It's basically story, where Wei Wuxian transmigrates from modern times into cultivator setting, summoned by mistake, by his counter-part here and basically hijacked their body? And was then promptly attacked by Lan Wangji, who thought it was original

In cultivator setting, Wei Wuxian was also known as a Yilling Laozu - ancient and mad with grief over Lans killing his husband few hundreds years ago. The present Lan Wangji is reincarnation of said husband, but due Yilling Laozu Wei Wuxian not letting him go, he couldn't properly reincarnate or something? Like - he is still man's husband, Lan Wangji, but a little bit different and that stops him from falling in love with YL WWX?

(There was also something about how this Wei Ying was summoned, because Lan Wangji from that universe probably died, before they had a chance to meet.)

Anyway, after getting (i think?) stabbed by Lan Wangji he got taken to Cloud Recess, then he somehow winded up in Lotus Pier, growing close with Jiang siblings. Also, Wei Wuxian from the modern times was some kind of doctor or inventor (?) and he tried bringing some modern solutions there.

17. For fic finder, I remember it was a multichap canon dovergent wangxian fic with inventor wwx. Tho I am not sure if that tag was used. The most notable part of it was Madam Jin bringing evidence of jgs putting his lot in with wrh complete with bills, transactions, correspondences etc. Jgs tries to discredit her by being a misogynist. That's when madam Jin uses a wwx custom binding spell on him and then says "I am a quick study when I want to be" to wwx and then she says "thank you for your instruction" because she learned the spell from jzx who saw wwx teach it to jc in cloud recesses lectures. Summary: Y/N is a private dancer at a Gentleman's Club called Medusa. Noah Sebastian is a crime boss. Their paths cross when one night, Noah pays for one of her dances and they can't seem to be apart from each other.

Noah was sitting on his chair in his office when he heard three knocks on the door. Telling the person behind it to come in, he saw Jolly with an envelope on his hands.

"Hey, this was left on the front door not too long ago. No one saw who delivered it and we didn't want to open it because it's addressed to you", he said, making his way into the office and handing Noah the envelope over the table.

"Well, I don't usually receive letters", he responded, with an edge of suspicion in his voice. "I'm gonna open it. Thank you, Jolly"

The other man nodded, and said if he needed anything, they were available, leaving and closing the door behind him. Noah looked over the envelope, seeing that it was indeed addressed to him, his full name written on the front. Flipping it over, there was nothing else written on the back.

Ripping the envelope open and taking out a piece of paper, he saw it was a handwritten letter. He unfolded it and began to read.

I know what you've been doing, lover boy. To be fair, she is a pretty little thing. I wouldn't be able to let her out of my eyesight either. Is she in your eyesight now? What do you think she is doing? Well, too bad whores don't always have a happy ending. Take care, JC.

Noah was used to receiving threats, they're not uncommon in his life and he has send out a few of his own. But they were always directed at him or one of the boys. But this one was a direct message to you.

His hands were shaking and he had to take his coat off because he suddently felt like he couldn't breath. He had to stop and think about what you were doing right now. It was night and you were probably at work. He had to get there as soon as possible. He couldn't afford to think that it was too late.

Before he got the chance to stand and make his way out, his phone rang. It was you. He picked up in a haste and wasn't able to get a word out before you were talking to him.

"Noah, oh my God. He sent me a threat, here, at work. I don't know what to do", he heard the desperation in your voice and he could tell you've been crying.

"I know, I got one as well. Listen, where are you right now?", he tried to talk as quickly as he can, not wanting to waste anymore time. Already grabbing his coat and wallet, making his way out of the room.

"I'm in the room where I usually meet clients. The envelope was on the chair and no one saw who delivered it. How can people not see someone coming in and out, Noah?", you said in disbelief.

"I need you to stay there. Are there keys on the door for you to lock them?"

"No, they don't leave the keys here for our safety. Noah, are you coming here?", your voice was small and he felt a pang in his chest.

"Yes, I'm on my way, honey. Stay on the phone with me, I'm not hanging up until I get there", he looked around and spotted one of his security guards, demanding that they check the security footage on the front door and yard. Running out of the door and getting in his car.

You went quiet, the only indicator that you were still on the line was your heavy breathing. The sound of a car speeding filling your ears.

"Noah, he called me a whore" you broke the silence and also his heart.

"You're not a whore, he only said those things to get to you. Don't let him get to you", he wished he could teleport to you and engulf you in his arms right this moment.

"He said no one cares about whores like me. I mean, he isn't wrong. All I'm good for is shaking my ass for some cash. If I'm gone tomorrow, they're just gonna replace for another pretty girl", you couldn't help but let your thoughts roam out loud.

"Please, don't say those things about yourself. I care about you and I'm coming to get you and nothing is gonna happen, ok?", you answered softly and he heard you take a sharp intake of breath on the other side. "I'm pulling up outside. I'll be there in a minute, don't worry. Can you meet me at the back entrance?"

"Yeah, I'll get my bag and meet you there", you answered, getting up from your position on the couch.

"Can't you come straight to the back entrance? I don't want you roaming around in there anymore than you need to", he tried not to be too paranoid as to not alarm you anymore. But every second that went by with you not by his side, was another second of him wondering if you were ok.

"Noah, I'm currently wearing a bra and panties. I have to get my bag. I'll stay on the phone", he didn't like it, but agreed nonetheless and told you to be quick.

In about three minutes, he saw you leaving. You spotted his car instantly and ran to it, getting in the passenger seat. He got your bag from your hands and put it in the backseat. You could feel the tension leaving your body as soon as you were in Noah's presence, finally feeling some sense of security.

"Noah, what am I gonna do?", you asked, running your hands over your face.

"You won't have to do anything. This is on me and I'm gonna keep you safe. You won't have to worry about that", you got a good look at him and realized that he actually thought this was his fault.

"This is not on you. I texted you, telling you to come here so I could give you the information. I fell into this by myself", you tried to reason.

"And I went to your house and gave you my number", he was unwavering and you decided that it wasn't worth it arguing about whose fault it was at the moment. "I'm gonna take you to a safehouse. I'm not gonna take you to my house because I got a note delivered there as well, so it isn't 100% safe", you only nodded, trying to grasp how your life did a complete 180 in just a few hours.

As he drove, he made a few calls, informing everyone of what's happened and giving orders of things he needed done. Not too long after, you were leaving civilization behind and all you could see were trees lininig the gravel road.

Noah took a right turn, the forest getting denser now, only giving way to the car driving through the marked path. You looked up through the windshield and you could barely see the sky above the top of the trees.

Stopping at a gate, you noticed a few men around the perimeter, all carrying guns on their hands and their holsters. You tried not to think about it. Just after the gate, Noah parked the car in front of a small wood cabin. Despite all those men outside and the situation you were in, you could admit that the place was beautiful.

Noah got out of the car and you followed suit, you noticed the wind was chilly and the air was clean. You looked up once again and as the trees swished from the gusts of air, you could see the sky was littered with stars.

"It's nice out here. I wish we were here under different circumstances, but I hope you enjoy the scenery anyways", he said, your bag was in his hands and you only nodded and gave a small smile. He led the way to the entrance. The lock was automatic, it read his fingerprint and you heard it unlock. You figured this place was only simple from the outside. It is a safehouse after all.

He got in and dropped your bag on a small table by the door. You looked around and there was a living room to your right and the kitchen to your left, a dining table between the two spaces.

"The bathroom is at the end of the corridor, your room is the door on the left and mine the door on the right", he pointed forward and you could see the doors leading to the rooms and the bathroom.

"I think I'm gonna take a shower", you looked at him and saw that he was taking his coat off, a simple black tank top underneath, revealing his tattooed arms and shoulders. For a second you were distracted by the way he moved. His biceps flexing as he reached up to hang his coat. His hair getting in his face, he pushed it out of his eyes as he turned around to aknowledge you.

