Chapter 153: Backstories galore...
IBLIS
She gave us quite the monologue. She talks about her obsession with beauty, perfection and the fear of growing old. Sounds like Hachiro, no? She takes us back in time to a classical Mayan civilization with temples like Chichen Itza.
She uses seduction to kill men, uses humans. For kicks in her human body she eventually conceives a child. What I find interesting, she appears to love the boy. They have good times by the looks of the imagery. But when the child gets old she is forced to kill him. Ibis acts like it doesn't effect her at all, but I don't believe it. Demons blow off their emotions, but maybe she killed him out of empathy for his pain? We honestly don't know the details.
She said he killed him because he was weak but I think it's a lie. I think she's sided with Lucifer to end all humans because she never got over the hurt of loving a human son and losing him. This is her way of avoiding the deep emotional pain of bonding with creatures that do not have an eternal life.
We do know that Iblis also has a fixation on Egyn. The little boy demon the never grows old, that sounds like baggage to me. He's like a surrogate son. Demons fear growing old and being in pain. But they also fear loss, and the loneliness of an eternal life.
It also begs the question, did Iblis have the kid naturally? She doesn't look pregnant in any of the images. The mystery of demon child conception continues...
Demons and Liu are afraid of senior citizens.
Iblis hates Lucy because she's old and wise, she's terrified of people growing old and terrified of the old. Lucy rattles her.
Liu is also rattled by Lucy. We get a flashback of his life and Lucy has been holding the seat of power from his family. They said she stole all the power and magical secrets from their clan, but I doubt that. I bet this was like the Shima family when the demon Yamataka unexpectantly chose Shima....demons have unique preferences of whom they choose to be in a contract with.
When you see the way the Liu clan was run, it's training was based on draconian demon hatred. Sort of the same mentality as young Shiro had. He didn't collaborate with demons and instead sought to destroy every, single one. It's sad really. The only friend Shiro had, and the only reason why Shiro lived into adulthood was because of Mephisto's help. Shiro relied on a demon.
The strongest exorcists get their power and assistance from a collaboration with demons. True intelligence is finding not just violent ways to vanquish the enemy but to see how the enemy ticks. To see if violence isn't always the answer. Demons, like humans are shaped by their experiences and bad experiences warp their worldview. Demons are such powerful creatures that act out their angst. Unfortunately humans tend to be the victims of that retaliation.
When Lucy finally dies (again), she jokes that Liu is too scared to take her place. And he is highly offended by this. Ibis might be afraid of Lucy, but Liu doesn't want to be lumped in with demons.
But he is scared.
Lucy is right.
She also gives him a bit of parting advice.
Even demons have dreams.
They are not as different from humans as we think they are.
This is all the arc knights. Lightning and Lucy openly acknowledge the importance of understanding demons, Angel is still in denial, but it's the truth.
We all know from the manga that collaboration with demons seems to be a better option for a strong exorcist. The strongest exorcists do not see demon relationships as black and white, but more like situationships with a variety of subtexts.
Once Lucy dies, Liu doesn't believe anything she's said and charges into battle to destroy the torch. It looks like he was successful, but we will need to wait until the next chapter to find out. I bet there is a surprise waiting for him that he didn't consider.

