not to be totally predictable, but my character ask is: Ryan Erzahler

First impression - From his character description and the trailer I thought he would be more of a hipster. From his early scenes I liked him, giving relatable social anxiety vibes.

Impression now - I love him! Ryan my beloved! I think he’s the most developed character, we know about his hobbies, family, future plans ect. And I really like his dynamic with Chris. He’s kinda the perfect character for a writer because when there’s not enough in canon it’s hard to connect with them (why I struggle to like Nick) but if theres too much it adds a lot of pressure.

Favorite moment - I love the scene where he and Dylan are walking up to the radio hut and talking. It’s my favourite in their dynamic and I think when Dylan is honest and vulnerable for seemingly the first time all summer Ryan actually starts to fall for him and take him more seriously. His questions about Dylan’s interests in physics seemed very genuine and he even makes some more jokes! I think it’s my second fav moment in the whole game, behind the Laura and Max reunion hug.

Idea for a story - My current the quarry wip now my college au is done is about Ryan, Dylan and Kaitlyn being poly whilst Jacob continues to misread the situation as a love triangle he must intervene in before someone gets hurt. It’s another more lighthearted fic.

Maybe two couples needed his help. Nick and Abi. Kaitlyn and… well, he’d have to figure out who worked best for her and then nudge them in the right direction.

Jacob smiled to himself, his own lingering heartbreak over last summer and Emma already forgotten.

Unpopular opinion - I don’t think Ryan’s rude to or disinterested in the rest of the counselors. He’s coded as neurodivergent and a lot of favs have headcanoned him as autistic specifically. I’ve seen justice smith in other stuff and he’s very expressive, so Ryan’s aloofness isn’t him being a bad actor, it’s a character choice.

Ryan clearly cares about his friends and just isn’t great at expressing it through words. But he throws himself into danger to protect his friends. He’s also very funny in the same kind of dry, sarcastic way Dylan is, he’s just better at being straight (haha) faced when delivering it.

Im not sure how unpopular that opinion actually is though. I’ve seen more people defending Ryan and mentioning seeing hate but I haven’t seen that much negativity against him.

Favorite relationship - Dylan obviously.

Favorite headcanon - Ryan loves studio ghibli films! I could see it being something he hyperfixated on as a kid and him having a bunch of those giant artworks for all his favourite films. Watching them inspired him to learn art and animation.

I’m happy it made you happy! Admittedly, Cove simply being someone with autism that grew up not being diagnosed was something I included for myself. I didn’t really think anyone would notice or ask about it, aha. But players did start to have questions about his traits, so I started to talk about it outside of the game. It’s great to see it get such a positive response and now I do feel like having it be a non-topic may have been the wrong choice and bringing it up would’ve been good in terms of having positive representation for that. I don’t know if I’ll find a way to mention it in Step 4 now, with how far along the game is, but I am at least thinking about it when originally it wasn’t something I really even considered.

Hey!  Just wanted to say thank you for Our Life.  It's been a bright spot and a needed escape in what's otherwise been a crummy year.  I know you just did a Q&A post but I figured I'd ask anyway.  Was just curious about Step 4.  Will it be similar to the other Steps in that it consists of several different moments or will it just be one long sequence?

Step 4 is shorter than the prior Steps because it’s just an epilogue rather than a full arc of a story. It’ll consist of scenes that all happen in a set row one after the other. There won’t be a collection of Moments to choose from. But it’ll still be very sweet and fun.

How much I earn varies a lot month to month based on Steam sales, Patreon backers, and how many projects are in full production at the time. It’s also hard to say how much I make historically, since that also changes dramatically year by year. But I do earn enough to work on these games full time! I really appreciate all the support that allows me to do that.

Hey!! I was wondering for the 18+ Our Life moment, will there be an emphasis on safety/comfort for all involved? I feel like there  would be just going off of what the rest of the game is like, but I wanted to ask 

Yes! Cove is a nervous boy himself and also super cautious about doing anything the MC doesn’t like, so clear consent from both is absolutely needed for anything to happen. It’s a conversational sexy times Moment with stops/starts so the two can talk about how they’re feeling, rather than a heat of the moment just going for it kind of thing.

Hey!! I was wondering how long the wedding dlc would be? Will it be broken up into moments, or just one big event? 

It’s one long series of scenes all in a row rather than a collection of Moments to pick from. It’s the shortest and the least expensive of all the DLCs. It’s not super crucial to get and those who aren’t into big weddings can totally skip it without worry.

Haha, thank you. He doesn’t hate them but he’s certainly not pleased with them. Jeremy is either uncomfortable with or annoyed by people being sweet on him, depending on how they approach it. He’s far more comfortable with jerkiness. It lets him relax and he can be himself without it being a problem, since he’s also a jerk. He feels a level of guilt being such a little punk to kind people, not enough to be a better person but still.

Has Cove dated or been interested in someone other than MC? 

Nope! He stays single over the course of the game if he’s not with the MC.

Is Step 4 more mature? Or it's gonna be set in similar atmosphere as Step 3? 

Step 4 is a similar atmosphere as Step 3. Though, it’s actually kind of less mature-topic heavy than Step 3 since it’s just a ‘hey, let’s check in on the gang to see what they’re up to’ style epilogue rather than a story arc with serious issues.

will there be new music for now and forever?? or will the old our life music be reused? 

It’s gonna be a brand new soundtrack. We’ll be opening up a job position for that soon.

