Zelda's Personality
I did a post about how Link, despite being a player insert, has different personalities through the games that appear subtly and can be inferred based on his behaviors and responses. So now it's time for the Zeldas! More recent games have given more of a shining role to the character for whom the franchise is named, and I love the variety between them all, so let's explore it a bit! (At least for the games that I've played)
Ocarina of Time Zelda - My gosh. I love her so much. This woman ain't a princess, she is a Queen. She is so determined to protect her people that even as a child she's willing to order people around and go against the adults' wishes, despite being ignored. This girl is determined. Like, BotW Zelda gets put down over and over despite her efforts and she is understandably dejected and goes along with what her father wants. This Zelda is straight up like I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG and just moves on LOL. Not only is she determined, she has a plan. A very foolish childish plan because she is a child and no one is going to stop her.
And, naturally, since it's a child's plan against an adult who has all the other adults wrapped around his fingers, it doesn't work. Zelda is left with a kingdom in flames, the evil man she was trying to stop obtained the Triforce, and her father is dead. She's fleeing her home and spends the rest of her childhood in exile. Something like this could destroy a person. And maybe it did. But she picked herself back up. And not only did she pick herself back up, she trained herself to fight. She learned everything she needed to about the Hero's journey so she could guide him when he returned. She stayed in hiding to avoid Ganondorf's watch. She protected the Triforce of Wisdom. This girl is a certified badass.
This Zelda is a fighter in every sense of the word. Nothing will stop her, not even her own mistakes. But she is sensitive too, she's aware of the damage this has done to Link and is apologetic and so incredibly sad. She carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. (Granted, this is Adult Timeline Zelda, but she is just Child Timeline Zelda put through a different scenario, so... same personality for both of them, just different circumstances).
So overall, this Zelda is decisive, resolute, never gives up, empathetic, and probably a little reclusive based on how she's always left to her own devices.
Skyward Sword Zelda - This girl is chaotic and it's wonderful. She pushes her best friend off cliffs and sky islands. She bullies the bullies. She's training in a knight's academy, which more people need to remember dang it. She's protective, she's anxious, she's bossy, she's curious.
This girl is also pretty darn adaptable. Like. She gets thrown out of the sky, out of everything she's ever known, tossed into a world of danger with no one to guide her but a stranger, and has to recover memories of being a freaking goddess and endure a journey of discovering herself while also being chased by Ghirahim. And she does it. Like... Link isn't far behind her, he goes after her literally the next day, and she's already doing her part of her adventure. She was told the fate of the world depends on you and she said okay, then, better get going. Like wow.
She has to have a strong sense of self. This girl found out she was a goddess and told Link after everything, "I'm still my father's daughter. I'm still your Zelda." She was called Your Grace, she was a spirit maiden for a deity her people worshipped, and she still said, "yes. Yes, all of this is true. But I'm still me." Like... I know we see her during her journey when she's still processing and not the aftermath, but this girl has a will of iron and will not let go of who she is.
In summary, this Zelda is courageous, has a strong sense of duty, is a gremlin, excitable, assertive, and stubborn.
Breath of the Wild Zelda - Oh, this poor princess. This Zelda is so sincere and wants to help so much, but she struggles with discovering herself and her powers. She is endlessly inquisitive and absolutely crushed under the pressure her father and her kingdom places on her. She lets it out through understandable frustration, pitting it against someone who, to her, represents everything she is not, which is so interesting.
This Zelda wants for the pieces to just fit but she can't figure it out, and instead of doing some introspection she just continues to look for alternatives. When she does do introspection, it's just to ask why she's defective. Things just need to make sense. I feel like an attitude like this implies that 1, Zelda has no instructor and therefore never learned how to learn, and 2, that implies that everything else she's good at has come naturally to her, such as technology. This girl is a scientist! Who has not learned the scientific method! Though she does try experiments, as poor Link can attest.
When Zelda is allowed to just be herself she seems very sweet and bubbly and excitable. She's so happy when she wants Link to try that frog! She's also incredibly chatty, bless her, having to put up with that silent knight all the time haha (yes, Link does eventually talk to her. Eventually.)
I would also like to note that the instant this girl gets her powers, she goes straight to the castle and holds Ganon at bay for a hundred years. The instant she's free of that burden and bondage, she wants to rebuild her kingdom. Like holy cow. This girl went from doubting herself so much to having so much hope. She is a symbol of hope for her Hyrule.