Hello there! Anon with the half vampire reader question back!
As far as nsfw/sfw? Let’s go sfw :) (although slightly spicy I don’t mind lol)
Half reader got their vampiric side from their dad. They possess abilities of a vampire but are immune to most things vampires are weakened/hurt by (sun and holy objects) however that doesn’t stop them from still getting hurt. However, it does take a significantly less amount of time healing.
Reader can bite but there’s the catch- they’re way too scared to do so even if they offer. So they tend to rely on sipping on blood bags and will sneak them in during cram class- they just call it her “special diet.” Reader will ABSOLUTELY do this with and silly straws to make it less scary and it keeps anyone else outside from suspecting its real (which started off from rin and shima as a joke but almost immediately became a thing.) Half vampire! Reader is way too gentle to be biting but knows if they want to be at their best she eventually DOES need fresh blood. The itch to bite does come about every so often with pained upper and lower canines but reader doesn’t let it win.
Maybe this reader has been debating about finally accepting their offers but scared to do so?? Feel like they’d really trust amaimon as far as like letting him see all the struggles with being half vampire.
I hope this is okay. Let me know.
Amaimon stares at his older brother, who is going on and on about the rules he’ll need to follow as a student. He’s grasped the basics, but now Mephisto seems to be rambling about trivial and absurd details. When Mephisto begins discussing the lunch break, Amaimon tunes him out completely, occupying himself with various items on Mephisto’s desk. “Big brother, why is there a vampire attending your school?” Amaimon interrupts, picking up a random file and discovering a school photo of a student beaming at the camera. “Is she really a vampire? How do you have a picture of her?” he asks, bringing the photo closer to his face. Mephisto’s brow twitches in irritation. “Are you even listening to me? This is important!”
“I want to know how she’s in the photo, if she’s a vampire.”
“Well, if you read the file, you’d see she’s only half-vampire on her father’s side.”
“Oh. I will read more then.”
“No! You shouldn’t read the files of other students!" Mephisto scolds, snatching the file. “Now, pay attention to me.”
“Okay, Big Brother, but I have a request.”
----------------------------------
CAREFUL, AMAIMON IS IN SCHOOL!!!!!
You blink in surprise at the text from Shima.
Huh???? What is he doing at school?
It’s the only response that comes to mind: is he at school to confront Rin? Why would Mephisto permit him to enter the school grounds? Is he here without Mephisto's knowledge? However, your answer arrives before Shima has the chance to respond as the demon casually walks into your classroom, dressed in a modified version of the uniform. His eyes scan the classroom until they land on you. Without hesitation, he walks towards you and sits in the empty seat beside you, which is only vacant because your classmate hasn’t arrived yet. “Sorry, but that seat is already taken.”
“They can sit somewhere else,” Amaimon states bluntly. Your eyes scan the demon. Was he always this cute? “I’m ______.” You awkwardly introduce yourself, uncertain of Mephisto's plans. However, given that Amaimon is obviously a student in your class, you might as well go ahead and introduce yourself.
“I know.”
“Oh.”
“You smell like blood.”
“Oh. Sorry.” Did Mephisto tell him?
“Why are you sorry?”
You tense, unsure how to react to this demon, so you shake your head. “I don’t know. Sorry for bothering you. But if you need anything, you can ask…I guess.”
He doesn’t acknowledge your offer. Throughout the rest of the class, you remain silent, trying to ignore the strange demon seated beside you. When the bell rings, he finally chooses to grace you with his attention again. “Where is our next class?”
His question takes you by surprise. “Oh, um, we probably don’t have the next class together since students have different schedules. But I guess I could show you where your next class is," you reply, opting to be polite to the demon.
“We have the same schedule. Where is our next class.” He orders.
You don’t want to upset him, so you gently explain, “In high school, students don’t follow the same schedules. But don’t worry; I’m happy to show you where your next class is. I can also show you—”
“I’m not an idiot. We have the same schedule,” Amaimon says, lifting a piece of paper toward your face. It’s his schedule, complete with his name at the top for proof. “Uh, was that intentional?” Does Mephisto expect you to keep an eye on him or something? But why didn’t he just tell you?
“Yes. I told Big Brother I wanted to be in your classes.”
Confusion washes over you at his answer. How does he even know who you are? He didn't really see you that night when he attacked Rin. So, how does he know you now? “Why did you want the same schedule as me? I didn’t realize you knew I existed.”
“Because you’re half vampire, so I wanted to learn more. Vampires are weak, right?” He casually insults half of you. Your jaw drops. “Even with their power, they can’t walk in the sunlight; they need human blood to survive, are you-“
“Actually, we can survive on demon blood too.” You cut in, annoyance washing over you.
And that’s how you ended up shooting yourself in the foot. Amaimon is intrigued by your ability to drink demon blood, and you’ll soon come to find his blood is the most tempting thing you’ve ever come across.
The first thing he does is shove his wrist in your face. “Really? Bite me.”
“I don’t bite people," you say, quickly shoving your books into your bag before leaving the classroom. However, Amaimon is hot on your heels since you share the same schedule.
“What kind of vampire doesn’t bite people?” He questions, earning a few odd looks from people around you. But you ignore him, walking faster to the class, which doesn’t help because Amaimon is just as fast as you. “_____, answer me. I don’t like being ignored.” Annoyance starts to slip in his tone. Worried about him lashing out, you quickly give an answer. “I’m just not comfortable with it.” You admit. Obviously, he has more he wants to say, but oddly, he keeps it to himself.
He remains quiet for the rest of your classes, but that changes at lunch. He follows you from the classroom, and you point in the direction he needs to go. "The lunchroom is just that way; walk straight until you exit this building, and it’ll be the building right across from you.”
“Are you coming?” He questions, staring at you expectedly.
“No, I eat lunch with my friends. So, I’ll see you after lunch.” It’s strange; he just lets you go; you half expected him to either drag you to lunch with him or insist on following you. But you feel relieved that he doesn’t push the matter.
You’re too naive.
Your friend group kindly sits in a secluded area; once they learned of your half-vampire nature and that you typically have a bag of blood during your lunch break, they insisted on joining you. “Check out this straw!” Shima beams, holding up a heart-shaped straw adorned with one of your favorite anime characters. “I saw it yesterday and just had to get it for you.” He offers you the straw before you can even reach for your own. “I love it!” you exclaim, accepting it and placing it in the blood bag. Drinking blood from a bag simply makes everything easier, although your dad scoffs at the idea. He has been encouraging you to get more comfortable biting others, especially since you have willing donors! Like Shima, but you just can’t do it. Fortunately, your mother is supportive and doesn’t pressure you. She has reassured you multiple times that it’s okay and that you shouldn’t worry. But she has been your father’s blood donor since they met over twenty years ago, and before that, your father had human friends who were kind enough to be donors. So, your father doesn’t understand why you won’t bite anyone.
“So, you’re hiding from the other students to drink blood from a bag?” You freeze as you hear the monotone voice behind you. Rin acts first, standing up and growling. “Stay away, Amaimon!” he warns, his voice low and fierce. Amaimon completely ignores Rin as he steps around to face you. He snatches the bag from your hands and brings the straw to his mouth; he takes a sip, and a look of disgust crosses his face. “Does this really quench your thirst? It’s not even warm.” He looks down at the bag with a frown. “Wouldn’t you rather have fresh, warm blood? Don't your friends offer you their blood? You mentioned that you can drink demon blood. I’ll treat you better than your friends do," he says, lifting one of his claws to his right wrist, “Here.” As he drags the claw along his wrist, blood starts to seep out of the wound.
Your eyes widen as the scent of his blood envelops you, causing your pupils to dilate. Why does it smell like that? It’s an unfamiliar aroma, a peculiar blend of sweetness and earthiness that washes over you. Your mouth starts to water; you want to try it. Bon is the first to notice your reaction and quickly shakes your shoulders. “Snap out of it.” You blink a few times, and your face flushes. “Oh!” Quickly, you cover your face, attempting to block out the smell. “I don’t want to bite people! I told you.”
“You don’t have to bite me; I’ve already made the wound; you can just suck the blood.”
His words don’t help; embarrassment washes over you at the idea of sucking his blood. “No, no. I’m okay with the blood in the bag.” You insist.
Amaimon being a powerful demon, his wound heals instantly; all that’s left is blood on his wrist from the closed wound; he shrugs and licks his own blood from his wrist. “I don’t understand you. You want to bite me, but you won’t do it.”
“She doesn’t want to bite you, you creep!” Rin cuts in.
Still, the king doesn’t let it go. “Oh, I know.” He raises his hands, loosens his tie, and undoes the top two buttons of his uniform shirt to reveal his throat, tugging the fabric down slightly. “Here.” Your eyes lock onto his throat; you can see his pulse; it’s tempting. Extremely tempting.
“No thanks.”
“Why?”
"I, uh—" You pull out your phone, frowning. "Oh, my dad is calling. I have to take this. Bye."
As you awkwardly step away, you press the phone to your ear. “Hey Dad, is something wrong?” You talk to a locked screen as you hurry away, using the fake phone call to escape.
------------------------------------
“Big Brother, if she is a vampire, why won’t she bite anyone?”
Mephisto lifts his head from the documents he had been working on, looking at Amaimon with confusion. He had expected Amaimon to come into his office during lunch, ready to complain about school and how boring the classes were, not to question him about the young vampire. “What?”
“I found her during lunch; she was drinking blood from a bag. I was curious, so I took it from her and tried it; it was awful. So, I offered my own blood instead.” Amaimon frowns. “She refused.” Mephisto watches, and Amaimon seems to think it over for a moment. “Is it because of her human friends?”
Mephisto finds it strange that Amaimon has taken an interest in ______, and the fact she doesn’t bite. However, given Amaimon's generally peculiar nature, he decides not to question this newfound fascination. “Well, it doesn’t involve her friends. As far as I know, they’ve offered their blood, but she refuses. She feels a bit uneasy about the idea of biting others. Even her father has grown increasingly frustrated with this, especially since she’s training to be an exorcist. To reach her full potential, she requires fresh blood.”
“She fights?”
“Yes, but like I said, she hasn’t reached- where are you going?”
“I’ve never fought a vampire; I’m going to make her drink my blood so we can have some fun. Bye.”
The King of Time gives it a moment of thought about whether or not he should stop Amaimon. “As long as you don’t harm her or traumatize her into never biting again. Have fun.”
Amaimon appears next to you after lunch, his gaze fixed on you throughout the class, the following class, and even the one after that. He doesn’t say much; instead, he observes you closely as if trying to comprehend you. When the final bell rings, you let out a sigh of relief, finally able to escape his intense gaze.
As you step out of the classroom, you let relief wash over you, but it’s too soon—Amaimon quickly latches onto your wrist. “Come with me.” It’s a demand, and you find yourself weighing whether to comply. “Where to?”
“Home.”
“I’ve got classes this afternoon…”
“I don’t care. You’re coming with me.”
“Are you going to hurt me?”
“Not if you listen to me.”
Your mind races; you can’t just accept his words. “Could you call Mephisto first?” You glance down at your wrist and try to pull away from him, but he only tightens his grip. “Why do you want me to call Big Brother?”
“…just to be safe. I don’t really know you, and I’d be comfortable.”
With his free hand, Amaimon pulls his phone from his pocket, quickly unlocking it to call his brother. “Big Brother, I’m taking _____ home.” He stares blankly at you as he listens to whatever Mephisto is telling him. “Tell Big Brother you want to come with me.” He passes the phone to your free hand.
Are all the demon kings weird? You sigh. “Sir Pheles.”
“Miss ______, please forgive Amaimon. But he’d like to invite you for dinner tonight. I know you have cram school, but I’ll let them know you’ll take the day off.” At what point did Amaimon say he wants to invite me to dinner? You raise a brow. “Okay, I guess that’s okay.”
You are forced decide to skip class, following Amaimon as he retrieves a key from his pocket, leading you to believe the door will open to Mephisto’s home. As the door swings open, you enter a nice living room featuring a comfortable sofa, a large-screen TV, and a massive window providing a stunning view of the city. He doesn’t drop your wrist until the door is shut behind you like he’s worried you might try to run away at the last minute.
“Why don’t you bite people?” He calmly questions you as he approaches the TV and drops to his knees. You quickly realize it’s a game system. Once it’s set up, he sits on the sofa, staring at you expectantly while holding a controller up for you.
“Wasting no time, huh?” Awkwardly, you walk around the sofa to sit beside him and accept the controller. “I don’t know, I just don’t like it.”
“Have you bitten someone before?”
“I have and-“ You stop; it’s an awkward conversation to have with someone you barely know.
“And?” He presses, while selecting a character in the game. “Who was it?”
“…my mom, and it was weird; I didn’t like it.” You admit while selecting a character. “I don’t want to bite my friends.”
“Why?”
“I just don’t.” You frown, your eyes glued to the TV screen as Amaimon excels at the game. Your character is almost dead, and you’re unsure how it happened. They were fine just moments ago, and now they’re on the brink of defeat.
“You’re a bad liar.” He replies, placing the final blow on your character. “Tell me the truth.”
“I don’t want to hurt my friends.” You sigh, “I might accidentally take too much blood, and I don’t want to live in constant paranoia every time I drink fresh blood. It took my dad centuries to gain full control over himself." You admit, honestly.
“That’s it?”
“What do you mean ‘that’s it’? What are you doing?” Amaimon removes his tie, tossing it aside as he shrugs off his blazer. “I’m a demon,” he replies, unbuttoning the top few buttons of his shirt. “I’m a demon king. I can lose more blood than humans, and I’m more powerful than you.” He tugs at the collar of his shirt again. “If you drink too much, I’ll stop you.” He stares blankly at you as he speaks. “So go ahead. You said you can drink demon blood, right?”
“I-I can’t!”
Amaimon dismisses your protest with indifference, dragging his claw across his throat and creating an open wound. The scent of his blood washes over you once again as it trickles down his neck. He watches you carefully, and when he realizes you’re not going to move, he covers his knuckle in his blood and brings it to your lips. “Here, taste it.” He doesn’t give you time to refuse; his knuckle slips past your lips, forcing you to taste his blood. He observes with keen interest as your pupils dilate; it feels like fire is beginning to fill your veins, and the scent of him washes over you. Amaimon tilts his head, his hand finding the back of your neck, gently pulling you closer until your lips meet the warm skin of his throat. “Go ahead,” he urges, loosening his grip but not completely releasing you.
Fear of losing control, of hurting someone, still lingers at the back of your mind. "I don't want to hurt you," you whisper quietly.
Amaimon bluntly responds. “Someone as weak as you currently are, can’t hurt me.”
Taking a deep breath, you give a slight nod before parting your lips and timidly biting down on his neck. The peculiar taste of earth mingled with an underlying sweetness fills your mouth as Amaimon emits a grunt.
You attempt to pull away after just a few seconds, but he holds you down firmly, encouraging you to take more. His other hand leisurely traced circles on your back, as if to soothe the tension within you.
"Drink until you've had your fill," his tone is emotionless.
The initial fear and apprehension gradually transformed into an unexpected sense of calm and contentment. You drank until the heat that surged through your veins settled into a manageable simmer.
It takes him a moment to realize that you had stopped feeding, your body now lax against his. “Are you done?" He asked, not moving an inch as he figured it would be best to let you recover at your own pace. His throat had already begun to heal itself.
Finally mustering the strength to sit up straight, you meet his gaze, which is filled with an inexplicable curiosity. He stares at you for a few moments before leaning in and pressing his warm lips firmly against yours. But before you can react, he pulls away, his eyes slightly widen in surprise, but that’s the only change in his features. "W-why did you kiss me?” you whisper, frozen in your seat.
“I don’t know,” he shrugs, and you wait for him to either kick you out or pretend nothing happened at all. However, the demon king continues to surprise; instead of what you expect, he reaches for the back of your neck and pulls you into another kiss. This kiss lingers longer, and he softly runs his tongue along your bottom lip, collecting the leftover blood. When he finally pulls away, he answers the question you hadn’t even had the chance to ask: “Because I wanted to this time.”
Mephisto smirks as he steps back from the cracked door. “I suppose I should have mentioned the varying effects that a vampire bite can have on demons. Perhaps her father won’t be too angry. After all, Amaimon will make the perfect donor for her.”

