Thoughts about the FL thing, sans money now.
So that one friend who moved to Cali FINALLY texted me. I can't blame her at all for taking that time. It was hectic. Basically suddenly finding your existence illegal and the fact that she was in an accepting household could risk her mom losing her youngest kid. Like FL is fucked up and I'm glad she's safe now. And then me saying that I'm moving back to FL soon and she's just instant panic. Instantly worried about me. Telling me that if i go, i shouldn't come out. I shouldn't continue with that at all. Put the gender fuckery on hold. I think she even offered to help me out to Cali also once she's got her own place out there. Honestly, sounds pretty nice. I mean, the guy I've been talking with for all this time and basically have a long distance, soon to be short distance, relationship with has been listening to everything I've been saying about FL and iirc, Cali is actually a state where his insulin might come cheaper and easier. We've literally been talking about taking our time in town, getting money, saving money, and leaving the state, perhaps even the country. Like, he needs a place with socialized healthcare so he doesn't have a pricetag on his life and i need a place where i can literally be myself. And that place sure isn't FL.
Jeez, going back to FL in this political climate is so damn terrifying but i can't stay here. I'm losing my mind here. I'm stuck in a tiny ass place with too much stuff to fit into my damn 6x8 ft room that has 0 air flow, with a 14yo who acts like she's 7 (she's mentally okay, she's just immature and won't grow. like you give her advice and she starts guilting you about how she's not perfect). I've got my dad who i haven't been with for longer than a month since i was 8, who can't get anything done without at least a month of procrastination. We're all broke. There's planes and trains and trucks that shake the whole trailer every hour 24/7. It's not walkable. Hell, it's hardly drivable with all those axle-breaking potholes and blind intersections. There are even air quality warnings like once a week. And that's not about the smokescreen over the northeast. That's just what it's Like Here. Our water is brown like once a month. I swear like three water mains leading to our area burst since January. There are even shootings basically once a week within five miles of here. I hear guns firing constantly at like 2am like clockwork. I'm broke. I can't deal with it here. The payments needed to keep a car legal are higher in this state than most others. (including mandatory inspections? That YOU pay for??) What the fuck even is this city?
At least in FL, i know the town well. I know the people. I know the roads. It's kept nice because it's a damn tourist trap. Not some still-segregated urban sprawl. Sure, there's annoying rednecks there and snowbirds who act like they own the place, but you're less likely to get shot going to the gas station or break your car's entire front axle after not swerving around the wrong pothole so you don't get hit head-on by a tanker. Sure, I'm going to be terrified to be as gnc as i am. But what's another couple years in the closet, right? right? 🙃 Just have to keep my job, keep that guy close so I seem straight/cis passing, and hold my tongue in public. And maybe not look queer to an emt if something bad happens. Suck up dysphoria for a while and actually wear form-fitting clothes so nobody will try anything.
Holy fuck the entire southeast is so fucked up. Why do i have to be stuck here?

Beginning and End by mightbewriting: Years. Broken into months into weeks into days—into hours, minutes, seconds—into moments. Simple at one end, complex at the other. In Draco’s experience, moments, even when simple, had a habit of becoming irretrievable. Moments grew, stretched, multiplied into ages and eras that defined whole stretches of measurable time. Draco regretted several moments in his life, some within his control, some without: all of them irretrievable in nature. At a certain point, wedged between ‘what-ifs’ of his own devising, he’d stopped trying to keep track of those regrettable moments: now and then, pushing and pulling, coming and going, beginning and end. Bells on a Hill by HeyJude19: Left by his fiancée a month before the ceremony, Draco never got his dream wedding, so agreeing to assist Granger with her own wedding planning to distract himself from his broken engagement seems like a great idea—though Draco probably shouldn't fall in love with the bride-to-be. Break for me by Ada_P_Rix: COMPLETE _______________ "-I told them this wouldn’t work.” He cut in through gritted teeth as he kept his eyes on Hermione, making her pulse quicken and she couldn’t help but clench her thighs together at the rough, husky tone of his voice. He didn’t miss it; his eyes landed on her thighs and they darkened even further. “I can’t help her when all I feel like I want to do is pin her down and fuck her into the mattress.” _______________ Hermione gets into a little accident at work and is infected with a hybrid potion created to cause certain heightened side effects. Draco offers to stick around to give his work partner a little support ... if he can Occlude long enough to resist her... E, 7 Chapters, 45,107 Words

Dark Water and Dying Eyebrights by bexchan: One of them is desperately trying to remember their past while the other is forever trying to escape theirs. Sick as a Dog (Bruce Wayne x Batmom!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N is sick at home with the flu. Bruce wants to stay home and look after her, but she's just as content to hang out with their doggies.
Warnings: illness, fainting, she/her pronouns for reader
A/N: I’m not brushed up on the current DC canon because it gets retconned so much that I gave up (and also bc I don't like BatCat) but I'm pretty sure Ace and Titus exist in the same canon.
Tumblr media
It took a week of constant sneezing, coughing, and sniffling for Y/N to admit that she was sick. Sick as a dog, as Alfred would say. Although she’d never witnessed the Wayne household’s dogs, Ace and Titus, be as sick as she felt at that moment.
Y/N had begrudgingly wiped her schedule completely clean after being persuaded 24/7 by Alfred and Bruce, and she still wasn’t too pleased to be spending all of her time at home. It wasn’t that she didn’t love her husband and his surrogate father, but she liked her work. Being a concerto pianist with the Gotham Symphony Orchestra was her lifelong dream and ever since achieving it she wasn’t going to let some other players take her spot that she worked so hard to get. At least she could take a week away from the orchestra’s overbearing conductor who enjoyed stopping an entire piece just because one note was out of place.
Spending time with the boys won’t be so bad, she thought as she sat on the couch with Ace and ran her fingers through his fur. The German Shepherd nuzzled his face into her lap and looked up at her with his big brown eyes.
“Careful, boy,” she said to the dog. “You’ll make your brothers get jealous.”
“Never mind his brothers, what about me?” a deep voice said from behind her. Y/N turned her head slightly and smiled when she saw Bruce standing behind the couch with a steaming mug of honey and lemon water for her.
“It’s not you who I need to worry about being jealous, honey,” Y/N in her rusty voice. “We have five other boys who would all fight you and Ace for me.” Bruce rounded the couch to sit next to her.
“Good thing they’re all busy today,” he said as he gathered her into his arms. Ace whined slightly when he could no longer cuddle with his mommy.
“Hey, you’ve had your turn. Let your daddy have a turn now,” Y/N said to the dog who slinked away to bother Alfred for treats.
“How are you feeling today?” Bruce asked her. She could only cough in response. “That good, huh?”
“I feel like I’ve swallowed a razor,” she rasped before taking a sip of water. “I knew I shouldn’t have shaken that new cellist’s hand. He’d been sniffing and wiping his nose with the back of it all week.” Bruce soothed his large palm over her arm as she drew herself closer into him.
“That’s why we should all carry hand sanitiser, you don’t know where people have been or what they’ve been doing.” Y/N wheezed a small laugh at that. “I’m going to keep you company as much as I can until you feel better.”
“Bruce, I’m not a child. You don’t need to keep an eye on me all the time,” Y/N chided. “And besides, I have Alfred and the dogs to keep me company.”
“Are you saying you’d rather hang around the dogs than your husband?” Bruce asked in mock offence.
“Maybe. My husband doesn’t appreciate ear scritches and belly rubs as much as Ace does,” Y/N countered amusedly.
“Alright, you got me there. But I’m still going to-” He was cut off by his phone’s text alert. He sighed as he pulled his phone out of his jeans pocket.
“What is it?” Y/N asked, trying to get a peek at the screen without spilling scalding hot water in her lap.
“Lucius,” he replied, his brow furrowed. “He says it’s urgent. Sorry, sweetheart. You’ll have to spend the day with Alfred and the dogs after all.”
“Hey, you’ve spent your whole life with Alfred. You of all people should know that it’s not a death sentence.” Bruce chuckled and kissed her on the forehead.
“I’ll see you tonight, honey. Don’t do anything too strenuous, you need to rest.”
Asking Y/N to not do anything too strenuous was like waving meat in front of an animal and telling it not to eat it. Of course, she was going to be on her feet at some point.
Tumblr media
When she knew for sure that Bruce wasn’t home and Alfred was busy running errands, she changed out of her pyjamas and got ready to take Titus and Ace for a walk around the manor’s grounds. If anyone had seen her they would have thought it comical that such a small person could walk two huge dogs without being pulled along by them. But she and Damian had worked hard on training their mini wolf pack so the two smallest members of the Wayne household had no problem at all.
A walk will definitely blow some of these cobwebs away, Y/N thought as she breathed in the fresh scent of the flowers in the gardens that she had planted weeks before. However, as she bent down to let the dogs off of their leashes, she suddenly felt light-headed. She stood for a moment to regain her bearings and take a deep breath before shaking it off and following the dogs. It didn’t last long, unfortunately.
Her legs felt heavy and sluggish, cold sweat started to bead on her brow, and the world seemed to be spinning faster and faster. The dogs looked to be miles away and she couldn’t catch up to them. She felt herself slowly come to a stop before the ground came up from under her feet, sending her crashing into the grass. Before her eyes closed from exhaustion she felt a wet nose nudge at her cheek, while barking sounded off in the distance.
Tumblr media
When Y/N finally came to, she found herself tucked in bed with a heavy weight draped over her middle. She opened her eyes to see Ace resting his head on her stomach, while Titus was snoozing on her legs. She turned her head to see Bruce parked in a chair beside the bed, scrolling through his phone. He looked up when he heard the sheets rustling.
“Hey, how’re you feeling?” he asked gently.
“What happened?” she asked in response. “The last thing I remember was walking the dogs in the garden. How did I end up here?”
“Well, you pushed yourself too hard - like I told you not to do - and you fainted from exhaustion,” he said as he placed the back of his hand on her forehead, feeling her temperature. “It’s a good thing you and Damian have trained the dogs so well or else you’d have been there for hours.”
“Sorry,” she said sheepishly while nuzzling her face into Bruce’s hand. “I thought the fresh air would do me some good.”
“It’s okay, honey. I would have done the same thing. Now, how about I run you a bath?”
“Could you run us a bath instead?” she asked sweetly.
“If by ‘us’ you mean me and you, I certainly can,” Bruce said before placing a soft kiss on her hot cheek.
“Thank you, baby,” Y/N called after him as he disappeared into the bathroom.
Ace had shifted further up her chest while Titus had moved from her legs to her side. Thankfully the master bed was big enough for all of them. Y/N gave them both head scratches which they both leaned into appreciatively.
“And thank you, boys, for looking after me,” she said to the dogs. Titus responded with a huff before shoving his head under her arm while Ace gave a small lick to the tip of her nose.

Hii! I love your blog! I was wondering if request are still open can you do yan!mikaelson siblings x platonic!reader
Yandere General Mikaelson Siblings (platonic)
Tumblr media
The Mikaelsons are bad enough to deal with individually but together they're so much worse. If they're not fueling each other's own obsession or behavior then they're constantly trying to one up one another.
You won't know what privacy is after the Mikaelsons have "forced" welcomed you into the family. Whatever you alone time you once had will be nonexistent. All your time will be filled with one or all the Mikaelsons vying for your attention; whether it be Klaus insisting on painting you or just having you sit while he vents, or Elijah reading either to you or with you. Or even Rebekah dragging you out shopping with her or intruding on whatever your doing only to complain about what the others have gotten up to, or dealing with Kol trying to get you to tag along to cause whatever trouble he's aiming to stir up.
Klaus is by far the worst amongst the Mikaelson siblings. All he wants is to keep you safe and with the family, with him. If he had it his way he would lock you away and throw out the key but Rebekahand Elijah call that being immoral and cruel. You're the most important thing to Klaus, he will do anything to ensure nothing happens to you. You'll be the only one to calm his angry tantrums and talk him down from harming any of his siblings. He has such a soft spot for you, all the siblings do, but you could literally get away with anything when it comes to Klaus. You could do no wrong in his eyes unless you were to try and leave him or the family of course, but even then he could never bring himself to ever physically harm you.
Klaus is beyond possessive, delusional and clingy, he demands your constant time and attention. He is known for his very temperamental behavior and he hates to share you with anyone, especially his siblings. But he's highly hypocritical all the same, expecting his siblings to share or give up their own time with you for him but he wouldn't do the same for them, going as far as throwing a hissy fit if ever asked to.
Rebekah is also possessive and clingy, she doesn't necessarily need your attention 24/7 as long as she can be in your presence and stay close to you, she doesn't really mind. She's just as protective as her brother's, as well as petty, if someone rubs her the wrong way they're either dead or she'll surely get revenge against them. Anyone close to you is no exception.
Rebekah is another one who can be much more tolerable then Kol and Klaus. She's more empathetic and understanding of the controlling behavior of mostly Klaus and how he will go to all ends to make sure he has you by his side and as much as that annoys her, she would do the same given the chance. She loves you just as much as her brothers and she's willing to go above and beyond to keep you safe and happy. Your happiness means the world to her, she may not have gotten the chance at her own but she'll be damned if you suffer the same fate. She'll fight for your happiness and do anything to ensure it but all she asks is that you let her stay by your side and be a part of you life.
Even though she herself has been willing, more times then not, to give everything up for love, she won't stand for you doing so. She's more than willing to accompany you to live a somewhat normal, human life but when it comes to love, that's a whole other situation. Of course she wants you happy and she does but she can't accept the thought of you abandoning her for someone else, or the thought of you being happy without her. You make her happy and give her the love she's always yearned for and she's not letting someone's else have that, whether they be friends or love interests. She won't let you leave her behind.
Elijah is far more passive when it comes to you, he knows and is understanding of how you'll react to being taken and brought into the family. Klaus, Kol and Rebekah will be far more impatient to your distress but Elijah will give you the time to adjust, keeping his younger siblings at bay all the while. You'll probably grow closer to him specifically because of this fact but that won't sit well with the others, especially Klaus.
Elijah is by the far the easiest to tolerate. He's always the one to lend his ear to you whenever you have something on your mind about. He'll actually listen to your words of needing space or time for yourself, but you'll only have a limited amount of free time and he's always close by in case anything may go awry. Elijah is the most fair out of his siblings but that doesn't mean that he isn't selfish for your time and attention much like his siblings, he's just much better at getting your willingness to spend time with him then his siblings are.
Even though he is much calmer and empathetic then his siblings, at least regarding Kol and Klaus, he can still be just as cunning, ruthless and murderous as them, but with the added patience in tow. He's just as obsessive but he's more protective then anything else. He just wants to keep you safe and happy. He'll be less likely to compel you, only doing so if it's in your best interest. But your needs will always come first for Elijah, he's not afraid to go against his own kin especially if it's for you. But then again, he isn't opposed to sacrificing your own thoughts and feelings if it ensures you staying with the family, whether that's what you want or not.
Kol is the definition of unpredictable, he's a loose canon waiting to go off, especially when it comes to you. He loves when you're along for the ride to cause whatever chaos he plans to ensue, whether your willing or not, it's his way of bonding and spending quality time with you. He has absolute no shame about killing anyone in regards to you, he'll do whatever he wants as long as he gets to keep you with him.
Kol isn't one for sharing, non of the Mikaelsons are save for Elijah, it's his least favorite thing about you being part of the family. He will encourage you to run off with him and cause whatever trouble the two of you can get into, hell he may even just up and take you away from his siblings without hesitation or a care in the world. He doesn't care too much for your's or other's thoughts and feelings especially in regards to his entitled time both to you and with you.
He is possessive and delusional. He's another one who demands your constant time and attention. He'll often go on killing sprees for you, feeding from anyone and everyone who has so much as looked at or have breathed the same air as you. Sometimes he'll even bring you back souvenirs from his murderous endeavors. He expects you to praise him for his efforts and accept his gifts. He's just showing you how far he's willing to go for you. Rebekah and Elijah are the ones who will usually clean up after him and dispose of his 'gifts'.
Kol and Klaus are the ones who won't bat an eye at killing anyone close to you, let alone your own family. They both go out of their way to get rid of anyone who has interacted with you, feeling the need to prove that they're so much better than any of them.
Klaus and Kol will be the ones to push for you to be turned right away but Rebekah and Elijah will push harder for you to be, at the very least, a certain age so that you can still live a relatively normal human life for the time being until the set date. Of course if anything detrimental were to happen they would change you in a heart beat. Klaus and Kol may even conspire together or separately to change you quickly.
The longer you're human the more the Mikaelsons will be protective and hover around you 24/7. You and your safety are the upmost importance to them, they aren't going to take any risks with you involved.
All they want is for you to be with them and be a family, they're all more then willing to compel you to be willing of and accepting to the family. All the siblings in their own ways will sacrifice your true happiness and what you really want by compelling you, whether they know it or not. At the end of the day they are selfish, immortal beings who want what they want and they will do anything and everything to both get and keep it.
If Esther and Mikael ever take any interest in you or were the ones to actually bring you into the family in the first place, the siblings won't tolerate them trying to get close to you whatsoever. After what they've had to go through with their own parents they aren't going to put you through the same suffering and fear that they've had to live with and runaway from for centuries. The siblings will only be fueld all the more to protect you and to finally get rid of their birth givers for once and for all.
No one will be safe from the wrath of the Mikaelson siblings. If they feel threatened by someone then they will gladly kill that person and use any and all necessary actions to keep you safe and with them. You'll only ever be safe with your new family. They'll keep you safe and happy, at least what they consider happy. But you'll never have to fret, you're family will always be there for you, even if they are the only ones you have left.
Any and all friends and love interests will be seen as threats to the family. They don't want you being close with anyone except your new family. Your already existing family will be killed or compelled to forget about you. The siblings may even use their compulsion to have your family go against each other, breaking your family from the inside out.
They'll make sure to take very good care of you from now on, you won't ever have to worry about being abandoned or left to fend for yourself. You'll have four very capable family members to stay by your side, loving and protecting you for the rest of your soon to be immortal life.