BotW Zelda is uncertain initially, but learns to have faith in herself and more importantly has all the faith in the world in her people. She is inquisitive, extremely intelligent, energetic, bubbly, and very sensitive.
Twilight Princess Zelda - One of the more mysterious and less prominent Zeldas in her series, this woman radiates quiet strength and regalness. Also, her very first scene (or maybe it's a cut scene flashback in her first interaction in the game) shows her brandishing a sword to fight alongside her soldiers. Hell yes, Queen. But she also has the wherewithal to recognize when she's outplayed. She is wise and knows when to fold to avoid needless casualties. She is willing to put herself in such a vulnerable state in order to protect others. She knew that fighting would still result in the kingdom being overcome by Twilight magic with bonus dead soldiers, so she opted for doing it without the dead soldiers. Knowing when you're beaten and taking it with grace to figure things out takes not only wisdom but humility.
This Zelda is also just... so incredibly understated. Her sadness over her kingdom's fall into disarray is poignant but subtle. Her compassion for Midna when she's dying is muted, but so clearly evident in that she gives her remaining life energy to her. Her acceptance of Link as the Hero, and her sign of respect to him and petition for his aid is just oh my goodness, the regal bow, the willingness to fight alongside him, I love her.
With as little as she features in the game and with as quiet as she can be, she honestly is hard to peg down, but overall this Zelda strikes me as someone who feels deeply and expresses little of it. She's quiet, she's reserved, but she is humble and dignified and incredibly kind.
So there you have it. Some of the ladies for you. I love them all dearly and love to compare and contrast them. <3

Can I request for a Princess Zelda (botw ver) x Female reader who's part of the Yiga clan and was sent out to kill or retrieve the princess. The catch is that the female reader was actually apart of the castle guard in disguise for most the part.
I don't know how to end it but you can decide how it ends...THOUGH i want a happy ending with romance

You’re conflicted. Any normal person would be.
On one hand- it’s too easy. For all the moments Hyrule’s precious princess needs a female guard rather than her blonde little watchdog, she has you. One of the few females in the army- perfectly capable of acting as companion and guard for the young princess. For as much as Link is skilled in this and in that, there are certain things that he really shouldn’t do. As a boy, at least. Besides, he’s a champion! He has other responsibilities. Other duties that pull him away at a moment’s notice. Someone has to take care of her in his absence. Plus, every girl needs a friend her age! Wouldn’t it just be perfect if that friend was a part of Hyrule’s mighty royal guard?
And course, Hyrule isn’t the only one benefitting from this dynamic. Sure, their princess has a bodyguard but you and the Yiga clan? You have close contact with the Princess. The ability to whisper into her ear and to pull the puppet strings from far, far away. Completely unnoticed. Completely undetected. Until the perfect moment to strike. But on the other hand…
“Oooh! Ooh! Come look at this one!”
…you don’t think you could ever strike.
You whip your head in the direction you heard Zelda’s shout. Years and years of training allow you to zero in on her figure in less than a second and to rush over to her with fast, yet near-silent feet. As you draw near, you’re able to spot what has captured her attention almost instantly and you begin to change your approach. Instead of charging straight toward her, you turn on your foot and make a slight arc. You hope to cut it off before it gets away. With her presence, it can be easily distracted, so you can make yourself move with little to no effort. And if need be, a swift strike nearby with your sword could allow you a few nanoseconds to seal the deal. Plus, you could always-
  Something changes.
“I’ve got you now little frog! Wait- No!”
And it’s not for the better.
“Princess!” You shout in a alarm at the sight about to unfurl in front of you. You had been so close to the two of them: to Zelda and the Hot-Footed Frog with a weirdly off-color marking on its back. A couple of a second, and you could have had the Hot-Footed Frog in your hands without the princess ever having to dream of getting dirty. But of course, it’s Princess Zelda, and of course, she would make a mad lunge for the frog herself, tripping over her own feet in the process.
In hindsight, you should have anticipated Zelda making a move before you. But only your hindsight is 20/20. You like to think you have near-perfect eyes, but people are like animals. Unpredicted. And you never truly know how things are going to go. But what you do know is that you’re a damn good soldier. And that you have more than what it takes to save your friend from a fall or two.
So, you dive. You throw your body out using all the momentum you built up until this moment, and you toss yourself underneath Zelda’s falling form. It’s like the seconds slow down and you’re able to see perfectly. Hear perfectly. Think perfectly even. Everything begins to crawl at a snail’s pace as you go down, down, down, and prepare to catch her. The birds chirping in the trees let their songs stretch for notes and notes longer. The subtle summer's breeze flows leisurely by as if it was honey dripping from a pot. And then suddenly?
