I feel like even in trans positive spaces trans men are seen as less authentic than trans women, because we supposedly have something to gain by transitioning or wanting to be men. (social power.) It's reflective of how we look at historical people that by today's standards we would see as trans men (Joan of Arc) or fictional characters that live as men while secretly being women. (Naoto from Persona, Sheik from Zelda.) And this is going to be an uphill battle until we get rid of gender essentialism in our spaces completely.

Boromir's adventures in New Zeland
screens and transcript from the Reunited Apart: LotR edition
Tumblr media
Sean Astin: The first time Elijah and I met Sean, we were in Queenstown and there was a big flood and they were building sets on the squash court to try and find some way to uh…
Tumblr media
Peter Jackson: As soon as somebody gets remotely boring it just freezes.
Tumblr media
Sean Astin: The point is we were playing a video game and Sean Bean's character was 006 and I shot 006 in the head on screen with a perfectly photo-real likeness of Sean and then Sean walked right by afterwards.
Tumblr media
Peter Jackson: ... The best story about that flood was that everyone was driving from the top of the South Island to the bottom to shoot, and some people were flying and some people were driving and Orlando and Sean Bean were in a car with Bridget Bourke, our production coordinator, and we were checking in with them to see what they were about.
Tumblr media
Peter Jackson: It's a very remote part of the country (...), but what happened is the car that Orlando and Sean were driving over a mountain and they come around a corner and it's got a huge slip, you know, that the hillside's falling down, 'cause it was a torrential storm. They had to turn around to head back and do this long detour, they go around the next corner and it... the landslide was in front of them. They thought they'd actually left the landslide behind them! Okay so they were now stuck between two landslides in the remotest part of New Zeland, by themselves. There's an old lady living by herself in the house, so she invites them in for a cup of tea and they end up staying with her for about three days. Is that right?
Tumblr media
Orlando Bloom: It was sort of like that. Okay, what happened was we got to a gas station, they said well... we were stuck between two roadslides and they said well, we've got some lodges accomodation, like backpackers' accomodation… And the first thing, the frist thing Sean got was...
Tumblr media
Orlando Bloom: OH NO, NO, WE GOT MONEY! WE CAN PAY. So we had this one room and I remember Sean had the bedroom, I slept on the couch with Bridget in the same room. And then the whole crazy thing about this story though for Sean is that he hates to fly. Like literally, we had to take a helicopter to get to work and I remember sitting next to Sean in this helicopter going up over the...
Tumblr media
Orlando Bloom: ... we had to go up over the [inaudible] to get to Queenstown and his hand on my knee, I will never forget it. It was like white knuckle… it was like a drop of only white and nothing…
Tumblr media
Peter Jackson: ... It was because of that, that when we within a week or so we had a scene that we all had to be helicoptered up to this lake and it was quite high in the mountains, and Sean just said...
Tumblr media
Peter Jackson: Look, I can't do it. I'll come very, very early, I'll get on me gear or borrow me gear and I'll start to climb. Just on foot. We were flying up and I looked down and there's this vast, vast cliff, and on the mountain I could see Sean, like a human fly, climbing up.
Elijah Wood: [hysterical laughter]

Dear @faisonsunreve thanks for the tag. This was definitely a time taking task but so much fun to do. A true time travel to your watching history. To my surprise there are three French films and three Tom Hanks films included. 😄
A few comments about certain choices.
Favorite film of all time: The Thief of Bagdad (1940): The jewel of the film is Conrad Veidt’s insane Jaffar dressed up with the turban.
Best script: Some Like It Hot (1959): The story about two antihero musicians trying to make a living and avoiding gangsters by dressing as women and joining a female band and traveling to Miami is still unique to watch.
Favorite poster: The Empire Strikes Back (1980): Memories from the childhood. Darth Vader’s perhaps a little too epic posture promises you an emotional adventure and that promise will be fulfilled.
"I’ll watch it some day": Napoléon (1927): @missholson and I were introduced to this 6-hour biopic of Napoleon and we were stunned by the shots of the twenty-minute triptych sequence, where widescreen panorama is made by projecting multiple-image montages simultaneously on three screens. Blu-ray is waiting on the shelf.
Big personal impact: Elvis (2022): I wasn’t prepared for the narrative where female gaze and male vulnerability are allowed and validated.
You like, but everyone hates: Angels & Demons (2009): Don’t know today’s reception but when it was released the film was heavily criticized by the critics and the audience. I like both this and The Da Vinci Code (2006), but having more convincing characters, plot and hold for the entirety makes it better than the first one.
Underrated: The Ninth Gate (1999): Polanski is a very contradictory director for his sexual abuse charges, therefore it feels shameful to admit liking his films or considering his films to be valued. Many find Gate as a dull thriller. The film doesn’t rely on jump scares or gore but the mystery around the occult books and the things you can’t see.
"Why do I like this?": Bachelor Party (1984): This is my favourite question of them all. I discussed with @faisonsunreve about on what basis you should answer this and does it reveal your true movie taste. The 80’s crazy comedy is a silly and out-dated genre and that is why the films of this era fascinate me. Bachelor Party is full of lame humor and over-the-top characters. Yet the storyline is versatile and entertaining. Young Tom Hanks embodies the past.
Great soundtrack: La Cage aux Folles (1978): Ennio Morricone has said first he has to understand the film, the images, the story and the director’s intentions before starting to compose. I would like to know his study for Folles, because the soundtrack has such a humorous, characteristic and warm sound.
That cinematography: Furiant (2015): I was balancing between Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) and La double vie de Véronique (1991), but this short film stands out with the way the rural landscapes, the dimly lit rooms and the unspoken moments are visualized (and edited) by the producer, director, writer, cinematographer and editor Ondřej Hudeček.
Criminally overlooked: Angélique film series (1964-68): Yes, you could put almost any Conrad Veidt film here, however I chose this. I have been fond of Angélique films since I was a child. These spectacles tell the story of Angélique in the time of King Louis XIV of France. Romance, adventure, scheming with breathtaking soundtrack and costume design, beautiful Michèle Mercier in the leading role and the flashy way of speaking French offer us an exquisite interpretation from the 60’s.
Favorite active director: Peter Strickland: I have seen only The Duke of Burgundy (2014) and Flux Gourmet (2022), nevertheless his style of using the aesthetics of Italian genre films and the intimacy he creates is just heartwarming.
Anyone who wants to make their own version, please do and let me know. 📼📀📦🔦

