WeLL here we are...i want to write s/t quick to remember the year by. cus 2023 was probly one of my most significant years of life, even tho from the surface it may appear not much changed for me, 2023 laid the foundation,,,

firstly, january 2023 i began learning to make music, which is crazy like!!!! it has absolutely given me a new reason to be lieve in myself like i nvr had b4. its like unlocking a new area of my heart, and inutuion.. its so FUN, so so fun ohhh the fun i have, provides me w a brighter outlook for the future as i will always have this melodic part of me activated,going forward. ive learned so much in just a year. idk i just love it it makes me feel wise and complete i feel like an alchemist. i cld rly say a lot on the sense of security music has made me feel in my heart :'0 but i have some other things to get to;

summer 2023 i started doing yoga which has also changed things for me dramatically i think ive released a lot of built up stagnant energy from my body & aura. since i started i feel immensely more balanced n able to work thru my emotions as they come up. ngl when ppl used to recommend me to try yoga i thout it was hippie shit but its real lol.. im finding sm contentment in day to day life than i ever thought possible, easier time being present, yet another thing i will continue for the rest of my future that 2023 has given me.

these r good things but it must b said that this year has been Soooo rough for me in certain ways, mostly due to interpersonal relationships.. some ppl had to b let go from my life this year in ways i rly wasnt expecting & for a lot of the year things were just, foggy. however as things draw to a close im feeling immensely grateful like.. every1 im close to rn are all peaceful souls & we uplift each other, i see now why the ones causing drama naturally had to fall away. even if it was painful process im feeling so supported rn, & reciprocated TwwwT <3333

idk it just felt like as i was progressing w musical understanding, yoga stuff , as well as the past few months trying to use tea and herbs to get my organs in order, i feel that.. my energetic field is rly repairing itself & so a lot of old attachments just cant keep up anymore.

i have to say, well, erm, i am really in love w slimbo and its different than anything ive ever felt in my life. we've been in love for a long long time & i dont talk about it often as i am protective of this love. but god, its just, the purest bond ive ever known and our love for each other is deeper all the time. we r both life path 27/9 & the first time we met it literally felt like.. reuniting, it felt like a celebration..i had never noticed such warmth from someone. i cld never be in such a secure place rn if it wasnt for slimbo & every day im so grateful like dude i owe you my LIFE. idk how to explain it, we are just One. slimbo is my angel i cant wait to spend 2024 & forever with <3

Did anything good happen in 2023? Yes!!

Sometimes, we all need a reminder that the world is not in a death spiral. This is a wonderful article from the Washington Post that shows huge and promising developments and it's worth reading.

Research has indicated that uplifting news can provide an emotional buffer against distressing news and feelings of hopelessness — and even encourage optimism or action. So, in that spirit, here are some of the more uplifting developments you may have missed this year.

The WHO approved an effective new malaria vaccine.

In October, the World Health Organization approved a malaria vaccine — only the second time a vaccine against the potentially deadly disease has been created. The WHO said it expects the vaccine, which costs $2-$4 per dose and has been shown to reduce symptomatic cases by 75 percent after three doses within a year, to be available by the middle of 2024.

More than 600,000 people died of malaria in 2021, with children under 5 representing 80 percent of malaria deaths in Africa. The United States reports about 2,000 malaria cases every year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says, with the majority of them contracted abroad.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the WHO, said the announcement gave him“great pleasure. ... I used to dream of the day when we would have a safe and effective vaccine against malaria. Now, we have two.”

The FDA approved a groundbreaking pill to treat postpartum depression

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration also approved a number of potentially life-changing drugs, including a first-of-its-kind pill to treat postpartum depression, which affects up to 1 in 5 women. The severe and debilitating condition can cause pregnant and new mothers to experience intense hopelessness and, in rare cases, psychosis — and it can last for years.

The new drug is taken once a day for two weeks and, unlike the existing treatment of an IV injection that may take as long as 60 hours to administer in a health-care setting, it can be taken at home — greatly improving accessibility, especially for parents caring for a newborn.

While experts say the drug may not be suitable for all women with the condition and won’t be able to treat all aspects of a new mother’s mental health, they argue that the drug is nonetheless a convenient and fast-acting treatment, and is particularly useful in the early days after a birth, when parents and babies start bonding.

Two sickle cell disease treatments gained approval

In December, the FDA also approved two therapies for sickle cell disease, a rare and debilitating condition that affects around 100,000 Americans, most of them Black. The disease causes extreme, constant pain and can drastically cut the life span of those affected.

