Ceroba’s Flaws pt. 1 (revised)

(slight uty pacifist spoilers)

(before i even start this i’d like to clarify two things, 1: i don’t ship staroba. i don’t think that ceroba was obligated to date starlo AT ALL especially considering that starlo doesn’t even confess to ceroba. 2: i understand that ceroba is grieving over chujin at this point and it’s the reason why she treats starlo and everyone else distantly, especially considering she knows that continuing chujin’s plan was hurting her. hence the “don’t you think i know how far gone I am!?” line in her pre-fight dialogue.)

Ceroba doesn’t really try to understand the reason WHY starlo is doing all the Wild East stuff and why he always has his North Star persona on. And now, obviously, Ceroba is dealing with her own problems especially by the time that Clover falls into the underground. But Ceroba and Starlo are best friends; plus the fact that Starlo was the only friend that Ceroba had after Chujin and Kanako died. So why doesn’t she try to understand Starlo? She tries to hide her annoyances with Starlo sometimes to spare his feelings, but doesn’t most of the time. She kinda treats Star like a little brother who needs to be babysat. “What the hell are you doing?” “I apologize for Star’s antics.”

(And now, I also have to address that Starlo is reckless and immature. It’s the reason why the Feisty Five breaks up in Pacifist and the reason why Starlo fights Clover. It’s his whole character arc. I’ll probably end up making a post about Starlo’s immaturity at some point too, cause I do have grievances with him as well.)

Starlo also mentions that he tried to help Ceroba out using the wild east’s distracting capabilities (i don’t exactly remember the quote but it was something like “I tried to help her take her mind off things. Aren’t distractions what’s best for that?”) but Ceroba doesn’t seem to notice Star’s efforts.

Ceroba mentions in the steamworks that she once considered dating Starlo when she was younger but chalks it up to her being young and naive. “Well, perhaps at one point I considered it.” “Back when I was young and naive, kind of like you.” “Hey, it’s science. Your brain is still developing.” her reasoning for not pursuing starlo being “I wanted to grow up and.. Star didn’t follow.” JEEZ ceroba, you didn’t have to be that cold 😭😭

i’d also like to add on my grievances with Ceroba and Clover. Starlo points out in Pacifist that “When I fought Clover, I was ‘reckless.’ But when YOU want their soul, it’s ‘for the greater good?’”, to which Ceroba replies saying that she already knows how far gone she is, but I still think that Starlo’s point stands. Yeah, In Starlo’s encounter with Clover he was in fact being reckless, due to him not being right in the head at that time. And yeah, you could also say that Ceroba wasn’t right in the head either during her pacifist fight (to which i agree). But the problem is that Ceroba keeps trying to justify her attacking Clover because it’s “for the greater good” and “for the future of monster kind” when in fact, she was being as reckless as Starlo was.

And can you really fucking see Bakugou "told the actual League of Villains to get on their knees and beg him to join them, will only do something if you ask him to do the opposite or challenge him to it, has to be kept in check or he might commit murder who knows" Katsuki even ALLOWING Kirishima to say something like that to, not just him, but ANYONE?

Bakugou would like murder him and he knows that, I think it's pretty safe to believe that everything between dragon kirishima and human bakugou is safe, sane, and consensual (that's a joke, while i personally believe that they're older in the fantasy au bc yknow travelling the world on their own, they're still basically 16 or something in the canon so weird stuff is still kinda weird)

So the concept of like

after a long period of travelling together, Kirishima is like "hey man, do you like wanna be bonded together? it's like a dragon thing and it's this whole ordeal and we'll literally be bound by our souls and it's a huge commitment so i get if you don't wanna that's fine, but i just think it would be really cool"

And then Bakugou is like "yeah sure, I literally hate everyone on this fucking planet except you, i'll get magically married to you"

LIKE YES THAT'S THE SHIT I WANT

AND IT'S THE SHIT I GET WITH THIS SHIP

like, oh my god, bakugou being like "yeah i guess you can tag along" but internally he's like holy shit i'm travelling with a fucking dragon and kirishima sees right through it but lets him have his moment

Why do you write Steddie?

I just find them so compelling, and there’s so many ways to shift the story around a bit or put them in different universes, like the options are just endless in a way a lot of the ships I’ve loved can’t be.

What’s your favorite trope to READ?

I’m such a sucker for hurt/comfort, but I feel like that’s such a broad range, right? More specific would be the trop of one or both having insecurities and getting that “I love you and I will choose to keep loving you” moment.

What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?