"Yeah, are you hungry? I can make us something to eat", he totally caught you checking him out if the smirk on his face was any indicator.

"Sure, I'll be right back", you tried to get out of the situation as fast as possible. You just received a death threat, you did not need to have a crush on this man. Grabbing your bag, you made your way to the bathroom and locked the door.

Noah stayed in the living room, making sure everything was in it's place. He had someone come here and clean up every week, but he still wanted to check. He made his way to the bedroom you were going to be staying at. There were clean sheets and pillowcases already on the bed, so he didn't have to worry abou that.

Opening the fridge he started on the task of making you something to eat. A sub would have to suffice for now. He would get someone to pick up groceries later. He heard the bathromm door open and seconds later you came walking into the living room. You hair was wet and he could smell your perfume freshly applied. You were wearing a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie, looking rather comfortable.

You sat down in one of the chairs on the dining table. "What's on the menu for tonight?", you asked, trying to make light of the situation. You felt safe here and figured there was not much you could worry about for now.

He approached the table with one plate in each hand. "I made us a sandwich, I hope that's okay? I'll get someone to buy groceries so we can eat some actual food", he set one plate in front of you and sat down across the table.

"It's perfect, thank you", you really were grateful and you hoped he knew that. After a couple of bites, you couldn't contain your curiosity any longer. "What's gonna happen now?", you asked him.

"You'll have to stay here until we can get this problem solved", he answered, and you could tell he was holding something back.

"And how are you gonna get this problem solved?", you inquired. You felt like you knew how, but you wanted him to talk to you, you needed some sense of clarity amidst all this darkness.

He sighed out loud, setting his sandwich down on his plate and preparing himself to say this to you. He didn't want you knowing anymore than necessary, but since you were already dragged into this, the least he could do is be sincere with you.

"There's this group, you could say they're our competition. They want to take over the bussiness in the city and in order to do that, they have to eliminate my friends and I", you flinched when said "eliminate", he noticed, but continued nonetheless. "When I went to Medusa the first time we met, it was a recommendation from my friend, he said I needed a scape from this situation. Some of our shipments were stolen, some came with only half of the supplies and others disappeared all together. I was kind of losing my mind"

You were paying close attention to his words, he wasn't specific and you were curious about what they shipped from overseas, but refrained from asking. "That day I went to your house, we were at the port talking to our supplier when their group attacked us. They took us off guard but we were able to get out of there with only minor injuries", you smiled, knowing he was talking about Jolly and the fact that you patched him up that night.

"We think that was a test for what's to come", he said this part lower, half hoping you weren't going to hear him or that you wouldn't question it. That was proved wrong when you asked what that means as soon as the words left his lips.

"We have a big shipment coming soon, the biggest of the year. And we think that what you heard at the club can be a reference to that. They're gonna strike again, but this time they're gonna do it for real"

Noticing you were uneasy about this information, he tried to comfort you. "Thanks to you, now we are prepared and we can anticipate what is coming our way. You really helped us." He reached across the table to take your hand in his and give it a squeeze.

You appreciated the way he always tried to take care of your emotions, and even though you were in this situation now, you decided that you did the right thing by telling him what you heard.

When he went to your house unannounced, it made you so angry that you didn't see the way he took care of people around him. He was there because he was worried about one of his best friends. And now he is here with you because he is worried about you. You felt your heart soften for him more and more.

You both finished your sandwiches in silence, but it was comfortable rather than awkward, and you missed the warmth of his hand on top of yours.

You tried to take the plates to the sink to wash them, but Noah didn't let you, telling you to go to the living room instead, and pick something for you to watch and that he'll join you in a few minutes.

You saw an array of DVD's on the shelves on both sides of the TV. You tried to steer clear of any romantic movies or horror movies, so you picked My Neighbor Totoro, one of your favorites. You heard Noah let a hum of appreciation from behind you, pleased with your choice.

You noticed he sat two blankets on the couch, one for you and one for him. The couch wasn't too big, but still, you sat on one end of it and he sat on the other.

"I wish we had popcorn now", you noted and pouted a little.

"I'll make sure to add it to the list", he chuckled a little at your disappointment towards the lack of popcorn.

You both got quiet and settled into your spots to watch the movie. Halfway through, you could feel you eyelids getting heavier, sleep seeping into your body that has finally calmed down from the events of the day.

Noah looked over at you and saw your eyes closed, soft breaths leaving through your nose. He admired you for a few seconds, looking so soft bundled up under your blanket, so different from the tough woman that greeted him on your doorstep just a couple of days ago.

Het let you nap for a while, not wanting to disturb you, but as he started feeling tired himself, he decided it was smart to move to the bedroom. He tried to shake you awake, calling your name softly, but you stirred a little and went right back to sleep. He smiled to himself.

Decided to not leave you on the couch and risk you waking up with a stiff neck, he grabbed your legs and waist from under the cover, lifting you up with ease and carrying you to the bedroom. You arms instinctively went around his neck and you head rested on his shoulder. He shivered a little from your touch, but tried to not think about it.

You were under so much stress and he didn't want to feel inappropriate around you. You were beautiful and he couldn't deny his attraction towards you. But now wasn't the time to act on it. Maybe when this was all over, you would let him take you out on a date.

Setting you on the bed and covering you from head to toe, he smoothed you hair from your face. He closed the curtains so you wouldn't wake up with the sun in your eyes. Taking one last look at you, he softly closed the door behind him and went to his own room to rest for the night.

my last post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but why i headcanon jiang cheng as being aroace really has nothing to do with his colour palette (okay maybe a little to do with that), and more to do with how he clearly centers platonic relationships in his life.

like this does not apply in the untamed and the added romantic subplot with wen qing (which i have complex and not entirely positive feelings about tbqh), but in all other versions the only relationships that we see mattering to him at all are the ones with his siblings, parents, and nephew. and it's not that he doesn't have the opportunity to pursue a romantic partner (even with how busy he is... other characters are just as busy and they still find the time for romantic relationships...), he just doesn't have an interest in it.

for all his unpleasantness, jiang cheng really cares about his family, and he puts a lot of effort into looking after them, protecting them, and just plain spending time with them. and from the way he behaves, i think it's obvious that he gets the fulfillment he needs purely through those relationships.

what makes this headcanon a bit sad is that jiang cheng also deals with similar struggles that aroace people face, because while he consistently prioritises his platonic relationships, the allo people he's prioritising in his life do not do the same to him. with jin ling it's different, because he's jin ling's care-taker/quasi-parent, jin ling doesn't owe him anything and jiang cheng really doesn't expect that from him (except maybe keeping himself safe and fucking listening to jiang cheng for once in his life goddammit!!! but like yk). but with jiang yanli and wei wuxian, his siblings, people he views as equal partners?

i am not saying that jiang yanli and wei wuxian don't care about jiang cheng, they do they do they do care for him so much! but they also have romantic partners. jiang yanli moves out to live with jin zixuan, so she's not around every day. wei wuxian is always chasing after lan wangji, and leaving jiang cheng behind. regardless of how much jiang cheng wants for his siblings to be happy, it still hurts to be the one left. idk i feel like that is a pretty relatable part of the aroace experience, and it felt pretty poignant with jiang cheng.

aroace!jc isn't necessarily angsty for me tho, especially post-canon, after he's had time to heal and rebuild xx

HOMETOWN GIG!!! was very excited and kind of anxious, so happy they were playing here