Hi, is it okay if we use the assets in Our Life (like the sprites) for fanworks or fan content content, like edits? 

Sure! Just as long as you don’t use the assets made by those artists to make money.

Quick clarification on Step 3 choices: I hope I didn't come off rude (because I LOVE the game, really!!), I was just curious because the intro threw me off at times. For example, you could choose how you felt about Elizabeth in Step 2 (Dinner), but during the Step 3 intro, it says that you got closer to Liz and I didn't get a choice in it. 

For the example, it can’t be helped that you’re closer to Liz in Step 3 than you were in Step 2 because she’s inherently closer to the MC regardless of whether you liked her or not in Step 2. Her feelings are out of your control and the game isn’t so dramatic that you can push her affection away and not let her bond with you, haha. But ‘being closer’ can still be relative. For some people maybe that means you’re best buds now and for others it might just mean you’re not fighting all the time any more. If there’s other parts you want to mention, feel free to let us know.

Did the illustrator for Our Life change? 

We have many OL artists! The main artists who set the game’s style haven’t changed, but there’s multiple other artists who help finish assets.

Hey! First, I just want to say I've really enjoyed how detailed OL got with gender identity and sexuality and how respectful the topics were handled! It's been so wonderful to play since the experiences could be close to my own (I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up at parts). Second, I was wondering, would future games explore the topic of polyamory? I'd love to see more visual novels allow room for that and I saw you've explored the topic before.

Thank you! We do want to include polyamory in at least some of our future projects. Floret Bond, which might be what you’re referring to when mentioning how we’ve explored the topic before, is on hold unfortunately. So right now I’m not sure when something might release or what will be the first game of ours to come out with poly relationships (we might do something else before FB is done). We’ll have see how things ends up coming together.

Hey um. I feel like im not allowed to ask this on the private discord cuz people will yell at me but why is there so much focus on OL2 and not finishing OL1 stuff? I like the new people but i kind of want to finish cove's story and get derek and baxter stuff first. didn't people pay for it? 

I’m sorry, I don’t understand entirely what’s making that situation a concern. There’s a channel in the discord for critique where no one is allowed to comment back. People can voice things they’re worried about without any way for others to push back on it. And the two teams working on the OL games are different. We try to post pretty often about how we’re hiring brand new people to start on Our Life: Now & Forever. The OL1 team is all still working on OL1 like normal. There’s only more updates on the Patreon for OL2 because the expansions to the first game are mostly script-based at this point while OL2 is just starting to get all its art, which means there’s a lot more to show off as previews.

Also, there was a Kickstarter for the first Our Life, if that’s what you mean by people paying for it. But one of the stretch goals was to start Our Life 2 early, before fully completing Our Life 1, so that the new game could be out sooner. It wouldn’t make sense to stop doing OL2 work because that would be going against what backers were promised. Maybe you didn’t get the full story before and hopefully this clears it up!

Hello! I know it's up to every player but.. What is your recommendation for playing order? Did you ever had any timeline  events planned? 

I didn’t make the events with a planned timeline. The events got made simply as I had ideas for them and then I just kind of organized them from left to right on the screen in an order to space out more dramatic ones between more lighthearted ones. Any order the player wants to go with is totally valid!

The Step 4 epilogue is free! The Cove Wedding DLC does cost money, though. Those are planned to be shorter than the usual Steps/DLCs.

Yeah, you can. It’s not super exact or detailed, but there are options about it.

Is there a pandemic in Our Life world, or is it just in a better timeline with no pestilence? 

Our Life is pandemic-free! That didn’t exist when we began working on the project and it’s not something we’d like to feature in this story now that it has unfortunately come along, aha.

After being sick/scared you have to continue to be upset/unwell. If you calm down and decide to just chill you’ll end up playing tic-tac-toe.

Hi, GB Patch! Since Lee was initially commissioned to only appear in two Steps does this mean she won't appear in the Wedding DLC? I really like her character so it'll be a little weird to not have our cousin at our wedding, aha.

She is gonna be in Step 4/the wedding DLC after all! We’re still working with her creator to make sure it fits with what they wanted.

you groan, rolling over only to find that you couldn't actually do that. had it always been like this? maybe not, you think to yourself. you groan once again and try to force your body to roll onto the right side of your bed but a firm hand kept you in place. already this early in the morning you couldn't have what you want.

"you're gonna wake him up," someone whispers softly. you peel open your eyes which are heavy with sleep and are lowkey protesting for you not to do that. you wonder for a moment if rolling over was worth slightly waking up for, however whoever was awake knew you were awake too now. maybe next time, you suppose. it would've been nice to sleep comfortably last night but it felt like you hadn't slept in ages and you can only guess why that is. the bed was cramped, and hot, and goddamn, someone had turned off the aircon in the middle of the night!

when you look up, one out of two of your boyfriends, taehyun, is already sitting up against the headboard, completely awake. his head is perched up against the headboard and in his hands is his phone. "were you awake this whole time?" you ask him. your voice is raspy and sounds gross as you prefer to not speak as soon as you wake up but you're curious. though it's true that he was the early bird among you three it was still fairly early for him to be awake.

