Dear Diary, so many things happened today! Mummy had a friend over and I got to meet her. Her name was Maliah and she had the prettiest purple eyes! I had never seen anything like them.

Robbie also asked me what kelp was and I had never heard of it before. We are going to investigate together, very soon actually! I can’t wait!!

Then Daddy took me and Robbie for a walk to look for treasures and we went exploring the beach. It was the best thing ever!

We came across a cave and Daddy asked us if we wanted to explore! I said yes! Robbie seemed a bit cared, so I held his hand all the way.

We found lots of treasure and shells and even some weird green plant.

Detective Comics #1082 featured a SURPRISE Cass appearance, but a welcome one always to have. So here are my thoughts on the Cass's showing in that.

I mean every issue of Ram V's Detective Comics is a treat, and this one is no different (even with the guest star that I just LOVE to talk daily about).

Like there are layers to the tale he weaves that not only continue threads from past Batman writers but does his own thing.

Weaving and spinning a story that feels like a natural progression of what was already told by others.

Bruce feels human here than say other comics which "try" to tell it through his thoughts, but man the artist talents have been selling this struggle.

Why the "reward" is all the more "rewarding" because Ram V puts in this "doubt" in prior earlier stories written that, there's that chance Bruce might lose.

I mean we know he won't, but it's that "DOUBT" planted throughout. It makes Bruce relatable.

Speaking of rewards. The B-plot returns us back to Gotham as the Question continues her case as again we see what an Orgham-run Gotham City is like.

How their Reality Machine has wiped the memory of the bat out. HOWEVER…

"The Batman YET haunts Gotham."

I honestly was expecting Jean-Paul (given he was rocking the AzBats suit when we last left him) but to see Cass the OTHER being Ram V continuing the crusade of the bat?

SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I mean logically, I wonder where everyone else is. Dick. Babs. Jim. I know eventually we'll see. But to see Cass still as we lost saw her in 2023 fighting the Orgham and keeping the SYMBOL alive in Gotham?

I mean there's a certain POETRY at hand here as we have two bat suits that basically filled in for Bruce when he was away. Either due to being broken in Knightfall (Jean-Paul)--

--or trying via means as Bruce Wayne to get the government to lift Gotham from being labeled a "No Man's Land" (Cass's costume which Helena Bertinelli used to continue Bruce's crusade).

It's so SATISFYING to see these elements incorporated here. Just now, it's Cass continuing the crusade and making sure Gotham REMEMBERS the bat.

Because it is a characteristic trait that other than Bruce, Cass is one of the few who just understands WHY the bat symbol carries so much.

This exact DRIVE within her, is why she is just BUILT different than most folk in Gotham. Heck Renee struggles with the Realty Machine in places in her story.

Trying to remember what was lost.

Yet, we see Cass like she was ripped from when Jorge Corona drew her in Batgirls (very nicely done there whoever drew her like that). As described in the very comic, "a wraith."

It's that answer Cass gives Renee on HOW she's able to resist. The answer again showcases how Bruce/Cass are just so similar. People wonder why Cass is Bruce's heir to being to him as Batman?

Ram V is giving that answer to modern readers.

This "answer" is not new, I find it akin to what Andersen Gabrych came to in his run of Batgirl Vol. 1. Just not as restricting of characterization with Ben Turner who pointed this fact out, and kneeling.

That Cass was going down this path after taking a life, and saying NO to a life of being a killer. That she chose to use the tools forced onto her to become something else.

I think if we ever get time to see the "lost" era of years when Cass rejected her father and hadn't met Barbara Gordon.

I think Ram V would be a fascinating writer to do this. Will he? Oh, I wish! This year would be PERFECT for it for sure.

It's a "gap" that I feel a writer SHOULD farm. Cause I really don't want Gabrych being the only OTHER than Kelly Puckett himself. I feel the period is ripe to showcase how "bat" she was before becoming one.

Though ironically, it isn't lost upon anyone seeing the heir to Vic Sage and well the daughter of a certain someone.

Again, the themes and poetry of what was told in the past. Just with new layers put in. This "interlude" makes me hunger for a Question tale with Renee and Cass being teaching her like Shiva taught Vic.

