Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Epilogue
James found herself lingering in the library when she knew she ought not to. She had just sent another human into their chosen pocket dimension, this time a historical romance, and she really needed to get back to her office to receive the next one. She knew this, and yet her feet refused to co-operate.
She couldn’t stop wondering after the human alpha she had recently worked with, although she wasn’t sure if humans would agree with her use of the word ‘recent’. They didn’t normally, and James had learnt that time flowed differently for humans than it did for Curators.
No, her mind was behaving badly. It was wandering off without her permission and whispering suggestions of going to check on the human alpha, even though James’ shift was still far from over.
Before she could think better of it, James turned and started walking towards the hidden backroom of the library, where books that were in current use were stored. Surely, it would be okay for her to have a little look at what that human alpha was up to. She would only linger for a little while and then she would get back to work.
She entered the backroom and scanned the shelves for the correct book. It wasn’t difficult to find, but she suddenly felt nervous. It wasn’t as if Curators weren’t allowed to watch the pocket dimensions, in fact, she knew several of her peers who did so regularly, but James had never felt the urge.
Until now.
“Just a quick peek, then I’ll greet my next human.” She opened the book and put it into viewing mode.
...
Ugh, you really shouldn’t have bought this much stuff. You juggled the shopping bags awkwardly, but persevered forwards as best as you could. It wasn’t your fault that there was a sale on today, how could you resist getting an entire bag of fresh peaches? You wondered if you could figure out how to make peach lemonade. It was the height of summer and a refreshing drink sounded like heaven right about now.
At least your new sandals were working well. They had been a gift from your parents when they returned from their business trip, and they were as cool as they were durable.
You dodged around a bush so that the branches didn’t abduct any of your shopping, grateful that you were getting used to this route now. Although you had grown up in the area, you had never really had a reason to stray this far. Of course, not until you met him.
Ugh, him. He was perfect. No, he was beyond perfect.
You had found him by chance, and the first few weeks had been a whirlwind, but you knew, more than anything, that he was perfect for you.
And there he was, in all his perfection, as you finally reached your home.
Itachi.
He was standing in the chicken run, his long, dark hair swept up out of his face in a more stringent ponytail than normal. You had helped him with it before you left, after his fringe kept getting stuck to his skin. He was wearing a pair of incredibly short shorts, and a loose T-shirt that always fell away from his chest whenever he bent over. It was a personal favourite of yours, but one that you never let him wear outside of your own home.
Itachi must have heard you, because he turned, a grin lighting up his face. You could see he had a smudge of mud on the swell of his left cheek.
Itachi was utterly stunning. He took your breath away effortlessly, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Alpha!” he called, lifting one hand up in a wave. “Look!”
It took you a moment to understand what he wanted you to look at, but you eventually realised that he wasn’t waving; he was clutching two chicken eggs.
“Amazing!” you called back, approaching the back gate, but stopping at the fence as you realised you didn’t have free hands to unlock it.
“The chickens are finally old enough to lay eggs!” Itachi was practically beaming as he exited the run. A couple of chickens attempted to make an escape, but Itachi flicked his fingers and gently knocked them back with magic. “Look!” He came right up to you now, letting you into the garden, and holding the eggs in front of your face.
“That’s brilliant, ‘tachi. Why don’t you help me get all this unpacked inside, and we can cook the eggs for some lunch. I have some peaches and lemons for lemonade, too.”
You both headed into the kitchen through the back door. You dumped everything on the table and gratefully slumped into a chair, thankful to be out of the hot sun. Itachi practically floated around the kitchen, still beaming. He unpacked what he needed and immediately started making lunch. He settled on shakshuka with the fated peach lemonade.
It was with great amusement that you watched Itachi don his cooking apron, the one you’d specially embroidered with ‘Proud Chicken Oma’.
After you had cooled down a little, you slowly unpacked the rest of the shopping, until Itachi called you over to the oven.
“I’m going to fry the eggs,” he said, sounding giddy. You had known that he wanted chickens, you did too, but the genuine joy that they gave him still surprised you. You felt so incredibly lucky that you had literally wandered into his life by accident, and that he had allowed you to stay.
“Let me watch.” You hugged him from behind and peered over his shoulder. And if you also took a quick sneaky look down his shirt while you were there, well, no one could prove it. It was probably too hot for hugs, but you couldn’t make yourself let go. You nuzzled into the area where you would one day put your bond mark, but for now lay unbroken skin.
Itachi wanted you to meet each other’s families before you properly bonded. Hopefully that day would come sooner rather than later, because having him walk around without your claim was driving you mad.
Itachi cracked the egg into the pan, and perhaps you were too much of a sappy romantic, but the lucky double yolk that it contained felt symbolic.
The silence was thick enough to cut. You took a sip of your tea to try and stave off the awkwardness, but it didn’t help.
You were sitting at your kitchen table with Itachi and his parents. Sasuke had been sent out to collect some eggs, most likely so Fugaku and Mikoto could talk to you alone, but even now that Sasuke was firmly outside, the silence remained heavy and oppressive.
“How long have you known each other?” Fugaku asked, finally breaking it.
“A few months, father.” Fugaku’s lips tightened and the lines around his eyes deepened. You got the vibe that he wasn’t happy with that answer. It was such a shame that Itachi cared about their opinions.
“And how did you meet?”
You cleared your throat, “Itachi found me unconscious in a snowstorm and nursed me back to health.”
There was a beat of silence, before Mikoto spoke. “Then you owe my son a life debt, you would do well to remember that.”
You were really getting the vibe that they didn’t like you. It was for that reason, that you hastened to reassure them that you had been looking after Itachi as well.
“Oh! Well, I returned the favour by giving Itachi my cloak when all his clothes were destroyed in the middle of the woods.”
Itachi immediately went red faced, and held up his hands, sputtering. Oh, whoops. That definitely sounded like you had been fucking in the woods. Of course, you had actually fucked in those woods, but that wasn’t what you meant to share with his parents of all people.
“We didn’t—It was an Amplexus plant!” Itachi explained hurriedly, his face continuing to darken. “I needed the seeds for a potion, and it got a hold of me, that’s all!”
Itachi’s panicked explanation broke the tension, as his mother started giggling, and his father sighed and put his face in his palm.
“Sasuke is our only hope,” Fugaku muttered.
It was at that moment that a squawk sounded from outside. Sasuke’s dulcet tones followed shortly afterwards.
“Try that again, you glorified rat, and I’ll burn off all your feathers, I fucking mean it, I—”
Fugaku sighed again and downed the rest of his tea like it was the alcohol he clearly needed.
There was no sweeter smell in the world than the one of yours and Itachi’s scents mingling together. And while you were certain many other alphas would say the same about them and their omegas, you were pretty sure you were right.
You panted onto Itachi’s neck, basically drooling. A joint heat and rut wasn’t the greatest for practical reasons, but fuck, if it wasn’t the perfect time to exchange mating bites.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” Itachi slurred, hips rocking up to meet yours at every thrust. “Bite me, alpha, claim me, please!”
You groaned, knot already catching on his rim. It was getting harder and harder to control yourself. Itachi mouthed at the juncture between your shoulder and neck, the place where he would soon be placing your bite, and your self-control collapsed like a house of cards.
Your knot tied you and Itachi together, plunging you both into an orgasm. Somewhere, through the haze, your teeth managed to find their mark. You bit down just as you started filling Itachi with your cum. Itachi seized but managed to bite back.
You rode the waves together. It was the longest orgasm of your life, and by far the most powerful. Your mind was clouded with lust and emotion. Every instinct in your body was screaming, but they were all screaming different things; it was making you dizzy.
Protect him.
Make him scream.
Get him pregnant.
Hide him away.
Show him off.
Love him. Love him. Love him.
Yes, yes, you were going to love him, you did love him… And everything was going to be perfect.
You ran out of your joint bedroom potions lab barefoot, having abandoned your slippers in your haste.
“Itachi! There’s been an incident!”
You heard a crash from the kitchen, and quickly, Itachi came racing out to meet you in the living room.
“What is it? What’s going on?!” He scanned you from head to toe but couldn’t see an injury. He had known that you were playing with magic, and he was rightfully worried about what you had managed to do.
“It’s gone,” you said, wide eyed.
“What’s gone?!”
“My dick.”
Itachi blinked at you, processing, before his face morphed into something horrified.
“What? How can—?! What were you doing?! What do you mean gone?!” He grabbed you by the shoulders and shook you roughly. “Tell me what happened!”
“I was just playing around and then suddenly it was gone,” you explained, wringing your hands.
“What spell did you use?” Itachi asked frantically. “I can reverse it. We can figure it out!”
“I don’t know… I mean, at least I’m still alive right? It could have been worse.”
Itachi was still horrified, and you’d wager that he didn’t agree with you.
“No! I mean, yes, but we still need to fix it. Let me see!” He knelt down and started to aggressively tug down your shorts and underwear. “Maybe I can perform a reversal of—”
He managed to get the fabric down and out popped your dick, unharmed and just as it always was. Itachi blinked at it. You started cracking up, unable to hold the laughter in anymore. Itachi, realising that he’d been pranked, scowled at you.
He stood, crossing his arms and huffing. “That wasn’t funny.”
“Yes, it was,” you laughed, wiping away your tears. “You’re completely obsessed with my dick, I knew it! I’m just a glorified dildo to you, huh?”
“You’re being ridiculous.” Itachi had delightfully rosy cheeks.
“Am I? So, you don’t want to suck it?” You playfully shook your hips, wiggling your dick, playfully.
Itachi wavered. You waited patiently.
“This has nothing to do with anything,” he said, kneeling down in front of you.
“Whatever you say, darling.”
“Shut up!”
He was so much fun to tease. Hopefully, he never found out that you had the same obsession with his nipples.
“We do need more space, but I still want to maintain that cosy vibe, you know?”
“I agree. We could always increase the number of rooms, but still have them all be fairly small and closed off.”
You and Itachi were pouring over several sketches, trying to design your new home. You had decided to move closer to the nearest town, although you were still staying firmly in the woods because neither of you wanted to give up your private sanctuary. You also just needed more space. You needed a bigger dining table, more bedrooms, a separate potions lab, and crucially more storage space so that you didn’t come across snake eyes in the fridge when you were trying to make a sandwich.
Thankfully, with Itachi’s magic, the local builders, and the money sent from your parents, it was sure to be a smooth process.
“I think we should have a bedroom for Sasuke to use,” you said, tapping on an empty part of the proposed floorplan. “Not just a guest bedroom, but one that’s specifically his.”
Itachi nuzzled into your shoulder. “You wouldn’t mind? Because that would be amazing.”
“Of course not. He’ll be old enough to visit on his own soon, and I want to make sure he knows he’s welcome.” You liked Sasuke and you understood why Itachi loved him so much. He was like a tiny murder kitten that loved to scratch people. It was adorable.
“We have the pup rooms, the lab…” Itachi peered down at the paper. “Is that everything?”
You hummed, considering. “I think so. Unless you want a nesting room. Although, I’ve never seen you nest before, so if you don’t want one, that’s fine.”
“Oh.” Itachi was silent for a moment. “I’ve never tried nesting before.”
You immediately wished his parents would return so you could punch them in the face. Carefully keeping all the anger below the surface so you didn’t make Itachi think you were angry with him, you brushed some hair out of his face.
“Do you want to try it? We can try together, and if you like it, we can get a little nesting space added onto the master bedroom.”
Itachi smiled, looking unsure. “Okay. I suppose we can try it.”
“Well, I’m not an expert, but I think I can help with a simple nest layout.” You leant back and surveyed all the materials you had for nesting. Most of it was stuff that Itachi had made, some of it was things you had made, and a couple of pieces were from a craftsperson in town, made from rarer and more difficult materials. There was more than enough for a nice nest.
You slotted the heaviest duty and flattest pillows into the corner and arranged them in a double layer before securing them together with a sheet.
“One of my old partners used to arrange the base like this. It works well.”
Itachi growled and immediately destroyed the base, stacking it in a different way. Oh, yeah, whoops. Itachi was way too possessive for you to casually be bringing up old partners.
“You’ve had other omega partners?” he asked, still rearranging the base. His voice was carefully controlled, like he was trying to sound distracted, when in reality, his attention was fully on your answer.
“Yeah, I—” You paused, trying to retrieve the memories. It was strange… You could have sworn you had past partners but trying to grasp onto details felt like trying to catch smoke. You could see flashes of dates, gifts and physical features, but you couldn’t really make sense of it. You wondered if it was a side effect of the amnesia spell you’d had. You decided not to mention it in case Itachi got worried. “I’ve had a couple, but they didn’t go anywhere. It never felt right, y’know?”
Itachi hummed, reasonably placated.
You continued to help him with small suggestions until you recognised the signs of an omega in nest building mode. Instincts took over, and you leant back to let Itachi do it how he wanted to.
The nest was so very him, even for his first attempt. It was chaos, but organised chaos, with gentle colours and neutrals, and lots of wool.
Itachi sat back, blinking the daze away. “Now what?”
“Now you get in it.”
“And… what’s the point? What will being in it do?” He was staring at the nest reverently, and you knew he was going to like it.
“It should help you relax.”
Itachi bit his lip, but gingerly climbed in and tried to get himself comfortable. He fiddled with a few final pieces, but once he was settled, he sighed, seeming content.
After a few moments, he looked over at you. “Do you… want to come in, too?”
You grinned, and agreed, carefully climbing in and spooning your omega.
With you there with him, Itachi curled his legs up to his chest and went boneless. His purrs were so loud that you could feel them in your chest, but he either didn’t notice or didn’t care. He nuzzled into the pillow his head was on, basking in the soft materials.
You kept holding him but tried to remain still so as to not disturb his first nesting experience. You didn’t want to distract him from his bliss. You were honestly so shocked that he had never nested before. Had his family kept him so busy from such a young age that he had never had the time?
You made a mental note to see if you could add a nesting nook for Sasuke’s room too, seeing as he was also an omega and had probably received similar treatment. If he couldn’t have one at home, at least he could have one here.
Suddenly, Itachi stopped purring.
“Is something wrong, baby?” you cooed, gently stroking his hair. “We can fix whatever it is, I promise.”
Itachi only whined, pushing his hips back into yours. He seemed really out of it, not that that was particularly surprising. If he’d been repressing himself, knowingly or not, for his entire life, then his instincts were going to try and take over the second they could.
“What do you need, omega? Come on, tell alpha.”
Itachi pouted, whining again. He shoved his hips back harder this time, like he was making a point. Oh.
“I see.” Your mind was racing at how hot he was. “Do you want to cockwarm, honey?”
Itachi nodded, his purring starting back up again now that you were understanding him. Oh, he was just the sweetest, horniest little thing and you would set the world on fire for him.
You carefully untucked your already half-hard cock, trying to avoid knocking anything out of place. When you were free, you tugged his trousers down and easily slipped inside him.
When your hips met his skin, Itachi purred louder than he had before, melting into the nest completely. His eyes rolled back, and he was lost in the fuzziness.
Okay… so you definitely needed that nesting room.
You looked around your new living room proudly, savouring the ‘new’ smell. The entire house was perfect. It kept the essence of the old one, but you had so much more space. No more tripping over cauldrons in the morning, or accidentally spilling powdered bone on the carpet when you were trying to clean.
You were almost finished with the unpacking. The house still seemed pretty empty, but that was good; the house would be able to grow with you.
Itachi had scurried off into the bedroom a few minutes ago with one of the boxes, but you were still sorting through living room stuff. You peered into the nearest box. And kitchen stuff apparently. Why did you own so many wooden spoons?
“Alpha?! Can you come help me with something, please?!” Itachi called from the bedroom.
You stood up, stretching out your sore arms, and then went over to the master bedroom. You pushed open the door easily.
“What do you ne—”
Suddenly, you were reminded of the very first time you had ever walked into Itachi’s bedroom in the old house, the time where he had been half naked and in the middle of changing.
Here, he was half-naked again, but this time it looked purposeful, because Itachi was wearing lingerie.
It was a two-piece set, made out of a dark blue silk that perfectly contrasted against Itachi’s pale skin. Embroidered on it were hundreds of tiny, silver stars, creating the image of a night’s sky. Extra pieces of gauzy, see through fabric had been attached to the top piece, which hide absolutely nothing, but acted as a delightful tease. The set was clearly hand made, and damn, he was again, taking your breath away.
“Well, hello,” you cooed, feeling that stupid horny alpha grin slide onto your face. “What’s all this?”
Itachi fidgeted bashfully as you approached. “It’s a surprise, a celebration for the new house.”
“It’s a lovely surprise.” You ran your hands over his heated skin, feeling the silk with your palms. You kissed him heavily, your fingers dancing along the edge of his panties. “This is perfect for the new house, do you know why?”
