WIP whenever tf
I've had practically nothing in progress writing-wise in ages. Lost my mojo. But I'm trying to get back into a groove. Not happy with how I've done BLP so far, so I'm rewriting it, from the beginning, and incorporating Miranja's journal into it.
However, this scene from Out of the Ashes came up in a conversation the other day, and OotA technically still counts as a WIP, since it's not finished (dammit - NONE of the parts of Miranja's story is truly finished!). So I figured what the hell. It's been a long time since I had any writing to share, and this is one of the best scenes to really show how Miranja's mind works. Not even any sex here. <gasp!>
Tagging friends whose writing I've been enjoying whilst not producing anything myself. @dirty-bosmer @lillxart @mareenavee @skyrim-forever @thequeenofthewinter @theoneandonlysemla I hope you enjoy it.
It was just about eight o’clock in the evening when they arrived back in Solitude. Before doing anything else, Miranja went directly to Castle Dour.
Tullius was sitting on the bench in the corner by the enchanting table in the foyer. Miranja had gone straight to the war room looking for him, hadn’t found him, had checked his bedroom, still hadn’t found him, and had backtracked to the front door before he finally spoke to her and drew her attention.
“Looking for me, Auxiliary?”
Surprised, Miranja turned toward the sound of his voice and approached him.
“Yes, sir. Here’s the Jagged Crown. Legate Rikke sent me to deliver it to you.” She handed over the Crown, and Tullius took it and turned it in his hands, examining it with interest as he replied.
“Excellent work, soldier. I have to admit, I had my doubts it even existed. Did you run into any trouble?”
Tears filled Miranja’s eyes, but she kept a stiff upper lip. Teldryn’s hand in the middle of her back certainly helped give her fortitude.
“We lost a lot of good men. I hope it was worth it.” Tullius didn’t need to know that she was also talking about the Stormcloaks who died.
“That’s not for you to decide, soldier. I wouldn’t have sent you in the first place if it wasn’t going to be worth it.”
Miranja’s pride stung at those words, while at the same time, her sense of justice was offended. She was the gods-damned Dragonborn, as well as a Thane in this hold, and she had become largely unaccustomed to people talking down to her. And in her opinion, this stupid war wasn’t worth the loss of ANY people, if you got right down to brass tacks. No one should be dying over what she felt was a deeply personal religious issue. It was tantamount in her mind to killing people for what they did in their own bedrooms.
“You seem to forget who you’re speaking to, General. May I be candid with you, sir?”
“By all means, Auxiliary. Let’s hear it.” There was a challenge in his voice and in the way he jutted out his chin.
“With all due respect, sir, I don’t like you very much.”
“Well, that’s fine,” Tullius replied indifferently. He rose and brushed past her to carry the crown into the war room. “I’m not here to win popularity contests. I’m here to keep the Dominion out of Skyrim, and to quell this dissention.”
Miranja followed him, and Teldryn tagged along quietly behind her. “The Dominion is already in Skyrim, whether you want to admit it or not. I pass Thalmor on the road every day taking Stormcloak prisoners to gods-know-where to do gods-know-what to them. The only reason I don’t kill them is that I don’t want a bounty on my own head.”
“Wise choice,” Tullius acknowledged briefly, but added, “Think what you want, Auxiliary. It could be much worse.”
“I’m sure it could. I just want you to know that I think you’re a cold, insensitive…” She hesitated for a moment, searching for a milder word than ‘asshole.’ “…jerk. I wonder if you have a compassionate bone in your body, and if you really care about the people of Skyrim at all.”
Tullius’ face darkened with anger. “Listen up, Auxiliary. I’m here to do a job. Not that it’s any of your damned business, but I have family back in Cyrodiil who I love and miss terribly. I’ve been in Skyrim longer than I ever wanted to be. I’m doing what I’m paid to do, what I believe is for the greater good in the long run. I hope that’s also what you’re doing, why you joined the Legion in the first place.”