The new treatments are both gene therapies that have been shown in clinical trials to stop severe pain crises for most patients: One uses a harmless virus to insert a gene into the patient’s stem cells, while the other is the first medical treatment to be based on the gene-editing tool CRISPR.

Both are intensive, expensive procedures — and require chemotherapy, which has significant side effects. But patients who have received the treatments have spoken of its profoundly beneficial impact on their lives.Jimi Olaghere, a father of three who likened the pain caused by the disease to glass shards sawing back and forth inside his veins, said that after years of being unable to sleep at night because of pain, he has energy again, and that the treatment has enabled him for the first time to plan for a future with his family.

We learned more about dementia and memory loss — and how to prevent them

Scientists also made progress in understanding one of the biggest health concerns for countries with aging populations — dementia, which can have a devastating impact, robbing people of the ability to engage in daily tasks.

While there is no proven cure for dementia, scientific research has continued to find that there many steps we can take to reduce the risk of developing dementia.

One study published this year suggested that lifestyle habits, including regular mental and physical activity, eating a healthful diet, and regular social contact were linked with a slower rate of memory decline. Another found that living in areas with more natural green spaces was associated with lower rates of hospital admissions for diseases including dementia, while separate research indicated that the use of hearing aids could cut the risk of cognitive decline by nearly half.

The FDA also gave full approval, for the first time, to a drug that modestly slows Alzheimer’s disease. While difficult questions about safety, effectiveness and cost remain, many neurologists say that having a drug that slows Alzheimer’s is nonetheless a milestone after years of failed trials.

After 20 years, countries agreed a treaty to protect the ocean

Human health wasn’t the only area to see improvements this year. Even as scientists voiced concern about the state of Earth’s health, there were some positive steps to protect the planet.

In May, more than 190 countries agreed a major deal to protect the biodiversity of the world’s oceans outside of national borders, after more than two decades of talks. The United Nations adopted the treaty in June.

At present, only 1.2 percent of the high seas — which make up two-thirds of the planet’s ocean surface — are protected, leaving large stretches at risk from rising temperatures, overfishing, pollution, mining and other threats. The deal will allow nations to start creating new marine protection areas in the high seas for the first time, although it still may be years before U.N. member states formally adopt the agreement and are able to begin the process of designating the new zones. Even then, enforcement may be difficult.

But the agreement has been welcomed as a much-needed start on the path to protecting 30 percent of the planet’s land and sea by the year 2030, a goal announced at a U.N. biodiversity summit in late 2022.

Brazil deforestation falls after reaching 15-year high

Last year, The Post published a series of storiesshowing the fast pace of destruction of Brazil’s Amazon rainforest under then-President Jair Bolsonaro. During his presidency, the rate of deforestation of the Amazon rose to a 15-year high, and those responsible for the destruction acted with impunity.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva returned to the presidency in January this year. His first six months in office showed positive signs, as authorities drove thousands of illegal gold miners from Indigenous lands, and the government said deforestation dropped by 50 percent.

There are questions about how likely the president is to reach his goal of ending deforestation by 2030, especially given government plans for a large-scale railway project and to pave a 540-mile highway. And deforestation isn’t the only environmental issue facing Brazil, which has come under scrutiny for its reliance on oil as it announced plans to align itself with a coalition of major oil-producing nations, OPEC Plus.

But European countries and the United States have once again offered to restart funding — which was suspended under Bolsonaro — to help end deforestation in the Amazon. Resuming the program would be a significant step for a rainforest that stores billions of tons of carbon and pulls millions more out of the atmosphere every year.

Even in a year of difficult news, moments of humanity shone through

While suffering across the world may have dominated the headlines in 2023, this year also reminded us that kindness and generosity exist, even amid crises and tragedy.

In March, after tornadoes devastated Mississippi, a group of Ukrainian refugees made a 16-hour journey to distribute water to victims of the disaster. Many had only just arrived in the United States — and still had immigration forms to fill in or job interviews to prepare for — but hoped to help a community they felt faced a struggle similar to theirs.

“When they stop what they’re going through to help someone else in need, that to me is the definition of love,” Corie Jones, the deputy director of Volunteer Mississippi, told The Post.

And in October, as police officer Arizbeth Dionisio Ambrosio was clearing debris after Hurricane Otis swept Mexico, she came across a woman with a crying, hungry baby. Ambrosio, who was breastfeeding her own 1-year-old, offered to nurse the baby and was able to soothe the infant — a moment of empathy that was praised around the world, and led to her receiving a promotion.