"i woke up an hour ago plus the bed is too stuffy," he says looking down at you staring up at him. so he had felt it as well, nice to know you weren't the only one who slept uncomfortably. "well.." you let your words drift off into the air as you turn to the other boy who is completely unconscious on the bed. his mouth is slightly open and you swear you can see drool threatening to slip out of his mouth. his curly hair is messily strewn all over the place and in his clutches is a plushie you or taehyun had once gifted him for a birthday, you don't remember.

what a sight, you think to yourself. huening kai, ever the dreamy sleeper. he looks peaceful despite the contrast of how absolutely petrified he was at the sight of the haunted doll, annabelle, in the movie you all watched last night.

taehyun shakes his head with a smile on his face, "it's not like i suggested watching literally anything else." you make a movement that you think could pass off as a shrug but you don't think taehyun can tell. "he said he could handle it and you know i can't say no to our baby."

you move around on the bed for a moment to find a comfortable position to speak to him in without disturbing kai. "plus we all got to cuddle for once, even though it was hot as hell last night," you mumble.

"sacrifices were made," taehyun mumbles. he sets his phone down on the bed beside you and rubs your head in what you think is an affectionate way but he's been working out and it hurts. "ouch," you grumble, deciding to stick by hueningkais still asleep frame.

the moment you cuddle up to kai who is facing away from you, he turns over so that you're both face to face. you don't think he realizes so you just kiss the tip of his nose lightly. "breakfast?" taehyun suddenly asks. you think to yourself for a moment. it sounds tempting to go help taehyun with whatever he plans on making for the three of you to consume however, the bed is just too comfortable. despite it being hot, kai's body heat is a type of hot that doesn't make you uncomfortable.

"can you go make it? i wanna be here when he wakes up so he doesn't think we abandoned him after the movie." kai can be a bit tender after scary movies. the whole reason why you and taehyun hadn't slept well was that, for no other underlying reason at all, kai suddenly wanted all three of you to cuddle on the bed.

it was a cute idea that you agreed to and although taehyun was reluctant, he too agreed to the proposal.

you move your boyfriends hair away from his peaceful looking face and you watch as his nose scrunches up but soon goes back to normal after a couple of seconds.

"we also need a bigger bed," you mumble randomly. you hear taehyun snort a laugh behind you, "when we first moved in, the first thing i pointed out was how tiny the bed was." he crosses his arms over his chest and decides to watch you play with kai's hair.

you turn over with a playful frown on your face, "im not the one who had a growth spurt! the bed was fine back then." you feel hueningkai stir beside you and suddenly his gravelly morning voice is rumbling through your ear.

"bunk beds?" he mumbles with his eyes still closed and a lopsided smile on his face. you tug on a piece on his hair when he situates his body to lounge over both yours and taehyun's like free real estate. "hell no," you both say in unison, protesting the idea.

"im going back to sleep," kai grumbles with a slight roll of his eyes. taehyun pats the other boys hair, soothing out the stray bed hairs that are sticking out. "what do you want to eat?" taehyun asks, getting up from the bed and stretching out his limbs. "make pancakes," you suggest. thankfully, hueningkai is fast asleep once again so he can't protest to the food choice.

taehyun nods, walking away to the kitchen. you decide to stay and run your hands lightly up and down your boyfriend's back. his slow breaths are lulling you back to sleep too but you fight to stay awake. if you fall back asleep you know you both won't wake up until late in the afternoon and that just won't do because kai has to finish the errands he didn't finish yesterday.

you get up from the bed, making sure not to wake kai up, which somehow you manage to do successfully. you make a mental note that he sleeps like a baby after scary movies.

you walk into the kitchen and see taehyun preparing the ingredients for pancakes. he lets you watch him for a while until you go up to him and insist on clinging to him, something he can't and won't protest against.

about 15 minutes into making pancakes, hueningkai straggles into the kitchen. you snort out a laugh at his appearance. his tall frame is leaning forward, the first indication that he's still half asleep. the second is his pouty lips and closed eyes. his hair is sticking up in all different directions as he messes with it because he sees you staring at it.

"you left me," he scolds. "you were sleeping," you defend quickly. "i got hungry," you smile.

"whatever, they smell good," he yawns. "wanna taste?" taehyun asks, holding up a piece of a previously cooked pancake. "yes, me first!" you detach yourself from his back and stand in front of him so he can feed you. hueningkai sleepily walks over for his bite of food to taste after you.

"they're good," you both say. "of course they are, i made them," taehyun says proudly. you fight the urge to flick his head, "i helped." you mumble. "i don't doubt it at all," hueningkai pipes up. "they have a bit of your flavor."

"what the hell does that even mean?" you give him a weird look, waiting for him to elaborate. out of the corner of hit eye you see taehyun smile lazily at overhearing the early morning conversation. "god wait, i didn't mean it like that! im still half asleep for fucks sake," he raised his hands up and waves them.  "im going back to sleep," he announces.

as he starts sauntering off back to the room you detach from taehyun who seems to be almost done. "im still kind of tired too... come join when you're done," you give him a chaste kiss as you walk away from him.

taehyun sighs to himself as he finishes up the rest of the food.

but Full Disclosure i am not a Lesbian Oracle & i can't tell you whether or not you're a lesbian, that's just something you have to figure out in your own time. but just so you know, there's absolutely no rush to finding your label. there's nothing wrong with trying different ones out until you find one you're comfortable with, & if you don't feel like it, you don't even have to use a label at all!

