hi professor!
someone dumped a budew in a pot at my doorstep. I can only assume whoever dumped the poor thing has seen my oddish waddling around during it's free roam time.
It doesnt seem obviously ill other than some dehydration, which i gave it water for. However, it hasn't left the pot and is either in some sort of hibernation or is feigning sleep while i am around.
My oddish seems to like the newcomer just fine, hanging out by it's pot in the windowsill. I am inclined to keep it, but i cant help but feel something might be up, can you weigh in?
This depends entirely on species origin, age, and diet.
If it shows no yellowing, no brown edges or spots, no withering other than that of dehydration, no black spot, no patches of paler colours, or damage from bug types, it could very well just be young. Budew spend a fair bit of time in the soil before they pull up and go wandering. They can be timid, so just being around it and not drawing too much attention to it will slowly allow it to adjust to you. Youre huge compared to it, and totally new, it just got abandoned by someone, and may be quite scared! fear can take time to lessen, so just go about your days, include it in things if you can, pop it out in the sun during freeroam time with the oddish and leave them to their own devices. With the encouragmenet from other grass types it may grow bolder and consider uprooting. They however wont do this until healthy and ready to do so. Grass types are a species for patient sorts, you no doubt know this already, just give it time.
If you want to give it a little help, try burrying some banana peel around its pot, no more than 5cm squared i'd say if its young. The Phospheros in the peel will help give it a boost. you can easily slip the peel in around the edges of its pot without disturbing it too much. its roots will find it in time.
Good news is the Roselia line is TOUGH! theyre beautiful and resilient, so you dont have to fuss too much pn the physical aspects until you notice problems occuring. Emotionally however, just stay calm and patient with it, its been through a lot, and the worlds probably quite scary and new to this little critter. They warm to kind souls fast, so I don't doubt in no time at all, it'll be more active around you. If the problem persists, return and we can look into this further.

Pokemon Crossbreeds: Rose Bouquet
Rose Bouquet, also just called Boquet, is the name for members of the Sprigatitio line with Roselia/Roserade fathers. They were named after their flowers now resembling roses. The breed has been around in Paldea since medieval times. They were most often held by noble families as a sign of wealth, as Roserade and Roselia are not native to Paldea, ao the crossbreeds were very expensive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sprigatito
Tumblr media
Boquet Spriagatio gain the patterns of Budew. Instead of a grass scent, they produce a rose scent, which has been loved by many people for years. However, their feet produces a small amount of pollen, with males producing more than females, which is something to be aware of if you have allergies. They are also more sensitive to temperature changes, ao expect them to be sluggish in cold weather.
Floragato
Tumblr media
My favorite member of this line! Boquet Floragato gain the roses of Roselia, but they also gain roselia's eyelashes, Roselia's crown pattern on their face, the yellow mark on their chest fur, and their yoyo becomes rose shaped. Their roses produce a strong scent and, lucky for us, they don't produce any poison. HOWEVER, they still produce thorns, so it's not safe to walk up and poke them. Boquet Floragato use these thorns to their advantage when attacking, using their showmanship and roses to lure in their opponents and attack.
Meowscarada
Tumblr media
(Click for better quality)
Rose Boquet Meowscarada gain a color scheme that more closely matched of Roserade. They gain a cloak over their shoulders as well as Roserade's collar, and the flower in their neck becomes red. Their bomb also now resembles a boquet of roses.
Like Roserade, Boquet Meowscarada use their sweet rose scent to attract prey before attacking them. They also move in a way similar to Roserade, moving like a dancer and jabbing with their arms.

Here's an interesting one for you, got any Roserade headcanons?
Flower shops sometimes sell bouquets based off of Roserade's during the holidays.
Roselia have been bred to have a number of different qualities, such as some that don't have poisonous thorns. However, these varieties typically don't have as good of a scent.
Budew are commonly used as an environmental indicator of the health of areas like meadows and gardens.
While purple and black remain exclusive to the shinies, the line comes in some different colors depending on breed and region. Yellow and white are a popular variety.
The line can live up to 30 years, and are popular with trainers and beauty contestants alike.