I'm at this really cool stage of elden ring called "how do i beat this damn game."
To put it in words that make sense, I am trying to figure out both what Vigor Bridget Steppy needs and if my silly little Brick hammer can carry me over the finish line or if I need to start upgrading an actually good end-game weapon. If I am even close to endgame. I'm not sure.
Its just very snowy and there are large skeletons that cowardly phase away from me.

Ensemble 2023 LotR Musical references
I've been collecting reference images of lots of the cast and characters for my own art, so I thought I'd just share them collected here as well so others don't have to slog through the Instagram and crop images and screenshot videos etc. These are all from the Watermill Theatre Instagram/website/reviews, with most photos credited to Pamela Raith.
Here are the ensemble hobbits, Lobelia Sackville-Baggins/Bridget Lappin, Otho Sackville-Baggins/Reece Causton, Mrs. Bracegirdle/Kelly Coughlin, and other hobbits I didn't catch the names of, Zara Naeem and Elliot Mackenzie

Legend of the Seekers Main Casts (Then vs Now)
An underrated Medieval Fantasy show I first watched as a kid. As someone who love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, watched shows like Xena and Hercules, it was a welcoming surprise to find a medieval fantasy show.
Now re-watching it again as an adult, I realise two seasons are not enough as the the book series, which this show is based and inspired on still continues after season 2, which makes me want season 3 to happen.
Age is not an issue to me, they still look incredible now. If shows like Cobra Kai, Jurassic World, Star Wars, Top Gun Maverick and Ghostbusters are able to get the original casts to return, I don’t see why we can’t do the same.
Last month (Sep 2022), Tabrett Bethell (Cara Mason) post a throwback photo of her character with Craig Horner (Richard Cypher) which prompted replies from both Craig Horner and Bridget Regan (Kahlan Amnell).
Tumblr media
It was clear from the comments that a lot of fans wants the show to return, especially now with the popularity of medieval fantasy shows like House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power.
The stars themselves are no doubt more than happy to reprise their roles provided they have the same producers and studios or at least with good writing as it is not easy to retain the original vibes and atmosphere.
Something which divides the fans of Lord of the Rings with The Rings of Power, as the new series does not really capture the spirit and atmosphere of Peter Jackson’s trilogy as it is not easy to simply duplicate the art of another.
Unlike House of the Dragon which manage to retain the vibes of Game of Thrones, from its soundtrack, characters, story-telling and atmosphere. But like any franchise, nothing can really beat or duplicate the original.
Well, for now, we can only hope that they will return, even for just one season. For now, here’s a wholesome clip of Tabrett Bethell goofing around with Bridget Regan on set.

Came up with an alias for assassin!Phoenix (Yes, I’m not discarding the “Phoenix becomes a de Killer” AU.)
It’s Bridget, and if we compare it to Shelly, it checks all the boxes:
a relatively common name
traditionally given to the opposite gender
not a word name, but has a whole noun inside (and a concrete noun at that - something you can draw on a card, for example)
And it’s extra good for Phoenix because of Bridge to the Turnabout!

Media takes for today
Ring fit adventure is fun i want to play more.
Bridget is now trans we can't change that, yes before strive she was kinda a transphobic stereotype, yes we diserve trans women in media that are better representation, but i will not turn away trans rep because it's not the best. I understand that Bridget's backstory kinda makes it seem like she was groomed into things like feminine dress, however being trans is more than feminine dress and she diserves to live her true self.
Frag Christopher Paolini, I don't care eragon should be trans. In fact i am going to think of eragon as both a trans aligory and is now a trans story.