it really depends on the men you like & in what way you like them. for me personally, i went through pretty much Every Single Label before i figured out i was a lesbian. there were Sometimes men i thought i was attracted to, but turns out it was either comphet or me having No Idea What Romantic Attraction Actually Was. & that may or may not be the case for you!

i'm sure you already know this from your Lesbian Sibling, but if your crushes are exclusively for celebrities/fictional characters/otherwise Unattainable, Unrealistic Men, its very possible it's just comphet! i don't experience comphet super super often, but many many many lesbians do. if you're getting those Romantic Warm Fuzzies about real, Attainable men you Actually Know, then it might be different!

most of the reason why i thought i wasnt a lesbian is because of the "crushes" i had on some boys at my school. the first one i stopped liking Instantly when my friend said he liked me. the second one was the same situation. the third one i stopped liking because he asked me out & even though i said yes & we were dating for all of two weeks, i felt repulsed and incredibly uncomfortable the second it turned Actually Romantic, which is what i thought i wanted.

the way i started figuring out that it wasn't really romantic attraction was by imagining the boys i thought i had a crush on in an objectively very romantic situation. for example, me & Boy Classmate #18 at a candle lit dinner kissing & making out & all that. just writing that made me uncomfortable, which tells me i'm not romantically attracted to Boy Classmate #18.

however! not every lesbian feels the same way about men! some are Repulsed like me, & some are just indifferent. plenty of people find out they're lesbians well into adulthood & after being in relationships with men. i'd recommend talking to Lesbian Sibling about how she feels towards the people she's attracted to, and seeing whether that's how you feel toward these men! might not be foolproof, i'm not an expert of course, i'm just thinking about what could've helped me when i was figuring it out.

i don't know the specifics of your situation or who you are as a person or what your attraction feels like so i'm mostly just sharing my Lesbian Experience in hopes that it'll help you realize whether or not you could be a lesbian. you could be lesbian, you could be omni, you could be poly, you could be bi ... all of which are equally Valid And Gnarly identities!

i have no idea if any of this was useful or even made sense, but i hope my Autobiography could help you in some way. but again, there's absolutely no pressure to figure out exactly who you are. that's something you do on your time, in your own way, & only if you want to.

• After being gone for four years he became desperate, anyone with any information of you had become important to him. He was patient at first but he can only last so long. He probably went to your family and friends and asked about you. If they know he'll take care of them one way or another.

• Once he finds you he is ecstatic. He sits outside of your apartment, jumping up and down just waiting to walk in and hug you. But when he sees you walking past the slightly open window with something in your arms, he freezes. Gon simply stops and stares at the moving bundle in your arms. At first he might not understand, but once he thinks about what this might mean, he grows furious.

• Lets just say he jumped to the conclusion that it is your but might not be his.

• Gon enters your house by breaking the front door open. You are obviously surprised and jump back from the place near the window, the child in your arms now crying. He storms around the apartment, looking for any sign of another guy in your life. When he finds nothing he storms over to you and demands to know where the baby came from.

• Out of fear of his immense aura, you would be quick to say it's his. Just like that he switches back to his happy, go lucky self.

• You'll be shaken up by this of course, but he won't pay any mind when he rips the child from your arms and holds it in his. He will shush it and calm it down easily while dotting both you and them for doing such a good job.

• Gon will grab your hand and drag you to the couch or bedside, whatever is closer, and hold the both of you close. By now the toddler won't be crying anymore and instead laughing and playing with their dad. They may not have been outright told who their dad was or what they look like, but the baby will know.

• Speaking of the toddler, this thing would be beyond adorable. Big round eyes and a button nose, chubby cheeks and spiky blackish-green hair, they will be adorable.

• I don't think Gon will ask why you left, instead he will just take you two somewhere safe and make sure you can't leave again. You or the child.

Killua:

• Luckily Killua doesn't have a baby thing like Illumi or Kurapika, but he'd still be proud to be a father.

• When he finds you he is beyond surprised that you were able to evade him for such a long time. Sadly the little chase must come to an end, and it ends now.

• You've been gone for so long that anyone who had or as an affiliation with you is dead, pretty much no questions asked. Because you have been running off for so long you probably would not know this, the only way you would be able to escape for so long is because you left everything behind. It's sad but that is how it would have to be.

• When he finds you he will be beyond pissed off, I mean you left him for four years. That won't ever happen again and he'll make sure of it. Still, he won't show how pissed he is, instead it will be covered by an eerily calm and dull mask.

• He would enter the home you've been staying in at night, carefully maneuvering in the dark to get to you. Killua will start to notice some strange things, kids toys? Small baby bottles? He would instantly know why you left, and in return he would understand your fear, but that won't stop him.

• Instead of going to your room he will find out where the toddler is. Killua would sneak in undetected and loom over the crib/small bed, his child resting inside. The assassin would instantly know it's his, his chest swelling with a sense of pride. The fluffy white hair and pale skin are a huge indication as to who is the father.

• Carefully and gently he would wake up the kid, calmly whispering sweet nothings and how his daddy is home. The toddler would instantly understand, and will excitingly jump up and out of bed to tell you.

• You will wake up by being roughly shaken by your kid, a small questioning 'what' slipping past your lips. Why the hell you they be so excited at this hour? But when your sleepy gaze pulls them in, and your eyes settle on the dark figure looming in the doorway, you know what's wrong. Killua would calmly watch before stepping forward into the moonlight.

• You would be afraid, your child would be happy and tapping about how daddy's home, and Killua would have a smug look across his features.