Idk I thought this idea might be cute:
Rin, Shima and any of the other cram school kids: their crush falls asleep on their shoulder while studying 🥺
🩵😺
Hello!
Thank you for requesting ad forgive for the delay! Ihave been extremily busy at work :c
Anyway! I hope you enjoy what i have to offer, please let me know what you think!
Tsuki's note: Reader is a exorcist here. Also i picked Ryuji. For Shima's i will let you run wild with whatever shennanigans you may think they went through.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rin
You often helped Rin study.
It didn't even need to be close to exam week for you to be with him, studying.
The boy was trying his best!
Doing his homework with you and stuff.
Today you were helping him with some extra work Yukio gave him - according to his little brother, Rin's grade were too bad and he needed extra lessons to fixate the subject.
you had explained it to him a couple of times and was just watching him do the quizzes.
You were exhausted. You had recently come back from a mission, but you insisted on helped Rin.
Yukio only gave two days to finish the regular work + extra, so...
You were peaking over his shoulder to take a look at his answers.
At time you would make him questions to confuse him on purpose - If he truly learned, then he would be able to correct you or question you.
Which he did fairly ok.
As he went on getting the quiz right you started to feel your heavy.
It didn't help he was really warm - like a fuzzy blanket.
You also felt safe, much so people dismay.
You soon fell asleep.
Rin notice your lack of replies as he asked you a question.
He turned his head to see you leaning on his shoulder.
Your cheek were pressed against the side of his arm and you were snoring lightly.
Rin chuckled to himself calling you a silly person for coming to help him even though you were so tired.
He also felt his face burn and reach 5 shades of red. But his stare at you was very kind and loving.
He thought a little bit what he should do - stay still or carry you to his bed?
He finally made his mind that allowing you to rest on his bed would be the best for your back and neck.
Rin gently lifted you on his arms and placed you as carefully as he could on his bed.
You showed signs of being kind of awake, but Rin soon soothed you while covering you with a blanket.
The boy admired you for a moment there then, in jolted , decided to try hard at his work for your sake!
By the time you woke up, Rin was fast asleep on his table, but all of his assignment were done. A bit wet from his drooling but done.
Your turn to place a blanket around him.
And so you went with Kuro to fetch something for you three to eat.
Shima ( Renzo)
You were helping him study to catch up on a pushiment that Yukio gave him - to a write a massive essay about a very rare and specific demon.
The boy could be a massive coward at times and have a terrible grade.
Other times he was oddly brave and clever, go figure.
Renzo was whinnying the whole time about how unfair this was - he wasn't the only involved in the incident, the other boys were there too!
You sighed and hit his head with rolled paper sheet - no use complaining now, what is done, is done.
You were helping read the books to gather info on this demon, but his attention wasn't that great, he often flirted with you.
He eventually complained you were being too cold with him by just giving the books some attention.
So you decided to sit next to him - shoulder touching shoulder.
This made him blush a bit and get his ears red.
The boy still played it cool, kinda of.
Being this close you pointed out things for him to take note about the demon.
It was a lengthy and tiring process.
Finally he had all the notes, just had to write in an essay shape!
While he was at it, Renzo would sometimes chitchat about something with you.
You were leaning your head on the palm of your hand and soon enough your eyes got heavy.
You ended up dozing off and your head slightly leaning on the boy's shoulder.
The sudden tough made him call for you.
No answer. No called again and looking to his side, only find you gently leaning on his shoulder sleeping.
Renzo laughed to himself, he thought you were so so cute for dozing off like that.
He tried to stay still to best of his powers!
Often times he would think about grabbing our other hand - it was in sight and not far.
Just imagining how nice it would be if he could actually hold your hand....
These thoughts made his ears go red and silly appear on his face.
He allowed you to stay there until you woke up.
By the time you did he, once more, tried a picked up line along of " i didn't know you felt THAT safe, maybe i am your knight in shinning armour"
Which you replied by going red, slapping his head and walking away.
Completely worth it, on his eyes. Your cute blushing face was the high point of the day.
Ryuji
Neither of you needed that much help studying.
You met Ryuji in the school's yard.
He said he had to study "in peace" which probably meant he wanted to be alone or away from Rin and Renzo.
You offered to make him some company!
He reluctantly agreed, to your surprise - as long as you stay quiet, that is.
You decided to read a book while he studied on the yard.
At first you were seated next to each other, but then with time you ended up leaning on his shoulder.
Ryuji was surprised by feeling you lean on his him so suddenly, to the point of complaining about it.
You giggled and explained your reasoning.
As a response you got a sigh from him and a red ear, even though you couldn't see it.
The shade of the trees and the breeze made you fall asleep.
At one point Ryuji called out to you, he wanted to stretch a bit.
You didn't reply.
He called again and look at you, only to find you slightly snoring sleeping.
He sighed again and just watched you for a moment.
His face heating up.
The boy finally decided to let you be.
His arm was tingling, but you looked awfully peaceful.
It took him a while to go back to studying - you were so distracting.
When you woke up, Ryuji teased you without taking his eyes out of the book - " hey, you up sleeping beauty?"
the reason why his eyes didn't raise from the book is because his face would burn at the sight of you.

