Summary: Reader has a heart defect where you have a hard time breathing whilst running with your siblings.
Tumblr media
Chatter filled the park as the Bridgerton’s arrived. Anthony in the front, looking over his shoulder to reply to Colin’s remark. Francesca running past him with Gregory. Eloise and Benedict walking side by side in silence. Francesca with mama as Daphne had her arm around you. Some gents and ladies turned their heads at the sudden disturbance of peace. – “Gregory! Hyacinth! Stay close!” – Violet called out seeing they were running off.
Hyacinth giggled loud, turning around to run up to Anthony. Anthony paused, blocked her way and picked her up to her dislike. She called it out when she got lifted up. Her complaints ending in laughter as Anthony set her back down. Gregory ran up to the tent, claiming the first chair as his by letting himself fall into it. Benedict jogged over to him.
Whistling loud with a nudge against his leg to get off. – “This is my seat.” – Gregory said stubborn. Benedict set his hands on the arms of the chair, leaning in. – “Go help mama.” – he replied with a cheeky smile. Gregory stared annoyed at him as Benedict kept nudging him to get up.
Gregory got up going over to Violet as Benedict sat himself down smiling. Francesca rounded him with crossed arms. – “You are the worst.” – she commented with half a smile. Benedict shrugged his shoulders, glad he had a good chair. Daphne saw another one of the folding chairs leading you to it. She sat you down happily.
She then went over to Colin to assist him into spreading out a blanket. Benedict grabbed the arms of his chair, hopping his chair closer to yours so that he could face you. – “Comfortable sister?” – he asked. You nodded. Benedict held his hand low with a luring smirk. You slapped your hand down on his with a laugh.
Benedict grabbed for you, tickling you. You squirmed against his grip, already feeling it come up. Feeling how hard your heart was pumping to get the blood flowing around your body. Your breathing becoming deeper, getting worn out. Anthony noticed it, running over. He slapped Benedict against his back to stop.
Benedict moved his hands up, looking questionable at Anthony’s glare. It gave you the time to seat yourself better and catch your breath. Immediately you were worn out. Anthony knelt before you, laying a hand on your knee.  – “Are you alright Y/n?” – he asked. You hummed loud, still trying to steady your breathing. It always took a while to do so. – “I’m not fragile.” – you said to your big brother with a smile.
Anthony took your hand, looking fondly up to you. – “No, but you mustn’t forget your limits.” – he reminded you. Benedict felt a bit guilty. He just wanted to have fun, like he did with Hyacinth or Gregory. You saw the sudden silence and guilt on his face. You moved Anthony aside to get to Benedict. Wrapping your arms around him. – “Thank you for not treating me any different.” – you whispered to him. Benedict hugged you back.
It wasn’t easy being different from your different. A heart defect they called it. A default in the heart that made it easier for you to get worn out. Your heart needing to put in that little extra effort to get the blood flow around your body. Gregory came over, tugging at Anthony. – “Come play!” – he said, pulling Anthony away. You waved him away, letting him know, you would be alright. – “I’ll just settle with my notebook.” – you told him.
Benedict re-arranged the chairs so that you were sitting beside each other. He took out his sketchbook and pencil. You opened your notebook scribbling down words. Poets. Little stories you loved to write out. Colin joined Anthony, Gregoy and Hyacinth by the tent for a game. Violet was sharing tea with Daphne and Francesca. Eloise laid down near them, trying to catch some more sleep.
Hyacinth and Anthony stood before each other. Gregory and Colin to the side. Hyacinth signalled to Anthony that she was ready to throw. She threw the hoop at him. Both Gregory and Colin trying to grab it. They missed as the hoop hooked around Anthony’s arm. He pulled his eyebrow cheeky up, making Hyacinth laugh. Anthony threw the hoop back as Colin shot his hand forwards, hitting the hoop with his fingers as it landed against Gregory’s head.
“Au, what was that for.” – Gregory called out, rubbing his head. – “Sorry.” – Colin apologized. Gregory picked the hoop up from the ground, giving it back to Anthony for another try. Benedict moved his head to the side, trying to peak at your notebook. – “Writing a poem about me?” – he asked teasingly.
You busted out in a laughter. – “You have to admit I am very interesting to write poems about.” – he brought his hands behind his back, stretching his legs out. His comment made you roll your eyes in a sarcastic way.
“If Y/n wrote about you it would make people scream.” – Eloise commented with one eye half open. Benedict looked behind him to her on the blanket. – “Scream with terror.” – Eloise filled in with a loud laugh. Benedict moved his hand behind him to playfully slap at her but he couldn’t reach her. Gregory came running over to you. – “Y/n do you want to play with us?” – he asked.
“I would love to.” – you answered putting your notebook away. – “Be mindful Y/n.” – Violet called out as you went after Gregory. – “Yes mama.” – you responded getting pulled away by Gregory. You joined the others. – “Let’s play tag.” – Hyacinth suggested. Anthony looked over to you. – “Suggest something else Hyacinth.” – he spoke.
You immediately knew he referred to you. – “I can handle it. Let’s play tag.” – you expressed not wanting to give your family limitations. – “Y/n are you sure?” – Colin spoke as you didn’t want to hear any more pity. – “Yes! Now let’s play.” – you said a bit annoyed. – “I’ll be it.” – Anthony moved his hand up, his other pressed to his chest.
Hyacinth and Gregory started to run away. Colin waited for you. You started easy, jogging off as you immediately felt it. Your breathing becoming shallow and loud. Anthony started to run as you staid still for a moment to catch your breath. You saw your brother run over to Gregory as he made his way over to you. With Gregory nearing, you had to run as well. You kept going feeling the pounding of your heart in your head.