Sector 5's frontman got a tiara, the band has really been accepted by the fandom now <3

the crowd loved them and also started chanting for JC Stewart

Bojan took the tiara with the veil and was like “oh this must be for Kris right? Because Kris is a princess!” and then put it on Krisʼs head

everyone booed when Bojan had to take the fairy wings off again

he went to look for the fairy wings for Metulji and then also gave Jan a headband with butterflies on it or sth? And then said “let's make a serious song unserious!”

cracked up during Metulji again because people at the front started doing the macarena (sadly it didn't get as bad as Leipzig, I was kinda hoping for that)

Bojan also didn't take off the fairy wings for Everybody's Waiting so we got it with fairy Bojan which looked very funny

they were supposed to play Bluza but people started yelling for Schlager/Behind Those Eyes (which kinda makes sense for Cologne because the melody is very reminiscent of an old Schlager song that's very well known here) and Bojan went “wait. should we play Schlager?” and the guys were just like “yeah, whatever” so they changed the setlist and played Schlager and Bojan said that they've never seen such a reaction before

Bojan also said they kinda forgot that Schlager is an established thing and genre here lol

I said “thankfully Bojan isn't next to me during umazane misli this time!” to my friend, only to turn to my right side and see the sector 5 guys pushing their way through the crowd right next to me 🫠

joined Jan in doing the macarena during UM so I literally missed everything that Bojan was doing and didn't listen at all to the people who were singing, ooops

Bojan went on stage again, people started pointing to the sector 5 singer, Bojan exclaimed “ARE YOU THE SECTOR 5 SINGER???” and gave him the microphone so that he could sing umazane misli too (<3)

Kris was very stoic throughout the gig, boy was not smiling at all, I think he was pretty tired but idk

Jan came out, talked to us, went back into the bus to leave some stuff, came out again, and then said “oh I want to talk to the sector 5 guys again” and a few minutes later I saw them enthusiastically playing flunkyball down the road (drinking game)

they changed tourbuses which was really funny because we came back from getting food and suddenly there were two tourbuses next to each other and we were really confused (the new one is taking them to Slovenia after the Italy gigs, no idea what they're gonna do for the UK leg)

Jin Ling & his Xiao Shushu appreciation, 'cause I don't see enough of it.

Remember that Jin Ling avoided LWJ like plague 'cause he was scared of him shitless, to the point that when WWX fake called Hanguang-Jun he ran without even looking back literally seconds after WWX pulled the same trick on him with JC 'cause he didn't want to risk looking back just in case it was actually HGJ, but he stood against Hanguang-Jun AND sect leader Lan when he thought they were invading his Xiao Shushu's room? Only Jiggy's own intervention made him back down.

& IDK maybe the reason Jin Ling was there at that time was that it was the family section. But since Fairy wasn't with him, maybe he was visiting his uncle. & I find it hard to imagine, like, say, WWX visiting Jiang Fengmian or Lan Sizhui visiting Zewu-Jun or the Lan brothers visiting Lan Qiren in the middle of the night in their private chambers unless something very important has happened. I think according to the standards of their time, they must have been very close for this visit to happen.

Running to Xiao Shushu 'cause JiuJiu is angry with him & adorably hiding behind him 'cause Xiao Shushu spoils him.

Defending Xiao Shushu and having a firm belief that whatever he says is for Jin Ling's own good even in the face of his cool uncle after the rush of winning a fight against a group of his all-time bullies.

Still using the affectionate term "Xiao Shushu"even when confronting him about why would he kill his father, begging him to "say something". Give him anything to make it a little bit less painful.

Jin Ling looking so hurt when Jiggy says that JGS didn't let him hold Jin Ling as though he can't imagine a world in which his uncle is not allowed to hold him. Not being allowed to hold JL being a notable part of JGY's villain origin story.

Jin Ling screaming for Jiggy to run even after Jiggy took him hostage. And all the other shit.

(It's worth mentioning that in the books, Jiggy doesn't push JL out of danger and JL still screams for him to run, and he still calls him uncle instead of Sect Leader as he does in the show. It's also worth mentioning that the show made some stunning choices in the Guaniyn temple scene regardimg JGY & JL. As half of the things I'm saying about that scene here only happened in the show.)

Jin Ling's shoulders shivered. He shut his eyes and covered his ears, too afraid to keep watching and listening.

And my favorite scene that emotionally crushed me: Jin Ling remembering when his uncle gave him little Fairy & mourning his uncle & becoming the hero of the nation who finally told Sect Leader Yao to kindly go fuck himself. 'Cause he told him that his uncle was not worth his tears. Jin Ling thinking that they wouldn't dare to tell him such bullshits if his uncle were still alive. Baby Jin Ling feeling so comfortable around the sect leader and the Chief Cultivator that he could break things beside his feet and scream at him, and his uncle just understanding that he needs to leave him alone at that moment, his Xiao Shushu being the only one who could comfort him and make him happy at that point, his Xiao Shushu giving him his spiritual dog & one of his rare actual, geniune smiles that was so warm & kind that Jin Ling remembers to that day, this happy memory being the one that Jin Ling remembers Jiggy with after all the things he learnt in the span of two days. Him acknowledging that Jiggy's love for him was geniune and real & still choosing to continiue to love his uncle despite everything. Him learning that he can't really resent JGY, WWX or WN 'cause though they gave him reasons for that, they also gave him reasons against that. They gave him reasons to love them. And why choose hate when you can...not choose that. Him breaking a cycle of hate that few of the adults of the story did not drown in. And it must mostly be Jiang Yanli's legacy, but it also proves that Jiang Cheng & Jin Guangyao, despite their own numerous issues did something right raising such a child. He feels so secure in their love. And he's right in that feeling.

Hello, anon! Perhaps I will also link Pursued by Lesser Ghosts for context, since it took me so long to answer this ask. (You do need an AO3 account to read it.) It's wangxian with left zhanchengxian. Left in the sense that both chengxian and zhancheng had previously occurred, and they have left Jiang Cheng behind! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

In my heart, they figure it out, but I’m never going to write that because they are all in WILDLY different places and that would take... so long. This is partly what makes it interesting to rotate to me, because I think it’s a situation where the way any of the people involved would describe the facts in a relatively similar and nonchalant way, but their intellectual frameworks for the facts and emotional experience of the facts are so wildly disconnected that getting all three on the same page would be, uh, challenging. Rough character notes below.

Wei Wuxian:

Feels like JC should be mad at him, since he projects guilt about JYL already on to JC. additionally hates JFM’s treatment of JC but in total denial about both what the treatment means and how he feels about it. LWJ’s rejection and replacement of JC with WWX is going to trigger all of that BECAUSE it brings WWX's past understanding of JC into conflict with his current understanding of JC.

In the past, WWX’s JC feelings were positive; therefore any negative treatment by JFM had to be denied (and also Fixed by WWX).

WWX’s JC feelings are now negative, partly because of the projection and self-blame, and partly because of ongoing resentment about the core transfer (VERY traumatic plus the feeling like that degree of devotion and sacrifice was not reciprocated).

The emotional experience of REPLACING JC AGAIN is an experience that belongs to WWX’s childhood self, who loved JC and was extremely possessive and protective of him (the JZX beatdown was triggered finally by the insult about JC).

Also triggers memories of childhood > adulthood intimacies (some degree of sexual contact as teenagers that both of them “forgot about”).

WWX also terminally unable to leave shit alone, and now there’s a mystery about HIS HUSBAND and HIS SHIDI.

LWJ is just like “oh we had sex sometimes” but JC is a prude who doesn’t do that and only lets WWX touch him??? This is not a sufficient answer for WWX??? [meltdown]

CONFLICT CONFLICT CONFLICT KABOOM

Jiang Cheng:

I mean, Mr. Abandonment and Betrayal Issues got some feedback about what had happened, and that feedback was “it was duty, I never loved you like you loved me, let me go” (WWX) PLUS “now that the person who is better than you, who I really love, is here, I will replace you with him and never look back because you are Bad” (LWJ).

