Just saw the thousandth "Rook isn’t a better person than Solas, they have no right to judge him" argument (without even acknowledging the whole Titans fiasco at all, of course, business as usual), and while I can mostly look the other way when I see opinions that oppose mine (or try to start a polite debate if I’m feeling particularly brave, which I usually don't), this one was so vitriolic that it actually hit me.
I don’t want to go too deep into the Rook vs. Solas moral debate, because if you don’t see how genocide automatically puts your favorite character a few steps down on the morality ladder compared to the poor bastard who maybe used to be a thief or a murderer, then it’s already a moot point. But seriously – why do people hate their own Rooks so much?
I understand not fully clicking with them; I had that issue with my Inquisitor at first, when the game gave me dialogue option after dialogue option that just wasn’t what I wanted to say. But if anything, the Inquisitor’s case taught me that I shouldn’t go into an RPG expecting it to bend to my every whim and desire. I should design my character around the game, not the other way around. And, wonder of wonders, with that mindset, I came to like – and even love – my Inquisitor. (Sure, the ten years I spent filling in the gaps probably helped too, but still.)
So why doesn’t Rook get the same grace from people? Even if you blame them for making things worse by disturbing the ritual with that pillar (again, without acknowledging that Solas is the one who started the ritual in the first place, with zero regard for construction site safety, lol), how come you can’t find it in yourself to look for something redeemable in a character who’s obviously new at this and straining to satisfy the expectations put on them? Someone you’ve spent forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, or more hours with? Whose biggest widespread criticism is literally that they’re too kind?
What is so hateable about this character? And why is it always the same group of people yelling the loudest?
I’m genuinely curious, if anyone has any insight or ideas – what’s behind all of this?

Bro… the best day of their lives and the worst night they ever experienced happening back to back… pain and beauty being so closely interlinked. The push that day, night, and the outcome gave Sammie to pursue music. Sammie having nightmares for the rest of his life, well into his graying years, but never regretting the day he had at the Juke Joint.
Stack and Mary finally being able to be happy together, at the cost of the freedom of their spirits. Joy and community that can be found within dreadful circumstances. I Lied to You, a song about the conflict and separation between father and son that is transformed into communal connection. The song sung at the catalyst night, and that cements Sammie’s path as a musician. Pain that is turned into art that turns into freedom.
Delta Slim transitioning from a traumatic recollection into an improvised song as he mourns a dear friend who was lynched. That maybe in a better world art shouldn’t have to be made out of suffering, nor suffering transformed into art, but with the history that exists and the world we live in, what other choice is there?
#these are kinda some disorganized thoughts that I had on the nature of art as it’s shown through the movie#but it’s a really incredible display of how pain can be twisted into a point of connection for a people#it’s a sign of resilience to do so—even though it’s awful that people have to do it#but in particular for me was Delta Slim turning from mourning to singing—because what else is there to do?#he’s already fallen to pieces. he drinks heavily (self medicating). what else can he do but use his pain?#mourn through his music and artwork. express it externally.#the only other option is to cry. and after years of an unresolved pain… still crying must be exhausting.#so. the day and night of joy and trauma. how one leads to the other which leads to the other#not everyone makes it out of the Juke. it’s only Sammie and Smoke#and Smoke dies soon after#so it’s not as though Coogler is saying that trauma is a unilateral good; no way#but it’s a recognition that pain in some people can be harnessed into something constructive. and that has the power for change#in other people though. pain leads to destruction. destruction of the self and others#seen in. nearly everyone. Delta. Smoke and Stack (in their own ways). Annie and Mary and Pearline and let’s be honest: Remmick#everyone else in the Juke.#it’s a tragic and incredible nuance provided to the role of trauma in forming and maintaining community#sinners#sinners spoilers#sinners 2025#sinners meta#sinners analysis#my post