Your legs feeling like it carried sandbags. The immediate feeling of tiredness in your legs as you knew you couldn’t hold it out any longer. You needed a moment to stop. Anthony noticed it slowing down. He looked around, going after Colin as he deliberately left you alone. – “Hey you could’ve tagged her!” – Colin called out taking a run for it.
“I choose whom I tag!” – Anthony breathed out. Anthony was able to tag Hyacinth as she was bummed out by it. You were near Colin, standing a bit still as Colin was shielding you a bit. Hyacinth came running over. Colin darted to the side as she focused her tag on you instead.
Squealing loud, you leapt aside, starting to run to avoid her. Hyacinth kept running after you. You weren’t a quitter so you kept running. Feeling your body tire out from the exercise. Breathing loud that it was more like panting. Your head turning a shade of red as you felt warm. Heart pounding in your head. – “Tag you’re it!” – Hyacinth called out touching your back.
The moment she tagged you, you stopped. Legs feeling sloppy as you let yourself fall to the ground. – “Y/n!” – your brothers called out. Benedict’s eyes widened, jumping out of his chair to run over. You laid yourself on your back, panting loud to catch your breath. Anthony and Colin rushing over to kneel at each side of you. – “Are you alright sister?” – Anthony asked worried. – “I’m fine.” – you answered out of breath.
“I just… need to catch… my breath…” – you replied, feeling your heart pound loudly in your chest. You noticed your siblings looked frightfully at you. – “I’m alright. I just need a moment to recover.” – you reminded them. Colin helped you sit up straight as you were still breathing loudly through your mouth. – “How about a game of cards?” – you suggested with a laugh. Benedict shook his head playfully. Anthony and Colin helped you up to your feet. Leading you back to the tent for some calmer games.

"I will not hear any more of this nonsense." Anthony hissed, as you had once again asked him for permission to join Colin on his travels.
"You aren't even listening to me." You stressed, gripping at the silk of your dress. "I will never get this chance again. Mama tell him."
Your mother turns away from Daphne with a pitying expression, looking between your pink face and your eldest brothers.
"You know why you cannot my dear. You will soon be ready to find a husband, and you will not find a suitable husband if you are halfway across the world."
"Well, what about Colin and finding a wife!"
"Colin's travels are to enrich his education, it will increase his reputation amongst the women." Anthony answered, and your head snapped back to his with narrowed eyes.
"I was not speaking to you, brother."
"Tone." Your mother reprimanded, and as you looked across the room you saw this was a losing battle. So, holding your head high you dipped your head in farewell and marched our of the living area.
You were not giving up.
As night fell upon the Bridgerton household, you were already poised and waiting by your door. The dim lamps from the hallway, giving you a slither of vision as you watched Benedict, the final one, enter his chambers for the night.
Then you were off, silently closing the door, you made your way to the window and popped it open. The cool breeze hit you in the face, but you were too determined now to be deterred by some bad weather.
So, without looking down you shrugged on your traveling bag, and began scrambling down the side of the house. By the time you reached the bottom your knees were bruised and bloody, and your palms burned from the gritty exterior.
"Uh, should you be down here?" You yelped, clutching the small bag to your chest as a boy came out from the shadows. You didn't recognize him, and he didn't seem to be one of the boys Anthony hung out with.
"Yes, my door was simply in a jam."
"So, the window was the next best thing?" You stared at him, huffing as you marched past. "Miss, Miss!"
"What!" You spun to face him again, "What could you possibly need from me at this hour."
"You dropped this." He held up your velvet pouch of money, and came to stand by you. "I'm Theo."
"Give me that... Please." He shrugged, opening the pouch and taking a few coins as you gasped and snatched what remained back. "So, you bother me because you are a thief."
"Nah, I'm simply taking my wage your brother said you'd pay. Come on, poshie." Theo marched past, and your legs started on their own accord as your mind spun.
"Anthony paid you?"
"Who? No, this one was... Benedict. He said make sure my sister gets to the carriage. Seemed off his head."
"Was that all he said." You ask meekly, finalizing your counting of the final coins as you slotted them back into the pouch to safely put away.
"He also said. I don't know how she'll do it, but tell her she better not get caught."
You let out a breath, nodding to Theo as the carriage Colin would take at first light came into sight.
If Anthony didn't kill you, your mother sure would.

"So many dimwits." Eloise muttered, her voice laced with annoyance, “Look at them— parading in their silly, shiny dresses.”
It received a snicker from her sister next to her, “You’re wearing a silly shiny dress.”
Eloise rolled her eyes, "Do not remind me," She made a move to walk away, but she was tugged back by her elbow.
"What- Where are you going? Do not leave me here all alone!" Elladine whisper-yelled, slightly panicked at the prospect of being left alone in a room full of strangers.
Eloise sighed and dropped her arms to her side in a tired huff, "I hate it here."
"Eloise, please?”
"I think the sole reason you're not being approached is standing right here, next to you,” She gestured to herself, her ballspende dangling around her wrist, “I am the local lunatic. I am fairly sure that boys will be lining up in front of you as soon as I take my leave. Toodles." She grumbled as she stuffed another pastry in her mouth before turning to make her leave, but the man approaching them had almost made her choke on her bite as she tried to finish it as fast as she could. Her cheeks were filled like a squirrel, and even if Elladine knew her sister wasn’t one for proper etiquettes, even this disgusted her.
“Eloise?” Elladine noticed the pure horror on her sister’s face.
"The Prince is coming! Quick!" She mumbled through her full mouth, trying to quickly swallow her bite down, and harshly nudged her sister's side so the girl would straighten her posture.
