Man, I need to be a lot better about tagging my answers for Tumblr newbie advice... otherwise I would say just click on that tag and there you are, and I don't have to repeat myself...

If you're "fresh off the boat" in joining Tumblr and just starting out, welcome! Here are a few things to remember:

Make sure you get yourself a new profile pic when you can, so people don't assume you're a bot when you start following blogs. It can be anything you like, as long as it's not the default Tumblr sphere and cone faces, or a scantily clad humans (usually female) making poses and selfies. :P

Whether you're new or a Tumblr veteran, we are all treated the same. No one knows other people's follower counts, it's not publically broadcasted like Twitter and Instagram, or Youtube subscribers or Facebook friends. Which means there's no need to put people on pedestals, or look down on others.

Don't be afraid of liking and reblogging posts. When you reblog things, you can say nothing, or you can write something relevant or clever in your post addition, hide your thoughts in the tags, or whisper to OP in the comment section.

This is an app / site where you can be yourself. Enjoy the things you like, express yourself how you want to. You might feel like you're screaming into the void for a while at first, but it's not that hard to find people who like the same things you like.

Try to keep your head on straight and your wits about you. They call it Tumblr because it's easy to tumble down the rabbit hole and wind up in strange, whimsical places where everyone is crazy and mad and don't make a lick of sense. If you're a little weird and wacky, you'll fit in nicely. If you're lost and questioning what people are talking about with their plinko horses and vanilla extract memes, be patient. You'll find out soon enough.

Here’s why:

It’s a dumb reason, but it’s still a reason. So, don’t attack anyone or assume anything. This is just a rant.

Way back in 2015, my dad was writing a new song for this challenge he set for himself. I don’t remember the specifics, but he was surfing the web and found the Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty Meme. However, at the time, it wasn’t called Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty. It was mostly called Butterfly Rainbow Unicorn Cat.

I think most people know the image I’m referring to. I can’t find the original post.

The name was mostly undecided, so Dad went with Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty because it rolled off the tongue.

He made a song that revolved around the meme and commissioned me to make an album cover. You all probably know where this is going.

I was, I think twelve when I made the cover. I was new to drawing digitally and was trying some things out.

The song discusses international issues, internet stuff, and life’s hardship but shifts focus to the Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty. Because, “Nothing could be wrong cus it looks so pretty!”✨🦋🎶

But yeah, I drew that cover. The name Bellapink5 was an old internet name I used before changing it to Bellapinkpen.

Anyways, cut to high school a few years later in 2019 and my dad tells me that some of his students at school (he’s a music teacher) told him that someone at Nick copied this song’s album cover.

Of course he goes, “What the H?” And looks it up. Low and behold he finds RBUK and tells me about it at dinner that night. We both thought, “What the H?” Because Felicity looks almost identical to the original meme and my drawing, the theme song is super close to Dad’s song too. It’s not by much, but it’s hard to deny someone at Nick didn’t see or hear any of these things and mishmashd them together. Because that original photoshopped cat, album art, and Dad’s song were the only threads that stuck out the most when searching Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty.

It’s actually very obvious when looking at these pictures close together. When you search Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty, this is what you get:

I told a few friends and my grandparents about this, because I was a bit upset that a big company decided to use something that the internet made, something that I was involved in, but didn’t do anything with it!

I completely forgot about it after ranting for a bit. The show got cancelled and things moved on. But the memory came back and I decided to look some episodes up, to see if they really copied the album.

I watched Alpha Jay’s video essay on the matter, saying it kinda copied Unikitty. I do think Unikitty had a part to play. Because it’s existence definitely was a push for the show to be made in the first place. But I don’t think the art came from that show.

Then I stumbled onto Vailsklbum’s video and he literally shows Dad’s album in his video as a possible source of inspiration for this show along with the meme. My mouth literally dropped.

I know this show is like, four years old. But I need to rant again.