“Hm? Why?” Itachi moaned, tilting his neck submissively, and giving you access to his bond mark. You nipped around the scar before answering.
“Because we still need to break in the new bed.”
“That will be 500 ryo, thank you.” The man handed you the requested amount and took the pouch of amethyst dust in return.
“How many enchanted apples for these?” a little boy asked, holding up a lovely bouquet of flowers. Oh yes, he was the florist’s son, you remembered.
“Hmm,” you took the flowers and appraised them. “How about three?” The boy nodded enthusiastically and grabbed three apples before running home. These flowers would be a lovely surprise for Itachi.
“Do you have any more of the inflammation potions?” an old man asked, approaching the store. You recognised him immediately and put the flowers down, ready for a likely lengthy and completely inappropriate discussion. “They’re great for the old joints.”
“We have three left. How many would you like?”
“I’ll take the lot, thank you.” You wrapped the order up and passed it over. He handed you money in return. “Thank you. There’s a lot of downsides to getting old, but the joint pain is the worst of it in my opinion. At least I don’t have to put up with heats anymore. They’re great fun when you’re young, but when your back starts to go, well, you find yourself wishing them away.”
You hummed politely.
“This is why it’s so important for alphas to hone their skills in bed. I can’t count the number of times a young alpha has believed they don’t need to worry about sex skills because an omega in heat is so far gone that everything feels good, but one day the heats will stop, and besides, some of the best sex happens outside of heats and ruts and all that nonsense.”
You laughed, shaking your head. Why did your market stall always attract the weirdest advice and clientele?
“I’d wager you know all about that though. Has Itachi come home with any surprises lately?” You must have looked surprised, because the man winked. “Who do you think taught him how to embroider silk?”
You snorted. Of course. You made sure to slip a complimentary headache potion in as a thank you.
“The bedding is all fresh and clean, we bought it especially, and this blanket, I knitted it for you so you’d be warm, it can get cold out here. Oh! And also—”
“I’m fine,” Sasuke said, a slight red flush on his cheeks. “You worry too much, big brother.”
You watched from the doorway as Itachi fussed over Sasuke. Now 14, he was old enough to make the journey here on his own, and this would be the first time he was making proper use of his room. Itachi had been driving himself crazy trying to make everything perfect. You reckoned he was trying to ensure Sasuke had a good enough time that he’d want to come back.
Itachi’s face screwed up in indecision. “Maybe I should get another blanket for you, just in case.”
“Brother—” Too late. Itachi left the room to grab another blanket, leaving you and Sasuke alone. He glared at you harshly. Oh dear, here came the kitten claws.
“I know several spells that would remove all the parts needed to make sure you never touch my brother again. Just saying.” Sasuke crossed his arms and tried to look threatening. You had to try to keep your giggles under controls.
“Itachi wouldn’t like that very much,” you said lightly, remembering his reaction to your ‘I accidentally spelled my dick away’ prank. “And besides, that would be a very rude thing to do to the person hosting you.”
Sasuke growled, but you only raised an eyebrow at him.
“What’s going on?” Itachi walked in, another blanket bundled up in his arms.
You immediately snitched. “Your brother is threatening to cut my dick off.”
Itachi gasped, “Sasuke!”
Sasuke glared at you, but you only stuck your tongue out at him. You were seriously looking forward to the next week.
“So!” you clapped your hands together and looked eagerly around at all the potion supplies. “What potion am I learning today?”
You had been having Itachi teach you magic since you moved in, and while you were hardly a prodigy like him and his brother, you were starting to get decent at it, especially potions.
“It’s a pretty simple one, but it requires exact temperature control,” Itachi explained, pulling over a small cauldron. “We’ll need to use runes to manage that.”
“Exciting,” you murmured, trying to recall which runes would work best for temperature control. Probably the same ones that Itachi carved on your hot chocolate mugs. “What does the potion do?”
Itachi smiled, “You’ll see when we’re done.”
“Nooo, Itachi,” you whined. “I want to know now.”
“Later, I promise.” He laughed as you pouted and starting rattling off the ingredients list. “Now, help me crush the beans.”
Time passed quickly as you concentrated on following the potion recipe as best as you could. Before long, it was a blinding white and gently steaming, just as the drawing on the recipe showed.
“It’s ready,” you said proudly, closing the lid on the jar of moss. “Now will you tell me what it does?”
“It needs some blood to work,” Itachi explained. He grabbed a sharp knife and held it to his finger.
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to hurt yourself. Could my blood work instead?”
Itachi laughed lightly. “That wouldn’t work; it has to be me. Don’t worry, it will only be the slightest prick.”
You weren’t happy, but you allowed it, and two drops of Itachi’s blood fell into the cauldron. It immediately started bubbling.
“What’s supposed to happen?”
“Well, it will turn one of two colours.” Itachi leaned over the cauldron and watched intently. “Gold or black.” As he spoke the potion turned to a brilliant gold and Itachi beamed.
“What does gold mean?” you asked, wishing he would just explain what this potion was already.
“Gold means that the person who donated the blood is pregnant.”
“Right, okay, and what does black mea— Hang on, what did you say?”
“I’m pregnant,” he clarified, watching your reaction.
You swallowed heavily, “What?”
Itachi giggled, “I’m not going to say it again.”
“Holy shit.” Your brain blue screened for a moment, before it rebooted, and the phrase properly sank into your brain.
Itachi was pregnant. Pregnant. As in, there would shortly be a baby, your baby, and his baby.
“I love you,” you blurted out, wide eyed. “We are going to need so much baby stuff.”
Itachi laughed, tearing up. “We’ll figure it out.”
“You can do it, Daiki! Come on baby, walk to appa!” You were crouched on the floor, arms open and ready.
Daiki gave a little pup whine, but still tried, toddling over on unstable steps. He managed to get three good steps in before he fell into your arms.  You caught him easily.
“Whoo! Look at that! You’re such a clever pup, isn’t that right?” You lifted up your baby and blew a raspberry on his stomach, dissolving him into giggles. Daiki did some proud wiggles as you put him back down, glancing over at Itachi for positive attention as well.
Itachi smiled, eyes glazed with sickness, from his position laying on the sofa. “Good job, baby.”
Daiki squealed, grinning and shoving a fist into his mouth.
Itachi was watching you both, even though he was unwell. This was the first time that he was properly ill since Daiki was born, and he was nervous about it. You had quickly learnt that Itachi had very low expectations of your parenting abilities. You tried your best not to take it personally, understanding that alpha parents in his family weren’t normally the most hands on, but it did sting sometimes. You were doing your best to prove him wrong.
Was it easy for you to do all the cooking, cleaning, childcare, and caring for Itachi at the same time? No.
But was it something you were happy to do while your partner recovered? Of course.
Speaking of caring for Itachi, you probably needed to resoak the flannel on his forehead. You shuffled over, keeping an eye on Daiki, and gently lifted the cloth. Like you’d expected, it felt warm to the touch.
You resoaked the flannel in the bowl of ice water and wringed it out before gently wiping down Itachi’s face.
“How are you feeling?” you asked softly, dabbing around his neck.
“I’m okay.” Itachi sighed and sent you a weak smile. “How are you—”
“Oma! Oma!” Daiki had crawled over to you both and grabbed a fistful of Itachi’s top to pull himself into a standing position. “Oma!”
“Careful, darling.” You unwrapped Daiki’s hands from Itachi’s top and supported him up yourself. He seemed to realise that something was wrong, because he blinked at you and Itachi, and curled in on himself unsurely.
“Oma?” he asked, bottom lip wobbling.
“Oma is poorly, but he’s okay,” you said softly, smoothing down Daiki’s hair. He looked unsure, but he eventually nodded and patted Itachi gently on the arm. Itachi took his hand and covered it in kisses, and Daiki finally relaxed.
Suddenly, from the kitchen, you heard the sound of dinner boiling over.
“Oh! Come on Daiki, we have to go and save dinner!” You stood up, picking up your pup as you did.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to do something?” Itachi asked, sitting up slightly.
“Rest.” You stared him into submission, and Itachi reluctantly laid back down. “I can handle everything, trust me.”
Itachi still wasn’t comfortable relinquishing control, but you’d get there. For now, you had a sick omega and a needy pup to tend to.
You pottered around the kitchen, putting away the washing up, while Sasuke diligently took notes on spellcrafting at the kitchen table. You were used to him being around by this point, as he had moved in five months ago to take a magical apprenticeship under Itachi. As you understood it, his parents had encouraged him to stay in their village for his apprenticeship, but Sasuke had insisted that Itachi teach him.
Thankfully he had mellowed out a lot, and now when he threatened to cut off your dick, he was only joking.
At least you hoped he was joking.
Itachi was out today manning the stall in town, which meant you were holding down the fort and looking after Daiki.
The pup in question was currently playing in the garden with Sasuke’s cat, who was just as prickly as him, but had a soft spot for Daiki. At four years old, you were okay to let him play alone as long as he didn’t leave the fenced in section, and you could see him from the kitchen window.
Sasuke sighed, putting down his pen to rub at his temples.
“Having trouble with the spellcraft?”
“No.” He gave you no other information, so you decided to pour him a glass of orange juice as a peace offering and sit down with him. Clearly something was weighing on the teenager.
“Is something wrong, Sasuke?”
“No.” It was a predictable Sasuke response that you didn’t buy for even a second.
You knew that he’d need a bit more prying. “Are you sure?”
Sasuke hesitated. You remained entirely silent as he battled with himself, knowing that any amount of encouragement would only cause him to clam up. Eventually, he spoke, his words coming out slowly. “My father sent me a message.”
“I see.”
“He wants me to come back home, now. He said he’s found me another teacher.”
You nodded, and carefully kept judgement out of your words. “And how does that make you feel?” Sasuke shrugged, playing with the pencil. “You know that you’re always, always welcome here, Sasuke, never doubt that. Even if you decide to stop studying under Itachi, you can always stay here or visit as often as you want.”
Sasuke’s shoulders relaxed and you knew you’d hit the nail on the head. “Okay.”
“Do you want me to tell your father that you’re extending your apprenticeship here?” Sasuke nodded, looked relieved. You gave him an affectionate squeeze on the shoulder, and he relaxed even further.
“Thanks,” he muttered, sipping his orange juice.
“Of course; you’re family.”
Outside, the chickens started squawking, which was your cue to go and grab Daiki, so you left Sasuke at the table and went out into the garden. “Daiki, what did I say about messing with the chickens?”
But it wasn’t Daiki, it was Itachi getting home that had set them all off. He was carrying multiple bags on his shoulders, and he looked incredibly winded. You ran over to grab the bags.
“Are you okay? Come on in.” Itachi panted and followed you inside. He looked completely exhausted; even Sasuke jumped up to help when he saw the state that his brother was in.
“What happened?” Sasuke demanded.
“Nothing, nothing, I’m just winded from the walk.”
“Bullshit!” Sasuke swore, putting a hand on his brother’s forehead. “You shouldn’t be this tired from a thirty-minute walk.”
“Sasuke, don’t swear,” Itachi reprimanded. “I’m just tired, nothing more.”
You raised an eyebrow, grabbing him a glass of water, but making sure he knew that you didn’t believe him. Itachi took the glass gratefully and downed the whole thing.
When it became clear that neither you nor Sasuke would be letting the issue go, Itachi sagged down in his chair.
“It’s nothing, really,” he insisted. “I think—Well, I’m pretty sure I’m tired because—”
“Because?”
“Because I’m pregnant,” he blurted out, looking to you bashfully. “I’m sorry, I was going to tell you soon, I just hadn’t decided how yet.”
“Wha—Really? That’s amazing!” All your previous suspicions were forgotten, and you hugged Itachi tightly, feeling giddy at the amazing news.
Sasuke sent you a suspicious glare, but he had long since made peace with the fact that you and Itachi were having sex as long as he was able to live in denial about it.
You laughed gleefully and covered Itachi’s face with kisses as he giggled. “I guess it’s only me on market duty for the next year then, huh?”
You filled up his glass again. Now that you knew he was pregnant, your instincts were going to remain in ‘overly doting’ mode for the foreseeable future.
“Actually, I was thinking…” Sasuke awkwardly trailed off, scuffing his feet on the ground. “Maybe I could take over some stuff with the market stall. We could open it more days a week then, and you could spend more time on parent duty or whatever. I mean, I still need to study, but I have some free time, and it would bring in some more money.”
You grinned, ruffling Sasuke’s hair. His sheepish expression melted into a petulant pout. “That’s an amazing idea! Seeing as you’re going to be around for at least another six months, it makes a lot of sense! I’ll take you with me a few times until you’re confident doing it alone, okay?”
He rolled his eyes, “It’s not hard.”
Itachi, pregnant and probably incredibly hormonal, burst into tears at the idea that Sasuke living with you would be a more permanent thing.
Sasuke, completely allergic to feelings, promptly fled the room with the excuse that he had to practice a potion, leaving you to delicately wipe Itachi’s tears away.
“I’m happy,” Itachi sobbed into your neck. “I’m so happy.”
“Me too, baby, me too.”
You were incredibly lucky to be able to say that and deeply and truly mean it.
James watched as the human alpha built a home with their children, their mate, their mate’s brother, their mate’s brother’s cat, and seven… turkeys? Something like that, James couldn’t quite remember the word for those tiny creatures.
The human was happy, and bizarrely, that made James feel happy too. The weird burning in her chest subsided, and she was able to close ‘Potions and Magic and Sex, Oh My!’, knowing that her human made the right choice.
It was with a light heart that James left the library to guide more humans, knowing that her human alpha was happy.
If you asked her, the human alpha had more than earnt a happy second life.

So I feel like Neji gets way too much shit for his fight with Hinata during the Chunin exams
Was he a dick? Absolutely. Was he also not nearly as bad as people made it out? Also yes.
Allow me to explain
For one, yeah his verbal abuse of her is out of line and cruel. But it also serves a purpose, namely to try and scare her into giving up the fight early. He tells her multiple times to forfeit, before and even during the fight. He plays on her insecurities to pressure her into it because she has absolutely no chance against him
He also never strikes first. He waits for Hinata to make the first move several times, stays on the defensive constantly. So much so the others actually thinks she's got him on the back foot for a while. He counters her and blocks her tenketsu while he's at it.
He doesn't actually go for damage until that one strike that should have by rights taken her out of commission right then and there. But when she doesn't stop and gets back up, he actually looks horrified because she's injured, can't channel chakra, she's clearly defeated
...and then Neji too stops using chakra all together.
The whole fight it's made clear to us when chakra is involved in attacks, because the Gentle Fist relies on it, but after he blocks Hinata's tenketsu this stops completely. He doesn't go for her chest again until the very end, which is also the first time he uses chakra after stopping hers. He's losing his cool and he's trying to get her to stay down so the blow is stronger than it needs to be, but Hinata isn't exactly aiming for anything less lethal either. He matches her blow for blow, goes along with her movements, aims for the same places she does. He's just better than her so he actually does do damage.
And he could've taken her down fast and brutal if he'd wanted to. Kakashi is, pun intended, thunderstruck by Neji's level of skill. He acknowledges point blank that Sasuke wouldn't have a chance against Neji. Gaara is stimulated by that fight.
Hell, the kid makes Jonin at 15 and he has already reverse engineered some of the most advanced Hyuuga jutsu by 13 without anyone actually training him in them
He could end this fight in seconds, if he actually wanted to hurt Hinata. He doesn't. He wants her to walk away.
Hayate also tells the kids straight up that he will intervene when he thinks a fight is over cuz he doesn't want more corpses than necessary...but he let's it go on. It's not until Neji loses his cool completely that anyone actually steps in and then they have multiple Jonin rushing in to stop him cuz of how fucking dangerous Neji actually is
Also Hinata, despite her clear fear of facing him as an opponent, is still fond enough of him to call him brother. So despite the grudge Neji has against the main house and, by extension, Hinata, their relationship is still cordial enough
My conclusion is simple: Neji doesn't actually want to hurt her but he knows he can't guarantee that he won't so he wants her to quit before he does. And she just...doesn't back down and then turns the mind games back on him the whole fight. Unintentionally but the effect is the same. But her pointing out that he's hurting more than her...For a traumatized 13 year old always 2 seconds away from snapping, that's a tough pill to swallow. So he loses it and goes for her to shut her up...despite actually urging her to stop so she doesn't die just seconds before
He's definitely taking some shit out on her before that but he's not going into this fight to physically hurt her beyond reason. But his superior chakra control and frankly ridiculously good Byakugan give him an edge she can't overcome.