From the other side of the room, Viscountess Kate hadn't lost sight of the girls for even a second but had decided to give them their space, knowing how she had hated the times where her mother or Lady Danbury had breathed down her neck during such occasions. However, she excused herself from Violet's side as soon as she saw the royal approach her sisters-in-law. She excused herself left and right as she softly pushed through the crowd.
Before the two Bridgerton’s had time to prepare, prince Felipe of Spain had already stopped before them to properly introduce himself. His hand was held up to Elladine, an invitation to get acquainted. Feeling somewhat alienated by the whole sudden turn of events, Elladine Bridgerton looked at his outstretched hand in bewilderment. Then her eyes went up to his face, where a gentle smile was waiting for her. She bit her lip to withhold a word of profanity from leaving her lips when the tip of Eloise’s shoe harshly hit her ankle, but she took the sign and held the prince’s hand before curtsying. Eloise quickly bowed as well, albeit less gracefully, and watched as prince Felipe planted a gentle kiss on her sister’s knuckles. He momentarily turned to Eloise, acknowledging her presence,
"It is my pleasure to meet you both.” He dipped his head to the side, growing unsure, “I am not from here, so forgive me if your name is lost on me. But before you tell me— might I ask where your chaperone is?” Prince Felipe noticed the two girls standing alone, not finding it appropriate or respectful to strike a conversation without someone there to oversee the encounter.
Elladine looked to her right, where Kate suddenly appeared in her signature purple coloured dress that flowed freely behind her and swayed through the crowd, her beauty almost stealing their thunder. But the Prince still only had eyes for the young woman in front of him.
“Forgive me, your Grace.” Kate curtsied and introduced herself before turning to the younger Bridgerton’s “Allow me to introduce you to Lady Eloise and Lady Elladine Bridgerton.” She squeezed Elladine’s lower arm in a motherly manner, her eyes filled with pride now that she looked at the two girls in their exquisite dresses. They hadn’t been that young when Kate first met them, but oh my had they grown into two beautiful ladies.
“Ah, Bridgerton!” Prince Felipe nodded in recognition, and all three women had to withhold a wince, afraid only the drop of their name had just ruined any chance they might have had. Of course, the prince knew about them. The Bridgerton's had been the talk of the city. For obvious reasons, both good and bad.
Felipe gave Eloise a gentle smile as well, who hoped there were no remains of the pastry coating her face, but it was clear to anyone that he had approached the two sisters to talk to Elladine. People had started to stop and stare and Violet gasped in admiration and put a hand over her mouth once she realised where Kate had walked off to.
“Anthony-” Violet tapped her son’s arm to get his attention, her eyes never leaving her daughters on the other side of the room. Anthony followed her line of sight and pursed his lips in curiosity. Though the young prince of Spain was known to be a gentle soul, it was still Anthony's younger sisters they were talking about, so with narrowed eyes, he watched his wife and sisters talk to his Majesty.
Prince Felipe turned back to Elladine after having noticed most of the ball had stopped after his entrance, and were now staring.
“I was up there, watching for a while, preparing. I noticed you almost right away,” A hint of a blush appeared on the apples of his cheeks at the small confession, “I did not want to bother you at first, afraid you might not have felt well because you kept to yourself, but it seems that the men here should be ashamed of themselves to let a young woman like you stand on her own the whole evening and deprive her of a lovely dance." He spoke near perfect English, and the accent that was heard was a nice touch to his character. His sentence would've sounded a bit too cocky, had it not been for the genuine tone of voice and the bashful smile on his face that both left Elladine completely baffled.
Of course, they had let her stand to the side, not asking her for even one tiny dance. No one wanted anything to do with any Bridgerton, not anymore. But the prince wasn't from here, so even if he did know their family, Elladine wasn't so sure if he was aware of everything that had happened.
"Oh-“ She swallowed, sneaking a quick glance to her right, to Kate, who gave her an encouraging smile, “Your words are too kind, your Grace." At a loss for what else to say to the man in front of her, Elladine’s eyes wandered to the people behind him, only momentarily. But it had been enough for her to make eye contact with the woman approaching the crown prince of Spain.
Her sun kissed skin perfectly complimented her emerald ballgown, and her equally as green eyes mended wonderfully together with her brown wavy locks. Each and every girl that night had her hair neatly tucked away in a fashionable and ball appropriate hairdo, but this girl seemed to not care about etiquettes or traditions, as her wavy locks were only slightly held back by a clip on the back of her head, the rest of her hair falling down her back and chest and flowing freely.
Elladine caught herself enamoured by the mysterious woman now coming to a stop behind the prince,
Too focused on the woman, she adsentmindedly mumbled out, “Your Spanish- it’s formidable.”
Eloise's snort made her look up and realise her mistake, "I mean- your English, pardon me, your Grace.“ Her cheeks and ears turned crimson, suffocating her even more in this stuffy ballroom.
But Felipe only smiled, finding it adorable, “It is quite alright, Lady Elladine." Prince Felipe noticed who she was glancing at and put his hand on the brunette’s back, softly guiding her to stand beside him, "This is my sister, princess Graciela.”
Both Eloise, Kate and Elladine curtsied immediately, but the Spanish girl let out a breathy chuckle, "I know how painfully uncomfortable it is to bow when the air is being squeezed out of your lungs by a corset, so, please, rise." She too spoke perfect English, and Elladine found herself smiling at hearing the woman's voice, which had sounded like honey gliding off a silver spoon.
With a raised eyebrow, the prince switched the attention and brought it back to why he had approached the Bridgertons in the first place, “Lady Bridgerton, would you do me the honour of a dance? I would regret it deeply tomorrow morning if I had kept you standing here." Felipe’s voice brought Elladine back to the young man in front of her. She curtsied and nodded gently, letting the prince take her hand to guide her through the dancing couples who had quickly continued their waltzes.