Probably the breakdown moment of finally finding a safe harbor, or realizing that people love you, and it just hits you like a freight train and you can’t do anything but fall apart, and that can go hand in hand with found family, but that’s my specific gut-punch feeling that I want to put in every fic.

What’s your favorite Steddie fic?

Oh this is so hard! I have so many that I go back and read time and time again, so many that I absolutely adore! God, just picking one is so nerve wracking, I’m too indecisive, so I’ll say my top three (in no particular order): Sanctuary by SpicedSage, I’ve seen your face before, my friend,but I don’t know if you know who I am by HMSLusitania, and The One in Which a Time Loop is Fucking Exhausting by badpancake

Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?

Oh for sure! I’ve had a rom-com idea bouncing around in my head for a while, I just have to figure out a good starting place for it!

What is your writing process like?

The majority of the time, I start writing out my stories on paper. I scratch it down at least enough to get me started and use that kind of as a springboard. When I can get to a point of typing it up, having that and editing as I go helps me to really build momentum and then I can just let it flow, but that initial momentum is the hard part between getting the story out of my head and onto a page. If I’m stopping and starting, I reread and edit what I’ve typed up as my springboard, so by the time I’m finished, I’ve reread it all enough times that I’m sure I’ve got everything in the order I want.

Do you have any writing quirks?

I’m very sure that I do! I start a lot of sentences with conjunctions and I try to write, at least in some parts, so it reads like a stream of consciousness without entering first person. For me it’s almost like I type how I talk and sometimes I get a little too far into that and have to reel it back.

Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?

 Oh definitely when it’s finished. I lose motivation for periods of time and have to rotate between projects, so I feel much better about stuff when it’s all just done and I don’t have to worry about being stalled for too long.

Which fic are you most proud of?

I’m kinda torn on this one! Like I’m super proud of all the heart and the emotion I felt and tried to express in But when it's your brother (Sometimes you look the other way), but My wounds cry for the grave (My soul cries for deliverance) was huge for me because that’s my biggest single chapter fic that I’ve ever written. If pressed, I think I’d have to go with the former just because that one in particular was so heavy for me on a more personal level.

How did you get the idea for But when it's your brother (Sometimes you look the other way)?

This fic is honestly so full of my own personal feelings that I get a little choked up thinking about it too much. I’m a younger sister, so I’m constantly in this cycle of making fun of my older sister and calling her names but having this deep love for her. My family isn’t one that really talks much about feelings, but there’s so much love there and I’m finding myself constantly thinking back on my own life about so many moments where neither of us was prepared for what we had to do, but I looked at her and thought she was invincible and I feel like that’s the core of Dustin and Steve. The “that’s my brother, he’s so tough and grown up and he’s always okay” and then the sort of devastation of realizing that this person you’ve always seen like that has a lot of moments where they’re scared and hurt and struggling but not showing it. There’s just a lot of me in that fic.

When writing I will stay one night beside you, never go back to the sea (I will stay and be thy husband though it be the death of me), what was something you didn’t expect?

I don’t know that there was anything I didn’t expect, because I try not to really push expectations onto my work, I try to just let it flow and figure it out from there. But something that felt right that I hadn’t initially planned for was the moment between Steve and Joyce. We haven’t seen them interact really, and I’ve seen a few different takes on them and how they’d see each other, but I honestly loved the thought of him having this moment of trying to hold it all together because there’s so much weight on his shoulders and the moment he sees someone who’s safe, someone who has been judged so much and wouldn’t be judgemental of him, he breaks.

What inspired Fools in love (Is there any other kind of pain)?

This one actually started as a “haha what if Steve was born on a holiday” and then I made it a little angsty. Because I do like the born on a holiday and your birthday gets overlooked vibe, but then it was just a moment of thinking about what if it gets overlooked not because it’s a big holiday, but because people just don’t believe him and how much that would hurt year after year.

What was your favorite part to write from I will stay one night beside you, never go back to the sea (I will stay and be thy husband though it be the death of me)?

Definitely the bit about Steve begging for Eddie to keep him, with that warring feeling of not wanting to be restrained but wanting to be chosen. Feelings are so often multidimensional and that was something that just really spoke to me.

How do/did you feel writing But when it's your brother (Sometimes you look the other way)?

I cried so much. Like I said, there’s so much personal feeling in there, so much of the way that I am with my siblings is there, and we didn’t have any life or death situations, but that sort of love, it just sticks with you forever. In equal moments I’m Steve and I’m Dustin in there, being a middle child and all I’ve got both experiences, so I definitely had a few moments where I needed to step back and let my own feelings settle again.

