Heartbreaking to say the least. (Also some people are defending it by saying things like "public education is a western concept" 🤦‍♀️ smh.
It's just misogyny, and making life decisions for women without consulting them, stop pretending. Also if it's a western concept, why aren't the men banned too 💀? Like I have a lot of criticism of the "west" too but ppl need to stop gatekeeping Islam and acting like only ppl in the east know and follow Islam. Both the west and east have their own set of cultural problems that they need to resolve and keep away from Islam. In the east, misogyny is a huge one.)

I don't really know how to say this so let me just jump in here and put this into perspective a little bit, as someone who's lived in an EXTREMELY earthquake prone area of the US for most of her life:
in Alaska, an M6.1 or 5.9 earthquake pauses your day for maybe 5 minutes. you hear it before you see it, maybe something falls off your shelves. you perk up, listen closely and pay attention; take stock of where everyone around you is, where the exits are, and places you can shelter if it gets big. usually, that means a large piece of furniture, or if you're in a concrete building, the nearest doorway. you stop your day, stay put, take stock until it's over. pick up anything that's fallen, maybe exchange glances with someone nearby — that one was bigger than normal, eh? might be some little aftershocks later, we should move those glass trinkets from the top shelf — and then you move on.
"Normal" in a place like Alaska or California means anything from M1.5 through about M5.3. anything above that is much, much more notable, but not devastating. the largest earthquake I've ever experienced was the M7.1 on November 30th, 2018. that was hecking terrifying, both because it was huge and because it lasted so much longer than normal. but no lives were lost. two roads — one a highway overpass, and the other a city road built overtop an unstable marsh — were destroyed and some already old and vulnerable, unused buildings collapsed. a bunch of people's glass objects broke. my family went on with our day as it was planned, pausing only to take stock of how big each aftershock was.
November 30th, 2018, epicenter at Point MacKenzie Alaska. Magnitude 7.1. zero lives lost.
June 22nd, 2022, epicenter Southwest of Khost Afghanistan. Magnitude 5.9. over 1000 lives lost and hundreds more injured.
I don't usually talk about global news or topics like this, like, AT ALL, bc I'm really just here to have fun and be nice to people, but the perspective of this is haunting to me. in the West, we live in a place of privilege. we have infrastructure and building codes — Alaska and I believe Cali as well has SPECIFIC BUILDING CODES designed around the prevalence of earthquakes in those areas — that offer us the ability to remain relatively unaffected by the single most unpredictable form of natural disaster. the Golden Gate Bridge has hung suspended over a full mile of open air directly beside the San Andreas fault for 85 years.
I've always been saddened by the decade-old reports of the 2010 Haiti earthquake — magnitude 7.0, over 160,000-316,000 lives lost. I've lived what that felt like, but from a place of incredible safety. my house didn't fall down around me, the ground wasn't taken from under me. I ran outside in slippers and waited it out, then went back inside 10 minutes later and had breakfast. I've lived what a 5.9 feels like, and continued on preparing dinner. the ground was solid under me. my house was firm around me. the people of Afghanistan can't say the same.
I guess all I'm really trying to say is that we take our own safety for granted. it genuinely is difficult for me to compute the damage this recent earthquake in Afghanistan has caused, because I'm looking at it from halfway across the world and a country that is no longer so devastated when the earth gives way. it feels a little like a slap in the face, like a reminder of blessing, and I think that it's worth mentioning

Large numbers from the Middle East, mostly from Syria and Afghanistan, flying directly into Tijuana airports heading to America.
Large numbers from the Middle East, mostly from Syria and Afghanistan, flying directly into Tijuana airports heading to America
While U.S. immigration authorities carried out 2.38 million migrant encounters (a term encompassing apprehensions and expulsions) at the southwest border in FY 2022, the statistic includes significant numbers of migrants who attempted to enter the United States multiple times without authorization[5]. This recidivism has been partially incentivized by the general lack of consequences that is the…