Although hesitant, Elladine still knew she couldn't refuse the prince's request for a dance, even if she had rather stayed back with Eloise or perhaps try to exchange a few words with the prince's twin sister. Refusing a prince meant people would talk and that meant she would inevitably be the next scandal in the Whistledown. Their family had dodged that bullet before. Trying to do so a third time would be a dumb move, especially if she could prevent it by just dancing with the boy. Any other girl would have found it a great honour, so why did it not make her heart beat faster? Because, in all honesty, she could care less about a dance.
Violet Bridgerton watched with an anticipating grin on her face, but tried to play it down as she saw every other mother watch her way in envy or amazement. First Daphne, now Elladine? What was their secret to catching the eyes of dukes and princes? The look on Anthony's face was hard to read. His chin was raised and the usual stoic expression washed over his face as he looked through the room, meeting the gazes of everyone staring between them and the royals, but somewhere underneath, mixed with the protectiveness he still felt when another man held one of his baby sisters close, there was pride and joy bubbling under the surface. And hope, hope that Elladine, just like Daphne, would find her happy ending, something that their father would have wanted too.
As Elladine's sister and closest friend, Eloise had no trouble reading the girl's troubled features. Her kind eyes twinkled and her face displayed a gentle smile, at least that was what a stranger would see. To Eloise it was clear that her sister could not be feeling more out of place. It was evident in Elladine's eyes and by the way she glanced at the boy guiding her. Her heart wasn’t in it. She wasn’t smitten like every other girl if they so even looked the prince’s way. Eloise snorted to herself and continued eating the pastry she had stuffed away mere moments before.
"Not your thing either, I take it?”
Eloise turned around in an instant, smiling cheekily, curtsying clumsily, before quickly wiping her mouth with the edge of her sleeve, something that would've earned a pointed comment from her mother, had the woman not been too focused on Elladine and the prince.
Princess Graciela now stood beside her, hands tucked together behind her back as she scanned the crowd, an amused smile on her face after having seen Eloise's reaction to her presence. Kate glared slightly, but she meant well, wanting to keep Eloise in line, especially in front of a royal.
The princess continued, "Not my type of night either, but I am afraid I had no other choice— part of my birthright.” Her eyes set in disdain as she mumbled the last few words, almost as if she was ashamed others might hear her. She leaned closer to whisper into Eloise’s ear, “See them looking? They stare and stare but they are too frightened to even approach, let alone ask me to dance. As if I am made of pure arsenic.” She tutted quietly, “Another thing that comes with being born this way…” Princess Graciela’s eyes glazed over, as if she was thinking of something else, her mind wandering off, “-but that... I am grateful for."
Eloise chuckled, completely forgetting to stand straight and act properly in front of a royal, "Well, too bad I can't use that excuse. My mother has threatened to kill me if I keep rejecting dances.” She turned to the right, where Kate stood a few steps to the side, a smile on her face as she watched Elladine dance with the prince. Rendering it safe, Eloise continued, “Why are you thankful for that? Are you not like all the other girls who just love to have a dance with charming, gallantly young boys?" It suddenly seemed to dawn on Eloise again who she was talking to, and a look of panic struck her face. Graciela waved her off, liking how Eloise was talking to her like a friend, not bowing down to lay at her feet because she was a royal.
“Is she your friend?" Princess Graciela nodded towards the couples dancing together, “The woman my brother already seems to be enamoured by.”
Eloise followed the princess' line of sight and shook her head, "Sister, actually.”
She heard the princess hum beside her and she too focused back on the crowd, where her sister was being guided along the dance floor by the prince.
Elladine seemed to have trouble looking the poor boy in his eyes, as her eyes instead scanned each and every face but his. Eventually, they landed on her sister’s, then on the princess standing next to her. As they locked eyes, the look on Elladine's face changed like it hadn't before, like it hadn't when Felipe had looked her in the eye previously, or even now when he was holding her close. Elladine quickly looked away when she was guided around, thankful for the disruption of their eye-contact as she could hide the slight blush on her face. Though it could have clearly passed off as a healthy blush due to all the dancing.
“She looks like a gentle and wise young woman."
"Silly and stubborn, you mean." Eloise let out a laugh, before she realised she couldn't afford to ruin Elladine's chances with the prince, "Oh- um, sisters... you know? Always having it out for each other..." She let out a breathy chuckle, knowing she needed to set this right quickly, "Elladine is a lovely sister. She has a habit of naturally making people feel at ease. She’s generous and always interested in learning new things- oh, best not to forget the fire in her belly that all we Bridgerton's have. She excels at painting, but finds solace in playing musical instruments too. Violin, especially. The amount of times I wanted to throw that fiddle of hers into our estate’s pond because she kept playing and playing…“ Eloise rambled, but was content with the entertained smile on Graciela’s face that made it clear she had helped made an impression.
"She sounds like a pleasure to be around," Graciela spoke, her eyes not having left Elladine at all, even if the girl had made it her duty to ignore the princess’s gaze from now on. “You're Bridgertons, right?”
"Oh no...” Eloise shrunk and made a face, “You've read Whistledown?"
“Of course, I have. Doesn’t everyone find it thrilling to read about secret rendezvous and scandals?”
Eloise winced slightly, knowing all that the Whistledown had said about her and her family, “Right… thrilling.”
Graciela noticed something was afoot, and clarified herself, “It shows we’re human after all, and that we’re all the same in one way or another. And don’t fret, I’m smart enough to know that a rumour is just that— a false story. Even if they do make for the most delicious and entertainingly ridiculous tales.“ She gave Eloise a playful smile, trying to ease her nerves. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, Lady Bridgerton." Princess Graciela walked away and disappeared into the crowd of dancing men and women, until Eloise caught sight of her again as she appeared dancing with a young boy right next to Elladine and the prince.