Word Count: 3.4k
Warnings: None
Summary: They say at fourteen you’re too young to know you’re in love. But what if you aren’t?
Navigation: chapter one
October
Grade: 9
Age: 14
---------------------------------
Ever since that class, you and Joel became inseparable whenever you were within talking distance. You just seemed to gravitate towards him, and he seemed to do just the same. When you needed a pep-talk before a big test, he was there. Whenever you needed a laugh, he was there. He seemed to just always be there. He even noticed when your hands started to slightly shake before a quiz or test. How would he respond? He’d do what any nice, respectful, and caring teenage boy would do: goof off. The way he did so was completely up to how rambunctious he was feeling that day.
Would he throw crumpled up paper at his friends and just smile as the teacher yelled at him?
Or try and balance the close by meter-stick on his head (that was soon taken away after)?
Or would he possibly take a different turn and re-explain a topic you were still shaky on?
He was just unpredictable in that sense.
Now how were you feeling about this newly kind Joel?
“Your face is the reddest I think I’ve ever seen it,” Luna teased while you both walked out of the classroom after the bell rang, “and if I held up my bright red backpack to it, I don’t know which one would be redder.” She was on a roll that day.
You scratched your eyebrow in a lame attempt to hide your glowing cheeks. See, on that day, Joel decided to calm your nerves by drawing a star on your hand. Yes, your hand. It went sort of like this:
Your right hand was resting on the table so the back of your hand was facing Joel, who was also on your right. He was messing around with an orange marker, threatening to draw it on his friend just a table over.
“Draw one on y/n,” the friend slyly suggested with a devilish smirk. Joel’s eyes widened to the size of hockey pucks and he whipped his head around to look at you. He glanced down at the marker and then regained his cool facial expression.
Meanwhile your blood ran cold and your head started to pound uncontrollably. You glance at Luna and she nods vigorously. You ball your hand into a fist and shakily stick it out, the adrenaline causing your hearing to slightly go. He offers a light smile, and you swear you can see him slightly exhale from relief. He positions the marker in his hand to get a good grip on it, because if he was going to draw on your hand, it had to be perfect.
He rested his hand under yours to hold it steady. Yes, his hand. He cleanly knocked the breath out of your lungs. You could feel the warmth radiate from his hand. He carefully and neatly (well as neat as a fourteen year old boy can) draws an orange star on the center of your balled up fist.
When his hand finally let go of yours, the touch felt too brief but also like forever.
You literally wanted to jump out of your skin. A mix of different colors felt as though they were swirling around your head in an intense blur. You wanted to throw up color and those sickeningly sweet feelings.
At this point, unlike the first time you guys were civil to each other, you surpassed the point of being screwed.
No. As soon as he touched your hand, you knew one thing for certain: you were in love with Joel Farabee.
“Now that’s one perfect good luck charm,” he says with a smirk.
Man, you just wanted to kiss that stupid smirk. That stupid yet adorable smirk….
And that’s how you ended up almost falling over in the hallway with Luna. In the hallway, she takes your hand and looks at the perfectly messy star.
“You’ve got that boy head over heels for you,” she sassed and laughed.
You playfully shoved her, but your heart skipped a beat.
You couldn’t help but wonder, did you really?
---------------------------------
“LOVE?” Luna practically yelled in your room. Your parents let you guys hang out after school that very same day because it was yet another Friday. Which is how you ended up with Luna screaming at you on your bedroom floor.
“SHHHHH,” you aggressively said as you tried to calm her down. You pointed downstairs to your parents. You had told them earlier that Luna drew the star on, not Joel. They didn’t even know Joel existed.
“Sorry,” she whispered, “but LOVE? You’re in love with him? Are you sure? Aren’t we too young for that? At least, that’s what my mom says.”
You sigh deeply. “Look, I know, Luna. But there’s just something so different about him. Something I can’t explain.”
“Okay, but you also haven’t liked more than two people,” Luna counters, “and we’re fourteen.”
“But have you looked into someone’s eyes before and felt safe? Have you wanted to cling onto them and never let go? You’ve got to listen to me, these feelings are so intense that I want to throw them up in a glittery mess. He runs in circles around my mind 24/7. I wonder how his hugs feel, I wonder how I would act if I met his parents.” You pause for a moment and stare her in the eyes.
“I barely understand how I feel, myself,” you whisper. “I am so screwed, Luna, but I don’t care.”
Her face relaxes and she slowly nods her head. She breaks out into a smile.
“I hear you,” she calmly states as she takes one of your hands. “I will be here with you while we figure this out, okay?”
“Okay,” you nod in a soft whisper tone.
Maybe it was the cumulation of him constantly caring for you in his own way. Maybe it was the way he never made dumb jokes at the expense of your feelings. Maybe it was the way talking to him came so easily and naturally to you, like you’ve known him for lifetimes. Or maybe it was just the fact that you were young, like Luna said.
But you knew deep down you couldn’t wholeheartedly buy into that logic.
Because in the end, you knew you were right.
---------------------------------
You turned fifteen on November 25, so you’re always exactly three months older than Joel, which he definitely did not appreciate. He found out when the teacher wished you a premature Happy Birthday the day before Thanksgiving Break.
“I cannot believe you,” he said in a mockingly defensive manner.
“Joel, I can’t exactly control when I was born you know,” you jokingly shot back. The playful banter was your favorite part of the day. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t look forward to it now.
“Well, how am I supposed to wish you a happy birthday when we won’t be in class?” He dramatically pouted.
I could give you my number, you thought. You’d never actually say that, though.
Suddenly, he turned and snatched a random piece of paper from one of his friends, and judging by the sharp “Hey!” that came out of the friend’s mouth, it probably was of some sort of importance. He grabbed your pencil and borderline slammed them down in front of you.
“Here, write down your number and all of our problems will be solved.”
Did he just? Did what you think just...happen? Fourteen year old you was absolutely dumbfounded.
“Sure,” you said as nonchalantly as possible, when in reality you were about to black out.
You scribbled down your number and handed it to him.
He opened his mouth to say something, but the bell rang, and you both scrambled for your things in the midst of chaos.
“I will be looking forward to that birthday wish,” you called out as he headed for the door. At first, you didn’t think he heard you, but at the last moment, he turned around and winked before stepping out the door.
You would have melted onto the floor if it wasn’t for Luna squealing in your ear like it was a holiday morning.
November 25 couldn’t come soon enough. Yes, you were excited to turn fifteen, but now you had another reason.
The question was, was that a good thing?
---------------------------------
November 25
Age: 15
Grade: 9
You woke up on your birthday morning with adrenaline coursing through your veins. After a fun Thanksgiving with family the day before, you were excited to finally celebrate your birthday with just your mom and dad, like you always did.
You’d be lying if you said the first thing you checked was not your phone. But, It was the first thing you reached for on your nightstand. Not your glasses, like normal.
You quickly scrolled through your notifications looking for an unknown number. There’s a text from your aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, cousins. Your heart sank when you reached the end. Nothing from him.
You placed your phone down and shook your head to clear out the negative energy that engulfed your body.
It was your birthday, you weren’t going to let anyone ruin this day for you. Even him.
---------------------------------
It was after dinner, which was your absolute favorite meal. You had gone to the mall with your mom and dad for some birthday shopping, a tradition you were very grateful for.
On the way home, you were happily thinking about the new outfits you were gifted, until your phone buzzed. Your heart quickened.
Luna!!: did he text you yet?
You exhaled sharply.
You: no, he hasnt :(
Thanks for the reminder, Luna.
Luna!!: bummer. i’m sure he will soon.
Luna!!: he’d be an idiot not to, don’t worry, love!
You mindlessly stared out the window of the back seat, hoping the blur of the trees would take your mind off of him.
You could sense your dad glancing at you using the rearview mirror.
You turned to look at him. “What?”
“Everything okay?” He asked.
You plaster a huge smile on your face and say yes, of course, because your parents have done so much for you that day that you should have been fluttering from happiness. You mean, you were happy. You couldn’t have been more thankful. Your heart just yearned for him to fulfill his promise.
Because you didn’t know what school was going to be like if he didn’t, and you weren’t ready to face that reality.
---------------------------------
That night, you brushed your teeth and got ready for bed. Your heart felt heavier each time you checked your phone and “No Older Notifications” was displayed instead of seeing the one you longed for. You glanced at your clock on your nightstand. The bright red numbers glared at you. It was close to 11:00.
You sighed and spun your phone around in your hands as you thought. Call it delusion, but you refused to put your phone down. You knew he was going to follow through.
Did you know why you knew? Not a clue.
Without warning, your phone vibrated in your hands. You couldn’t have flipped it upright faster if you tried.
Maybe: Joel
Maybe WHO?
Maybe: Joel: Happy birthday math partner 🥳
Maybe: Joel: This is Joel by the way, that’s probably important to add
Maybe: Joel: Although you do only have one amazing math partner
You really thought you died there for a second. They were, like, a handful of words (excluding the Joel part) but they were enough to make you hug your pillow from overload.
You spastically texted Luna.
You: JESFEUN You: HE IFHUHF You: HE TEXTED ME LUNA
She must have been waiting for this text all day, just like you. She responded right away.
Luna!!: YAYAYA WHAT DID HE SAY?
You: Happy birthday math partner with the 🥳 emoji and he forgot to say his name until the second text lmaooo
Luna!!: aww thats so cute! he sounds like he has an empty head but you go hon!!
Luna!!: now text him back idiot before you forget or he goes to bed
You: yep one sec
Your thumbs circled aimlessly around the keyboard. You wanted to say so many things. You settled on this:
You: thanks, math partner :)
You hit send on that, hesitated for a moment, then typed:
You: and yes you’re a pretty great one
You took a deep breath and pressed send. You changed his contact to “Math Partner”
You wanted to throw up, but in a good way? You sighed into your pillow. Almost as quick as you sent it, you felt another buzz.
Your hand shot out to grab your phone.
Math Partner: Hey, anytime you need a star, I’m here
You glanced down at your hand, where the orange star was just a few short days ago. It was gone. You wished it didn’t fade.
You: the orange one has already faded :(
Math Partner: Well, to make up for the late birthday wish, I can give you another one once we go back to school since we have another big test
You nodded vigorously, as if he could see that through the screen.
You: maybe in red this time? it’s my favorite color
Math Partner: Whatever you want, birthday girl
What a simp, you thought. Also, you were surprised you still had a pulse at that point. Birthday girl?
Math Partner: I have to go now, I have hockey super early tomorrow. Goodnight 😁
“Hockey?” you whispered to yourself.
You: yay, thanks :) and goodnight!!
He plays hockey? you thought. Shouldn’t you have known that?
You frantically Facetimed Luna and whisper-yelled every word you two exchanged. Luna beamed with so much happiness that you could have sworn she was getting the guy.
“This is literally the best thing EVER,” she quietly exclaimed.
You just laughed a giddy yet nervous laugh. You still had no clue what was happening, but you were ready to embrace it.

January 25
Age: 15
Grade: 9
When the teacher switched around the seating charts during the year, she mostly kept you and Joel within talking distance each time. If that thing about teachers sensing when kids like each other was thought to be true, she definitely proved it to be so.
Thankfully, she kept this trend going when she switched the seats around on Joel’s birthday. She moved you guys back next to each other for the next quarter. Before, she briefly separated you guys for about two weeks (when Joel wouldn’t stop yelling to his other friend who was near him). During that time apart, you both were noticeably droopier and mopier than normal. He still joked with his friends, but you only heard his loud laugh a handful of times instead of….too many.
As for you, some kid you’ve never even talked to asked you if you were okay. The answer was of course no, but you couldn’t say that.
So when the brown haired boy sat down next to you for the first time in two weeks, it felt like the day he drew the star on your hand all over again. You wanted to reach out and hug him so he’d never leave you, much less say something, anything, but you just couldn’t still. Thankfully, he did the talking for you.
“Miss me?” he joked with his trademark smile.
“Very much so,” you said with a balance of sarcasm and lightheartedness. “Happy birthday, by the way.” You lightly shoved him, not entirely knowing where the guts to do that came from.
“Thank you, thank you. Did you get me anything?” he teased. He lightly shoved you back.
Your heart beated frantically. Your impulsivity urged you to do something you never would have a few months ago.
“Actually…” you paused for a moment. He raised his eyebrows. You reached for an orange marker and uncapped it with a pop.
“May I?”
He could hardly believe it.
“Do what?”
You playfully rolled your eyes. “Draw a star, dummy.”
“Ohhhhh,” he said as he connected the dots. He stuck out his clenched fist as he fought back a huge grin.
You couldn’t believe you were actually doing that.
You tucked your hand under his to keep it steady, just like he did with your hand a few months back. You took your time making sure each corner was connected precisely. You also didn’t want to let go of his hand, like, ever.
You finished way too soon for both your likings. You pulled away and closed the cap.
“Happy birthday, Math Partner.”
“Thanks,” he said. He had his eyes glued on the star you just drew. He didn’t even try to fight the grin that was creeping on his face.
Now you were the cause of his smile. Warmth flowed through your body. You just wanted to keep him that happy forever.
---------------------------------
That night, Luna called you on Facetime because apparently talking about those events in the hallway afterschool wasn’t enough.
“What’s up?” you calmly asked, as if you didn’t know why she was calling.
“What’s up? What do you mean what’s up? I mean, first you lightly shoved him. Yes, I saw that. But then you draw a star on him? I don’t know where this confident you came from, but I am living for it. I am so proud of you,” she sincerely said through a smile.
“Aw thank you, I appreciate it. Yeah, I don’t know either, honestly. He just brings out this good side of me now.”
“I can see that, and I love it. So...” She dragged out the “so,” and that was never a good sign.
“So?” you asked.
“What are you going to do about it?”
“About what?” You played dumb as best you could.
She didn’t buy it. “Oh come on, y/n. You know you love him, why don’t you tell him?”
You shuttered at that idea. By doing that, you risked losing what you’ve created so far. You were texting him roughly once or twice a week at that point about random stuff and talking to him in class every chance you got. Losing that was just something you were not prepared to face. And you told Luna that.
She (mostly) understood.
“I respect that,” she said. “But if you guys don’t hang out in the summer and keep this going, I will kill him.”
You snorted. “Me too, honestly.”
Could you guys keep this going for that long?
Only time would tell, you told yourself.

April
Grade: 9
Age: 15
Every time you saw Joel, you came home with a pep in your step. It was like clockwork. You would bounce into the house with a grandiose “Hello Mother” and hum a song stuck in your head. Today it was “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.
“How was your day?” your mom asked with a hint of suspicion. After months of letting your intriguing happiness spell go, it was too obvious for her to ignore.
“Good,” you said. You didn’t really want to tell her much about Joel because you knew she wouldn’t believe you if you told her how you really felt about him. Those strong feelings didn’t waiver once over the last few months. Okay, maybe once on the day that he accidentally spilled water on your homework. But you couldn’t stay mad at him after he willingly placed his own homework in the same water.
“You’re very happy today. Anything happen in particular?” She prodded.
“Nope,” you pop the letter “p”.
“Who’s the boy?”
You froze. “Boy?”
“There has to be, you haven’t been this happy to go to school pretty much ever.”
You sighed. It was your mom after all. Maybe she would believe you if you told her.
“His name’s Joel, he’s in my Algebra class,” you mumbled.
“Is he nice? Is he smart? Does he play hockey?” The questions flew from left and right.
“Yes, he’s nice. He’s really sweet to me. He is way better at math than me. Yes he does,” you rattled off the answers to her bombardment.
“Excellent,” she smiled. “You like this boy?”
“Yeah, I really do. A lot actually.”
She raised an eyebrow. “A lot?”
“Yeah, honestly, I might love him.”
That confession froze the kitchen over. She paused.
“Honey, you’re too young to know that,” she tried to reason.
Your chest stung. “What if I’m not?” You questioned.
“You’re fifteen.”
“I know Mom, I know.” She opened her mouth to talk, but you said, “I have to go start homework.” You charged up the stairs and crashed on your bed.
So what if you were fifteen? You didn’t care how old you were. Call it being naive, but you were sure you knew everything when you were young.
You just had to wait for timing to fall into place to prove everyone wrong.

