I lost one of my chickens :( she was caught and carried away by a fox... I’ve been growing complacent about my chickens’ safety I think because we’ve only had one other attack before, a goshawk that swooped in abruptly (unsuccessfully), but no fox sightings nearby so I’ve been assuming Pandolf was a great deterrent. Which he is, just not foolproof. I’ve talked to some people in town about this and they were pretty philosophical about foxes stealing chickens, like “it’s the tribute we pay to woodland animals, it’s just a few hens here and there.” I don’t begrudge the fox for being a fox, if anything I have a renewed respect for foxes because everyone I talked to proceeded to give me their best / worst fox stories, and most of them involved foxes outsmarting humans (learning people’s habits / timetables, opening latches, faking a limp...) Still I feel terrible for my hen, she was only three. RIP Cordy :( You’ll be remembered fondly... (except by the cats.) I feel bad for the other hen too, who just lost her pal!
When I said that last thing, one of my neighbours jumped on the opportunity to try and convince me again to accept a rooster from him. He had a rooster baby boom last summer and I’ve been telling him for months that I don’t need a rooster, I don’t want to raise chickens I just want eggs, and his new argument was that a rooster would protect my hen (or if it comes to that, would heroically sacrifice himself rather than let the hen be eaten—I’m sceptical...) I asked around for a young hen but there aren’t any to be had in this season, so my remaining one is going to be alone until the spring, and my neighbour said she’d get stressed and male company is better than no company. (I wish I could ask my hen what she wants! Maybe she’s penning A Coop Of One’s Own as we speak.) I said the rooster was more likely to stress her out and harass her and he said nah they’re free ranging all day, it’ll be fine, and he’s young so your adult hen will boss him around. I was like, but then will he be any good at protecting her? etc. etc. and after a while I caved in.
When I told her about this on the phone my mum sighed “you’re terrible at saying no”—excuse me, I said no so many times and the guy just kept ploughing on until he could foist a rooster upon me. I’m good at saying no, other people are terrible at hearing it! I reassured her that I had only agreed to take the rooster for a short probationary period, and if he bothers my hen too much I’ll drive him back to his native farm. My mum was like “Drive him back? look I’m sorry I raised you as a city kid but there’s no need to waste gas on driving a rooster around, I’ll have no qualms about wringing his neck for dinner if he’s more trouble than he’s worth.” The rooster’s fate is not sealed though, if he is anywhere from vaguely useful to not actively problematic I’ll keep him, so we’ll see...!

*bursts into the ted lasso tag covered in blood*
THE WHOLE GOAL OF BEING A MANAGER OF PEOPLE IS TO COACH THEM TO THE POINT WHERE THEY NO LONGER NEED YOU! GOOD MANAGERS KNOW THEY ARE SUPPORTING CAST AND NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER! IT’S A LOT LIKE PARENTHOOD BUT IT’S NOT A SUBSTITUTE! TED MISSED HIS KID! HE WANTED TO BE THE STABLE AND LOVING PARENT HE NEVER HAD! HE CHOSE TO DO BEST BY HIS SON BUT ALSO BY HIMSELF! JUST BECAUSE YOU LOVE A THING DOESN’T MEAN IT’S MEANT TO BE PERMANENT! GOODBYES CAN BE SAD AND HARD BUT STILL THE RIGHT THING TO DO! BEING A GOOD COACH - AND PARENT - IS ABOUT KNOWING WHEN TO LEAN IN AND KNOWING WHEN TO LET GO!

Starlo's personality
I'm still confused about this man's 'true self,' gotta admit. How much of 'himself' IS there in 'North Star'?
What we know about real Star:
He's a nerd/geek obsessed with westerns; that's where he got the inspiration to build WE
He looks different than with the hat on and used to wear braces
Was shy in his teenage years around Ceroba (no idea how he acted normally) + couldn't confess to her
His mom (after killing him) says how he's never been the one to follow rules. I wonder what she meant by that. Rules, like, you're supposed to hate humans like everyone else or rules, like, no sneaking off to practice your shooting and lasso skills? Both?
Ed describes the 'old him' as a fearless leader and as a monster who could 'make his own fun in the little things' (you mean he used to be more humble but at the same time remained an ambitious risk-taker?)
Is insecure about where he comes from and what he looks like
We don't have enough info to know what he was like as a kid. I'm curious if absolutely everything about North Star is the opposite of Starlo (I don't think it is); both are kind and protective. Still, I can't help but wonder if the Starlo after Showdown, in both routes, is the real him or not. Maybe 50% yes and 50% no
Just from the end credits, the only thing I got about him was that he's kind and friendly and optimistic and charming (North Star is this way too, but more exaggerated). Nothing new
So maybe Starlo IS North Star, but more modest (aka not as exaggerated)
I'm curious about your thoughts guys.
Also I forgot to mention how he wanted to plan a PARTY for Kanako, in neutral says that the PARTY in the saloon was great (and the letter he sent was pretty charming), wants to accompany Ceroba in the Steamworks, is open about how he feels (immediately openly confronts Ceroba and calls her out; he's assertive), not afraid to get physical if it means protecting Clover & Martlet, can be pretty loud (like when he spotted Clover after sparing him in neutral, he was like "DEPUTY!!!"
I'm left wondering if all this is the real him or not. I think it is. Just maybe toned down a bit :) It's the only explanation for the fact he's been doing all this for a really long time and never showing signs of wanting to stop/that it exhausted him

Lil my lil merlin x valen hc cuz I miss them but I can't draw them rn:
Merlin is a lightweight, valen learn this after one time they had a dinner ( uninterrupted. A miracle by itself) and the magister drank exactly two mug of rum and already drunk ( he doesn't normally drink alcohol.. But how can he remember that or why?)
Merlin is a sappy / touchy / affectionate drunk, tugging and get closer to valen like a cat (if they weren't in public he'd sat on the knight lap just like a cat)
I hc valen is more to sleepy drunk tbh and in my opinion? He can hold his alcohol quite well so seeing THE magister merlin drunk is very very amusing
Usually it's the merlin listening to valen yapping of things, but on times like this one the role flip and it's just merlin mumbling of his adventures while valen listen
"you know.. Its not the same when you're not around.. It felt weird" "does it now? What, attach to me already?" "........ I mean it'd be impossible not to"

Happy birthday, Runaan! I hope being turned into a cupcake is at least slightly better than being trapped in a coin.
[ID: Three photos from different angles of a crochet chocolate cupcake. The frosting is made to resemble the top half of Runaan's head. He has black safety eyes, tan skin, white hair in three ponytails, dark purple horns, and light purple horizontal markings across his nose and cheeks. His right horn has a silver horn cuff. His left horn is much smaller than the right and doesn't have a horn cuff. In the first photo, there is a lit candle on top of the cupcake. /end ID]