“I thought you said you wouldn’t dance?” Felipe quirked an eyebrow and smirked playfully as he spoke to his sister. He turned Elladine around before his hands moved back to appropriately hold onto her waist.
Graciela grinned wickedly, “I was feeling bold.” Her eyes locked with Elladine's and the corner of her mouth quirked up. Elladine’s eyes widened ever so slightly before she forced herself to finally look into Felipe’s eyes instead.
Felipe rolled his eyes at her jesting and brought the attention back to the girl in his arms. "Free spirit, that one.” He clarified, smiling, before grabbing Elladine's hand to twirl her once more, sending the ends of her dress flowing before they wrapped around her legs. "You're different." He noted, quirking his head to the side while he examined Elladine's face with a twinkle in his eyes.
"Different how, your Grace?" Elladine loosened her grip on his shoulder, feeling suffocated by the situation and all the eyes on her. She focused on the golden embroidery on his collar instead.
"Forgive me for being so blunt, I don't mean to come across too self-assured, but you're... not besotted with me, not like the others are." He sounded insecure as if he had ruined his chances by saying something so stupid.
"Your Grace, I’ve only just met you." Elladine let out a gentle smile, as she was taught. She straightened her posture once more, keeping up the act.
Felipe immediately wished he could take it back, feeling like a fool. "Yes! Which I am grateful for! I meant... you don't seem to care about my royal status. You're calm… collected and you don't giggle at everything I say, even if it isn’t funny at all."
Seeing the Prince squirm before her, took away some of the pressure she was feeling. So, she replied, “Should I? Giggle at everything you say?"
Felipe saw the playful smile across the young Bridgerton's face and let out a relieved sigh, "No! Please, don't!" He laughed heartily, "I much prefer it this way. Would you-"
Felipe got interrupted as the couples switched, Elladine landing with a random man who gave her a kind smile, Felipe landing with one of the obsessed girls he had previously mentioned. His eyes scanned the crowd, not leaving Elladine's face as soon as he found her again.
"He can't keep his eyes off of her!" Violet gushed, nudging Anthony who remained quiet as he stood with his hands behind his back, quietly observing the whole ordeal.
On the other side of the room, Eloise noticed the same— though it was Princess Graciela who couldn't keep her eyes off Elladine from her place in the room. She knew how this worked, Graciela was just looking out for her brother, it was nothing different from Anthony throwing dangerous glances the prince's way, or when Kate would shoo away each and every man she deemed not worthy of her younger sister Edwina. It was only fair that Princess Graciela, as a woman, would be able to read the women her brother curtsied better than he himself, especially if one of the girls already made his heart thump loudly against his chest. Being royal probably added additional stress. She couldn't blame Graciela for being too careful.
The young man who was now dancing with the Bridgerton, seemed too shy to even look her in the eye or strike up a conversation, afraid he'd be too much of a disappointment after the Prince of Spain. He barely even touched her, feeling Felipe and everyone else in the room watching him.
"Where's Eloise?" Violet suddenly realised, knowing that Eloise would probably try to sneak out now that Elladine was the centre of attention. She looked to her eldest son, who saw the conflict in her eyes. She didn't want to miss a second of Elladine's first steps into the Ton, especially now that she had the attention of a royal, but she also very well knew Eloise would take the first carriage home if she got the chance.
"I’ll keep an eye on Elladine. And I need to deal with them," Anthony noted, his attention shifting to the group of boys hesitantly approaching him— suitors for Elladine who only now seemed to see the girl’s potential after the prince had taken the initiative.
Violet looked at her dancing daughter once more, knowing she would be alright with her eldest brother there. However, a distant but striking memory made her grab her son's sleeve and whisper in his ear, "Don't you dare make another one of those stupid mistakes as with Daphne and Lord Berbrooke."
"I won't! I promise."
Violet nodded curtly, lifted up her skirts so she wouldn't trip, and quickly made her way out of the room, in search of Eloise.
The dancing couples switched partners once more, and Felipe all but groaned when Graciela smoothly danced her way in front of Elladine, the girl's hands snaking to softly rest on Elladine's waist, even if the Bridgerton girl seemed shocked and unsure of her new dancing companion. The princess ignored the looks she was getting, the gasps people were letting out, or how she heard her brother call out her name in protest.
With wide eyes and pure terror in her eyes, Elladine quicky muttered, "Your Grace, I'm sure this isn't how this dance is-"
"You almost look repulsed. Have you never seen two girls dance before?" The princess teased, a challenging look in her eyes as she tilted her head to the side, taking in the small details of Elladine's features that she could now make out from their new close distance. ”Should we not be able to dance without a man? Have they not taken enough from us already?" She said it so easily while she looked around, greeting people left and right with a wide smile, as if she hadn't just put each man around her in a bad light. “Why are you all so modest over here?”
Elladine let out a shaky sigh, one filled with nerves and the fear of rejection, judgement and shame. Graciela held her tight but still ever so gently. Dancing with Graciela was so different from dancing with Felipe. It wasn't only the obvious male and female differences, like their height or the lack of big muscles in the girl’s arms holding her close. While Felipe had smelled of nothing to Elladine's liking, Graciela smelled fresh yet sultry... like mystery, like flowers blooming in the night, where no one was ever around to see but that didn't stop them from blooming anyway. Elladine’s eyes quickly glanced around the room, seeing confusion and disapproval on the faces around her.