“Of course it is,” Miranja glowered back. “But I’d like to think I’m going about it in a more personal, compassionate way. I’m not sitting in a fancy castle ordering everyone else around. I’m on the ground, learning about the people and helping them in more ways than just killing Stormcloaks and getting Imperial soldiers killed.”
“Well, good for you,” Tullius replied with overt sarcasm. “Imperial Generals don’t have that luxury. I didn’t get to my station in life by being compassionate.”
“That may be so, General, but it’s obvious you’re not particularly happy. And there’s no reason to take it out on others. You chose your path.”
“And you chose yours when you joined the Legion, Auxiliary. You can either follow orders or take up residence in the Solitude prison. Which will it be?”
She was sick of being addressed as a title. “My name is Miranja. Miranja Laurentius. And I will follow orders, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.”
“You’re absolutely right, Miranja. We all have to do things we don’t like to bring about things we do like.” He stopped and regarded her with a scrutinizing look, as Miranja stared back with some surprise at his unknowing echoing of her father’s words.
“You said your name was Laurentius?”
“Yes.” She didn’t bother with the ‘sir.’
“Your father was in the Legion, wasn’t he?”
“Yes… sir.” Where was he going with this?
“Ah, yes, I see the resemblance now. I worked with your father briefly in Hammerfell some twenty-five years or more ago. I remember him because he had the same bleeding heart and lack of respect that you do.”
“I’m proud of my father and his work for the underprivileged,” Miranja said, jutting out her chin as Tullius had earlier. “And both my father and I give respect where it’s due. We just feel morally compelled to point out injustice regardless of who’s perpetrating it, and that includes the Empire.”
“Well, his soft heart is what kept him from advancing past Captain. He could have been a general himself, if he’d been tougher.”
“My father and I don’t measure success by titles and wealth. We measure our riches and our station in life by the happiness we create and the love we give and receive. My father retired a happy, peaceful man, and he’s still bringing joy to those around him and earning respect for his deeds.”
“Well, that’s a heartwarming story, Auxiliary, and your opinions are duly noted, but it’s time we got back to business.”
Miranja heaved a resigned sigh and closed her eyes for a moment, then spoke tiredly. “Very well, sir. What’s next?”
“I need someone I can trust to deliver a message of great import to Jarl Balgruuf of Whiterun.”
“Yes, sir.”
“We have it on good authority that Ulfric has raised enough men to attack the city of Whiterun. The Jarl, however, refuses the Legion’s support. This missive should convince him. Be aware, soldier, these documents contain sensitive intelligence for the Jarl’s eyes only.”
Yes, yes, she’d overheard the conversation between Rikke and Tullius when she’d first walked into Castle Dour yesterday. “Of course, General. We may not see eye-to-eye, but we are on the same side, and you can trust me. Balgruuf was one of my first friends when I came to Skyrim. I’ll see this gets delivered.”
“You do that,” Tullius replied, eyeing her thoughtfully. “You’re dismissed.”
Once they were outside, Tel whistled – or tried to, and only partially succeeded with the scarf over his face – and shook his head. “Damn, woman, I can’t believe you spoke to a General like that and didn’t end up in the stockade.”
“Speaking your mind isn’t a crime, Tel, and I didn’t disobey any orders. I asked him for permission to be candid, and I also made sure to include ‘with all due respect.’ My father taught me that. I know when I’m within my rights.”
Teldryn chuckled. “I like a woman with cast iron balls. I bet your dick is bigger than his.”
Miranja grinned and blushed with a mixture of amusement and embarrassment. They were still standing between the door guards, and there was no way the guards hadn’t heard the whole conversation, but they were wisely keeping their mouths shut. She knew the barracks would be abuzz later, though.
“So, what are we going to do with the rest of the evening, boss?”

