i think the appeal of rosebird, at least for me, is the what-if of it all. like yes, the divorcee dynamic is fantastic (and as humorous as freezerbros divorce). but just the aching and the yearning and the missed chances over the years.

meeting at beacon and initially disliking each other because summer is just so fucking positive and kind and because raven is so fucking pessimistic and stubborn. they’re natural opposites and yet summer shows raven more kindness than she’s ever received before, and raven’s shown summer more defiance than she’s ever seen before. and that contrast is what attracts them to each other. the unknowns of how the other lives.

they spend time together, both with the team and just the two of them. maybe their fighting styles complement each other. and maybe when they’re out to get coffee together (raven drinks it black and summer drinks it with a cream and five sugars), their hands brush as raven hands her her drink. their legs press against each other’s when they sit at the table. there’s a lull in their conversation, a comfortable one, where they don’t have much to say but they’re content in each other’s presence. and maybe raven’s never wanted to be a follower before, but under summer’s leadership… maybe she was willing to trust her life in her hands. maybe they’ve almost kissed before. maybe they have kissed before. maybe they still want to.

but even if raven starts to trust her team (and summer) more, she sure as hell doesn’t trust anyone else. ozpin’s being sketchy as hell and her brother is buying into his every word. and maybe raven tries to warn them about ozpin. but they don’t believe her, instead chalking it up to her usual pessimism.

and so raven has yang. she sees her child, delicate as she is, innocent as she is. and she thinks this — this domestic life, this happy life — isn’t who she is. she grew up and had to fight everyday just to survive. there are people that depend on her. so she leaves. she’s shied away from summer so many times that… maybe summer’s moved on. she comes back two years later and sees ruby and figures that yeah, summer has moved on. that’s a good thing. that should be a good thing. why does she ache so much at the sight of it?

but this is all raven’s point of view. summer aches too, but she’s better at hiding it because she loves tai and she loves her kids and she shouldn’t miss someone who’d abandon her own family. she shouldn’t miss her, and yet she she does.

and when she tells raven about her mission against salem, she’s surprised to hear her agree so readily. “i won’t let you face that monster alone,” raven tells her over the scroll once. “i don’t want to see you hurt.”

and that’s a big revelation to summer. and raven’s mortified that an admittance of any sort of feelings is out there now. so when they meet in person, raven attempts cheek. “summer rose telling lies,” she teases, and it isn’t welcome. and her concern for the family that she left isn’t welcome either. and that’s right. raven left and summer moved on and that’s fair and that’s right.

then tragedy strikes. something happens to summer. if raven wasn’t standoffish before, she sure as hell is now. she shouldn’t have gotten so close to someone before, especially not someone as hopeful as summer. because in raven’s experience, that kind of hope only gets you one thing. dead.

now i’m definitely not excusing raven’s actions. she’s a deadbeat mom and teammate and though there’s (more or less) an explanation, it sure as hell isn’t an excuse. she hurt tai and yang badly. maybe she thought they were better off without her, but that wasn’t up to her. she thinks she’s merciful and strong for making a difficult choice, but it wasn’t the right one. but just b/c i dislike her as a person and the decisions she made, i do have to admit there’s a ton of intrigue to her and summer’s characters. this entire post was speculation, but that’s what makes it so fun to dissect.

AUUUU SO THIS PAST SATURDAY I FINALLY WENT ON MY RIDE ALONG WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THATS OUTSIDE MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND IT WAS FUCKIGNFN AWESOME

I was there from 8am to 8pm and we only got 5 calls the entire time I was there

First call: fire at a local fast food place

Second call: structure fire but we were called off en route, ended up going to Walmart to buy some stuff for dinner and breakfast

Third call: some crazy burning plywood in a burn barrel behind a gas station

Fourth call: lift assist

Fifth call: another lift assist

Did I ever tell you about the Dr pepper doughnuts I don't think I did so I'm going to now. So like my phone right. I get trending searches section for cod knows why and it's kind of just a pseudo news page or smth. Like right now it wants me to search up eee virus mosquitoes. Or maybe pumpkin spice latte dunkin doughnuts. Whatever may be the hit google search of the hour.

