🎶Sippin’ on Gin &……Punch!🎶 - Hey gang, for those of you looking for an excellent breakfast/brunch option in VA Beach, you need not look any further than @redheadbaycafe - They have generous portions of everything they offer food wise (it was apparent to me that their tots were totally worth checking out and they were right, jaw dropping beauties on site!) but their brunch heavy cocktail program is a winner. Heavy options in the mimosa, Bloody Mary and coffee cocktail department, but they also have local brand cocktail support such as their Gin Bubbly, a @catoctincreek Watershed Gin based refresher mixed with @stgermaindrinks, blood orange juice and topped with Champagne and an edible flower. Don’t sleep, this is 100% a brunch cocktail but it’s also one that is going to get the party started! Honey syrup Grapefruit peel for shaker Add all ingredients including grapefruit peel to shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a fresh grapefruit twist. - This one is for all you bourbon lovers out there who need a new morning drink. This week, Alex from @designingdrunk and I had an unintentional mind meld when we both decided to make a Brown Derby cocktail. The Brown Derby is a classic morning bourbon cocktail thats sweet and tart. This is a brunch drink for those who need a little extra kick to their weekend morning then say a mimosa. The traditional recipe calls for bourbon, grapefruit 🍊 juice, and honey 🍯. Alex adds a few dashes of grapefruit bitters to his recipe and I use a technique called the "regal shake" which is simply adding a citrus peel to the shaker with the ingredients. Both techniques add some needed bitterness to this drink which can get a little too sweet if you aren't careful. They're subtle tweaks on an otherwise great classic that bring a little more balance. This is an oldie, but a goodie--at least when brunch is concerned. I made this cocktail for someone at work as a before-dinner drink. The recipe calls for peach nectar, which wasn't always easy to come by in the dark ages of cocktails. I like to add a dash of Peachtree schnaps to up the alcohol and flavor, since there isn't much room to work with when it comes to liquid that fits into a champagne flute.

2 oz. peach nectar

champagne or sparkling water

dash Peachtree schnapps (optional)

Build drink in a chilled champagne flute with peach nectar and top with champagne.

Holiday Mornings🍾🍋 This is my riff on a drink I had a few years ago @neptuneoyster in Boston, MA. Take Homemade Lemondade.. We have made it before but depending on amount of juice per lemon for a quart mason jar use about half a cup of lemon juice and sugar to taste. I use between half and 3/4 cup sugar and the rest is just water! I always leave one lemon to float. Love the oils from the lemon skin! DO NOT MAKE BULK! Take your champagne flute put 1oz of the lemonade in the bottom of flute and then fill with champagne. Serve. It's wonderful with anything salty like oysters or lobster or crab! ! For brunch, make some lobster rolls or crab cakes! Serve with some thick-cut French fries with Tripping Vittles Bourbon Barrel Flake Salt and aioli. Enjoy you holiday!