The loved & the forgotten pt16
Part 15 here
———
Vivienne: *hidden from prying eyes with the ring of khajiiti, only his under cloth and Kaidans cape covering his blood soaked skin as he runs through the bulwark and out into the ash wastes, covering his mouth as he sobs, feeling disgusting from being touched by a man who’d used him so viciously in the past, feeling disgusting for being used at all and daring to find love thinking he’d ever be worthy of it, and feeling disgusting as the blood painting his beautiful body dries and sticks uncomfortably to every crevice it can* I need- I need to be clean I need a bath I need to be clean- *chokes in a mouthful of ash as he hyperventilates as a panic attack wracks his body and the sounds of his loved ones calling his name ring in his ears* I need to be clean in- *coughs and sobs as his foot finds clay amongst the dry earth* wh-what?… *looks up slightly to see a small stream, babbling down the hill from a waterfall tucked away behind rocks and trees* … *walks to it and gasps softly, seeing it forming a large pond, filled with giant lotus leaves and blossoms towering taller than even Kaidan, and the water itself, guarded by the cliff face and towering trees, free from ash fall and so clear he can see goldfish the size of his head swimming beneath its surface* … *drops the invisibility and sheds Kaidans cloak and his under cloth before stepping in and shivering at how cold it is, reasoning it must come from the snow near the Skaal village* f-fuck… *wades his way in and slowly stares down at his reflection rippling in the crystal clear surface… his reflection… his face, stained with blood not his own* …I’m not Vivec… but… who are you?…
*meanwhile*
Kaidan: *standing with the group by the abandoned farmhouse theyd first met captain Veleth at* The suns going down he’s only got my cloak and his spear he must be terrified out of his mind and he’s caked in blood! Predators will hunt him from all the way across the island if they catch a whiff of him!
Taliesin: kaidan he’ll be okay we’ll find him-
Kaidan: There’s werebears on this island! Dragons to- where’s miraak?
Miraak: *suddenly flies overhead on sarhrotaar followed by other dragons loyal to him*
Taliesin: searching by the air…
Veleth: it’s no good us searching as one group. I’ll lead my men past the standing stone and see if he went that way.
Kaidan: *sighs* okay, Tali, you’re with me.
Taliesin: *nods sadly just looking so tired and worried* okay.
Kaidan: hey… *gently strokes his cheek* we’ll find him…
Sero: I’ll stick with inigo and Lucien so they don’t get lost. Solstheim is even more dangerous after dark.
Kaidan: Aye, we’ll meet back at the bulwark in 3 hours. Everyone keep a torch spare in case you get lost so miraak can find you yeah?
Everyone: *nods*
???: If we may, we’d like to help too.
Everyone: *turns to see nerevar & voryn both approaching, dressed in their armour and looking more suited than everyone (except teldryn) to handle the islands elements*
Kaidan: oh I- I don’t mean to ask for your help again sir but, we really need it.
Nerevar: *nods* no no please it’s no burden we… We knew him… when he was Vivec… I know we did not have a chance for proper introductions before and time is of the essence now but, I am Indoril Nerevar and this is my husband, councillor and guard, Voryn Dagoth.
Voryn: *nods* …He’s calming down…
Taliesin: what?
Vivec: oh he’s attempting to scry on him but it’s as if somethings blocking him… he’s calming down then?…
Voryn: …I hear water… search near water.
Kaidan: …Were on a focking island.
Taliesin: *slaps his arm* They’re trying to help!