What was the most difficult part of writing Fools in love (Is there any other kind of pain)?

This was actually my first fic written and published in over three years. So the hard part for me was actually just working up the courage to post it. I’ve been dealing a lot with depression and anxiety and burnout for years now and just the general dissatisfaction with my own writing, so the love I got after posting that was really just so special to me and I can’t fully express how much it means and how encouraging it was knowing people liked it.

Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?

Oh I have so many things that are half done, but none that are near finished enough to try and hype them up yet. I literally have a running list of ideas I’m adding to here and there and I just follow the inspiration!

The only thing I can think to add is that I’m just absolutely so flattered and tickled about someone liking my work enough to nominate me for this! I’ve always tended to be more of a lurker in just about every fandom I’ve been in so this is such a surprise and it means the world that my writing touched someone enough for them to think of me.

I am very much a fan of Maka having a crush on Soul and Soul trying to matrix his way into staying friends and not hurting her feelings lol.

I saw Stein say they seem to resonate, but don't and took that to heart.

I don't think it would work long term because Soul is very passive/cut off and Maka's insecure about their relationship from day 1. Very teen sweet hearts that break up after they stop sharing classes coded to me.

Still, I think the fandom has used the ship as a jumping off point to make great stuff. But I firmly believed fanon Maka/Soul > canon Maka/Soul.

Next Kid x Maka

On paper and politically, I think this would work. Especially post time skip. There's a reason I had them briefly arranged/engadged in my first fic. I think they could be good together.

I just hardcore ship them with other characters too much to make them endgame. Bonus points for Kid being an eldirch being that only appears human and ages/grows differently while Maka stays human. Love me some immortal watching their human loved ones die angst.

Listen, my fic is breeching novel length, so I'm abt to go off.

But I will leave above the cut that this niche part of the fandom deciding his government name is Blake is a huge pet peeve of mine. Like, him choosing to identify as Star Clan with the name he was given and still holding his head high and demanding people recognize him on his terms is like, really important to his character. And 4kids-ing his name kept me away from a lot of the best written fics.

So I initially had this as a fringe one-sided ship in my first fic. I just kinda left them there on the chessboard and didn't think much of it.

Then after editing my old fic years later I wanted to do a sequel and that story beat was the only thing I had left open ended and when I thought abt it...

Maka and Black Star have such serious abandonment issues and workaholic tendancies, I can only see them getting together with someone after years of sniffing them out from afar.

So I did my lil one-shot of what I thought everyone would be up to after 20 years of 'peace' and realized as adults they'd be perfect for each other, since being the best at what they do is one of the most important things to them. Their general life goals lined up.

And I've been obessed with banging out this concept ever since.

Do I think they would have worked during the timeframe SE took place? Hell no. That would have been a flaming friendship ruining disaster.

Like post time skip he seemed a lil protective of her in canon, plus they constantly compare themselves to each other in the manga. But the manga left off with Black Star being a teen parent and Maka stuck spinning her wheels post time skip, still unable to shake this fear of failure. It seemed like a good way to tie off those plot threads (meanwhile Soul and Kid seemed to have pretty finished off arcs by the end). Been really enjoying having these two be equally stubborn about wanting them to work without ever saying it directly, and doing mental gymnastics to avoid acknowledging they're dating.

Both canons have Maka punching a god and fighting it head on, you can't tell me that power obsessed goober wouldn't find that hot.

Side note - I noticed while rereading Soul Eater miester/weapon romantic pairs/trouples were common, but in all iterations I don't recall seeing any meister/meister or weapon/weapon romantic pairs. So that's been an interesting concept to play around with too.

I fully acknowledge that this will always be a rare-pair. Though I value the 10-12 people consistently reading my fic abt them. I see y'all. I thank y'all!

14. What are your favorite smut tropes?

I feel like you know them already :D But hmmmm more seriously... I think in general, I have "will think about something I initially found off-putting too hard and decide actually it is hot/fun/wtv" disease, so this would be a long and very inclusive list. I love a good power dynamic in smutfic (good in the sense of a fine vintage, not moral good), whether it's like a fun thing a sweet couple is playacting, an underlying reality for a ship, or outright dubcon/noncon. Obviously "power dynamic" can fit a billion tropes, but I love very many of those tropes for that underlying reason lmao. Also, I love when there's a lot of emotion, be it DRAMA, or angst, or hurt/comfort, or anything else. Obviously those strike different notes and it depends on the story, but like while I think it can be less "sexy" than pure porn I LOVE SO MUCH reading a good like "magical healing dick" conclusion to an arc of longing and woes. It's an orgasm of the SOUL. Or "magical healing baby spawned from magical healing dick," I am Not Immune to this (it's about the Cherishing). Also, I love those ppl on AO3 who are out there writing the most fucked up (affectionate) monsterfucking oneshots ft. worldbuilding with their original characters and original universes--doing Eru's work. ALSO I remember once upon a time being judgy about omegaverse and laugh because wow that really didn't last long on my part as soon as I opened those fics and realized there was longing inside.