Even if their dance encounter had barely lasted ten seconds, the princess noticed the hesitance in Elladine's steps, and horror on the Bridgerton's face, and so she let go, a childlike grin on her face as to not alarm the spectators, showing them they were just two young girls being silly at a dance. Nothing more. Nothing less.
“I apologise, Lady Bridgerton.“ Her voice came out as soft as a whisper, and as everyone twirled their partner around, she disappeared into the hands of another while Felipe made his way back to Elladine Bridgerton.
And with that, Elladine's mood was ruined. She couldn't quite put a finger on why, but something caged inside her had felt like another cage had just locked her further away. This was proof she would never be truly happy, never be able to live her life like she wanted to. She would always only be able to be someone others wanted her to be, she could only show what others wanted to see. Because they were always watching, that was just the way it was. Even now, strangers looked at her and narrowed their eyes. Either they saw a tainted Bridgerton or a naive little girl, but whatever it was, she hated it. She hated how she had to dance with men she didn't ever want to grow old with, just to appease the ton. It was her life, was it not?
A cold sweat suddenly coated her neck, and she felt lightheaded at all the twirling and waltzing. The stuffy air wasn’t doing wonders either. She needed to get out of there, and quick.
She took a step back and stumbled out of Felipe’s arms, “I need to look for my sister." She quickly came up with, using all her energy on trying to focus on the path out and thus forgetting the proper formalities. She rushed off the ballroom floor, through the crowd and out of the room, painfully aware of all the eyes on her as she left, and how she had left the crown prince of Spain all on his own, who was too stunned to move as he could only watch her run away from him. Heat rose to her cheeks immediately at the thought and at the realisation that she could very well be the talk of the city tomorrow, especially if Lady Whistledown had seen it all unfold as well. But she knew she couldn’t go back now. Even the chilly weather outside could not help cool her down, but at least she was alone.

It is to my sincerest regret that I cannot inform you, my dear readers, about a new diamond just yet. Not only did Her Majesty the Queen not call the season’s diamond after the presentation, but she kept silent during the opening ball of the season as well. Though this year, it seems as if no official approval of Her Majesty is needed, for one lucky lady already has the approval of the Ton and that of Crown Prince Felipe. The prince did not ask another to dance after Lady Elladine Bridgerton, whose cheeks adorned an adorable blush all evening long. Like a young couple in love in a true fairytale, they could not tear their eyes away from each other during their first dance. I shall tip my head to you, Lady Violet Bridgerton, for doing it once again. Perhaps it is just the Bridgerton luck. All the nerves and flutters of the night did a number on the young lady whose attention was captured by that of the prince, and she left looking unwell, leaving the prince alone and up for grabs. She would not be the first to faint under the gaze of that dashingly handsome Prince, I’m sure. Even His Grace’s sister the Princess seemed content and in approval of her brother’s lady of choice. Still, the Ton awaits for Her Majesty’s announcement of their newest diamond. Does the Queen dare to pick another diamond not to the Prince’s liking and therefore discredit his judgement? We shall see. Your move, Your Majesty.

Bridgerton proposals rated by level of chaos
Anthony - While courting her sister, Anthony panics when Kate is stung by a bee, proceeds to attempt to suck out the poison from her clavicle, and is caught by their mothers and Lady Featherington. Lady F says they'll have to marry and Anthony announces they'll be married next week. No proposal, Kate is never consulted. Anthony then ravishes her in the gazebo. 10/10. Complete Chaos.
Benedict - After repeatedly propositioning Sophie to be his live-in mistress, Benedict finds out she has been arrested for theft, shows up at the jail, punches the warden, and demands to know why his fiancé is being held prisoner. No proposal. Lady B almost punches Sophie's evil stepmother. 12/10. Utter Chaos.
Colin - Like a day after realizing that he finds Penelope incredibly attractive, Colin chases her through London, discovers she's Lady Whistledown, throws her in his carriage, lectures her, ravishes her, then they arrive back at her house and he hops out of the carriage and says, "well are you going to marry me or not?" Technically a proposal. 7/10. Chaos compounded by Lady F somehow thinking he's proposing to Pen's little sister.
Daphne - Daphne disrupts a duel for her honor, punches Simon in the eye, and insists he marry her because their garden makeout session was seen. Simon say he cannot have children, omitting that it's a personal choice and not a medical condition, and Daphne says good to know not a problem we're doing this. No real proposal. No one's happy with the outcome. Pistols and bickering big brothers in attendance for added chaos. 8/10
Eloise - Phillip proposes in a letter before they ever meet, failing to mention he has two children. Eloise packs a bag and leaves for his house without telling anyone. Phillip is shocked to discover her on his doorstep. The brothers are forced to ride after to her to defend her honor. Eloise doesn't understand why everyone's making such a fuss. Colin grumbles he's meant to be on his honeymoon. Beautiful Eloise-brand chaos abounds. 7/10
Francesca - Michael pines for a decade. He proposes. Franny says no. They have sex. He proposes. She says maybe. They have more sex. He nearly dies of malaria. Eventually they get married. By any other family's standards, it would be legendary chaos, but we're talking about the Bridgertons. 5/10
Gregory - HOO BOY. Gregory proposes/propositions Lucy despite her being engaged to someone else. She agrees but then is threatened by her treasonous uncle and goes through with the original marriage. Gregory interrupts the wedding. Lucy turns him down in front of the whole Ton. At the reception Gregory kidnaps her, then gets into a shootout with her uncle. Her now-husband agrees to annul the marriage. Absolute freaking chaos. No notes. 27/10
Hyacinth - Despite midnight rendezvous, breaking and entering, and a treasure hunt, Hyancinth's proposal is shockingly normal. Gareth formally asks Anthony's permission, then gets down on one knee and proposes properly. 2/10. Mildly disappointing, considering H's chaotic personality.