If not, well we got that here. Somewhere. Someplace both Vic and Shiva smirked at what occurred in this issue. Renee/Cass doing both proud.

I could gush all day and night on this issue. This was something that was TRULY needed. Or at least told again. To remind folks why Cass is different than Jason, Steph, Tim, Duke, and even Damian.

This issue felt like a 25th-anniversary gift Ram V gave to Cass fans. Even though we have 0 official stuff (we could use some DC).

Cass's portion of Tec #1082 felt like a celebration of why the character has lingered so long.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Denmark’s prime minister proclaimed Frederik X as king on Sunday after his mother Queen Margrethe II formally signed her abdication, with massive crowds turning out to rejoice in the throne passing from a beloved monarch to her popular son.

Margrethe, 83, is the first Danish monarch to voluntarily relinquish the throne in nearly 900 years.

Many thousands of people gathered outside the palace where the royal succession was taking place, the mood jubilant as the Nordic nation experienced its first royal succession in more than a half-century, and one not caused by the death of a monarch.

Wearing a magenta outfit, Margrethe signed her abdication during a meeting with the Danish Cabinet at the Christiansborg Palace, a vast complex in Copenhagen that houses the Royal Reception Rooms and Royal Stables as well as the Danish Parliament, the prime minister’s office, and the Supreme Court.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen next proclaimed Frederik king from the balcony of the palace before thousands of people — subjects of a kingdom where the trappings of royalty are mostly symbolic in today’s modern era of constitutional democracy.

Frederiksen read the proclamation three times, which is the tradition, as Frederik stood beside her wearing a ceremonial military uniform adorned with medals.

He was then joined on the balcony by new Queen Mary and the couple’s four children, and the crowd spontaneously sang the national anthem.

“My hope is to become a unifying king of tomorrow,” Frederik said. “It is a task I have approached all my life.”

“I want to return the trust I meet. I need trust from my beloved wife, you and that which is greater than us,” the new king said.

Frederik then kissed Mary and another great cheer rose from the crowd.

The abdication document was earlier presented to Margrethe as she sat at a massive table covered in red cloth around which royals and members of the Danish government were seated.

Frederik sat beside her.

After signing it, Margrethe rose and gestured to Frederik to take her place.

“God save the king,” she said as she left the room.

The abdication leaves Denmark with two queens: Margrethe keeps her title, while Frederik’s Australian-born wife becomes Queen Mary.

Frederik and Mary’s eldest son Christian, 18, has become crown prince and heir to the throne.

Christian handed Margrethe her walking stick as she departed from her abdication ceremony.

Citing health issues, Margrethe announced on New Year’s Eve that she would step down, stunning a nation that had expected her to live out her days on the throne, as is tradition in the Danish monarchy.

Margrethe underwent major back surgery last February and didn’t return to work until April.

Even the prime minister was unaware of the queen’s intentions until right before the announcement.

Margrethe had informed Frederik and his younger brother Joachim just three days earlier, the Berlingske newspaper wrote, citing the royal palace.

People from across Denmark gathered outside parliament, with many swarming streets decorated with red-and-white Danish flags.

Several shops hung photos of Margrethe and Frederik, while city buses were adorned with smaller Danish flags as is customary during royal events.

Many others across the kingdom of nearly 6 million people followed a live television broadcast of the historic event.

The royal guards’ music band made their daily parade through downtown Copenhagen, but wore red jackets, instead of their usual black, to mark major events.

Copenhagen resident Rene Jensen, wearing a replica of a royal robe and a bejeweled purple crown on his head, said that he expected Frederik to be “a king for the nation, representing us everywhere.”

The last time a Danish monarch voluntarily resigned was in 1146, when King Erik III Lam stepped down to enter a monastery.

Margrethe abdicated on the same day of January that she ascended the throne following the death of her father, King Frederik IX, on 14 January 1972.

Denmark’s monarchy traces its origins to 10th-century Viking king Gorm the Old, making it the oldest in Europe and one of the oldest in the world.

Today, the royal family’s duties are largely ceremonial.