a/n. i don't know what was in the air this morning, but i was suddenly struck with the courage to try my hand at writing shimamitsu. i was planning to start after my third read-through (i know. it's bad) but i figured why the hell not now? we learn as we go, anyway. so here's my first attempt at writing these wonderful two. i sincerely hope you enjoy! (1.5k)
c.w. some mild manga spoilers. timeskip to 3rd year during entrance exams review season.
link. read on ao3
Somehow, he’s ended up on Iwakura Mitsumi’s front porch.
Well, not somehow—he knows for a matter of fact what led him here. If it weren’t for Murashige’s initial suggestion over text two weeks ago, or even Kurume’s follow-up a few days after that, then it’s because of Egashira’s not-so-subtle request (or demand—he’s not so sure at this point; tone is difficult to read over chat) backed by a strangely convenient albeit still believable excuse of not being allowed to meet up with friends during entrance exams season that landed him—currently—in this exact spot.
Why she—or they, really—thinks he’s permitted to go out is beyond him, although something tells him they’re starting to catch onto his unusual family…arrangements, and have taken it upon themselves to decide that he’s quite definitely the man for the job.
That, or he’s completely misread his best female friend.
Sousuke shifts his weight onto his other foot, careful not to fumble the moderately-sized box in his palms. Now was not the time to mentally sift through every interaction he’s had with the ebony-haired girl, let alone scrutinize each exchange in search of something he’s unknowingly been looking for ever since he got handed that tiny yet deceivingly formidable crab back in the seemingly borderless beaches of Ishikawa.
No, he’s got a job to do. And he better do it quickly, lest the day come to an abrupt end, and all of this coordination be all for naught.
Suddenly emboldened by the apparent weight of the task at hand—and the pressing responsibility that was thrust upon him by three, oddly cryptic girls—Sousuke raises his fist and raps it against the door.
Once, twice, and then a third time for good measure.
Almost immediately, the sound of footsteps pattering on the floor resounds from the other side, and upon hearing it, Sousuke—despite himself—tenses.
This is it, he thinks to himself.
Jesus. He should’ve prepared what to say, or mentally written down a decent-enough, acceptable opening line, at the very least.
But now, as he stands frozen in front of Mitsumi’s nondescript doorway, Sousuke finds himself blanking, although it’s immediately filled with stunned confusion when the slab of wood swings open, and what greets him is not Mitsumi, but her—
“Shimasuke?”
Sousuke blinks for a beat, before his features morph into a look of belated realization. Right. In all his overthinking about how the entire situation would play out and how to best go about it, he completely forgot she still lived with her aunt.
“H-hello, Nao-san,” he starts with a light-hearted albeit still somewhat sheepish chuckle, careful not to draw attention to the object in his hands.
Although, in hindsight, he doesn’t think he had to worry about that, because the woman only stares straight into him—gaping—the sheet mask that was probably once firmly planted on her face peeling at the top edges.
“S-shima-kun,” she eventually manages to get out a second later, right when the initial shock of seeing him on her doorstep at 8 PM on a Saturday finally dissipates. “What brings you here?”
And before he can answer that: “Do your parents know you're out and about?”
“Uh—yes,” he answers, rubbing the back of his neck, and for the first time in so long and in response to that question, he’s actually telling the truth. “I told my mom I needed to drop something off for a friend.”
“Oh, right. You’re here for Mitsumi?”
As if right on cue, Mitsumi’s voice echoes from what he believes is their kitchen. “Nao-chan! Who is it?”
“It’s Shimasuke,” Nao hollers towards her niece, flinching when a sudden clank resounds up to the doorway, almost as if something heavy fell to the floor.
“What the—” the older woman mutters to herself, glancing behind her, before looking back at Sousuke with a sorry expression. “Wait here a second, okay?”
Sousuke can only watch in awkward silence as Nao all but rushes and disappears to where Mitsumi must be standing, trying but failing to stop from eavesdropping as murmured whispers are exchanged within the apartment unit, although he doesn’t manage to pick anything up aside from a frantic ‘what?!’ followed by a ferocious ‘shhh.’
The quiet discussion goes on for what feels like a few minutes—long enough for Sousuke to start to think that the two may have forgotten that he’s in front of their house—when the tell-tale pitter-patter of footsteps surfaces again, only this time it’s not the pajama-clad image of Nao that greets him in the foyer.
Instead, it’s a pajama-clad Mitsumi, whose face is unnaturally moist as if she just removed a sheet mask from her flesh herself, her soft, youthful features contorted in a look of disbelief.
Despite himself, and the fact that he’s not exactly the vulnerable one in this scenario, Sousuke flames.
“Shima-kun,” Mitsumi voices, tone just as unbelieving as her countenance, slowly walking up to the doorframe. “What are you doing here?”
“I-I have a delivery for one Iwakura Mitsumi,” Sousuke gestures to the box hefted on his hip, keeping his head bowed down just as he finishes the line.
Fuck, that was cringy.
Mitsumi, though, apparently doesn’t mind, focus trained entirely on something else. “What?” she laughs—a painfully uncertain one that betrays more of her bemusement than amusement. “What are you talking about?”
“I–uh—” Sousuke stammers for a beat, before finally forcing himself to meet her gaze.
The instant he does, though, he suddenly wishes he didn’t.
“Shima-kun?”
“Oh, r-right,” he quickly says, averting his eyes just as quickly as he laid them on her. He thrusts the box towards Mitsumi instead. “The–uh—girls wanted me to give you this.”
“Eh?” Mitsumi squeaks out in surprise, although still making a move to accept the package.
“What is it?” she asks when Sousuke doesn’t say anything for a moment, curiously eyeing the container.
“Open it,” Sousuke finds himself enjoining, to which Mitsumi nods—still quite tentatively but now seeming a bit more excited.
Her excitement only grows exponentially and peaks with an audible gasp when she flings the flap of the box open, revealing a whole off-white cake lined with scrumptious-looking strawberries, intricately decorated with cursive lettering.
Mitsumi gawks at the dessert for what feels like a brief eternity, before finally whipping up to look at the boy, mouth formed into a pout and tears now pooling in the corners of her eyes, much to Sousuke’s surprise.
The tall blonde falters.
This was not part of the plan.
“A-are you not happy?” Sousuke can’t help but ask, frowning as he eyes the short-haired girl cautiously. “They really wanted to come, but they—”
“N-no—it’s not that,” Mitsumi cuts him off, shaking her head with a wobbly smile. At the sight of her upturned, albeit shaky lips, Sousuke couldn’t stop himself from deflating in relief.
He waits for her to continue.
“It’s just—” Mitsumi pauses, gazing wistfully down onto the cake, and in that moment, Sousuke wishes he had the magical powers to take pictures with his eyes. He burns the image into his memory instead.
“It’s just,” the girl tries again, “Prepping for the exams has been hard, and just—I really didn’t expect this.”
That makes Sousuke frown. “That your friends buy you a birthday cake?”
Mitsumi shakes her head. “No. I mean—not that I was expecting a cake—”
Sousuke bites back a laugh. Mitsumi wavers, a chuckle bubbling from her throat, before continuing.
“—I just didn’t expect anything today,” she finally finishes, a shy smile on her face. “I thought we were gonna celebrate after exams.”
“And we will,” Sousuke reassures her.
You, out of all people, deserve to be celebrated, says the little voice in his head.
He doesn’t say any of that out loud, though, opting to bite his tongue instead, just as Mitsumi beams at him, and for a second, he wonders what he’s done to deserve the luxury of sunlight even as he stands—unworthy—under the night sky looming unpertrubed above him.
Sunlight that he’d die to experience every day—no, every minute—if he was just a better person.
“Shima-kun?”
Sousuke straightens up, startled.
At that, Mitsumi laughs, a delightful sound that—embarrassingly enough—immediately soothes him.
“I was just gonna say,” Mitsumi adds on, the bright grin from earlier now having been replaced with a bashful expression. “I-It’s good to see you.”
And when he only blinks at her, face flushed: “I mean—on my birthday. We, of course, see each other a lot for review and all, and—uh—”
Mitsumi trails off with a stilted snicker, gaze downcast.
Although, if Sousuke didn’t know any better, he’d think she’s blushing.
Blushing. Mitsumi. Mitsumi’s blushing.
…because of him?
He doesn’t know exactly why now of all times, but it’s in that exact moment, with a red-faced Mitsumi decidedly looking anywhere but at him, that Sousuke finally allows himself a modicum of hope he’s never given himself since that biting realization in Ishikawa.
Hope that—maybe—he has completely misread his best female friend.