“Oof.” A tiny grunt of surprise escapes your mouth as the Princess makes contact with your chest. A little dazed. A little winded. But perfectly safe and sound. “...Don’t worry, I got you.”
She catches your eyes and immediately offers you a bashful smile. The smile you send her back tells her that it’s all good- that you’re just happy that you were able to save her in time. But the warming of your cheeks? You’re not sure what that would tell her if she were to realize.
Well, not exactly. You see, you’re still conflicted.
On one hand, you’re not supposed to do this. All of this. Your orders from the Yiga clan were to infiltrate the guard. To find a way in so that you could find and figure out all the locked-up secrets that belong to the kingdom of Hyrule. Ending up as princess Zelda’s guard was an absolute bonus to your mission, but the objective still stayed the same. Get the info needed to destroy all who stand in your way. Get in undetected. Get out unnoticed. Though leaving with a captured or killed princess would be fine too…unfortunately for you….
Either way, that meant that you didn’t have to entertain her or become her friend. That meant that you didn’t have to listen to her late-night rates of frustration, let her confide in you all her fears and her worries, or any of that. Hell, you didn’t even have to help her look for frogs and catch her from a fall that will at worst leave her with a bruise or two. You just had to be her bodyguard. That was it.
On the other hand? You want to do this.
You do. Even though your heart threatens to beat out of your chest. Even though you feel more nervous at this moment than you do in battle or during a stealth mission. Even though it literally goes against everything you were raised and told to do. You want to do this. Because by doing things like this for her?
“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you so much!”
You get to become closer to her. You get to see her smiles- the happy ones and the much more timid ones. You get to hug her when she’s feeling down. And pass on a little piece of wisdom that you’ve learned while growing up in a completely different world from her own.
  But most of all?
  “Of course Princess!”
You get to be close to her. Not just because of a mission. Not just because of orders.
“ I’d do anything for you.”
  But because you want to.

A New Beginning (Zelda x G/N!Reader)
Tumblr media
In this, the reader is the sheikah champion and I made it where they have a divine beast that is a fox. I also names it Inari, because the most common and well-known symbol of Inari is the fox, or kitsune.
Also TW: mentions of abuse
F/N = Fox name
◇◇◇
"Once we finish helping Daruk with his divine beast, we can work on your divine beast Y/N." Zelda said with a smile as she was walking a bit ahead of Y/N.
Y/N has known Zelda for about a few months now.
They had first met the princess after they were found abandoned and injured by a few Gerudo guards who were on lookout outside of Gerudo Town.
At first nobody trusted them because their parents were well known Yiga clan members, but Zelda, Impa, Link and the other champions were the first to trust them.
Well, Revali was still wasn't fully convinced, but they hoped that they will gain his trust someday.
Now they were the Sheikah Champion, and the pilot of the divine beast Inari, which was a fox much to their delight since it was similar to their pet fox F/N.
"Thanks Zelda. I'm glad I met you." They said with a smile.
Hearing this, Zelda turned to them and gave them a bright smile, which Y/N couldn't help but blush a little.
"I'm glad I met you as well Y/N." But as Zelda turned away, she turned back towards Y/N with a curious look.
"If you don't mind me asking, Y/N. I was wondering, what happened to you when you were found? You were injured quite badly and you refused to tell anyone about how you got so injured."
Hearing that, Y/N's smile dissapeared and they looked away, clearly remembering that night.
Zelda noticed this and a look of concern replaced her smile.
"I'm sorry, you don't have to answer that if you don't want to."
"No, it's okay, I think it would be better if I tell someone about it at least." They said as they sat against a nearby tree, the princess sitting to their right.
"My parents, you already know that they are well known Yiga members. They tried to get me to join them. But I refused. They didn't take it well, so they had me locked up and... beaten... until I joined them."
While Y/N was explaining their story, Zelda could basically feel her heart break.
How could anyone do that to their child... it made her sick to her stomach to think about parents putting their kid through something so horrible.
"A couple weeks later, I managed to escape and found myself outside of Gerudo Town, where the guards found me." They finished as they looked down.
Silence filled the air for a brief moment before Y/N spoke again.
"And finally being away from them, I can work on my new life, and help you all defeat Calamity Ganon." A smile on their lips as they looked at the princess with determination.
That's when they noticed the sad look on the princess' face.