And Hinata had already lost by the time he got that first real blow in on her. A big part of why she ended up as badly as she did was because she refused to stop when she should have known she couldn't go on, Hayate and the Jonin stopped the fight too late and her tenacity slowly ate away at Neji's restraint
What I'm saying is basically that this is a shit situation from start to finish and no one deserves a warm handshake over anything that happens there. But Neji isn't nearly as bad as he's made out to be. Even provoking Naruto and Kurenai later on is cuz he's still riled up himself...but he does watch her being carried away the whole time too...

more fics on itachi need to express his obito complex
like okay itachi is the best in class and prettiest in the town and YET kakashi, the second best and hottest in town, is still hung up on his problems from obito. like with all the calculations in itachi's naive analytical brain he and kakashi are a perfect match (fugaku would begrudgingly agree despite him being an outsider) yet kakashi has an annoyingly dismissive attitude and is too fucking emo to actually pay attention to itachi because its always about rin and obito and how awful kakashi is a person and itachi doesnt know what therapy is so he cant help. so itachi drops that goal, gets indoctrinated with triple agent ideologies, kills his family, you know the deal.
and then hes teamed up with kisame and kisame is challenging all of his ideals and keeping him on his toes and suddenly hes got ATTENTION on him and itachi for the first time doesnt have to compare himself to a family member in front of kisame because hes fresh and new, oh and he killed his family so he would've never had the chance either way.
now i know itachi died before the audience got the tobi reveal but imagine obito reveals before. and itachi screams a little inside because what the fuck does he realize how fucked up kakashi is about him, and hold on kisame is talking to him familiarly? and kisame is like yeah madara/obito is who brough him into the akatsuki and he actually spent some time with him. itachi's brain record scratches for multiple reasons, but its fine! its fine! kisame worships him hes so loyal he met itachi after itachi got hotter and stronger and better. itachi is fine, except. well. until kisame mentions something about how are all uchiha traitors so masochistic while itachi is playing psychosexual mind games asking kisame to choke him during sex. and itachi, naive and selfcentered, is like i wouldnt know i killed my family (tragique!) and then itachi freezes and analyzes kisame's question. and then bolts up and says "did you fuck obito?"

Hi, Ray! So, I know you're kinda like me in that you tend to Fixate on one character in a fandom, and aren't really interested in reading fics about other characters. For me, in Naruto, my Fixation is, well, Naruto himself, I'm usually not interested in fics that don't include him. However, this fandom is one of the rare cases for me where I have multiple characters I Fixated on, namely Kakashi in this case. The point I'm leading up to here is that I recently read some amazing fic (1)
(2) that are entirely Kakashi-centric, and involve Naruto only on the side, so I'm not certain if you'll enjoy them or not. Just in case you would, though, allow me to present to you literally every fic by butter_peanut on ao3. Their fics are very popular, so there's a good chance you'll have already read them if you are into the Obikaka fic scene, but in that case just take this as me gushing to you. First of all, there's Kamui Blues. This one has some of my favorite Kakashi characterization
(3) that I have ever seen. Like, in canon, it often feels like Kakashi got nerfed hard for the sake of the plot. He has to be just strong enough to fight evenly with the enemy at the time, while also allowing Naruto to sweep in and make an impression, you know? It's a pretty normal thing in mentor characters, I get it, but it still itches at me just because of how much I ended up liking Kakashi. Kamui Blues is pretty much exactly the levels of genius Kakashi I wish we had gotten in canon.
(4) It is incredibly satisfying, to see him actually have the chance to use the skills he was stated to have in canon. Kamui Blues Kakashi actually feels like the natural extension of someone who made chuunin at six jonin at ten ANBU at 14. His whole thing was using a Sharingan to copy a thousand jutsu and using them so well that it became his title in a way that even actual Uchiha couldn't do, but we never actually get to see that in canon. Sure, he has cool moments, but it just
(5) doesn't feel like it measures up in comparison to what he could have been, you know? The New Recruit universe by that author also does a great job of actually letting Kakashi be an awesome badass, though the overall fics take more of a comedic route with moments of seriousness that Kamui Blues plot-heavy and serious with moments of comedy. Of course, then there's the Week in Kiri universe, which I also adore for... different reasons. It's the most smut-centric, but with character development
(6) of the fics. Honestly, Kamui Blues and Week in Kiri both have Kakashi characterization's that I enjoyed so much they are my new permanent headcanons for him. If you've read them, I'm sure you already know what I mean, and if you haven't I think it's better that you see for yourself rather than have me spoil it for you. Oh, and of course the sex is incredibly hot, and Kakashi is dripping with self-loathing in the most fascinating of ways. Basically, I just wanted to make sure you hadn't
(7) missed out on these absolute works of art. The relationship between Kakashi and Obito is exactly the amount of fucked up but affectionate and mutually obsessed with each other that drew me to the pairing in the first place. Like, it's literally canon that Obito stalked Kakashi from the Kamui dimension. How could I not fall in love with this pairing, huh? Tell me I'm wrong. Anyways, love you Ray, take care, just wanted to pop by and chat up one of my favorite authors a bit, see ya later! :)

A quick rundown of the naruto fanfic i've been rotating around my brain for the past couple of months.
More or less during the kanabi mission Obito gets yoinked instead of Rin. She unable to convince Kakashi to halt the mission to save him, and by the time they complete it-- its too late. The trail has gone cold. everyone assumes he's dead...
He isnt.
Obito is now a prisoner of war. He spends not an insignificant amount of time in an enemy prison, dreaming of the day of his escape. He makes multiple plans but security is tight and he knows damn well he will never walk out that gate on his own.
So he sets his sights to plan B. Whats plan B? Desperately trying to recreate the hiraishin so he can quite literally throw himself out of there.
unfortunately Obito doesn't really know jack shit about seals. He had basic sealing lessons sure-- but do you really think his adhd ass retained any of it? No. And whats worse is that he doesn't really remember the make up of the hirashin either. Like he knows the general shape of it. He could probably fake a decent look-alike, but that doesn't help in the function department.
Well... thanks to vast amounts of stress (and more than just threats a of torture) he succeeds! He makes a seal that actually works and escapes.
Through a long string of events he ends up running into(and subsequently helping) a few akasuki memebers. He ends up joining because they're hiding him, and if he doesn't his ass is going back to prison.
His environment is far from stable considering he(an uchiha) is in a war torn RAIN, but at least he can breath a little. He takes the chance to smooth out some of the kinks in his cool new Hiraishin recreation. This catches the attention of multiple people, with the rain trio being some of them. They decide to swing by just to see what all the hubbub is about in regard to their newest member.
Obito is bragging, and is absolutely showing off his cool new technique.
amazed they ask him how it works.
Obito shows them.
Nagito takes one fucking looks at that seal, kneels over, and dies(not really).
Yahiko is confused. Where is the seal? Obito points. Yahiko stares.
Now let it be known that Yahiko isnt exactly the most knowledgeable person when it comes to seals, but he was trained by Jiraiya. And by gods is that not a fucking seal. He tells Obito so. That is the most chicken-scratch scribble of nothing he has ever laid eyes upon.
Obito is offended.
It is too a seal! and look he says, it has many other features that the hiraishin doesn't have which makes it even better. Such as exploding when he forces too much chakra into it.
Yahiko points out that he could just attach a paper-bomb to his kunai. In fact doing so would not only be less draining but also better in every imaginable way.
Obito disagrees, for the coolness factor of his seal far outweighs that of a paper-bomb.
Yahiko points out that his seal doesn't have a locking mechanism. There's nothing stopping anyone from stealing the kunai and using it without Obito's permission.
Well, Obito clicks his tongue because he how dare he, the amount of chakra that must be used is extremely finicky. If they don't use the exact amount of chakra it wont work, as you can see from it exploding from being overloaded.
what happens if not enough chakra is applied?
well... obito has never tried. So he cant say for certain. But if he had to hazard a guess its nothing good. (they are violently torn apart and only maybe put back together in a somewhat correct order depending on how much chakra is being used.)
Needless to say no one wants anything to do with Obito's cool new seal anymore...

This is stupid, this was so fucking stupid but Jun would get himself killed of they didnt do something about it.
Maya and Kai knew for a while that their teammate was doing some shady shit lately, but this was damn near crazy. With Jun's landlord raising the price on rent he started to sell weapons to people that really, really shouldnt be having them. The teens knew money was needed to live in their world, but there had to be something better than that, especially something that wasnt gonna get their buddy arrested let alone lose his job.
Amaya was looking at her shoes, she knew this was the responsible thing to do, but she hated being a snitch--what happened to having eachother's backs no matter what? She took a glance at her level headed friend, "You sure we should do this, I mean I dont know if you have but I've certainly done my share of unethical shit for cash."
"Yeah, but first off you legitimately had no other option with your unemployed ass and secondly I remember you having to go to court multiple times for stealing," Kaito was biting his nails, he didnt really know why he was nervous. The kid trusted Kakashi, it wasnt like he'd throw the kid in a cell on sight, but still this was bad. Not to mention the guilt swallowing him for not calling this bullshit out when he found out a month ago.
They both knew it was pointless to try and talk since into their comrade now, the teen was too stubborn for his own good. Knowing Junpei he probably had been doing this for awhile now (considering that his landlord raised the rent almost four months ago) and was getting an adrenaline rush by not getting caught yet. But gods damn this could lead to serious trouble, with the law and rougher 'customers.'
Kaito wanted to go to Anko-sensei about it first, yet Maya brought up a good point; what would she be able to do? Don't get them wrong, they wouldnt trade their sensei for the world but when it came to legal strings she had little to none, at best she could maybe talk Jun down to taking a break from pushing illegal weapons.
The kids lost the chance for consideration when they saw a familiar silver haired man.
Kakashi was a busy man. There were a lot of things for him to do in a day and rarely did he find the opportunity to linger around and chat with old friends.
Yet, as he rounded the corner and laid eyes upon Kaito and Maya standing in the hallway just outside of his office, he couldn't help but feel like this was one of that moments he had to make time.
Perhaps it was the glum looks on their faces or the overbearing weight that seemed to hover in the small space. Maybe it was simply because he hated seeing the two of them look at him as if they were afraid to speak.
Afraid to tell him whatever it was that plagued his mind.
Coming to a stop in front of the pair he looked between them. An attempt to assess the situation before he broached the subject of their presence.
Judging by the way Kaito refused to meet his eyes, he guessed that it was bad.
Very bad.
"And to what do I owe the pleasure?" he asked in a poor attempt to lighten the mood even just a little.

Sol’s OBKK Fic Rec List
ObiKaka fic rec list let’s goooooo! Here’s a list of my absolute favourites and ones I’m currently subscribed to. I’ll be adding to this when new favs pop up.
Long Fic
Diplopia by blacknoise. [Probably abandoned].  Damn I love this one. Post-fourth war obkk where Obito is still an angy boy and vicious. It's pretty dark in places, and the relationship is pretty toxic and sex-fueled (by god there's a lot of sex), but it looks like it has the chance to slowly get better.
Kamui Blues by butter_peanut. [Completed]  Obkk become Kamui roommates and sort of fall in love along the way and Obito realises that maybe this world is worth saving after all. God I just *bites knuckle* love this so much. Angsty and sweet and with a happy ending and finished??? Hell yes.
Pitch Black by butter_peanut [Completed] Obito gives Kakashi both of his eyes raises baby Naruto while blind. Role reversal as he’s stalked by a ruthless Kakashi who can’t stop caring about Obito.
Pity Speaks Backwards by cyavillain [Completed]. Right before he’s supposed to announce the 4th War, Obito decides he doesn’t want to do this anymore but doesn’t want to go back to Konoha and helps Kakashi on the downlow. Heavy Hurt/Comfort with sexual healing. Mainly just focuses on Obito and Kakashi’s relationship.
Quintessential Reflection by ridingthemagic2arpet [WIP]. Kakashi discovers Kamui and a strange Akatsuki member who inhabits it. He’s convinced that Tobi has stolen Obito’s eye and Kakashi intends to bring down the whole organisation from the inside.
Gem of the Eddy by beetlebee [Probably abandoned]  Obkk isn't the main focus of the plot, which instead involves around the revival of Uzushio, but this fic is still funny, and cute, and heartwarming. Oh, and Kakashi has been turned into a kitsune fox along with the rest of Team 7. The interactions between fox!Kakashi and Obito are so good, I've gone back and just read those chapters. Beetlebee also has a few other obkk fic that are pretty good.
Discography by malamanteau [WIP]  Post-fourth war that focuses on Kakashi and Obito's relationship and Obito accepting the damage he's done and trying to make up for it.
The Komorebi Series by tomorrowsrain [Probably abandoned]  After Obito sets the Kyuubi on Konoha (which he soon regrets) and Kakashi defends him, they're both banished from Konoha and roam as missing-nin. Only have Team 7 fostered on them and become sensei. This is really sweet with serious found family feels going on.
What Once Was Lost by LilanAsmodora [WIP]  Obito kills Kakashi during the fourth war and insta-regrets while also being haunted by Kakashi's not-ghost. He tries to fix things by going back in time and saving his younger self. There's still a lot of set up going on in this fic but it looks like it's heading interesting places and I do enjoy the multiple POVs.
Eleven Months by Amikotsu [Probably abandoned]. Obito breaks out of Madara’s cave, losing his Zetsu arm in the process and while he can’t save Rin, he can return with Kakashi to Konoha. This is just really sweet with young Obito and Kakashi becoming friends and reliant on one another. It’s pre-ObiKaka still where it’s stopped (they’re still young teenagers). Also features really nice original side characters. Really wish this would update.
Crimson Stains by Hellowriters [Probably abandoned]. Kakashi accidently dimension hops in his pajamas to a world where Obito is alive and Kakashi’s alternative self is the leader of Akatsuki. The shinobi world has all but been destroyed and the remnants of those who oppose Akatsuki are forced to survive underground. Nice intrigue going on. Also features Hokage Kushina!
One shots
Convergence by blacknoise. Snippets of Obito and Kakashi's relationship that are really sweet and angsty all at the same time.
The New Recruit by butter_peanut. I’m just out here recommending all of Peanut’s stuff, don’t mind me. Kakashi infiltrates Akatsuki as Sukea and there are shenanigans.
Ghost Story by Hiiraeth. Not explicitly OBKK (tagged platonic in this only), but still good. Obito doesn’t die, to his surprise, and now shares a body with Kakashi.
Let me feel your heartbeat (grow faster, faster) by MomoYoMaki. Little time travel fic in which Kakashi travels back to his younger self and jail breaks Obito from Madara’s cave.
Choose life by Foxfluent. Obito saves Kakashi’s life. Then keeps on saving him. They both fall a little in love. Very sweet.
Smut  ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Do me a favor by colormebleu. [WIP] Obito and Kakashi have been fake dating for years and now start to ‘practice’ sex to ‘make it convincing’ and well...
A Week in Kiri With the Hound by butter_peanut. [Completed] Kakashi doesn’t love himself and Obito teaches him how with sex
You’re just a daydream away by shannyan [Complete] Largely smut but with feelings that make me gooey inside. Obito visits Kakashi in his Tsukuyomi dream and doesn’t understand why despite the fact that Kakashi could have anything he wanted, his dream is about his devotion to Obito. Obito hijacks Dream!Obito’s body and things go from there. I really love this one.

So I was thinking of Kamui Blues!Obito and Kiri!Obito and how they're both possessive over their Kakashis. KB!Obito has no idea that Kakashi gets around and only finds out later. But given that Kiri!Obito's more obsessed and invested and possessive at that point, how would he deal with Kakashi using sex as therapy? Like yeah he stops the self punishing type of sex but he can't be happy about the casual hook ups.
Honestly, before this ask I hadn't considered Kiri!Kakashi's more fun hookups, but it makes sense that these would happen like in Kamui Blues, for stress relief, to make him forget his sadness, etc. And I doubt that Obito would appreciate finding out about these...
And my thoughts led to an 800 word Kiriverse drabble (t-rated, just swears and slightly suggestive). Thank you for the inspiration!
"Excuse me?"
Lying naked on his back on the hotel bed, Kakashi met the eyes of his visitor straddled above him: a nondescript nin, also almost naked but for his socks (cute), his Ishigakure hitai-ate tossed carelessly on the floor beside the bed. He was unfamiliar; a complete stranger.
A stranger, of course, wearing a Henge.
“You’re strangely interested in my private life for someone I’ve just met, Ishi nin-san,” Kakashi baited, smiling slightly.
His visitor grunted. “Maybe that’s a normal response when I’m about to fuck someone and they mention that it might take a while because this very morning they got off with someone multiple times in their own village.”
“If there was a chance we met before,” Kakashi said vaguely, “I would want to clarify why this particular time might take longer than average. I’m considerate of strangers I might have encountered by chance in the past.”