*an hour later*
Vivienne: *scrubbed himself clean all over, quietly hiding away amongst the lotus leaves and flowers as he hears dragons fly over head, too fragile and tired to fight, too scared to face his friends, too ashamed to face his beloveds, and too cowardly to face the beautiful mer from his memories of vivec* … *looks at the golden hue casting over the rocks and trees, blanketing the ashy landscape in long shadows and a fiery sunset as the sun gleams its last light* … *sighs and turns back to the waterfall and flowers, gently patting the fish as they swim up to him and away again, not noticing the two figures casting a shadow by the stream as they follow it all the way up to his little hiding place…*
Voryn: *gently pulls nerevar behind a rock* stay here, I’ll speak with him-
Nerevar: Ryn… please… *holds his hands gently in his* let me try…
Voryn: … *sighs* okay… I’ll wait here…
Nerevar: *gently kisses his helm where his lips would be and steps out, approaching cautiously trying not to make too much noise, only to audibly gasp as he takes in the vision before him* gods…
Vivienne: *a good few hundred years younger than him, his body smaller and slender in build but still fit and somewhat muscular, like a well toned dancer. His clean white hair falling into damp curls and waves over his shoulders and face, and his blue and gold skin sparkling in the water, looking like a painting come to life as he stands amongst the water flowers* …huh? *ear twitching hearing nerevars awestruck whisper*
Nerevar: *bends down a little, hands up where they can be seen, wanting to appear as friendly and non threatening as possible* Vivienne?…
Vivienne: *spins around, eyes wide as he backs up in a panic, clinging to the wet rocks near the waterfall* g-GO AWAY! L-LEAVE ME ALONE!! *screams and tries to claw his way out of the water but can’t get any grip*
Nerevar: *immediately backs up seeing he’s still in shock* easy, easy shhh shhh… *removes his sword and shield and sets them down* shhh, im a friend-
Vivienne: NO YOURE NOT!! *sobs* shaking his head* You’re here to punish me for what I did to azuras shrine! For what I did to boethias shrine! You’re here because you think I’m Vivec! I’m not Vivec! I’m not a monster I’m not! I’m not him! I wasn’t the one who killed you it wasn’t me! Please just leave me alone I won’t bother anyone I won’t! I won’t ever bother anyone again please- p-plea… *looks up feeling a warm towel suddenly wrap around his shoulders to see nerevar standing in front of him, still in his armour but unarmed* I…
Nerevar: I brought some clothes you can wear… im sure you’d like that more than your partners cape yes?…
Vivienne: *visibly trembling and staring up at him as vivecs memories flash through his mind* v-vivec is sorry…
Nerevar: I… what?… *looks down at him confused*
Vivienne: v-Vivec told me he’s sorry for what h-he did to you- I promise I’m n-not lying- im not crazy or a liar he told me himself in a dream please b-believe me- I don’t want to be sent back to work in a-a b-brothel I don’t want to be in jail again.
Nerevar: shhh shhh. *pats his hair gently seeing another panic attack starting up* you’re not in trouble, you’re not crazy either… I believe you…
Vivienne: wh-why? I sound I-insane it doesn’t sound real I sound like I’m lying…
Voryn: *steps into view holding a warm blanket* I have the clothes ready…
Nerevar: *smiles back at him then looks back at Vivienne* because someone else close to me experienced the exact same thing…

🔥 for nerevar, 🌇 for val, 🎇 for bismuth, 📙 for blade, and/or 🦺 for rosephayne! feel free to pick n choose if ya dont wanna do em all :>
🔥 (fire) - What drives your character in life? Is it a belief? A person? A goal? Whatever it is, what do they want from it and what are they willing to do to get it?
Nerevar is a Dunmer who uses any pronouns, also the Dragonborn.
Knowledge drives them, I think. They have a lot of trauma that their brain has blocked out and they really can't remember much of anything before Teldryn finds her wandering in a place she shouldn't be. (He 100% low-key adopts them and takes them everywhere with him, but if you asked he wouldn't talk about how he feels about them.) They really want to know where they came from, who they are, who their family is... Etc.
Their name, Nerevar, comes from the stories Teldryn has told her about all of that while telling her about Morrowind and Dunmeri history. They thought it was a fitting strong name they aspired to be like one day. (Also, fun fact. In my lore, Teldryn was the Nerevarine instead of an OC of mine, so he's fond of how this kid views all of that).
The history they're trying to find is sad, unfortunately. Nerevar's family have all been Blades going back all the way to my HoK Bismuth, who was the first Blades member of this family. Because of this, all of Nerevar's family have been slowly killed off by the Aldmeri Dominion since the war broke out. They do eventually find this stuff out as a late teen via Miraak and HermaMora.
🌇 (sunset) - What does it take for your character to trust someone? Do they have to prove themselves? Or does your character not trust anyone no matter what? What made them this way?
Val is an Ohmes Raht Khajiit who uses they/them only.