Maybe It’s Better This Way (Klaus x Reader)
Requested by anon. I love writing for Klaus but it can get very tricky since there are so many scenarios that have already been done and I try to do something that isn’t that much on the forefront if that makes sense. Enjoy!
P.S I suggest you read this while listening to George Michael- Careless Whisper cause it is based on the vibe of the song
Tumblr media
Klaus dreaded seeing (y/n), not because he hated her- quite the opposite actually- he loved her so dearly that when she got caught caught in the crossfire between him and his wonderful father Mikael, his father used her as a weapon to weaken him, luckily she survived but the only reason she got to live was because Stefan had turned her. (Y/n) was one of the few people that appreciated humanity, it gave her a sense of grounding, reminded her that she was this little thing on this huge earth. When she turned it was the new world of possibilities and Klaus felt responsible, it all became so much for him, he felt like he had to be around her 24/7 and (Y/n) saw how controlling he had gotten even though she was immortal.
One night she left, in the middle of the night like a ghost and left the country, no one new her whereabouts for a few decades. Until she showed up to help the Salvatore brothers and defend Elena, she was informed about what Elena’s blood meant to Klaus and she owed Stefan so she braced herself for going against the man that she loved.
In classic Niklaus Mikaelson style him and his siblings had decided to throw a ball and what better way to see your ex lover than her attending your party with your new nemesis? She even went to buy a dress for the occasion, she wanted to make an entrance, it was the first time he would see her again and if he daggered her she need to go out in style. The dress was an Off the Shoulder 3D Lace Flower Sweetheart Bridal Ball Gown in pastel blue, Stefan had made fun of her for choosing an actual wedding gown nevertheless fashion is fashion and when she laid eyes on it she couldn’t find it in her heart to skip it.
She walked in the mansion she knew very well with the company of Damon, who was also dressed to impress, (Y/n) and Damon shared their love for fashion and the dry and dark humor so she needed him to keep her up and running with his clever remarks.
“You are trembling”
“That’s because I’m scared”
She admitted right before she stepped foot on the main room, looking around and letting all the memories flood her mind, it was like no one else was in the room, as the memories took form and she saw them two running around and being a couple. A lump in her throat started to form, making it hard to breath as she tried to swallow it down, squeezing Damon’s arm as a way to signal him for her weird mix of emotions.
“You’ll be alright, if he wanted to hurt you he would have found you ages ago”
“I suppose you are right, I need alcohol”
Klaus had seen her walk in, he was on the top of the stairs, hanging in the shadows with his brother Elijah, both of them stunned by (y/n) walking in the room, arms linked with none other than Damon Salvatore and looking as stunning as always.
“After all this time”
Elijah spoke first, understanding that his little brother was still trying to comprehend the situation that was unravelling right in front of his eyes. Klaus felt like time froze, everything else leaving his sight and it was only (y/n), walking in his home in her dress, not even walking to him it seemed like she was floating around like a fairy princess  that came to bless everyone with her existence. Her ethereal presence, her untouchable beauty, the way she seized to exist brought him to this indescribable state of shock, he couldn’t even express what he was feeling when he saw her.
“Brother, are you alright?”
“No”
He finally managed to utter out. Of course he wasn’t, he had imagined this so many times yet he never thought it would happen, he had accepted it, shoved his feelings back and tried to understand why she left and now here she was, strolling in and bringing back everything he had hid for all those years.
“You don’t have to talk to her”
“I want to Elijah... I must”
His legs moved on their own, with their target being on (y/n). He had no idea what he was going to say or how he was going to react, it didn’t matter, he just needed to be next to her, to hear her voice. His mind was clouded by millions of thoughts and questions that he wanted her to answer, if he managed to get them out.
“(Y/n)”
He called for her as he stood behind her. She froze, thinking over her if it was too late to run or just pass out, her legs were already shaking so it wouldn’t be that hard to just collapse. The glass of champagne she had just grabbed reached her mouth for a big sip of encouragement before she slowly turned to face the man she had shared so much with. He looked as handsome as he had always been, yet the harsh stare brought her a wave of goosebumps.
“Hello Niklaus”
“Can you tell your friend to give us a minute?”
The word friend was filled with venom. He couldn’t understand why she had chosen him as a companion, another factor of his annoyance was that their appearance together meant they knew where she was and chose to not share that information with him. (Y/n) looked over at Damon and nodded, a sign that she felt confident enough to be alone with him, she wasn’t but she felt like she owed him that much. Damon excused himself and walked away to give them some privacy, he understood that the pressure that was put on (y/n) was a lot for one to handle, so if she needed a minute with the psychopath then he would gladly let her.
“You’re here”
“Stefan asked me to come and... help him”
“Be honest with me love, he knows I would never hurt you so he wanted you as a secret weapon”
“You would never hurt me?”
It was a genuine question. He had every right to be mad at her, try to harm her and seek revenge in true Klaus style, everyday she wondered if it would be the day he came after her and tortured her or killed him. Now there they are, looking at one another and not knowing what to say
“You think so low of me?”
“No, that’s not it”
“Dance with me”
He couldn’t take it any longer. This awkward conversation, her cold demeanor, his nervous side that was preventing him from grabbing her and kissing her in front of everyone. At least he would be able to touch her when they danced, He offered his hand and waited for a minute, (y/n) was caught off guard, the last thing in her mind was for Klaus to ask her to dance, she took two big gulps emptying the glass and left it to the side before she placed her hand in his and let him lead the way to the dancefloor.
As he brought her close to his chest he got a good whiff of her sour cherry perfume, it was so suiting, the only way he could describe it was like biting into a sweet juicy cherry your lover gave you and finding out it was poisonous. She smelled like a sweet death from your lovers hand, very fitting for the situation
“Your dress is exquisite”
“It’s a wedding gown”
“I always wondered what you would look like on our wedding day”
He said as he spun her around and brought her to him once more, leaving her speechless as her lips slightly parted in surprise. (Y/n) knew Klaus loved her dearly, still the subject of marriage had never been brought up, she didn’t blame him, the man was supposed to leave for all eternity, she worried more about him bringing up turning her to a vampire than a wedding ring.
“Won’t you ask me why I left”
“No, I’d rather dance with you for a while, since I know I’m never going to dance like that again”
“Why not?”
“A dance is for the gentleman to show off his partner, make her feel special. No one is more special than you love”
“Stop please”
She felt tears cloud her eyes, tears that she refused to let them run down her cheek. As she rested her head on his shoulder and followed his lead, she let her love for him show for at least tonight. She had missed him so much, that his gentle nature felt like a drug that she would allow it to kill her. Klaus felt like he was in heaven, having her back in his arms was something he thought he would never experience ever again, this was a treat from above, even though she came in aid to something that did not work in his favor.
“Maybe it’s better this way”
She whispered. She didn’t know if they would ever get back together, maybe in the future, she never thought he would take her back, so she held it together and did her best to enjoy her time. She looked up at him, her eyes making him feel like he was finally home, those sparkling eyes he had seen in his dreams, the eyes that every time they looked at him he felt weak.
“We could have been so good together”
“We’d hurt each other with the thing we want to say”
She replied back. Klaus was a man filled with pride, he loved her but he didn’t know how to love in a healthy way, at first she tried her best to understand and to help him, after the Mikael incident where he took all the blame things only got worst, he became vengeful, dark, his temper was extremely unstable and (y/n) was no angel. She winced at the memories of the things she had yelled in his face, she could be vicious and ruthless, her wicked tongue was her biggest weapon and the bullets wounded him deeply.
“I should have know better than to hurt my only true friend, I wasted the chance that I was given”
“Please stay, for me”

Even after all these years, riding on a train still brought a small flutter to Lucy’s stomach as she remembered the long ago evening when she’d met her husband. From an innocent meeting to a death defying experience, talk about a roller coaster ride. And yet, if she had to do it all over again, Lucy wouldn’t change a thing. Crazy sounding yes, for why would anyone not want to avoid what she’d gone through? Touka had truly pushed her sanity to the breaking point, but well, the therapist was right in the end and Lucy felt almost invincible now. All that pain, all the struggle she’d pushed through had made her the strong and resilient woman she was today. Happily married to Natsu with their fraternal twins Nashi and Ryuu. Mrs. Natsu Dragneel, Lucy smiled to herself, there was no way she’d change a thing.
Of course, it hadn’t been easy. After Natsu proposed and Lucy had accepted, there were still a lot of work to be done. But that measure of acceptance and affection did wonders. Any worries she’d had that he wouldn’t want a broken woman melted away and gave her the confidence to get better. With each passing therapy session, her strength grew, and by the time they graduated college, Lucy could honestly say she’d been cured to a functional degree. No longer struggling through nightmares and panic attacks, her anxieties were under control and the debilitating depression a distant memory where it belonged.
Yeah... Lucy sighed happily as she watched the landscape pass by from her train seat. Meeting Natsu was the best thing to ever happen in her life, well, aside from the kids. They’d married about a year after graduation on the anniversary of their meeting. It was a beautiful affair at an indoor venue, with close friends and family to join them. They’d gone a more modern route for the ceremony but did take pictures at a garden dressed in the traditional attire for sentimental reasons. Lucy wore the shiromuku white kimono while Natsu a montsuki haori hakama. And no, it wasn’t train themed! Levy was the Maid of Honor and Gray was the best man. By then, Levy and Gajeel were also married and Gray in a serious relationship with a girl named Juvia Lockser. Lucy was so happy for them both. All of their lives were moving in the right direction.
Everything was perfect. Great jobs in their fields of interest, lives settled into a comfortable routine, when 5 years later Lucy was pregnant with fraternal twins. It was a total surprise since twins didn’t run in either of their families. Always the jovial optimist, Natsu joked that they’d been doubly blessed because of what they’d gone through, and Lucy couldn’t help but love such a concept. Of course, once the euphoria of the motherhood prospect waned, reality set in that she was having twins! Two! Double the babies meant double of everything, from the pregnancy concerns to raising them. Growing up without a mother and as an only child, Lucy didn’t have a lot of experience with small children. But Natsu patiently assured her, that she’d do just fine. Think of it as a new challenge, and after overcoming one pretty tough situation, this would be a walk in the park. On the bright side, Levy was also pregnant with the couple’s first child so the two best friend’s kids would grow up together.
And Natsu was right, there were a few bumps in the road but nothing too difficult. During her fourth month Lucy was diagnosed with gestational diabetes as well as some minor gastrointestinal issues, so Natsu swayed the doctor to put her on bed rest. Better safe than sorry. The babies were healthy, but by the 7th month, she really couldn’t move much, and she was miserable being stuck at home all the time. Lucy missed her job because she genuinely enjoyed working for the magazine. But in the end, it had been a good thing. She could manage her health easier that way and it gave her time to do something she’d thought about doing as part of the healing process. With Natsu’s support and permission, it was time to put her writing skills to good use and write a book about their experience.
It became an instant hit, especially with female readers. The book was not only an autobiographical reflection of what had happened to them but focused on shining a light on the dangers of stalkers, as well as the importance of taking the warning signs seriously. Lucy didn’t hold back in her re-telling, even pointing out the serious flaws in Japan’s laws in protecting citizens from stalkers which at the time were nonexistent. Feminist organizations working to change those laws used her story with permission for their cause. She had no intentions of becoming a poster child for the movement, but in the end her role may have played its part, because 2 years after the publishing, Japan finally adopted anti-stalking laws making it easier for police to string together harassment cases, as well as for victims to get the help they needed.
Her life was nothing but exciting to say the least! And with two young children, now age 10 certainly kept them on their toes. Their daughter Nashi was just like Natsu, very outgoing, friendly, but a bit of a daredevil while her brother Ryuu born 4 minutes after her was the quieter of the two. He preferred books like his mother to adventure. Of course, that never stopped Nashi from dragging him into shenanigans! But the best part was how close they still were and fiercely protective of each other. Lucy and Natsu couldn’t be prouder of them and hoped this would continue throughout their lifetimes.
Fifteen years... come to think of it, their wedding anniversary was coming up shortly. With Natsu now a senior fire inspector for the Tokyo prefectural government, he was often busy. Lucy did mind it, because frankly it gave her some peace and quiet. She chuckled at the thought. Not that it was all that peaceful with the twins. But she digressed. His success meant their lives were very comfortable, and her own journalism successes while not as financially based, were still celebrated in their relationship. Natsu never waned in being the dutiful and supportive, always loving husband that Lucy felt blessed to grow old with.
‘Two more stops, pick up the kids from school, stop at the grocery store for dinner...’ Lucy tapped out on her phone a to-do list of ingredients to pick up at the store. Perhaps katsudon... ‘Mmm, or maybe nabe,’ hot-pot soup since it was expected to be a bit chilly that evening.
Lucy looked up briefly, really just spacing out in thought when someone catches her eye. At the other end of the train car, she noticed a woman facing slightly away, but enough to where she couldn’t quite see a face. It couldn’t be... Lucy looked away not wanting to stare, but somehow... for some reason the woman was awfully familiar... looking exactly like Touka. Well, not exactly, but enough to make the hair on the back of her neck stand up. It was a blonde, with a different hair style— and that could always be changed. Similar body type, the facial side-profile features that Lucy could see resembled Touka...
Now despite being better, her anxieties still bubbled up from time to time, so she immediately switched to her coping techniques to calm them down. ‘You’re fine,’ Lucy talked herself through it, ‘no point in getting riled up.’ The woman hadn’t done so much as looked in her direction, so it must be okay. Contrary to popular belief, things like depression and anxiety never fully goes away, especially when someone has experienced a severe level of it. Those emotions and irrational thoughts are forever programmed into the brain, but there are ways to keep them at bay and Lucy’s successfully done just that for 15 years.
‘Just go back to what you were doing. Katsudon or nabe? And don’t forget you need to pick up milk...’ But, fifteen years... could Touka have been released by now? Lucy shook the thought away again. ‘Stop it! Everything is fine. It’s not her!’ The train was semi-full of passengers all minding their own business... including the woman. There was no reason to start panicking now. Lucy adjusts her position on her seat away from the woman’s direction. If she couldn’t see her, she could pretend she didn’t exist. ‘Maybe I should pick up ingredients for both, that way I don’t have to shop tomorrow.’ Lucy thought to herself, and with the kids with her, they could help in carrying the shopping bags. ‘Yeah, we’ve got a plan…’
After figuring out her shopping list, Lucy pulled up social media to keep herself distracted and for a few minutes it did the trick. Silly videos of entertainers never got old. The train reached the next stop and she felt it come to a stop. Since it wasn’t hers, she didn’t pay it any mind as she scrolled through her feed. But as the disembarking passengers funnel past Lucy, her eyes pick up on a pair of pink high-heels peeking from over the edge of her phone. Her body instantly stiffened up from the similarity to the ones worn by the woman, while her curiosity slowly got the better of her. ‘Breath, act nonchalant!’ Lucy’s eyes tracked the high-heels moving past her until they left her periphery. She then slowly sat back up, pretending to readjust her position, when she caught a pair of eyes looking back. Lucy’s breathing hitches with a shaky exhale. “Oh, my god—"
Standing at the doorway with one hand on the frame, the blonde woman smiled at Lucy then winked before stepping off the train.
It was Touka!