21. Share a smutty headcanon about [character(s)]. (Maedhros/Maglor)

Wow who are these characters I've never heard of them before...

I feel like I need a whole essay to try to get out all my thoughts about them and it wouldn't entirely make any sense, but I think the one-headcanon version is like. Maglor longs to be claimed by Maedhros and please Maedhros and be absolved and loved and worthy & this translates well in his brain to being penetrated. Maedhros longs to feel like he can effectively take care of Maglor/make Maglor happy (something I think he has real despair and doubt about, but the resigned despair and bitterness that he can't correlates to how much he WISHES to) and also that his control issues/endless responsibility-taking are Working Actually And Perfectly Good & this translates well in his brain to penetrating Maglor (which is on unspoken offer from Maglor whenever Maglor is in the same continent and Maedhros is still breathing). Much love. I think that dynamic remains in play between them regardless of the sex act but this sure is my preference for them.

22. Share a DVD commentary on [one of your smut fic/smutty scene from a longer work]. (Mapmaking, known in my google docs folder as "gap pussy")

YEAHH okay. So this one has been lurking almost a full year (I think) as a handful of incoherent notes in my notes app, which sort of sketched out a lot of the dirty talk and action. This was very convenient for finally sitting down and writing it!! Which I had a lot of fun doing; every fic of mine for smut week has been pure self-indulgence. This fic owes a spiritual debt to Death and Taxes, an amazing russingon fic by TheLionInMyBed that was formative in my Maedhros thinking like... very early in my entry to Silm fandom stuff. I just loved Maedhros combining his politics and strategy (never turned off!) with sex and romance in such a blatant, funny, affectionate-but-instrumental way. Also, I've been making "Maglor's Gap " jokes since like. Forever, so it was bound to happen sometime.

The actual "strategy" on Maedhros' part here (aka the policies he wants Maglor to enact) is purely styrofoam porn setup and maybe doesn't really make sense, but I figured that's not what we're here for so I didn't pay it too much mind. What I did want to come through in that aspect of the story was Maedhros' affection for Maglor (kinda understated I think in this fic, but he doesn't want Maglor to die in like, say, dragonfire, and he will do all he can to prevent that. He wants Maglor to be as secure as he can, even though maintaining the siege/leaguer & his own trust & strategy mean Maglor is at great personal risk in this critical position) and Maedhros' tendency to taking leaderly responsibility (he's aware of the risk and that he's asked this of Maglor, & Himring will help out the Gap).

Also, in my head this is a spiritual sequel to my magnum opus Thine Ever, Makalaurë, despite the fact that in between these 2 Gap-era moments, Maglor by miracle of Yavanna's touch gained a pussy. This is a period I associate with a lot of hope for them and a sort of renewing of ties, testing and forging of Maglor's devotion and Maedhros' reliance on it, and Himring!Maedhros=sexiest Maedhros. I'm finding it really fun lately to write humor and dirty talk, both of which are kinda new terrain for me, so that's been delightful on my end. New terrain... ha

also.. idk i just got tired of him. i did think he's funny when i first got into bsd (i was 13-14 so you didn't have to do much for me to think you're funny) but now everything about his behavior is so. ugh. it's like okay!! you're a walking red flag!! not in a fun way!!

i still think he's a well-written character though. just not my type.

makima: i can just say that i'm into dominant women honestly her design is so cool!! i have her plushie right next to me rn. she's staring into my soul. she's a really cool and well-written character and i don't know, there's just something about her that still makes you (me.) trust her even though you know she's the villain here. also i really love characters who do horrible, horrible things but they believe that there is no other way and they believe they're doing the right thing. something about her is also weirdly comforting to me but we're not gonna unpack that right now that moment in the manga when she said that denji can just rely on her and he doesn't have to do anything. that felt personal to me. also the fact that in the end she just needed a hug and needed someone to love her.. idk, it's probably cheesy, but i found it heartbreaking.