Rating retro shooter protagonists based on how they handle getting you tampons/pads:
B.J. Blazkowicz - 8/10: He may be a bit old fashioned and he may be a bit square but damn if he won’t look like hell trying to find them. Will easily spend 15-20 minutes comparing what are obviously identical boxes just in case they aren’t, and will probably spend long enough at the store that you end up going out yourself or just ordering them on your phone. Will eventually come home with what you asked for + a whole roasted chicken he picked up on the way out. TNO/TOB/TNC Blazko is mostly the same save for the fact that on the drive home he’s thinking of an insane monologue to give you about how much you mean to him. This keeps happening.
Doomguy - 9/10: Has absolutely no problem with going to multiple places to try and find them, has an EXTREME problem with them being locked up. Will just rip the little door off the shelf and throw it aside before grabbing several armfuls to bring to the counter. 2016/Eternal Slayer however will just cut out the middle man and take the entire shelf, throw the whole thing through the store window and take your brand while leaving the rest for everyone else. The boxes will probably be crushed but it’s fine because he brought like 8 home. You probably didn’t even need to send him to get more because he already had to put in another closet just to hold the fuckoff huge volume that you already have. Unf.
Duke Nukem - 5/10: Mixed bag. Will get them if you ask him to, but he’ll also try and talk you into just free bleeding instead. Not out of laziness, mind you, he just doesn’t see the point when you can just sit on a towel and let it happen. Will arrive at the store and immediately send you a ‘what size pussy you wear’ text followed by the wrong box 6 times before he finally lands on the right one, wherein he will not only buy up the entire stock but will also walk in the back to try and get more. Will come home with a crate of menstrual supplies and a box of cigars to share, will have to go back out immediately after because his stupid ass also forgot to pick up food. WILL return with dinner and mystery steroids for your cramps.
Caleb - ?/10: He’s just going to insist that you free bleed and he WILL get weird about it. Not threatening weird, but something much worse. Just get them yourself because he won’t complain, he’ll just stand there giving you a fluoride stare. More disappointed when it ends than when it begins.
Lo Wang - 0/10: You’d be better off asking the neighbor down the road for multiple reasons.
Postal Dude (P1) - 4/10: Another advocate of free bleeding but that’s down to the fact that he thinks that anything you put up there could infect you with the hate plague and doesn’t want to have to see you turn evil. The one most willing to clean the blood up out of all of the Free Bleed committee and arguably the one most likely to stay by your side like a dog until it’s over. Bonus point for the fact that he has a dog.
Gordon Freeman - 8/10: Steals you some from the Black Mesa storage facility while he’s stealing himself a hoard so he doesn’t have to risk interacting with Magnusson for any reason that isn’t immediately vital. Will also steal you a stack of MREs from the same facility (all the scientists do it because 90% of the time that shit just gets left to gather dust).
Sam “Serious Sam” Stone - 11/10: Completely skips the store and just goes back in time to get you some Victorian Opium And Nightshade Tampons. LostInTheSauce.png.

Lucanis Dellamorte will do the First Talon job until a) Caterina dies (won't be that long!) and b) he's satisfied there are good Crows to do the work, keep the family together and protect Antiva (might take a little longer)
and then he's absolutely taking early 'retirement' to travel and live the domestic life of his dreams
He's buying a very nice house with a garden in Treviso and frankly I would not be surprised if he opens a coffee house/restaurant. I mean it'll definitely be a front for Crow business too, but it will be run to a STANDARD with plenty of in person attention from its owner. If he doesn't have children of his own he'll probably be happy to mentor a fledging or two - but for other houses, not for Dellamorte.
He's off to Minrathous to assist in cases with Neve, off to Arlathan to guard Bellara in her hunt for artefacts. Touring Nevarra City with Emmrich, and going on expeditions to dwarven settlements with Taash and Harding - or taking monster hunting jobs with Davrin and Assan and getting extremely inebriated after. Every year, Taash will have a newly tailored Crow cloak delivered. He'll take jobs in Rivain to thank Isabela for smuggling supplies to the Crows, and return to the Anderfels more than once to quietly see that Mila has all she needs growing up.
If romanced, he'll get married. They'll honeymoon in Orlais and go to see the wyverns, and get recipe ideas from the best that remain in Val Royeaux. It'll never be the same between he and Illario, but he won't give up - and perhaps one day, with some friends of his own and a new purpose, his cousin will mature into something other than his poor choices.
And he'll never stop looking for answers in regards to him and Spite. He'll be at peace whether he finds them or not, but he'll always look for a safe way to give the spirit that helped save his life his freedom back. I like to think that one day they'll find a way, and in the Treviso night sky, people will look up and swear they saw a great violet Crow sweeping across the stars.