Australians also turned out on the streets of Copenhagen to celebrate one of their own becoming queen.

“I think it’s good that she’s not from royalty and has a normal Australian background. We can relate more to that, because she’s from a middle-class background, and we are too,” said Judy Langtree, who made the long journey from Brisbane with her daughter to witness the royal event.

A survey — commissioned by Denmark’s public broadcaster DR — published Friday showed that 79% of the 1,037 people polled by the Epinion polling institute said that they believed Frederik was prepared to take the reigns and 83% said they thought his wife Mary was ready to become queen.

The survey margin of error was 3 percentage points, DR said.

Villainess vs Yandere is officially its own genre. I see it everywhere. I can't complain. None of these are very original, but most of them are funny. This one is a little bland though.

Lady Rene comes from a brilliant family. Her brother is a genius and she is a well respected young lady. She's about to become a senior, and a handsome prince is her betrothed. Her life is perfect, but she wants to run away.

Her life is boring. She hates nobles and tea parties. She wants escape by ship and get a real job. All of the snobbery around her is suffocating. Even her perfect fiance seems too perfect. She never sees his bad side or his vulnerable side. She doesn't feel close to anyone, because everyone is so secretive and obsessed with their own reputation.

Rene was a businesswoman in her past life. She was from a modern word, so the old timey sexism and oppressive rules in this world rub her the wrong way. Her new world is inside an otome game called Magic Melt. It was very PG and sweet. Rene was a game Otaku in private. She instantly realizes that Prince Jean is the capture target from that game.

Jean is remarkable. He's worthy of the crown, but he's boring. Rene is afraid of him too, because he's destined to fall in love with the real main character. Rene does not want to stand in his way. He's a royal heir without flaws. No one would go against him if he decided to exile her. She wants to disappear quietly, right after Jean meets her.

Rene will die if she doesn't get away. Rene was the villainess in the original game. The game wasn't very gory, but the villainess always disappears after she causes trouble.

In the original story Jean catches the heroine when she falls out of a tree. Rene literally pushes the prince towards her, but he steps out of the way. The heroine falls on Rene. She hurts her leg in the process and Jean carries her to the infirmary.

Rene hasn't been hiding her feelings very well. Jean knows she doesn't love him. That frustrates him. He's been trying very hard for her sake. He wants to be her perfect fiance. He knows she's lying when she says she loves him, and that pisses him off.

He treats her leg, and then he pushes her down. Jean seems like a stereotypical yandere. Rene would be an excellent Queen. He wants her because she's just as capable as her genius brother. Her fear confuses him, so he finally decides to confront her.

He seduces her...sort of. I didn't expect sex, but there's sex in this. Rene thinks Jean is very good at it, but he mumbles possessive things the whole time. He's quite creepy, and he won't be satisfied until Rene loves him.

Rene is afraid and confused, but I can see where this is going. Jean is going to ignore the heroine, and they will eventually get married.

CHARACTER SUMMARY:

- Narcissa was destined to be a Princess from the day that she was born. She was the third born child, and third daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black. She had been their last opportunity at getting a son, and the heir they needed, but it was not to be. There had been hushed whispers of how this was going to go, with Cygnus being pretty desperate for an heir. The healers had told the Blacks that this absolutely had to be their final pregnancy. Druella could simply not handle the trauma pregnancy put the body through. Reluctantly Cygnus agreed with this, and so Narcissa had been their last chance at a male heir. It did not turn out that way though, and the Blacks ended up with three daughters, and no male heir.

- There was no need for the household to have any concerns though, as Cynus appeared to fall in love instantly, not that Narcissa necessarily saw that love. Neither of her parents were exceptionally loving. In actual fact they were quite distant. But that was okay. For the lack of love she got from them, she didn’t lack anything else. Anything she wanted, lovely Cissa got it. Her father showed her love by spoiling her, and she was certainly never going to say no to anything that he gave her. Narcissa was the baby of their little family, and she certainly took advantage of that.