Class: Evolution and Age
Hello everyone! I'm Ranger Lark, feel free to just call me Lark, I use he/they pronouns. And this here is my partner, Sedge- she/her. I'm hear to teach about evolution, particularly some common misconceptions about it, and how it can be different across different Pokemon species.
Now, some of you may already be familiar with evolution. Especially those of you with more experience training and battling. How many of you have had a pokemon evolve?
Now, many people think of evolution as a developmental stage- like a baby growing into an old person. This is actually a common misconception! Most unevolved Pokemon are fully adults!
Now, there are some species for whom evolution is a necessary part of the life cycle. This is especially common in bug types. Female combee need to evolve into Vespiqueen, for example, to reproduce. And as a scientific term, the category of "Baby" pokemon, including pokemon like Magby, Budew and Mantyke, doesn't just mean young or newborn pokemon. It refers to pokemon that are incapable of breeding at that stage of evolution.
Now, the belief that evolution is a growth stage goes hand in hand with the misconception that evolution is necessary for every pokemon. And that's just not true! Most wild pokemon live perfectly healthy and full lives without ever evolving. Here are some photos of elderly but unevolved pokemon! [IDs in Alt]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if evolution isn't about growing up, why do pokemon evolve? Well, that's going to be different for every species! For a lot of pokemon, evolution is only necessary as a kind of battle-form, for pokemon that deal with threats frequently. For example, in the Olive Jungle of my homeland in Fiore, you can find squads of Treecko, with one or two Grovyle, and very rarely any Sceptile. The evolved grovyle act as protectors for the rest of the group, and the rest of the Treecko live their lives without needing to fight many wild pokemon, and not evolving.
This is why evolution is so common among the pokemon who belong to trainers! Evolution is adapted primarily for battling, or similar high-need situations. So a pokemon who is frequently battling and competing in gyms is very likely to evolve, because it simulates an environment in which the high energy cost of evolution is worth the strength benefits. For the vast majority of wild pokemon, they're not in combat enough to need that boost.
Rockruff are another great example of a species using evolution for a specific niche. Rockruff and lycanroc packs are actually families. There are usually two lycanroc parents- 'Alphas', to use the outdated term- and their children. The most successful packs often have a mix of forms, one day and one night lycanroc, so the young are protected around the clock. As long as there's a leader, the rockruff won't evolve. They are actually able to hormonally suppress and delay evolution for this purpose. It's only when a rockruff goes out to seek a mate and start its own pack- or takes over as leader from their elderly parent- that a rockruff will evolve into a lycanroc. The biological evolution comes with taking the ecological role.
So if a pokemon isn't evolved, that doesn't mean it's underdeveloped or unhealthy. When you see an evolutionary line like Chikorita, Bayleef, and Meganium, try not to think of the stages as "Baby", "Teenager", "Adult". It's often a lot more like "Baker", "Martial Artist", "Soldier". All three are adults, they just have different jobs and specialties, with different experience with defense and battle. Any questions?

Hi, I live in Sinnoh, and was recently offered the chance to do the gym challenge. Only problem is, I'm in my 20s and have a full time job so I won't be able to enrich a starter by travelling constantly like the kids do lol. Which starter would be my best bet for one that could be happy as both a house pokemon and a fighting one, or would I be better off leaving the starters to get adopted by a more active person, and trying to find a Budew or Bonsly or something more along those lines instead?
to be honest, you kind of have to have a lot of time and ability to give pokemon a lot of physical activity to be able to take on the gym challenge. even if you don't travel on foot, your pokemon are going to get bigger and stronger as you train them- and they're going to need you to have time to dedicate to them. most ex-battling pokemon don't make great pets. unless you're planning on just taking on a couple of gyms for fun, you need to have a plan for your pokemon regardless of which pokemon you get.

MONKEY TIME IS OVER
I've done it!! Shiny Chimchar after 9341 soft resets in Platinum!!
Tumblr media
Fig 1. A screenshot of the application "Shiny Hunt" which is used to track a lot of my ongoing hunts. I've named my gorgeous lil monkey boy after Hanuman from the Hindu epic Ramayan! Long story short, Hanuman is a fire monkey, just like Chimchar.
Tumblr media
Fig 2. My boy finally shows his face, and just look at that fur! I was lucky enough to get a Jolly nature which is one of the two popular natures for Infernape so I'll definitely be EV training my boy once I'm done with the story line!
Tumblr media

Fig 4. The second page of my boy's summary screen!
Right now I'm keeping him unevolved and on my master platnium cart which is with my two homebrewed DSi consoles hunting in Eterna Forest. I dont really have a particular target in mind for my next hunt, hopefully Buneary but I'd be happy with Budew or Gastly too!