I’ll break down what both Jay’s video and Vail’s video pointed out that everyone in my family and friends noticed when looking at Felicity’s design…

That reblog I posted earlier that was a Always Sunny meme “well I never thought I’d live past 29 so jot that down” while I lol about it. It’s true, I never thought I’d make it past 18 and yet here we are 18 years later and I never really had a plan or idea for my life. I fell into dental hygiene and sometimes people will talk about their plans for the future and I listen and nod. Yet here I am at 36 and I STILL don’t plan the future. Not because I want to actively not be alive but I spent so long assuming I wouldn’t be, that now that I am I just don’t know what to do or how to go about it.

I just often feel like I’m not an active participant in my life. As if I just watch it and the days go by. Yet I can’t figure out how to change it or be active in it. Something just holds me back enough to not be able to grab onto my life and fully live it.

- I got put on a blocklist with a couple others, and someone who shouldn't have been on it (this someone was replaced three times with more people who shouldn't have been on it when they received pushback)

- I reblogged the blocklist with a meme because blocklists are dumb, and we ended up going back and forth about whether blocklists were any good and how they were maliciously putting people on it (the last person put on the list was DEFINITELY put there maliciously because of a post they THOUGHT was vagueing them). The blocklist and all arguments are now deleted from OPs blog, but still on mine if anyone wants to go back and check

- weskcourse jumped into this entire argument randomly with this cryptic shit about how I ruined their life three years ago by breaking their DNI (I wasn't on tumblr then, but I was also apparently LISTED in this DNI??), and then I, APPARENTLY, refused multiple requests to take down this post, and blocked all their accounts so they couldn't "bother" me anymore

- I (shockingly) gently (clearly I have trouble with that) explained that I had no idea who they were, or what I might have done, and I have only ever had two people blocked, and I very frequently engage with people who ask me to change or remove posts to figure it out, but if they could show me the post, I would own up to it and apologize

- They changed the timeline to under two years ago, and provided a post I had made about a screenshotted DNI. It's here if you want to scroll, but it was a completely normal DNI with no identifiable features, and it really wasn't anything even interesting? The last point was, "DNI if you think alters can't have disabilities the body doesn't," and I posted it with, "What kind of disabilities?"

(their current DNI was the exact opposite of all other points, for example, the original was DNI pro ship, and weskcourse's current DNI listed them as being pro ship and pro non contact, etc)

EDIT: I did own up to the post and apologize, in case anyone is wondering

- after the post, I received an anon saying, "no, I remember this, you said mean stuff to me about using the word 'cripple'", which immediately jogged my memory, and I pointed out that THAT was from a completely different blog, in regards to the post-- they were mixing me up oops-all-syscourse (not to be confused with the new blog, oopsallsyscourse), and I provided screenshots of the back and forth THEY had been doing about alters with disabilities

- weskcourse then explained (despite the above) that my post had lead their stalker to them, despite it being actually pretty tame and having no identifiable information

- said stalker then randomly showed up in all this professing their love and devotion to me and threatening to leak weskcourse's info

- stalker posted his IP, which was fake-- it's a private IP anyone can use to login and adjust the settings to their router, so that was dumb

- stalker then posted an address that doesn't exist in Canada's postal code database, which weskcourse immediately reblogged with, essentially, "yeah, that's my address" and then started telling everyone and their mother to kill themselves

- stalker started sending me ask after weird yandere ask and I'm rolling my eyes

- when it was pointed out that the IP was fake, the stalker blog immediately disappeared, and it's up for debate whether it was reported and removed, or the person deleted

- another blog VAGUELY and strangely involved in this (not sure if they want to be mentioned, but it raises eyebrows based on the above) received an anon with the stalker's Discord About Me, but never posted it.