reo: HE'S JUST LIKE ME FR!!! it's pretty much impossible for me to talk about reo without oversharing stuff so i'm just gonna say that. well. i know what it's like to be a sheltered kid who doesn't even know what they want from life but when they finally start to realize what they probably want, they get hit with that "nah don't do that" and also his relationship with nagi is so... HHHHHHH been there. done that. know what it's like. i was literally going "BABY NO. NO DON'T DO THAT IT'S ONLY GONNA HURT YOU MORE" even though i do like this ship djdksks. anyway yeah his character is very realistic, it was so painful for me to read the part where nagi was like "nvm i need you actually" and he said that exactly when reo started to move on...

bachira: i actually didn't like him that much at first because i'm usually not a fan of characters who.. like. have this "weird and goofy" kind of personality, i just find them kinda exhausting, but bachira's character actually turned out to be much deeper than i expected and i find him very relatable as well. also most of the time he felt like the most normal character to me HSJSJKAKDK

yuno: SHE IS SO. *falls on the floor and starts sobbing* i'm not usually a fan of characters who are like.. very fun and cheerful on the outside, but they're actually suffering (and i have. so many ocs like that. ironic, isn't it) because most of the time it's either written kinda poorly, doesn't feel relatable, or the fandom just boils their character down to that one trait, but yuno's character felt very refreshing to me, because her t1 personality already felt kinda fake and even es mentioned that she doesn't have to pretend around them and when yuno really does stop pretending, like. it's so cool because at the same time she changed a lot, but you know that she actually hasn't changed at all and she's always been like that. there always were signs that yuno is actually colder (haha get it) than she acts so it isn't surprising for her to act this way in t2 and it doesn't feel too drastic. also her wanting to be seen as an adult and wanting people to stop coming up with sympathetic motives for her is so.. it's so good.

kirari: hmmm i actually don't really have a strong opinion about her! she's cool! but i like her design a lot! her hairstyle, her eyes, her iconic lipstick, she's so pretty!

yumeko: YUMEKO JABAMI THE WOMAN THAT YOU AREEEEE... the crush i had on this girl when i was younger was so. shsdjasksksk. i know i just said i don't really like "weird" characters but yumeko is so unhinged, it's so fun to watch! i really like kakegurui exactly because of how it just. lets women do wild things and be in the center of attention and all. i like how at the same time it's hinted that her character is much deeper than it seems, but also she just REALLY likes gambling!

ive been revisiting adventure time (sort of. ive had it on while im doing stuff so im sort of absorbing it but ill pay more attention if i manage to get to stuff i havent seen) and i still love marshall and gumball but trying to understand fiona and cake is making my brain hurt

its written by ice king so like

- in the adventure time encyclopedia (which i havent finished reading but its fun) ice king describes ice queen as like his perfect soul mate, so she seems to be part “obviously my female self would be beautiful and everyone loves her because im handsome and lovable” and part “ice king designs his ideal waifu” so that part tracks. thats fine. but

- why did he design fiona like that. shes cute id like her as a standalone character but the fact that. well firstly that the show designers decided to give her a short skirt and curves when finn is drawn as like, a little playdoh man, is already Kinda Weird and looks like what a sexy finn halloween costume wouldve been if she didnt already exist. but then when we realize ice king designed her its even worse. and he makes fiona in love with him which is uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

its also very odd that ice king apparently chose to characterize fiona as like. more mature about crushes and relationships than finn is? she realizes she doesn’t need a boyfriend and doesnt actually want to date her male friends. finn doesnt figure that shit out for Ages if he ever does at all, i never finished the show. so why would ice king, a man who thinks relationships are just kidnapping someone and making them love you, write finn as a more emotionally mature and stable girl

- i love gumball and most of his weird characterization can be explained by. the fact that most of the episode he’s actually ice queen in disguise. but he still asks fiona out at the end and she decides she doesnt want to date him. bubblegum isnt and never has liked finn like that for the major reason that hes way too young for her. i never really noticed how obvious the age difference is when i was a kid myself but as an adult its like. yeah finn is a Child to her. maybe gumball’s relationship with fiona is off because ice king doesnt know them that well and invented his own interpretation but there is no way ice king ships bubblegum with finn. we also then have the issue of “this (at least) 18 year old just asked out a 13 year old” which, uh, not a good look either. but the fact that ice king still writes gumball as uninterested in ice queen but fiona is in love with ice king is just really fucking weird and i don’t understand it

- also yes the “gumball started taking off his shirt” thing was the ice queen revealing who she really was, it wasnt actually sexual and gumball himself didnt do that, but by the way fiona and cake reacted it was clearly written to come across like he was about to take her to bed. which is again, a problem that the show writers thought that was cool to include, and a Real problem if ice king wrote it intentionally

anyway all that was weird. i still like gumball and marshall though. i feel like it would have made more sense if LSP wrote it and not ice king

Don't ask where I got the strength to watch another episode tonight. But I did. And before I get to my notes from my watch, I realized something. I realized where this animation is feeling so familiar from. It’s taking me back to Odyssey: Into the Mind’s Eye. Which apparently came out in 1996 and was part of a computer animation series in the early/mid 90s. This was my introduction as a wee little Chibi to computer animation. And it was all set to music. Watching V3D is making me think of that, which is kinda nice and nostalgic.