On one hand, closure! On the other hand, what if every childhood belief and fear about yourself all came true at once? Wouldn't that be fun? (I mean, the ones which had not already happened and left most of your family dead.)

Like he worked so hard to be good for love (root of childhood issues -> “if I am very good maybe dad will love me eventually and mom will finally be happy”) and this functions as proof that it has NEVER culminated in that love being returned.

I also don’t know how much he was aware of LWJ’s fixation on WWX before/during the time they were sleeping together. how blindsided he feels would change depending on that.

Also will blame himself for it (see childhood coping mechanisms… so abandonment by LWJ is “his fault” because he “should have expected it”).

He is. He is not doing so good. Genuinely bad to contemplate and I don’t know how you fix that, like, degree of damage.

He also Never Gives Up and JL is still alive so he’s not going to kill himself but like. it ain’t good.

Lan Wangji:

To me, this is the chewiest problem. Because he has these rigid categories of “good” and “bad” but is also missing a lot of information about what happened between JC and WWX (such as the fake fight/removal from the sect), he's made up his mind but it's based on incomplete information.

Also like, he's not particularly empathetic (so questions like “how would you feel if someone you unconditionally trusted accidentally killed your beloved sibling?” are ones he has perhaps never contemplated?)

IMO this intersects in a pretty ugly way with his canon sadism during the period he has a sexual relationship with JC. I would have to make some decisions about how bad that was, but I don’t think it’s good. I think JC goes along with it partly as a form of self-harm and partly because JC is under a lot of stress, touch-starved, and is genuinely pretty submissive in bed? But has no standards about it (healthy!) and doesn't know how to protect himself.

Initially this is fine to LWJ because it “doesn’t count” and “JC is bad” so LWJ doesn’t have to feel bad about how he treats JC.

But if it was a multi-year intermittent thing, I think that might change? Because I don’t think LWJ is actually that cruel, just inflexible and not great at people.

So they hook up semi-often and LWJ perceives JC worrying about JL, about YMJ, and to some degree about him (offers him salve for his scars, inquires semi-rudely about family, feeds him thoughtful vegetarian foods when around each other) and they get comfortable and sometimes they spend the night together and LWJ gets a lot less mean but not any better at talking…

But even as their behaviours change, LWJ’s mental model doesn’t, so when WWX returns, he just, like, ditches JC without any discussion whatsoever.

And he gets everything he thought he wanted!! And he’s happy about a lot of it but feels Weird in a way that he can’t articulate or explain.

So to get him to the throuple, his whole understanding of what they were doing with each other and what JC’s behaviour signified would have to change. On the other hand, he is now married to the nosiest and most determined man in the world and that man is going to ask him a LOT of questions.

He just has SO far to go. I think both WWX and JC at least understand that a loss happened, but LWJ hasn’t worked that out yet. He's feeling it, but hasn't been able to articulate it to himself because of how it conflicts with his beliefs.

So getting them all to kiss would be really hard work. I think they do, though!

It's not like 'BaoShan SanRen' can create a Core for you. You should have learned enough Core Theory to know that. Logically, then, your Core has to come from another person. Wei WuXian, you should also explain exactly who will be playing the part of your mother's grandmaster." You promised!" Wei WuXian turned an accusing glare at the doctor. 15. What are some of your favorite tropes to write?

Oh, I always use the same tropes such as Pregnancy, Childbirth, Fluff and Domestic Bliss (+Sibling Incest, obviously, because I write for JC 😂). I'm big sucker for all these tropes tbh, and that's lowkey what I want to find when I read a fic, especially Fluff and Domestic Bliss because why not giving them happiness after everything they are going through in canon? And so, if someone is looking for the same things, they can always give a shot to my fics.

18. Is there some headcanon you've included in more than one fic?

Hmmm, Cersei being very protective of Jaime? And the fact she tried to protect him when she went behind his back for the Golden Company. I used it mostly in "give you my wild, give you a child" tho, not that much in other fics, but yeah she is very protective of him overall.

Also, Joanna accepting more easily their relationship? I have that headcanon she would see how they could turn a wedding between Jaime and Cersei into their own advantages. She def comes to term with it in the Teen Pregnancy AU, and I briefly mentioned how she had schemed to get them married in the fic I posted yesterday.

22. Pick out a random line from a fic you're really proud of

Okay, I had a line from "grieving for the living" that I was really proud of, but I can't find it anymore 😭 so this one, from the same fic:

Sometimes, she presses her forehead against the window and sees the contours of his perfect face through the icy glass. Her head plays tricks and she allows herself to believe he is back for a brief moment, but it's only the ghost of her own reflection, a painful reminder she is still breathing and they didn't leave this world together as they were supposed to.

School for Good and Evil AU (finally)

So, a little premise is due: I have only seen the movie, but the book is in my to-read list, so don't crucify me.

Also, I have seen the poll results and we really are a hivemind fandom lol

So, AU under the cut!

As said, JC and WWX live in LP a quiet, boring life. Yanli is there as well as their elder sister and it's okay, except it's not. Somehow NHS, the local librarian (?), mentions the existence of the School for Good and Evil, because WWX spots one of the books marked with the school's logo and he is like "WHAT IS THAT?"

And NHS is more than happy to explain.

Now, because I want to keep the wuxia/xianxia elements, I will say that the School for Good is where all of the classic heroes/heroines in wuxia/xianxia are trained, with good cultivation and righteous paths and all, and the School for Evil is where the wuxia/xianxia villains, with like demonic cultivation, crooked path and all, are trained.

So, WWX is hellbent on going to this School for Good and Evil out of curiosity, boredom and all - "you mean, I will be able to invent stuff, fight villains, be someone everyone can be proud of, and also, ChengCheng, Aunt Yu will not be scolding me all the time! It's a win"

"Yeah, sure, but how do you think I-, I mean, a-jie will take it? Also, did you not promise me we'd be together as sworn brothers?"

"... Yeah, I did... You know, forget I said it, I'll go wherever you will go!"

And then WWX breaks his promise and JC goes to find him, just to discover that he is going to the School for Good and Evil leaving everyone behind and JC in particular behind and JC is not thrilled.

Their conversation is cut short by the humongous bird coming down and grabbing them both and then flying all the way to the school.

Now, WWX is really a tad too much arrogant, which is usually toned down by his massive caring heart, but it's there nonetheless and he is so sure he will be in the Good school.

JC, on the other side, really just wants to go back home dragging back WWX and wants to have nothing to do with any school.

And WWX sees the Good school, high in the sky, full of nice trees and all like

And then he sees the Evil School, all shrouded in darkness and smoke like

and WWX smiles until the aforementioned bird drops him off in the Evil school, much to WWX's disappointment and JC's distress.

JC gets dropped off at the Good School.

And both WWX and JC hate it.

They both raise hell, but it is useless. WWX gets draped in wuxia villain red and black robes and given the Red Eyeliner of Evilness, whilst JC gets draped in the fanciest wuxia hero robes and given the Righteous Sword to Smite Evilness.

Neither of them are thrilled.

Cue WWX angry-pouting and JC sarcastically frowning.

There is the whole parade thing and here we meet the Perfect Hero Lan Wangji, all draped in white and light blue, sword in one hand and guqin floating in front of him.

WWX sees him and he is smitten, completely fallen in love.

On the other hand, LWJ and JC immediately hate each other's guts.

Soon after we meet Rector LQR, followed by Good School's professor LXC and Evil School's professor WC.