Ambrosio told The Post she didn’t consider what she did to be anything heroic or out of the ordinary. “It was what I needed to do and I did it,” she said. “When you are in a situation like that, you do not think whether to help or not. ... I felt peace because I was with the baby giving him what he needed at the moment

man ive wanted to talk about this for a while and have a whole script in my head- unfortunately I don't know how to make videos so hey! text post! WHY TERRARIA'S DUNGEON ITEMS SUCK, AND MY TAKES ON IMPROVING THEM So I wanna start at the core of this issue- and that is the underworld.

Re-logic when designing Terraria 1.0 made the dungeon supposedly the final area (Skeletron was the last boss at the time), and as such, the underworld was left earlier in progression- hellstone is able to be mined with a Nightmare Pickaxe. (Deathbringer for all the crimson fans but that didn't exits in 1.0) Despite this, Shadow Chests require a Shadow Key to open, found in the dungeon. Post-Postgame content???

This leaves a few issues with Terraria being unable to decide progression- First off, Blue Moon and Magic Missile. They are ok weapons, except for the fact they are instantly outclassed by the Sunfury and Flamelash from Shadow Chests- weapons that function identically with better stats. It makes them viable for about 5 minutes- when you are exploring the dungeon and when you are looking for Shadow Chests.

But worse off is the Muramasa, Valor, and Handgun. These items usually see NO use. Why is that? They can all be upgraded BEFORE OR THE MOMENT THEY ARE OBTAINED. While Muramasa's upgrade, the Night's Edge, is pretty costly, it's such a significant upgrade with all other materials required being obtainable before, that Muramasa doesn't see use ever besides being carried to the nearest Demon Altar. Handgun is more sad, only requiring hellstone- the resource you can get much earlier with only a post-evil boss pick- into the Phoenix Blaster, literally just a Handgun with better stats. Valor is the saddest of the 3- Cascade is obtainable any time in hell, and hell enemies aren't too tough right before the dungeon, you may as well go for it, or the equally strong Hive Five over Valor. Valor is genuinely as used as the Pearlwood Bow by even yoyo only players.

Quick shoutouts to Aqua Scepter- its not only unique, it's designed well for the WoF fight and isn't directly upgradable or outclassed by a functionally identical statistically better weapon. So how would I go about fixing this? Well, when @aurora--spirit was discussing her weapon revamps mod with me (also cause I later had the idea for an alternate dungeon mod I work on and off on), we discussed a few ideas that she wrote down. One such idea is to make the counterpart weapons to their dungeon variations, giving them their own unique functions that make them an optional counterpart, allowing players to pick either or, depending on preference. Another idea is to shift progression of some weapons- make upgrades require slightly later materials as to allow their un-upgraded counterparts a chance to shine, or make some dungeon weapons weaker but earlier game outside the dungeon.

i think i did good as bossifying her design! sm-baby (who made the au btw) had boss design notes that rlly helped!! i focused a lot on adding more details to differentiate carnival flicker from canon flicker (i also tweaked the colors a lil teehee)!

About Their Game:

Pop Goes The Weasel plays in its entirety on the first round, with Flicker jumping out on the "Pop!" signaling the player to stop. In later rounds, the music cuts out at different points and the player must time the cue themself.

Their AI was adaptive, able to adjust each round's difficulty to the player's performance. Now they can control their game's difficulty manually, occasionally helping struggling players by moving platforms closer or humming when their music cue cuts out.

There's a hard mode of the level where the player has 1 HP, the platforms move around, and Flicker's music cue plays at varying speeds each time, on top of cutting out at random.

Ice makes platforms slippery, harder to land on & jump from. It's also harder to stop before a red light.

Electrified platforms can be landed on, but drain health the longer you stay on them.

Spikey platforms require careful timing to land on & jump off safely, taking a significant chunk of health if impaled.

Platforms with glue are harder to jump from, you won't have as much momentum.

Lose conditions: Falling into the void below the platforms, losing all HP, moving during a red light, failing to reach Flicker in time.

Fun Facts:

Due to a bug, players will always have spring-shoes equipped in Flicker's room, even in visiting mode.

Flicker's box has collision but no physics, & can no longer be interacted with after she broke off the crank. It's her ultimate safe space.

Prior to the broken crank, players could wind up Flicker's box in visiting mode & have them pop out on cue to start a conversation.

Non-sentient Flicker's AI would make references to their crush on Kinger. Sentient Flicker tends to stay quiet about it, almost never brings it up themself.