He honestly hadn’t expected to be at this particular place at this particular time on this particular day. The mission was supposed to last three days. But missions tend to be cut short when your team is ambushed halfway to the destination and one of your teammates gains a chest wound so deep that you need to eat through your chakra reserves to speed back to Konoha so that she doesn’t die.
She would live; Sakura had said the blood transfusion would bring her back to full health in days. But it was too damned close a call. Kakashi should have watched his surroundings more on the journey to their destination. He should have been better. He couldn’t stop his student from abandoning Konoha and going to Orochimaru, he hadn’t taught either of his other students enough skills to truly protect themselves in these dangerous times with the Akatsuki creeping through hidden villages, and sometimes he couldn’t even complete a straightforward A-rank mission without recklessly endangering those he was trying to protect…
And he knew himself; knew the brewing feelings of lethargy, self-pity and self-disgust. He knew it was necessary to cut short those feelings before they overtook him. Hence, he came here, to this hotel, and found himself underneath this particular person.
“Do others do this for you too, then?” his visitor asked him, grimacing. “Do you find people in Konoha, sometimes, instead of coming here?”
Kakashi considered the currently-Ishi nin: this person he knew nothing about except that he wanted to help Kakashi at his worst. This person who had been helping Kakashi for almost six years.
“I’m surprised you don’t know,” he told his visitor eventually. “You know when I need you. Don’t you know what I do during the rest of the time?”
“I don’t watch you all the time, you moron. I have things to do.” He rolled his eyes. “Not everything in my life revolves around you. Honestly, if I didn’t know how much you hate yourself, I’d say you were completely full of yourself.”
Ouch. But, not unfair.
Kakashi supposed, after so many years of support, no matter what bizarre form it took, he owed this person an explanation.
“You’re the only person I come to when I’m this way,” he said, and noted the other man’s body relaxing. “The other times, they’re for fun, or take my mind off things when I’m not great but not,” well, “spiralling. They keep me stable.”
Like with Genma this morning. Genma was easy-going, no drama, happy for some added benefits sprinkled on their main serving of friends, little notice required. But not someone he would ever go to when he felt truly worthless.
“What,” the nin said, offended, “are you saying I’m not fun?”
“You’re fun when you make that face,” Kakashi said promptly. Some things, like this man’s pissed-off expression, transferred no matter what Henge he was wearing.
“You don’t — you don’t have to be about to fall apart to come to me, okay?” Seeing Kakashi’s confusion, he groaned, sounding — embarrassed? “If you feel like fucking other people for fun then you can come to me instead for that too.”
Oh.
He could?
“You’re…jealous,” Kakashi said. For some strange reason, pleased by this.
“Yeah.” The man’s gaze turned half-lidded, and he leaned forward on the bed, now inches away from Kakashi’s face. “I want you when you’re half-delirious with leftover teen angst, but I also want you when you’re giggling like a schoolgirl over your stupid book. I want you to talk shit to me and I want you to come to me when the world’s taken a great big shit on you. I’ll take you distraught or delighted. But let me take you, Kakashi.”
“Greater words of romance have never been uttered,” Kakashi said, unable to stop his grin, which his lover’s exasperated fondness made grow even wider.
Okay. Maybe it was time to try going on the steady for once in his life, with this person who never wore the same face twice.

Skinny Love II (Kakashi x Reader)
A/N: second part to skinny love. This is all angst. Very sad. I just watched the pain arc again and had to write something about Kakashi and what happens. Im guessing this could be tagged for spoilers but Naruto is old soooo.
Word count: 5000
“I’m just saying, maybe the second novel is better than the first. You’re free to have your own opinion, that’s just what I think.”
“Well, you’re wrong.”
“Whatever you say,” Y/N laughed, rolling her eyes at the masked man sitting in front of her. She was sipping on a hot bowl of broth after coming home from her most recent mission. It was a nice day out, and she thought it would be a good idea to go out and get something to eat with her favorite shinobi. He was dangerously possessive over his romance novels, and felt immense embarrassment when Y/N decided to pick them up as well.
For a week after finishing the series, she mocked him for liking the gushy, mushy romance that lied on the pages, not to mention the more inappropriate chapters that left nothing to the imagination. Master Jiraiya wasn’t kidding when he said he was doing “research” at the bath house.
“We should go out more often,” he commented, “It’s nice to relax with all this Akatsuki business going on.”
“Definitely. We used to go out like this all the time before you started training those kids,” she hummed. It was true. They had normal outings at that point in time, as the only thing they did was go on missions and then chill at home until the next outing. After Naruto and Sasuke revealed their unique personalities, and got themselves into some sticky situations, the times changed and they spent much more time apart than before. “Not to mention going out with you gives me an excuse to eat whatever I want.”
He nodded in reply, his eyes trailing down to his novel once again which he was skimming over. She didn’t mind him reading at the table. What was he supposed to do? Eat? There was no way he would take off the mask. He was content just giving her company.
His reading gave Y/N an excuse to admire him. Her eyes would lift from the table every time he looked down at the pages, and she would take in all his features. She swore, he was one of the most handsome men she’d ever met, even with the mask. Without a mask, he probably resembled a god. It was nice to just watch as he relaxed into his novel, enjoying himself without any cares in the world.
She liked to talk to him even more. He always knew the right thing to say to make her feel important and wanted, even on her worst of days, he was there to make it better. He was brave and strong, but kind and gentle when need be. His soft words in the late nights they hung out, or his concern when she injured herself, or the happiness the times she made him laugh. Each moment meant so much more to her than he realized.
It was evident to everyone that she had an attachment to him. What kind exactly was the complicated part. While they had been friends for quite a long time, she felt like he was more than just a normal friend or even a best friend. He felt more like a partner than anything, whether it be partner-in-crime or partner-in-love. She loved him with every bone in her body, more than she loved her comrades or her friends, she cared for him like she would a lover.
Maybe it was because she was so shy that she couldn’t tell him how she felt after all this time. Maybe it was fear of rejection. Maybe it was fear of death. She wasn’t sure what held her back from confessing her love to him, spilling all those words she kept under lock and key. She wanted there to be something more, but he’d never let on that he cared for her that way, and surely he would have said something if he did feel that way. It just seemed impossible.
But not to the ordinary person.
People had mentioned in passing to Kakashi that he acted like a lovesick teenager when he was around the woman. She was just so perfect, how could he do anything but adore her. To him, she was one of the only people that truly mattered as more than a fellow shinobi or comrade.
There was no reason to rush it though. If she truly wanted a relationship with him, she would tell him eventually. He wasn’t one to go around throwing out love confessions first. He would wait until she was comfortable and ready. Until then, he would admire her from a distance, through friendly touches and smiles, and dreamy looks when the other wasn’t watching. To him, that was enough.
This lunch outing was the perfect time to waste some hours with her just talking and reading in the others company. The day almost felt too good to be true.
And it was.
First there was the explosion, followed by the screams. Oh, those screams would haunt Y/N’s dreams. Villagers who she’d known growing up screaming in pain. Quickly, she jumped to her feet as did the copy nin.  Their eyes frantically looked through the doorway of the restaurant, but there wasn’t anything on their particular street, just dust from the explosion floating down in thick clouds.
“Someone’s attacked the village. Shit,” he cursed under her breath.
They would have to go out there and fight, they both knew that very well. Fight who, they didn’t know, but Y/N could sense that the same foreign chakra signature was coming at her from multiple directions in the village. That couldn’t be good. It was probably that Akatsuki member that everyone was talking about. Pain. Pain with the rinnegan. How could the leaf compete against something as strong as that dojutsu?
“Everybody out! You know the evacuation route,” Y/N called out to the civilians in the restaurant, as she swallowed her panic. She made a move to usher the people from the store so they could run in the direction of refuge.
This wasn’t a normal battle. These intruders were a completely different breed than the ones they were used to fighting. She could feel the impending doom start to blanket around her body, and she took a deep breath. How could this happen? Was Pain here to take Naruto? Naruto wasn’t even in the village, how could that be? Was it the Akatsuki making a big statement attacking one of the five great villages?
There was just something off. She could feel it. Today was going to be one of the worst days, worse than anything else they’d experienced.
“Y/N, let’s go.”
“Kakashi…” she trailed off, not taking a step forward just yet. Was there something she needed to get off her chest before they rushed into a battle with an outcome unknown? As she met his frantic, panicked eyes with her own, she wondered if she should just confess her feelings right then and there, just so he could know before they put their lives on the line.
Never in her life did she think that her or Kakashi might die. It was never a thought that crossed her mind. She assumed she had all the time in the world to gather the courage to tell him. Now it felt like she had run out of time, and they might never get the chance to see each other again. The chakra signatures around them were just too strong to guarantee they would live against their blows. It felt like this was her final chance.
She started again, “Kakashi, I need to tell you something.”
“What is it?” he asked, wanting to hurry this along. She could see plainly that this wasn’t the right time. He wasn’t in the right mind to hear her words, or comprehend the meaning behind them. Instead, she lowered her head and sighed.
And so she kept that secret tightly bound deep in her heart.
“Nevermind, it’s not important. Just be safe out there. Make it back to me in one piece, okay?”
“You know I can’t promise that,” he replied, and her heart sank in her chest. He was right. If he died, he died. If she died, she died. Nothing could stop fate from doing its dirty work.
“Just promise me. Give me some confidence before we jump into this mess. I-I can’t do this without you promising me you’ll live!” She cried, passion and fear dripping off her words. She had her eyes shut tightly at this point, just trying to keep herself from letting the potential tears gather in her eyes. Her fists clenched by her side as well. “Just say something!”
He nodded, thinking of the right words to say. “I promise I’ll make it back to you, Y/N. Now promise you’ll live. For me,” he demanded, lifting her head to face him. His fingers were strong against her cheek, firm when faced with danger. He wanted her to live, but knowing that Pain killed Jiraiya was enough to make him worry and plan for the worst.
Why was he even asking? He knew that words meant nothing. That most promises were just bound to be empty.
Just this one time, he prayed that she’d keep it.
“I promise.”
“Now let’s go. I’ll take this side, and you go that way. Sounds like explosions came from both directions.”
“Got it.”
There was no room for goodbyes.
After that, they went their separate ways. Y/N had to keep herself from losing control. Everything was going to be okay. She was worrying far too much. Kakashi was strong. Stronger than anyone else she knew really. He couldn’t be taken down by some terrorists. It wasn’t an option.
As long as she could sense his chakra lingering in the distance, she would know.
__________
It was painful, the wound that tore through her thigh. Blood dripped thickly from the cut, but she continued to fight. In this situation, there was nothing else to do, nothing more to fight for than the safety of the village and the people within it. Y/N has never seen a villain this bad, someone so dead set on killing and tormenting that it brought the shinobi of the village to their knees. Yet, here he was, this orange haired creature who popped up at multiple points of their city, each with a different signature move yet a similar chakra pattern.
Y/N knew she couldn’t break down just yet, not after seeing comrade after comrade fall to the ground and lose their lives to the cause. She had to keep going for them. For her friends and her family who died. She was never the most talented at fighting, she was more of a sensory type, stay on the inside and study type of kunoichi. But not today. No one had that luxury today.
Constantly, she could feel the loss of the ninja alongside her, their chakra signatures melting into nothing as blasts continued to ravage their village. The fire within their bodies burned for the last time, disappearing into the ashes.
It wasn’t until she was on her knees, face buried in the dirt and rubble did she really feel the pain this man was so desperate to bestow upon the villagers. Kakashi’s chakra had burned out. It was as if her body gave up after that. She couldn’t move, her bones were broken and she couldn’t afford to stand and fall back down once again, believe it that she tried over and over again. Nothing mattered at this point. How could it? She couldn’t feel her best friend’s chakra signature any longer. He was dead.
Her crying into the dirt was the only thing that signalled another shinobi to come and help her to the infirmary. Someone she barely knew had picked her up by the arm and hoisted it over his shoulder, dragging her by his side to the hospital where the medical nin were no doubt working harder than ever. Her whole body felt like it was caked in bloody crimson mud, dust up her nose and muk between her teeth.
Everything just made her cry harder and harder until she felt she was gasping to breathe.
The harsh lights in the building did nothing but sting her eyes, and the dozens of medical nin rushing around those lying on the floor overwhelmed her.
Sakura stood at the front of all the mess, and her eyes immediately caught onto Y/N and her rescuer. “Y/N-sensei, what happened to you?” she cried, rushing over with her frantic hands hovering over the state of the broken woman as she scanned for the wounds. This only caused more sobbing.
“One second she was fine, the next she was lying in the dirt screaming. I don’t know,” the man said, handing her off to the pink haired girl. “She’s got broken legs, I know that.”
“Thank you for bringing her,” she mumbled as she brought her sensei over to an empty cot, sitting her down on the cloth and beginning the healing process on the worst part of her leg where the bone was exposed. She was shaking so badly it was almost hard to concentrate on her work. She’d never seen Y/N so hopeless and lost. She was strong, she never faltered in the face of danger. It worried Sakura, no doubt.
“Sensei, what happened?”
“It’s Kakashi,” the woman croaked between her harsh breaths. “I-I can’t feel his chakra anymore.” Tears ran down her cheeks furiously, dripping from her chin into her lap. She felt the hopelessness overtake her entire person, the only thing left being complete and utter fear. Her chest heaved, desperate for the next gulp of air into her lungs.
Sakura nearly faltered at the words. Kakashi sensei, dead? How could that be? He was one of the strongest shinobi they knew. He would never fall victim to a villain, would he? From the sounds of Y/N’s heartbroken cries, the medical nin knew that it was over. That another life had been stolen from them.
Kakashi was Y/N’s heart and soul. She loved him for years and planned to love him for many more. Everyone knew that. Kakashi and her may have never acknowledged their feelings before his death, but the skinny love lingered in the air every time they were around each other.
The longing looks when they passed each other in the street. The pain they felt when the other was hurt. The smiles they shared when something good happened in their no-good shinobi lives. They were more than willing to lay their lives on the line for the other, more than just a comrade, more than a friend.
Her passion for Kakashi was the only good thing she had to come home to after missions. His face was the one thing she wanted to see after a bad day. His stupid face as he read his perverted novels, that grin that she positively adored.
All of that was gone, and her heart couldn’t take it. The pain from her injuries sat in the back of her mind, the only thing she could focus on was the loss. Knowing she would never see him again, never hear his voice. If only she could hear him laugh one more time. It was impossible, but she wished to the heavens above for mercy.
Sadly, no one was there to listen.
“Y/N, I’m sorry,” Sakura whispered, not knowing what else to say. What could she say?
“I need him. I can’t do this without him,” she sobbed, her hands shaking by her side, having to clench her fists just to stop the tremors. “Sakura, it’s been 15 years. I...I don’t know a life without him.”
Her heart broke at the words. It was true. She didn’t know life anymore without Kakashi. They’d been friends and comrades for so long that it seemed like that was all she knew. How can you come back from that? Sakura didn’t know. She might be able to heal the woman’s legs, but there was no way she could begin to heal such a broken heart.
“It’s okay. You have plenty of others. You have Gai and Kurenai and-”
“Fuck everyone else. You know they can’t replace him,” she snapped. “No one can replace him.”
Sakura could only nod solemnly. They could lie all day and pretend that Gai would somehow swoop in and make up for that gaping hole in her heart. They could lie and say that Kurenai and her child would fill Y/N with a happiness she felt with Kakashi. Yes, they could certainly lie about it all.
At the end of the day though, her pain would be unrivalled. Losing the one man you’ve loved from the moon and back. It would take an entire army and then some to combat such a struggle.
When Sakura was done healing the woman, she handed her a roll of bandages from her pocket. “I’ve got to tend to others. Wrap this around your calf and then stay here to rest. Please, just rest yourself, sensei. You’ll heal faster that way.” Y/N took the bandages and nodded her head weakly, shaky hands going to wrap her bare and burned calf with the medical bandages.
Her mind still centered around Kakashi. She found herself curling up into a ball on the little bench she was sat at, hugging her knees close to her chest. She just cried. Right now, she couldn’t do anything else.
Just cry.
________
The village was in complete and utter ruin. Y/N lay painfully utop a mountain of rubble, blood oozing from the back of her head and from her already injured leg. Pain’s final attack, one that completely demolished the village...it spared her life.
How could things get any fucking worse?
She felt like the Gods were being especially cruel to her on this day. Especially cruel to every single person in the village, but they kept Y/N alive for their own personal amusement, laughing at her loss and her pain and her  frustration.
Despite Lady Tsunade sending out Katsuyu to protect the villagers, Y/N only seemed to be in worse shape than before. She could feel the slug on her shoulder slowly healing her, but it wasn’t much compared to the pain and the numerous injuries.