Once again WWX and JC try to present their case, that there has been a mistake, but it seems that "the School has not made any mistakes".

ep50 (4/4): super special extra reunion post time

I've said this already but for the uninitiated: I was a dumb idiot watching this for the first time and when this shot appeared I got all excited because for a split second I thought. I thought wwx was on one knee. like to propose 😭 obviously for several reasons that was not what was happening but I always think of it when they cut to this shot

ahh they're in the green of summer. growing things, life. not going towards winter. maybe the colors and season was why I think of jc and wwx's relationship as ending, but wwx and lwj's as persisting. that color symbolism is powerful

oh god those mountains are so gorgeous behind them

see he's wearing that patchy blue-black robe set from before! this could not have POSSIBLY been all in the same day.

anyway, bittersweet but ultimately for the best. not just wwx leaving to find some equilibrium in this world he's come back to, but lwj feeling the full force of his own affection and parting with wwx anyway. not exactly the same situation as lwj's parents were in, but significant all the same. wwx needs to be loved and cherished, but he also needs to be free. commitment (a collar) was something he feared in his previous life, and I don't think it's a stretch to say even now he's jumpy about it. after years of persecution and violence, letting him feel everything he needs to, establish himself in the world, and then come back when he's ready is one of the best things he can do for himself. staying in CR for a few weeks to rest and get ready to go back on the road made sense, but several things in cql point to CR not being wwx's preferred permanent home, especially the way this finale played out

lwj looks so beautiful in these shots my goodness. and he's not wearing all white anymore :)

wwx and lwj (and this shot) are SO dramatic I'm sure they didn't need to do All That. and yet they did. and I'm happy for it

this must be a fragment of conversation from the walk up. I think wwx does know - he's teasing, and lwj is reassuring - yes, I know it. I've known it for a long time. I'll tell you, when you come back

one of the most formative pieces of meta I've read described the name of the song as lwj's confession piece, which is why I always find it odd that postcanon fics don't often incorporate it. I guess if you're not worried about censorship, you can just have them make out. but it's such an elegant and thematically appropriate mechanism of confession, and the deep significance it holds to the characters make it especially suitable. that's how I envision the confession happening

back to wwx after an unspecified amount of time, but definitely not the same day unless wwx very quickly and without stopping his music changed clothes. I think, minimum three months, max 12 . probably more like 6-8

reading get-togethers, I always get nervous about him standing right near the cliff edge. what if he falls! but he's easily 10 ft away from the edge so I guess I can rest my heart

on that topic, there's not much cover for them. if they wanna fuck it's going to be right out in the open. unless they pitch a tent or something ig

but honestly, if they never so much as kissed before this, they're probably going to take their time getting closer. they jumped right into intimacy in the book but even with their more consistent relationship here I think it would take a while. if they DID kiss in ep43, maybe not quite so long, but it's not like there's a rush. they're together, they'll go at their own pace. I feel like a lot of fics rush it, but sometimes the journey fun and exciting all on its own

What if on some random night hunt, both wwx and jc get deaged to somewhere probably around the CR studies.

It is seriously troubling for everyone, especially the boy who still have their adult bodies. jc can tell this core isn't his. It being stronger was indeed a bit worrying when he wasn't explained what happened, but he somehow also could tell it /wasn't his/.

wwx on the other side saw his reflection in sandu and was shocked when he couldn't recognise himself but also felt much weaker than what he remembered "of the day before".

It takes a lot of calming down from the juniors and attempts at explaining who they are today (leaving the trauma on the side for now).

The thing is, they are still in the middle of solving some problems and the two "young" cultivators are more than happy to help despite being so troubled ("I trust we can fix it later" wwx said as jc rolled his eyes at his lack of care).

And this is how the juniors see for the first time what the duo was like before everything was shattered. They are so close to one another, fighting rather well despite the balance now being messed up (they somehow still manage to balance it well enough).

Back to the inn, everyone is surprised by how jc acts (even jl, who has only known jiujiu post-I-lost-everything-but-you). This is such a contrast from the fierce and severs looking sect leader they know (even tho the quartet has learned to know he can be nice and loving too).

wwx isn't 100% out of character, although he might be a bit less drunk than usual and a whole lot flirty with jc (which does make the juniors a bit unsure of what is happening.) of course, the ymj sect was immediately warned of what happened, so no one would be surprised of seeing their dear sect leader like this.

of course, lwj is also warned of the situation (as if they could let hgj in the dark about his husband). So while they all have that fun at the inn, you have ymj SIC and lwj on their way to them to make sure their respective reason of worries is alright.

meanwhile, the juniors are still stuck to deal with a wwx who is somehow more mischievous than before and a jc who is actually ready to /follow him/ in these ideas.

It is a strange evening for the juniors than to deal with these men who they look up to but are now basically around their age. But as no one has reached them yet for help, they decide that staying at the inn would be better. After all, it is close to where everything happened and they actually have yet to fully deal with what has been causing problems to this village.

They were going to take three rooms (thankfully to jl money, the juniors could share the biggest room here), but wwx asked why three when he and jc can share one. It takes a bit of arguing, only for jl to give in because he cannot argue against jiujiu telling him it would be stupid to spend on a room that isn't even needed.

So they now have two rooms and the juniors are a bit nervous about it.

What if they suddenly get back to normal in the middle of the night? Would they be alright in the same room?

"But don't you think senior way and sect leader jiang are strangely... very close to one another?" oyz ends up asking after a while.

Sure, they all had heard about how close the two had been in the past, but they felt like people had forgotten to tell them about how they seemed to flirt together?! This isn't right, especially since now, wwx is married to hgj!!

little did they know that wwx and jc had actually been pining for /years/ in the past.

it was Jiang "I am not enough he can find better" Cheng and Wei "I know jc doesn't see me as a servant but I still cannot be his for this reason" Ying being an absolute idiot. They had experienced together, mostly because they trusted each other in trying those, hiding behind it only being experiments and everyone does that yes, it wasn't because they were in love with each other.

These are the same idiots who most likely still had romantic love for each other, but had too much baggage at this point to go on with it.

But now you have them away from anything that could have been a cause of worries and a reminder of why they "couldn't". Sure, in their mind, it was only yesterday that yzy would have wiped wwx at the thought of his sleeping with her son, or that jfm was always putting wwx first.

But they also understood that now, no one would do such a thing. Now they would probably be side by side (and the role was probably reversed in the public eyes).

Now they were away and could a bit more easily indulge. especially in an inn.

They were happy to finally be in their room after checking out. Despite technically being the youngest of the group now, the juniors were still looking up for their opinions and also making sure they were alright. the duo was more than happy to finally be alone.

the moment they were in, wwx slapped a silencing talisman on the door, turning to jc with a grin, starting to tease him again about how he has been acting since earlier with the kids.

it ends up with them playfully arguing until jc finally pushes wwx to the bed and pins him down on it. It surprises them a bit all the ease it took jc to do it, after all, to them it wasn't so long ago that they were to the same strength, both physically and in cultivation. wwx laugh at this, since he was usually the one to pin jc down on a bed "A-cheng has gotten so strong" he praised with a grin.

jc shut him up with a kiss, wwx more than happy to indulge, pulling him closer.

It is a bit weird, since this is jc older body, while wwx simply did not have his at all. Yet it was as if they didn't care for any of it, as long as it was them it would always be alright (plus jc would lie if he said this body wasn't attractive too, even if differently).

hands soon start to roam over unfamiliar skin, slowly taking robes away so they can have direct access to the skin. fingers run over scares for which they do not know the history (and honestly they don't want to know right now).

After a while wwx ends up flipping them over, grinning when he is finally atop jc, kissing along his neck down his chest (giving some love to those harsh scars on his chest, feeling like he has an idea where they come from, yet he pushes it far away).

wwx in this body isn't as strong as jc, yet he lets him take over, letting wwx do as he wishes, more than happy that they can finally have this moment for them, knowing he will have all the time he wants to do whatever he wants with wwx too.

the night goes on like this, wwx taking all he wants and gladly letting jc take all he wants too.

