this is a general thought and not about anything in particular, but sometimes for me, as someone who shows love through perceiving, it gets really frustrating because it feels like people really want you to see them but be blind to any part they don’t want to show and like for me love isn’t pretending you can only see someone as perfect but seeing them as they are and hoping they know that you love them even with the things they want to work on

It's 11 PM, but one of my favorite little Darcy/Elizabeth moments happens while she still hates him and thinks he's a depraved monster, and I find it really entertaining.

It's during the Kent section, when Darcy calls at the parsonage and finds Elizabeth alone. During a longer, awkward conversation in which they both deeply misunderstand each other, they have this tiny interchange:

[Darcy:] “This seems a very comfortable house. Lady Catherine, I believe, did a great deal to it when Mr Collins first came to Hunsford.” “I believe she did—and I am sure she could not have bestowed her kindness on a more grateful object.” “Mr Collins appears very fortunate in his choice of a wife.” “Yes, indeed; his friends may well rejoice in his having met with one of the very few sensible women who would have accepted him, or have made him happy if they had. My friend has an excellent understanding—though I am not certain that I consider her marrying Mr Collins as the wisest thing she ever did."

So: they are in Mr Collins's house. Darcy tries to re-start the conversation with a polite nothing about the house. Elizabeth agrees about Lady Catherine's micro-managing, but can't resist the chance to make a sly jab at Mr Collins (who is not present) to Darcy (a genuine villain, as far as she believes).

Darcy's reply looks a bit like an attempt to redirect the conversation into safer waters (they can agree that Charlotte is cool!). But although his remark is only somewhat related to what Elizabeth said, I think it's a natural follow-up in his mind because he is also insulting Mr Collins, if more subtly.

He could have praised Mr Collins's judgment in choosing Charlotte or just said something nice about Charlotte; he doesn't. Instead, he suggests that Mr Collins's choice of Charlotte was a matter of good fortune—or chance, as Charlotte herself would say!—on Collins's part. Darcy and Elizabeth both know Collins is a fool and that his choice of a woman like Charlotte says nothing about his judgment, only about his good fortune. (Elizabeth has even better reason than Darcy to know how much Collins ending up with Charlotte was lucky for him, but Darcy can see it anyway.)

Darcy's phrasing gives him some plausible deniability, but I think he's generally quite careful with his wording and the implicit insult to Mr Collins is not accidental.

Elizabeth, I think, takes this exactly as intended. She's not at all confused about where this tangent came from or offended by it or anything. She readily seizes on the new line of conversation as encouragement to keep insulting Mr Collins and his appeal to women with functioning brainpower.

Elizabeth is pretty scrupulously polite in general, so I kind of love that she just starts venting about her absolute contempt for Mr Collins and the Collins/Charlotte marriage to Darcy in the middle of a tense and weird conversation in Mr Collins's house. And I love that Darcy, who is otherwise more or less dog-paddling his way through this conversation, is like "yeah, your friend seems really cool, that dumbass is lucky he accidentally chose someone with a brain."

Elizabeth: "Right? And, let me add-"

(Is it a bit of an asshole move on both their parts in the context of that scene? Yeah, I think a little. I also love it! Please trash-talk obnoxious hosts in their own parlours for the rest of your lives.)

It is a very cool region (if not a bit overly large) although like most of downpour its soured by miros vultures existing (I hate them and they have been banned from my game) My favorite part is the golden creature color swaps. Black and gold just always rules

but fr outside of my contracted madness i absolutely refuse to give joe alwyn gold rush like how is that song at all related to their relationship the lyrics clearly spell out a relationship that either never existed or only existed in implication and fantasies and maybe-maybe nots and its so bitter and yet desperately soft in the bridge where it almost projects a sense of envy, of wanting to be them as much as you want them. It continues an interesting oft ignored lyrical trend of taylor wanting just as much to be her lover as to have them, envying their easy charisma (you were flush with the currency of cool/i was always turning out my pockets) or quiet dignity (your integrity makes me seem small) dating back to her earliest songs (the kind of flawless i wish i could be). Theres a projected self hatred and yearning to be better that twists itself into both romantic and sexual lust for her partners thats so fascinating and speaks to how all of her songs regardless of who theyre about are also an act of self reflection on who she is and who she wishes to be.