Can we get a Bridgerton sister reader who is over looked most of the time only noticed when they see the reader has a close relationship with queen weather they see notice her absents or lady Whistledown writes about it your choice
The Forgotten Twin
Bridgerton sister reader
A/n- I hope you like it I am still unsure if I do LOL
Angst
Pronouns- She/her
Word Count- 989
Summary- The reader is Daphne's twin often overshadowed and forgotten until a shocking announcement by Lady Whistledown.
Tumblr media
Y/n was used to being overshadowed by her twin, it's been like this since they were born. Daphne seemed to always be one step in front of Y/n. She crawled first, walked first, and talked first, Y/n was used to it now at age twenty-one. However, she had been dreading this age since she had learned about coming out into society. She knew from the instant she heard about it that Daphne would outshine her. Though Y/n had given up caring that Daphne did everything before her and that her mother favored her because Y/n excelled in something Daphne never did, and that was her intelligence. She was quick-witted and had a sharp tongue due to being compared to Daphne her whole life. Her mother, of course, did not see this as a good quality to have as it is not a preferred trait by suitors. This is the main reason she has been dreading this event she knew it would just be another thing about her that disappoints her mother.
Even though Y/n's Mother and her brothers did not find her qualities preferable her sister Eloise loved them. Eloise was Y/n's twin personality wise but in appearance and age she was destined to be Daphne's twin in turn she was always destined to be compared to her. Y/n was losing her confidant, Eloise to Lady Whistledown and she was feeling more alone than ever.
Y/n spent her days getting fitted for coming-out gowns, practicing piano, and reading in her spare time. All of these activities were solitary minus the seamstress and maids.
When the day finally came for the ball it was really not a shock to anyone that Daphne was declared the diamond of the season. Y/n tried to blend into the wall, balls and dancing never being her scene and that would not start now. That was until the next ball when Lady Whistledown made a report about this year's diamond severely lacking any suitors and being outshined by the Fetherington's cousin.
One of the Queen's servants came to retrieve Y/n for a meeting with her Highness during the second ball of the season. At first, she couldn't breathe she was encapsulated by her worry that she must have done something truly horrid to offend the Queen what other reason would she have with her.
Y/n followed the servants in silence, worried they could hear her heart beating loudly. She stood before the Queen and summoned her best curtsey she could manage.
The Queen lowered her Galilean binoculars and looked into Y/n's eyes, "You are an interesting young lady, Y/n."
Y/n considers this to be a dream because there is no way this could be a reality it seems like a fantasy book she would have read.
"Now you may lack the social skills of your dear sister, but there is something about you." A small mischievous smile appears on the Queen's face.
After this encounter, Y/n would spend many days sneaking into the Queen's quarters without her family's knowledge. She didn't like not telling her family about the Queen's plan and their frequent meetings but the Queen saw something no one else saw in Y/N, potential.
Dearest Reader,
It would seem that our diamond of the season had a diamond in the rough in their very own family waiting for their moment to shine. The great jewelers say it takes just the right amount of pressure to make a rock a diamond and we all know our dear Y/n Bridgerton has been under pressure her whole to live up to Daphne. The Queen has certainly taken notice of Y/n's diamond potential and has now been having secret weekly meetings with the eldest Bridgerton daughter.
Y/n was completely unaware of the new announcement by Lady Whistledown. She just so happened to be getting ready for one of these aforementioned meetings with the Queen. As Y/n was on her way out the door she heard several pairs of heavy footsteps down the large staircase in their home.
"Y/n Bridgerton!" Shouted her mother.
Y/n quickly whipped around to face her mother with fear as she knew those fiery eyes well.
"How could you do this to your sister," she shouts holding up today's crumpled Lady Whistledown.
Daphne looked disappointed standing next to their Mama, "Daph... I am sorry. I didn't mean for you to find out this way." Y/n frowns figuring out instantly Daphne knew about her betrayal from her eyes.
"What did you think would happen? That no one would ever notice you sneaking in and out of the Queen's quarter with her hundreds of servants," Daphne judged Y/n.
Eloise interrupted the argument, "How odd you don't even seem to notice Y/n's presence until she does something you disapprove of," Eloise glared which made Y/n smile she wasn't used to being stood up for.
Eloise puts a finger to her chin, "I also find it odd that Y/n is getting all the blame when Daphne wouldn't be suitorless if it wasn't for Anthony's constant meddling in her affairs."
Benedict and Colin held back their chuckles at Eloise's bluntness and Y/n smiled widely. It felt like they were seeing her even though the cause was bad her siblings were still being there for her.
Y/n ran up and hugged Eloise and she responded with a triumphant smile.
Daphne sighed, "I am sorry Y/n... the season has been rough on us all. Mother and I shouldn't have come down on you so hard. We should be there for each other, not always competing."
Y/n had to blink away tears, these are words she has always wanted to hear from Daphne. All she could respond was thank you and hope Daphne understood how much Y/n meant it.

Day 25 Prompt: "Do I look like I knew that?"

Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
"You know, lazy days like this are by far my favorite," I mused, curling into my husband's side as we laid in bed together. "No galas, no gossip from the Ton. Just the two of us."
"I certainly have to agree," said Benedict, my husband, as he traced patterns on the bare skin of my back. "Although, I do enjoy watching Colin wade through the swarm of Mamas every time we go out, now that he is the only unwed Bridgerton son. At least until Gregory gets a bit older."
"I'd say you were being mean, but he did ditch you and Anthony for quite a while in his travels."
"Yes, he did. So he deserves this."
I laughed, shaking my head a bit at my husband's antics. A moment later, he pulled me tighter to his side, rolling us so I laid completely on top of his chest. I rose up on my elbows to meet his eyes and found him looking at me with a mischevious smile.