Author’s Note: Merry Christmas, everyone! Here’s a little gift from me to you 😌 I hope you like it! Let me know what you think in the comments below.
8 years later
Winter in DC was too cold. It had reached that time of year when the roads turned icy at the slightest humidity in the air, and it had already snowed at least twice since December began. Thankfully, the snow didn’t stick around very long; FBI agents were on-call 24/7. A double-edged sword, really. On one hand, it meant work was a great way to avoid problems. It was easier to forget. On the other hand, well, it was work.
“Six years in this city and it’s still so fucking cold,” Erin muttered to herself, shivering as her car warmed up. She buried her face into the scarf wrapped around her neck, trying to warm up. The warmth from the heated steering wheel seeped into her fingers, soothing the ache in her joints. She was supposed to meet Sachi at the bar for drinks. It had become a regular event in her weekly life; one night a week to go out and relax.
Some would’ve said that her promotion meant she could take more time off. That she could delegate a little more and take on a lighter workload as a result. But as a supervisor for the Operational Technologies branch, she had all the more reason to work more. Well, that’s what she convinced herself, at least.
Her friend and coworker, Sachi, was already seated at a table by the time she arrived. The bar was pretty busy, busier than the week before. It made sense; the holidays were always a time for friends and family to catch up on each other’s lives.
“Hi! Sorry I’m late, a meeting went overtime and I ran into some traffic on the way here,” Erin apologized, draping her wool coat over the back of her seat and sitting down. The next article to be shed was her scarf, which she kept piled on her lap. “Were you waiting long?”
“No, no worries,” her friend answered, shrugging. “I just got this table a couple minutes ago. Happy hour seems extra popular this week. How was the meeting?”
She rolled her eyes. “The usual; operations found some bugs in the new software and had some suggestions, so half of the developers will be working on that while the rest continue building our newest tool. How did your day go?”
“It was so slow, I don’t know which politician decided to choose yesterday to fuck up, but there were files everywhere,” Sachi groaned, rubbing her forehead tiredly. Her eyes landed on the sparkling gem on Erin’s hand. “I do have a question for you, though: why do you wear that ring?”
She raised a dark brow, then followed her line of sight to her hand. “Oh, this? It’s….it’s just something to keep the men away, that’s all. You know how they are.”
A curious head tilt. “I do, but are you sure that’s what you want? You deserve to find someone who makes you happy, Rin.”
Erin gave her a tight-lipped smile, twisting the metal band around her finger. It was a recent purchase; a gift to herself. A promise. A promise to remember. Even if he wasn’t hers to remember, at the end of the day.
“Is this still about that Marcus Pike guy?” Sachi asked, her voice softening as Erin avoided looking up. She reached across the table and covered her hand with hers. The glittering band of her own wedding ring seemed to mock her. “It’s been seven years since he went missing, Rin. You searched for him yourself; he’s gone.”
The news had broken just before Erin arrived in DC. Marcus Pike had gone missing, and there seemed to be no trace of him. His last known address was empty, his file had been wiped from all government databases, even his social media accounts were nonexistent.
One of the first things she did after her promotion was asking for a search squad. His number was still in her phone, but the number was no longer receiving calls. Even his email seemed to be deactivated, but it had existed before. There should’ve been a digital trail. It didn’t matter to her that it had been months since he was last seen–he was her best friend, and she wasn’t going to give up on him that easily.
Juggling her work with the investigation took its toll on her. Sleep eluded her, so she upped her coffee intake and spent countless hours off the clock. As a result, exhaustion settled in mid-day. Her work grew sloppy, obvious problems going untended and creating delays in operations.
The head of the department shut down her search after a year. He had cited it being a “waste of resources.” Maybe it was, to them. For such a large bureau with so many applicants, there was bound to be a replacement for Agent Pike. But even so, no one could replace Marcus.
“I know,” she replied softly. “I know. I’m trying, it’s just...I’ve spent years working for the FBI, and every time I stop to check the time, it’s like months have passed. And you know how my last relationship ended.”
She had been seeing a guy working for a tech startup, and at first it was great. The late nights and morning texts had been enough. But as time went on, and she became more immersed in her work following the election, her boyfriend grew restless. He wanted his girlfriend at home with him, preparing dinner and asking him about his day at the startup. Then he started the accusations. He accused her of cheating, of rubbing her success in his face.
Everything he said was false, but she had given up on trying to convince him. So she gave him a choice. He could leave if he wanted to, and there would be no hard feelings, just incompatibility. Or, he could stay, and she’d try to make more time for him. He chose the former.
“Oh come on,” Sachi reasoned, tapping the back of her hand. “You’re beautiful, smart, can kick ass. There has to be someone who’s into that.”
“Maybe,” Erin shrugged. Once upon a time, she had hoped she would meet someone like that. And in a way, she had. But at the end of the day,  she was a coward. She was a coward, and she paid the price for it.
They always said that time was money. In her case, the price she paid was high.
Sachi’s eyes lit up. “You know what? Why don’t you come to a holiday party I’m hosting? Maybe you’ll meet someone there.”
“Who’s going?”
“Some of our coworkers, some of my friends, and their friends, potentially,” she listed off, waving off her concern. “Nothing very special, in my opinion.”
A party would be nice. If not for the company, then for the food; and if not the food, then the drinks. Yes, the drinks. Drinks were good.
Erin conceded with a nervous grin. “Alright, but no meddling!”
“Yay!” she squealed. Then, her expression turned serious again. She pointed at the ring. “But whatever you do, don’t wear that.”
---
Sachi’s house looked like it was out of a movie. Tall and sparkling with lights, her home was the textbook picture of a family Christmas. There was even a wreath on the front door and a wooden sign with drawn-on snowflakes that welcomed the party guests.
The foyer was lined with emerald garlands and shimmering fairy lights, leading her further in towards the kitchen. From giant gold ornaments to wooden figurines, it seemed as if she had thought of everything.
When she reached the kitchen, there were already some guests gathered around the kitchen island. Platters of sweets and charcuterie boards were spread over the marble countertop, glistening in the soft light. The guests grazed from small plates as they greeted each other and raved about how great it was to finally catch up.
Perhaps she’d host her own holiday party someday. When she had the space, of course. The apartment that she’d chosen wasn’t the best for groups, and she wanted enough surface area for decorations. Her string of lights and small tree at home paled in comparison to the giant tree in Sachi’s living room.
The invite had specified a semi-formal dress code, so she chose a black off-the-shoulder dress that reached her knees. She paired it with some black heels and a white blazer draped over her shoulders for warmth. It wasn’t much, but it would do.
“Erin!” Sachi squealed, coming over to give her a hug. “I’m so glad you’re here. You’re right on time. Everyone else should be arriving soon.” She shooed her away. “Go have fun! And if you need a wingwoman, I’ve got your back.”
Erin shivered as Sachi swept off her jacket, the cool air brushing against her shoulders. Nevertheless, she smiled. “Thanks.”
“Of course!” she replied. The next thing she knew, a glass of champagne was tucked into her hand. “Now go!”
What Sachi had failed to tell her, though, was that she was going to be one of the only singles in the entire house.
Wherever she turned, she found couples congregated into circles where they could discuss...whatever couples discussed. Not wanting to barge in as a third, fifth, or seventh wheel, she stuck close to  the perimeter of the room.
Thankfully, she found an acquaintance from work who had also come to the party alone.
“Waiting for someone?” Ashley asked, sipping from a half-empty glass of wine. She was one of the receptionists for the technologies department. They’d spoken a couple times, but never much more than professional talk.
Erin shook her head and finished her third glass of champagne. Maybe she’d try the moscato next, just to change things up a little. The whole point of attending the party was to relax, right? So, she was trying to relax. “Just trying to loosen up. It’s been a while since I’ve gone to a party.” A soft laugh. “I can see why people like bringing a friend along. It would help a lot.”
“Why didn’t you, then?” At the lack of response, she sighed. “Is work still taking up a lot of time? You know you can take more time off.”
Yes, she knew. She’d heard it nearly a thousand times already. She knew she could take time off just like she knew she could forget about her past and move on. Part of her wanted to change, to move on as if nothing had happened. But after years of the same routine, and the same decisions coming back to bite her, it was hard to change.
“I know,” Erin replied, pressing a hand against her forehead. It was hotter than normal–did Sachi turn up the heating? She silently cursed her genetics; she’d probably have a fever later that night. “But as you know, there’s always more work to do. I signed up for this, so I need to do my job.”
“That doesn’t mean you can’t rest,” she reasoned, nudging her arm. “Are you still leading the search for that guy? Marcus Pike? I remember you were pretty involved with that.”
Maybe it was the exhaustion, maybe it was the alcohol. She gripped the glass a bit tighter. Her voice was clipped as she said, “No, I’m not. The search squad was disbanded years ago. We spent a year searching for him and there was nothing. There was nothing.” She swayed as she stood up, but quickly regained her balance. “I’m gonna….get another drink. Is there anything you want me to bring?”
“No thanks,” Ashley replied. Watching as Erin stumbled, she asked, “Are you sure you want another drink? Maybe you should take a break first.”
She waved her off. “I’m fine, don’t worry. It’s just the shoes.”
Yeah, right.
Erin’s turn around the corner was much too sharp, and her sluggish mind barely seemed to register the fact that she collided with a broad chest. Strong arms came up around her, holding her in place so she didn’t fall over. They were warm. Before she could stop herself, she splayed her hands on their chest, brows furrowed. What did Sachi put in there?
Then, she looked up and met the person’s eyes. Dark brown ones, to be exact. With a depth and sparkle that she hadn’t seen since Austin. Softly, she said, “M-Marcus?”
The man’s lips parting in shock. As Erin’s slightly-blurred gaze drifted down to his mouth, she frowned. No, it couldn’t be her Marcus; her Marcus didn’t have facial hair, nor did he wear glasses. He was handsome, though–just as handsome. And he was strong–she felt safer in his arms than she had in years.
“H-how do you know my name?”
His voice was similar, too, though a bit raspier.
She blinked. Then, it dawned on her; it wasn’t a dream. She really was at a party, in a dress pressed up against a very good-looking man who looked vaguely like her late best friend. It felt as if she had jumped into the snow without clothes on. She blushed and flinched away from him–as if she needed to be even redder–and said, “Sorry, you just look a bit like an old friend of mine. His name was also Marcus.”
It was her, Marcus realized. He would have recognized her voice anywhere, and when she looked up at him with those dark, green-flecked eyes, his years in Texas came rushing back to him. Part of him didn’t want to believe it. What was she doing in DC? And what were the chances that they’d meet again, with his changed identity?
Even so, she was as beautiful as he remembered, her smooth black hair styled into shining waves and her full lips painted a muted pink. In their time as friends, he rarely saw Erin out of her work clothes; a side effect of working for the FBI. Seeing her in a dress, and up close, against his chest felt like a dream. A dream that had plagued his mind for nearly a decade.
At the same time, she looked different. There was an air of exhaustion that clung to her just as tightly as her authority. Her eyes didn’t have the same bright sparkle that she had on her first day. He wondered if her smile was the same, and if she still took her coffee with two sugars and a splash of cream. If she still collected houseplants as if they were pets. If she was still the Erin he remembered.
The tugging in his chest pulled him towards her, and the old whisper of Marcus Pike urged him to tell the truth. To drop to his knees and beg for forgiveness. To tell her that he was sorry for leaving her, for dismissing her concerns about Lisbon. For disappearing without a trace. But Marcus Moreno, his new identity, his new life, knew it wouldn’t be fair to her.
So he introduced himself. A wave of relief washed over him as Erin giggled softly and shook his hand, telling him her name.
He’d missed her laugh, and the way the corners of her eyes crinkled just slightly when she was happy. He missed everything. He missed her.
“So,” she began, swaying a little. Her last drink was finally kicking in. Her brows furrowed in concentration. “How do you know, uh, Sachi?”
The little furrow of her brows was still adorable; he knew it only showed when she was thinking really hard. He just hoped she would remember their interaction in the morning. She rarely drank enough to get drunk, not wanting to bother with her body’s violent reaction to alcohol. Or so she told him.
“I’m a friend of her husband,” he replied, touching her arm softly as she swayed again. “Do you…do you want to sit down for a bit? We can keep talking, I just want to make sure you don’t get hurt.”
Erin hummed softly and nodded. “Yes, but don’t worry, I can handle a little fall.”
“I don’t doubt you can, Miss FBI.” Realizing his mistake, he cringed. So much for trying to have a fresh start. He guided her over to the table and pulled out a chair for her, making sure she was comfortable before sitting down in the seat next to her.
She frowned. “How do you know I work for the FBI?”
A pause. Then, he answered, “I overheard Sachi talking about you. You two seem to be pretty close.”
Drumming her fingertips on the table, she answered, “I guess so, yeah. She was one of my first friends after I moved here six years ago.” Her eyes glazed over with a tinge of sadness. “Time seems to be flying by very fast these days.”
Marcus sighed softly. “Yeah.” He offered her a smile that made her heart flutter. Or maybe that was just her stomach?  “I guess it’s up to us to make the most out of it, right?”
She nodded. Propping her head up against her hand, she replied, “Definitely. So, tell me about yourself, Marcus Moreno. I think you mentioned a daughter?”
He couldn’t help but smile at the mention of Missy. If there was anything he didn’t regret in the past few years, it was meeting his late wife and raising his baby. But the story of his wife could come later; for now, he wanted to tell his best friend about his little girl.

Since Volume 7 put her right at the center of the main plot, I've been thinking about the role Penny's played in the story so far. There was an instant friendship between her and Ruby because they have so much in common. She's always been a kind of foil for Ruby, in the sense that a lot of plot beats for Ruby are highlighted or foreshadowed by similar beats for Penny.
This ended up getting super long so the rest is under the cut.
Tumblr media
Right from the start, the very first scene Ruby and Penny have together starts with Ruby comparing herself to Penny. This line exists to highlight Ruby’s development: Ruby started out saying she prefers weapons to people, and tried to impress Weiss with her combat skills in the forest, because she figures that's what people value about her. By the end of Volume 1 when this scene happens, Ruby’s developed beyond that, then Penny shows up.
Tumblr media
And we find out she's even worse at dealing with people because she's never been allowed any friends. Her "combat ready" line has echoes of Ruby telling Weiss she's not just a kid, she’s ready to be a huntress. And she literally is a weapon - Ironwood really does only value only for her combat skills.
Tumblr media
In Volume 2, we find out that Penny was built to "save the world". It's obviously foreshadowing for the real plot - as far as Ruby knows at this point, the biggest threat to the world is Roman Torchwick. But we also know (through genre conventions if nothing else) that the saving the world is probably Ruby's job. She's the hero of the show. And sure enough that's exactly what we find out later - that Ruby also been destined to fight Salem since birth because of her silver eyes and connection via Summer.
Tumblr media
Ruby didn't want to be the chosen one - she just wanted to be a "normal girl with normal knees", but her silver eyes make that impossible. Nor did Penny choose to be the savior of Atlas - she really just wants to make friends and explore the world, and she considers running away and staying at Beacon. Penny's own death for her is equivalent to Pyrrha's death for Ruby - the traumatic event that proves she needs to follow her destiny.
Tumblr media
In Volume 7, Penny no longer disobeys Ironwood or shows any signs of wanting to leave. And amusingly, the biggest change to her new body is her rocket legs. It’s likely just a coincidence, but you could could say she literally lost her normal knees!
Tumblr media
Volume 7 is also where we see Ruby starting to suffer under the huge burden she's carrying. She's definitively the leader of the whole group now, after the events of Volume 6. She makes the decision to hide the truth from Ironwood by herself, and we see it eating at her throughout the season. But she puts on a brave face and keeps fighting - she's back on her feet within minutes of Salem getting in her head by mentioning Summer's death - because she's the leader. She doesn't have time to not be okay.
Tumblr media
And a lot of that has direct parallels in Penny's situation. Penny has been given a huge burden too - she’s the official protector of the entire city of Mantle. And she’s also deceiving the people who should be her allies, and she's uncomfortable with it - her reaction when Robyn calls her out on it shows us that. At this point we’re supposed to trust that Ironwood’s making the right decision. The show uses Penny lying to Robyn for the greater good to sell us on Ruby lying to Ironwood for the greater good.
(And if you want to get in really deep on this point, "Mantle" can mean "burden" or "responsibility", and Atlas itself is named after the mythological character who holds up the world on his shoulders - this entire arc is alluding to a story about crushing responsibility. And Penny becomes the Maiden, making her the key to the Vault and the Staff which holds up the city. So while Volume 7 is busy setting up Ruby to have the weight of the world on her shoulders, Penny ends up literally being the one keeping Atlas aloft).
Tumblr media
It's easy to make these kind of comparisons because it's something the characters themselves talk about. Starting with Ruby comparing her social awkwardness to Penny's in Volume 1, then with a couple of other moments throughout the early volumes: Penny's "if I were you..." line later in Volume 1 and the conversation about their respective teammates in Volume 3 come to mind.
The scene in the truck in V7C5 stands out too. Penny says she wishes she had time to have friends and do her job - of course, she isn't human to Ironwood, so he doesn't give her any time off. Ruby theoretically has more freedom than Penny, but she's still obliged to work and train 24/7. Ruby's "as normal as it gets" line makes sure we know this scene is just as much about Ruby's feelings as it is about Penny's.
Moving on to some speculation, I wonder if the way Penny's Volume 7 arc ended might give us some clues about what's next for Ruby.
Tumblr media
Penny becomes the maiden to protect Winter. Both literally to save her from Cinder in the moment, but also because she knows Salem will come for whoever has the powers. That moment seems like the one that's easiest to link to Ruby, because it's an act of heroic self-sacrifice.
Tumblr media
That's relevant because Volume 7 was full of references to Summer's self-sacrifice and how Ruby is now walking the same path. It's something that's been foreshadowed since Red Like Roses II, but this volume we saw Salem herself telling Ruby as much. We had Nora suggesting to Ruby that maybe only she can stop Salem. We had Qrow telling Ruby that Summer would've pressed on despite knowing that victory was impossible. And as a bonus, Ruby's new costume is inspired by Pyrrha's, whose own self-sacrifice is still weighing on her. Add that all up and it's easy to get worried about where Ruby's heading.
Tumblr media
But Penny's "personal feelings" moment comes first, and it's actually a more important moment for her character than getting the maiden powers. It's when she breaks free of Ironwood's control. Everything that happens after that is Penny's decision. She fights Cinder, saves Winter and accepts the maiden powers because it's what she wants to do. She ends the Volume leaving Atlas with the others, and (for a moment, at least) she escapes her destiny.
Tumblr media
The logical conclusion of Ruby following Summer's path is that she makes the same sacrifice. She goes off to face Salem alone, leaving her team in the dark to protect them. That's not going to happen: It'd be a really unsatisfying ending, for one thing, but (if you accept Red Like Roses lyrics as canon) we also know Qrow was wrong about Summer. She regretted her decision and hoped Ruby didn't do the same thing. Ruby was always going to succeed where Summer didn't.
So maybe Ruby needs a "personal feelings" moment where she escapes her destiny too. She needs to realize she's worth more than what she can give to other people - which is a line I stole from She-Ra, because I think there's some similarities between where Ruby's heading and Adora's hero complex. So much so that I drew that comic about it.
Anyway, this post is long enough now. Whatever happens next, Ruby and Penny's friendship is going to continue to be very important, and I'm curious to see if these parallels continue in Volume 8.