- One might have expected this to lead to a sense of division amongst the three sisters. But that was not the case. The Black sisters were a little trio from the very start. The love that she didn’t necessarily get from her parents, she got in bucket loads from her sisters. It was not only her sisters that she was close with, but her cousins also. From a young age she’d seen them more as brothers than cousins. The relationships that she cherished as a young child helped Narcissa to grow a deep value of family. There wasn’t a lot Narcissa would not do for her family.

- Narcissa easily made the transition from princess to queen, and she absolutely adored being at Hogwarts. Of course she chose her friends carefully. Her sisters had warned her that people would cozy up to her, wanting to take advantage of their families status. And so, Narcissa ended up with a close-knit group, and she was immensely loyal and loving towards them. But everyone else, they saw the ice cold queen that Narcissa was to become.

- Most of her time at school was spent in the Potions labs. Whilst she was pretty good with her academics, she was pretty exceptional at potions. She knew that she didn’t need to have a career, and that her father and future husband would care financially for her. But Narcissa still wanted to be able to look after herself too, just in case. And so, she decided that she would use her talents in Potions to become an exclusive potioneer. Narcissa was actually pretty picky and choosy about whom she would brew potions for, but that was the entire point of being private and exclusive right? She started up her business in Hogwarts, and it was something she was intending on continuing once she graduated.

- The summer after Andromeda left was when everything changed. Her big sister was gone. She’d betrayed them. And suddenly the weight of restoring the Black name was on her young shoulders. She wasn’t privy to the negotiations, but she knew her father was frantically working behind the scenes to get a betrothal agreed to over the summer. Her heart was on edge the entire summer. She’d never once considered that she would be a pawn in the bigger pureblood society world, but she had suddenly become one. Narcissa was worried about whom she’d end up betrothed to, having mostly decided she would have much preferred a love match. That summer Narcissa had had to quickly come to terms with the fact that that would no longer be happening.

- She eventually ended up betrothed to Lucius Malfoy. She supposed it wasn’t too bad. He was pretty decent, and he was rather handsome. Her sister Bellatrix teased her that she could do far worse. Even though Narcissa wanted to marry for love, she supposed that it did not matter anymore. This was what needed to be done to save her family. And to Narcissa family meant everything, and so she would do whatever it took to make Black Family great.

- Whilst her family, and friends, joined the death eaters, Narcissa was never more than Ally. Of course, She agreed wholeheartedly with the movement. She just had no desire to fight nor take the mark. She was not going to ruin her perfect skin with something so ugly. She also had no desire to take orders from any men, certainly not one she was not intending to marry. Not that she truly took orders from Lucius anyway. But nobody else needed to know that, or try to order her around.

- But then it all fell apart. The Dark Lord was gone, and Narcissa’s world practically fell apart. Luckily she could be a pretty good actress when she needed to be, and she went along with the plan that her future husband had. There was no other option, they were stronger together, and renouncing the dark lord and any participation was better than rotting in Azkaban. Technically she herself had actually had no active participation in the death eaters, but she was still complicit with everything. After all, she would never renounce dedication or loyalty to her family.

- Luckily that never happened, and the life she leads is still relatively comfortable. She supposes she can give thanks to her manipulative and calculating ways for that. Narcissa has always looked out for herself, and what makes her look good. That has certainly helped her maintain a somewhat clean reputation, even if it is not necessarily the full truth. But what people do not know cannot harm them, and she fully intends to keep it that way.

- Narcissa is very much still the Princess that was born into the Black family. Her armour has been a little tarnished, and chipped by the world around her, and the situations that have happened in her life. But, she has come out stronger, taking everything in her stride, determined to be the strong Black heir that her father had so desperately hoped for when she had been born.

Hey all! My name’s Rene and it’s about time I actually introduced myself, huh?

I’m a transgender, neurodivergent writer from the Metro-Detroit area. I love writing fantasy, slipstream, magical realism, and poetry, and I love reading those same genres (if your story has dragons, giants, and/or bug-based characters/races, hmu!) I tend to world build a lot, then pants a plot that takes place in that world. I’m always interested in being tagged in tag games, and if you’d like to be added to my tag list, please let me know!

