Digital Circus AMA Notes
Digital Circus is getting a season 1 at some point!!!!
#webcore aesthetic board for the series design
Pomni was going to be a frog originally. 🐸
90s toys Zooble inspo
Caine is an antagonist, but not by active choice, he doesn't know he's not helping. He doesn't feel a whole spectrum of human emotions (he's an AI).
"Caine canonically just lets things happen if he thinks it's funny."
Characters eat like Chao in Chao garden in Sonic. The characters can eat the food, but they can't digest it.
Jax's favorite food is spaghetti.
Pomni likes salmon.
Q "Was the ending a 'Last Supper' reference?" A "in a very superficial kinda way yeah." Religious stuff is sometimes just used for the funny.
Gooseworx tumblr sketches MAY or MAY NOT be canon to the series, so it's up in the air for every single one.
People can abstract from feeling too much pain if it breaks their mind from it being too much. Characters feel pain from things, but not as intensely as they would in real life.
Zooble is gonna swap parts every episode (implying they have spare parts) except their body & head.
Jax chose his own name & gooseworx likes to think he chose Gangle's name.
Ragatha was named "Emmy" originally.
They (the cast of characters trapped in the circus) can't change their clothes but Caine can. It's part of their skin sorta kinda.
There's empty space under Pomni's hat because video game model physics.
Spamton was partially inspo for Caine, Caine's VA did Spamton dubs.
Gangle only has 2 masks. Why's it (her hapiness mask) break all the time? Mental state, but the "real her" is "harder to break."
Kaumfo was gonna be part of the main cast originally before Jax.
Kaufmo's model has nothing below the waist at this time, but was made for that promotional image on twitter.
Q "What kinda person was Kaufmo?" A "He was the same as Ragatha in a sense, goofy & cheery, sometimes toxic levels of positivity."
I'm paraphrasing for the sake of note taking in real time, go watch the stream playback for more context & details if you want.

I’m not usually one for conditioned whumpees, and especially not for recovery, but I think I would really enjoy those types of scenes more if the trauma responses were allowed to be more nuanced and complex.
This isn’t a criticism of anyone specific, it’s just something I think I lack in the community, and I don’t think I’m the one to write it either, but I think that what puts me off is that I know what it’s like to be triggered by something, and it’s such a complicated and not always conscious process.
Like yes they might feel that someone they’re with is angry or upset with them and suddenly try to do anything they can to please them, but that might come with a wave of shame and self loathing once they’ve realised that nothing was wrong and they’ve just embarrassed themselves in front of someone close to them.
Or maybe they’re scared of that part of themself, and they’re so scared that other people will see it or hurt them again that they push them away, maybe they test their boundaries, maybe they hurt the people they love instead because they want to see what happens when they finally do get angry.
Maybe they hate that part of them that makes them become someone else, that makes them get lost in their mind. Maybe they resent how it makes relationships hard, how they try to move on but some small thing ignites a carefully buried spark of fear and the whole thing starts again.
I also wish there wasn’t so much of a power dynamic of whumpee and caretaker, where the whumpee is someone who is mentally ill and traumatised and not expected to ever be independent or live alone. No, I want them to have friends and partners and lovers, and struggle and find joy in equal measure, on their own terms.
There’s absolutely people writing this sort of content, and there are things I will read because I think they capture that complexity, and of course these are my personal feelings but I do urge people to think about this when they write, if they want to.

Hello!
If you're not too busy, would you mind listing some of the things you think count as death flags for Mr. Spender?
There's the obvious fact that he's the "old" mentor to group of young protagonists, but what else do you think would count?
OHH BOY ok so I'd think I'm a crackpot for this but since we're talking about Zack "Foreshadowing" Morrison. I have some thoughts
No harm in leading with the (chronologically) first thing that jumped out at me:
This one IMMEDIATELY made me antsy whenever I came back to it after my initial read, and considering Zack has referred to it on twitter in the past as one of their favorite jokes it's definitely not been forgotten about.
Second, the sheer amounts of near-misses, jokey or not, of Spender narrowly avoiding specifically lightning
Again, not much, but it's weird that it happened thrice, latter two of which had real gravitas rather than an one-off joke.
And third, Spender himself. He's repeatedly shown himself to be kind of a self sacrificing idiot, as well as prideful to a fault. Granted, it's both him and Mina trying to take on all the responsibility of saving Mayview and its inhabitants from their fate..
But Spender is exactly that right measure of doesn't-value-himself-enough (chest footprint aftercare or lack thereof), having an obscene amount of power (enables his loner act + pride) and poor judgement that has the capacity to put him at great risk. And it has!
Spender has not only shown low enough self-esteem to view himself as the de-facto scapegoat for the safety of the town, but also prideful enough to make very bad calls that end up in people, often himself, hurt (COUGH FORGE INCIDENT COUGH)
This is all conjecture, but it's definitely enough to make me worried about him :') Even if all this doesn't mean he'll necessarily die he's definitely getting (even more) seriously injured at some point. I love the guy but he's so far doing a horrible job of convincing me he wants to live bad enough to circumvent at least that

So...
I have so much fanfiction written about Aarmau it's unreal. To the point where I have a backlog of the stuff on multiple websites (and unpublished stuff on my phone *cough* smut *cough*)
I can't read other people's fanfiction about them anymore. Especially if it contains infidelity. It just gets me SCREAMING about how people have mischaracterized the characters even though I know damn well I didn't create them and pretty much every rewritten version of a character is better than canon.
To me neither Aaron nor Aphmau would EVER cheat (on purpose) they just respect each other too much for that. Not even love, just respect. It DRIVES ME UP A FUCKING WALL. And I get it, cheating is angst and I'm all for that shit, but... I don't like it when people go there, personally.
This ain't a dig either, just personal preference.
Now if it's "Aaron got fucked up by love potion/Ultima weirdness and didn't have control. Or even better, Ein fucking with Aphmau's mind. YES, GIMME THAT SHIT. Cause they're not consciously making the decision "let's fuck up everything we've built."
ALSO, after thinking on the age gap a little more, I think I'm getting the problem, Aaron being a senior alluds to him being way more emotionally mature, and a college student making moves on someone in high-school is a little bit of a yikes. But! (And this isn't me defending actual groomers, ew no.) We've SEEN Aaron's childhood, my Boi is FUCKED emotionally, so he's not really all that more emotionally mature than Aphmau.
That being said. I DO now think that Jess should have made Aaron the same age as Garroth, which was I think a year above Aphmau at the time.
Then have him get shipped off to private school or back to military school if you still want that "Oh no my love interest has to go away." Punch.
As for college, I think that whole season should be rewritten anyway, because the three/four way love-triangle for Aaron bullshit gets real grating real quick. And I think the whole thing should have been focused on Aph gaining a reputation as a slut and her struggle through that. (And how it may effect her decisions after college. Hey more angst.) And Aaron's struggle to get out from under the thumb of his father (possibility slightly more violently than in cannon.) Jenny and the rest of the anime trope girls (except maybe Betty and Diane, but that's because Diane reminds me too much of myself) could cease to exist and I would be a-okay with that.
Also let Aaron have female freinds. Please. Or even let Aaron and Aph have that best freind banter before and after they get together. LET THEM ANNOY THE SHIT OUT OF EACH OTHER FOR GODS SAKE.
this became a rant about potential again I'm sorry.