Gangle is the only other character who would reference Flicker's crush when non-sentient, even if Flicker wasn't present. She likes to tease them about it, casting Flicker & Kinger in romantic-leaning roles.

Flicker will put herself in increasingly more painful and embarrassing situations to entertain The King. She likes his laugh. Making him happy, even at her expense, is like a secondary purpose to her.

Believes Pomni's love is "real" because she developed it after becoming sentient, opposed to their own "fake" feelings that they were programmed with. Will need a lot of talks with Pomni before they consider their feelings for Kinger to be as real & valid as Pomni's feelings for Caine.

Has a lot of questions for the humans that made her, primarily about the reason for her existence and why she was given a crush on a married man (Made arguably worse by the fact said man is now a widower).

Flicker's room is one of the safest to be in since they aren't actively hostile toward humans. In fact, they'd go out of their way to protect a player actively participating in their game.

Since her game is all she feels she has, she may try to extend it indefinitely, adding more & more rounds with fluctuating difficulties. She doesn't want the moment to end. You'd have to promise to come back & play again before she finally lets you win.

Flicker's game, being adaptive & more forgiving, places them fairly early in the boss order, either before Ragatha or between her & Gangle. Being an early boss puts them in the mindset that no one will revisit them or their game since there's no progress to be made doing so.

Flicker's AI was made to shout words of encouragement & praise to the player depending on their performance & progress through the level each time she popped up. If her AI recognized the player was idling, she would remind them of the controls. If they weren't making it very far between green lights, she would encourage them to keep trying.

Sentient Flicker still does something similar, if only to get the player to keep playing & finish her game despite the danger. To quit partway through would be worse than to not play at all!

They can get snappy if you don't progress for a while though, shouting that it's not that hard, asking if you're even trying. They apologize quickly, not wanting to put you off from playing with their attitude, and will even offer to make the level easier if it'll keep you going.

I’m curious in what ways that Spiderverse movie underwhelmed you; by the standards of American animated films being currently released, it seemed pretty impressive.

i think i love animation in theory but every new american movie release that’s been heaped with praise from this website that ive actually watched this year (spidey, nimona, the new pussy boots, the mario movie…except everyone knows that one is not good so im not rly counting it) has been deeply underwhelming to me. and im not gonna say they aren’t fun, well-made, colorful distractions, but none of those films felt meaningful in any way.

ive already talked about how the pussy boots movie underwhelmed me as an extension of the shrek franchise, how the nimona movie has so much less bite and intrigue than the original graphic novel, and how the spidey movie is constantly reminding us of its own liberal politics (it’s literally copaganda: the movie). but mostly, these movies just didn’t really stick in my mind at all beyond their cool visuals. they employ a handful of shallow tropes and impart a somewhat progressive message (trans rights! mental health is important! black superheroes! girlboss princess peach!) and call it a day.

what i love about a film like shrek is that it actually has layers, and you could spend a significant amount of time and countless rewatches just peeling the onion. all of these movies want to be shrek in their own way (nimona comes closest, but also just makes me wish i was rewatching shrek, which i then did), but they all fail because their messages are so superficial. what makes miyazaki’s films, for instance, so special to me, is not just the incredible artistry that goes into every frame, but the depth of the story being told. i don’t feel that depth in these movies.

i want to support animated movies that are made with more creativity than the disney profit-motivated model of generating the most cost effective corporate product, but just because these movies aren’t following that model exactly, doesn’t mean i don’t see that model being reflected in the writing. or maybe i’m just not the target audience for a bunch of films meant to pacify kids for 90 minutes, and frankly, i never have been, even when i was a kid (don’t get me started on how much i dislike pixar movies). then again, movies like shrek exist. so it is possible, and therefore i demand better.

hiii clyde about the jill thing i think i agree with most of your interpretation of her but i’ve started to see petscop as based a lot less in reality so i can’t say for certain if she did certain things. one thing that interests me is jill possibly kidnapping paul. i think story wise it makes sense if she did but i cannot piece together why she would do it motive wise we really don’t know anything about her. what are your thoughts on her motives bc your reads on petscop are always really in depth and thoughtful.

hiii archie thank you ummm the kidnapping read i think people argue is because chronologically the last time we hear paul speak is the end of 14, where he frantically calls jill with news that the game pulled dialogue directly from him/has strong evidence connecting him to care, and then it abruptly cuts to him trapped in the car. after this he plays in complete silence, or his microphone audio was removed. its not confirmed but heavily implied that jill is the one running the channel or is at least involved with editing and posting the videos. i think paul may have been complaining about being or feeling trapped by the family, but jill sloppily edited it out. the family said themselves that the purpose of the channel under their supervision was to preserve recordings of petscop, so it may happen that paul ended his lament right as he was starting up his file, and jill didnt want to lose any of that information.