"Hey, it's okay, I'm fine now. Because of your kindness as well as you and the other champions giving me a chance, I was able to start a new life. And I'm grateful for you." They said hoping to lighten the mood a bit.
Then Y/N felt a pair of arms wrap around her in a tight hug.
"Thank you Y/N for trusting me and telling me of your past. I am sorry about what happened to you back then, but I am happy that we were able to help you start over." She said as she pulled away from the hug and held Y/N's hands in her's.
Y/N couldn't help but smile.
While most didn't trust them or cared for them, they were glad that they had some people supporting them.

The sky burned.
He had never seen anything quite like it. He had never tasted smoke and ash so heavily, smelled metal and blood mixing in a nauseating manner that nearly emptied his stomach. He'd never seen so many bodies. He'd never fought for more than twelve hours straight.
And he'd never seen the sky burn.
The bells in the temple rang repeatedly, a warning and a petition, a prayer and a guide. It punctuated the screams, it harmonized the ticking of lasers as they charged and fired, shooting through the air with such intensity that it created miniature claps of thunder as the heat separated the air harshly before it returned together with a snap.
And the sky burned.
Abel watched as the castle was engulfed in flames, filling the night air with sickly hues of red that drowned out the oncoming sunrise. They had fought all night to hold the guardians at bay to no avail. The capital had fallen. The king had fallen.
Hyrule had fallen.
He should have died in the castle alongside the king. When the library ceiling had collapsed in on all of them, that should have ended it. He should have died so the king could have lived.
Instead he was the only one who survived.
He shook his head, ridding himself of the distraction and despair. He may have failed his duty to the royal family, but the fight was not over. Hyrule hadn't fallen yet. Just the capital. There was still an entire country. He had failed the royal family, but he would not fail its people.
Barking orders at what remained of his troops, the captain of the royal guard corralled as many people out of the city as possible. When his men had found some semblance of organization, he ran back into the fray, ending up in the square with three guardians. One swiveled its head, its eye, once blue like a placid lake, was pinkish red, infected by the blood stained clouds that shot out of the castle. The other two were preoccupied, one destroying a building while the other killed the remaining civilians in the alley where it had cornered them.
Abel felt his blood freeze as the center guardian's laser focused on him, and then his entire body screamed in rage. He echoed it with a battle cry, charging ahead with his shield. He remembered his son's trick, he remembered seeing his little knight deflect a stray accidental blast so long ago.
He just had to time it right.
The guardian fired. His heart skipped a beat. He put the shield forward, shoving with all his might just as it made impact.
His arm shrieked in protest, and his entire body shuddered.
And the guardian's head melted as its own blast reflected back at it.
Gasping for air, Abel let his arm fall limp a moment, remembering how the pot lid Link had used had shattered into a thousand splinters, his arm broken from the maneuver. He remembered rushing to the princess' aid while internally panicking over his son.
But duty had always come first.
He prayed Link and the princess were safe.
Would they be able to stop this? Would the divine beasts be enough aid to halt an entire army, as well as the calamity itself? Would the princess be able to fulfill her destiny alongside his son?
Abel shook his head. Now wasn't the time. He was growing weary from fighting all evening and all night.
The other two guardians noticed their comrade had been destroyed and immediately started to charge towards the knight.
"Captain!"
Abel turned to see a handful of his soldiers coming to his aid. He asked, "The civilians?"
"The other team is helping to evacuate them," one of his men answered.
The temple's bells rang again and then were silenced by a terrifying crash of thunder. The guardians ripped the building apart piece by piece.
And the two in the plaza charged their lasers.
Electricity shot through Abel's veins. He couldn't deflect two blasts at once, and using his shield as his sole strategy was going to get everyone killed. His arm was already aching from fighting all night, and the one parry had nearly crippled him.
Abel roared and charged forward, trying to continue zigzagging back and forth so he wouldn't be an easy target. If he could make one fire on the other, then maybe--
One guardian charged faster than the other, its blast creating a cavernous hole in the earth, sending cobblestone flying, and Abel along with it. The captain of the guard landed in a heap just in front of the other guardian as it reached its peak charge.
Abel refused to die this easily. Getting a glimpse of the other guardian in his periphery, he rolled over cobblestone and broken weapons and bodies alike, slipping under the guardian entirely as the other fired, knocking its companion onto its side and exposing Abel once more.
With one guardian at least incapacitated, his men charged forward to chip away at it while Abel was left with the other. He ran towards it again, trying to get to its legs, knowing that if he hit it enough times he could at least damage them and slow the metal beast down. When it charged another blast, he cried out in warning to his fellow knights, who had finished off the other guardian, and they all scattered. Abel dove into an alley this time, fighting the jolt of horror as he landed atop the still body of a child.