• That will be that, Killua would use the kid as a hostage of sorts, as insurance to keep you with him. The bouncing baby would be a target to his family, but nothing will happen to the kid or you for as long as he lives.

Kurapika:

• Oh dear, one of the scarier yanderes of the Hunter x Hunter universe. At least for me.

• This guy is already unhinged because of you leaving, being gon for so long, without anyone to keep him in check, everyone would be killed.

• Do you guys remember the Kurapika having an S/O who just vanishes? Yeah, he would give up after six or so years, depending on how long it takes to slaughter anyone who might have a vendetta against him.

• When four years hits he is hunting down the Phantom Troupe, at least starting to hunt them down. He will be wondering the rooftops trying to find the Troupe, maybe he is currently trailing a few of them.

• If like to imagine you accidentally bump paths with them on your way to wherever you are going. Like your walking through the streets with your son/daughter and you accidentally bump shoulders with them. You would apologize (like a decent human being) and move on your merry way. (I might actually turn this into a short story because it sounds fun;))

• If That happens Kurapika would be holding his breath, because you have been found and you were too close to the enemy.

• Weare talking about Kurapika so obviously he would be angry you have left, but seeing you happy and with his child... he's beyond relieved. I mean just look at the kid! Cute blonde hair and round, brown eyes with a round face and gleeful smile.

• I can see Kurapika being very calm about the situation, which would be terrifying since he's a bit emotional. He would meet you at your house with a blank expression.

• When you two meet again he will have mixed emotions. Should he be angry, disappointed, relieved, happy? Honestly he doesn't know.

• But he knows one thing, you won't escape again. He will act like the nice guy to your kid and try to paint you as a damsel in distress. He will manipulate your kid to start being as protective as himself, and he will do this with all of your kids. Kurapika wants more children, he wants a big family, and he'll make sure he has one.

• He will trap you and lock you up, making sure your kids learn to be like him. The kids will also be a bargaining chip, you won't want to leave them but they won't want to leave their dad.

• He might not be as angry as usual, but his manipulation will surely compensate.

Leorio:

• This guy would be deathly irritated at everything if you left him for so long. He would snap at pretty much everyone for the smallest of things. But finally, after devoting so much time in finding you he has finally done it.

• Leorio would simply find you in the street and try and pluck you to the side to give you a piece of his mind. Though before he can do that you are met with some other girls, instantly he would be both curious and more irritated.

• He would take his time brooding in the dark alleyways as your group walks to a daycare. The black haired guy would furrow his brows as he watched you smile and pick up a small kid. The two of you would be laughing.

• Leorio's mood is ever changing from irritated to super happy. This would be one of those moments. He would immediately smile to himself and calmly follow you on your way home.

• When you make it home you see a man standing near your doorway, you are nervous about this man but he doesn't seem threatening. That is until you realize who it is.

• Simple 'Hey babe' exchanges will be given, your son/daughter asking who the man is. Your too frozen to answer.

• So he does for you. He'll answer with his name and then his affiliation with you, this will make your child's day. They had a dad?! That crazy!

• They'll jump into Leorio's arms and start talking about random things. Leorio would act as if nothing happened, as if he was just gone on a business trip or something. And that's what the toddler will be told too, he was gone for a really long business trip.

• You on the other hand will know, and despite him not outright using the kid to threaten you, you probably won't even try. His firework like temper would be enough to scare you into submission.

Anyway, back to these 3... I love to see development in their relationship, everyone is trying, even though they all still have fears but try to overcome them (maybe she doesn't fear that much....she seems the happiest and most content... Who wouldn't in this situation... 🥴... Just imagine... You are tied to the bed, Harrys is on one side massaging your boob and kissing you, Niall is on the other side, doing the same, then they kiss each other and roam their hands on your body..... I HAD to pause a little...) Harry still thinks he's in the way and i see some hesitancy from him as in he feels he's not completely wanted in this relation. I love the fact that Niall ia trying to expand boundaries and accept to get more involved with Harry. They need to explore and discover each other if they want this to work.

After all, a relationship like this one can only work when and IF all involved accept each other completely, without thinking one counts more or less than other. They all have to be equally involved and accepting. If theres jealousy, even a little, it wont work.

and he knows it’s wrong- knows he could get killed for looking at the future queen like this but. “show me how to be good Seokjin- I don't want my wedding night to be my first time- I don't want him to be my first time, I want to know what it's supposed to feel like when someone cares about me” and Seokjin- Seokjin might not love you yet- but he definitely understands your desperation. hell- Seokjin is in love with 6 other people and he’s just desperate for them to all get along most days. Seokjin is definitely the one whose the most poly out of all of them. 

so he shows her how it’s supposed to happen, and they both cum but no penetration happens (because Seokjin’s still a proper man down to his core), and then after I think she realizes like “fuck- I love sex? sex actually feels really good?” and she starts to slowly explore other things. Decides she actually does want to lose her virginity, not to her husband and probably has kind of a mutual virginity loss moment with Hoseok. Who regrets it a little afterward. 

Only because he’s not really sure that he should have- worried that he pressured her or something and only after they talk about it do they both realize that yeah- they both wanted it and there isn’t a problem with what they did as long as her fiance Doesn't find out. and honestly, the king is often visiting his cities and out on hunting trips (where he often kills more people than game). he’s so rarely at the castle and Hoseok is more than happy to help you explore your sexuality when it mutually benefits him. 

