We open on sexy swashbuckling STEDE then very quickly we see the reality of STEDE working at Spanish Jackie’s for a place to sleep. We made his dashing sash from a gorgeous brocade fabric with brass fringe detail. If you look closely at his Maitre de look you’ll notice his neckerchief is made of the very same brocade and fringe but broken down to buggary! STEDES sexy pirate shirt was reminiscent of a mills and boon cover. I made sure to incorporate sashes and ties and collars that could billow romantically in the wind. @annadeacon76 cut the most perfect blouse pattern for @rhysiedarby that hit all the romantic notes. An Observation of Fashion Trends on the Xianzhou Zhuming

So I was squinting at a certain quartet's designs again (a recurring activity. I love this disjointed family) and I may have found a new set of dots to connect!

I believe the Zhuming's "design signature" -what sets it apart from the Luofu and other Xianzhou ships, that is- is the prominent use of metal in their clothing, whether as embroidered patterns or accessories and adornments (especially ones made from what seems to be brass).

cmiiw on that tho; I can't distinguish colors all too well.

Yunli is the most obvious example with all the bits and bobs all over her fit- the skirt pattern, the tiara, the hairclip, the ornaments on her top and the side of the skirt, the sleeves, the bracelets along the.... handguards(?), and the straps on her legs too.

Now, this might be less apparent at first sight, but Ren (and by extension Yingxing; he wore the same coat with the same metallic patterns) has just as many brass accessories, if not even more!

I count exactly 15 clasps -11 of which have the same stylized eye shape- on the front and the back, and his thigh strap is also metallic (because style over comfort. lmao).

This probably could've been written off as a mere coincidence with just 2 characters, but then the 2.4 livestream dropped with new models, and it turns out General Huaiyan also has metallic patterns and wears a little clip! It even matches the ones in Yunli's hair!

This could, of course, be explained as something he's passed down only to his disciples, but I think it's more likely to be common among the Zhuming's citizens- a fashion trend, as the post title suggests. Think about it; fashion is as much an expression of the self as arts and crafts can be, so it does make sense for the people renowned for their craftsmanship to incorporate hints of that in how they dress!

(TL;DR: The Zhuming fam have amazing fashion sense and I need to visit them already. When will we board the Zhuming....)

Lookism reacting to S/O getting hurt

Jake Kim

So much guilt at seeing you getting hurt regardless of whether it was a direct consequence of being with him or not.

Starts doubting the relationship. Not because he doesn't love you, because he does. So so much. But your safety is his number one concern and he would rather lose you than put you in any more danger.

The guilt piles on when he realises that you are consoling and comforting him, when it should be the other way round. You talk to him and tell him that there's nowhere else you'd rather be than by his side. The remorse lessens, ever so slightly.

While you're recovering, Jake clears his schedule to make sure he can spend all his time with you. Puts on an extra brave face to make you smile and laugh at his silliness. Laughter is meant to be the best medicine, after all.

In the meantime, there are strict orders to the rest of the crew to make sure that the person pays for what they have done to you.

Samuel Seo

After making sure you're ok and well on your way to recovery, the first thing he would do is find out exactly who injured you and where they are.

Doesn't care about exactly why you are injured, just that the person is punished for harming you. How dare they harm what is his. How dare they even touch you.

The second thing he does is grab his brass knuckles to rain hellfire. He doesn't involve anyone else. It's personal. Samuel does all the talking with his punches until they are left dead, or wishing they're dead.

Insecurities and doubts start to kick in after the dust has settled. Why isn't he strong enough to protect you in the first place? Your words of reassurance, as usual, always does wonders for his inferiority complex. He would be lost without you by his side.

Doesn't let you out of his sight when you are healing, and completes all his work from home. You're touched. You know how ambitious he is, so to put you above everything else shows how much he loves you.

Warren Chae

Completely shaken up by what has happened. No doubt he will exact his revenge but will be left traumatised by the incident.

He swore to protect you and he's failed to do so? How could he think of himself as your partner. What's the point in telling people about his wins/losses/draws? The stupid ratio doesn't matter if he loses you.

Struggles with omitting words even more after this, and trains harder than ever to get stronger. Absolutely dotes on you 24/7 until you are better and also beyond.

Similar to Jake and Samuel, you need to comfort and console him about his insecurities. How you can't plan for every eventuality, Warren can't be with you all the time even if he tries. Together, you build his confidence back up.

The first time he speaks to you in a full sentence again, you cry. He didn't think it was possible to love you anymore.