Y/N rolled onto her side and groaned, pain shooting up her spine and giving her a brain-shattering headache. When she went to cough on something thick and slimy in her throat, what splattered on the ground was red. Maybe she was just meant to die slow and painfully.
It was better this way, she decided. Nothing could make this day worth it. Nothing. The pain was unbearable.
“Y/N? Is that you?” a feminine voice called from a little while away, and the woman cursed, spitting up more blood as she did so. Sakura climbed through some of the rubble to approach her. Her hands hovered over the woman’s broken body, scanning over all her wounds.
Naruto was down there fighting Pain. Everything was going to be okay as long as they had faith in the Uzumaki. Sakura could focus a bit of her energy on healing her sensei. There was nothing else to do except watch the fight below them, in the center of the wasteland that used to be the Hidden Leaf.
She began the healing process, medical chakra flowing into the woman’s chest wounds, the most critical of all. “Sakura…”
“What is it, Y/N?”
“What’s happening? Is everyone dead?”
“No, everyone is alive. Lady Tsunade sent out Katsuyu to protect everyone. It seems that you were injured before your healing slug could get to you. Thankfully, you have both of us to fix you up,” she muttered. Y/N would have been blind to not notice the way Sakura stared past her deeper into the wreckage as she spoke.
“What do you see?” she asked quietly, as loud as her body could muster.
“It’s Naruto. He’s out there fighting Pain alone,” she said, “He-he’s gotten so much stronger.”
The older woman smiled through her pain, shutting her eyes and letting a soft sigh leave her lips. She hadn’t anticipated Naruto to come saving the day, in fact, it seemed more likely that Pain would kill everyone and leave the village in ruin. Fortunately, Kakashi’s student, the one that people had underestimated for so long, was out there doing what the rest of them couldn’t.
A hero. No matter if he won or not, these are the actions of a hero.
“It’s his destiny: to save this village,” she whispered. “Jiraiya once said so.”
“Let’s hope he was right.”
Together they lay there in the middle of ruin while Naruto battled Pain. They watched as the two men launched themselves away from the village into the woods, the nine tailed fox coming to life far away from where they huddled together. The village was safe from direct harm at this point and the two women let down their guard just a little bit. Down in the middle of the pit some of the students started to gather, including a heavily injured Hinata.
“Help me down there, Sakura. I need to see Gai,” she said, louder than before. After all that time healing, she found herself strong enough to prop up on her elbows and gaze into the destruction.
Once down there, Sakura was quick to start healing Hinata, fearing that the girl had taken too much damage to handle. After all, she charged against Pain, the supposedly leader of this terrorist attack. All of that to help out young Naruto. Y/N felt like she was staring at an image of herself for a moment. A young woman ready to sacrifice it all for the sake of the man she loved.
As her eyes moved around the area, she caught onto the bright green outfit of her long time friend. His eyes caught hers for a moment and quickly, he rushed over to her side. She collapsed onto her knees, wincing at the pain that ran through her body as she did so. She found herself still a bit too weak to stand.
“Y/N, you’re alive,” he gasped. He knelt on the ground beside her and placed a firm hand on her shoulder, steadying her shaky form. “Your injuries-”
“Forget about that, Gai,” she mumbled. “Something terrible has happened.” He couldn’t imagine what she had to say could be any worse than the destruction of the entire village. But he nodded and sat there listening as she spoke her words carefully, painfully with each syllable that left her lips. “Kakashi is dead.”
He felt his heart drop in his chest. As he looked at the woman before him, he knew that she wanted nothing more to cry, yet there were no tears. He assumed that she had already cried her fill earlier and could only mourn at this point. He didn’t ask before wrapping her smaller form up in his arms and tugging her to his chest, burying his nose in her hair. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her face into his shoulder, dry sobs causing her entire form to quiver.
In a moment like this one, he just remained still for her. Sit there and be there through this pain. He felt crushed at the thought of his best friend dead, his eternal rival somewhere out there in all that rubble fatally injured. Gai had lost a brother that day, and Y/N had lost her one and only lover.
He listened as she hopelessly bawled in the comfort of his arms, feeling every bit of her pain sink into his form. They had gone through battles together before, they grew up teammates and friends, how could they not. They had seen death and pain all their lives. This was on another level, incomprehensible to either of them.
Pure misery. Every emotion seemed to burn in her chest. She wanted to curl up and die herself.
________
It felt like hours went by before the lives were returned. She hadn’t thought much of it when the elderly Toad woke up from his eternal slumber. For a moment, she thought it was just a fluke. That he had never really died in the first place, they just thought he did. But then, she watched as people above the trench started to stand from their resting places on the ground and in the rubble.
That is when she realized that somehow, someway, the lives lost during this terrible battle had been reclaimed. It was only a matter of time before she found out if Kakashi had come back to life as well. She sat there, focusing all her energy into sensing nearby chakra, sorting through hundreds of people for the one she wanted.
Gai had left to help out some of the others, so she just sat there waiting. Waiting for Kakashi to come back to her. Just like he promised.
After all this chaos, she couldn’t imagine keeping her love a secret from him any longer. He needed to know. She wouldn’t let this opportunity go wasted. Y/N was given a second chance at finding love in her friend, and she would be damned if she let that go to waste.
After a while, she began to feel his chakra. At first it was very faint, like he was a mile away hidden underneath rocks and everything else you could imagine. But then it got stronger.
He was alive.
When she saw his form climb down into the pit with the rest of them, his mask torn and only the bottom layer of his clothes still intact, she nearly cried once again. For hours before this, she was prepared to never see him alive again, never see that masked face look down upon hers once more. She had mourned the loss of Kakashi Hatake, only for him to be returned.
It was as if the God’s had listened to her prayers.
“Kakashi!” she exclaimed as she struggled to get herself up from the ground. She knelt on one knee, pushing herself up with the other, desperate to walk over to him. Her body failed her of course, and she fell back onto her butt. He noticed her though, her tiny figure in the crowd of hundreds. She was the one person he wanted to find all along.
He fell onto his knees beside her, his hands coming up to grasp her cheeks with his dusty, calloused hands. She relaxed into his rough fingers, sinking into the warmth that he was sharing. His thumbs slid along her lips and chin, trying to rub away the dirt that was caked in some places. She was a mess, messier than he was. He could only imagine the suffering that she went through as well, to have survived all of that without death as a retreat in the middle.
“Y/N, what happened to you?”
“Pain’s final blow caused some pretty bad wounds, but it’s fine. Sakura healed me enough that I’ll make it through,” she told him. Softly, she lifted her hands to place them over top his, her fingers slowly wrapping around his. “Kakashi, you broke your promise to me.”
“I know.”
She found that the words came out faster than she anticipated. Emotions and feelings being laid out in the open for him to see/ “I-I completely lost myself when I couldn’t feel your chakra anymore. I thought I’d lost you. I couldn’t stop crying, and I was angry at you for breaking your promise to me,” she rambled, “I didn’t know what I was gonna do without you.”
“It’s alright. I’m here now. Whatever Naruto has done saved my life,” he soothed, letting their hands fall into her lap. She wouldn’t let go of his hands even if he wanted them to himself. She was afraid. Afraid that if she let him go once more that he would be gone forever. “And I’m sorry I lied to you. I really shouldn’t have died like that. So irresponsible of me.”
There he was cracking a fucking joke about his own death. She wanted to smack him for being so dimwitted in a moment of vulnerability. Just the thought of being with him again made tears spring up in her eyes, and she shut her eyes to keep them from falling. Happy tears or not, she wasn’t going to cry again.
“I need to tell you what I was too afraid to say before. What I wanted to say before we went our separate ways,” she confessed, her breaths coming out harsh and rushed. Once again, she gripped his hands tighter in hers.
After taking a couple breaths, she lifted her eyes to meet his, mouth just agape. He really was all she could ever need. This moment wasn’t perfect, and it wasn’t ideal, but it was just right for what she needed to say. “I’ve always loved you, Kakashi.”
“Y/N-”
“Listen, I know it’s not exactly an appropriate time to be confessing my love to you and all, but I couldn’t risk another day going by without telling you.”
“I love you, too.”
And silence.
There wasn’t anything else to say. The love was mutual, it had been all this time. They just took their time getting around to admitting it, to just hear those words leave the other’s lips for the first time. There were no butterflies in her stomach nor did her heart race in her chest at his confession.
She could only feel comfort in the umbrella they’d created for themselves, the outside world lost to the both of them.
In a flash, she lurched forward to wrap her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face deep into his neck. “Don’t die ever again, Hatake, or I’ll kick your ass,” she laughed, the sound of her laugh reaching his ear. He held her to his chest and sighed.
“No promises.”
Despite what happened that day, he felt comfortable. For the first time, in a very long time, he felt relief wash over him. Everything was going to be okay.
“Kakashi!”

Hiii, you're back! I figured you were taking some time off tumblr :)
(I can’t really figure out how to format on desktop or how to quote things from your reply (and somehow there is a word limit on the desktop version), but I can’t wait to get to the part you mentioned you were thinking about!)
And about the reunion arc, I loved reading your take!! When I first watched it I remember thinking how I thought her love for Sasuke was a bit unrealistic given the circumstances, but I hadn’t looked at it that way yet. After reading what you said and thinking back on her internal struggle before the reunion, I think that what happened does indeed fit with her character and with how the story and its themes were set up. Looking back, I also appreciate her not being able to go through with killing him, as opposed to her killing her feelings and going through with it, and become someone else so to speak..?
I think the reason I felt conflicted was because back then after her assassination attempt failed and he tries to kill her, I’d hoped that she would finally realise that he wasn’t the same person anymore, and for him to no longer hold her back. That she could grow into her own person instead of chasing after this guy that doesn’t want or deserve her (at least from what I’ve seen up till now. Especially after seeing what Sasuke does to Karin after all they’d been through. That especially made it hard to empathise with Sasuke afterwards. And I remember thinking after he tries to kill Sakura, how can she still believe in him? But I guess by then she’s put her hope in Naruto because she believes he still has a chance at changing Sasuke). It also raised the questions, when are people beyond saving? And to what ends would someone realistically go to save a person? Which I keep thinking about when it comes to these three.
But after reading what you said, I think Sakura actually did try to do just that. I suppose it’s hard to stop loving someone.. (It just.. hurts to see her like that, because she really deserves better). And she and Naruto choosing to not give up on Sasuke does indeed fit with what Kakashi taught them at the beginning of the series and the overal theme (and the theme of people loving us better than we deserve that you mentioned, which I think is beautiful).
Do you think Kakashi thinks that Sasuke is too far gone at this point, after this reunion? Since he is ready to take Sasuke down to save the kids the pain of having to do that.
(And sidenote, I know you’ve mostly stayed away from the fandom, but I think Sakura gets wayy too much hate from the fandom :/ I mean agree that Kishimoto didn’t develop his female characters well back in part 1 (also, if I remember correctly Kakashi said that Sakura had an affinity for genjutsu waaaay back when they were learning to climb trees? But it was it was never mentioned again T_T. We were robbed😂🥲), but like you’ve mentioned somewhere before, I loove what they did with her in Shippuden (especially that first arc!!) :) )
(Ok I found that if I type it out on my laptop and then send it to my phone I can quote things🤔 How do you format your posts?😊)
I speak multiple languages, and while I love having that background, it does mean that I experience a special kind of angst when I’m working with a language I don’t have a working knowledge of and can’t just look up the source word being used in a given situation and understand the specific connotation/association behind it.  I prefer to do close readings of texts when I’m analyzing media, but that’s not remotely accurate when working with multiple translations that don’t always agree (eg, the dub, the sub, the manga), so I’ve had to just try to relax and let that frustration go. X)
Yeah! I speak multiple languages too, and I love to be able to look at the original text and look for subtleties and connotations that I might have otherwise missed (which is also one of the reasons I want to learn Japanese). Are you doing a literature related degree by any chance? :) And could I ask which languages you speak?
Of course!  My Naruto obsession is not fading anytime soon; you are welcome to come back and chat about it anytime! :D
I have so many thoughts on this series, and I’m still just so excited that there is a place to discuss it ^^! Thanks! (And I can’t wait until I’m done with my exams for this semester😞 Wanted to write back before I start cramming again.)
Is there an option to reply to posts by the way?
Hello again! :)  Yes, you’re right, I was offline for a couple weeks - back now, though!
Do you think Kakashi thinks that Sasuke is too far gone at this point, after this reunion? Since he is ready to take Sasuke down to save the kids the pain of having to do that.
I don’t think Kakashi has given up on Sasuke.  I do think Kakashi is more realistic about the situation than the kids have ever been - he’s always known that there’s a possibility that things won’t turn out okay in the end, and there’s a scene at the end of 179 where he specifically says to himself, “Sasuke...I guess it’s going to be my job to stop you,” which isn’t to indicate that fighting Sasuke is something he wants to do, but that he’s aware that things may eventually escalate to a point where he needs to act to protect others.  He’s been preparing himself for that possibility for much longer than either Naruto or Sakura has - it’s only immediately prior to this confrontation that Sakura admits to herself that Sasuke has changed, and Naruto doesn’t start to fully understand and accept it until after the confrontation in S10 happens.  But Kakashi has lived through too much to ignore the reality of the situation - he knows that sometimes you can try your hardest and still lose, and he knows that it’s possible that they’ll try their hardest to help Sasuke and fail.  (I wrote a little bit more about my thoughts on this here, if it helps explain better what I’m thinking - no spoilers to worry about; it was back when I was still pretty early on in the show.)
I don’t think Kakashi believes Sasuke is a lost cause, though.  Not during 214, not ever.  Everything Kakashi does during 214 is defensive, and he’s still trying to reach out to Sasuke even after Sasuke uses the Susanoo to try and incinerate him.  Kakashi is just trapped in an impossible situation at the end of their confrontation - he steels himself to potentially take Sasuke down because the alternatives are A) letting Sasuke murder other people (Sakura, Karin), or B) letting one of the kids try to kill Sasuke themselves (which, if they succeeded, would sentence them to the kind of agony Kakashi himself has been living with for years).  Neither of those options are things he can allow in good conscience, so he prepares to sacrifice his own soul instead, and probably his life - because I really think if Kakashi had had to kill one of his own kids it would have been the end for him.
But you can tell in the aftermath that neither he nor Naruto nor Sakura have fully given up on Sasuke yet - the little conversation they have up on the bridge where they’re like “Sasuke is Sasuke” was, for me, such a hopeful moment, in the sense that they’re beaten down and they’re sad and they failed to retrieve their friend yet again, but they’re still acknowledging that whatever Sasuke is going through right now, somewhere inside he’s still the person they know.  He’s still the first person who figured out the Bell Test’s true meaning, the first one who passed the survival exam, the first one who was willing to die for both Naruto and Sakura on separate occasions - that person is still in there.  Sasuke is Sasuke, and his friends haven’t given up on him yet.
Some of my feelings on this are influenced by things that happen beyond the point where you’re at now, so I won’t say anything about that stuff, but in general, while I think Kakashi has always been able to see the reality of the situation in a way that the kids aren’t initially able to do, I don’t think that Kakashi ever writes Sasuke off as a lost cause.
And sidenote, I know you’ve mostly stayed away from the fandom, but I think Sakura gets wayy too much hate from the fandom
Aha, yeah...obviously people are entitled to dislike whatever characters they want for whatever reasons, but I mostly mind my own business on my own blog because I don’t want to deal with it. X)  I love her and that’s that.
Are you doing a literature related degree by any chance? :) And could I ask which languages you speak?
I’m actually not in school anymore, but I did a literature-related degree back when I was a student, yes!  I got my undergrad degree in English :)  And my other two languages are Spanish and Arabic.  (My listening/reading skills are better than my speaking skills nowadays, particularly with Arabic...I used to be in a field that required me to use it constantly, but it’s been a number of years since then, so I’ve lost a lot of my proficiency).
Is there an option to reply to posts by the way?
Oh - on tumblr there’s an option you can select that makes it so that only blogs who’ve been following you for several weeks can reply to your posts, and I have that setting turned on.  After I started watching Naruto I unfortunately had to turn it on to prevent strangers from interacting with my posts in ways that weren’t consistent with the kind of positive and enjoyable fandom experience I wanted to have.  So you won’t be able to use the “reply” function unless you’ve been following me for a few weeks (which I assume you’re not, because of spoilers, heh - I was the same way while I was watching; I didn’t follow @dreamersscape for a long time even though we talked a lot, because she had finished the show before me).  You’re welcome to keep sending messages for now, though, or tag me if there’s something you’d like me to see! :)

Prologue - Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Epilogue
You knew something wasn’t quite right as you started to regain consciousness. The summer breeze was gone now, as was the smell of flowers, but that wasn’t it. It was… weight. Something heavy was on top of you.
Wait, what?