Okay, now without further ado, here be my notes of my watch through.

The title alone being “Lost Souls”. Already, my curiosity is piqued.

Watching now and Lotor using the castle as his sort of ship now, it has me thinking. Is this perhaps where VLD got the concept of Zarkon’s command center being mobile and the planet destroyed? Ah, gotta love watching old Voltron stuff and seeing how they may have influenced the new. I love it.

Jeez, that glorified calculator pretty much blaming failed peace talks on the Voltron force. Dude, those peace talks wouldn’t have gone well anyway. Lotor’s a Grade A bastard. He never intended to be peaceful to begin with. You would think with the tech and AI to that calculator he’d be smart enough to figure it out, but. Alas. And who gave this calculator the right to suspend the force! And having the drones pilot the lions? That doesn’t sound good. Five minutes in, I hope the lions show sentience and reject those drones.

Arus may be part of the alliance, but it feels like utter bullshit that the Garrison can dictate what happens with the lions.

About eight minutes in, and a comment on audio. Right. Now I know why I’m cautious with shows. Some shows have certain sounds and frequencies that actually hurt the ears. Thankfully the multiplying of the ships and the sound it made didn’t last too long.

“Relax Hunk, the alliance only needs big, dumb, and obedient, and you only score two out of the three. Hahaha!” Damn, Pidge, that was actually rude. Poor Hunk… c’mon, man.

That calculator controlling the drones for the lions… Voltron isn’t a one man team, dude. It’s the five people! Like Alfor said, the pilots are the souls! Now I get the title.

“Through you, I will demonstrate the robots are superior to humans.” Yeah. I watched Voltron Force and VLD. Robots aren’t exactly superior. Unless you count Beezer and Rover in VLD, because they’re adorable. But not exactly superior, but rather equal.

HAH! Fourteen minutes in and the lions can’t form Voltron. So, it’s the soul aspect of the team that lets them form Voltron. Intriguing. And perfect. It shows that you can’t just program everything to go your way.

“I fear there’s no hope.” Whose fault is that, you damn calculator.

Also, watching the top of the lion’s head open up to eject the robot is an interesting take. Gives it more of the toy feel to the lions.

I will admit, I’m not feeling the plating that covered Red’s head to make a point for an attack. It’s a little… weird. But hey, at least the team proved that they’re superior to soulless drones and could get their lions and form Voltron.

You Were Never Meant To Be a Hero / DSMP [Hero AU] Fanfic [TnT Duo] / Thoughts

I know I said I wasn't going to talk about hero fics and shit but like.. I kinda like this one aghauhedsuihf

It. So. Wilbur, the eldest son of the Minecrafts, which is a hero family (Phil, Techno, Tommy), is a rescue hero called Magpie (unless somehow i remembered this wrong????). I think it was a thing in the Minecrafts to name themselves after their type of bird.

Wilbur has been overshadowed all his life by his brother who's better at fighting, who's more famous then him, but Wilbur tries his hardest, overworking himself and doing so many things to help people only to never be noticed.

Quackity, a former vigilante and current villain called Ace (again, unless I somehow got the names wrong), finds an interest in Wilbur-

[spoilers aAaaaa] and proceeds to claim him as a Nemesis, which villains can do to a hero in which said hero will get EVERYTHING that that villain has done for any clues as it basically means that Quackity is Wilbur's responsibility now.

It's written smartly, with a lot of thought and effort put into it and it shows, because you can really tell that it all kinda flows really nicely with each other. I might be wrong, but I feel like it just matches still regardless? I dunno, I've been reading this while it's been in WIP and it has just finished with its last chapter.

But still I really like it.

The hero system is always abusive as fuck, but I also don't hear that much of others speaking up about their own bad experiences, other villains, children, heroes in training, vigilantes, even just heroes speaking about their experiences.