Why is primis richtofen such a dick to Samantha? He’s nowhere near as bad as Ultimis, but telling this 10 year old you want to leave her trapped in Agartha for all eternity is still kind of harsh. I get she (accidentally) drove Primis Maxis insane but still 😭😭😭 Cmon man
💫 Hello, hello!! Aaaa!! Thank you for your question, though, you did partly answer it yourself ;;; But, let’s get into it!!✨
💫 The line that you’re referring to is said in Origins, and to understand why he lashed out so harshly at a child, we first need to understand his mental state at the beginning of Origins. To do this, let’s recap the events before the accident!
“Were it up to me, I would leave you in Agartha for eternity, Samantha!” - Primis Richtofen, Origins.
💫 So, during the dig in Northern France, the zombie hoard was awoken and unleashed. Richtofen blames himself for this, we can see this in a voice line he has where he claims it as an accident, but still takes soul responsibility.
“Did I do something? I mean, apart from accidentally unleashing the zombie hoard.” - Primis Richtofen, Origins.
✨ He also lost Maxis, but it’s more than just that. Richtofen was an orphaned child, and when he was under Maxis’ tutelage, they formed a found family bond. That man is a father figure to him, and someone he cares deeply about. He follows what Maxis says blindly throughout the story because he trusts him so heavily. Their bond is near unbreakable.
✨ As you said, Samantha drove Maxis insane, a voice in his head that wouldn’t go away. While it was never intentional, what we need to remember is that Richtofen was watching Maxis go down that road of insanity. He was helpless to do nothing but watch as his father figure’s mind was spiralling out from under him.
✨ Richtofen lost Maxis, we know this, but I’d argue he actually lost him twice. Once when Maxis was in the grip of insanity with Samantha’s voice in his head, and once again when Richtofen had to lobotomise him. We can see through how he talks to Samantha that he is angry, grieving and also confused- He doesn’t know what’s happening yet. He doesn’t know the origins of the chalk drawings, he doesn’t believe Agartha exists until later on in the Origins map. He blames Samantha for everything that’s happening, and given that he has a line taking accountability for the hoard, I think the heavy blame that he shoves onto Samantha is projection and grief. He has no one else to blame aside from the one little voice that drove his father figure insane and he has no understanding of the logic defying state of what’s around him. In grief, anger and confusion, we’re all prone to saying things we don’t actually mean.
“They’re appearing all around us! ARE YOU BEHIND THIS, SAMANTHA?!” - Primis Richtofen, Origins.
“Make sure you tell Samantha that we are going to win!” - Primis Richtofen, Origins.
“You’re toying with me aren’t you, Samantha?” - Primis Richtofen, Origins.
✨ When we get to The Giant, he doesn’t accuse Samantha of causing anything. When he mentions her, his tone comes off as more inquisitive and light, sometimes even playful. If he truly meant what he said about leaving her trapped, he’d still show aggression. He might also have a crisis about what to do since helping Maxis helps Samantha in turn, but he doesn’t. When mentioning the children in the house, he doesn’t exclude Samantha from that either.
“Did you put these chalk drawing here, Samantha?” - Primis Richtofen, The Giant. (Said with less aggression than his attitude towards her in Origins.)
“Maxis, Samantha, Eddie. They are safe…” - Primis Richtofen, Zetsubo No Shima
✨ In short, I believe that line was born from grief, anger, confusion, and wasn’t actually meant at all. Now, does all of this excuse blowing up at a child? No, not really. But, I also don’t think it’s fair to hold that against him- Not saying that you are!! I’m just speaking generally.
💫 I’m always down to yap about Primis Richtofen, so thank you for the ask!! I hope I was able to give you a fresh perspective on the matter! ✨