You lurched forward suddenly, sending the weight sprawling off you and on to the floor with a yelp.
“Hey! What was that for?!” the weight yelled from somewhere on the floor.
Oh, this was your next 24-hour cycle.
“You will have 24 hours with the seven people you could love the most and who could love you in return. Learn so that you may choose wisely.”
Right, thanks, a bit late on the reminder this time because you had just tossed this day’s omega directly onto the floor. That was not what a good mate did.
More importantly though, you knew that voice.
A fluffy head of blond, spiky hair popped up over the side of the bed, the man it was attached to rubbing the back of his head and directing a grumpy look at you.
“Naruto?” you asked, delighted. You had been wondering if you’d be mated to any of your teammates during this thing, and here you were! It was also a relief to be paired with someone you knew a little better; you’d hopefully have more to say and less of a chance of asking the wrong question.
“Yeah?” he asked, climbing off the floor. “You totally need to say sorry for throwing me off the-oh fuck! Is that the time?!”
Suddenly, all traces of sleepiness and grumpiness fled Naruto immediately and he launched himself up on his feet and lurched to a nearby wardrobe before rifling through it.
“I am so late! Shikamaru’s gonna be pissed!” he whined, frantically grabbing clothes and trying to change and pack a bag at the same time.
You just watched him, scrambling to get your bearings. Naruto looked so different to the boy you’d met when you were still single digit aged children. His shoulders had broadened considerably, his voice was deeper and the way he held himself was different too.
You didn’t have to speculate over how you might have ended up with Naruto because you already knew. You’d been friends and teammates for years and you’d bonded over many shared experiences and traumas. You were incredibly close to Naruto, even after the long period away he’d spent with Jiraiya.
As you watched Naruto trip trying to pull up his trousers and get to the bathroom to brush his teeth at the same time, you thought about those early genin days. The sleepovers with Sakura, pranking mean shopkeepers with Naruto, shouting at Kakashi for being late… It was a little painful to think about those simpler days. Everything had changed so much.
After furiously brushing his teeth, Naruto emerged from the bathroom, little patches of toothpaste still lingering at the corner of his mouth.
“Ugh, I still can’t believe he didn’t wake either of us,” Naruto grumbled, picking up his bag and throwing it over his shoulder.
What? That sentence didn’t make any sense to you. Was someone supposed to have come round and… picked Naruto up for work or something? You got out of bed just as Naruto ran out of the room. You could hear his footsteps pounding down the stairs and you decided to follow him, leaping out of bed yourself.
You didn’t have time to explore the rooms upstairs, but if Naruto was going to work, then you’d have time to do so later. So many thoughts were running through your head as you went down the stairs that you couldn’t pinpoint one to focus on.
One thought became dominant when you saw the hokage robes and hat hanging by the front door. Was Naruto the hokage? Had he really done it? You couldn’t stop the grin from forming on your face. He was so impossibly amazing. You felt an overwhelming urge to hug him, but he had disappeared further into the house. You followed where you thought he’d gone, almost skipping as you did. You couldn’t believe that not only was Naruto hokage, but you were mated to him!! Naruto! Who was the hokage!
As you approached what looked like a living dining room, you could hear Naruto’s voice once again, although it was too low for you to make out any words. Who was he talking to?
You peered around the corner, conscious that you were in your pyjamas still, and saw Naruto crouched in front of the sofa, talking to someone. Only the back of their head was visible, but your heart lurched as you figured out who the man must be.
You watched as Naruto pulled a blanket over the other man’s shoulder, and even though he slapped at Naruto’s hands, he didn’t remove the blanket once it was there.
“-in pre heat, not dying, moron,” the man replied, just loud enough for you to catch the end of the sentence.
It was him. You were sure of it. The black hair, his voice. You watched as Naruto pecked him on the lips. Oh.
You ducked back into the corridor, feeling overwhelmed. It was there that you noticed all the pictures lining the walls.
The biggest one was from a wedding ceremony, with you, Sasuke and Naruto standing in the middle, a just visible Sakura and Kakashi stood on the edges. The second picture to capture your attention was one of you and Naruto each kissing one cheek of a very grumpy looking Sasuke. Then there was one from a dinner party, presumably after the wedding because all the clothes were the same. This time you spotted Iruka, Sai and Shikamaru there too.
There were pictures like that everywhere, on every surface and spare bit of wall space.
You, Naruto and Sasuke had… you’d…
Naruto had brought him back, you knew it must have been him, he’d then become hokage and the three of you had clearly got together.
It was… unbelievable, but you could see it. The more you thought about it, the more you understood.
Naruto walked out of the living room and into the corridor where you were standing, and you didn’t know what to do other than tear up and throw yourself at him for a hug.
“Woah, hey,” he said gently, wrapping his arms around you. It only made more tears appear to have him treat you so softly. “What’s going on? You okay?”
You just sniffed and squeezed him.
“Don’t cry,” he said, squeezing you back. “Because then I’ll cry, and I won’t even know why we’re crying.”
You laughed wetly and pulled back, rubbing at your eyes.
“Sorry, sorry,” you cleared your throat and wiped the last of the tears from your cheeks. “I don’t know what happened there, got overwhelmed I guess.”
Naruto nodded but looked towards the door anxiously.
“I really have to go, but I’m only going for the morning, I’ll be back this afternoon as planned, I promise!” he said, looking guilty over leaving you and Sasuke. “His heat isn’t supposed to hit until tomorrow, so everything will be fine, please don’t cry.”
Sasuke’s heat? Yes, you had heard him talk about pre heat earlier, that made sense. He must have thought you were crying because you were worried or overwhelmed about that. Naruto seemed to be hovering by the door, waiting to hear your response before leaving.
“Okay,” you said, pulling yourself together. “I’ll see you in a few hours, yeah?”
Naruto grinned.
“Believe it!”
And with that, he was out the front door like a flash, leaving you and Sasuke home alone. How many times had you imagined a scenario like this? Seeing Sasuke again in Konoha? Too many.
You walked towards the living room, towards Sasuke, like you were possessed. You had to go to him, to see him for yourself and know that he was okay.
You tentatively stepped back into the living room and around the couch until you could see Sasuke’s face. All the air felt like it was punched out of you. It was really, truly him.
His hair was differently styled, longer than you remembered, but just as inky black. The blanket that Naruto had draped over him was still there, covering what looked like lounge clothes, his cheeks were flushed and his eyes slightly hazy. Pre heat, your mind supplied, he was in pre heat.
It was weird to see him older, but weirder to see him in such a vulnerable state. He always tried so hard to avoid situations where someone might see him not on top form. But here he was.
“Good morning,” you whispered, still staring at him.
“Good morning,” came a quiet reply. And that was enough to overwhelm your common sense completely.
You surged forward and the last thing you saw before you pressed your lips against his was the slight widening of his eyes. You were desperate to touch him, your hands flitting from his face to his neck to his chest. You needed to feel him to know it was real. His hands were hovering in shock, but slowly they came to rest on your shoulders and his kissing back got more enthusiastic.
You kissed, and you kissed, and you kissed until your lips were warm and starting to swell. You were soothing yourself with his presence and he appeared happy to let you. The little noises escaping from him added so much to the kiss. When you bit his bottom lip, he gasped. When you sucked on his tongue, he moaned. When you put pressure on his neck with your hands, he basically melted into your grasp.
Your mind was going haywire. He was safe. He was home. He was in heat. And he was yours.
You eventually pulled away to breathe, but something was burning at the back of your throat as you panted. You couldn’t place the cause of it for a moment, but then it hit you like a kunai handle to the head.
It was the scent of slick.
Sasuke appeared to realise it at the same time you did. You saw him panic and start to close off and pull away, but you couldn’t let him pull away, not when the last time he’d done that he’d ended up with Orochimaru. So, you pressed forward again.
You reconnected your lips, but this time with enough force to knock him backwards. Once he was laying down on the couch, you climbed over him and hovered above his hips as you kissed.
Sasuke whined and bared his neck for you now that you were on top. It was pretty normal behaviour for an omega in pre heat being kissed by their mate, but it lit a fire under you anyway.
Had that night with Haku removed your awkwardness around sex completely? Because you didn’t feel anything but desire right now.
No, you just wanted to prove to yourself that Sasuke was real, and the pheromones he was pumping out were messing with your head, that sounded more accurate.
You had flashes of memories from last night invade your mind too, but you tried to push them away, fearing it to be disrespectful to think of another omega at a time like this.
You focused instead on kissing and biting your way down his neck. He was yours. Yours and Naruto’s too. Orochimaru couldn’t have him, you wouldn’t let it happen, not again, never again.
“Stop!” Sasuke said suddenly, voice weak and strangled. “Stop, y-you’ll trigger it early, I don’t want that.”
He pushed at your chest, and you climbed off him as requested. It was like a spell had broken. You could think clearly now, and you had no idea what that reaction had just been. You felt embarrassed that you had lost yourself like that.
You both panted for a while to catch your breath, you sitting on the floor by the couch while Sasuke remained laying on it.
Eventually, Sasuke started to squirm in discomfort. Probably from all the slick leaking into his underwear, which was something you tried very hard to avoid imagining and still failed. He got up, mumbling something you couldn’t make out before scurrying up the stairs, embarrassed.
You let out your own relieved breath as he left. That had been intense.
You sat for a few minutes, just sorting out your emotions towards the situation before you realised that you had an omega in pre heat that you had to look after. You didn’t know how to do that.
Let’s think, what were pre heat symptoms? You grabbed a pad of paper from the coffee table and wrote down a list of everything you could remember from your academy classes.
Pre heat symptoms
·         Large appetite
·         Sleeps more
·         Clingy w/ loved ones, esp. mates
·         Emotional fluctuation
·         Desire to nest and maybe clean/organise nest?
·         ???
You stared at the list, irritated that you had forgot most of the lessons on dynamics from the academy. Not that those lesson weren’t shit anyway.
Regardless, the list was the only thing you had to go on, so you should probably cook a bunch of food for when Sasuke eventually came down, and maybe after eating he’d want a nap? You could bundle him up on the sofa maybe.
Yeah, that sounded like a good plan! Or at least the best plan you had. And hopefully Naruto would be home after that. He would know what to do.
So, you stood up and found the kitchen and then started to cook anything and everything you could find in the kitchen to provide for your mate during his pre heat. You wanted to make sure that you were taking care of him like a mate should; Sasuke shouldn’t carry the burden for your ill preparedness, after all.
About twenty minutes later, Sasuke came back down in different clothes, his hair damp from the shower. You were still making up a tray full of food for him, thankfully future you had obviously stocked the kitchen in advance. You also felt confident that you had a good grasp on the kinds of food he liked, which took some of the stress away.
While you finished up the cooking, Sasuke fluttered back and forth between sitting in the living room with his blanket from earlier and coming into the kitchen to watch you cook in silence. His pre heat was likely making him feel lonely, but the kitchen didn’t provide as much comfort as the soft furnishings on the couch.
By the time you were done, you had filled the tray with all sorts of foods and snacks. Admittedly, you probably went overboard, but you’d never cooked for an omega in pre heat and you weren’t sure how hungry they got and you’d rather have too much than too little.
You carried the heaving tray into the living room where Sasuke seemed the most comfortable and slid it onto the coffee table. Sasuke’s stomach growled as you did so, and your inner alpha purred happily at the thought that you had predicted and met your omega’s needs.
Damn, this ‘being around an omega in heat’ thing was driving your instincts wild. You didn’t realise it would be so strong.
Sasuke didn’t say thank you, but he did press himself up against your side once you sat down, which was basically the same thing in Uchiha speak. He ate slowly and methodically, which made you worry that you had indeed made too much food, but despite his slow speed, he didn’t stop after one plate, or two plates, or three plates. In fact, he didn’t stop until the entire tray was empty.
Iruka sensei clearly hadn’t been lying about the hunger part of pre heat. You knew it was because of his need to store calories that would be burnt off during his heat and not so easily replaced when his appetite dropped. You had heard of omegas who barely ate anything during their heats, so it was the safest strategy to stock up beforehand.
When he swallowed his last mouthful, Sasuke sighed contentedly and put more weight against your side.
“How are you feeling?” you asked, pressing a hand to his forehead. He was definitely warmer than normal.
“I’m fine,” Sasuke replied, his words almost interrupted by a yawn. That’s right, he should be getting sleepy now. Along with conserving calories, omegas in pre heat also had to conserve energy in case their heat was intense enough to keep them awake for 2-3 days.
You pushed all the empty plates and cutlery onto the coffee table and made sure the couch was clear of all debris.
“Hey, why don’t you take a nap?” you said gently. The Sasuke you remembered probably wouldn’t take too kindly to such a suggestion, but this Sasuke seemed to begrudgingly agree because he pulled his blanket back around his shoulders and made himself comfy on your shoulder.
It was so cute that he immediately used you as a pillow.
You leant back to allow him a better angle and his breathing dropped almost immediately. He must have been tired.
As Sasuke dozed, pressed up against your side, you finally had time to think.
The first thoughts in your head were about Sasuke. You still couldn’t believe that Naruto had fulfilled his promise of bringing Sasuke home to Konoha and that he’d seemingly escaped any major punishment for his actions while he was a missing nin. It filled you with excitement for the day that your Sasuke would return home, whether that was in a romantic or platonic context, you weren’t sure yet.
It felt natural to go from thinking about that to thinking about the relationship you had with both Naruto and Sasuke in this version of your future. You wouldn’t have really considered such a thing, but that didn’t mean you didn’t fully understand how you could be happy with them. A lot of the things you had thought about Naruto earlier, also applied to Sasuke. All three of you had gone through so much together and you’d always be closer than close. And in this world, that closeness was apparently really close.
Like, really close, you thought as Sasuke breathed on your neck.
Also, you couldn’t lie, it would be worth picking this future just to see the look on everyone’s face, especially Kakashi sensei’s, when you mated both the team omegas.
Would Naruto and Sasuke get together if you picked someone else? Should you play matchmaker? That might be fun, even if you went with a different version of your future.
Wait! Your stomach dropped as you realised something pretty significant. The fortune teller’s repeated message had said you would be spending these 24-hour cycles with the seven people that you could love the most. You had assumed that meant seven cycles, of which this was six, but if you had two mates this time, then that meant you’d experienced all seven…
This was your last cycle.
You felt strange thinking about that. It felt like you’d only just started, it had gone so quickly, like a fever dream. Not that you were fully convinced that this wasn’t a fever dream still. Anxiety about making your decision started to grow in your chest, but you pushed it away as best as you could. You needed to enjoy this cycle, give Naruto and Sasuke their fair shot, and not worry about tomorrow. You could make your decision once this ended, but while it was happening, you would forget about it.
With those thoughts still floating around your mind, you drifted to sleep, the scent of a contended omega knocking you out faster than you expected.
It was the sound of giggling that woke you up in the end. You slowly opened your eyes part way, keeping them somewhat protected from the sudden influx of light, and you were greeted by Naruto in his full hokage gear, a camera clutched in his hands.
It was so weird to see him wearing the hat like that.
You tried to sit up only to realise something was pinning you down. You opened your eyes properly and your vision was partially obscured by a head of black hair that was purring away buried in your neck.
Sasuke had certainly moved quite a bit in his sleep, because you were now completely pinned under him. Now wonder you were feeling so warm; it was a mixture of the body heat from Sasuke and the embarrassment that Naruto had obviously just taken a picture of you both like this.
Naruto looked so giddy though, which soothed your embarrassment somewhat.
“Wanna play video games while he sleeps?” Naruto said quietly but with a huge grin.
“Hell yeah, I do,” you replied in the same tone. “But you’re going to have to help me out of here first.”
Naruto snorted, putting down the bags in his hands on the coffee table, just about managing to fit them around the breakfast debris, and coming over to extract you from Sasuke’s unrelenting grip.
It took about five minutes, but you were eventually freed, and Sasuke was left to doze by himself, now hugging a pillow that you had scented instead. Naruto had run to get changed while you tidied up the plates and cutlery and also had a nosey in the bags. Naruto had brought more food back with him, something that you were incredibly happy to see; you had a lot of food in, but not enough if Sasuke was going to eat like a one-man army for every meal.
When Naruto returned, you sat on floor cushions together in front of the TV. You were incredibly excited to see some future video games. Hell, even games that were from your time would be great because it wasn’t like you’d had time to play any recently.
Naruto picked out some sort of fighting game, which didn’t surprise you for even one moment, and you decided to chat with him while he set it up.
“How was work, hokage sama?” you asked, teasing him by knocking him on the knee with your foot. “Did you sign lots of important things?”
“Ugh, I don’t normally wish for that, but paperwork would have been a thousand times better than having to meet with the civilian council,” he grimaced. “I’m so glad Shikamaru knew stuff about the business fairs in Wind Country, because the council is wanting to start doing something similar here and I didn’t even know what they were.”