Hello! I just came across your post from last year about NeverHappy and was wondering how she is doing in a post SV world? Is she still happy?
well unfortunately paldea doesn't allow the budew line in their borders smh >:/ so sv is the first game neverhappy hasn't been allowed in. but that's okay she was very privileged and was in swsh, bdsp, AND pla, of which she is currently residing
the last thing we did together was catch giratina again so i could bring the giratina into SV and use it to AFK hunt five shiny applins (giratina origin forme is one of the only viable pokemon for that silly afk method as far as i'm aware lol) she has maxed effort levels and stun spore so it made quick work of the process
they are buddies
Tumblr media
anyways yes she is happy :] even though i'm focused on my adventures in violet i still check in on her and have things to do in other games with her

NSR Pokemon Trainers: More Concepts
What if Eve has a Meowth who helps her find shiny things for her art? (Her main battling pokemon might be a Psychic-type; she might also have a Ground-type because she compares herself to earth.)
Nova has all sorts of space pokemon, and hopes to make a groundbreaking discovery about the connection between pokemon and space someday
Elliegator is a Feraligatr - and she can still pilot a helicopter. Zuke claims this is her using Fly.
DK West's main pokemon is Tauros, but he also has a Chatot who loves to shout "Ewah!" almost as much as he does.
What if West also had a Shedinja? It fits with his shadow theme, and with that line from Zuke: "A small push and he'll sure drop loud!"
Maybe Zuke could have the Ninjask?
Yinu has a Budew and a yellow-flower Flabebe. She's too young to go on a journey, but she studies a lot for when she's old enough, and the adults are happy to help her.
May add more later.

Hello, so this is a bit of an odd question but what would you recommend pokemon wise for someone who is in the sinnoh region and horribly allergic to fur and possibly feathers?
It honestly depends on if you want 'em as pets or training 'mons, but there are quite a few that you can easily keep in a home!
Water-Types, such as Shellos and Finneon, are a good option here. Both need a water source, or at least a fairly big water tank to be kept. Shellos are fairly low-maintenance, easy to feed, and have a chill personality; and Finneon need way more care, regular "sunbathing" (yes, even underwater!), but they're considered "prettier" pets to have. That honestly depends on your likes.
The Budew and Burmy lines are also good options, but with flaring allergies, it's possible that you might be susceptible to their pollen in spring too, so be careful 'bout that.
Lastly, this is a personal preference, but Rock and Ground types are almost hypoallergenic (As long as you're fine with dust particles)! There are many you can find just in Sinnoh that are easy to keep, like Graveler, Bronzor and Sudowoodo, so you have lots of options here!

Pokemon Crossbreeds: Rosebud
Rosebud is the name for members of the Lilligant line with Roselia/Roserade fathers. They got their name from the buds of rose petals. The breed is common both in the wild and in captivity, with them being very popular for gardeners.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Petilil
Tumblr media
Rosebud Petilil gained dark eyes and curved bulbs of Budew. While they're still sensitive to dirty water, they can handle it better than purebred Petilil and will only wilt if they drink to much of it. They produce pollen and it can make people sneeze, so be weary if you have any allergies.
There are some legends to them. In other regions, giving a Rosebud Petilil to someone you love on Valentine's Day will give you both everlasting love. While I'm against giving pokemon as gifts when someone isn't prepared for it, the myth is still sweet. It's like the Unovan equivalent of giving an Applin to someone, I guess.
Lilligant
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of the standard Lily, Rosebud Lilligant's flower becomes a rose flower. They gain cloaks thet go to their hecks and their green hair leaves become white. In old Hisui and Galar, rulers would often have these Lilligant roam their gardens. Hisuian Lilligant behave more like Roserade, utilizing both of their dancing-like fighting techniques. There are legends of their Rose petals being able to make love potions. They're also a very popular show breed, and I definetly recommend them for performers who use grass types.