They're an alchemist who deals in illegal and hard to obtain potions, poisons, and alchemical ingredients. It takes a LOT for them to be able to trust someone, they didn't make it this far and become successful at doing their trade by trusting people. There's only 1 person they will ever fully trust and that is their bodyguard, Astraea, who is a Twilight with an attachment to Val. They also kinda to a degree trust Alyx because she's the Master of the thieves guild, and works in tangent with Val to ensure their safety to a degree, and Niveria because she's the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood and a very popular customer of Val's wares.
🎇 (sparkler) - If your oc had the chance to start their life over again, what would they change, if anything? How would this change them and the people around them? Would their lives be better or worse? Would they change anything in the first place?
Bismuth is a Dunmer who uses she/her (but doesn't mind being called Sir/masc terms/pronouns etc), she's the Hero of Kvatch and Champion of Cyrodiil.
I honestly feel like she wouldn't change anything except telling Martin how she feels sooner so they have more time together. She might even try to change the course of history and save him from sacrificing himself. Letting him die like that is the only regret she ever had in life.
📙 (book) - Does your oc keep a journal of some kind? Is it just a diary or does it hold a secondary purpose like a dream journal? What’s in it that they would never want anyone to see? If they don’t have a journal, what would they write in it if they did have one?
Blade(not his real name) is a mixed race Nord/Orc who uses he/him. He is married to Ma (she/her, also not her real name) and they run a bar/inn in Whiterun together.
He defs doesn't keep a journal, but if he did he'd probs only write about patrons he's banned and also all the street kids they help out. He'd also be the type to talk about little things his wife does that he adores every day.
Blade and Ma look the other way when it comes to nonviolent crimes committed/discussed in their establishment and are commonly known as running a "shady" business, however most of the citizens refuse to report them due to all the positives their inn provides to the less fortunate populations of Whiterun.
🦺 (safety vest) - Is your character a cautious person or are they more reckless? Do they think before they act or do they act according to their heart’s desires? Why?
Rosephayne aka Rosie is a mixed race Bosmer/Breton who uses she/her pronouns. She's been Meridia's Champion since the 3rd era.
This is SUCH a good question for her specifically. It's kind of a mixed answer honestly. Her father was a Vigilant of Stendarr and she was raised to follow Stendarr and his teachings because of this. When she was old enough she joined the Vigilants herself because of how strongly she agreed with their beliefs. She's always been very cautious and suspicious of people, and used to REALLY think about her actions before doing anything. Over time she got more and more aggressive about Stendarr's beliefs that Daedra and the undead etc are BAD and picked up more violent and careless methods of dealing with those she suspected to be involved in those things. She eventually fell in with Meridia who encouraged her violent behaviour towards these individuals. Shortly after gaining enough of Meridia's favour, she became her Champion and enforced her will upon wherever she was led. She blindly followed her and agreed to become one of her Purified, which I've decided is a long and painful process to endure. She lives this way, doing as she's told until one day she's sent to take out a powerful necromancer, another OC named Karasu. Karasu gets her to question things and encourages her to break free from Meridia's grasps. Rosie does end up indulging in her emotions and jumps in without thinking, abandoning everything she's ever thought and worked for just to be with Karasu.
Too bad they're tragic, and it will never work. Oh well, at least she gets to be a little happy for a short period of time.

has there ever been any ingame dialogue/lore/etc about like... vampire body temperatures? there's mentions of vampire blood being used for certain potions, but that doesn't clue me in too much about their thermoregulation.