Okay, I need want to learn some stuff about Farid, so.... buckle up 💛
(Ask 1/3)
7, 12, 21, 24, 44, 47
My Muggle cinnamon roll!! X3 These are going to be fun! 💛
Tumblr media
7. Why SHOULDN’T you trust them?
Hm, honestly? Farid is a pretty trustworthy guy. He doesn't like lying and he isn't the sort to just tell people what they want to hear. Even though he's sensitive enough to not want to hurt people's feelings, he's more likely to just stammer into oblivion, walk away, or not really answer the question, rather than out-right lie. I think the only occasion where you wouldn't be able to trust Farid would be in a situation where you can't trust his judgement -- as in, he's gotten an idea locked in his head and is too goddamn stubborn to listen to reason. When he decides he's going to try to find a way to safely handle a dementor without destroying it even if he doesn't have magic, he's going to do it, and you shouldn't trust him when he tells you to trust him that everything's going to be okay and that you shouldn't worry about him.
12. What do they look for in a friend?
Farid's first real friend in the world (outside of his brother, Malik) was Fawkes the phoenix, and what touched Farid so deeply was that Fawkes -- after Farid helped him -- didn't just fly away and never come back, but instead stayed. And that remains what Farid loves most in his friends -- that kind of loyalty and devotion. He cherishes people who won't just take and take from him, but instead appreciate what he does for them and will be there for him when he needs them too. He also loves finding people who enjoy things that he does, like creatures, medicine, reading, drawing, and cooking, and will be willing to have long conversations with him about their interests. He loves hearing people talk about what they're passionate about.
21. How do they feel about the ‘supernatural’? Do they believe in it? Think it’s total BS? Are they way too superstitious? Or do they have more of a “if ghosts kill me while I break into this haunted house, at least it’ll be funny” vibe?
Islamic writings do discuss witchcraft and the evil eye as if it's a real thing, but they preach that faith in God should be one's sole defense against such things. Farid was never particularly opposed to the idea that ghosts might exist, but even before joining the Wizarding World, he was never particularly scared of them. If anything, he was more likely to pity their poor lot in -- well, "after-life." When Farid discovered there were real-life ghosts, he almost immediately treated them the way he would any other magical creature -- namely, with a lot of respect and caring -- particularly considering how many of them seemed very unhappy with their circumstances. I headcanon that Farid is actually one of the very few living people who the Grey Lady likes enough to actually voluntarily spend time with -- he sometimes reads poetry aloud for her to make her smile, since she can no longer pick up a book on her own.
24. Describe their handwriting.
Farid's writing is made up of many tiny, flowing, rounded letters. He can pack way more words onto one page than most people, but the letters of each word all seem to connect and touch each other, making an oddly artistic effect where it almost looks like a loose kind of calligraphy. He also doesn't tend to press down hard when he writes or draws, instead preferring a very light grip on his pencils and pens, more like he's painting with a paintbrush than chiseling words into the page.
44. What are they most confident about? (appearance, skill, etc)
Farid eventually becomes very confident in his ability to handle different creatures, magical or not. His confidence is shaken somewhat when he fails to safely deal with a dementor, which results in him losing an eye and almost losing Fawkes to the Dementor's Kiss. With a lot of reflection and support from his loved ones, Farid overcomes that stumble and is able to move beyond it.
47. What’s their favourite weather? How about their least favourite?
Farid loves when it snows most of all, but he also really enjoys the rain. There's nothing quite like watching the rain and smelling it in the air. He likes when it's sunny and clear too, though. About the only weather Farid would actively dislike would be anything really extreme or dangerous, like hot and dry as a desert or cold and snowing to point of it being a snowstorm.

OBSESSIVE TEACHINGS MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"YOU REALIZE IT'S A SERIOUS problem at this point, right?"
"At least it's not crack."
The two familiar voices catch both mine and Gabe's attention. With the doors open, legs sprawled out wherever they're comfy, and some early 2000s alternative music jamming from the speakers, we genuinely look like high school delinquents. All we're missing is a cigarette hanging from our lips.
My back aches as I pry my upper half to sit up straight, a chorus of popping following my movement. I brightly grin at River and Ellie and my feet reach the black pavement. It appears Ellie just rolled her eyes at River's sassy remark. I begin to ask what they were talking about before I notice something being shoved back in the boy's backpack: his new Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber. Part of me isn't surprised, but the other half is wondering what reason he has to carry it around at school. Regardless of the reason, we all have our quirks: it took me until the eighth grade to leave my replica of Harry Potter's wand at home.
Geeky things, I guess?
I can only guess what River was telling Ellie when it comes to his devotion to Star Wars. There isn't an existing number to count how often River and I find ourselves on the topic of space battles and the Skywalkers.
"What's up, friendos?" I ask as they draw closer. A sudden chilly breeze lifts my hair and bumps along my skin. It's almost a frustrating sensation, it being the middle of August. It looks like I'm the only one who feels it, as my teeth are the only ones that chatter. Since my arms are tightly holding each other, I barely have time to react to Ellie's next reaction.
Ellie drags her feet dramatically until she goes limp in my arms. "I wanna go home and sleep."
I stumble back at the weight added, wriggling my arms to hold her steady. The last thing I need on the first day of school is a concussion. "Christ— well maybe if you get off, we can take you home."
River piles his backpack into the back of Gabe's truck, the loud thump startling Ellie, and looks at us with a confused stare. "Weren't– Weren't we supposed to hang out today?"
The girl in my arms rises to her feet, groaning. "Shit, I forgot. My mom said she wants me back home after school as soon as possible. You know, groundings and all."
"Next time, don't get into an accident." Gabe sends her a smirk.
Ellie narrows her eyes and mocks his response, crossing her arms and leaning on one leg. A small chortle parts my lips as I lean up against the truck next to River. After her bickering, Ellie continues. "Go get ice cream or something in my memory. I just have to get back before I'm killed, which should be any day now."
"I call your funeral playlist," I reply. Looking up while my fingers stroke my chin comically, I add, "A ton of 80s pop with a dash of Gaga?"
Booping my nose, Ellie smiles. "You know me too well."
We all file into Gabe's small truck— well, almost all of us. Since the truck is a three-seater and police like to patrol this area, there is always a sacrifice who gets to claim the back of the car. This time, it happens to be me. Once I was lying flat on my back, a blue tarp was pulled over my body, coming right above my nose. Oh, the perks of old, short pick-up trucks roaming a town with endless police...
Sliding open the window, Gabe's voice calls out. "You good back there?"
"Yeah, I'm fucking peachy," I reply.
There's the sound of laughter before the engine kicks on. At that moment, my paranoia starts to kick in, starting with my heart beating fast in my chest and palms getting sweaty. Not once have any of us gotten caught, but I can't help but think the day we are, it's my ass going to jail. I've never bothered to look at the laws relating to seat belts in other states, but here, the law is highly enforced. Not only would I get fined and definitely put into a cell, but I have no doubt Gabe would endure the same fate.
Nice way to put yourself in one of these states, I chastise myself.
I almost groan, but I can't be sure if I'll cause one of the friends up front to worry. So, I exhale and inhale rhythmically like I was taught. Looking straight ahead, all I can see are blue skies and puffy white clouds. Occasionally, a tree or two will enter the scenery. I'm barely blinking as I try to put shapes to the clouds, some more impossible than others. Despite having an imaginative mind, the figures aren't creating a picture for me to follow.
I like to remember how easy it was as a child to create something out of nothing. An empty napkin roll wasn't just cardboard; it was a telescope that needed color. Our dolls weren't acting on our behalf; they were doing it themselves and showing us their lives. Every cloud wasn't just a random array of water droplets but rather, a visual story to be told. I want to know what causes all of us to lose that form of innocence. Ways of thinking like pessimism or optimism, that's easy: once too many shitty things start to happen more than the good, one is likely to form a biased view or vice versa. But, why do we stop playing with imaginary friends? Or act out intense battles on the playground? Even the smallest blip of innocence, like cloud-watching, becomes warped.
Sometimes, it's easy to pick out that moment in our own lives where we find ourselves becoming grown-ups and leaving childhood behind, but the shitty part is that it isn't just me or Ellie, River, or Gabe who go through trials. It's not just the kid who loses a parent or the girl who was taken advantage of. Everyone has their wars. And in the end, we lose, becoming a part of the system that inflicts these damages.
These damages I speak of tear us apart. They mold us into shapes beyond recognition. No longer a funny shape or a distorted animal in the sky, but dark, heavy, and so close to bursting. And when we finally let go, after all the waiting and rolling, we seem to explode, leaking and oozing our pain, our torment, us. And when it's over? What's left? I guess there are two options: remain on the ground to seep into further nothingness, or rise once more, only to break again, again, and again. But life is such torment and full of trials, is it not?
Funny how staring at a cloud can put life into perspective.
My brain is overrun by these thoughts that I don't even realize Gabe's truck is rolling to a stop. I finally take notice when car doors swing open then shut.
"Wake up, sleeping beauty," River says leaning over the side of the truck to get a look at me.
Rolling my eyes with a grin, I swat at his shoulder, which misses as he recoils. "Shut up, loser." I sit up, tossing the tarp to the side as I move to stand. River smirks and offers his hands to help me down. Without hesitation I take them, swinging one leg over the side and the other following before I made a short leap to the ground. Because neither of us apparently can avoid embarrassment, we're both holding each other's hands after I land. A rosy blush spreads across his entire face— no doubt mine as well— before I take the initiative to lean backwards, focusing on Ellie who crawls from the side door.
"Speaking of losers," Gabe sighs. I can't help but feel the reddening in my cheeks, assuming this asshole is talking about River and me, but I notice he's looking at Ellie, now swinging her backpack around one shoulder in her driveway.
She notices that all of us are looking, causing her to freeze. "Why does everyone hate me today?"
I smile bringing her into a goofy hug. "We just miss you. Don't get into any more accidents, please?"
"Yeah, yeah," she snorts, hugging me back to the best of her ability, considering I have her arms pinned down at an odd angle. "Alright, leave my driveway before I actually get you guys killed."
Gabe, River, and I say our goodbyes before filing into the white truck, heading God-knows-where as a worn-down engine sparks to life. Looking over at River, who sits to my right in the passenger seat, I send him a glare that he doesn't see since his eyes are focused on what lies beyond the window— or lack thereof.
While his hair barely covers his neck, mine flows down to my mid-back, meaning having windows rolled all the way down and speeding down a highway won't lead to the best outcomes for my hair. But I can't complain too much: River's hair going crazy in the wind is both cute and a bit funny. A small smile graces my features before a thin lock of hair enters my lips.
Glancing over at the driver, I notice how only locks of hair toward the ends move slowly despite the windows rolled all the way down, as if the strands are wearing a shield against the wind. I wonder how Gabriel keeps his hair so still before making the dumbfounding realization that he wears that beanie 24/7 and who knows how long he goes without washing his perfect hair. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen the boy without the hat. I guarantee no one would recognize him without it.
"So, where are we heading?" Gabriel asks when we reach the stoplight before entering the populated part of town.
I exhale, leaning my head on the headrest of the seat. "Well, I for one could go for something frozen. Maybe a burger, too."
"Didn't you just eat lunch?" River asks, humorously smiling in my direction.
"And had coffee literally less than an hour ago," Gabe adds.
Sending a blank look to River (whose smile widens) then over to Gabe, his eyes never leaving the stretch of road ahead of him (at least one person in the group can do that), I huff, my eyes shutting closed and I bring my shoulders up into a shrug. "I don't know what you both have against me and my food and drink consumption, but you better knock it off."
There's a small hum of laughter to my right, sending a slight shiver down my neck. "If we left you alone for a week, there's no telling how much you'd put in your system," River tells me as if I don't know that already.
"Yeah, yeah. Alright, Bob and Jillian, I don't need you to berate me."
══════════════════
Twenty minutes later, the three of us find ourselves outside a burger joint. In one hand, I have a burger waiting to be devoured and in the other is a frozen strawberry lemonade. Nothing says summer like this combination. We're sitting the parking lot eating our meals, more specifically in the back of the truck. From my phone, I have a playlist plainly called "Chill" playing from the nearly-blown speakers.
"I never thought food could taste so good," I moan as the burger slides down my throat.
"You're acting like you haven't eaten in a week."
Sending Gabe an eye-roll, I reply, "It might as well have been."
There's a moment of silence before River brings up a topic not discussed in a couple weeks. "Do you guys wanna come over and jam for a bit sometime this week? We haven't done anything in a while."
One summer a few years back, the trio of us learned we can play different instruments. I have been playing the guitar and drums since I was younger, thanks to a musically gifted grandfather. Gabe and River both had a knack for guitar too, though Gabe had more experience with the bass guitar and River had some training with piano. While our jam sessions are nothing too serious, as none of us want to be in a band or write our own songs, it's become a fun and stress-reducing way to hang out when silence would otherwise fill the atmosphere. The last time, we figured out how to play the theme songs of our favorite movies using a ukulele and bongos. It was something I didn't need to hear, but I'm glad I did.
I nod my head. "Yeah, we can this weekend if we aren't being drowned in homework by that point."
Gabe also agrees with a nod, his mouth full of fries. "It's a maybe from me: Mom might need to borrow the truck since hers is wearing down."
River turns his dark brown eyes over to me, capturing an embarrassing scene as lettuce pokes between my stuffed lips. Great. "Well, I guess I can hang out with you if someone can't show."
While I playfully punch his arm, I send a look over to Gabe who hides a smirk in his straw. He catches me looking as River goes on about one of his classes. Sending me a wink, I narrow my eyes knowingly: his mom just got a brand new truck. Mr. Matchmaker goes back to this food, making a statement on how hot River's finance teacher is, causing the boy to make a very uncomfortable face.
Despite the long talks we shared in the back of Gabe's truck, I find myself zoning out hardcore once again. I can't figure out why exactly my mind had wondered, but I do know where. My thoughts go back to Trinity's face, remembering how she would sit next to me against the side of the truck the very few times she decided to make time for my friends. There's a ghost of warmth in my palm like fingers squeezing when the short snippet of a memory expels from deep inside my mind. I don't know why I thought of it. It just appeared, causing a droplet of woe to fill my gut.
Like my friends have told me before, I need to let this go. There's no use in holding on to something, or rather someone who isn't coming back, especially someone who was never good for me in the first place. Glancing up, I spy on River munching and talking with Gabe. A blush covers my cheeks when I remember how utterly embarrassing it was when I broke down in front of him over a stupid girl. He told me there are worse things to worry about.
"Like climate change?" I asked, sniffling into a pillow. I hope he washed it after that encounter. Hell, he needed to lysol everything down after my mopey ass walked through the place.
River smiled warmly at me, pulling me into a giant bear hug. Sometimes, I want to ask for one of those hugs again. "I was going to say people who like pineapple on pizza, but climate change is also a concern."
I remember crying not a second later, but that was due to the thought of polar bears facing extinction.
Contrary to knowing how wonderful my three best friends are, I'm also aware that there are certain things I can't share. I don't want to overbear them with my problems that should have been solved months ago. The fact that I'm still getting small flashbacks and thoughts of her is pathetic, and I'm aware of that fact. On the other hand, it isn't like my group of friends will give up and leave if I spill my guts, right? I shouldn't be scared of expression my thoughts, feelings, and emotions to my closest friends. And yet, here I sit, undecided on what to do.
Christ, do I need to get my priorities straight.
When my eyes break away from their trance, all I see is Gabe and River entering a heated discussion, about what I'm not sure. With my thoughts still in a bit of limbo, I'm shocked back to reality when they both leap from either side of the vehicle, rushing to pull items from their bags.
Under any other normal circumstance, it would be concerning to see two dudes arguing one moment then reaching into their bags the next. I'm willing to bet the next logical calculation for a stranger would have been to get away, fearing the queue for guns or knives. But I know these losers. Even if they are fighting or wanting to kill each other, there is only one way they can settle their differences.
"Soon, you will see the way of the Jedi," River exclaims while thrashing his blue lightsaber through the air.
"Shut the fuck up, you nerd!" Gabe flicks out a red lightsaber, taunting the other.
"Oh, my God," I say with no emotion in my tone, watching as red and blue shamelessly slash at each other in battery-produced light in a burger joint parking lot.