To say the least, they didn't sleep much that night (which these older bodies do not seem to agree with).

when they meet again with the juniors, the group of young

man tries not to stare in disbelief and disapproval at the mark they may or may not have left visible on each other's neck (they might have gone a bit overboard with the knowledge of no one here to scold them). the lan juniors are a bit conflicted because they do not want for hgj to be destroyed by this (but lsz can easily see how happy this makes senior wei).

jl is in a way worried this will only end up hurting his jiujiu /again/. it is good to see him so happy, but what will it be like when they get back to normal? Will he be alone again?

and on the side oyz look about to go crazy over this new development.

it is so easy to catch on for the juniors, so of course, once they join the ymj SIC and lwj who are having tea downstairs at the inn while waiting for them, of course, they would notice it too (especially lwj, because he /knows/ he's not the one who put those mark here).

They know that both men had been deaged, but neither would have actually expected for something like this to happen. Sure, wwx and jc had a history of being really close, but none of them would have expected it to turn out like this. How could lwj have missed it in their youth?

it doesn't take long before the ymj SIC comes up to his sect leader, politely saluting him while presenting himself (he knows jc must have no idea who he is).

jc is a bit surprised by the action, still not used to the idea he was indeed a sect leader now (but also he had no memory of this man, had he been newer to LP?).

wwx give the man a glance, a bit unsure why /he/ wasn't the sic by jc sides (the juniors did tell them some of the history, but it never told him why he wasn't by jc sides anymore). then they looked at lwj who had approached wwx so suddenly, actually making him back off a little bit, not expecting for the man to come up to him so suddenly.

lwj clearly looks hurt for a moment, hand retracting as his eyes lingered on wwx neck and a couple of exposed marks. he looks displeased for a moment, yet no comments come and he goes back to his usual unexpressive face.

This does trouble wwx, looking back at the juniors who are greeting hgj politely. they have to explain again what happened the day before, saying they didn't have too much time to find out what happened since they had more pressing matters that they still hadn't fully taken care of yet.

"We are enough today that we can split, can't we?" jc asked. They were now 8, which included 2 that were actually older and more experimented now that they were both deaged.

"We could keep investigating here while you two go back to where everything happened" ljy suggested.

Every juniors agreed, not interested to be stuck in the weird and awkward situation that would happen once jc and wwx would go back to being close while lwj couldn't really do anything because this wasn't really the wwx he married (from what he understood, this wwx

was from a time when they barely even knew each other, he couldn't exactly expect wwx to accept so easily that they are husband now, doesn't stop from hurting when he sees what he sees).

I just went on the biggest blocking spree ever and now the CanonJiangCheng tag is back to how it was about a month ago. (Hey, Twitter JC Stans. You could do this too!)

But really, these are all teenagers and young adults right? Because I've been reading the posts before I block them and I see this kind of behaviour in the children that I work with. They see that someone else has something that they want so they try to take it with the assumption that they are entitled to have it too. And when they receive any pushback at all they resort to tantrum throwing, mocking and name calling.

Seriously, they could still use the tag and just block anybody they don't agree with. This attempt to 'take back' the tag from they vey people that created it and 'push out the anti's' screams of an naïve kind of arrogance that you typically see in very young children and self-centred teens. An arrogance that is usually outgrown in time.

Which leaves me to believe that none of these people have finished maturing. That or they are indulging in age regressed behaviour behind the safety of a screen. Because this kind of behaviour typically doesn't get a mature adult a lot of respect in real life.

I think it’s much more of the echo chamber than anything else. They’ve found a bunch of people who think the same as they do and they stop engaging with dissenting opinions in any way. Once they stop acknowledging that their interpretations don’t necessarily have a basis in canon and believe that their echo chamber is completely right, suddenly even the text itself is no longer something to trust, but a lie against the character that they’ve created in their circle.

To them, the jiang cheng that fills their posts, meta and fanfics is canon. I recognize that they genuinely think that we are the ones in the wrong for what we put in there. However I will not agree with them and I will not be chased out. I will simply continue using the tag in my own way to talk about Jiang Cheng as he is in MDZS, as I always have been since we created the tag.

Do people even realise that the one character who doesn't grow as a person in MDZS is Wei Wuxian?

It's nice he found a boyfriend and solved some murders, but, like, the man has not changed. And he needed to change, because his emotional hangups were what fucked him.over the first time around.

Wanting to 'leave it all behind' is not a sign of growth. It's exactly what he was doing before - leaving the bad things behind, because he didn't have emotional capacity to deal with them due to the way he was raised.

Telling JC that he lied to him because 'he couldn't deal with JC being upset' is not what an adjusted and 'grown' person does. A person that experienced emotional growth wouldn't throw the ball back to the person they've wronged. It's like saying 'I'm sorry you're upset' after fucking someone over.

He found love in a perfect man who will never do anything to upset him, good for him, but he's emotionally still in the same place he was before dying.

I kcan clearly see why the author chose the ending we got - it's easy to get carried away with the hype of the OTP. It's also a perfect last bittersweet beat in a genre that adores a bittersweet ending. It's also a nice clean plot break allowing any further stories to circle exclusively around the happy couple and their adventures. From the writing standpoint, you don't want to have an ending where everything is solved and everyone are happy, because that's considered too amateurish. And cultivator stories love their bittersweets!

But every time I see people going "JC didn't grow as a character" and then go through that ending, where WWX does the same thing he always did and hurts both parties involved, because he can't deal with emotional fallout... Come on.

There's something that I noticed about most of the deaths in CQL/MDZS:

Jin Zixuan: *stands between WWX & his bitch of a cousin* "A-Li is still waiting-...A-Li is still waiting for you at Golden Carp Tower."

Jiang Yanli:" A-Xian, before, why did you run so fast? I didn't even get the chance to look at you. Or say something to you. I'm here to say...I'm here to say..." *pushes Wei Wuxian away & dies saving him*

Wen Qing: "I'm sorry. And thank you." *gives herself and his dearer than eyesight brother up to save WWX. Says goodbye to his loved- ones and goes to her death with her head held high & gives a reassuring smile at Wen Ning while she hold his hand as they wait for their death.*

Yu ZiYuan: *gives up Zidian to JC and sends her kids away, in CQL kills herself when she sees that her husband has fallen, tries to reach for her husband, dies holding his hand and smiling at him.*

Jiang Fengmian: *sends his kids away, goes back for his wife, in his last moments he reaches his hand out to hold hers and dies holding her hand and smiling at her.*

Xue Yang: *risks his life by going to WWX and LWJ to try to save XXC, loses his temper for the first time in the fight when Lan Zhan takes XXC's soul's pouch, falls into WWX's tap when WWX says that he just wants to resurrect XXC to play more games with him and that the revenge he sought was bc of XXC, not himself, dies looking at XXC's candies as he holds them in his hands*

A-Qing: *dies helping LWJ to wound XY. Finally taking the revenge for XXC that she had sought for years.*

Song Lan: *finally finds XXC and seems nervous but determined to reconcile with him and ask him for forgiveness, fights Xue Yang because of him, falters when XY reminds him of what he said to XXC, loses the fight with XY when he calls XXC's name. In his last seconds hold out his sword to XXC in hopes that he can touch the sword's name.*

Wei WuXian (in the show): *smiles at LWJ and very softly calls his name and asks him yo let him go, smiles at JC and as his last words, very softly calls Jiang Cheng's name, closes his eyes and smiles while shedding tears in acceptance when he sees JC's anger and heartbreak, frees his hand out of LWJ's grip when he sees that LWJ might fall with him.*

Jin GuangYao: Er-ge, stay & die with me. *pushes Lan Xichen away* (closely followed by fuck you NMJ but it's not relevant rn.)