list of pokemon i would eat. u guys like dunmeshi now so u can't judge me for thinking abt eating pocket freaking monsters. or do idc. u can also join in this fun imagination game with me by going to bulbapedia and clicking on any pokemon and looking at the biology and pokedex sections <3
you would think farfetch'd but farfetch'd is endangered from too many people eating it. so i wouldn't. but if it wasn't endangered i would eat it. it comes with its own vegetable for chrissakes c'monnn
paras. its mushrooms have medicinal properties also it's not a crab it's a bug so i can eat it. its body is perfectly proportioned w mushroom n meat. you would think i would choose parasect over paras but i would not. paras is easier to defeat and more abundant too. and parasect is like 90% mushroom. i would kill a parasect if i was really low on veggies i guess. or if i was having a hotpot
shellder. you cook that sucker up and you can pull him out the shell by the tongue mmmmm. i just think it'd be a really fun experience (<- this guy just recently found out he is not allergic to shellfish)
on that note none of the crab pokemon. these are the easy options but i am allergic.
the vanillite evolution chain. i don't care. put syrup and/or chocolate on them due to no flavor tho.
i would not eat a happiny evolution chain egg. they need those. if the pokemon were dead with the egg though then i maybe would. i don't know that feels like a lot of protein. hotpot dish?
froakie evolution chain. i don't care i love frog legs
tropius for the fruits. the body is humongous i would not eat that. holiday feast if it died though
stantler. its tail is huge i imagine it to have the same consistency as a duck's heart but large and sliceable and chewable for longer. and even if it isn't its tail is huge. i am so curious.
slowking. i would use his crown as a soup container like how some people use crab shells for presentation. but it's not presentation bc upside down it is perhaps the most unstable bowl ever. you would need to set it up to stay stable over a fire and you could hotpot it. same goes for slowbro ig. i would not eat them without a lot of veggies and stuff tho.
i would have a pokemon that knows scald btw. make cooking go faster by already having boiled water. that's just a free tip from me for you to be able to never use ever at all.
hoppip and skiploom. living salad . "but wynn isn't every grass type a living salad?" that's dangerous talk. budew evolution line for example would definitely kill you if you ate it without being careful. hoppip is plentiful and seems to spawn/live in groups however.
for that matter i think the more flowery pokemon would make a really pretty and good salad. flabebe's pollen (which makes up its crown) for example has medicinal properties. check if its flower is edible tho. also floette's flower is thought to have terrifying power which sounds dangerous so don't eat that. for that matter don't eat anything further along the flabebe evolution line i think it's too life risky to be worth it. and you can't even eat their flowers. comfey's flower ring (the flower ring is not part of its body). you could eat comfey itself but like... you get a forever flower salad. its vine is canonically highly nutritious and the flowers gain healing effects. you should not eat comfey salad when in caves or other flowerless areas tho bc it gets nervy without a flower ring.
similarly slowpoke tails grow back plus they secrete a sweet sappy substance. so.
fire type pokemon are complicated. sometimes their internal temperature is canonically definitely hot enough to cook it alive so i think you should assume you can't really cook it? is it just forever raw? i assume they CAN be eaten because you can't tell me scovillains don't get snacked on in the wild. but are they edible for humans??? anyway i'd eat a scovillain. only part of it though i'd save most of it cos yum spice. i'd use the whole head or perhaps even both the heads for a hotpot tho. a lot of pokemon are huge and eating them would logically usually be a group endeavor.
tangela. its tentacles are canonically said to have a refreshing flavor and scent and its vines are used as herbs. this probably means that they grow on/around tangela and are not actually part of tangela esp since the vines snap off easily if grabbed so it can run away. would probably go well with comfey flowers.
shuckle produces juices by storing berries (well any organic materials but mostly berries) in its shell and you best believe i am going to have The Blender Turtle on my team. especially if one of my pokemon has the pickup ability??? come on bro
i would not eat a rotom btw but i would have the fridge form rotom for preserving food. "oh wynn what about the one that's a microwave oven?" you don't even need fire type pokemon to start a fire and you want me to have a portable freaking oven when i can have a fridge? a fridge that will never break down? that is somehow both portable and large? would YOU give that up if you were traveling? be so honest. of course if something in the fridge itself gets problems somehow--esp the "special motor" which brings about the change in rotom (rotom can only possess/change specific appliances; the washing machine model that rotom possesses for example has been discontinued and the price has skyrocketed, which is so weird you'd think washing machine companies would start making a rotom compatible washing machine the same way we have electric washing machines? even if folks don't put a rotom in it they can still sell it while also appealing to trainers? idfk), so if that breaks you're definitely paying probably a lot to replace any parts. (<- this guy is normal about household appliances.)
i would eat a legendary any legendary. wynnie don't care.
lotad. it comes with its own vegetable and it gathers around lakes with good quality water so if i see it i know the water there is safe to drink and consume too.
azurill evolution line. the ball on its tail is packed with nutrients as an azurill, and full of oil as a marill and presumably as an azumarill. these will therefore play different roles in cooking but is valuable info nonetheless.
swablu evolution line would be soooooo aesthetic. don't make soup with them tho bc if the wings are in water too long they lose their fluffiness. they'd still be edible they just wouldn't be as aesthetic.
cherubi evolution line. self explanatory. it's freaking berries
applin evolution line. also self explanatory. it's freaking apples. u have to be careful with flapple of course (its cheeks store acid capable of corroding metal) but still.
ok one more. cramorant. esp cramorant gorging form (i am allergic to gulping form)