To your anon asking about TTB promises. She promised no second wedding, no male pronouns or male love interests on Lover, a coming out, Karlie leaving in August, no Josh at holidays, no way they go to awards, absolutely would she not include him in her documentary because it woul be about coming out. The list is rather long. The truth is people left over stopped calling her out on always being wrong. And every month for the last 2 years dont worry, its almost over the girls are fine.
Wow. Great memory.
Let’s list all of TTBs lies, promises and predictions that never came true. For posterity.
TTB promised there would be:
1. No Joshlie wedding. At all. And no second Joshlie wedding. (Both happened!)
- in fact the plan, according to TTB was: to gently introduce Kaylor to the public.
- announce engagement > call off engagement > have Taylor be seen providing emotional support to a heartbroken Karlie > after a while, explain that spending time together amid this upset made them realize they were more than just friends!
Oops. Never happened.
2. No male pronouns on Lover (several songs with male pronouns!)
3. No male love interests on Lover (clearly a male interest in Lover. And no, London Boy isn’t satire. It’s tongue in cheek)
4. Karlie being “free” in August each and every year. (and many, many more times)
5. No Josh at holidays.
(Yet somehow they seem to be together for thanksgiving and NYE and several Jewish holidays every single year.)
6. Joe and Taylor not attending awards shows together (so far they’ve attended: Golden Globes, Cats premiere, and NME awards)
7. Joe not being included in the documentary (Taylor literally runs into his arms backstage)
8. The documentary would be about Taylor coming out
I remember (and edited to add other peoples recollections)
9. Taylor was supposed to come out after Rep tour was over.
10. Taylor was supposed to come out the day she announced her new single “ME!” In fact, the announcement was meant to be her coming out, but instead was her new single.
11. Joe would be gone before Rep Tour
12. Joe would be gone after Rep Tour.
13. Joe would be gone before Lover Promo
14. Joe would be gone after Lover release.
15. Karlie would be free from Josh literally too many times to count. She always says that the contract is up in August. Then she says Karlie re-ups.
16. Taylor was going to come out on the last day of Pride month but scrapped those plans and instead released her statement about Scooter and Scott. That the masters changed everything so she couldn’t come out.
Now, had she intended to come out, and changed her mind that very last day upon learning of the master sales, she would’ve had to:
- add 4 new songs about a male
- chang all pronouns on lover from “her” to “him”
- remanufacturing every copy (how many DNAs did that need)
- create and chang diary entries
- all this would’ve had to be done whiles Taylor spent the first week of July with her friends on vacation. And while Karlie was on a yacht with Scooter, posting several instagrams documenting it.
- Then she went straight into filming ‘Lover’ video with a man. All this in a matter of a week or two, while on vacation, right before Lover came out. (Thanks to the anon for help!)
17. She claimed Karlie never followed Joe, when in fact, she did after K’s Rep concert. A week later, she unfollowed him. Also her sisters and Josh unfollowed Taylor in that same time frame.
18. She claims that when a beard wears blue, a breakup will occur and Taylor will be free of her contract. That Taylor plans it this way. TTB has said the inevitable breakup is going to happen when Joe wears blue numerous times yet this has never come to fruition.
19. Any time there is an article about Joshlie or Joe and Taylor, ttb claims its ALWAYS “seeding” a breakup. Yet, the breakup never, ever comes. (And no one in entertainment uses the phrase “seeding”. That’s a pure conspiracy theorist term. Like “crisis actor”).
20. She once promised a nervous anon that Josh and Karlie would never actually marry. They’d only be faux engaged to make it all seem real.
21. Claimed that Karlie and Josh didn’t go to New Zealand together over the New Year. Said Josh went alone and Karlie only flew in one day to take all the pics with him- in multiple clothing changes- to get all the pics necessary for the “stunt”. Even though everyone outside of Kaylorland already believes they’re a married couple and the “stunt” got zero publicity.
22. TTB claimed many times no beard would ever attend an important event or red carpet with Taylor. Then Joe went to the Golden Globes with her, then the Cats premiere, and then the NME awards. Oops! Wrong each and every time.
23. When Joe and Taylor vacationed in the Turks and Caicos TTB claimed Joe was flown in for a quick photoshoot and flown right back out. Except the next day, he was still there and there were new pictures.
24. Claimed for MONTHS after the Joshlie wedding that it was a “photoshoot”, not a wedding. That it would soon show up in Vogue. Then it was Vogue Brazil. (The wedding was never in a magazine)
25. She also claimed it was all a giant ad for Dior. The photoshoot would be one big advertisement for Dior. (The wedding was never an ad anywhere for Dior)
26. After several Vogue magazines came and went after, TTB claimed that Josh was having the article and photoshoot put on hold so that they could release it at a time that Trump made a big gaffe and Josh would need good press. The idea being that if Trump messes up, this somehow reflects badly on Josh, though it never has.
27. TTB and Kaylors claim that the reason why Karlie and Taylor stopped hanging out in public was so as not to tarnish Taylor’s reputation by being associated with Trump. Yet, Kelle went backstage at Rep after Trump was elected.
Anyone who knows about magazines or has seen the documentary The September Issue knows that the magazine layout is planned months in advance and articles and photo shoots are put in in a timely manner. Someone like Josh would have no bearing on getting to hold it back. (The wedding never showed up in any magazine and Trump made gaffes constantly).
28. TTB also claimed that they were no longer being seen in public anymore so that the public would start to ask and wonder why they weren’t “friends” anymore. Which would “seed” a coming out story.
29. Ttb claims she’ll have definitive proof this Monday, 9/7/20/, in the form of “tea” she’s been dangling in front of her followers for months now, that will prove the existence of Kaylor.
And she posted a submission that proved absolutely nothing! Just a screenshot of Karlies insta story from May that shows the reflection of one open white umbrella and one closed white umbrella. Apparently Taylor has two white umbrella near her pool in Beverly Hills. Ttb believes this is definitive proof that Karlie and Taykor have been together in LA for months.
This was wholly underwhelming and easily disputable. Taylor’s jet has been in Utah, with Joe posting a few pics of him hiking there. Her jet has also been in RI. Then the jet went to England. While the jet doesn’t prove Taylor wasn’t in BH the whole time, it sure does make it much more likely than a reflection in glass of an umbrella.
30 TTB claims that josh posted an Instagram on 9/3 of a sunset to indicate the sun setting on his relationship with Karlie. A message sent to Kaylors. No divorce as of yet!
31. Going along with the above, TTB also claimed that she expects Joshlie to announce their divorce on 9/4/20 because it’s the slowest in the news cycle. A Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend. Yet, no divorce news and Trump calling fallen soldiers “lovers and suckers” is dominating the headlines.
32. Prior to the Kushner biography being released TTB predicted/promised that it would mention Josh’s homosexual proclivities in some way: the bearding or Mikey. And at the very least, it would paint him to be the giant criminal that she claims he is.
Instead it did nothing of the sort. It only talked about how strong his love for Karlie was. That despite his parents being unkind and unaccepting to her for several years, he stuck it out with her. It also addressed her conversion to Judaism.
33. Ttb likes to claim that Karlie never converted to Judaism. She says that because Karlie has never spoken the exact words “I converted” that it means she hasn’t. Despite the fact that many Jewish people have told her that when Karlie told Andy Cohen that she “joined the tribe” that, was, in fact, how Jewish people say they converted.
Karlie has also spoken at length in interviews and her own musings about her conversion. Ttb still refutes this and sometimes will post anons who write in questionable and anti Semitic references.
34. There was a period of time where TTB claimed that Josh needed Karlie as a beard in order to get an inheritance from an old aunt of his. This aunt stipulated in their will that he MUST be married to a woman in order to collect the money. Shockingly (to no one) TTB started claiming this right after josh and Karlie got married.
A few months later, the aunt and the inheritance disappeared never to be spoken of again. Which was absurd to begin with considering Josh is reportedly worth $800 million. Which could be off considerably, but even if it is? Even if he’s only worth $100 million? Yeah, he’s good. He doesn’t need an aunts inheritance.
35. These days (September of 2020) TTB is claiming that Karlie is staying with Josh in the contact for bearding willingly. This is a drastic change of narrative from years past when she claimed he was essentially blackmailing her to stay. For the Aunt inheritance, for not telling the world her and Taylor’s secrets, etc.
**** this hasn’t been updated in a few months. It’s now Dec. 1st. I’ll do my best to fill in a couple more below soon. There’s been a handful or two of lies that need to be recorded.****
36. People Mag announces that sources close to Karlie say she’s pregnant with Josh’s kid. Ttb refuses to believe it until Karlie herself confirms it, though in the past she has specifically stated that People is the one mag you can trust as publicists use it as a vehicle to get the truth out about their client.
36. Ttb stated emphatically and multiple times that IF Karlie is pregnant it CANNOT be a Kaylor baby because it would not tarnished by having a Kushner last name and being tied to that “organized crime” family. Nope. Taylor is in no way involved.
And now that Karlie has confirmed the pregnancy, what do uou know? Ttb conveniently changes her time, forgets all she’s said in the past and seems to be firmly on the “oh, it’s totally a Karlie/Tayklor baby. I thought so all along”.
Now, Karlie is there willingly. And when an anon asked whyC her answer was “it’s all part of the narrative.” As if that’s a sufficient answer.
37. TTB said Joe and Taylor’s career paths would never intertwine.
And now they’ve written 5 songs together. One on which he played the piano too.
There’s a lot more especially about Karlies pregnancy but I don’t have the time or energy to fill it in right now. Back soon to do it.
Anyone else remember anything specific? Let’s come up with a comprehensive list.