The Curse of New Royston

Within the borders of the town of New Royston, Connecticut, one’s net worth proportionally affects their physical size. Sometime in the early 2000s, high school sophomore Gio Violett, a 20-foot-tall giant recently recovering from a near-death experience, meets Cricket Collins, an 11-inch-tall freshman who’s been living on his own since his parents left town with the intent to save up enough money to bring him with them. Together, the two of them resolve to try to break the spell over New Royston, but a variety of adversaries, from supernatural forces to the town’s political machines, stand in their way.

Oracle of the Stained Glass Windows

Kilroy, a pacifist hippalektryon, lives with his herd in the area around the Oracle, a great stone hall of unknown origin that magically shifts itself to create wondrous stained glass windows dyed with different types of magic. Kilroy himself is featured in one of these windows jamming his horn into the gut of some unknown, pitch-black creature. One day, an attempt from Kilroy to avoid his violent, prophesied fate goes wrong just as he runs straight into Mar, the creature from the window. Mar helps heal Kilroy’s injury and Kilroy, shocked by his would-be adversary’s kindness, vows to find a way to avoid their mutually-destructive destiny.

But the vast differences between the two of them may just come in handy when its time to confront both of their pasts.

If you're still doing the three sentence prompt: from The Constellation Trilogy, anything reservations Astra and/or Michel might have had about becoming parents before Rene was born? (If you're up for it?)

(Ahh this is such a great prompt that I have so many thoughts on! Thank you!) 

Astra Delacroix has reasons for not wanting a child. One, deny her father the heir he so longs for, the bastard. Two, she isn't sure she would be a good mother. Three, her own mother, though older when it happened, died in childbirth.

She has reasons for knowing she should want a child. Michel wants them, and if she wants to play the role of a good wife so she'll be left to her own devices, then she shouldn't try and prevent it. Michel is, at this point, one of the few people who actually cares about her, though it is not his body that will have to go through the process. It's what women are supposed to want, isn't it? But then, she's never been a normal woman, she supposes.

She has reasons for wanting a child that are her own, though they are, perhaps, complex. She likes the idea of having someone to devote her time to, something to think of and pour her love into. A child could create a deeper bond between her and her husband. She does like children, and their little laughs and their smiles, though she tends to appreciate them more once they get their own personalities. She gets an image of a little boy or a little girl in the garden with her, helping plant seeds for new flowers.

Except, she would have to protect that child from her father.

There are ways, of course, to stop a pregnancy, but here in London when all eyes are on her all the time, that is more difficult to achieve in secret. It is not illegal until the quickening, but the thought of dealing with her father when he found out--and he would--she's not certain she wants to deal with that. She can't avoid Michel's bed too often, or he'll suspect something--not that he would ever force her. Having a conversation about this is out of the question.

When she skips her courses for the third month in a row, it’s no longer a hypothetical. 

She tells Michel, because he’ll ask, eager as he is for a child. It’s odd to discuss such things with a man, when men usually don’t like to hear about it, but Michel is more mature about these matters.

For his part, Michel promptly picks her up in his arms and spins her around, his blue eyes brighter than she's ever seen them. Laughter bubbles up in her chest and bursts out. He really loves her, doesn't he? She can't love him in exactly the same way, but they could be happy, couldn't they? Maybe?

"It's not for certain," she chides, not without fondness, when he sets her down again. "It will be a few more weeks before we know."

"I'm sure it's happening," Michel says, slipping an arm around her waist. "Imagine it, Astra, a little one of our own.”

“I know.” Astra smiles, half excitement and half extreme trepidation. “Perhaps it will be the boy you want.”

The boy my father wants. 

“I’ll be happy either way.” Michel kisses her forehead. “Just as long as you’re both healthy.” 

Michel does want a boy, but she appreciates this difference from her father, who has always hated her for not being a boy. 

When the midwife puts the baby in her arms months later, for a moment, the little boy--Rene, they’ve decided to call him--is only hers. Michel will come in soon, and then Rene will be his too. Her father will come sooner than he ought to, and stake his claim. Any boy of hers, after all, is also his. He’s made that clear, and already, she is afraid. One child is enough to protect. If she can prevent it, there won’t be any others. 