Men dug through rubble with their bare hands and shovels in western Afghanistan Sunday in desperate attempts to pull victims from the wreckage left by powerful earthquakes that killed at least 2,000 people.
Entire villages were flattened, bodies were trapped under collapsed houses and locals waited for help without even shovels to dig people out.
Living and dead, victims were trapped under rubble, their faces grey with dust. A government spokesman said Sunday that hundreds were still trapped, more than 1,000 hurt and more than 1,300 homes destroyed.
...
Saturday’s magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit a densely populated area near Herat. It was followed by strong aftershocks.

why did it have to be gender that became the new rebellious thing. it’s always been cool to be gender non-conforming. it’s always been a big fuck you to the establishment. but it has been warped into like this meaningless performance. men painting their nails and insisting that somehow makes them non-male. women going out in corsets & fishnets with a he/him pronoun pin on. and yet not many people actually addressing gendered issues aka literal misogyny. like I never really see any of those people talking about what’s happening to women in afghanistan. where are the conversations about fgm and child brides and pimped women and abusive marriages and there not being enough female representation in legislation. people just post a blue & pink flag on their instagram story and that’s their bad ass activism for the day. like please. there’s not even any talk about gay rights anymore! the people who talk the most about being gay aren’t even gay. it’s a fun and cute little performance for them. a little hehe haha look at me being naughty in the eyes of polite society or whatever. like give me a fucking break.

How do you make peace with the IDF storming into hospitals and UN schools? How do you make peace with the news that the IDF opened fire on Israeli citizens on October 7th? Why do the Palestinians deserve to be chased out of their homes since 1948? Do you know about Rachel Corrie? Do you know that the IDF has killed a record breaking amount of journalists? I don't understand how you can be so close to this tragedy and act like it is anything other than genocide.
You make peace when you understand international law and learn that the only war crimes being committed are being committed by Hamas. We’re not storming hospitals or schools. International law also states that as soon as a faction begins using an area for military purposes, it is no longer protected. It is no longer a “civilian” area, even if civilians still reside there. So many sources (that notably hate Israel and Jews) have come out confirming that Al Shifa is Hamas HQ. Many sources have come out confirming that Hamas is using schools to store weapons and indoctrinate children *and* that NGOs like the UN have turned a blind eye.
You make peace when you learn to educate yourself instead of falling victim to jihadist propaganda. The “Israelis killed their own people on October 7th” lie has been debunked. No sources could be found confirming that and the IDF and the Israel Police both came out saying that was factually inaccurate. If you know reporting out of those groups you know that when we’ve fucked up, we admit it. This was all a fabrication to excuse terrorism and continue to wrongfully demonize Israel.
You make peace when you deal with actual facts. There was a two-state solution planned before 1948 and then four countries attacked Israel and we defeated them all which lead to what y’all refer to as the Nakba. BUT!!! The Jewish population did not want their Arab neighbors to leave. Arab nations encouraged the Nakba. Arab nations have always used the plight of the Palestinian people to further their agenda of demonizing Israel in an attempt to eradicate it and kill Jews. But if we’re going to talk to about being expelled from your homes - Jewish families were expelled from Gaza in 2005 when we gave the land to the Palestinians. Do you care about that? Where are the Jews in Iraq? Yemen? Afghanistan? Syria? Sudan? Morocco? Feel free to talk about how those people were ethnically cleansed from those countries - but if that doesn’t interest you then your activism might be performative and you might just hate Jews.
I know it is not genocide because I’m so close to it. I spent all of last week ensuring the safe passage of Palestinians out of Gaza, into the South. I had Palestinians thank me. I administered aid to Palestinian children and the elderly. I watched them pray to Allah that Hamas would go away. What happened to my people on October 7th was an attempted genocide - something that Hamas has admitted to. What we are doing in Gaza is working to prevent a genocide, one of Hamas’ own doing.
Please read a book. Please get off social media. Please stop regurgitating lies fed to you by influencers and antisemites that did not care about this conflict before October 7th. You clearly need to be educated and messaging an IDF soldier on anon isn’t the way to do it. I have better shit to do. Yalla bye✌🏼