MASTERLIST
You felt yourself shiver as the cold winter air blew around you. The black jacket you had on was barely doing its job. Once again, you found yourself here. Everyday for a week, you would come here for hours and hours. The snow and quiet, being the only thing that gave you peace.
“Y/n?” You heard a voice call out to you softly.
Turning your head, you saw Jihyo walking towards you, carrying an umbrella to shield herself from the snow.
"Jihyo? What are you doing here?” You question.
“I was worried about you. Y/n, you can’t keep doing this to yourself, you know he wouldn’t want you to.”
“I know,” You whisper, feeling tears begin to pool in your eyes.
“Here,” She states while pulling out a pack of hand warmers.
“Thank you.”
“Have you eaten today?”
“No,” You say, getting ready to hear her scold you.
“Y/n,” She sighs.
“I know, I know. I just haven’t been hungry,” You defend, avoiding her worried eyes.
“How are you doing?” She asks while positioning the umbrella so the two of you were covered from the snow.
“I’m doing fine,” You choke out while trying to hold back your tears.
“No one is expecting you to be alright 24/7 Y/n. It’s okay to not be fine,” She says softly while also tearing up.
“If I cry, it’ll just make things more real.”
All of a sudden, Jihyo pulls you into a hug. Not being able to hold them in any longer, you began to cry into Jihyo’s shoulder, grasping onto her like your life depended on it.
“Shhh, shhh, it’s going to be okay,” Jihyo comforts while stroking your hair. You hear her sniffle as she begins crying with you.
“It hurts, it hurts so fucking much,” You cry out.
“I know it does, just let it out,” She encourages, her voice equally as shaky as yours. The two of you stay in each other's arms for what seems like hours. After calming down a bit, you finally pull away.
“I can’t believe he’s actually gone,” you whisper.
”I know it’s only been a week but why does it feel like he’s been gone for years?” Jihyo questions while shaking her head, feeling a fresh batch of tears forming.
“I miss him, I miss him so damn much.”
Jihyo hums in agreement.
“I wish we would go back in time to when we were in high school. When we were young and had no cares in the world,” you state, thinking back to the old days.
“Do you remember the first time you met him? What were we, 16?” She questioned, laughing a little at the memory. You felt yourself smile for the first time in a while as you thought back to that day.
“Jihyo, wait up!” You yell as you rush to catch up to the girl in front of you.
“Hurry up, we’re gonna be late!” She calls back, not slowing down at all.
The two of you were doing your usual routine of walking to school. Only today, you had overslept so you were running a little late. Putting more pep in your step, you quickly catch up to your friend.
“If we’re late, I’m going to end you,” Jihyo told you while shaking her head.
“Just tell Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung to cover for us or something,” you wheeze, out of breath from how fast you both were walking.
“Whatever,” She mumbles out while picking up her pace. After about five minuets, you arrive at school.
“Ten minutes to spare! See, I told you we wouldn’t be late,” you remarked while bumping into Jihyo.
“You’re lucky we weren’t.”
“Oh you wouldn’t have-”
All of a sudden, you felt your body run into something hard and you fell flat on the ground.
“Oh I’m so sorry! Are you alright?” You heard a voice call out.
“Yeah, yeah I’m, woah, you’re hot,” You breathe out once you see the dreamy stranger who you ran into, causing him to laugh.
“I mean I’m fine! Um sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going,” You apologize while bowing your head.
“Ah don’t apologize, it was my fault! I’m Bang Chan,” he introduces himself with a big smile as he stuck his hand out.
“Y/n,” you say while extending your hand to shake his.
“Chan, hurry up mate!” A deep voice suddenly calls out.
“Calm down Felix, I’m coming,” he laughs out before directing his attention back to you, “well it was nice meeting you. Sorry again, hopefully I’ll see you around!”
And with that, he was gone.
“Woah, you’re hot,”Jihyo mocked, causing you to slap her playfully.
“Oh shut up, we’re gonna be late.”
“I wish you could have seen your face when you first saw him. It was priceless! I’ve never seen you blush so hard.”
“He was hot and I was a horny teenager, what do you expect?” You joke, causing Jihyo to laugh.
“You know, he never let me live that down,” You add.
“That doesn’t surprise me.”
“Oh remember the time when we were at lunch and he came over asking us to go to that party at Hyunjin’s house,” You bring up, cringing at the memory.
“Oh my god, how could I forget,” She gasps while trying to hold in her laughter.
“Sana get off,” Tzuyu complained while shoving the smaller girl off of her.
“Just let me love you,” Sana sang while trying to kiss Tzuyu’s cheek.
“Get a room you two,” Jihyo jokes while throwing a carrot at them.
“Now, back to what I was saying before I was rudely interrupted,” Dahyun states while glaring at Sana, Jihyo, and Tzuyu. You drowned them all out as you were lost in thought. Ever since that day in the hallway, you couldn’t stop running into Chan. It was like now that you knew he existed, he was everywhere. At first, you tried to avoid him at all cost but after a while, the two of you began to talk. It wasn’t anything deep but still, talking to him was definitely the highlight of your days. You were currently scanning the lunch room for the 100th time looking for Mr. Dimples.
“Y/n are you even listening to my story?”
“What? Uh sorry, what were you saying?”
“Don’t mind her guys, she’s just in love,” Jihyo teased.
“Jihyo you weren’t supposed to say anything,” You whined.
“Our little y/n is in love?” Nayeon gasped out.
“Who’s the lucky guy? Or girl, we don’t judge,” Momo stated, leaning in closer to you.
“It’s umm, ᵇᵃⁿᵍ ᶜʰᵃⁿ,” You mumbled out.
“Y/n,” All the girls groan out.
“It doesn’t even matter,” You say, feeling your cheeks grow red.
“IT’S BANG CHAN SHE LIKES BANG CHAN!” Jihyo yells at the top of her lungs, catching most of the cafeteria's attention.
“Oh my god Jihyo,” You gasp, looking around the room.
“Oh my gosh you like Chan?” Sana gushes with a huge smile on her face.
“Awww that’s so cute,” Chaeyoung adds on.
“I wouldn’t even say I like him, I’m just infatuated with him,” You defend.
“How do you even know him? Do you have a class with him?” Momo asks.
“No, I just ran into him by accident in the hallway. I see him around occasionally but that’s it.”
“Oh my gosh, I wish you guys were there! It was so funny, she called him hot,” Jihyo said, causing you to turn as red as a tomato.
“Jihyo stoooop.”
“You called him hot?” Jeongyeon laughed out.
“Guys, guys, he’s coming walking over here,” Mina squeals, causing all the girls to freak out.
“Are you fucking with me,” You question, mentally freaking out.
“I’m being deadass,” Mina states.
“Oh my god,” You whisper to yourself, putting your face in your hands.
“Hey girls,” You hear Chan’s cheery voice greet your table. Everyone greets him back, well everyone except you. To say you were modified would be an understatement.
“Hey y/n,” Chan calls out, causing you to look up at him with a tight smile on your face.
“Heyyyyy.”
“I umm, I couldn’t help but overhear Jihyo say someone likes me?”
“No she didn’t!” You rush out before any of the other girls could answer.
Real smooth, that definitely makes you look less suspicious.
“Y/n that was such a funny joke,” Nayeon says while fake laughing, “Jihyo definitely said someone at this table likes you.”
You stared at her with wide eyes, feeling betrayed. You looked at Jeongyeon with pleading eyes which caused her to sigh.
“Nayeon, don’t lie to Chan! Jihyo never said that,” She says with a forced smile on her face.
“Well, hypothetically speaking if someone does like me at this table, and it’s the someone I think it is, I hope they know that I, again, hypothetically speaking, like them to,” Chan says while looking directly at you.
“Anyway, my friends and I are throwing a party on Friday if you wanna come! It’s gonna be at Hyunjins house, I’ll text Sana his address. You don’t have to if you don’t want to but umm it would be really cool if you all came.”
“Oh we’ll be there,” Sana says with a huge smile.
“Okay awesome! I’ll see you guys later!” Chan said, clearly excited.
Waiting until he walked away, all the girls began to freak out.
“Oh my god y/n!!!”
“He soooo likes you!”
“He literally just said that dummy!”
“Our little y/n is growing up!”
“Will you all be quiet!” You yell, growing embarrassed.
“Jeongyeon I can’t believe you told him Jihyo didn’t say that,” Nayeon scolded.
“That’s why Jeongyeon is my favorite yeon,” You state while shrugging your shoulders.
“I cannot believe you just said that,” Nayeon gasped in fake hurt.
“Ladies, ladies, ladies, let us not fight. We have more important matters to deal with, like getting y/n ready for the best party of her life,” Sana gushed out.
“I have never felt so embarrassed in my life,” you muttered while shaking your head.
“Hey it might have been embarrassing but at least it worked out for you. You have to admit, if I didn’t yell that at lunch, the two of you probably wouldn’t have ended up together,” Jihyo pointed out.
“Yeah, that’s true. I guess I should thank you for getting us together.”
“Finally, it only took you six years to say,” she says while rolling her eyes playfully.
“I can’t believe it’s been six years,” you mutter to yourself while shaking your head. Jihyo hums in agreement.
“Y/n, it’s freezing outside, we should get you home.”
“I don’t want to go.”
“Y/n,” Jihyo sighs out.
“Please just let me stay here a little longer,” You plead.
“You’ve already been here for hours, you can come back tomorrow. It’s already 6 p.m,” She says while lightly grabbing your arm.
It was already 6? Have you really been here that long?
“Y/n, please. Everyone is worried for you, just come home. All the girls and guys are there. We don’t want you to be alone.”
After thinking for a few seconds, you slowly nod your head. Jihyo takes your hand and begins to lead you away from his snowy grave. Soon, you two were driving down the icy road.
“Do you want the radio on,” Jihyo asks while glancing at you.
“Sure,” You say while leaning your head in the window.
A couple of songs play but you don’t really pay attention to them, too lost in your thoughts. One song did catch your attention though.
“The next song was requested by one of our listeners. It’s Shoot me by Day6!”
“Just shoot me, shoot me,” Chan was singing at the top of his lungs causing you to die of laughter.
“Oh my god my ears can’t take it anymore,” You say while dramatically holding your ears.
“Is my beautiful voice not serenading you?” He questioned with mock hurt in his voice.
“Yeah it’s a no from me love,” you say acting like an Britain's Got Talent judge.
“Wait, if you don’t like it I can sing another song,” Chan pleads, playing along.
“No, no that’s alright. Next!”
“Wait hold on, ummm I can sing Queen! Everyone likes Queen! Mama ohhhhhohhhhhh I don’t wanna die! Sometimes I wish I’d never been born at allllll!!”
“SECURITY!” You yell while the two of you laugh your asses off. Chan then tackles you and begins to smother you with kisses.
“Ahhh Chan stop I can’t breath,” You laugh out while trying to push him off.
“Don’t reject my love,” He says while continuing his attack.
“You’re gonna give me cooties,” You cry out.
“Oh no not cooties!” He gasps while laughing and resting his head on your stomach.
“I’m tired now, entertaining you takes a lot of energy,” He yawns out.
“No it doesn’t, you literally could just show me a picture of a banana and I would laugh.”
“What the-”
“Less talking, more cuddling.”
Finally, you made it back to your home.
“Hopefully, it doesn’t look like a tornado went through it,” Jihyo joked, trying to lift your mood. You give her a small smile as you enter your apartment.
“Y/n,” Hyunjin calls out once he sees you. When you locked eyes, you couldn’t keep it together and started crying. He immediately rushed to you and pulled you into a hug.
“I’m sorry,” You apologize while pulling away, quickly wiping your tears.
“Don’t apologize, it’s okay to cry,” Hyunjin says while he puts his hand on your shoulder and gives it a little squeeze. After greeting everyone, you take a seat on your couch. You sit in between Minho and Sana while everyone else kind of spreads themselves around the living room. For most of the night, you had avoided the topic of Chan at all cost. Nobody wanting to open up fresh wounds. That was until Felix brought him up on accident.
“Oh my god, Chan would have killed us if he saw us do that,” He laughed before realizing what he said. Everyone went quiet, thinking about their friend.
“You know what, I can’t do this anymore,” Felix cries out while pulling on his hair.
“You can’t do what?” Mina questions.
“This! I can’t keep pretending that Chan never existed just because it hurts to talk about. We’re going to have to talk about him one way or another. We can’t erase him from our life.”
Again, the room falls silent.
“Do you guys remember the one time, we all went to Disney World and Chan freaked out because Jeongin, Dahyun, and Minho went missing? I swear on my life I’ve never seen him so scared,” Changbin brings up, causing everyone to laugh at the memory.
“Yeah and then he threatened to make us wear those backpacks with the leashes on them,” Dahyun says with a found smile on her face.
“He was always so worried about us like we were his own kids,” Jeongin adds on.
“Or do you remember that time, it was Y/n and his’s three year anniversary and instead of going out, he wanted to set up his own restaurant and he had Jisung as the waiter and Seungmin singing while the rest of us acted like we were other customers,” Momo reminisced.
“Oh my gosh that was such a mess,”You say with a hug smile.
“I can’t believe Changbin asked for the manager because his food was cold,” Sana laughed out as tears of happiness formed in her eyes.
“Chan was so pissed,” Jeongyeon said while shaking her head at the memory. Again, a wave of silence filled the room.
“Did any of you know?” You suddenly asked out of the blue.
“Know what?” Seungmin questioned.
“Did any of you know he was sick?”
“Y/n,” Jihyo sighs out while tilting her head to the side quickly.
“Wait a second, Jihyo you knew? And you didn’t tell me? What the hell is wrong with you?”
Jihyo looked down, feeling ashamed. You scanned the room and saw everyone mirroring her expression.
“You have to fucking be kidding me! Are you serious? You all knew?”
You honestly couldn’t put into words how hurt and betrayed you felt.
“You have to understand that Chan made us promise not to tell you. He told us that he wanted to do it himself but I guess he just never got the chance to,” Nayeon trailed off, avoiding your hurt eyes.
You rubbed your mouth with your hand as your legs shook.
“I knew Bang Chan was never going to tell you,” Felix admitted.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Changbin asked.
“It was a couple of days before he died. He had pulled me aside and he told me that things had been getting worse and he didn’t think he had much time left. He umm, he told me that he still hadn’t told you and that he honestly didn’t think he would ever have the heart to tell you. I’m sorry y/n.”
“And you still didn’t think to tell me after that?”
The air grew very tense in the room. No one knowing what to say or do.
“You know what, get out,” You coldly told everyone.
“What?” Sana asked in disbelief.
“You fucking heard me, I said get out! All of you!”
“You know what Y/n, you aren’t the only person hurting! I wish I didn’t know that Chan was dying. How do you think that felt? To know your best friend is dying and there is nothing you can do. How do you think it felt to feel on edge every time you hung out with him, thinking that this could be the last time you’ll ever get to see him. Stop being so selfish. I get it, Chan and you were dating. You were in love but are you seriously that blind that you can’t see the rest of us are hurting just as much as you!” Felix ranted causing you to laugh bitterly.
“If I’m so fucking selfish, why the hell are you even here? Just get the fuck out!” You yell while storming out of the room and rushing to your bedroom. Once inside, you lock your door and throw yourself onto your bed and cry your eyes out. After a few minutes, you hear a knock on your door.
“Go away,” You yell at the person, not having the strength to fight anymore.
“Y/n, it’s Jeongyeon, please open up.”
After thinking about it for a few seconds, you decided to open the door. You move out of her way and allow her to sit down on your bed as you shut your door. You move to sit next to her.
“Come here,” She says while holding her arms out so she could hold you.
“You know that Felix didn’t mean that, he’s just going through a lot right now. We all are. He feels really bad about it, he actually sent me up here to talk to you. No one thinks you’re selfish, he just said that in the heat of the moment.”
“Maybe he was right though, all I’ve done is think about myself. I haven’t even stopped to ask how you guys are doing,” You mumble out, guilt beginning to eat you up.
“Y/n you’re grieving, we can’t expect you to be worrying about others. You need to worry about yourself and your health.”
You pull away from Jeongyeon as you debated if you should bring up your thoughts or not.
“Do you...do you want to know what the last thing I said to Chan was?” You question, wanting to get your feelings off of your chest.
“Sure.”
“The last thing I told him was that I hated him. We umm, we had gotten into an argument a couple days before he died and I told him I hated him.”
The night had been extremely long. Chan and you had been arguing for about an hour. The two of you had gone back and forth, shouting hurtful words at each other and it was honestly so draining. Currently, Chan was sitting down on your couch while you paced back and forth in front of him on a mini rant.
“Y/n, please stop yelling, I don’t have the energy to deal with this tonight. Can’t we just go to bed and we’ll talk about it in the morning,” Chan signed out while rubbing his head.
“No Chan, this isn’t something we can just “push off” and talk about in the morning,” You fumed, growing more frustrated by the second.
“Baby-”
“Don’t fucking “baby” me Chan, where the hell have you been going? I’m tired of you lying to me!”
Chan sat there quietly, avoiding your eyes.
“Are you, are you cheating on me?” You ask, the question eating you up. This causes Chan’s eyes to go wide as he quickly stood up and reached out for you, only for you to take a step back.
“Y/n, I’m not cheating on you!”
“Then where have you been going?”
“I...I can’t tell you...”
“Why? Why can’t you tell me?”
“BECAUSE I JUST CAN’T! LET IT GO ALREADY! I...I don’t understand why you can’t just trust me.”
“How am I supposed to trust you when all you do is lie?”
“You know what? Fine, don’t trust me, I honestly don’t even fucking care anymore,” Chan said while getting up from the couch as he gathered his stuff.
“Fine, if you don’t care then neither do I! Fuck it, why don’t we just break up? Since I clearly can’t trust you and since you just “don’t care” anymore!”
“Are you fucking serious? Stop being such a damn baby,” Chan shot back, running a hand through his hair.
“I’m the baby? You’re the one who is acting like a child and can’t own up to what he’s been doing. What’s the point in hiding it anymore? Just say it! Just say “Y/n, I’m fucking someone else. I know I wasn’t man enough to say it before, but I’m gonna say it now.” It’s not that damn hard!”
“Oh my fucking god I already told you I’m not cheating on you! Do you really think that low of me that you think I would do that to you?”
“Yes, I fucking do! You haven’t given me any reason to believe that you wouldn’t!”
“Y/n, there’s some things I just can’t tell you right now! Why can’t you just believe me?”
“Because all you do is lie to me Chan, how am I supposed to believe you?”
Chan laughed bitterly while shaking his head.
“There is so much going on right now Y/n, I just, I can’t deal with this right now. If you believe me, great. If you don’t, then you don’t. I don’t really know what you want me to say,” He said, trying to keep his voice calm.
“You can’t deal with this right now? You know what, fine. Go, I don’t even care anymore. I fucking hate you,” You hissed out, shooting him an icy glare.
“Whatever,” He scoffed while giving you one more glance before walking away and slamming your door, leaving you all alone.
“Actually, after that he wouldn’t stop texting and calling me but I was so angry at him, I ignored him. It was such a dumb fight and I should have believed him. I shouldn’t have ignored all his text saying he was sorry and that he loved me. I shouldn’t have ignored his calls. I was so selfish. I...I wish I could have told him how much I loved him. I wish I could have told him how much he meant to me and that I could never hate him. I wish he could have held me one more time and I wish I could have kissed him one last time. I had been such a bitch to him and that’s the last memory the two of us had together. He was going through so much and I just made him suffer even more. That kills me, Jeongyeon. It kills me to know that I wasn’t there for him when he needed me the most,” You cry out, guilt eating you up. You had so many regrets. So many things you wanted to do over but you couldn’t.
“Y/n, you can’t beat yourself up over that. You didn’t know, you reacted in the same way any one of us would have reacted,” She said, trying to comfort you.
“I wonder if he grew to hate me. I wonder if he was mad at me for not responding to him, I wonder if he was mad at me for not being with him on the days he needed me the most.”
“Y/n of course he didn’t hate you! He could never hate you and you know that. I’m going to be honest with you Y/n. He probably felt guilty. Guilty knowing that the last memory you would have pf him was such a bad one. Guilty knowing how much it was going to hurt you once he was gone. Maybe he felt a little glad to. Maybe he thought that if you were mad enough, when he died it would hurt a little less. Honestly, we’ll never know what he was thinking or feeling.”
“I don’t know what to do anymore, I feel so lost without him,” You confess.
“Y/n, there was something Felix wanted me to give you. He said that the day before Chan died, he had given it to Felix and told him to give it to you once he passed away,” She said while handing you a DVD.
“I think it’ll be better if you watched it by yourself.”
You nod your head while Jeongyeon gave you one more hug before standing up.
“If you need anything just call me. I’ll be here in a heartbeat, I love you.”
“Love you too,” and with that she was gone. You took a few deep breaths, trying to calm yourself down before playing the video. Finally, you switched your TV’s input and turned on your DVD player. Taking the DVD out of the case, you put it in the player and sat back down on your bed, pressing play.
“Hey baby girl! If you’re watching this, well I guess that means things didn’t turn out too good and I’m already gone. I’m sorry I didn’t have the courage to tell you everything. I...I couldn’t stand to see you cry. I know I probably ended up hurting you more in the end by lying to you but I just, I couldn’t tell you. I want you to know that I love you so fucking much. I know the last conversation we had didn’t end well...hey maybe we’ll make up! But right now, with the way my health is going, I highly doubt I’ll live long enough for us to make up. That....that ummm, I’m sorry,” he laughs awkwardly while fighting back tears.
“That hurts me so much to know that the very last thing you’ll remember is me being a lying asshole. I just couldn’t tell you. I know I should have, that would have been the perfect time to tell you but I was scared. But Y/n, I don’t want that to be the only thing you think about. I don’t want you to think about all the arguments we had, I want you to think about all the good times. You remember the time I went to your house at like 1 am and you snuck out of your house and we drove to the beach that was like an hour away. Oh my god that was so much fun! You were complaining that the water was too cold so I picked you up and threw you into the ocean. The look on your face was priceless,” He laughed out with a found smile on his face.
“Y/n, I wish I could have been a better boyfriend. I know we had more ups than downs but you honestly deserved so much better. I’m so sorry for all the pain that I’ve put you through and I hope one day you can forgive me. I want you to know that whatever happens, I’m always gonna be with you. I’m always going to support and love you, wherever I end up being. I hope that you find happiness Y/n. You have to promise me that you wont shut yourself off from the world. I know when you’re sad you tend to do that but you have to promise me you won't. Promise me that you’ll get up early in the morning and you won't sleep all day. Promise me you’ll eat three meals a day, that you’ll go outside, that’ll you keep hanging out with our friends. Promise me....promise me that’ll you’ll move on from me and you won't hold on forever. Promise me that you’ll meet someone you love and you’ll get married to them and have lots of kids and that you grow old together. Promise me you’ll find someone who will get to do the things with you that I won't be able to.”
Chan pauses for a second, trying to pull himself together.
“Y/n, you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I want to thank you for always being there for me. I’ve never met a person who makes me as happy as you do. You are so beautiful and so funny. Whenever you smile, I smile. Whenever you laugh, I laugh. When you cry, I cry. I’ve never felt so connected to a person as I do with you. I honestly can’t put into words how much you mean to me baby. I feel like I’m just rambling now so I guess I should end this video here but, before I end it, I wanted to share something with you. I’m a little embarrassed but I uh, I wrote you a song. I know it’s silly so if you don’t want to hear it, you can just turn off the video. If you decided to do that, just know that I love you so much and I never stopped loving you. Umm, if you decided to stay, I guess I’ll start singing it,” He nervously laughed while grabbing his laptop and connecting it to speakers. Taking a deep breath, he began to sing.
I wish our ending
Wouldn’t be a sad one
If only we didn’t have to end up in tears
When we remember this moment..
Want Happy Ending
If that is not possible,
Become a most painful scar for me
If it reminds me of you
I will gladly embrace the pain
Will you do that for me?
When I see the fragile you
I forget my long sorrow for a moment
I want to rest in your arms once more
I can’t help my desire for you
Surpassing my ever-growing fear
I want to see how you’d look in the dazzling winter too
If that is not possible,
Remember me by this moment
Our night is sadly beautiful
And flower petals rain down
Our Happy Ending
“Well, I hope you liked it,” He choked out, trying not to cry.
“I love you so much and I’m so sorry. I hope one day we’ll get to see each other again. Uhh, please stay safe and healthy and happy. I love you,” He said one last time while giving the camera a little wave while he smiled sadly. And that was it.
Your entire body was shaking as you cried silently to yourself. Hearing his voice again made you miss him all over again. All you wanted to do was hug him and tell him how much you loved his song and how much you loved him, but you couldn’t. A part of you did feel some type of closure from watching the video yet another part of you just couldn’t let go of Chan. You knew that for him you needed to be strong but it was so hard being strong. You couldn’t do it, not without Chan. Maybe one day you would be strong, maybe one day you would have it in you to do what he asked. Maybe one day you would be able to feel something other than regret, sadness, and guilt.
“I wish we could have had a happy ending Chan,” You whisper to yourself as you lay down on your bed, covering yourself with your blanket. The warmth of it giving you a fake sense of security.
“Chan, if you can hear me, I want you to know that I’m also really sorry. I should have just trusted you. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about you. I’m sorry I can’t do everything you want me to but I promise I’ll do better. Maybe not anytime soon but I will someday. Tomorrow I'll probably just go back to your grave and talk to you like a crazy person,” You say while laughing a little as you wipe your tears.
“I love you so much. I wish I could have told you that before you left. I hope you know how much I did. That’s going to be the first thing I tell you when I see you again. It’ll be pretty awkward if when I die, you and my side hoe meet. That’ll be a sticky situation,” You joked while taking a deep breath.
“I’m a little tired now so I think I’m gonna go to sleep now. Thank you for making that video, I can’t express to you how much I needed it. You bet your ass I’m going to be listening to that song on repeat while I eat Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I miss you so much, maybe I’ll dream of you tonight. Goodnight Chan,” You say while closing your eyes. For the first time in awhile, you felt at peace in your home. It was almost as if he was with you then, calming you down and luling you to sleep. After a few more minutes, you drifted off into a peaceful sleep with happy memories of Chan and you swirling in your head.