I think that Hoseok used to be a child Theif- and he had a certain amount of years that he needs to serve to not become a fugitive. and he only has a few more years before he gets his freedom. no matter the kind of bullshit that Namjoon totes about wanting to serve the crown and stay together- no. Hoseok just wants his freedom back. i think maybe namjoon confessed to hoseok recently- and hoseok didn’t take it well. before that hoseok would always try to convince namjoon to run away with him and namjoon would always try to convince hoseok to stay but the fact that namjoon’s in love with him- would feel alot like betrayl to hoseok because namjoon hadn’t been honest. 

 then he realizes- even after you get married- if you still want him the same way you do now he might have it in him to be something of a courtesan if he so desired. Not that the king would like that very much- it might be beneficial to him to be in your favor in the courts. maybe he could make a name for himself. 

of course, he eventually grows to love you- but it complicates his whole situation with Namjoon. because Namjoon’s been in love with him since they where children and while they all fool around (because they all have sex drives and urges that need to be fufilled and long since had the agreemend of helping each other out) making ties isn’t apart of the plan. i picture namojoon peppering kisses and “im sorry’s” down hoseoks chest one night and hoseok kind of melting. 

but slowly- when Hoseok starts to see the way you look at each other- when Namjoon’s hand touches yours he starts to get jealous and he’s not sure who of- he finds himself going harder with Namjoon at night, and then fucking you equally as hard and passionately with you in the morning. even when he and Jungkook fool around, trading mouths and hands in a way that seasoned lovers only do. 

maybe thats a bit of an i’m sorry in its self- jungkook knows it’s not hoseoks fault- hoseok is beautiful and charming and like sunshine- anyone could fall in love with him. jungook gets why namjoon loves him- he really does- hoseok’s so easy to love. and the affection in jungkook’s eyes weighs on hoseok. he’s not used to strings keeping him places but something in all of you keeps him here. there is somethings squirming under hoseok’s skin and he doesn't realize it until one evening when you talk with Seokjin, Hoseok standing at the door.

“he’s coming home tomorrow night to help with the wedding, I guess we’ll have to postpone our usual etiquette lesson as he’s already written he’s coming to my chambers that night” and Hoseok- Hoseok is just enraged- sitting by the door- at the thought of your husband touching you the way the 7 of them do- enraged at all of it being outside of his control and suddenly- hoseok gets it. he dosent want you to marry your husband. he doesn't want you to have to go through any of it. he wants to preserve the balance you’re starting to have. he’s in love with you and he’s staying- he’ll see this through.  

i think the sex with the others kind of starts in a different way, more of a sensual way. maybe one day they go for a horseback ride and she convinces them to swim in a secluded part of the river and though she keeps her underdress on they can still see all of her body through the thin fabric. and tae wishes for once that he wasn’t so obviously large. because he’s Poking out of his pants and he knows you see his errection, jimin licking his lips as he looks at it across the stream. cocking his eyebrows at him in question.

i think the last one to bed the reader is yoongi- probably soon after her wedding and the first time she and him are alone together without any of the others. yoongi is particularly reserved and i picture him kissing the Backs of her hands and then each of her fingers in the candlelight and slowly grabbing at the ribbons on her dress. and he’s angry- angry that he couldn’t taste her before the king had a chance.  though he’s gone away and left her here again. left her to be lonely and left her all for them. and yoongi won’t miss his chance this time. 

“its time for you to get ready for bed my queen- let me help you” and he undresses her so so slowly and carefully and then sits her back and slowly enters her. treats her like a husband should on her wedding night, gentle and at her pace. so loving and slow and full of needy breaths and aching touches.  thats the first time it’s making love with any of you- because yoongi loved her right from the begining.

gods, danyok is getting messier and messier by the second. not in a necessarily "oh i don't like them anymore" way, just in a "oh, these two are a lil fucked up" way. yok's reaction to dan killing someone is certainly... something. whether he figured it out already when dan told him he did something bad or realized the extent of it just now, the reaction feels weird to me either way. and the "i know a good cop" from the teaser really took me out (also, as much as i appreciate sean going acab right away, he has been the mouthpiece for irrationality and emotional subjectivity this entire time, so i hope this is not one of those times from the narrative standpoint). i don't know how yok is going to introduce dan to the gang (imagine if gram figures out that he is the guy yok was talking about back when they were discussing their crushes tho? that would be kind of cute) and i don't know if dan killed sean's father or just someone either, but to me, the effect as a parallel is just as strong (as in, even if it is someone who was just in a similar situation to sean's father, it has a powerful effect nonetheless).

as for the whole gram situation, i am starting to maybe believe that we are getting grameugene. at this stage, i am unsure of how we would get a poly relationship because i feel like eugene is so over black. and even though white's behavior was the last nail in the coffin, which she will no doubt find out about eventually, i still feel like looking back, black treated her like shit, and she still wouldn't want to resume a relationship. maybe just my read on it tho. and as for gramblack and grameugene, i feel like i am starting to go out of my way and directly against gram's previous characterization to explain his actions and words in the bounds of him liking black. sometimes the obvious answer is the right one, and looking back at everything we've seen, i can make up an explanation for all the scenes we thought of as gram liking black being something else easier than i can make up an explanation for all the scenes where the most direct response would be that gram likes eugene being something else. Kissing Prompt: On the sidewalk/Celebration John/Kaidan

Whew...these boys took this and RAN with it lol. Got kind of serious but I think it turned out okay. Thanks for the ask!