She holds Rene up, pressing her forehead to his, and she makes a vow.

“I will do,” she whispers, tears in her eyes, “whatever I need to do to keep you safe. I promise.” 

Rene falls asleep in her arms, already trusting her.

Historic Gotham: Part Three

Tricorner Armory: The Tricorner Armory was built and used by the Hamilton family for generations as a supply depot for their armaments business. The heir to the family fortune - Catherine Kane (née Hamilton) - inherited the business, which boomed under her guidance. Her husband, Jacob Kane, also used the armory for a time to store equipment while Kane Tower was being renovated. The armory was emptied out when Catherine Kane became police commissioner. Some of the gangs tried to hijack the transport trucks, but the Kanes had hired a very competent security team. Since then, the building has been used by many of Gotham's criminals to conduct illegal deals away from prying eyes.

One of the first deals I ever stopped was at the armory. According to GCPD records, it was about two million dollars' worth of weapons. Not bad for a day's work! - T. D.

GCPD Central: This is the central precinct of the Gotham City Police Department. It houses the detective division -- where Renee Montoya works -- central patrol and allows pre-trial holding for the Gotham City Courthouse. The Bat-Signal used to sit on the rooftop of the building but it was taken down when Catherine Kane became the new police commissioner. Many of the vents and windows I used to sneak in through have been blocked or shut closed, which makes accessing the building much more difficult. Unfortunately, since Jim Gordon's death, corruption seems to have risen in the ranks. One of the main reasons for this was the creation of the Major Crimes Unit, an armored task force dedicated to stopping vigilantes and criminals alike. Officers in this division often abuse their power and are known to take bribes. It's safe to say that cooperation between vigilantes and the GCPD is now officially at an end.

James Gordon Memorial: Originally, this was the Gotham City Police Memorial, where the Wall of Honor and the eternal flame were installed in the 1970s. The plaza was expanded two years ago to add a memorial for commissioner James Gordon, after his death in the line of duty, and the memorial was renamed accordingly. Engraved on the front of the statue is a quote from Jim, reading: "Gotham has called, and we have answered. And we will never abandon her." Even though it's been two years since he passed, the people haven't abandoned Jim either. They still bring flowers to the memorial regularly. Gotham City will be forever in your debt, my friend, and we'll do our best to keep her safe.

Powers Club: Named after the Powers Brothers banking family, the Powers Club occupies the mansion and former residence of the late Gloria Powers. The Powers estate was built in 1864 and has seen many renovations, like the addition of an aviary. Following Gloria's death in 1973, the house was left abandoned for many years, until the stock market boom of the 1980s. The mansion was then transformed into a private-members club that strictly caters to Gotham's elite and is protected by a private security firm. I've attended a few soirees myself, but they always left me feeling nauseated. Perhaps the overabundant taxidermy just got to me. I haven't returned to the Powers Club for a few years now, but I suspect many backroom deals are still being made within the walls of the manor.

Martha Wayne Foundation: The Martha Wayne Foundation was created by my mother a few years before her death. She built that branch of the Wayne Foundation to focus on matters that were important to her: charity programs, education and research grants, the arts, historic preservation, and community development. The company moved to the high-rise office tower it's now located in at the beginning of the 2000s when it outgrew its previous office space. Through the Martha Wayne Foundation, we've been responsible for the restoration of numerous historical sites around Gotham, financed an arts gallery and sponsored at-risk youths to go to university, among many other things.

Managing the Wayne Foundation, and all its branches, has been a lot of work. I don't know how Bruce was always on top of everything, but I'll do my best to continue the work he and his mother started. - D. G.

A False Confession - By Koala (7.5/10)

I wasn't sure if I was going to do this one. The yandere elements are debatable. The emotionally stunted male lead does try to threaten the main girl into a relationship, but he backs down. She also chews him out and calls him a creep for threatening her. He apologizes. Character development. Yay. The plot twist is he's a pretty nice guy, but the handsome prince is not. The prince is also a debatable yandere, because even though he's possessive it is not for romantic reasons.