You snorted. Naruto was incredibly overpowered, but you weren’t sure he’d ever understand business or economics. You were pretty good thankfully, so you would be a gracious friend and offer to help on occasion.
Wait, Shikamaru? Was Naruto the hokage that had been partly responsible for overworking Shikamaru? Or was it the hokage before him? You did seem to be a bit older in this cycle than Shikamaru’s but still…
This man better hope he wasn’t the cause of Shikamaru’s breakdown, because your plans for when you returned would change from ‘help Shikamaru’s friends support him in making reasonable boundaries’ to ‘beat up your friend for causing problems’.
“That sucks,” you said instead of voicing your threat. “At least you’re home now, the council can’t get you here.”
Naruto laughed and passed you a controller.
“I wouldn’t put it past them to try breaking down the door. Anyway, are you ready to get your ass beat?”
You scoffed at his smack talk.
“You wish, fishcake boy, I’m going to destroy you!”
Naruto squawked in protest.
“You are not!”
“Are too!”
“In your dreams!”
You ended up winning the first round by the skin of your teeth. Button mashing was the superior tactic after all. Naruto was way too focused on combos and flashy moves.
“Whatever,” Naruto grumbled as you gloated in his face. “I would totally win in a real fight, that’s what counts.”
You knew that he was right. He was the hokage and you were mentally about a decade in the past, so there was no way you could hope to fight Naruto and win.
But you weren’t going to let that fact stop your banter.
“No, I would totally win,” you argued. “All I’d have to do is like, put a poisoned bowl of ramen in front of you and it’d be game over. Playing dirty with ramen would be my winning strategy.”
“Playing dirty with ramen, huh?” Naruto said, wiggling his eyebrows. “There’s an idea for when it’s time for my heat.”
“Gross!” you protested, pushing him on his shoulders. “You’re disgusting, Naruto.”
“Yeah? Are you saying you don’t want to lick ramen broth off my stomach?”
“Shut up,” you said, trying your best not to imagine it. “You disgust me.”
“Does this disgust you?” he said, before pouncing on you, sending you both to the floor. He covered your face in kisses while you squealed at him to stop. You decided to tickle him in revenge and soon you were both laughing and shrieking and out of breath.
Naruto was hovering over you, chest heaving, signature grin looking at home on his face, when he looked at something over his head.
“Oops,” he said, getting off you. “We didn’t mean to wake you, Sasuke, sorry.”
Oh, you had forgotten that Sasuke was there. You sat up, Naruto climbing off you, and turned to see Sasuke with a tremendously bad bedhead looking at you in return.
It took everything in you not to laugh at his hair, but something told you that if even Naruto had resisted from teasing him, you should avoid it too.
“Whatever,” he mumbled, getting up with his blanket still tucked around him. He walked over to you and Naruto and slotted himself in between you without acknowledging either of you. You and Naruto wordlessly shuffled to make room for him.
“Here,” Naruto said passing him one of the bags from the coffee table. “You should eat.”
Sasuke accepted the bag and immediately started digging through the snacks it contained. He ended up picking out a pack of onigiri to munch on while Naruto started up the next round of your game.
This was so domestic and lovely. You had never imagined there would be a future where you and Naruto and Sasuke would be here together like this, snuggled up on the floor, playing video games and eating onigiri.
At one point, Naruto attempted to snatch an onigiri from Sasuke, but he was promptly growled away.
“Alright, alright, I’ll grab something else,” he said easily, pressing a kiss to Sasuke’s head, something which only make him growl more. “Want something?”
He held the bag open for you and you spotted a few of your favourite sprinkled in. You gratefully grabbed one; you hadn’t had much of the food earlier because Sasuke had eaten most of it.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in much the same way, you and Naruto making your way through several video games, Sasuke, who slowly became more and more animated, giving his cruel and brutal commentary about how much you both sucked at them.
And if the bickering made you tear up a few times, well, no one appeared to notice.
By the time the evening had rolled around, you had all decided to relocate to the nest upstairs. Sasuke had started getting antsy and you were grateful that Naruto was there to understand that that behaviour meant he needed to go to his nest, because you were too ill informed on pre heats to pick that up and Sasuke was too stubborn to admit when he needed something.
This was the second nest you were invading during this weird time travel themed week, even though you technically had permission. It felt like wandering onto sacred land with the permission of the senile groundskeeper who had mistaken you for the deity the land was dedicated to. You had permission, but technically under false pretences.
At least Naruto and Sasuke were both your friends and teammates. That made it a little less weird than entering Kiba’s nest had been.
The nesting room was split in half, one side for Naruto’s nest and the other side, Sasuke’s. You could immediately tell which half was which.
Sasuke’s was filled with mainly dark colours, woollen blankets and a cute little shelf that had a bunch of things for a heat stacked on there. Naruto’s side was bright, chaotic, and filled with stuffed toys and cushions more than blankets. He also had a mini fridge on his side that he’d covered with stickers.
It was a weird visual.
Regardless, you all found your spot, favouring Sasuke’s side of the nest mostly, seeing as he was the one in pre heat.
“This feels like a sleep over,” you said, reclining backwards. “It’s like we’re about to start talking about crushes or something.”
Naruto laughed and picked up a pillow from his own side to throw at you.
“Or should we have a pillow fight?” he teased. “I mean, it’s not like any of our crushes will be that interesting, it’ll just be people already in the room.”
“It’s not a sleepover,” Sasuke grumbled, picking up the stray pillow and throwing it back to Naruto’s side of the nest. “And we’re not having a pillow fight.”
“Yeah, but I mean,” you continued, ignoring Sasuke for a moment. “We all must have had crushes before we got together, right? Like what about Haku?”
“Oh, Haku,” Naruto sighed dreamily. “I saw him the other day, he’s still super pretty.”
“He is,” you agreed, thinking of a very different encounter than Naruto likely was.
There was silence for a moment before both you and Naruto turned to Sasuke expectantly. Sasuke crossed his arms and didn’t say anything, but as the silence carried on, he turned his head away and spoke.
“Haku’s… nice looking,” he said reluctantly.
“Come off it, you totally had a crush on him during that mission! We all did!” Naruto said, indignantly. “You can’t fool us.”
“I did not,” Sasuke said. “He tried to kill us.”
“So?” Naruto replied, sounding unsure what that would have to do with finding someone attractive.
“You’re an idiot,” was the only thing Sasuke said, before he turned over on his side, facing one of the walls.
“Noooo, don’t ignore me,” Naruto whined, leaning over and poking Sasuke on the cheek. “You’re supposed to love me.”
“Get off of me,” he growled, shoving backwards. His words had no real animosity in them though, you were fluent enough in Uchiha to recognise that. “Dobe.”
Now, you’d seen Naruto and Sasuke fight many, many times before, far too many times in fact and the more recent times hurt your heart to think about, but what was ensuing in front of you right now was nothing like that… They were slapping at each other’s hands like children.
“This is like watching a puppy and a kitten playfight,” you muttered to yourself, never taking your eyes off the weirdly competitive hand slapping fight. You wished they would stop though, what was the best way to do that? Shock value perhaps?
“Well, my first crush was Iruka sensei.”
Both of them froze, blinking at you in sync, before-
“What!” Naruto yelled, before choking on his own spit. “What- but- how- Iruka sensei? Seriously? Why?”
Sasuke looked quietly horrified and was obviously thinking the same thing. You had succeeded in distracting them, but at what cost?
“Well, I guess, um,” you felt bashful under their incredulous eyes. “I don’t know he was so nice and reliable and a really good teacher and he has pretty eyes and an even prettier smile so-“
You kept babbling, not helping your case at all. Naruto looked like he was questioning everything in the universe while Sasuke looked a little green around the gills.
“He was our teacher,” Sasuke emphasised. “Our teacher.”
“I know that!” you said defensively. “I’m not saying I tried anything! It’s totally normal for kids to get crushes on their teachers, y’know, you don’t have to get weird about it.”
“Next you’ll be telling us you had a crush on Kakashi sensei,” Naruto said with a grimace.
“Ew,” was your only reply.
“Ew,” Sasuke added.
“Ew,” Naruto finished.
You all looked at each other for a moment and then burst out laughing.
You definitely needed to do more of this when you went back to your time, when Sasuke returned, and Naruto wasn’t so busy. You would invite Sakura too, Sai as well. You wanted this in your life so badly. Friends and hang outs and sleepovers and just, everything.
But you needed to be in the village more often for that to happen. You decided then and there, as you watched Naruto and Sasuke laugh until they cried at the thought of someone having a crush on Kakashi sensei, that you would figure out a way to stay in the village more.
You didn’t want to be miserable and alone forever.
You had all bantered and chatted for a while. It was fun to be with your friends again and interesting to hear more details about the years you hadn’t lived.
Apparently, Naruto had had a rather persistent admirer/stalker a few years ago that Sasuke took great pleasure in mocking, Kakashi had been the hokage before Naruto (and wasn’t that a wild thought) and apparently Sai had done a whole myriad of things that meant Sasuke scoffed every time someone said his name.
It was a top tier gossip session.
A top tier gossip session that had somehow ended with Sasuke’s cock in Naruto’s mouth.
“Not so fast,” Sasuke gasped, fisting a hand into Naruto’s hair. “Watch the teeth.”
Naruto rolled his eyes but obliged, slowing right down, likely much more than Sasuke had wanted because he bucked his hips in protest.
You were kneeling by Sasuke’s head feeling like a strange, perverted voyeur. You should definitely be joining in somehow, but all the confidence you had from earlier was nowhere to be seen. It was intimidating… maybe you should just start with something easier and more familiar.
Like kissing. Kissing worked.
You reangled yourself and bent down over Sasuke’s head, cupping his face with your hands. He seemed eager, tilting his head up, ready to receive your kiss. You kissed him slowly, forcing as much sensuality as you could into it. Sasuke was much sloppier than earlier, likely due to the activities of Naruto down below, but it didn’t matter to you. Being able to swallow all the little noises he made with your lips was incredibly hot and you were happy to do it.
Sasuke’s movements became jerkier and jerkier as time moved on. He was moaning more, gasping more, seemingly forgetting that he was in the middle of a kiss more. You snuck one hand down to his bare chest, not to focus on increasing his pleasure, but just to rub soothing circles on his chest. If pre heat was anything like pre rut, he would enjoy some soothing touches mixed in with the sexy ones.
“I’m going to-“ Sasuke seized and you pulled back to watch. His face contorted, little flashes of red visible behind his eyelids, and his toes curled. Naruto didn’t try to pull away, in fact, he seemed to push Sasuke’s cock further down his throat, sealing his lips around the base.
It was all over in a few seconds, but as you watched Sasuke collapse, panting, like he’d just had his soul sucked out and Naruto swallow with a cheeky grin and a wipe of his lips, it felt like eternity.
“Are you up next?” Naruto asked with a wolfish grin. “I think Sasuke needs a break.”
Just the insinuation that he needed a break had Sasuke opening his eyes and struggling to sit up.
“I shouldn’t do anymore, or my heat will trigger,” he said, like he was explaining why he couldn’t join without an insult to his stamina. “We shouldn’t have done that anyway.”
“That’s fine, Sasuke, don’t push yourself,” you said, wanting to be a supportive mate through the cloud of arousal.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Naruto concurred. “You can just watch.”
By the end, you could add ‘Naruto has a magical mouth’ to the list of things you’d learnt on this cycle.
This was your final night like this, in the future. Your heart ached as you imagined returning to the loneliness that you remembered.
Stop, you reprimanded yourself, this whole thing was about knowing how to fix the loneliness, not returning to wallow in it. You would be fine. You could make a game plan during your first few days, and you would build a life you loved.
Sasuke snuffled a bit on your chest and shifted his position to be more comfortable. You were all laying together now, Sasuke on his side of the nest, Naruto on his side, and you in the middle. It was so comfortable that you fully believed they had coordinated the nests to allow a comfy spot for you in the middle. How sweet.
Naruto, on the other hand, was entertaining himself by fiddling with your hair, but his hand movements had been getting slower and slower as he relaxed further into the nest.
“Goodnight,” he said, yawning. “Don’t forget to wake us up if you go into heat, okay? That’s why we’re here.”
“Hn,” a very tired Sasuke agreed, not bothering to open his eyes. His head was a pleasant weight on your chest, and it was clear that he was already halfway to dreamland.
“Goodnight to you, too,” he whispered, leaning over and pressing his lips against yours. “I hope you sleep well because you’re going to need it.”
“Goodnight,” you whispered into the dark room. “To both of you. I promise I’ll cherish this day forever.”
And for the final time, you closed your eyes in the future, knowing that you’d open them in the past.
You didn’t quite finish deciding whether you were going to kiss the fortune teller or punch her in the face before your consciousness drifted away.

Rain clouded your vision, the droplets now pouring down in sheets. You could barely see three feet in front of you. Everything around was reduced to mere dully colored blobs. Trees were puddles of green and brown, and the dirt path was becoming muddier and more slippery by the second. Raising a hand to create a makeshift cover over your eyes, you frantically searched for your partner. Finally, you found him.
Kakashi was locked in hand to hand combat with one of your enemies, their moves so fast you couldn’t even see them. His sharingan eye was open wide, allowing the ninja to parry each attack with stunning accuracy. You understood the situation was under control, and thus began your slow approach to the gray haired man. Suddenly, a flash of blue caught your eye. The enemies teammate was running up behind an unsuspecting Kakashi, weapon in hand.
“Kakashi!”
Your body moved before you had the chance to think. Feet pounding against the ground as hard as they could, you propelled yourself forward into the ninja’s way. The adrenaline assured you could not feel the pain of the wound inflicted on you. You merely jerked back, into the arms of your comrade. Kakashi’s eyes were wide open in horror at your actions, hands slightly shaking as they gripped you in an attempt to steady your teetering figure. You didn’t need to look down to feel the cold metal against your skin, liquid sliding off of it and dripping to the ground below.
“Oh.”
The single word was all you could squeeze out while you struggled to breathe. A black sheet quickly obstructed your vision as your eyes snapped shut, legs giving out underneath you. Strong arms wrapped around your form and laid you on the ground. You felt like you were floating in a black pool, your body  weightless as you hung on the edge of unconsciousness. Trembling fingers trailed across your cheek, and you heard a whisper echo in your empty mind.
“I’ll be right back, Y/N. You’ll be alright. I promise.”
It was hours later when your eyes snapped open, breath returning to you in a crashing wave. The gasp that left your lips made you grimace as an aching pain emerged from your stomach. Looking down, you observed that your entire lower torso had been wrapped in multiple layers of bandages. A dim red peeked through the cloth, signaling that you would have to change them soon. Brows furrowing, you tried to remember how and why you ended up in the medical bay. Your eyes noticed a silver item on the bed next to you, and upon closer inspection, you realized it was a tuft of hair, attached to a head. Attached to Kakashi’s head, actually.
Everything came flooding back at once; the rain, the fight, the wound, Kakashi cradling you in his quivering arms. If you closed your eyes and thought hard enough, you swore you could feel the rain dripping down your face and trickling into the open wound on your body. The pain in your lower stomach seemed to intensify with the memory, and your features contorted in another wince. Glancing back to Kakashi, you took a moment to study him.
His head was laid on top of his arms on the bed, eyes closed and lips parted, gloved hand dangerously close to yours. The man looked so peaceful, so tranquil, you worried you would wake him up with the sound of your pounding heart. Kakashi truly was a beautiful person, and you couldn’t help but wonder if his hair was as soft as it looked.
One touch couldn’t hurt, right?
Reaching forward, you gently placed your hand on the ninja’s head. A small, barely noticeable, sigh left his lips, and he pushed more towards the hand carding itself through his locks. Your cheeks heated as you continued to play with his hair, smiling slightly. It was, indeed, as soft as it looked, if not more. The strands felt like silk between your fingers, slipping easily through them. Love that you had buried long ago resurfaced, ticking your stomach with pleasant butterfly-esque tingles.
“Taking advantage of a sleeping man? I didn’t take you for that kind of girl, Y/N.”
Kakashi’s voice was amused, his eye opening to meet your widened ones. You immediately snatched your hand away, clutching it to your chest as your heart sped significantly. Struggling to even peer into his noir eye, you flitted your gaze to the blank walls of the room. Without having to look, you knew Kakashi had propped his head upon his hand so he could stare at you with a sly grin. After a moment, he cleared his throat, prompting you to glance back over to him and meet his serious gaze.
“Hey, Y/N, can I ask you something?”
You nodded silently.
“Why... Why did you throw yourself in front of that blade?”