New Year’s Eve 2187

For the first time since the Reapers had been defeated, the city had been cleared of much of the debris, though still a long way to go towards being rebuilt. But on the heals of such an accomplishment, London was in full celebratory mode. Maybe Shepard and Kaidan were too. 

John was getting out of the hospital, finally able to go home. It wasn’t without cost; he’d lost his leg and had a long road of recovery ahead. 

Kaidan stepped out of the skycab and walked inside the hospital to fill out the paperwork and bring him home. He’d brought a bag of clothes for John to change into, though they probably wouldn’t fit well. He’s lost so much weight and muscle tone. 

He’d been here every day through John’s recovery and as much as possible when he began his physical therapy, wanting to know what to do once they were back at the apartment. Frustration was a constant for both of them during this time. The once fun-loving, flirty Shepard was gone, being replaced by a man who was serious and taciturn. Kaidan missed the former and was determined to get him back, though he loved John no matter what. They were together, which meant everything to Kaidan. They almost didn’t get the chance. 

“Hello, Major Alenko.” 

He nodded at the nurse, “How’re you doing, Judy?”

“Today is a good day, sir. Ready for New Year’s. It’s about time for a celebration, if you ask me.” 

Unable to argue with the sentiment, he told her, “Enjoy yourself and be careful, okay?” 

A bright smile was his response, “I will, sir. You do the same. Will you be going to watch the fireworks? It will be soon, I think, nearing dark now.” 

“No, I don’t think so.” 

His words were met with a look of understanding. John was not likely to want to be in a crowd and Kaidan was uncomfortable in them in any case. Suited them both to stay in. Signing the papers she’d placed on the counter, he turned and walked down the hallway towards the wing where John was. His heartbeat sped up in anticipation; he thought this day would never come. 

As he neared John’s room, he heard a commotion; then John’s voice. An angry voice. “I can damn well get to the door on my own!” 

“Sir, we can’t allow you to walk to the door. It’s our poli--” 

“Fuck your policy.” A loud clattering sound accompanied his words, as if he’d thrown his cane across the room. 

Kaidan quickened his pace. Maybe he could calm John and rescue the nurse, who was probably at the end of her rope. Or in fear of her life. 

He stepped into the room, reading the situation in a glance. John leaning against the side of the bed in his hospital gown, the back open from the neck down, feet flat on the floor. The cane was lying against the wall across from him. Even from here, Kaidan could see the strain on his body, shaking slightly. 

The young nurse stood behind the chair, tendrils of hair having escaped from her bun and were now clinging to her face which was bright red. It didn’t appear to be from embarrassment, either. Her hands clenched the handles, white-knuckled, but she stood her ground, a look of dogged determination on her face. She was braver than many before her. Kaidan had lost count of the nurses John had run off.

He let the door shut behind him with a whoosh, quiet but enough to grab the attention of them both. Two pairs of eyes turned to focus on the intrusion. He saw relief in the nurse’s emerald green eyes, stubborn sullenness in blue eyes currently the color of a storm tossed sea. He’d hoped today would be a celebration of their own with John finally coming home. Biting back a sigh of frustration, he nodded at the nurse to leave. She huffed but left them alone. 

Setting the bag on the bed behind John, he settled next to him. “Hey, there.” 

“Don’t even start. You’re going to be as bad - or even worse - than she was.” 

He refused to take the bait. “Am I?” 

John opened his mouth, then closed it again, body relaxing in defeat. “Sorry, Kaidan. I just...I want to leave on my own steam, you know?” 

Oh, he did but some rules were in place for a reason. “How about a compromise?” 

John turned to him, brows furrowed over clearing blue eyes, “What kind of compromise?” 

He grabbed the bag, took out John’s clothes and shoved them in his hands. “Get dressed.” 

Stubborn as he could be, John knew when Kaidan had made up his mind there was no pushing. He shuffled to the wheelchair, unable to stand, and sat down in it to slide his legs into the pants, then pulled off his gown and pulled the tee over his head. Once he was dressed, he remained still, winded. 

Looking up at Kaidan, expecting to see a smirk, he was surprised to find him not even paying attention. He was packing things into the bag, minus the hospital gown. “Thought you’d want to keep the gown. You know, easy access.” 

A strangled sound followed his statement. Kaidan finally turned, tips of his ears pink, brown eyes shiny. “Well, I could always throw it in there if you’ll miss it so much.” 

“Hell, no.” The response as emphatic. Kaidan smiled and went back to packing. “You planned this, didn’t you?” 

“To take you home? John, I’ve been planning this since the day the Normandy limped back to earth and I knew you were alive.” 

Waving his hand dismissively, John soon realized Kaidan couldn’t even see him. “No. I mean me dressing myself and getting winded, so I’d realize I needed the wheelchair.”  

Pausing in the act of packing, Kaidan turned to him. John saw his eyebrow game was strong, thick dark brows furrowed down, “No. I was going to ask you to ride in it to the front doors, then I’d just let you go out on your own steam.” 

“Oh.” 

Looking around the bed and the tables nearby, Kaidan checked to make sure he’d gathered everything. He walked over and picked up John’s cane and handed it to him with a rueful smile. The doctors and nurses had sent him home yesterday with all the supplies they thought he could possibly need amd instructions to call if they ran into a situation where they needed help. 