- now this random 3 day old blog, ALSO has that about me, and these random chats with everyone in weskcourse's life, and claims to share a server with stalker

- Stalker then tried to join MY server but was instabanned before anyone even told me it had happened

- I made a vague post about cops and weskcourse deleted

Sleeping Meme (Repost do not reblog)

Type of bed: At his home, he has a king-sized bed because he likes to move around a lot when sleeping alone, to Minato, there's no better feeling than being able to roll around onto the other side of the bed, despite this, he doesn't really move around too much in bed unless he's feeling extra comfy.

Number of blankets: It depends on the season. In spring he uses two thin blankets, the top one being a little bit thicker. For summer, he uses the central AC he installed upon buying the house. Since it is nice and cool in the house, he usually opts for one thick comforter since his central air is very strong. Fall, he likes to keep his bedroom balcony screen door open all night so he can take in the cool fall breeze (Which he is very comfortable doing since his bedroom is on the fifth floor in his seven-story home, so he doesn't need to worry about stalker fan girls sneaking in, also the fence surrounding his home) so in turn, he uses a very thick comforter with a thinner bottom layer blanket. In Winter he turns his heat up and usually goes for a thin blanket. One that's thin enough to keep him cool, but also still keeps him warm.

Number of pillows: Minato has six pillows, four of them stay along the headboard, while the last one foes under the main pillow under his head to elevate him a bit. Because of his height now, he needs to have his head elevated a little just to sleep comfortably.

Type of clothing: Minato isn't too picky with what he wears to bed, but his choice of sleepwear usually consists of: A dark blue tank top and black loose-fitting pajama pants, a midnight blue t-shirt, and black shorts. Some days, if he's feeling too lazy, he'll just throw on a pair of pajama pants and sleep shirtless.

Does it matter where they sleep?: Kind of but not really. For the most part, if he's tired or comfortable enough, he can fall asleep pretty easily. Although the hotels he stays at do play a big part in that as well. While Minato isn't really concerned about staying at flashy and fancy four-star hotels, he at least wants the hotel to be good quality, with top-tier housekeeping and hospitality.

What do they do when they can't fall asleep?: If there is ever a night that Minato for some reason, cannot sleep, he'll kill some time by either:

Play a video game on his Switch or 3DS XL (He's always torn between a horror game or an RPG)

Post a random tweet on t.witter asking which of his fans across the world are up, or just make a random shower thoughts type of post out of amusement and observe how his fans react.

Look over his collection of haunted and supposedly cursed artifacts and items and take count.

Dig through his horror movie collection and struggle to choose between a slasher flick or a paranormal-themed flick for an hour or two

Have some herbal tea to try and invoke sleep, but ends up munching on cookies, thus failing his attempt to become tired by having sugar

Read a horror book in the dark, under a single reading lamp

Hunt for ghosts in his own home until boredom or sleep hits

If all else fails, he'll lie down in the dark playing soft and sleep-inducing music until he eventually crashes out.

Frequent dreams, and/or nightmares: Minato's dreams stem from very weird and bizarrely random(A good example of this: Minato once dreamt of entering a land of gummy bears and proceeded to eat them, they even encouraged him) All the way to serious or fun. Though he's no stranger to bad nights of his own. Sometimes, he does have nightmares about his parent's deaths, but only during the month it happened ( I can't remember if there was a canon month given, but I'll assume September for now) There have also been a few instances where Minato has had reoccurring nightmares of something for a week due to coming in contact with some very malicious entities that curse his dreams for a limited time.

Deep slumber or naps?: Minato can do both, though it all depends on what he's doing at the moment. If he's still tired, his best chances of a nap would be on the train if it's a ride longer than five hours, on his private plane, or if he's being carpooled/escorted. If Minato is driving though, he always makes sure he's well energized since he doesn't want to risk falling asleep at the wheel. In terms of deep sleep, Minato tends to do that on Sundays since those are well renowned for being a lazy day.

When do they sleep?: When he goes to sleep, depends entirely on his work schedule. Almost every day, Minato works until very late at night and into the early morning, the times he sleeps vary between 4 to 6 am on a work day. But if it's a day off, it's usually either 1 or 2 am.