I know that Rin thinks the exwires hate him after his secret is revealed, but how do they actually feel? Obviously they have to care somewhat if they didn’t tell anyone about him (other than Yukio telling Shiro…who’s the paladin…which has to count for snitching)(luckily Shiro already knows about Rins existence and won’t do anything about it).
Good question!
I feel like they would have very mixed feelings, because they really don't have a clear picture as to what's going on with Rin. Is he being possessed? Does he know about it (his disappearance would suggest that he would)? Did he let the demon into his body, and if so, why? Or is he himself the demon? Has he been lying to them this whole time? But surely Mephisto would have known that, right?
and then there's the fact that Rinka's motivations are just a giant question mark. He clearly has some kind of connection to Satan, but it's growing increasingly obviously that this isn't a possession situation and that he's his own independent demon- which raises the question of who and what he is, and where he came from. He's definitely tangled with the Order more than once, but he also came to their aid in Kyoto with no strings attached.
because of all that, at the end of the day they just... decide to wait and see, for the most part. they want answers, but with Rin gone, they're not going to get them. Ryuuji and Konekomaru both decide that they're going to believe in Rin- while Shima gets instructions from Mephisto to keep his mouth shut (and it's more fun if this situation is left ambiguous).
...which leaves Izumo. who just takes it as another betrayal- but what obligation does she have to tell the order? none. so she just keeps her mouth shut. it wasn't like she was even close to rin in the first place, so what does it matter if he's secretly satan's kin or whatever?
#asks#notice how I did not mention shiemi. this is because she's not an exwire. :)#or: shiemi never left amahara. Jeremiah used a subtler method to get rid of her father and grandmother#she's still training to be the saio#something something the masked saio crossing paths with the masked demon#but sometimes she slips out of amahara in secret using a key mephisto gave her#and on a few occasions. she ends up meeting rin. :)#(also I don't think Shiro is the paladin in this universe either.)#there's still things i'm hammering out about this verse as you can clearly tell#masquerade au

Do you have pairings you like in Blue Exorcist ?
Hey Anon ! Yeah, sure, Kato-sensei writes crush and blossoming romance well !
Obviously, Rin x Shiemi is a given for me right now, but I strongly enjoy the fact that it wasn't always the case and that I used to like Yukio x Shiemi more at first (because that's how the narrative seemed written) ! For more details, please read this post. :)
Anyway, I love the back and forth between them, I love that she's the one who's hesitating because of her own circumstances rather than the more typical Shonen case of "he didn't notice her until the end". You know, because women can have romantic feelings for a guy but other pressing things to also deal with in life.