Zipping the bag shut, he turned. John remained in the chair, gazing at him. "What?" 

The solemn blue eyes looked away and Shepard spoke softly, an apology tumbling from his lips, "Im sorry for being such an ass. You deserve better, Kaidan."

Kaidan walked over, squatting down so they were eye level. He cupped John’s cheek, gently turning his head back to face him. "Listen to me," he paused, taking a breath to calm his emotions as his words sounded harsh even to his own ears. "There is no where else I’d rather be than right here, with you. Okay?" 

John nodded but Kaidan wasn’t convinced he believed it. He'd have to prove it then. He leaned forward but the moment was lost as the head nurse came in, a look of extreme agitation mixed with bullheaded determination on her face. She was followed by the younger one who'd been arguing with John. Kaidan stood up. He just wanted to get John hime and not have any more delays. 

"We're ready to go." His hand remained on the handle of the wheelchair, possessive. "I'll wheel him out and both of you," he looked from one to the other, "can follow us to make sure we're following proper procedure." He didn't mention his plan. 

John started to protest, "But Kaidan, you-"

"Have everything under control," he winked at John out of sight of the nurses. Shepard settled back into the chair. 

"Well, okay then." The head nurse turned to the younger one, "Michele, just follow and assist if needed," and she walk out if the room. 

Kaidan began to push the wheelchair out the door and had to bite back a groan of frustration when John motioned for him to stop. What reason could there possibly be not to just keep going? 

“It’s Michele, right?” The nurse nodded, a bit apprehensive, for which Kaidan couldn’t blame her. “I just wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier. There was no reason for me to be such an asshole when you were just doing your job. I’m sorry.” 

Michele blushed to the roots of her bright red hair but nodded at the end of the speech. She seemed tongue tied and when no words followed his apology, John did what he’d always been so damn good at; he gave her a winning smile, a wink from those impossibly blue eyes and thanked her for taking care of him. 

“Let’s go, Kaidan. I’m ready.” 

Wasting no time to follow this order, Kaidan pushed him out the door Michele was currently holding open and down the corridor, bag and cane in his lap. The young nurse followed closely behind but where she’d been stubborn and determined to make John adhere to protocol, now she just walked amiably beside them, though kept her eyes trained on what was going on around them instead. Kaidan paused, brought up his omni-tool, winked at John when he turned to him with a questioning look, and resumed his pace. Over the loud speaker came a voice, “Michele, please come to the nurse’s station.” 

The young nurse glanced up in surprise, then over at the two of them, then back down the hall. Indecision written on her face, she was clearly unsure of what to do. 

“Go ahead, I can keep Commander Shepard under control to the front of the building. I promise he won’t get away.” 

Not so easily swayed, she questioned him, “Are you sure? I’m supposed to keep make sure you get to the skycab. I have my orders.” She straightened up with the importance of her job. 

Oozing reassurance, he told her, “You do and you’re right to question us but we also know sometimes new orders override the previous ones.” 

John spoke up, “He’s right. It looks like you’re receiving new orders and we wouldn’t want you to be derelict in your duties by assisting us when you have more important things to do.” 

She gazed at each of them in turn, then nodded. “You’re right. Just...be careful and send for me - or an orderly - if you need assistance.” Before they could respond, she turned and all but ran to the nurse’s station. Kaidan felt a twinge of guilt for deceiving the poor girl but John was his first priority and he’d made him a promise. 

Before they arrived at the door, Kaidan stopped and put the locks on the wheels so the chair wouldn’t move. He went around front, looked over John’s head down the hall, then glanced at him and nodded. John rose, a bit unsteady at first, but got his bearings quickly. Placing the cane on the floor, he moved forward, one slow step at a time until he was sure of himself. 

Without a backward glance, he strode out the door as the Commander Shepard and got inside the skycab waiting for them with Kaidan behind him to help only in case he stumbled. 

The ride was quiet, introspective. Kaidan watched as he took in the state of London on the way to the apartment. Much of it was making a comeback with restaurants, bars, markets and stores; more of them popping up every day. Yet, he didn’t comment, just observed. 

The skycab pulled up to their apartment, a single story and nondescript building. Other apartments had been built around it, much the same as theirs. It was rather drab but Kaidan thought the act of just bringing John home gave it more color, more character. Shepard struggled to get out by himself and finally accepted Kaidan’s help reluctantly when he couldn’t manage on his own. The skycab took off and they remained on the sidewalk, looking at their first place as a couple. 

He wrapped an arm around John’s waist, moving in close instead of pulling him over. “So, what do you think?” 

“This is it, huh? Our place?”

A rush of emotion swept over Kaidan at those words - our place. Kaidan had never dared hope after the run for the beam this day would come to be. Yet, it had and here they were. “Yeah...our place.” 

They heard explosions and both of them tensed, then offering nervous chuckles when they realized it was just fireworks going off in the distance. The bursts of light arced into the sky, a cascading kaleidoscope of colors and patterns against a black backdrop. Even the stars in the sky were muted.  

“Happy New Year’s, John.” 

“Happy New Year’s, Kaidan.” Shepard turned, gazing intently at Kaidan. “To everything new in our lives, starting this day.” 

“Yeah...to everything new.” 

Kaidan leaned in, capturing John’s mouth with his for their first kiss in their first real home. Together.
