blogs don't seem to be following people anymore, but my notes are absolutely full of likes from pornbot blogs. It's still a good idea to report and block, but be aware that you're going to see some stuff while you do.

I know some of you are minors with nosy parents or parents with nosy minors, so please be careful and pay attention to who is around when you're clicking on profiles to report and block!

I just blocked the most convincing clanker yet. If they weren't trying to convince me they're 147 years old, I would have thought they were just a memelord.

Heads-up, the bots have started to get more tumblr-ified usernames and are putting slightly more effort into having blog themes/tumblr-friendly profile pictures. Many of them still have blank blogs.

Okay, the bots are getting annoying. I just spent half an hour blocking 53 of the 62 new followers I gained in the last 24 hours 🙃

This has been said far more succinctly by others, so I won't go into intense details here. I'm confident every blog I've blocked so far has been a bot, but I want to cover my bases.

I don't have time to analyze whether you're a real person who slapped a cute picture on their blog and thought they were done. In case that describes you, you're not done. Write something in your bio, make a post, reblog something.

That last option makes it even easier for me to make a decision. If I click on your blog and it's suspiciously empty AND I see you haven't reblogged anything? You're either a bot or you're a real person... but a person who's going to read things I post and not do anything more than toss an occasional like my way. I don't feel bad about blocking you either way. Follower counts are irrelevant, I want followers who are going to interact with me and my work.

Weird stance to take, but if you're not interacting with anyone/anything on the site, you're as good as a bot to me and you'll be blocked like you are one.