The fact Izumo-chan knows her secret and tries to encourage her is also a great part of it and I'm glad Shiemi has a girl friend who can help her with this (not just recently, but ever since Rin asked her to go out with him). :D
Meanwhile, Rin is being a pretty respectful guy about it and we stan him for that ! He wasn't pissed about being rejected nor did he insist, he's a good kid. Anyway, they're endgame for sure, I have 0 doubt !
Shiro x Yuri, who loved each other despite death parting them, is also beautiful writing, even more so considering Yuri is written as a survivor of domestic abuse. Maybe there's an alternate reality that Mephisto knows in which they managed to grow old together. :) One can hope.

If it weren't for the current age difference, I'd be a more avid supporter of Yukio x Shura, for reasons presented here. I think they're a pair who makes a lot of sense, narratively speaking, especially since the Aomori arc. But hey, since Shiemi somehow managed to grow 2 years in an alternate reality (see ch144) and with Satan warping time & space, who knows, it may still happen one day !
Otherwise, Yukio losing his composure and shooting the King of Lust creep in the face to help Shura, despite urging Rin to leave her fight alone the whole time, was simply hilarious.
Lastly, I have a big fondness for Juuzou x Mamushi ! Even though, it more or less came out of nowhere during the Impure King arc, it still made a lot of sense. x) Mostly, I love how we got to witness their wedding and how happy they currently are.
Toudou ruined a lot in the series, but I'm happy Mamushi survived his schemes and still had a place to call home. :)

Other than that, I sometimes wonder about Shima x Izumo and Suguro x Izumo, but without any certainty.
For the former, I don't know how serious Shima's crush on her is and Izumo simply isn't too trusting of him. And besides, I think Renzou has a lot of other personal realizations to reach first, about his family and about Myo Dha, so romance will simply have to wait.
For the latter, I enjoy their bickering and they have a few scenes here and there that I think give off shipping vibes, but they do not seem to be a primary romantic focus of Sensei either. So we'll see. :)
I hope it answers your question ! Have a good day, Anon !

A Long Day
Masterlist

After Mephisto drops you off at the place you're staying with, Rin automatically comes outside rushing towards you.
"Where were you?! I was worried you didn't even answer your phone!" He exclaimed, you chuckled.
"Sorry, i was out... looking at my childhood home," you said. He nodded, understanding. You were tried after staying up late all night, either finding something related to your parents or anything helpful.
"Do you wanna take a nap?" You nodded at his words. He walked beside you as you both went to your room. Along came Kuro cuddling right next to you.
You look at Rin one last time before closing your eyes, drifting off to sleep.
Rin looked at your, making sure there wasn't any bad happening while you were sleeping. "I care, I hope you know," he mumbled before he closed his eyes as well.

"Geez, what's taking so long?" Bon said, sitting on the ground, looking left to right to see if you guys had come.
"It's been an hour now, maybe they forgot," Shima thought out loud, worried they might have actually forgotten.
Everyone groan, Yukio on the other hand, knew either Shura was dead drunk asleep to even care, or she actually did forget.
He kept calling Shura, Rin, or you. There is nothing on the other line. He groans in frustration, clicking for a different contact.
"Hello, Hello!" Hearind Sir.Mephisto on the other line.
"Sir, can you send me the address of where we're staying?" Yukio tried to say it in the most calmest way he could.
"Oh, they forgot? Okie dokie!" He hung up. Yukio stared at his phone until a notification popped up from Sir.Mephisto.
'Sent a bus to pick you guys up! (^з^)-☆'
Yukio sighs, "A bus should be on its way" he said to the group of students waiting.
"Finally! It's so hot here compared to Korea, " Izumo complained, as used a paper to fan herself.

Satoru and Suguru stand there at the front entrance of an abandoned building. "They said to do it right away" Suguru said, Satoru rolled his eyes as he walked at the entrance.
It was normal evil sprit, it wasn't like last time. "Hey, so about Y/n" Satoru turn to glance at his best friend.
"Yea what about her?" He hummed at they both went inside the building.
"What did her mom do?" Gojo looked at him and shrugged.
"My parents always told me she was a smart person, she study a bunch of religions...but she was Christian but didn't push Y/n father or Y/n to become that way" Saturo said, they walked in the empty building.
Left over desk, chairs and shoes. "Really?" Is all Geto said, before he went into his own mind.
"So she isn't from here or?" Satoru shook his head. "She from Korea, but moved here for a new beginning supposedly." Gojo didn't question it. He always did enjoy talking about you when you were both kids.
Just wouldn't say it to yourself or show it. He always was proud to be your best friend then. "I meet Y/n when we're 1 well, I was older buy four months" he said.
All Geto could do was listening, but deep down he knew Korea where your mother was from. Was she an exorcists just like you?
"Hello? Suguru? You okay man?" He snapped out of his thoughts turning his attention to his best friend.
"Sorry, I'm just thinking" he sigh, Satoru chuckled patting him in the back before running off.
"The curse is right over here!" Suguru, rolled his eyes before he followed behind.