It's also true for the last scenes of the characters: Song Lan asks Wangxian to tell Xiao Xingchen that it wasn't his fault if they ever see him, the Wen remnants as fierce corpses save Lan Sizhiu & WWX & those with them and bid LSZ farewell, Lan Xichen leaves the story mourning JGY, Nie Huaisang takes JGY's cap with him before he leaves(in the book)/is affirmed to be the mastermind behind everything because he was seeking revenge for his brother (in CQL), Jin Ling decides that even though JGY, WWX & WN all had a hands on his father's death he can't hate them 'cause they've all given him reasons to be unable to. He then asks JC why he let WWX & LWJ go and asks him what was it that he had left unsaid, Jiang Cheng's last scene is him remembering his sacrifice for WWX and deciding that he can't reveal it to him for the same reason that WWX couldn't reveal his own sacrifice to him, in CQL he tells WWX to "take care.", Lan Sizhui remembers WWX from his childhood and they reminisce the past, he hugs WWX's leg and teases him about his PG-13 teachings to him back at that time, and he & Wen Ning, still happy to have found each other decide that they're going to bury the ashes of their people properly & Wen Ning declares that he's going to make his sister a cenotaph, Wangxian... get busy Wangxianning.

NMJ's death and last scene are mostly driven by hatred & anger & spite, but still, he comes to his right mind when NHS comes close and calls him as he qi deviates, and his fierce corpse kills SMS as NHS shouts for help, so I guess that kinda counts?

Fic ideas that keep me in a fog at inappropriate times throughout the day: Part 5b

-most awkward ride home EVER.

-LJY is in mourning, for his crush on JML has clashed with his regard for HGJ, and his heart to torn asunder . . . Or something, WWX tuned him out hours ago and concentrated very hard on smiling and teasing his husband like he always does. LWJ let’s him, even though he knows how forced it is. His mind keeps replaying the events of before and he falters a little because JML was just too much like JWY in that encounter. Is the resemblance to WY’s original body something he imagined? But he deliberates all the way home and concludes, no it is not his imagination but that leaves him with more questions than ever.

-convo between WWX and LWJ behind closed doors: WWX trying to hypothesize who JML’s mother could be and asking LWJ many times if he ever noticed JC with a women around the time WWX and the Wen Remnants settled down in the BM. LWJ waits out this nervous energy and when it is late at night and he has rigorously “everyday-ed” his husband, LWJ quietly reveals his thoughts to WWX. WWX thinking he’s having some sort of post coital auditory hallucination as it had been quite rigorous, and then laughing himself silly. Assures his husband that there was no way he fathered a child in that time, and especially not with Yu Xiuying, who is JC’s first cousin. And of course JML looks like her, she favours her father who inherited all the sharp beauty of his maternal family. Perhaps JC’s mystery woman had similar features to WWX and the rest is imagined on LWJ’s part. LWJ is happy to hear WWX deny ever having lain with any woman before, but more confused. He is not imagining the resemblance-it is clear as day to him. Husbands unable to come to a consensus, agree to sleep on it.

-sleep does not come easy-consensus does not come at all. One month goes by, and JML is set to arrive in CR soon. LQR has taken the reins on arrangements and warns his nephew many times that YMJ and GL are allies and it would be beneficial if both parties acted like it. LWJ does not know how to communicate to his uncle that he knows enough not to fight a girl in the middle of trade talks, especially a sect heir, and especially not one who is potentially his stepdaughter, so he just nods.

-WWX cannot believe LWJ is still insisting on his conspiracy theory regarding JML’s parentage, because the “WY often forgets things” does not apply to sexual encounters. WWX did not accidentally knock up an Yu and then forget about it. WWX remembers every moment of his history of intimacy in that life-and the only person WWX ever had in that way was JC. But he’s not about to say all that because he’s not inclined to think JC would forgive him if he just started handing out that information. Even the few times they had been face to face after his resurrection JC hadn’t brought it up. Even when WWX tried to lead him there, because taking that from JC and then leaving him is one of the sins against his shidi that would forever plague him but it seemed JC refused to remember it, let alone speak of it. WWX heard the unsaid warning in that and left it. There was just too much between them now for what happened then to take precedent over all the other things.

-JML rolls up to CR looking like this:

-That whip is beautiful and after greetings in which no body in either party causes an intersect incident, LQR compliments JML on her new weapon, a spiritual whip from her grandmother's clan. She had been absent during the Second Siege/Guanyin Temple clusterfuck because she had been sent to learn at the Yu sect and then ordered to remain there until JC called her home when everything began going to shit. JML is genuinely courteous to LQR, addresses him with respect and warmth, and even smiles a real smile at him, not a smirk. She thanks LQR for his compliments, gives the whip's name as being Heiyan. And though it doesn't quite retract into ring form like her father's Zidian, it comes directly to her hand when she calls it, no matter where it is. LWJ's left eye is trying to twitch minutely-Black Smoke, really? And WWX is trying to pick his jaw up off the floor, because while his memory is sometimes shit, his vanity in his last life had him secure in his good looks and the reflection checks bore that out-he knows how dashing his smile was; he knew how disarming it was, because that's what he used to use it for-disarming.

-that smile on JML's face, that wasn't JC's smile. For all the other ways in which she looked exactly like her father, like her grandmother come back to life, this one thing was not from JC. That was WWX's smile. And WHAT THE FUCK DID THAT MEAN?

-Trade talks go: LQR-valid point, JML-valid point/fair offer/barbed poke at LWJ or WWX or demonic cultivation, LWJ-*cricket noises*, JML-*smirk*, LQR-agree/counter-offer. And repeat. WWX still has not collected his jaw off of the floor from where it had fallen before. He is not invited to join talks and the YMJ delegation surround their sect heir like a living, breathing force-field. LJY has taken this time to fall in love with JML again, something he keeps bringing up completely unprompted to LSZ, but quietly because he has some shame. But everyone in the YMJ delegation know, and they're smug, but also kind of feral, so LSZ takes LJY and WWX away before trouble can break out. JML and YMJ leave after a couple of days, WWX only sees her during meals, and he looks at her unblinkingly the entire time and only LWJ's presence there stops anyone from YMJ from pulling a sword about the whole deal.

-After their departure, WWX and LWJ discuss their suspicions and findings, WWX confusedly admits to having a sexual partner during that time, and after some very awkward and tense discussions, reveals that it was JC. But two men can't have a baby, no matter how many times they do it! LWJ is oddly accepting of the idea that JC and WWX have had sex-he doesn't like it, but he can see how and why it happened. The twin prides of yunmeng, whatever they are now, were something completely back then. LWJ had envied their closeness more than once, for all the reasons that turned out to be true.

-They decide to research non-conventional methods of conceiving children. They comb through the library before going to the forbidden section. They find one reference to a rare, and most likely extinct, plant that could be used to make a child from two cultivators based only on blood samples. But it isn't likely because even if not extinct, grows in a region so far away that JC's absence would have been noted. JC had been at LP for the time that JML must have been conceived and all the months prior, as the plant also had a 9 month gestation period. Also, why the hell would JC go to all the trouble of finding said plant to have a JC-WWX baby in the midst of all that other stuff that was happening? LWJ finds some books that mention miraculous feats, in which that plant is included, but feels like something is missing from the book/volume itself. There is evidence the bindings have been loosened and put back together. It might be something, it might be nothing-maybe the bindings had to have been replaced. LWJ is uncertain, WWX is anxious-there's only one real way to get an answer.