I can't think of a title for these Nimona headcanons

Throughout their childhood Bal and Ambrosius switched between who was taller 

They would get growth spurts so frequently that it wasn’t uncommon for them to go to the nurse's office just to settle a score and check who was taller every couple of weeks 

And when they did figure out who was taller the “winner” would make a massive scene about it and constantly mock the other until they got a growth spurt 

For some reason Bal was unreasonably proud after his growth spurts and would often say shit like “I’m sorry my lord you’re going to have to speak up I can’t hear you from this great distance”

While Ambrosius was plastered to his side 

Bal was actually taller at the start of their relationship and he always made a scene about kissing Ambrosius 

He would let out a groan whenever he had to lean down and straighten back up and would make joking remarks about his back hurting because of it 

Once it became clear that Ambrosius was winning the height contest he made up for the constant jokes 

Bal calls Ambrosius short will so much honesty and conviction that bystanders have often told them to stand back-to-back just to make sure Ambrosius is taller 

I said in this post that Ambrosius is allergic to a shit ton of things 

And because of that he has multiple EpiPens  

He keeps one on hand at all times, one in his car, one in his office, and one in his room

He was also given two extras that Bal and Nimona took

He didn’t even know that they took them until one night they went out to dinner 

And he order something that gave him a mild reaction

He knew it was fine but the duo was freaking out and he noticed that they kept reaching for something 

He asked them about it and they both unwillingly showed him the EpiPens 

He wasn’t even surprised that they took them he was just shocked he didn’t notice they were missing 

When Nimona is distracted or in a rush their human form is less believable and sometimes ventures into the realm of uncanny 

Sometimes its bigger things like their limbs being disproportionate to their body or their eyes being bigger than the average person

And sometimes it’s smaller things like the texture of their skin being closer to sharks' scales and their hair feeling like animal fur 

He also doesn’t need to breathe or blink as often as humans and he physically can’t break a sweat 

So it’s kind of creepy to watch him do something physically taxing without his chest heaving or blinking sweat out of his eyes 

Whenever the boys mess up or break a promise Nimona makes a big deal about them “making it up to her” 

Sometimes she makes them cook for a month straight 

Sometimes she drags them to the store and forces them to either buy her something or watch her back as she steals something 

Either way once it’s done they call it even and never bring it up again

But she also makes an equally big deal about when she breaks a promise and she begs them to pick something to make it right

Sometimes when the boys are feeling petty they’ll really wait to figure out their favor and she always acts like they’re torturing her

But she always makes up for it even if it’s something as simple as flying them to work cause they’re running late

one of my favorite things about carry on fandom (at least as it has existed since i joined in 2021) is that no one gets hung up on like... writing expertise or fics being "out of character." this is especially impressive because there is SO MUCH character analysis that goes on in this fandom, and yet it never translates to dunking on interpretations of characters that ppl disagree with. there's just genuine joy over the face that people are out here writing and sharing and putting their own twists on stories.

in general, everyone is just so encouraging abt art, and that's such a wonderful environment for people who are new to writing/sharing their writing. and for people who are not new but still feel nervous about putting themselves out there. it's really special! i think it's similar for visual art too

sydcarmy meeting as kids au!!!

the berzatto kids help out at The Beef on the weekends. it’s fully a mom and pop operation. mikey’s there so naturally richie’s there too and they’re both teenagers and richie mans the counter all rowdy and loud but boyish and charming and old ladies love him

nat buzzes around donna eager to be useful but donna shoos her away or straight up just ignores her the whole day pretending not to notice nat tugging on her shirt saying please mom please

at the end of the day she sits on a stool at the counter mopey and sad but then richie asks her to count the register because he says he’s “fucking godawful” and she feels a little less useless after that

mikey being the oldest works in the kitchen. first he’s prepping vegetables or making the sauce and at some point their dad stops trying at all so he has to pick up the slack and starts to miss more and more classes to help out at the restaurant

one time he’s running out for school in the morning when he sees donna at the dining table sobbing into her palms saying no one wants to help her and she has no one and everything’s always on her on her on her (one person called out sick). mikey misses another big test and has to redo another year

