there needs to be a chart somewhere for people like me who have a lot of special interests, which lists the starting costs for every type of hobby, and then tells you exactly why it would be a bad idea for you to start that hobby.
I just think it would help me if every time I got the sudden, sharp desire to start something new, I could go to a website that says something like, "really? you think you can afford a kiln? you think you can make room for a kiln? think again! go use up all that yarn you bought two years ago, or the seed beads, or the darkroom chemicals, and then we can talk."

Well. I just finished hopefully the last real homework I will ever have to do. I will do one last read through on Wednesday and turn it in and then I’m done. All that’s left after that is a presentation and a handful of lectures and then I’m free…to study a bunch for the certifying exam. Amazing.

it's really a shame I have to sell 40+ of my life hours every week for poverty wages instead of spending all my time and energy on dozens of creative and technical pursuits with unlimited resources

blocking lace is. so difficult [ETA: this is about knitting. thanks cham for reminding me that blocking is an ambiguous word lmao. anyway here's the. passive-aggressive parenthetical from the original post.]
(if we are strangers please don't reply to this post by explaining blocking methods or technique to me, or with encouragement. i am aware of many tips. i read the blogs. but sometimes you are doing a thing for the first time and you do it with knowing compromises and a clear-eyed understanding of one's own limited resources and experience. and i want to complain about it here, in my own blog, despite that, without people who don't know things about me showing up with assumptions that they are simply intrinsically more knowledgeable than me bc if i was as good as them i wouldn't express any frustration ever.
if we're buddies it's cool because i invited you here to hear me complain. the vibes are different)

I wish I could find knitting tutorials that teach me the mystical language knitting pattern manuals speak in... I can do one (1) basic scarf pattern (if I remember how to first take up the yarn or idk) and there's tutorials for that kind of thing, but as soon as I look for sth even a little bit more complicated it's all "oh here's a simple pattern for that" followed by 42 unexplained abbreviations and 19 magic words that I'm supposed to just understand? And that's in German. English knitting terms confuse me even more. I wish we'd done knitting at school for art class instead of glueing empty yoghurt cups into patterns and glueing literal rubbish to a lamp. Why was there so much glue involved why wasn't there anything useful

Finally blocked the guy i finished the other day plus reblocked two of my other doilies that have gotten scrunchy. Turns out you need to use at least a 1:4 ratio of starch to water to get cotton thread doilies to stay nice for longer than a week.

Pinky and Sunniva ⛵
Their relationship is so cute and I like the two of them going on their own travels and adventures together. I bet they make their own two-person adventure group when they grow up, maybe bringing Marco along too, sailing around and treasure hunting ✨

now that the weather is turning cold my little creature brain is running around shrieking about sweaters. knitting and crocheting sweaters. need them. must burrow into them. meanwhile, all my projects in progress --

Upon rewatch of the Mario Movie, I really gotta wonder how long the Mario Bros were in the Mushroom Kingdom for.
They get sucked through the pipe past sundown Brooklyn time, which depending on the season is like 8-9 o’clock, Mario arrives in the Mushroom Kingdom in the day time, maybe late afternoon, and spends the rest of the day through the night into the morning on Peach’s Mario Maker level, travels all the next day, sleeps in a Fire Flower field for the night, arrives at the Kong Kingdom mid the next day, leaves the Kong Kingdom on Karts around sunset, which turns to night as they are ambushed, leading to Mario and DK spending the entire night inside an eel only breaking out early the next morning, just to make it barely in time to Peach and Bowser’s wedding sometime around noon, and go back through the pipe to have it be early morning in Brooklyn with the rest of the Mario family carrying on with breakfast as usual.
So they spend 3 Days in the Mushroom Kingdom, but only like 12 hours of Brooklyn time seems to have passed.
