I think a very important distinction to be made between Spy x Family and Buddy Daddies (that can also hopefully stop ppl from comparing them in bad faith) is that Kazuki and Rei are supposed to be messy and somewhat incompetent. They have very specific skills but they are mostly just fuck it we balling all situations all the time. Kazuki’s plans are stablished to constantly fall apart and Rei is shown to be impulsive and willing to jump straight into the danger when the plans fail. They are not supposed to be as competent as Loid and Yor - not at their jobs and not at raising a kid. They go about it in fundamentally different ways in both shows and if you go in expecting them to be carbon copies of each other you will be disappointed and for stupidly unfair reasons too
To put it simply - they are different shows and their character dynamics are fundamentally different
I think maybe everyone should cool it with the “weird cult” comments regarding the covert, honestly. It wasn’t that funny to begin with but now that it’s the popular describer it’s starting to become a little uncomfy. No one is forced to join, no one is forced to stay. There’s a ton of parallels between them and real world cultures and religions and I just think MAYBE we need to be a little more aware of what message we’re sending when we say “haha that group of people who are in hiding because their lives were/are at stake and who practice anonymity to survive and follow certain rules that I don’t personally understand or like are a weird cult”.
One thing I’ll never be able to understand about most PJO show haters is that, as much as I may criticize aspects of the show, my first reaction after finishing the finale was “gods I can’t wait until season 2”
So I saw this Reddit post about Aventurine/Sigonians in general potentially being space Romani people, which seems highly likely to be the case right now, and also an interesting avenue to go for his story/character. I just hope that Hoyo’s writer team don’t fumble otherwise not only will it be a waste of potential, but they’re almost certainly gonna come under fire by someone.
I deleted my post about the Pomme figurine. Cause at first I was excited but now idk.
I don’t know with this qsmp stuff and everything coming out with the admins. The 0 communication we have currently (q did state he was going to let us know what was happening to those of you who didn’t know/choose to ignore that) as well as things on the server really do seem to continue as if nothing is missing (my opinion get out of here w/ your rude bs) and proceeding to do QSMP awards when A LOT of your ccs are not returning until things have changed/admins are back.
I have hope for the document and that Q will see it (I doubt it though seeing as apparently people are FLOODING his email about it/other things)
Shits weird and the more and more I see admins dropping like flies, the little bits of hope I have for the project dwindle.
Phil’s pov seems to be the only one I like since he unintentionally donowalled lore happening on the server and is just playing the way he would (ie exploring) so I may just stick with him sometimes.
Do you ever hear rhetoric from right wing people or very religious people that’s supposed to be empowering? And it IS but in the complete opposite affect? That happened to me today, and my mind is a little blown
Came across a clip of a man preaching to a bunch of religious people on belief and faith. He used an analogy that I personally never heard before. It boiled down to a man on a tightrope over a dangerous ravine with an observer. After he successfully crosses the rope, he asks the person watching him if he believes that he can do it again but with a wheelbarrow. The person says yes, I just saw you do it fine. I’m sure you’ll do it again. The man reiterates, ‘You believe that I can do it but do you have faith that I can?’
The observer says it’s the same thing, that he both believes and has faith that he can do it. Okay. The man then tells him, ‘If you have faith that I can do it then get in the wheelbarrow.’
The analogy is supposed to make people feel empowered and enlightened. Which it did, but in the opposite way. I didn’t hear that and think ‘wow I need to get in the wheelbarrow and put my faith in god.’
That’s when it hit me that no, I don’t have faith. I’m not getting in that wheelbarrow and I’m not even going to watch the man attempt it.
It was freeing. Completely freeing and despite the intentions of the analogy, I am incredibly grateful I heard it
Makes me wonder what other analogies people found power in despite the original intentions of it
Simultaneously excited to see Barriss again, while also not liking the idea of a major Muslim-Coded character being demonized further, while also wanting a redemption for her, while also not wanting it to only happen here because we still shouldn’t sidestep the fact that she killed innocent people for basically nothing and four(?) episodes isn’t enough to handle that kind of storyline, while also-
(one of) the most frustrating parts about the portrayal of drow society is that it wants to create Reverse Sexism without uncoupling itself from some. pretty foundational patriarchal ideas. it ascribes to the (tired, essentialist) notion that men are inherently good at certain things, and women are inherently suited for different things
but rather than the basic subversion of “women are warriors and men are the homemakers” or even early feminist thought experiments like “traditionally ‘women’s priorities’ are given importance over ‘men’s’ (ie things are governed by council, importance is placed on childrearing, etc)”, menzoberranzan is “this society still holds to patriarchal values and women are not as good at these things which is why it’s demonstrably worse”.
the biggest tell is that they have to control the male population to maintain female dominance, the implication being that in a fair fight, men would easily overpower them. it assumes the misogynist ideas as fact that “women are inherently weaker” and also “women are duplicitous” so the drow fighting style is based on stealth and sabotage rather than “”honorable”” face- to-face combat (letting lie also the assumption that the only avenue for ambition is through military violence, and therefore still making it so that they are reliant on men, even as disposable shock troops, for their success).
the only things that keep women in charge are by stacking the numbers on a systematic level, and through sexual domination on the individual level (because clearly the only real power a woman can have over men is her sexuality).
it is a society where “men act like men” but women don’t act like women; it is evil because an act of god created an aberration against the “natural order” of things, and there is no one to tend the hearth (because if the women won’t do it, no one will)