CARMY! carmy is the shiny baby of the family that everyone teases will “make it out”. he doesn’t really know what it means but he sees how it makes his mother scoff and she’s always meaner to nat after

he loves being mikey’s little sidekick, always the one to get this and grab that and stir the sauce carmy don’t fuck up! he’s growing to be hungry for the noise and smell of the kitchen but he’s also little so uncle cicero ushers him out from the hot burners and sharp knives whenever he can

on the less busier hours of the day carmy draws or does homework at one of the tables. mostly he draws. he’s usually quiet but will share the rest of the seats when some customers ask are these seats taken?

mikey brings him in early one the morning and shows him how to braise meat. he does everything his big brother tells him to do and everything punctuates with a makes sense in his head and he’s little but he just gets it

carmy gets pulled into the line and next thing he knows he’s ten years old grabbing bread and butter and his beef and he’s got two wrapped sandwiches on a tray

richie tells him who it’s for and he brings the food out to a smiley dad and laughing daughter in their Sunday’s best

the girl has beads in her hair and they click and clack together when she turns her head to look at him when he says hello

he gives them their tray and stands next to richie behind the counter nervous and tries not to stare at the two people eating the food he made

he fails at the try-not-to-stare part but it’s okay because they get a bite in and the girl’s eyes widen, a little jokey to make her dad laugh but also a little real, and she’s nodding her head while she chews like she’s trying to process what she’s tasting and he hears her say “cool” and her dad asks “you like it?” and she says mmhm and takes another bite and carmy feels something full and bright growing in his chest

carmy grabs his sketchbook and color pencils under the register and draws an Italian beef sandwich over a checkered blue wrapper. he tries to remember everything mikey told him about braising beef and served au jus and writes it all down on the sides. at the end of it he tacks on the word “cool” and draws a cloud around it

the music in WOT is never random. even if it's just very soft background music, it's relevant to the scene. practically every time there's music playing while egwene is onscreen during s2, the tune is egwene's theme, rearranged and reinstrumentated in dozens of different ways to match the tone of the particular scene. mat has quick little snippets of his theme tune play during various scenes of his, often mixed with the old blood theme from s1, and it finally blares out in full glory for the first time during the horn of valere scene, to parallel how mat is truly finding himself for the first time. even secondary characters like liandrin, siuan, and aviendha have their own dedicated theme tunes that play during their scenes and are never repurposed as background music in other characters' scenes. and all the themes have lyrics in the old tongue that suit the character or concept the theme is about! in conclusion, lorne balfe is truly doing the Most, and i'm so grateful he's the composer for WOT and i hope he'll return for every season the show goes for.

Something I've been reflecting on again is my childhood as a (then unrealized) trans man, and just how it's impacted how I move about now.

I remember as a kid distinctly feeling almost predatory for even breathing near girls my age or women, and while I didn't have the words to understand why that is, I still distinctly feel that way. It's definitely something that weighs on you, especially when you try your best to be upstanding and decent. It's hard to quantify my experiences as a trans man in many ways because they aren't quite the same as cis men or cis women's experiences, and I think people expect trans men to either be the exact same as cis men or admit we aren't "really" men (because, obviously, cis men are the standard (sarcastic)).

All this to say that trans experience is complicated. Support all trans people, and listen to us at all ages. I really wish somebody had somehow noticed and told me I wasn't a monster for how I felt. I hope no young trans person has to ever feel that way.

this series super leans into the melodrama in the first few chapters; it levels out to an enjoyable balance imo. kasumi is extremely weird and intense and has placed herself into the genre of psychological thriller

meanwhile, lily’s solidly in the genre of shoujo protagonist