What could wake them up?: Lots of things, the most common being: His alarm clock, or the one on his phone, the bits of sunlight that poke into his room (Which is why he has blackout curtains in his bedroom), and Takashi who has literally dragged him out of bed a few times on a Sunday whenever he's had the odd career related thing to do, be it a guest appearance on a show, podcast or an interview.

Above all though, Minato would like to be woken up by his significant other over everything else, he's used to the normal ways of waking up, so being woken up gently by his lover is what he would prefer, especially compared to Takashi ripping the blanket off of him.

I fully believe that, in all my years of fic writing for fandom, this one lil 800 word Jeankasa one-shot called "Wishing For More" is my Magnum Opus.

This was in the era where the Marley arc was happening in the manga but SNK was on people's mind because S2 and S3 came out. While pics of Reiner looking depressed/hot and Zeke memes dominated most of the fandom, I was in that little subset of people wondering what tf the Island Devils were up to.

And remember, this was months before the reveal of the post-timeskip Scouts so I had no idea what anyone looked like or how the characters changed after 4 years.

I fell into the category of people who believed that Jean and Mikasa became some flavour of lovers at one point or another so that's where Wishing For More came from.

The entire plot is just Jean and Mikasa spending time together in a room at an inn and Mikasa observing the scars he sustained from the Retaking of Shiganshina. I liked the concept of writing characters with various scars back then and I like it now.

At the time I had this whole lil scenario where the Scouts were stationed at an inn for weeks and were just told to be on standby, so unless they were needed they were largely left to their own devices. It lead to me writing a lot about Jean and Mikasa either seeing each other a lot in the hallways of the inn or spending time together in their respective rooms.

All I could assume about Mikasa at that time was that she was wrangling with the mess of emotions that come with realizing your childhood BFFs will succumb to the Curse of Ymir in 8/13 years, as a result she's more on the quiet introspective side bc her thoughts are constantly plagued with what the meaning of life is if it can end so cruelly.

And this was definitely what started me on my "Mikasa deserves to be happy" agenda because post basement reveal I could already anticipate that her life would just get more distressing from that point on.

Is it a surprise that I was compelled to write her finding comfort in the arms of the hot funky horse man? Or write a scenario where she sees the collection of scars on his shoulders and back before gently running her fingers across them? Or have her slowly realize that unlike the resident Titan Shifters, Jean is a normal human who can't heal from traumatic injuries?

What got you into writing? (Even though your bio says you don't write, I am still asking because I often find reblogs from you related to things about writing, so you at least have plans to write, I assume?)

I think I started writing like...2-3 month ago maybe? I kinda acquired a new ship (shout out to my angelfish truthers) and just fell down the rabbit hole. I had severe brain rot and was daydreaming constantly. So I just started to write down my head canons. But writing still seems very intimidating.

But I somehow ended up with mutuals who write fanfiction (love y'all) and so I kept seeing posts on writing. And most writing memes resonated with me even before I started writing fics. Just because I write software for a living and the struggles/memes are very similar (blinking cursor...you are the enemy)

And at some point I thought...well just blow the head canon up to an entire story. I'm writing fanfiction now! Especially because the ship still seems very small and I CRAVE more content. So I want to contribute.

But so far I haven't finished anything yet. But I have like 5 chapters/fic I'm writing on, because ideas just keep popping up :D