“The Week In Tory returns for the second time in 4 days.
The weeks grow shorter, but the days last forever...
1. The consultant who advised the government to look for "alternative arrangements" on the Irish Border is in line for a £200m contract if alternative arrangements go ahead.
But to facilitate this, the government has to break international law with the Internal Market Bill (IMB)
Nobody can tell us what the "alternative arrangements" are, but the IMB passed through parliament anyway.
2. The UK’s highest-ranking law officer in Scotland resigned over the IMB
& The UK’s special envoy on media freedom, Amal Clooney (yes, that one) quit over IMB
3. The former (Tory appointed) ambassador to USA said the IMB was "hugely damaging to our international reputation"
4. Those snowflake liberal Remoaners Toby Young, Peter Hitchens and Tim Montgomerie turned on the govt over IMB. As did every living former-Prime Minister.
5. Joe Biden said there would be no UK/US Trade Deal if the IMB went ahead
But, Iain Duncan Smith said "we don’t need lectures" from Joe Biden
Trump’s special envoy to Northern Ireland also said there would be no Trade Deal
Apparently, Iain Duncan Smith does need lectures. Who knew?
6. Oh, and IMB also includes a provision allowing the government to break absolutely any law, absolutely any time!!!!!
7. Unrelated, I’m sure, but the number of "problem drinkers" in England doubled this year
So the government cut funding to alcohol addiction services
8. Dominic Raab, whose job it is to understand the Good Friday Agreement, admitted he hasn’t read the Good Friday Agreement
His excuse is: "it’s not a novel". True. Novels tend to be longer than 35 pages, aren't vital to solving conflicts that killed 3600 people
9. The Prime Minister, who literally voted to break a deal he signed with the EU, said the EU was "not negotiating in good faith"
The next morning, Northern Ireland minister and arch memo-misser Brandon Lewis went on TV and said "I believe the EU is negotiating in good faith"
10. It was revealed the Smart Freight System to handle post-Brexit trade won’t be ready until at least April 2021.
That’s at least 4 months without a freight handling system, during the time of year we rely on food imports the most
11. The Road Haulage Association said a meeting with Michael Gove to discuss border checks provided "no clarity" and was "a washout"
12. An official report says 2-day queues at Dover in January are "a certainty"
So the government closed a Covid test site in Kent, to convert it into a lorry park, in what experts (well, me) are calling "the world’s shittest game of whack-a-mole"
13. The government said people would be fined £1000 if they don’t self-isolate after getting a positive test
And then all tests ran out in the 10 worst-hit Covid hotspots
And then all home testing kits ran out, nationally
And then the website for booking tests broke, and just showed a series of error messages.
And then the government said the system was under strain because people were asking for tests when they didn’t know they were infected
So [deep breath] you must self-isolate after getting a test that doesn’t exist, and you can only get a test if you already know the result
14. Naturally, honesty no-fly-zone Home Office Secretary Priti Patel went on Radio 4 and announced tests were available everywhere and there were "no problems getting tests"
Same day - same hour, in fact - Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the testing system "has huge problems"
Jacob Rees-Mogg, who simply cannot shut up about fish, said we should stop the "endless carping" about not being tested for a fatal infection
15.Prime Minister Boris Johnson went on national TV and announced a "£100bn moonshot" approach to Covid, which would test "10m people per day"
Three days later, in front of a Parliamentary Committee, said he "didn’t recognise" the figure of 10m a day
And it was reported his half-brother is on the board of the business that would get most of the £100bn budget, which I’m sure is just a massive coincidence
Officials branded the moonshot as "Moonfuck"
16. And then Health Secretary Matt Hancock had to ask other cabinet ministers to stop referring to him as "Matt WankCock"
Despite appearances, these are not 7 year old boys
17. Food news, and Tory MP Douglas Ross said "I have seen the difference free school meals can make, and I want to make sure nobody falls through the cracks"
Douglas Ross voted against free school meals
18. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said we cannot put punitive restrictions on food imports from the EU (to force them to give up on Ireland), or we will starve
And then, minutes later, he agreed with a Brexiter MP who said we SHOULD put punitive restrictions on food imports from the EU
19. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said "I venerate our civil service" after sacking the innocent heads of multiple departments to protect friends including Gavin Williamson and Dominic Cummings. And as a result, people leaving the civil service rose 14% in a year
20. Planning-ahead news: an international conglomerate pulled out of a £16bn power project because the government hasn’t performed its part of the deal for the last 20 months
21. Funding cuts since 2010 meant the government had to inject £700m to prevent further education going bankrupt
22. This week it was found the government– which last week voted not to implement the recommendations of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry – has also failed to deliver its promise to remove the same dangerous cladding from at least 2000 tower blocks. Sleep well.
And then the government said files on Grenfell were "lost forever", after a laptop was wiped. Because everything is always stored on a single laptop. We all know this.
The government runs G-Cloud, its own dedicated cloud backup service, which has been active since 2012. So... yeah.
23. At a committee in parliament, an MP read out the Covid test figures. Dido Harding, in charge of testing, said “I’m sorry, that’s just not true, I don’t know where that number is from”
It was from her own report. Page 8. In bold type.
Dido Harding said "nobody could predict" a rise in demand for testing
Government scientists predicted it, and in a July report sent to Dido Harding – maybe it was a different one? - said "July and Aug must be a period of intense preparation for a September resurgence in Covid"
Oh, and standard advice says the NHS must always prepare for cold and respiratory infections to spike immediately after the return to school in September
Dido Harding wasted £13m on a "world-beating" testing app that cost £12.3m more than the German app, and didn’t work
She is now in charge of the test-and-trace service which has collapsed completely
So naturally, it was reported the government wants to sack the head of NHS England and install Dido Harding instead. Let's make the most of that successful record, eh?
24. In June the government tweeted "grab a drink and raise a glass, pubs are reopening"
The Prime Minister said "it is your patriotic duty to go out and enjoy yourselves"
This week they said the public is responsible, and "people going to the pub fuelled the rise in Covid"
So the government closed pubs at 10pm, because it’s well-known viruses only pop out for last orders.
25. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the government "threw a protective ring around care homes"
A leaked document said care homes are now being asked to accept patients who are known to have Covid
26. Hospitals were banned from launching their own testing regime for staff and patience because… nope, nobody knows why. Just because.
27. There hasn’t been a meeting of COBRA (the government’s committee for national emergencies, headed by the Prime Minister) since 10th May
28. As Covid infections surged, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said restrictions are increasing, and pointed to a chart showing the government has "moved to alert level 3". Level 3 is "a gradual relaxing of restrictions". Not only can't he remember his own alert system, he can't even read it.
29. Despite travel restrictions, it was reported the Prime Minister flew off for a long weekend in Perugia, where his friend the Russian billionaire Evgeny Lebedev lives. He denies it, but the airport has his landing documents. So either he’s lying or... no, that’s the end of that sentence
30. In June the government spent £500m on a GPS satellite system to replace the one we lose due to Brexit
In July it was reported "we bought the wrong satellites"
This week the government cancelled the programme and began asking the EU if we can keep on using their GPS system
31. A cross-party committee of MPs found nurse-Ratched cosplayer Home Office Secretary Priti Patel "bases immigration policies on anecdotes and prejudice"
It found her dept has "no idea" what its annual spending achieves, and referred to "the wreckage that [Patel’s department’s] ignorance caused"
She is one of the favourites to replace Prime Minister Johnson
32. This is because it was reported the Prime Minister is thinking of quitting because he’s worried about his personal finances: the poor man has to "pay tax", "buy his own food" and "support 4 of his 6 children". Oh, the humanity!
33. And Jonathan Aitken – look him up – continues to get privileged access to parliament despite a ban on MPs who have served more than a year in prison. Which he did. And it was hilarious.
34. And finally, because he always needs a guest appearance, Chris Grayling, the man who awarded a ferry contract to a company with no ships, has got a £100k appointment to advise ports”-Russ

What do you think would happen if Alice had fallen into Cradle with her child? I’m particularly curious about Sirius and Luka OwO
in general i’d say the presence of the mother-child combination in cradle would (rather, should) raise the tension higher because two people from the land of reason = two people who can repel magic, yeehaw. i think that gives the magic tower more incentive to be aggressive point blank bc 1) two magic repellers = greater chances of world domination plans being thwarted, 2) on the other hand they will make excellent test subjects, 3) them being blood-related + different ages (and possibly genders) opens more avenues for varied forms of experimentation, and 4) more ways to enter the land of reason, hella rad.
there’s probably more but morbid thoughts aside... here’s some general scenarios!
sirius:
he grew up having lotsa siblings + if you count the black army as the whole he’s raised a lot of brats lmao, so alice having a kid doesn’t faze him the slightest!
in the prologue where ray ends up catching alice, sirius ends up catching her kid instead. thinks the kid’s five years old or something. sirius is about to ask the child some basic questions, but the kid suddenly points to a running blanc so whoops. before the strange pair go rushing after blanc, kid says a thank you, mister! and that earns immediate brownie points because the! kid! called! me! mister! and sirius proceeds to make that veeeery clear to ray lol. maybe to fenrir and seth too, later.
so after all the prologue drama, alice & the kid formally introduce themselves as mother & child to the black army. there’s a few murmurs of reallys and awwws because tbh alice looked rather young to be a mother but oh well. it doesn’t change sirius’ welcoming and accommodating approach, though he keeps more tabs on the child because honestly...
a young child in the barracks... where there’s a stocked armory + shiny magic crystals... ridiculous brats - ehem, grown men prone to showing off + creating trouble... yeah. though it’s really not a hassle on sirius’ part to somewhat act like a babysitter, he gets to suffer being teased about nonsense like paternal instincts coming to life in full force lol!
though seriously speaking, he’s very careful not to ask / bring up the biggest subject of them all: alice’s husband (if there’s even one to speak of, ooh). on the kiddo’s side of course, it’s already hard enough that someone so young suddenly ends up in a strange place + gets their mother and themselves threatened by a whole goddamn army (sirius, to lancelot: i stg what are u doing???) + has to live out a whole month in a new environment all of a sudden, so he believes the least that he & the black army can do is keep the child comfortable enough so that the feeling of fear would be lessened, get a sense of comfort going on. sirius definitely can’t blame the kiddo if they start crying out for their father/home though - though he knows it’s not his fault + can’t do anything much, he’ll feel bad about the fact that he can’t do much for the child’s homesickness.
he’s not going to broach the topic on alice either - if alice wanted to talk, then he’d do his best to listen. if she didn’t then he wouldn’t dare ask, it’s a very personal topic after all. who was he to pry into her personal matters when she + her child would be leaving in a month???
so picture this: he did say he’ll help watching over the kid, but there’s not much to do bc her child is good enough. what a little angel, polite and curious and quiet. maybe a little too quiet, withdrawn??? hmmm. either way, the child didn’t seem too (pro)active. or was playful the term sirius was looking for?
like sure, there’s the loud laughs for stupid antics, answers when talked to, smiles and walks around the barracks on their own but... more often than not, the child keeps close to alice or is just around her general line of sight. separation anxiety, maybe??? that’s natural, so okay. or maybe it’s alice who’s always hovering around her child??? either way, there’s nothing odd about that, but upon longer observation...
the kid is just... really responsible / really loves their mom??? alice watering the plants??? quickly looks for another watering can / gets a bucket of water to refill the can with. general cleaning or laundry??? puts a hold on whatever they were doing, rolls up sleeves, gets ready to do some work. prep work for dinner??? peeling’s a bit wonky, but they’re doing their best while trying not to cut themselves...
this strikes off as a bit funny to sirius, because wow, they really are related. where alice is quick to offer her help on all sorts of tasks in the barracks, her child is just a step behind her, little hands willing to do some work. on some tasks, alice does tell her kid that she’ll be alright doing it on her own, but her kid insists doing it alongside her anyway. and that there, that’s a very alice thing to do, too. sirius - heck, maybe the black army would know that by now as well, lol, considering how alice flutters around the barracks looking for something to do if she’s not having some alone time + private time with her child.
though, as much as the help was appreciated... it doesn’t sit well with sirius that the mother & child are spending most of their hours working rather than enjoying themselves in cradle. he thinks it’s a shame, especially for the kid. back when sirius was younger, he would...... then he’d go to....... and then sometimes he’d.............
.... right. if the guests wouldn’t relax themselves, then sirius would take it upon himself to show them a good time. it doesn’t have to be through big events, it doesn’t have to be everyday, it doesn’t need to be through fancy or expensive gifts either...... if only just to see both of them smile more often, then it’s definitely worth the time thinking about.
more bonus points if he’d get to see alice’s kid start acting like... well, a child! while there’s nothing wrong with being responsible or wanting to help, a kid should definitely experience all sorts of things, explore what they can, and most of all, enjoy themselves.
that’s what it means to be young, and alice should do the same as well... being in cradle is their adventure, after all! they’re not completely unrelated to the war but..... if anything else, sirius wants to fulfill the black army’s promise of precting them until the full moon comes around, and when that day comes.... he hopes the two have made a ton of good memories of their stay in cradle.
......... funny that this guy’s thinking about how make the two relax when he can’t even stop and do that for himself lmaooooo
luka:
lol he starts off the same as he’s always been in most routes: shying away + nothing much to say to the parent/child combo now suddenly under their wing.
though, he does keep watch of their eating habits on the first days of their stay: alice eats anything + everything so that’s a relief, she’s adjusting. now if only he can say the same for her child....
imagine alice’s kid still being uncomfortable & cranky a few days in cradle + black army company, refuses to eat much even though his mom’s urging him to. breaks into a tantrum one day, saying that i wanna eat mama’s cooking instead! or something similar for everyone in the dining room to hear before storming out. ooh. there’s a brief silence - most stares land on luka, who isn’t really offended.
..... well, okay, so maybe it did sting a little bit. alice apologizes to luka before going away to calm her kid down. fenrir + ray tell him not to worry about it, seth + sirius muse about the kid feeling all homesick / sensitive. cue other soldiers saying something about puberty (whut lol). or y’know, kids being kids.
luka tries thinking about the kid’s situation for a bit. away from home, living in a whole new environment, surrounded by a whole lot of other people with attitudes and faces way different from those around at home... huh. that kinda sounds like himself in a way, except that the away from home bit on luka’s part was a voluntary choice.
having realized that, luka has a better guess of what the kid might be feeling. overwhelmed, definitely. from a very hostile welcome with handcuffs + the red army carrying the threat of death, suddenly being surrounded by the kindness of the black army is a total 360. must feel unreal, suspicious, even. the sight of real weapons around, the existence of magic and all that, unknowingly having a power so strong the whole country fears it. sounds like too much too process for a child.
..... alright, but looking at alice’s kid being unfriendly + clingy to alice 24/7 + being such a crybaby also reminds luka of... uh, himself, when he was younger. not to his own mother, but to... well, jonah, ugh. it’s not an easy pill to swallow (it takes grudging acceptance), but at least luka gets to know why he always felt some pang of irritation looking at the child.
so the next time the kid starts crying over something/causes trouble for alice, luka surprises everyone in the room by taking the initiative to scold the kid for acting so selfish. tough call, by the way - the child is wow, stubborn as hell + likes to keep the waterworks going while screaming; luka’s got a pretty good idea of what he wants to say but is having trouble getting it across properly and in a less menancing manner, so in short its a mess. witnesses ray blackwell + fenrir godspeed find the whole scene sorta funny though, much support lol.
alice wants to cut in, but sirius + seth tell her to leave it to luka, who seems to be winning since her kid’s running out of energy from crying & shouting at the same time. luka seems to be calming down too, because his tone + volume + facial expression is getting less stern. this seemed like a good time to mosey out of the scene so sirius ushers the audience to go away lmao, even the worried mother (who, decides to eavesdrop instead. no one has the heart to pull her away... so they hover around the doorway with her too.)
not arguing with luka anymore, the upset kid starts to babble of nightmares about the scary men in red with their sharp swords, not wanting to sleep because maybe when they close their eyes mama might suddenly be gone and they’re all alone, the scary feeling of losing mama to strangers, and the list goes on and on. its a collection of fears + worries of a child, and luka’s patient enough to listen. in fact, he smiles wryly when there’s mentions of monsters under the bed: it’s embarrasing, but luka used to cry over that too.
... seeing the kid bawl their eyes out like this, luka really is reminded of his younger self. the clinginess, sudden outbursts, the fear of maybe one day, they’ll be left behind and will be all alone. luka might be speculating the kid’s feelings, but more than anyone else, luka would be the closest one who could relate to what the kid was going through because.......... he acted that way towards jonah, back when they were younger.
he wonders if they’ve mentioned any of this to alice, even if just the smallest of their fears. he wonders how long they’ve been bothered over those fears, if they’ve been sleeping well at night. with all those questions in his mind, luka’s not so sure what to say; how to comfort the child.
he still tries though, even if his words come out a bit clumsy, even if the kid’s still sniffling all the way through the process. it’s a quiet moment, one that lasts till the child has cried themselves to sleep. they just stay that way for awhile, the kid resting their head on luka’s arm, until luka decides to carry the child back to their room........ alice must be worried.
..... she is, actually. when she and luka talk, she keeps quiet of her eavesdropping. luka doesn’t tell her everything either, because he believed that some of the things they talked about are better said by the kid themselves rather than him relaying the message to alice.
there’s nothing much to say after that, so luka goes on his way. alice says a very sincere thank you before he goes. she... has a lot of other things to say other than just that, but.... maybe another time. maybe when she’s plucked up the courage.
anyway, after all that alice’s kid seems to have gotten off their... spoiled phase, lol. still a little clingy to alice, but is getting less prickly + talking to others now. most notable development though, is if the child isn’t around their mother......... they could be seen hanging around luka.
.......... cue comments on how heartwarming it is to see a young child tottering around luka like a little duckling. luka does not appreciate the teasing. especially when it comes from seth + fenrir because why are their grins so big??????? but he doesn’t say anything against the kid following him around lol.
