Clearing out my room and just found this.

I used to go to a small boarding school where I didn't really have any friends (long story short I got sent there because my parents didn't like my old friends). I'm autistic and at the time hadn't figured out how to mask pretty much at all, so I was made fun of a lot and I became insanely insular.

There was a Spanish girl there who was kind of really weird but was one of the more popular girls anyway, and she made a lot of effort to make friends with me.

Anyway, we were talking about sexism from parents and how when I was younger, I always wanted to play with robotics and electric kits and all those science based "boy" toys, but never had them.

On the day I left, she finds me and excitedly hands over this huge, clumsily wrapped box. It weighs a ton.

I only opened it when I got home. She had bought a kids electronics kit back in Spain and brought it over by plane to give me as a leaving present, "to make up for what I missed as a kid".