And this fic? I think, although it doesn't explicitly state of the association's crumble, they are really breaking. Wilbur broadcasting everything and how the hero association is a fucking dick and did shit to CHILDREN, and just- I'll refrain from speaking too much about their wrongs as it's.. kinda triggering :')))

And then there are villain sympathizers who wear a shade of blue the same as Wilbur's wings as a sign

”the stars will go out before i forget you, mark” “we will stay as close to you as the tide is to the shore” “i knew when i met mark that i had met the person who gave my soul peace, and i did not think i would find that in another, but i have. if both of you could just sit with me here before this gathering storm, it would mean a great deal to me”

they end off the series [spoilers] all taking up leadership positions in order to fight discrimination in their world and kieran ends up becoming king of his people, and he tries to change their culture from one of hate and deception to one of kindness and unity! mark and cristina do something similar too! and while the three of them are all busy trying to make the world better, they end up getting a cottage that’s kinda on fey land but not really (significant in the story for reasonsxD), and all staying there together when they have free time!

they’re also just so!! cool!! i love them. my favourite scene with them is when cristina is standing alone in an empty ballroom, looking out to london. mark comes in and though there’s no music, he asks her to dance with him. she puts on some music and they do, and end up kissing, but then kieran walks in. keep in mind at this point in the story he’s lost some of his memories so he’s kinda forgotten that he broke up with mark (though he did kinda say that he was fine with him dating cristina, it’s all very chaotic shdjdhdjhsj) - but he’s not angry. he just smiles at mark and tells him that he “didn’t do it right”, before asking cristina to dance with him, and she later describes it as “it felt like dancing with fire”.

ohh and have i mentioned that they have one scene together where they make ‘doughnut sandwiches’ (cutting doughnuts in half to put fruit and honey and stuff in them) together before they all go fight a war? it’s so!! domestic and adorable.

there’s also a scene the night before the war in which they’re all making s’mores over the fire and mark puts an acorn on his. cristina defends his choice while kieran just roasts him for it. it made me laughxD

kieran also calls cristina “my lady of roses” which is so?? ahhhsndgdjdh?? ahhh!!!!

also if you like idiots in love they are literally the perfect ship to vote for! mark and cristina ended up getting entangled with the red string of fate thing, but in a ‘it cursed us’ way, not romantic way, which was ahh awful for them but it was so unexpected that i found it a little funny at first.

they also… they also just compliment each other, you know? cristina was left behind by two people she loved more than anything and mark and kieran both reassure her and keep their word that they won’t leave. she also feels pressure sometimes to be the practical one, the kind one, and they both go along with her if she wants to be impulsive or less than perfect and she trusts herself to be so around them. kieran makes mistakes and both of them love him and point out the good he has done too, without just brushing over his mistakes or erasing his blame. mark doesn’t feel good enough for either of them (he’s basically classed as the ‘lowest’ in both commuinities he’s part of bc,,, bigotry) but they both remind him od what they love about him and why he definitely is good enough for both of them!

they all also cut each other’s hair at certain points i think?? it’s so!! ahhhhdhejdhdh. so sweet.

OHH and one of my other favorite scenes. mark is dating kieran so that he doesn’t realise his memories for the last couple weeks are gone (long story short, in those weeks he and mark broke up because he kinda accidentally hurt mark. they can’t tell him he has memory loss as they could literally better thousands of lives if he does a thing for them which he won’t do if they tell him of the weeks he doesn’t remember, bc then he’ll he so overcome with guilt that he’ll probably run away). mark and kieran end up kissing with cristina (who was kinda dating mark before kieran came back with memory loss) in the room. when they pull away kieran says to her, he doesn’t know her super well at this point, “you didn’t look away. was it (the kiss) really that interesting?” and she stares back and goes “it was for my own benefit.” i love them they’re never shy about what they want anshdjdjdn

they got together the night before the war so it’s also implied that they slept together for the first time literally the night before the main war of this book series, which. ahshdjdhhzb iconic. also when they all confess their feelings kieran says “it is common, in faerie. marriages like this (polyamory).” and mark cuts him off with a grin and “are you proposing to us?” I LOVE THEMxD

on a more personal note, they’re one of the few polyam relationships in a ya novel where they’re main characters and end up happy. as a teenager who had just realised they were polyam these books meant so much to me. they showed me that being a teenager wasn’t too young to realise that and that polyamory definitely wasn’t just about sex, it was about so many more things. i got to love a love story about characters like me, which was… it still means so so much to me, i swear.