4. Why did you give them the name they have? What is the in-universe reason for their name?

Willow got her name from a Taylor Swift-song, simply because her concept was sex worker in Amsterdam's red light district, and I thought it'd be so funny if her name was Willow because "Life was a willow and it bent right to your wind", and she's bendy in any direction her clientele wanted her. Her middle name was recently added, because I watched Barbie (2023) too often, and her last name is Turing, because sometimes you have to hide queer history in character names. In universe, her mom liked Willow as a name, and her middle name came from her grandmother. Clíodhna was named for the queen of the Banshees in Irish mythology. Her backstory and lore are heavily based in Shakespeare, Celtic mythology, and a little in Changeling the Dreaming, so when @kentuckycaverats suggested the name, I stuck with it. Clíodhna is plagued by the ghosts of her past, after all. Sure, they're not wraiths or bean sidhe, but they basically are just that to her. Additionally, her last name is Ó Neill, which is rooted in Celtic migration and history. What is a Scot if not just an Irish Dál Riata settler? And the Ui Neill clan was one of their allies, as well as one of the most prominent families back in those days. In universe, she was born as Kenna MacNeil to Irish immigrants. She was born in Scotland, but after her aging was stopped due to her Sire ghouling her, Kenna MacNeil has been declared dead. When her Sire moved her to Ireland to basically function as a spy, Irishifying her name to blend in better made sense... Besides, Kenna MacNeil had been dead for a long time. The court in Derry are Irish nationalists, her English or Scottish name would do worse in Ireland than Clíodhna would.

10. What is your favorite trait regarding your oc?

Willow is so fierce in how much she loves. She has a couple of people she'd quite literally do anything for, even if it puts herself in harm's way. My favourite Clíodhna-trait is something that happens when I play her. She has been raised in Scotland, but over the last century she's been forced into an RP English accent. As her emotional state changes, so does her accent. If she gets agitated, stressed, or scared, her accent will shift from RP English to her native accent. It's a lot of fun to flex my accent library on my friends /lh

11. What is your least favorite trait regarding your oc?

Willow's too nervous for her own good. Some shit has happened, and where she once was a stereotypical confident Toreador with the entire world at her disposal, she's now just chronically afraid of everything and losing touch with reality and she has no idea who she is anymore. It's a little bit stressful. She'll grow out of it <3 Clíodhna I haven't had the chance to play much, yet, but I have a sinking feeling I'm going to hate what she's like with her Sire. But hey, that's what being blood bound to a Ventrue will do to you, I suppose.

19. How might your oc react to finding out you are the one responsible for their life?

Willow would probably find it very weird to know that I'm literally chronically talking about her on the internet to the little gay people in my phone. But also, maybe she'd get some strength out of this? Who knows. She'd probably want nothing to do with me and hope that I never visit Amsterdam ever. Clíodhna? She sees ghosts all the time. If I tell her I'm responsible for her life, she'd probably consider me another one of the voices she hears sometimes that say things she doesn't quite understand. She might be a bit confused because I'm not her father, ex partner, or one of the two people she killed upon embrace, but it would be nothing out of her ordinary.

Look, I'm seeing people discuss feeling ignored for female OCs and I just want to discuss this undercut.

I have played a range of muses across various rpcs. I've written from female oc to male canon, in marvel, in star wars, in dragon age, and a few others. Am I going to deny female ocs often get the short end of the stick? No, I'm not. But am I going to discuss the issues which may cause this? Yeah. But I'm also tired of people saying it's a problem in this RPC because this RPC is, statistically, the most interaction I've gotten for my female OCs.

You want to know why canon male rpers don't interact with you? There may be a variety of reasons, but let me tell you what I deal with on my three sideblogs with the origin male romance options

I post on my pinned post that those blogs are private for my mutuals on this blog. I still get followers who follow those blogs but not this one. There's an innate concern of people not reading through all your stuff, just because you write a canon muse.

In the past, I've had people come up and assume entire dynamics (St.eve Ro.gers was a loop with someone who's OC was his wife???) without talking to me first. I've known rpg rpc male canon rpers who have told me they've dealt with this. Just because you know the magic combination to get your favorite to kiss your PC in game doesn't mean you'll have chemistry with every blog that plays them.

It is tiring to have people constantly coming to you for romance-without-plot. It can even at times feel like they're not interested in you or your writing, just in getting jollies with a face they like.

Onto the matter of female OCs being ignored and how my own women are doing decently, or why I suspect. This isn't to shame anyone, just some thoughts I have on maybe why and maybe for people to emulate.