i feel the same in that my reading has become less grounded in reality as well, and i think this is something a lot of people get caught up in when trying to understand the series. when approaching it with this lens it makes it feel chaotic and nonsensical. i think there is non literal meaning to almost everything that happens in the series, and something ive noticed in tonys works is he will often sacrifice logical sense for the sake of conveying a concept. its unconventional for sure, but really enjoyable once you get used to it.

paul being trapped in a car is a direct parallel to care being kidnapped and driven to the school. the family repeating the cycle of what happened to care (and possibly lina) is significant. i think jills motives lie in preservation, especially in terms of investigating the final thoughts of her son before he killed himself. she may kidnap paul as a way of controlling both what parts of the game are posted online and also preventing paul from sitting on any more information. why she doesnt just take the game herself (and it seems she attempted to, and maybe altered it when she did) could possibly be because she sees paul as a valuable tool at her disposal. if the game was lying dormant since 2004 its safe to assume the family had little to no luck in progressing, and seeing paul solve the puzzles (obviously with help from belle which he later enlists again, which jill blatantly ignores) may have made the family see him as indispensable. theres also the fact paul himself is family, and thus the family may feel a sort of ownership over him, or insist he holds an obligation toward them for this fact. meanwhile, jill has little interest in belle despite her puzzle genius because she is not part of the family in her eyes.

thus, the main thing is likely the fact paul is family. belles a much better puzzle solver than paul but jill takes paul anyway, because she can control him. i think that is the key.

I just got home from the gym and omg i feel so good.

I need to charge my apple watch and actually use it so i can track everything 😭

I ate so good today and treated myself to a vanilla cupcake protein drink 😌 it was so good, super sweet so it was perfect to kill my sweetness cravings and also i think its good to have sweet things after working out??? Anyways it had 40g protein amd was like 180 cals.

I work in fast food so it is hard having so much temptation around me, but ive found an extreme love for the grilled nuggets (15 cals per nugget) and the kale salad (i think its 170 total including the dressing and almonds) i also had some fruit before my workout cuz i really wanted some sugar. In total i think today i had about 530 cals which isnt too bad ! Im gonna fast for the next 24 hours since i dont work tomorrow 😌

I also took my magnesium and B-12 supplements 😌 along with having 2 large cups of water eith mio vitamin drops mixed in !!

Im genuinely feeling so good about this start, the past few times ive been like “im starting diet NOW” it hasnt worked out, but my hormones are more balanced and im so much more motivated!! Im very excited for my progress :) even in just a month i feel ill have made significant progress :)

having a lot of trouble trying to get the mesh to a poly count where i can add detail. the mesh kept giving me small artifacts. after getting it so that that wouldnt happen anymore, my program kept crashing allowing me to lose significant progress multiple times over despite trying to remeber to save more frequently.

at this point the whole file wouldnt open anymore. i had managed to export the mesh and open it in blender so i could atleast take screen shots of the progress i had made but safe to say my computer does not have the hardware to make highly detailed sculpts. I am going to try to remesh the more detailed mesh and see if i have better luck adding detail in blender. I want this mesh to be grotesque and i need detail for that.

I had re done the lower jaw atleast 6 or so times and still no luck as it kept crashig either before or during saving/exporting the mesh.

I have had Zbrush crash upwards of twenty times, blender crashed five times and my entire computer shut down seven or more times. Ive lost track.

ive had quite a rough week, i am making progress and i keep working but its worth mention this does not help with morale.

on friday i decided to start doing "detail work" in blender using an older version of the mesh that i had remeshed to have lower poly count.

Ive watched quite a lot of videos on sculpting and all of the detailed sculpts are very high poly very quickly so i really didnt expect this to be that much of a problem. A lot of these vidoes were busts but it should still be posible to make a detailed model.

I was incredebly unhappy with how little detail i could get in and concidered painting over the normal map to just draw on the detail instead but was really worried that would take far too long and would get really confusing. (the most detailed I could get it shown here v smooth shading applied because it was horrendous)

i kept trying to open the higher poly files in zbrush and blender because i really wanted that sculpted detail but the programs wouldnt budge and my computer crashed another two times. Until it didnt!

I dont know what i did differently but suddenly it worked again. I was so exctatic that i could finally do some proper work that i ended up working through the weekend to atleast finish up the details in the face, started the teeth, and started with some more definition on the body.