"I CANT BELIEVE YOU GUYS FORGOT US" Bon yelled pulling on Rin tail, all you did was groan from being woken up. It felt up it was two in the morning.
"Mmm, shut up Bon" you mumble covering yourself as you went back to sleep.
"WE WERE DYING FROM THE HEAT WHILE YOU GUYS SLEEP YOUR ASSES OFF!" He snatched the cover from you.
You sat up looking at him "LET GO OF MY TAIL YOU DUMBASS" Rin yelled setting his flames off covering both him and Bon.
Your eyes widen as you got up, but calming down once you realize it wouldn't hurt you.
"Let go of him, Bon!" You sigh, rubbing your face with your hands.
Bon let Rin go, making the poor half demon rub his bottom from the pain. "Asshole" Rin mumble glaring at Bon.
"Get over it" he sneer leaving the room, Shiemi hurry over to Ren to help him.
"Rin! Are you okay?" She looked at him with worried eyes. He glance at you before turning his attention on Shiemi.
"I..I'm fine" he lighly blush from her hands holding his.
You went to the main area, seeing Yukio scold Shura. "Hey Yukio" you mumble, saying your hello to everyone else.
"Sorry, for not being able to pick you guys up" you bow low, showing that you are sorry.
Bon sigh, feeling bad earlier for waking tou up with his anger. "It's fine, just stand up straight you idiot" he said looking the other way.
All you did was nod with a smile. Yukio pulled you aside away from everyone "so, how's Rin?" He looked serious.
"He's fine, he only flame up when Bon woke us up" you sigh. Yukio sigh with relief. You can still see the hate in Yukio eyes.
You remember every moment of it, he'll tell you, he'll is always embarrassed of Rin or that Rin wasn't one to be hanging around with.
"You know, you can't hate him for being the way he is" he didn't make eye contact with you. He only grumbled words underneath his voice.
"What was that?" You questioned, he sigh.
"It's nothing, it's just...he's stubborn and doesn't listen at times it bothers me" you nodded at his words.
You tried your best to understand him, but at times he takes it a bit to far. "I understand, but he's Rin, you can't really control a person actions or words" he nodded.
"I know, just checking on him" he sigh, he seems exhausted. "We gave you the best room in the home, me and Rin thought it would be nice for you" you smiled, taking his hand to lead him up. To where he is staying for the next few weeks.
Deep down, you knew Yukio will have to choose the death of Rins or humanity. And you already know his answer for that.
Rin came out the room with Shiemi behind him. "Heys guys" he rubbed the back of his head embarrassed.
"Hey, Rin any update on the case?" Izumo said, asking if it felt wrong to even ask who killed your parents or what.
"Oh, right that" Shima said to himself, he felt cold just thinking about fighting a Demon.
"We found an abyss on her mom's body all over...it looked like it was burley place there because be check photos for the same places we found them and they weren't there" Rin said. Everyone went quiet.
The king of chaos, what did he want with your parents? Or maybe with you.
"What? N-no way... the K-king of Chaos did this? Maybe it was one of its minions, " Konekomaru said as he left his soul being suck out of him.
"Trust me, I'm thinking the same thing...but Y/n didn't say anything else about it right after we found out" he mentioned.
"Maybe she hiding something," Shiemi said, stepping up right next to Rin.
"W-what? Y/n isn't the one to lie about..." Rin pointed out, but then he realized you did lie to your childhood friend about your leaving to Korea.
"What? What is it, Okumura?" Bon said as he noticed the way Rin trailed off.
"Nothing, she just lied to her childhood friend about living a normal life," he said, looking away.
He didn't want to believe you were lying. You aren't a liar. At least he thought. He doesn't want to doubt you.
"I...i think we all need to relax, we all had a long day, let's just settle down and get ready for bed" Shima said, noticing the change of the vibe in the room. Izumo got up and got her bags to leave to find her room.
Along with everyone else but Bon, Rin, and Shiemi.
They stood there looking at each other, the others didn't see it through it. Maybe she is lying.
"We'll talk about it later, Okumura," Bon said as he grabbed his bag to find his room as well.

Mephisto's Shooter
There's always been the mystery of who shot Mephisto. Whomever it was, was either trying to set Yukio up or save him.
Part of me thinks Mephisto was trying to push Yukio over the edge, to send him on a rampage and into the waiting arms of the illuminati. Mephisto knows Lucifer has the tech to answer Yukio's questions about his eye.
Hence, Mephisto, is actually, helping Yukio to find himself, even in a roundabout way. By being a manipulative asshole he pushes Yukio into shooting him. Yukio escapes from the Order as a criminal and goes to the illuminati and Lucifer.
But the timeline changes: Somebody else took the shot.
Most likely it had to be someone that cared about Yukio, and was horrified by what Mephisto was doing. Horrified because they didn't know the scope of Mephisto's complex plans.
It's never happened before. Who could the shooter be?
Was it Shima? : Lightning told Shima he would remove Shima's slyph bell, if he did a favour for him. Was that favour shooting Mephisto?
Why I don't think this is plausible: Lightning doesn't have empathy for Yukio, he also knows Yukio doesn't want to be saved.
Plus, Lightning has a Mornath contract on Yukio. If Yukio goes to the illuminati, Lightning can cause havoc through his familiars remotely.
One more thing, has anyone seen Shima use a gun? He's lazy, untrained and most likely a crappy shot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who else cares for Yukio?
Shiemi: but she wasn't there. She's not a gun welder.
Bon: A dragoon in training, but again, not there.
Rin: He wasn't there, just wandering around looking for Yukio
Shura: Shura was standing on the stage and therefore couldn't interfere. (Mephisto did this on purpose.)
Was is Shiro?
Shiro is an excellent shot. The best shot in the history of exorcists.
But Shiro is dead.
Well, 50 year-old Shiro in chapter one is dead.
For the last 16 years Shiro had the Kamakushi key hanging around his neck. The same key that Rin uses in later chapters to visit the past.
The Kamakushi key that can take people to wherever place or time they desire. Shiro could technically travel to the past, future or present.
That's why he knows Shura turns out okay. And asks her to train Rin. He knows she has a good heart, and becomes a damn good warrior. He knows everything by the time he dies. He knows how the story plays out to a point. He's used the key.
In one instance, Rin visits a late 20-something Shiro while travelling to the past using the same Kamakushi key. Rin pretends to be a young exorcist, working for Mephisto. But through his conversation with his dad, Shiro perhaps realized that it was an older version of his baby son. Even though the teen had white hair, Shiro knew that baby Rin has white hair. He would make the connection, the man is not stupid.
Rin was clearly emotional to see Shiro. He acted like he hadn't seen his dad in a long, long time. Shiro would have realized that in the future he must be dead, and the boys left alone with Mephisto.
It stands to reason that he would use the Kamakushi key to go back into time and check on his boys.
The younger version of Shiro hasn't learned the entire future yet. And might not fully trust Mephisto. It makes sense for him to overreact and shoot Mephisto to try and save Yukio's future.