The guardian's leg tore into the alley, trying to reach for Abel. When the knight scrambled away hastily, it reached another leg above the alley entirely, slowly tearing buildings apart to reach its prey. The child's bloodied form vanished in the debris that fell. Abel felt sick all over again, but the situation was far too immediate and dire to ponder everything he'd seen over the last twelve hours.
The buildings around him crumbled entirely, leaving him cornered against the wall of another alley, and he reached for a sword he no longer had, having lost it back in the plaza.
He was pinned and he knew it.
Looking around for the nearest weapon, he found a large tree branch that had somehow been blasted into the area from the nearest garden. He grabbed it desperately, glaring with all his hatred into that baleful pink eye.
He would die a knight of Hyrule. The Calamity would never take that from him.
There was a cry that tore through the air, a little hyah that made the knight's entire being nearly crumble with the instant recognition. A small figure dove from the nearest rooftop, sacred blade glowing so brightly it nearly blinded Abel. The figure landed on the guardian's body and sank the blade so deeply into the guardian's eye with such vehemence that when it collapsed he had to brace against it with his foot to pull the blade back out.
The sky burned around them, and the little knight's eyes burned even brighter.
"Link," Abel breathed, collapsing.
His son's fierce glare melted into worry as he rushed to the captain, falling to his knees to be at eye level and look him over. Hovering behind the guardian was another figure, a girl whose white dress was already stained with soot and soil and sweat.
The princess.
"Link, you--you have to leave," Abel immediately said, putting a hand on the teenager's shoulder. Link's eyes narrowed stubbornly, almost as if in defiance, and Abel shook his head, growing dizzier by the second. The mere sight of his boy made the world crash around him, the fight finally catching up to him. "L-listen to me. I--my men are gone, Link. The castle has--"
He looked beyond his son for a moment, watching the princess as she stared at him desperately.
"The king...?" she asked quietly, her words barely audible over the destruction all around them.
Abel swallowed. "He's gone, Your Highness. I'm... I'm so sorry."
Princess Zelda's face grew whiter than her dress. She covered her mouth quickly, eyes horrified at the news, and turned away. Abel watched her a moment longer, feeling all the worse for having failed in his duty to protect the king, and then returned his focus to the young knight in front of him.
"You have to get her out of here," he said quietly, his voice beginning to shake.
Link immediately shook his head. He looked up beyond Abel, up at the castle, where the Calamity itself swirled around like a demon ready to consume its prey.
"Link!" Abel snapped, catching his boy's attention. "Listen to me! The castle has fallen. My men can't fight an army of these guardians! The divine beasts have done nothing, and if the Calamity can corrupt our army, then there's no doubt they can corrupt the beasts as well."
Link swallowed, brow furrowing together. His boy, who had tried so desperately to always be so stoic, began to look afraid. He shook his head again.
Abel's hand slid from Link's shoulder to his face, making him focus on him. "Son... they're gone."
The Champions are gone. You have no support. Don't you understand? Don't you see this is impossible?
Link's lips trembled, and he bit harshly to still them.
"Get her out of here," Abel repeated. "You can't win this fight. Not here, not like this. Go to Fort Hateno, Link. We'll rally the troops there and figure something out."
It was more than just bad news and a command. It was hope, and Link latched on to the words, his face growing stony with determination. Abel pat his cheek lightly and gave what little bit of a smile that he could muster. "I'll meet you there, okay?"
His son watched him, his façade cracking a hair, his breath hitching for just a moment. Abel slid his hand behind his boy's head, pulling him close so their foreheads rested against each other, and they both closed their eyes for a moment. "Keep her safe. Do your duty, Link. Now, go."
The moment was lost, and Link pulled away. He took a slow, deep, steadying breath, and then nodded. With determination set on his face, he turned quickly, rushing to the princess and grabbing her by the wrist, pulling her away from Abel, away from the castle, away from city and the ruin and the disaster all around them. Zelda followed helplessly, tears staining her cheeks as she turned back to look one last time at her home, her kingdom, before they vanished around a corner.
Abel sat there on the cold stone floor a moment longer, catching his breath and readying himself. He offered up a prayer for his son and the princess, for Hyrule and its protection. Then he rose, dragging his feet out into the plaza and finding his weapon and shield he had dropped.
And he moved forward as the sky burned above.
