9. What's something you always come back to when drawing?

Another answer for this one! People and bodies. I adore people in all their wonderful shapes and ages and sizes. There's a very specific kind of fondness you develop when you do a lot of figure drawing that's hard to describe -- an unbounded affection for how people-y people are. It's not even an "everyone is beautiful!" thing, although it's similar. People are just so people-shaped, and every body you draw contains a whole person who has lived a whole life. That's a mind-blowing, wonderful thing you are confronted with when someone sits naked on a stand for you for 45 minutes, and you must capture their likeness.

13. Talk about a WIP you like!

I'm drawing a pair of pictures where characters are looking in a mirror. The first establishes the tone and stakes, and the second responds to that tone by breaking and changing it. I really like mirrors and windows in art for thematic and narrative reasons. Unless it's a first-person POV shot, the "camera" is often a little voyeuristic. You (the viewer) are looking at someone looking at their reflection, which they did not invite you to see; you are looking through someone's window into their life; you are within someone's life, looking out their window at the life they see pass them by. There's something intimate about Looking, and mirrors + windows bring that to the forefront.

30. What's something you're proud of about your art style?

I like the way I sketch a lot! I often prefer my sketches to my paintings, though I love both in different ways. It's why I often stick my sketches in my art posts.

19. the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

Despite the fact I am a violinst and an orchestra musician, I actually did a lot of research for the breath before the phrase, due in large to the fact it has been a solid ten-ish years since I last studied musically academically. There were some specific terms that I wanted to make sure I were getting correct, as well as making sure my recollections of professional orchestras were correct. In the end, I meshed community orchestras with professional ones where necessary for plot reasons, but I did a massive deep dive into rehearsal schedules, salary expectations, admin functions, audition cycles, as well as looking up a variety of different concerto competitions for the later part of the fic.

29. how easy is it for you to come up with titles?

It really depends on the fic! Some of them have had a title from the start or very early on (the breath before the phrase and pieces of (you) me are both examples!) while others have been a challenge. I find those that are longer where I can really settle into a mood and theme with them come easier, while shorter fics are often more of a challenge for me. When in doubt though, I am a sucker for a song lyric or finding a piece of poetry that fits the mood and borrowing for there.

How many words have you written this year? OOOF. Great question! I don't really know. Published, I'm only at 10k, but I spent most of this year hopping between wips and never really finishing anything. I think this coming year I'll actually keep track of how much I write. That'd be neat.

28. Favorite work you wrote this year? I am most proud of FINALLY finishing The Witch and the Wolf, which is the first fic spawned by the esswulf server, back in mid 2022. I'm super happy that it's finally out there,

16: How exactly are you feeling at the moment?

Well....tired, for one, as it was a 12-hour workday. Also very emotionally drained after the death of my soul mate kitty a few days ago. But getting better.

32: What is your favourite color?

I truly love all colors, so it's really hard to pick a favorite! I tend towards fuchsia, orange and teal.

57: Do you believe in true love?

That's...complicated. I think I experience emotion a little differently than the norm, so I'm not entirely sure what true love is. I'm sure people do feel that for each other, though! I've certainly read and seen enough anecdotal evidence to believe that it does happen, though I may not be able to experience the full depth of that. Time will tell, though!

The Fealty Trio:

Fjord: he is a sailor, yes, and takes pride in his callouses and firm hands. But he is also a fancy boy now, and he regularly gets manicures to keep his hands and nails clean and maintained.

Jester: she has never paid taxes and she never intends to. Also, most of her fancy dresses are hand-me-downs from her Mama, who can only wear a gift from a suitor in public so many times before she has to discard it or else it appears like she's showing favoritism. Jester gets them tailored up and modified a little, but her wardrobe is primarily from her Mama.

Eadwulf: cannot handle spicy food. Considers just about everything, including the beer (which is predominantly IPA), on the Menagerie Coast spicy.

Reccer Says: Enjoyable and well written fic of Keyleth falling for Pike in a modern AU. Explores Keyleth as a character with anxiety and it's a great, gentle depiction of falling in love with great characterisation despite the rare pair.

Live your whole life on a might-have-been by Chrome (2,681 words, Teen) Pairing: Veth Brenatto/Caleb Widogast (Widobrave) Warnings: None

Just a very short and atmospheric peice set in a modern au where Caleb and Veth met at university, and he’s driving her part of the way home for the holidays.

Reccer Says: I can’t describe the feelings this fic gives me. It’s understated and bittersweet and so full of longing that you’ll want to die. It feels like a Hemingway story almost with the way it manages to pack so much meaning in between the words the characters actually say.

Beau is a mess and I love her, I want to squish Jester in my hands, and the wizards are menaces of a side pairing. Also the conversation between Beau and Essek at the maid cafe is so good.

9. What fic meant the most to you to write?

sleep, with benefits. I had such fun with it, truly writing for my own enjoyment more than anything else, and it was full of everything I like reading.

12. What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it?

I have tried to answer this one a number of times, and of the fic I've published none of them were difficult to write as such, but I think it is all the ideas I've had (and there are many) that I could not get down onto the page. The second half of the year was physcially and mentally draining on me for a number of reasons, and any time I would open a doc to try and get some words out, my brain would focus on literally anything else. I'm hoping with a little rest and recovery and I come back around and find the joy in it again.

Sheik (The Legend of Zelda) - my relationship with gender is like. we're friends with benefits. i was born female and present that way about 98% of the time but it literally doesn't matter to me at all, and i think the first time that i came to that conclusion was playing ocarina of time and finding out that zelda was sheik.

Deacon (Fallout 4) - the first character that ever made me start to really unpack all the masks i wear. deacon changed the game because i don't think i even knew how dishonest i was being with the world until i dove into his headspace.

Jayce Giopara/Talis (League of Legends/Arcane) - it's hard to talk about jayce without splicing the league and arcane lore in an inconvenient way, but i'll say this - guy who tries his hardest and screws it up all the time but never gives up, driven only by a desire to make the world better? would that i had his grit.

Miranda Lawson (Mass Effect) - again, that feeling of being something manufactured rather than born. artificial rather than organic. i love an ice queen always, and though i think the execution of her character left a lot to be desired, i'll always have a soft spot for her.

Olivier Mira Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist) - unapologetically cold. inarguably a good guy. an unmatched girl crush of mine.

Morrigan (Dragon Age) - i don't know if anything has ever made me so angry as finding out a female PC couldn't romance morrigan without mods. a prickly swamp witch with negative social acumen. what more could i want in a woman?

Hana Song/D. Va (Overwatch) - i decidedly do not go here much anymore, but hana song was the perfect storm for me when overwatch fandom was at its height. still a child, she carried the weight of her country's security on her back, and did everything she could not to crumble.

Jaina Proudmoore (Warcraft) - my girl has been done so dirty by blizzard entertainment time and time again, but her rage spoke (and speaks) to me in a way that i have trouble putting words to. also i want my hair to look like hers.

Handsome Jack (Borderlands) - i fucking love this fucked up guy. there's nothing deeper here.

Astarion Ancunin (Baldur's Gate 3) - what, you thought he wouldn't make the list? looking at astarion ancunin is like looking in a mirror, and frankly, it almost makes me uncomfortable sometimes. no notion of self-worth (except where sex is involved, and even that is complicated), snarky little prick, outright mean when people get too close? yeah. he's just like me fr.