"You know, it's just occurred to me," he started. "There are quite a few ways I can think of that our time would be better spent than talking about my brother."
"Oh really?" I asked, grinning and leaning down closer to Benedict. "And what might those ideas be?"
"Well for starters..."
With that, he brought his hand up to the back of my neck and pulled me into a searing kiss. I rested all my weight on him, kissing right back, until a knock at the door jarred us both out of the moment.
Reluctantly, I pulled away, and Benedict let me. We shared a look.
"Maybe whoever it is will go away if we ignore them," he whispered in suggestion. As if he'd willed it into happening, a voice from the other side of the door called out.
"Y/N! If you're in there, please, I need to talk to you."
Eloise. Benedict's little sister, who I'd become close with throughout the course of Benedict courting me. I gave Benedict an apologetic look.
"No," he whined as I rolled off of him, quickly wrapping a robe around myself and heading for the door.
"I have to," I replied. "I can't ignore her. Make yourself decent."
With that, I turned from my husband and went to open the door just wide enough to see Eloise on the other side, and for her to see me.
"Oh, thank goodness!" she cried, moving to push past me and into the room. I let her, just hoping that Benedict had done as I'd said. Eloise and I had done this a few times as we'd gotten closer, and whenever it happened, I knew she really, truly needed me.
I turned around to follow Eloise back into the room after shutting the door behind me, only to find her frozen just a few steps from where she'd come in. Benedict stood next to the bed, looking tired but resigned to our new morning activity as he laced up his shirt.
"Good morning, Eloise," he said, a little edge of teasing in his tone. "You know, I was trying to enjoy the morning with my wife-"
"Do I look like I knew that?" she cried. I fought back a laugh as I walked forward to wrap my arm around her shoulder.
"It's alright, Eloise," I said. "Benedict and I were about to get up for the morning, anyway."
Benedict shot me a look with his eyebrows almost into his hairline, and I glared right back, imploring him to go along with me. He cleared his throat.
"Right. That we were. What did you need help with, sister?"
She hesitated, so I walked around to face her, putting both of my hands on her shoulders and blocking her eyeline to Benedict. I gave her a small smile, so she'd know everything was alright, then spoke in a low voice that I knew Benedict wouldn't be able to hear.
"If this is a ladies' problem, or one you don't want your brother to know about, El, I'll throw him out of here right now and we can talk, alright? But if you're embarrassed about knocking when you did, then you truly don't need to be. We love you, and we'd both drop far more important things to help you whenever you need it."
Eloise sighed, nodding a little as she did. The bright red blush that had risen to her cheeks started to fade, and she at last met my eyes again.
"Thank you. I... suppose it wouldn't hurt to have Benedict's input as well," she said. I nodded, giving her a bright smile before turning around to face my husband.
"Put your problem-solving hat on, Benedict," I said. I started drifting for the couches by Benedict's turret window, one of my favorite features of his room. "We've got a family matter to deal with."
They both beamed at me as they started following me over to the couch. I'd considered a few of Benedict's siblings as good as family for a long time now, but it felt amazing to be able to say that and have it be completely true.
Benedict and Eloise settled into the couch on either side of me, Benedict resting his arm across my shoulders. Those kinds of casual touches would've been scandalous before we were married, but now we could do them whenever we wanted to, which also made my heart sing.
Eloise gave us both one last look with a raised eyebrow, then launched into her explanation of the problem that had brought her to our doorstep, which had something to do with a boy of virtually no social status who'd caught her attention. Benedict and I spent the rest of the morning, helping her as best we could, in the way only we could.
Although I hated that Eloise had to deal with the problems she dealt with, a small part of me sang the entire morning as Benedict and I worked together, the perfect team, to help his little sister. This was going to be the rest of our lives, with Eloise and maybe someday with children of our own, and I couldn't be happier thinking about that future with Benedict. We made the perfect team.

I never felt like this before I think I might just want some more I never felt like this before I think I might just
Slide, shake your bones out if you wanna ride Throw your head back, make you feel alive The kind of bad that make you feel good, good God, the kinda wrong that make you feel right The little death that make you feel alive The kinda shouldn't that mean that you should, should, should
It makes your blood run hot It makes your spit taste sweet It makes you feel more alive Than you have ever been Throw it into your mouth Gets stuck between your teeth Why would you die up there When you can live underneath? Dirty little animals Beautiful cannibals
Dirty Little Animals by Bones Uk Damn I love this song... The reason why I had the poll is the tonal whiplash these two snippets have... (I know there is still time for the poll, but I'm impatient person right now.) But the people have spoken and here is the scribble I promised : DD (apologies for all the typos and grammar errors...) ⬇️⬇️⬇️
"In the middle of the most extravagant party of the season, I certainly hope that I wasn't the only one who caught some intense stares between the two most sought-after suitors. The ever rude and barking, the first prince of Benitoite had insulted more than half of the eligible ladies of the ton before the first dance of the night had even finished its last steps. For our surprise, the seventh prince of our beloved kingdom of roses, didn't come and prey on the discouraged beautiful young women, being the rake that we all know and gossip about extensively. But instead he quickly went and offered a glass of fine rose liquor to with the most gentlest of gestures to the fellow prince and asked to join him away from the other guests. Now, it isn't a secret that the fox and the hound are very well acquainted with one another, seen quite often discussing the offers of the more fairer sex. Regardless I can't help but wonder, my dear readers, that were the looks exchanged between the princes something more intimate and playfully challenging than we have ever witnessed from these two ever? Or maybe it is just sly fox playing mind games with the hound of our allied nation? I'm certainly very curious to see if we can witness such looks again."