-The plan is to get into LP by asking to make amends for the insult of entering the Ancestral Shrine, to settle matters between two allies. LQR, unexpectedly delighted at something that involves WWX, agrees that it is good to mend fences with YMJ and inwardly very happy that LWJ for the first time ever is willing to apologize to someone he insulted during some WWX-fueled event. The request is sent off to the YMJ and the permission to enter LP is given.

-WWX and LWJ arrive late in the day at LP, hours after they were expected. JML is visibly annoyed, but there is some legitimate (but planned) reason and that means she will either have to offer lodging to her guests or force them into an inn in town, which wouldn't look too good politically. They come in, watched very closely, and the whole thing is done without a hitch. There is a very awkward meal in the dining hall and LWJ/WWX are given rooms for the night, with the not-so subtle hint they should be prepared to depart in the morning.

-LP is guarded at all times, but WWX uses a few tricks from his past knowledge of LP and in the dead of night, both are out and sneaking into where JC is completing his seclusion (hand-waves at the method of HOW this happens, just that it must so I will not be spending too much time thinking logistics of it now). They find JC meditating in a set of rooms far away from the hubbub of the sect, where Madam Yu's old rooms had been. He does not look good, pale and skinnier than he had been before. Dark circles under the eyes and dressed in drab clothing/colours. WWX is horrified.

-JC comes out of meditation and is surprised to see them there. Reveals that JML had shown the request for their visit to him during their weekly meal together and he figured there was some ulterior motive. Because LWJ doesn't give a fuck if he insults YMJ, unprompted or not, and WWX would never come back unless he wanted/needed something. He thought they had come for Suibian, and told JML and her deputies to leave it relatively unguarded so they could find it easier. He's not sure why they were here, thinks they thought he would have it, and he gives them directions to where to find it before trying to return to his meditation.

-WWX continues to be horrified at this listless, empty version of his shidi, looking tired and wane in a way that he hasn't seen since after he lost his golden core. LWJ is perturbed, but summons his quiet righteous indignation to demand answers about JML. This gets a rise out of JC, for who the fuck is LWJ to come and question him about anything regarding his daughter? Back and forth sniping before LWJ accuses JML of being WWX's daughter and JC for covering it up. JC demands to know who would the mother be if what LWJ says is true. LWJ counters that given her looks, he's certain JC did something unnatural to create this child between himself and WWX. JC riles, screams that the only person who was guilty of doing unnatural things was WWX and everything, as usual, was his fault!

-But it's like he deflates after all, nearly slumps over like he's having an attack of some sort. WWX tries to grab him but JC rallies to slap him away. They back up into their respective corners and JC starts laughing in a way that is creepy and unhinged. "You know, for the longest time, I thought that despite it all, you must have loved me. You must have felt connected to me the most, felt about me like I felt about you-but you were just too stupid and stubborn about your own heroicness to do anything useful with it. Maybe you were actually speaking the truth that you wanted to come home, and be here with me, but your morals wouldn't let you. Even after everything, even when I hated you, I believed that. And it didn't make everything okay, just helped make it not the absolute worst. I was so sure of it, through all this shit, because-because of our daughter."

-JC/WWX fucked repeatedly after the fall of LP, during SSC and after. Even once in the BM, when they had that final falling out before WWX defected. JC went back to LP and stewed in his own anger until he brought JYL to YL for WWX to see her in her wedding robes. He hadn't been feeling the best in those days, but managed to get through the wedding. Comes back, sick as ever, Jiang healers tell him that it looks like he's pregnant, but obviously, as a man, that makes no sense. One healer remembers something or the other from his training at CR (let's pretend they did all kinds of exchange programs for various fields of study) and JC reluctantly asks LQR to LP. Before asking him for a favour, extracts a promise to never share the nature of this discussion with anyone, in memory of his friendship with JFM and his honour as a Lan. LQR eventually agrees, as JC promises that it doesn't involve harm to others or GL. He listens, goes back to CR to study, and comes back with some information:

-past cases of spiritual conception, very rare circumstance, as it involves perfect harmonization of the spiritual and physical aspects of two people. Such a connection is easy for the physical (people been having great sex forever!), but the complete spiritual matchup was rarer, happening only one recorded time that LQR could find. LQR and Jiang healers work together and confirm a whole bunch of stuff and then everyone wants to know who the other parent is, but JC refuses to name them.

-LP goes into semi-lockdown. The five Jiang seniors still alive huddle around SLJ and hide this from the world. He's already about four months along and barely showing. *Hand-wave medical stuff about pregnancy and male bodies-SPIRITUAL BABY rules (in which they aren't rules and I get to make them up as I go along)*. JYL knew, and JML born six weeks before JL, but hidden at LP.

-WWX has forgotten all his words. Even LWJ is stumped, because even though he suspected, confirmation was still shocking. WWX starts crying, wants to know why JC never told him-that he should have been told. JC laughing, cruelly, and asks how he was supposed to tell him. After the JYL wedding dress meeting, WWX doubled down on separating from YMJ. JC, too paranoid after finding out the truth of his condition, wouldn't leave LP for anything before the birth. He sent Yu Xiuying to Yiling numerous times with a request for WWX to come to LP, even if they were sneaking him in at night. Doesn't WWX remember?

-WWX does, he remembers the few times Yu Xiuying appeared in YL in disguise, asking him to come and meet JC at LP. Then, he thought if he went back to LP, that he wouldn't want to leave again. The temptation was too much. He send her away each time. Once, she brought a letter, but he sent her away without reading it. JC laughs, says he couldn't write the truth in a letter-that it was thought too dangerous to put those words to paper. That every easy denial was like a stab in the heart, but then JC would remember what LQR said-perfect spiritual and physical harmonization. JC and WWX were connected, closer than anyone else could claim, and this refusal was also about protecting JC and YMJ. When JL is born, JC learns that WWX is invited to attend the 100 day celebration-the perfect opportunity to get close enough to WWX to try and let him know. JYL agreed, said she would make sure that they got to talk and that WWX would get to see his daughter-so much tentative hope and then everything went to shit.

-"But even after, when I hated you and blamed you, I still loved you-because I could tell myself that you obviously still loved me. That there was a good reason for why you refused to be seen with any of YMJ messengers while in YL, but I heard reports of you spending days around town with LWJ. Ignored the fact that if I had written the letter asking you to come to JL's 100 day celebration instead of LWJ with his guarantee that you wouldn't have come. Buried the fact that you so badly went out of your way to break all connections to me, but jumped up in a second when it was LWJ or JYL reaching out. I thought, yes that hurt, but he still loved me-I was still the most nearest to him because what was our daughter other than the confirmation of that. Then you come back, you refuse to come back to LP, you take up with LWJ, you bring back Wen Ning-all that shit, and I still had that to fall back on, a crutch to lean on-that I wasn't as insignificant to you as you made it look. And then, what? The core-your core in me, your spiritual core in me, mixing with my spiritual energy, creating something inbetween your spiritual power and mine-working not due to harmony, but unnatural necessity. Because you had us both carved open and experimented on, to repay a debt to the Jiang sect. Repay a debt-giving back what was owed. A miracle child not born of perfect harmony, but an accident born of desperate need to be done with me and YMJ. I always wondered how easily you made it look to step away from the sect, from me; couldn't figure out how you could pretend it was so easy. And now I know you weren't pretending. It was easy-it was probably a relief, to be free of me. Was the sex some sort of interest you were paying on the debt? I used to wonder that-but then I remembered you used to enjoy it too much. Maybe you figured the core was an overpayment and took my virginity and my heart as a way of balancing the debts out. After all, just like with A-die and A-niang, my love was a pittance of worth in your eyes."

-Something angsty, angsty in response. More arguments, JC starts to qi deviate and JML and the Jiang sect Elders burst in and things go straight to hell.