The question was, for lack of better words, unexpected. There was something vulnerable in the way Kakashi asked it, as if he couldn’t genuinely believe someone would do something for him without an ulterior motive. Blinking, you pondered the best way to phrase your reply.
“Well, I didn’t want you to get hurt.”
Your simple answer caught your friend off guard, sending him into a stunned silence. Eventually, he chuckled quietly to himself and covered his face with his gloved hand. You watched him, curious as to what he would say next. Removing the hand from his face, he took your hand that had been laying, forgotten, on the bed next to your body. Jumping in surprise, you kept your eyes trained on his arm. Kakashi pressed the hand against his cheek, closed his eye, and smiled.
“Y/N, if you keep saying such sweet things, I might just fall for you.”
For what seemed to be the umpteenth time today, your heart skipped a beat in your chest. Kakashi held your hand for a moment longer, before gently settling it back down on the cot. He was thinking, coal orb trained on the snow white of your sheets.
“I understand that you wanted to help, but please, never do that again. I thought I was going to die of worry.”
Worry? Kakashi was worried about you? His statement warmed your cheeks further. It was strangely flattering to know that someone who was usually so level-headed had been thrown into the depths of anxiety by your actions. Smiling to yourself, you nodded and glanced down to your wrapped wound. If you were being completely honest, you would throw yourself in front of any weapon if it meant that Kakashi would live another day.
“I’m the one who is supposed to protect you..”

Love and Letters V-day Day2
Title: Love and Letters
Rating: G
Summary: Sakura is in a Suna bookstore when she hears a familiar voice. And what is this about a letter?
“You’re really foolish aren’t you, my friend?” Sakura ducked back in the shelves of the bookcase at the sound of Gai’s voice.
What is Gai doing in Suna?  She peaked her head over the stacks to see silver hair surfing the tops of the shelves.
“Shes’ not that stupid, Gai.” Kakashi’s deep voice reverberated through the paperbacks.
“Of course she’s not stupid!” Gai said emphatically, slapping, no doubt, his knee. Or a book. “Only foolish people think that Hatake Kakashi doesn’t deserve love.”
Love? Her hands went to the bag at her side. The letter she wrote to him burned at her hip.
She had sent him countless letters from her time in Suna. Multiple a week since she arrived. It was almost like a diary.
And he wrote back essays. Their letters had become longer and more nonsensical as time passed. Speaking of nothing and everything but definitely not-
“She doesn’t love me, Gai.” It was a phrase he’d said many times, she could tell by his sigh.
They were moving up the aisle. She back stepped, surveying any escape routes. For some reason, she didn’t want to be caught. “She’s got so much going for her. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she…her eyes, Gai.”
Sakura was at the end of the shelves. She could go left or right. She ducked to the right, down the aisle they just left, her face flushed crimson. She wasn’t sure why Kakashi’s words affected her so much. She received letters from him daily and he hadn’t mentioned a woman.
Or a trip to Suna.
“I know, I know, her eyes, her eyes.” Gai’s chuckle rumbled deep in his chest. “And her beauty is only matched by her brains.”
“I have no idea what she’s talking about half the time.” He confessed. Sakura’s heart twisted painfully. Their last few letters were discussing if it was better to buy dog shampoo or just use dish soap. She threatened him with a dissertation about skin conditions and causations as to why his dogs liked her better than him if he thought about it again. “Sometimes I feel like I need a dictionary.” He said wistfully. When did Kakashi become wistful? And why did her heart sink at his words?
Gai hummed, “They sell those in the back.”
“Why are we even here? We aren’t here to read.”
“You can use it to look up ‘delusional.’”
“I’m not-”
“I see the way you look at her.” Kakashi hadn’t looked at her in months. Not since she came to Suna. “And the soft smile she has when you enter a room.” The noise that came out of Kakashi’s throat was like that of a dying cat. “I don’t take you with me for my health.
“Spring is blossoming between the two of you. Do not let it wilt before it even has the chance to bloom.”
Kakashi let out another strangled noise. The sound of a wheelchair hitting the book shelf echoed. The books rumbled but they did not fall. “Go! Find her! Embrace her! Confess your love!”
“Sit down before you destroy your leg again.” Sakura started to backstep towards the door. I don’t want to hear any more of this.
“It will give us a much better excuse to find Sakura than to be prowling around in bookstores.” Sakura froze at her name. “Why haven’t you sought her out yet?”
Sakura leaned forward, but she thought better of it. She definitely didn’t want to get caught now.
“Because I don’t know if I beat that stupid letter here or not.” He groaned.
She jumped, startling the cashier, who was also listening intently. Letter?! Her hands went to her bag. She hadn’t had any mail today. She almost gasped out loud. But she did yesterday, and it was still in her bag. She hadn’t read it yet. The cogs in her mind started churning that she missed the rest of what Kakashi said.
“It’s like I told you on the way here. You won’t know unless you tell her.” Gai sighed. “Though a drunken letter professing your undying love isn’t what I was going for.”
“It’s your fault! I wouldn’t have written anything like that if you hadn’t gotten out the souchu.”
“Do not blame me for your hearts need to burst forth!”
Sakura panicked, she could see Gai’s casted leg, then his knee. She exchanged a glance with the cashier, who was pointing at her, looking excited.
“This is your chance to tell her how you feel. To explain to her before she reads the letter.”
“Gai-”
“Tell her.”
“Gai, no.”
“Tell me what?” Sakura was just as surprised at her voice as Kakashi, who shoved Gai roughly and jumped back. Gai gripped his wheels and smiled pleasantly.
“There she is!” He waved. Kakashi looked pale, “I thought that was you I saw in the window!”
Sakura watched with medical awe as Kakashi’s face went from pale to green to crimson to a deep shade of purple all within the span of two minutes.
“Sa-Sa-Sakura.” He was trembling. She was genuinely afraid he was having some kind of episode.
She leapt into action. “What are you guys doing here?” Her hands were on his forehead and then his wrist before he could turn to glare at Gai.
“We’re here to intercept a letter he wrote to you.”
“Gai.”
“Ask what’s in the letter.” Gai cupped his mouth and whispered loudly. Sakura turned to see him wink before pointing towards the door. “I’ll be outside.”
Sakura watched as Gai wheeled himself out, humming softly.
She turned back to Kakashi. His face, what she could see of it, was balmy and pale. His eyes wide and frightful. If she hadn’t known he’d spent the last ten minutes in the bookstore, perusing the aisle talking about letters and love, she would have thought he had been stabbed. And he was looking at her like she had done the stabbing.
She double checked just to make sure.
The tension was thick as she fretted over her small examination; very aware that his eyes were boring into her. Her body heated as she focused on her breathing. Her mind had released high pitched whining as she realized she hadn’t let go of his wrist.
“So…a letter.” She willed the shakiness out of her voice.
Sakura wanted to know everything and nothing about this letter. She wanted to consume every word, every period, every comma of what this letter could be.
Was it addressed to her? Was it supposed to be? She wasn’t sure if she wanted to know.
She still hadn’t let go of his wrist.
“It’s not what you think.” He said quickly. His heart racing under her thumb.
“It’s okay.” She said brightly, looking at the tendons in his wrist. “I won’t open any more of my letters.”
“Sakura, no, I”
“I’ll let you go through-” Sakura froze as she was silenced by masked lips. Herr brain shut down as she felt them move softly against hers. Her brain came back online. She gasped. As quickly as they were there, they were gone, stealing her breath as they left. She heard a thunk. Blinking, she saw Kakashi’s face crimson again as stumbled back into a shelf, his right hand coming up to his face. Even with the mask she could she his mouth opening and closing before he let out an eep and shoved past her and out the door, tripping over Gai, who barely maneuvered out of the way.
Gai’s eyes were bright as they caught Sakura’s. He turned to look to where Kakashi was still stumbling off before looking back to Sakura with a shit eating grin, tears in his eyes. He took off after him.
His letter, maybe the letter burned against her thigh.
She looked over to where the cashier stood, mouth agape with the same grin as Gai. “Must be some letter.”

Beach party with Kakashi and obito
Warnings : alcohol, consuming alcoholic drink , flirting , cursing ,
Modern au
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The sun was about to go down , and the mood at the party was excellent. Maybe because you've drank so much or maybe because it is great? Who cares as long as it's good and you took another sip of your drink . You've danced since hours to the music showing your best moves , and caught the eyes of some people . Several tried flirting with you but always changing their mind to flirt with someone else when they saw kakashis and obitos death stares . But one dude never fucked off and your bodyguards took good care of him . Did you mind their protectiveness ? No it was a bit funny and cute but you didn't mind as long as they didn't took your fun away . But then there was their side , they always had an eye on you . Not because of how sexy you look , well yeah because of that too but the main reason was they didn't want anyone to have the chance of stealing you from them . The boys kept their love silent always silently admiring you , they both know they love you but they aren't fighting against each other they think it's not needed . They both have one goal . Seeing you happy and safe , so they work together . And what they hate ? People who flirt with you even if you said no , like right now . " Can I buy you a drink pretty kitten?" The man said getting closer to you , with his dirty grin . "No thanks could you please fuck off now" you nicely asked but he shook his head . Nope this dude is going to be a problem . " My car has room for two , and my pocket has enough money for you " he said , his grin even dirtier now . His arm made his way to your waist but before he could touch it he was pushed back by Kakashi and obito walked up behind you , spinning you around and looking down at you , he mumbled something but you couldn't understand it because of the people screaming and talking around you , "what did you say?" You asked and obito replied with nothing . You turned around to find Kakashi walking towards you again rubbing his fist , " he won't be a problem anymore" he said and did his closed eyes smile again . But Kakashi was wrong the man came back one hand on his mouth so nobody sees the bleeding lip Kakashi gave him . He walked straight toward you and grabbed your arm , tried to drag you with him but obito cancelled his plans and gave him a nice punch in the face . Luckily no one noticed it because of how drunk they were .obito and Kakashi shortly glanced at each other and nodded , Suddenly Kakashi grabs your shoulder and drags you out of the party leaving obito there to deal with the pedo . " Don't worry we'll wait here for him " Kakashi said looking at the party , you were worried about obito , you never saw him fight . Was he even able to fight,? You thought so but you never knew until now . The black haired uchiha left the party with a bloody fist and a small wound at his cheek and walked straight towards you both . " What happened why is your hand bloody? " Kakashi asked ready to hear that he killed him because that's what angry obito would do . " It wasn't a good idea punching him on the lip where you left that wound . Now can I please get a tissue and get out of here? " Obito explained annoyed and with anger in His tone , Kakashi handed him the tissue he wanted and you three left the party to go to kakashis car , Kakashi is driving and you and obito are watching your surroundings . Until a car started following you , obito looked back trying to identify the driver of the car , once he got the clear look of him he saw it was the guy who tried to flirt with you , " it's the idiot he's following us" obito said and Kakashi laughed " well he won't be following us for long " and Suddenly Kakashi rised the tempo of the car , scaring you " Kakashi what the fuck " obito half yelled scared of the sudden action of his friend . " Trust me " Kakashi said and drifted multiple times around some curves in a high tempo
After a while of drifting and driving in a high tempo the blue car lost you and Kakashi drove to your apartment , suddenly obito spoke out of nowhere making you jump a little " I don't know if that creep finally fucked off or if he's still after you but it would be good if someone stays with you for you safety " and looks at you with a look of hope in his eyes . Did he hope you would say yes? But why? Ugh y/n you dumbass maybe because friends worry for friends . " Y/n hey,?" Kakashi asked bringing you back to reality again "yeah it would be better " you answered looking at Kakashi , "so who do you want to stay with you ?" Obito asked , both boys are now looking at you
Who do you choose ? Both , obito or Kakashi?
Ask box is open , please don't be rude if i did something wrong i did this at fucking 2 am so what you expecting
Want more things like that ? Request it if ya want
Anyways have nice day/night

The Next Generation
Words: 975
Characters: Hatake Kakashi, Nara Shikaku, Akimichi Choza, Yamanaka Inoichi
Warning: Mentions of Sakumo's Death
Summary: While Inoichi attempts to train Kakashi, Shikaku and Choza play a game of Shogi and watch.
Created with lots of help from @thespookymoth
The soft click of wooden Shogi pieces being placed against the board was usually calming for Shikaku. One of the few activities that he took part in that he genuinely enjoyed, granting him a moment's break from the constant need to plan and organize every little detail for multiple missions before they were assigned to operatives.
Today, however, that sound he loves so much isn’t the only one echoing in the room.
“He’s doing it wrong,” he grumbled under his breath, glaring towards Inoichi as he explained the next scenario to Kakashi. “At this rate, all he’s going to teach the kid is his bad habits. The best way to get himself killed out in the field.”
Across the board, Choza chuckled.
“You’re being too hard on him,” moving his next piece, he settled back into his seat. “He’s the best at what he does. If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t be alive today.”
While that was true, it didn’t change the fact that Inoichi was teaching Kakashi all of the worst ways to approach manipulation. Ways that were guaranteed to get Kakashi killed, especially if-
“What if he has Sensei’s personality?” moving his next piece, he watched as Choza examined the board. “You know Sensei was terrible at smooth-talking. The man couldn’t have talked his way out of a bad date no matter how hard he tried.”
“Which is why he was never put into those situations,” Choza reminded him. “Kakashi’s a smart kid, but he’s not going to be great at everything we teach him no matter how hard we try. That’s not Inoichi or anyone else's fault. If Manipulation ends up being something he can’t grasp, those will be scenarios I have no doubt you’ll avoid putting him into.”
Choza was right, of course. Shikaku was always careful about which missions he put their operatives on, and it wasn’t like Kakashi would be taking missions any time soon. The only reason he was even training already was because he was already so far ahead in his regular schooling. Always three steps ahead of the rest of his class, he had grown bored.
The kid was ten and already demanding a challenge.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Raising an eyebrow, Shikaku glanced back towards the area where Inoichi and Kakashi were training together and took a deep breath. Holding back his laughter when he saw the tiny ten-year-old glaring up at Inoichi. “Why would I compliment someone when they haven’t done anything to deserve it?”
“Well, I-”
“If I want to compliment someone, shouldn’t it be about something they’re actually good at? Or even just something that’s actually positive about them?” Kakashi cut him off, overanalyzing what Inoichi was trying to teach him. “I mean, then I'm less likely to be caught in a lie.”
It was impressive just how right the kid was, but Shikaku was too busy enjoying the stunned look on Inoichi’s face. No one had ever complained about his training methods before, outside of Shikaku.
“Well, you see…” Inoich glanced towards his teammates, clearly looking for help.
“Don’t leave him hanging,” Shikaku teased. “He asked you a question.”
Inoichi’s revenge would be swift and sweet, there’s no doubt about that. He’ll have to keep his guard up for weeks if he wants to avoid whatever Inoichi plans for him. Perhaps it was time for him to take a vacation actually. Getaway for a few days.
“You know what,” placing his hands on his hips, Inoichi turned his attention back to Kakashi with the most innocent-looking smile on his face. “I think that’s enough about Manipulation today. How about you and Shikaku do some training on tactical leadership.”
Cute.
He thought he could pawn Kakashi off on Shik-
“Can we!?” Kakashi turned to him with hopeful eyes. “Dad used to teach me, so I know a bit, but he always said you were the best tactical leader he knew. I’m sure there’s a lot of things I could learn from you.”
This was the first time he had ever seen Kakashi excited about learning. Sure, the kid liked learning, but usually, he had a bored expression on his face when they told him what he would be learning next. He’d sit and pay attention, but anyone with eyes could tell that he wasn’t enjoying himself.
“We should have started with Shikaku,” Inoichi grumbled, making his way towards his teammates. “Go. I’ll take over your Shogi game.”
“I didn’t realize we were handing Choza the win,” narrowly avoiding the foot aimed for his side, Shikaku stood up in his spot and sighed. “Well, can’t have them all I guess. Kakashi wants to learn something useful finally so-”
“Finish that sentence and I’ll make sure you don’t get a good cup of tea for the next year.”
As any smart man would, Shikaku shut his mouth. The last thing he wanted was to have his tea tested for poison before he even took a sip. Still, seeing the way Inoichi flopped down into his chair with a huff was pretty amusing.
“Hmm, where to start,” coming to a stop at Kakashi’s side, he reached out and buried a hand into that long spiky silver hair. Something his own Sensei used to do when he was much younger, desperate to show just how good of a spy he could be even when he didn’t have as much drive as Inoichi and Choza. “How about we try working through some scenarios? Give me a chance to see just how good you are.”
Kakashi’s eyes widened, his attempt to hide his excitement evident from the way his hands twisted into the fabric of his pants, even though his eyes gave it all away.
Something he had no doubt Choza would be able to teach him to hide better when it was his turn to train Kakashi.