Small lore bits
Descendants of Irene have revamped lore and are far more important to the story
Levin has abilities, but they aren't unlocked completely until some time after the time skip
I'm thinking of giving him 2-3 abilities: Shield Construction (due to parentage and lore 👀), water manipulation/waterbending, and lightning manipulation (I'm thinking of having him gain it from being struck by lightning ((ALSO a fun reference for how RARE it is for players to get struck by lightning and since DOI will have an actual connection to Irene[player], they get the ups and downs of it)))
After the O'Khasis/Scaleswind VS Phoenix Drop War, all the bodies that had been killed/drowned in the ocean slowly turned into drowned (mob).
The drowned (plus other magical events-areas) end up creating tridents
Yeah, Levin is getting a trident, and he's gonna be channeling the oceans/water/lightning through it (channeling enchantment :)). He plus Malachi will garner quite the reputation... which will also be another reason why Trall [the bandit Michi sold Levin, Malachi, and Zoey too] and others would be interested in them ((another callback to why Irene kept her family a secret))
Levin, trying to protect the last bits of the village as well as his family, ends up flooding parts of Phoenix Drop to cut off intruders and bandits.
With the extra water plus the swamp/Mangrove swamp of the burned down Meteli, the waterways become more dangerous but also extremely helpful
More slimes, frogs, drowned, other water mobs allow for more items to trade, and because Malachi is a trader as well as a monster hunter, it's an added bonus/trade boost. (These bois are doing their BEST to provide for the village ((I just realized I might be projecting onto them by making these children take care of their family as much as they can and having to grow up quicker-more serious oop-)))
That's all for right now. I just wanted to get it down while it's fresh. I'll have to make a Malachi and Levin rewrite post soon, so keep an eye out for that! :D

MiqoMarch Day 26 - Faith
Though she is constantly reminded of her status being blessed by the goddess- Hydaelyn's chosen, as they called it - Arsay maintained a reluctance to allow her fate to be subject to the will of any higher being. Instead it is her friends, her family, whom Arsay puts her absolute faith in. Their bond is the greater gift by far.

I don’t know if it’s because my mutuals are lovely peoples but I swear I went to Reddit for a quick sec and all I saw was Bella hate and TLOU hate and it was disgusting. I come back to Tumblr feed is filled with “I loved the dynamic they created with…” and “the stalkers were scarier than the game…” and “Dina was great casting…” all positive stuff. I’m not saying criticism isn’t valid! Everyone is entitled to their opinion! However that being said all I’m seeing negative elsewhere is people just being gross and overly offensive and saying the producers are woke”. Just petty bullshit. So thank u Tumblr peeps for being more positive or constructive with criticism. That’s why I like being here.

So, I won't be formatting every comic like this. Every one afterwards will just have important sentences over the drawn scenes.