I recently reread it because I got a new comment and although I'd change some things now (mostly world-building stuff, my SW-world knowldge is still shitty, but I've gotten better and I do see a few holes) but as far as the relationship and story goes, I really do love it. I was actually kinda surprised, I thought even my writing was pretty solid

I mean... there’s no doubt about this one. It’s been over a year and I’m still working on it, although we’re close to the end now. Before this one, the longest multichapter I wrote was around 4 chapters, so not that long at all. Writing this story, actually having a plot besides the relationship, trying to do worldbuilding, it was all very challenging but I learned a lot. I honestly used to think I wasn’t capable of writing such long stories (hell, we’re past 90k now) and I’m just very proud to prove myself wrong and keep trying

One underrated fic/series of yours you’d recommend

it’s hard to decide what I’d consider underrated so I took a look at my stats and I chose two fics based on comments and kudos (neither of them have the least amount of kudos and comments overall, but taking into consideration length, plot, my love for the story, date since published etc, I felt like these deserved the spot)

so comment wise I chose small rebellions

Summary: Imperial Jyn Erso finally seizes her freedom and escapes with undercover agent Cassian Andor. But the Krennics catch up to her.

Canon divergence, imperial Jyn, undercover Cassian, torture/violence

tbh I’m not 100% satisfied with this (and I think the plot/warnings themselves do turn some people off so it makes sense it did a bit worse than my usual stuff). I think I kinda chickened out in the end because I wanted to push it a bit further and make it even darker but didn’t in the end.... idk, maybe that’s what’s missing. but at the same time I always wanted to write something like this where one person is kinda in the position that they have to choose between hurting the person they love or possibly dooming them to death, and I think Rebelcaptain is the perfect ship for it, so I’m gonna advertise it anyway (although I kinda wish a writer more talented than me did this concept instead but sometimes you just have to write what you want to read)

and kudos wise I’m choosing i’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife

writing this felt a bit like writing shadow preachers, kinda self-indulgent, kinda humorous, kinda intentionally messy. I absolutely adore writing modern Jyn who’s just a mess and super snarky, it makes for fun internal monologues, so I think that’s why both this and shadow preachers have a huge place in my heart. also hitman Cassian is really fun too, and if I can ever finish Blood Red Rose, there’s definitely more to tell in this universe. if I had to choose just one, I’d definitely recommend this one over small rebellions

Welcome to my ask blog, I hope you enjoy your stay here. You came at a perfect time cause I damn near love sirens -w-

Funnily enough, I have two! Two sirens... Pinks and Mimic.

Chum: when they first met, Chum thought that you were one of the most wonderful and beautiful creatures in the world. You seemed so interesting, and he saw you even crash a ship! He swam over to help you move the ship to search through it, and you two started to talk. After that, he was caught like a fish in a net. He did anything that you wanted him to do, and anyone in the ocean that dared mess with you would soon meet a fate worse than any death that they could have wished for.

Pinks: She is also a siren! She finds the fact that she found another one really nice! It most likely happens after she gets back into the ocean from her lake, though. The second she saw you and heard your song; she started to swim around you quickly “I'm a siren too!” expect her to be very cuddly. Sirens need a lot of attention, and honestly, she's been 'locked' away for such a long time. In the back of her mind she knew that she was missing something but she was so happy to meet another siren that she didn't even think about it too much.

Oak: Well when he first met you, he had no idea what you were. He thought maybe you were another monster but you didn't quite look like what a monster should, and your soul was… strange. He avoided you at first, easy to do seeing as though he lived on a farm and you were in the ocean but after a bit, he goes to talk to you. He realizes that he really enjoys talking with you! Your song doesn't quite effect him all that much, there is that slight pull but his hearing isn't the best, so really, it's perfect!

Powder: You, honestly, caught his attention and he started to spy on you whenever he got the chance to. He was pretty sure that you knew that he was there, and if not, then oh well! He enjoyed seeing what you did. It took a bit for you two to really talk, and when they finally did, he realized that your siren song wouldn't work on him? Maybe it was because of his brother 'protecting' him, how sweet was that? You two talk a lot now, and he has a lot of fun bringing you human things so you could check it out. As long as you don't, you know, mess with him too much he won't get too bothered.

Shark: Well… Scales, his brother, always told him to be careful with sirens but he didn't really care what you were, he came over to say hi anyway! You most likely thought it was a tad strange, how sweet this shark mer was but hey, they were good hunters and you could get food from him then ditch him. Yeah… yeah, that didn't happen. You grew attached and ever since then, you two have been really good friends! He dislikes the idea of you crashing ships and instead tries to get you to help him collect stuff to eat rather than hunt and hurt humans! Plus, you know, humans kinda taste gross anyway. Have some of his kelp :D