Anyway back to the point this nifty little feature brought to my attention a doctor pepper × krispy kreme collaboration. Now in case whoever it may concern is unaware, krispy kreme is an American doughnut company and by cod are they good at making glazed doughnuts. That's about it though. Needless to say I was intrigued.

I now interrupt this story to say that my sister is going on about how kirishima × bakugo is a gay ship. As if that wasn't obvious. With dubious support on the fact that it's gay but also she's 3 years old (exaggeration) so what does she know.

back to the meat of the matter, doughnuts. Upon a search (said recommended search, in fact) we arrive to this

Gorgeous. Football. I had forgotten football existed. I wouldn't let that discourage my search, however. And as it appears, krispy kreme generously supplied ample description for these doughnuts.

Now, something is odd here, no? Despite being explicitly a Dr pepper collaboration, only one doughnut is imbued with this advertised flavor. And it's only the frosting, no less! Of course I didn't fully read this before purchasing the doughnuts; expecting the doughnut itself to have this flavor, but that's to be discussed later.

the trip

Now I don't know about you but I think I should break this up and also not put this all in your ask box but I'm stuck here now. On account of the curse. Anyhow it goes without saying that I had to try this doughnut, with these bold promises of excellence that came from their manufacturer (always a trustworthy source). Though one issue with that: I don't live all that close to a krispy kreme. So naturally, this had to be turned into a fun little trip.

and all the while typing this I'm realizing that I really don't want to be typing this. I don't want to tell you about my doughnut. No matter as I've built up a story that simply must end. I gather my most trusted companions and we prepare to drive miles away in hopes of simply getting a taste of these doughnuts.

We get there without incident, but the doughnuts aren't hot which is always sad to see. The vibes (forgive me for saying "vibes") are horrendous. There is only one hat hanging on the wall. Without delay we order a Glazed (why does Glazed auto correct to be capitalized?) dozen and 3 of the elusive Dr pepper doughnuts. There's a wasp in the doughnut case. The Dr pepper doughnuts barely look worth the trouble.

We inevitably get back to the car. Drive to a neighboring empty parking lot (not to say that the Krispy kreme was getting much business) and divide the doughnuts among us. We take a bite.

They're horrible. Borderline terrible. It tastes like if Dr pepper didn't know what they were doing. There is not a hint of true Dr pepper in the frosting. I could do better and that's saying something. The little logo is made out of a dubious material. Chocolate? Extremely melty chocolate if so. It wasn't fondant. Maybe it was a special thing they cooked up. The doughnut is bad. I finish it out of obligation. We leave.

And that my friend. Is a whole lot of words no one wants but apparently I had to write. And also the story of krispy kremes Dr pepper doughnuts. Bad. 1 star review that says I would give 0 stars if I could. Not worth the money. Inspires horrible deeds like writing a memior in your mutuals ask box. Good evening and good night.

and also okay last thing and then i promise i'm going to stop filling up your dash with a book you don't care about but althea/brashen is so hilariously ya for such a serious adult hard fantasy series that it's hilarious. althea offhandedly mentions to amber that she wishes sex and romance weren't so complicated and amber immediately goes "yeah like with brashen. like how you're in love with brashen. like how you fucked brashen that one time and now you're in love with him". says that she's glad she was already flustered walking into a room with him there so that her blush wouldn't give her away. homegirl went into a dark room to watch him leave and WHISPERED HIS NAME TO HERSELF. meanwhile brashen hears a rumor that one other man might have shown some romantic interest in althea and is prepared to kill himself. literally kicking sand whith an inner monologue of "whatever, she can go be with her BOYFRIEND, i don't CARE 🙄". this doesn't stop him from openly staring lustily at her throughout dinner. couple of all time.

Played a game of WolfQuest with my friend where we played as the Dread Doctors (I was the Surgeon, she was the Geneticist, and we didn't have anyone to play the Pathologist) cause we wanted to see the Chimera Pack as pups. Here's some cute screenies we got from it!