Renee is an orphan. She became a priestess so she could eat food and survive, because she was a child with no other options. She's not the worst priestess, but she's not very devoted. She doesn't want to kill demons and go to battlefields to heal people. She's perfectly content doing laundry and eating bread.

Unfortunately, she's powerful. Her divine power is off the charts. She is the first potential Saintess in 30 years. The temple immediately starts using her to gain funds for the church. Eventually she gets sent to the battlefield with the nation's prince. The war she's fighting in isn't the main one...but you know...the prince is there so the best healers have to be there. Renee hasn't been to a battlefield before, so she is not having a good time. She didn't even want healing magic. Her childhood stank and now she's a political pawn.

This sucks.

Prince Elvin is suspiciously perfect. Renee doesn't notice how suspicious he is because he's a great actor. Women love him. He's a great heir candidate. He's kind and charming and really trustworthy I promise. He starts flirting with Renee (because she's a suspiciously strong priest that may become a Saintess) and she falls for it. Remember, she's been stuck in a temple since childhood. She's got zero romantic experience, so she's a sucker. She's knows he's a prince and she should know her place, but she gets drunk one night.

She confesses to the wrong guy. This guy. This guy is the Grim Reaper. He's a Duke with a bad attitude, and he maybe killed his older brother, but he feels bad about it. Women don't like him. He's not charming and he's really paranoid. When Renee accidentally confesses he accepts her feelings immediately. He also wants to date her seriously. She is too afraid of him to tell him the truth.

What a god awful start for a relationship.

Duke Cabel is actually capable of being romantic. He knew Renee before the war even started. Him liking her makes sense. He hates the other noble families, because now that he's an heir everybody around him wants his power. When he visits Renee's temple she never talks about money or power. They talk about mundane shit. He loves it. He eats that shit up. Spending time with her makes his annoyance fade away.

Duke Cabel kinda knows his girlfriend (?) likes the prince. He also kinda knows she's afraid of him. He kinda knows everything, but he wants her to give him a chance. He wants to prove that he could totally be a good husband, even though his reputation is in the toilet. He doesn't confront her about her obvious lies. He does yell at her and kinda threaten her...but uh...they're in a war situation. Renee chose a pretty bad time to confess.

The prince becomes a real creep after she gets her Saintess title. Renee isn't really in a relationship with Cabel, so he makes his move. He says she can have an affair with him if her current suitor isn't satisfying her. Gross. He also says really creepy shit about how "the light will soon shine upon them". I think this means he wants to become the perfect couple with her. She is a Saintess that is capable of protecting the country with her holy image. He's a prince with an air tight reputation. She's the best wife candidate, so he wants her. He is weirdly persistent though, and he is definitely going to try and steal her from Cabel. He's even willing to help her learn offensive magic. She only has strong holy magic. She needs a teacher if she wants to defend herself. The creeper is the ideal candidate.

Cabel is a little...um...easily misunderstood? He has temper tantrums alot, when he could solve problems with logic. He could confront the prince and tell him to quit the creeper shit, but the country needs a prince. The Grim Reaper and the Light Prince are both powerful pillars in the army. They have to get along, or that would cause problems for the entire country. Cabel tries to hold his emotions in, but he keeps snapping.

His bullshit pushes Renee away. She cannot trust him. After sixty goddamn chapters she still won't date him for real, and I understand why. Cabel's countless responsibilities are driving him nuts. She doesn't want to become like him. She never even wanted to be a Saintess. When Cabel constantly pressures her about her feelings for the prince she gets overwhelmed. After a ton of bullshit she doesn't have any clear feelings for either of them.

This one is funny because both of the love triangle options aren't great. Cabel is obviously the best option. He genuinely loves her. Sometimes he can be super sweet, but he's also a domineering general that thinks his wife shouldn't talk to other men. He completely loses his shit for like half a chapter when she hides the fact that she had -a conversation- with the prince. I know she's going to choose Cabel because Elvin sucks, but my god Cabel has so many problems. The man makes everything a problem. He was raised in an ultra toxic environment but still sometimes the stuff he says in insane. Also he totally did try to force Renee into a relationship when she was vulnerable. So messy. What the heck. Why are all the men in this so manipulative???