I don't chase for ships or even just shippy writing. I'm invested in development and writing that build up, taking in every piece to figure out how the intimacy would work. and if the intimacy is a platonic one, I enjoy that too.

I'm not against memeing myself for headcanon memes or drabble memes. I'm interested in building in-depth discussions and plots for my OCs, even if I don't have someone I'm plotting with about it.

If I don't get interactions, I write little scenes with my own OCs or go find something else to do. I don't sit and wait with bated breath or reblog the same things multiple times in the same day.

I try to have variety in my memes, try to find things simple to send, or sentences with a variety of dynamics so people can pick and choose.

On the matter of memes, when I do send them, it's because I've carefully combed over the list to find something I feel would fit the dynamic I can picture possibly working between muses. I try to be deliberate.

Another thing to consider is the RPC is dominated by people who are attracted to men. A lot of the time in video games, people put a lot of themselves into the PC and so they have similar attractions. So the male canon rpers get bombarded with these OCs and they can't keep up with it a lot of the time, especially on solo blogs.

Look, my suggestion if you're a female OC and you're feeling frustrated by lack of interaction, do some solo writing. Develop a bit. Have fun with your OC just for yourself, and maybe someone will see you having fun and want to have fun too. It may take time but that's okay, good things come to those who wait. Maybe if you're feeling frustrated, get off the screen (seriously). Because your frustration will show in your writing. Go read a book, go take a walk, go do some chores, and then just write a bit for yourself.

Saw a twitter meme that's like '"straight actors shouldn't play gay characters" do you want [x] to be unemployed?' And I can't help but think Michael Sheen fits that. I don't have much else to add to this I just thought it'd be funny to send. I don't really follow either of them too closely to ever add much to the conversation so ya know.

Hi, Anon! Yeah, I’ve been seeing that meme going around lately (see my most recent reblog for a version involving David), and I’d have to say the same thing here that I did there. I don’t think the meme quite works with Michael because while the presumption is that he’s straight, the reality is rather different.

(I know you said you don’t follow either he or David too closely, so I invite you to check out my #david is lowkey bi and michael is highkey bi tag to read the many posts that I have written on the subject.)

What I will say here, however, is that where with David, he has not actually played a great number of explicitly queer roles and it’s more his own queer energy that we are seeing on screen, with Michael, he has played numerous overtly queer roles AND his own queer energy informs those roles (and vice-versa).

I’ve written previously on my blog about how the queer roles Michael has played all seem to represent different parts of himself, perhaps even at different places in his own journey with sexuality. In particular, Aziraphale has seemed to me to be the middle-aged version of Miles Maitland--the realization of who Miles wanted to be when he was young, and who (perhaps like Michael) he felt he couldn’t be because of society and the hateful intolerance around him. It’s taken Aziraphale a lifetime (or a millennia) to find himself, but Aziraphale knows who he is, even if he doesn’t specifically label it or announce it to the world. So I can’t help but feel like there are certainly some parallels there with Michael’s own life.

Which is then why I am not sure how to feel about memes like the “straight actors” one on Twitter. People assume Michael and David are straight because they’re currently in relationships with women, which ignores everything Michael has ever said about his attractions to men, and perpetuates the longstanding tradition of erasing bisexuality. But it also ignores/dismisses the idea that some actors use the roles they play to explore their sexuality and become more comfortable with it because they have had so few opportunities to do so in real life.

Imagine putting that piece of yourself into every role (which is something Michael has said, that he plays himself in every role) and having people still not see who you really are because of their preconceived ideas about sexuality. Michael is a lot more obvious about it than David (who I do think has felt like he has to hide in particular because of being in Doctor Who, which is a whole other conversation), but as obvious as Michael is, people are still calling him straight, and I think that’s really interesting, as well as a bit sad.

So yes, those are my thoughts on the Twitter meme. Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, of course, but wanted to do my best to put my complicated feelings about it into words. Thanks for writing in, Anon! x