i would assume eso probably touched on this in at least one passing conversation, and i've certainly played an ungodly amount of eso, but i'm usually too focused on killing stuff and farming mats to catch every bit of lore LOL
...btw YES this is teldrana fic research... i think it would be funny if serana's body temperature was like barely above the surrounding ambient temperature. her hotness had to be nerfed by making her extremely unpleasantly cold to the touch
#once again i must ask teldryn How Bad Do You Want It. is it worth it to you sir. she'll freeze your gender neutral giblets off#shebbz shoutz#tes#serana

Time Moves Slow - Vilkas
sfw, gn reader Summary: After returning from Sovngarde the Dragonborn finds that a handful of hours for them has been years for those in Tamriel and reunites with their loved one. Others Linked: Farkas, Brynjolf, Teldryn, Miraak, Cicero
All duties were forgotten as your boots touched ground once more. Vilkas was all that mattered. Bruises ached with every step but you hurried through Whiterun without thinking - it was quieter than you'd expected, shops closed and stalls unmanned. Maybe they'd anticipated another dragon attack. The Gildergreen's branches stood bare and a few unknown citizens cast wary looks when you hustled toward Jorrvaskr. Heart pounding you shoved the hair out of your face, grimacing at the layer of dirt coating your skin before entering Jorrvaskr. The hearth’s fire banished the nervous chill from your bones. Companions filled every chair around the hall, some engaged in conversation and others hunched dutifully over books. The friendly buzz of conversation halted when you entered. You didn't know these eyes. Some held questions while others seemed hostile. "Who are you?" One voice broke the silence and panic set in. You'd only been gone hours. There was no chance someone scrounged up this many recruits in that small matter of time. "Who are all of you?" You'd never felt so lost in your own home. One woman swung an axe over her shoulder when she stood from the table. "Where is Vilkas?" "You know the Harbinger?" The woman's brow quirked up and your stomach dropped. At least she extended a hand toward the living quarters. "He doesn't get visitors. You should see him." Numbly you let the woman lead you through Jorrvaskr. The weapons adorning the walls were polished, portraits you'd never seen hung down the hallway. You swallowed a scream when you saw an accurate depiction of your face after Kodlak's. "Sir, you have a visitor." "I don't get visitors." Vilkas' grunt sounded rougher than ever. Your hands shook when the Companion cracked open the door to the Harbinger's office - there hadn't been a door before. You stared in awe at the scarred wood hung to make the Harbinger's quarters more private. "She seems to know you. Didn't tell us a name." The silence was so harsh you swore everyone in the hall heard your heart. "It'll only take a moment, sir." "Fine." He sighed and the woman snuck you a quick grin. You tried to return it but you couldn't shake the horrible sensation that something was deeply wrong. "Send her in. If it's a new recruit have Jorlyn ready the training yard." "Good luck." With an encouraging pat on the shoulder she departed. You stared at the crack in the door and gathered the screaming mess of your thoughts - Vilkas was behind that door. Had you somehow altered life on Tamriel after slaying Alduin? The World-Eater was surely important to the fabric of time, had you changed something fundamental during a few hours in Sovngarde? "Are you going to stand there all day, or can we get this over with?" All rational words were banished when you shoved open the door. Vilkas' dark hair was shorter than before and streaked through with grey. He flipped through some book and his foot tapped against the leg of his chair. Tears stung at your eyes when you took in the scars you'd never seen before, a clearly aged tattoo on his forearm, a wedding band on his ring finger. This couldn't be Vilkas - but that scowl didn't lie, you'd heard the voice that had whispered sweet promises to you only that morning. "Vilkas." Your voice broke around his name. His black glare finally tore away from the book and for one terrifying moment he didn't seem to know you. His thick brows tightened, mouth in a tight line when he turned to you. "My love?" His gaze softened when he dropped his work. He stood slowly, moving as if he feared approaching you. You couldn't stop tears cascading down your cheeks when Vilkas' fingers finally traced up your jaw, tugging you closer and allowing you to clutch at his unfamiliar armor. His stubble tickled at your skin when he kissed your face, eager hands drawing your body to his. "Where have you been?" His voice shook with each word. Your face stung from tears and Vilkas' familiar fingers combed through the back of your hair, one nervous kiss placed atop your head. "We have so much to discuss."

Teldryn is in Love👀
Teldryn: So I think I’ve contracted some weird disease from my patron.
Healer: That’s not good. Can you tell me your symptoms?
Teldryn: Whenever I’m around them, it’s like I can’t breathe or something. I find myself feeling more chipper than usual, but I’ve been sleeping less. I also stopped drinking.
Healer: Sir... I think you’re in love.
Teldryn: Shit, is there medicine for that?
Healer: I’m afraid they are your medicine.