Gun Park

Immediately checks that it's not fatal. If it is, he will rush you to emergency care. If not, then he will be chasing after the attacker.

Either way, it all ends up the same way for the person who hurt you. There is no mercy, he will burn the place down to the ground to find out who it is and kill them. If they're affiliated with someone, then consequences be damned.

If by some stroke of luck they manage to evade Gun, then he will happily spend the rest of his life tracking them down.

Surprisingly caring when you are recovering, making sure your every need and whim is tended to. To be honest, gets extremely overbearing. You wouldn't be allowed to go to the bathroom on your own if you didn't insist.

This side of him doesn't come out often though so you try and take advantage. Gun knows this and lets you anyway.

Goo Kim

Absolute seek and destroy. Goo hates people touching things that are his. There is no way whoever harmed you is getting away, and especially not with a painless death.

The sadistic side of his character really comes out. He wants to see your attacker beg for death. For every moment left in their pitiful life to be hell on earth. To see the light finally go out in their eyes. And he wants to be responsible for all that.

A complete 180 from this is the way he is with you when you are recovering. Your every wish is his command.

Goo will stick to your side like the strongest superglue known to mankind. You are never getting a moment of peace for the foreseeable. It's annoying and cute in equal measures.

Underneath the clinginess is a whole lotta love and worry, so you take it in stride.

Okay, another Rails of the Realm song, this time it's an overworld theme! This track specifically represents the overworld rail theme for the Gerudo Desert and Canyon. I used classical guitar and Appalachian dulcimer to get the desert effect, but it's not Gerudo without the brass that comes in the second half! I also pulled from Ocarina of Time for this track, because how could I not incorporate THE song of the franchise, Gerudo Valley, in a Gerudo song? Oh, and the chugging stays on, of course.

Scent Freak Hannibal (Holes in the Floor of the Mind)

Hannibal is 10x more freakish about smells in the books, and it manifests in some subtle ways in the show.

Hannibal's characterization as a lovable serial killer is a brilliant literary feat. Part of what makes him so likable is how receptive he is to sensation. He's almost childlike in how he experiences the world. His narration is so vivid with description that it makes him seem more alive, more human, than the other characters, whose inner voices are dull and flat by comparison. He is powerfully influenced by sights, sounds, textures, and especially smells, all leading to memory. It's very Proustian and psychological.

Red Dragon

Aside from the iconic aftershave dig, Hannibal uses scent to decide to get Will's home address. This is the very first peek into Hannibal's POV we get in the series:

First mention of Hannibal's nemesis: the toilet (more on that later). They cleaned his toilet with Clorox -> bleach -> semen -> irritating man scent -> Will Graham

Will smells like teaweed, which grows in the southeast US -> Hannibal is thinking about where Will might live (Florida). (Like how Hannibal smells pine on Will in the show.)

Hannibal can smell Will's thoughts which are warm and brassy

Will's warm, brass thoughts are incorporated in the show! Will's silver pendulum, as it was described in the book, was changed to yellow. In season 1, whenever we enter his crime scene reconstruction POV, the lighting completely changes and there's a warm filter:

(I also like to interpret the shift in warmth as Will feeling more alive when he's closer to a killer's thoughts, but that's just me)

The Stool Pit

One thing the show didn't explore was Hannibal's worst sensory nightmare: feces. For him, stool is closely linked to both prison ("watching the diaper cart go by") and the horrific death of his sister. In Hannibal, the scent of a soiled diaper on a airplane gives him a traumatic flashback dream about Mischa:

The "holes in the floor" of Hannibal's memory palace are oubliettes, dungeons where he stores all his bad memories to forget about them:

Even though Hannibal probably didn't see Mischa's teeth in the stool pit in the show (since his backstory was changed), it's alluded to with Alana's threat to take his toilet (his entire toilet, not just the seat like in the book).

This line is mostly a quote from The Silence of the Lambs, except for "the company of the dead" addition. It leads straight into one of Hannibal's flashbacks about Abigail. Based on how the lights black out, I can only assume Hannibal's memories about Abigail are negative. Is he falling down the rank oubliettes of his mind when he thinks of her? Does he regret killing her at all? We can only guess.

Knowing this, the proximity of the toilet to his prison bed is crazy. They had a huge room to put his bed anywhere, and they chose to put it right next to the toilet? Lol.

Cleanliness

Clean smells are Hannibal's favorite thing, hands down. They are in direct opposition to the stool pit, and a metaphor for innocence, purity, washing away sins, etc. The first thing we see him do after killing Abigail is take a shower, washing blood from his skin, washing away the past...