When naming the members of the Théâtre des Vampires, Armand introduces Louis and Claudia to their “playwright in residence”, one Samuel Barclay (“Sam. Call me Sam.”). This is almost certainly a reference to Samuel Barclay Beckett, the famous modernist writer, theatre director and playwright. The style of theatre that Beckett was instrumental in creating, the so-called Theatre of the Absurd, with its focus on existentialism and tragicomic tones, shares some notable characteristics with the plays shown at the Théâtre des Vampires; Louis’ complaint that “They were weird! And always ended in death or some kind of cruel, barely motivated violence.” feels affectionately pointed. Beckett’s most famous work, Waiting for Godot, has also been confirmed by a reviewer to appear in the show (“Santiago fuming about the lack of action in a vampiric version of Waiting for Godot”). The choice of name and the inclusion of a play that was written during this period of Louis and Armand’s lives (“The Paris Albums, 1946-1949.”) but did not premiere until 1953, could suggest that Sam is meant to be the man himself.
This is not the first time the show has played with the idea that a famous writer may have been a vampire, however, unlike Emily Dickinson, Beckett was alive and working in Paris until his death in 1989. Considering the ending of the show’s source material, it seems unlikely that Sam will live that long unless he independently parts ways with the Théâtre des Vampires. It is also notable that, if intended to be a cameo, Sam has been quite underplayed compared to historical figures like Jelly Roll Morton and Jean-Paul Sartre. Though the supposed playwright for the company, Sam is shown selling tickets for the performance and collecting laundry rather than, say, giving notes on that night’s performance. Sam is presented as apart from the other members of the coven; absent during their prank on Louis and Claudia, not joining in the ensuing greetings, and leaving during the introductions. This framing of the character suggests that he is therefore not intended to be the real Beckett. Perhaps then the name was chosen by Sam himself in an attempt to emulate a writer he admires. Perhaps it is meant to further emphasise the strangeness of the supposed playwright for the company having the least interaction with its members, while only being shown to perform menial tasks. Or perhaps this is simply a reference made by a team of writers with backgrounds in theatre.

baru cormorant seems to me to be a series that suffers miserably for me having read machineries of empire first. unfortunately everything BC is doing strikes me as something MoE did better and more believably and with much a greater and more grounded eye for how systems, complex system interaction, and oppression like. work
#red rambles#also i don't like the writing very much so I'm not having as much fun with it as i did with MoE#but YHL straight up writes with the exact approach and methodology *i* write - the narrative frame is extremely close. the lines are punchy#the description is sparse the info we are delivered is typically in short wacky one-off chunks that tell us not only something about the#world but something about the narrator who is also the main character whose head we're in#the timing. so on and so forth#someone told me that seth dickinson is transfem but i cant find her (?) pronouns anywhere so if anyone knows where to see them i'd#appreciate a link if only to complain that i don't like her (?) writing that much in comparison because it is a lot less.... rewardingly#entertaining i suppose. when compared to the way yoon ha lee structures his. there are much fewer twists#and of course the major huge twist of Baru Cormorant was hidden from the reader which i just think is *bad form* when it comes to intrigue!#when yhl will lay all the moving pieces of the plot before you openly and say 'hey. isn't that a funny side tangent. anyway look to your#left; something is exploding' and then as it keeps unfolding he goes 'and here in small scale is how it is being used! isn't that#interesting to see how these pieces move? now look to your right; something is exploding' and then at the very end it all comes perfectly#together#the way i felt around the middle/end of Raven Strategem when i understood the spy network the first time is something that BC cannot do#you aren't trusted with the pieces and you don't get to play the game of understanding that you weren't *told* literally everything#i'm reading monster baru cormorant today as i go about my errands and I kinda don't think it's what i want because i want it to be the kind#of working awful poisoned bloodstained empire as the hexarchate and i want it to be a complex contradictory overlapping system like the#hexarchate's army and i want the banal cruelty of perfectly decent people condemning strangers to awful awful bloody deaths because they're#'not like us' instead of the petrified horror *everyone* has of the Social Contagion Agents because i just do not BUY the construction of#dickinson's Social Hygiene Offices and their place in the world#but i cant just read the MoE books any more. i'll get bored. i'm already kind of bored of reading them over and over