He loves the soap and lotion store in Florence (the Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella), "one of the best-smelling places on Earth," because it takes him away from bad memories.

The copper bathtub from season 3 is based on Hannibal's memories of washing Mischa:

Clean smells are Hannibal's conscious avenue to his obsession with Clarice Starling:

Clarice has her own Proustian association with clean smells, since her mother was a cleaning lady at a motel. Matching childhood olfactory associations--cute!

It's subtle in the show, but Will is associated with cleanliness as well:

Now I just want to show how extreme the scent thing is, for anyone who hasn't read the books... like...

In conclusion, Hannibal from the novels is a straight-up cross between Ratatouille and an A/B/O universe transplant. You can't tell me that this man doesn't have the biggest scent kink in the world. His partner walks out of the shower smelling like his favorite soap and it's game over.

House History: Prestwold Hall was, for many years, the seat of the Packe family. Before that time, it was the home of the Skipwith family. After the death of Major Robert Christopher Packe (born c.1783) - one time Aide-de-camp to King George III - who was killed during the Battle of Waterloo, the hall passed to his nephew George Hussey Packe who held the hall and estate until his death in 1874.

The Hall was remodelled by architect William Burn in 1842–1844, incorporating the fabric of a mid-18th-century H-plan house. It was Grade I listed in 1951.

One of the finest rooms inside the house is the Entrance Hall with its richly coloured marbled plaster work in the Italian style. The painted ceiling was inspired by Raphael’s Vatican grotesques and incorporates miniature landscapes, showing the house before and after its remodelling between 1842 and 1844. Below the ceiling, wreathing the room, are small medallion busts of the poets from Chaucer to Scott, positioned in the spandrels and are likely inspired by Alberti's external arcade at the Tempio Malatestiano in Rimini. An arcade opens on to a vaulted corridor leading to a top lit inner hall: these spaces also marbled. Off the corridor, the cantilevered stone staircase survives from the eighteenth century house, and was given its bracketed brass balusters by William Wilkins (1751-1815) in 1805.

The Dining Room, added by Wilkins in 1805, was incorporated into the remodelling undertaken by the Scottish architect William Burn in 1842. The room is overlooked by two dramatic full length portraits of Sir Edward Hussey Packe, KBE (1878 – 1946) and the Hon. Lady Mary Sydney Packe (née Colebrooke, 1890 – 1973) by the painter Glyn Philpot RA (1844 – 1947). The portrait of Lady Packe, painted in 1911, was described by the art historian Robin Gibson OBE as an ‘amazing feat of virtuosity’. Its elongated elegance and introspective characterisation is totally without the fashion-plate vulgarity of much Edwardian portraiture. Other portraits hang in this room of the Packe family including a painting of Sir Christopher Packe (1595 – 1682) who purchased the house in the 17th century painted by Cornelis Janssens van Ceulen (1593 –1661).

The library extends nearly the entire length of the house when the large doors that separate it from the drawing room are opened, connecting the two rooms. With clever use of constructional steel, William Burn was able to create these long adjoining rooms. The windows rise from floor level and open onto the garden which enhances the notion that Prestwold was designed in the style of an Italian classical villa. The doors and bookcases in library were made for George Hussey Packe (1846–1908) by Gillows of Lancaster and London in 1875.

A conservatory fills the recessed central bay at the front of the house, and projects out towards the garden. Behind the glass and elegant Doric pilasters, are well planted raised beds with a number of exotic plants and flowers

Tools That Feel Important in My Practice

Candles

Considering I'm a Catholic and I also work with a fire goddess, it's completely unsurprising to me that candles are a big part of my craft. I've always used candles in veneration, so candle magic was a natural next step. I absolutely love using tealights and birthday candles as well as dollar-store pillar candles - cheap, accessible, and easy to use.

Rosaries

Again, Catholic. Rosaries are a great way to do contemplative prayer and/or meditation, and they help me add power and intention to my spellwork. They can be made of all kinds of stones and crystals, too - my current favorite has amethyst beads.

Tarot cards and runes

I've been working with tarot and runes for years, originally under the guise of "just for fun" and "it doesn't do anything but it's interesting." I've since fully embraced them as tools for communication with my deities and representation in my workings. I have a lovely little pocket deck and rune set, but I'd someday like to get/make another deck and set.

Herbs - specifically rosemary, cinnamon, and rose

Green/kitchen witchcraft felt right at home when I started my spiritual journey last year. I already loved herbal tea blends and gardening - incorporating these things into my faith has been fun! Rosemary is a wonderful multipurpose herb, cinnamon is so warm and comforting for abundance and wealth, and roses have always been my favorite flowers - I'm pleased to work with Mother Mary, who loves them as much as I do.

Salts

In the same vein as above, salts seemed like a natural addition to my working. Table salt is a great base for lots of different kinds of magic (and can be used in kitchen witchery with ease!), and black salt is wonderfully protective (don't use this one in kitchen witchery, though).

Cauldron

My cauldron was an unexpected add to my working tools - I found it, a little brass thing, at my local antique shop, and felt so called to it that I went back to get it after deciding against it the first time. I have interacted with Lady Cerridwen, who brought cauldrons to my attention, and to be honest, I love their classic witchy image. It's convenient to have on hand when I want to safely burn something.

okay i know i have a serious problem with coming up with au ideas then doing nothing with them, but i swear this one is still a cool idea that i might actually do something more with in the future.

with that being said, here's my idea for an undead monster au!

the concept takes place after the neutral ending. a month after basil and sunny take their own lives, aubrey ends up taking her own as well. after that, kel isn't far behind.

hero, now the last of the six remaining, ends up being pushed past his breaking point after kel's death, and just ever so slightly loses it due to overwhelming guilt and regret. he proceeds to spend the next fifteen or so years continuing his medical studies whilst also delving way too deep into ancient rituals and rumors of dark magic, all to find out how to bring everyone back and correct what he sees as his egregious, unforgivable mistakes. and eventually, he's successful! much to the dismay of the newly revived!

- sunny is brought back as a ghoulish zombie, missing a good number of his organs due to an in-depth embalming process. he's unable to breath or speak, and has a hard time getting around due to general sluggishness.

- mari is brought back as an incorporeal ghost, due to being near completely decayed by the time hero started preserving their bodies. she's unable to physically interact with the physical world whatsoever.

- basil is brought back as a sorta steampunk cyborg zombie. with brass clashing with flesh and a ticking clock instead of a heart, he ends up dealing with a lot of chronic pain and stiffness.

- kel and aubrey's corpses were. both in really bad shape. aubrey had a natural burial, speeding up the decaying process, and kel had thrown himself into traffic. both bodies alone were near unusable. however, they did nearly fill in the missing pieces of the other... so hero decided the best course of action would be to bring them back by frankensteining them together with a few stray pieces from other corpses here and there. their minds and souls are only partially melded together as a result. while there may be moments they act as two people rather than one, any emotions or thoughts are shared across both sides, making the inevitable arguments very complicated... anyone who knows me well should not be surprised i included this fusion in this au as well.

I, your conductor Caine, have gathered the VERY BEST musicians in ALL THE LAND to give you the most jaw-dropping, heart-stopping, mind-bending marching band you've ever laid your eyes AND ears upon! Don't be afraid and come on in! Diddle around with your favorite woodwinds, scream loud and proud with the brass, and keep perfect time and tempo with the percussion gang! I guarantee you, this band will be the best in all of the digital land, and you will NOT be disappointed by the marvels these hard-working individuals pull off! The Amazing Digital Marching Band, sometimes abbreviated as TADMB, is an Alternative Universe to the independently animated series "The Amazing Digital Circus". This alternate universe takes on the question of "What would it be like to be stuck in a never-ending cycle of marching and concert seasons?" as well as "What would band practice in complete virtual reality be like?" To be put more simply, each main character found within "The Amazing Digital Circus" is assigned a different role that are typically shown in a high school/collegiate marching band. These roles are as follows:

-Caine: Head Drum Major -Pomni: (Assistant) Drum Major -Ragatha: Flute (Woodwinds) -Jax: Trumpet (Brass) -Gangle: Color Guard -Zooble: Marching Snare (Battery) -Kinger: Gong And Bass Drum (Pit/Auxiliary)

Each character takes on a different piece that helps make a marching band full. One cannot exist without the other. Within this AU, the characters are shown going through the typical struggles, hardships, and perseverance that marching band members have to go through, but also shows the much more positive side of marching band: the community, the trust, and the lifelong friends.

This AU might even involve more than just marching band, leaking out into the daily lives that the characters live within the digital world they're trapped in, other interests they have besides music, and also possibly incorporating the fact that this AU takes heavy inspiration from high school marching bands by adding in elements of high school life, such as other "classes" the band members might be taking.
