Work outs (they don't matter)
I wanna start off by saying that, for most people, how you work out doesn’t really matter. You’ll hear a lotta people say a lotta different things, but ultimately there are just a few tenants that are important:
Entirety Work out every muscle group, every week. Even legs.
Intensity Push yourself. People hut the gym for weeks or months and see no results because they’re just goin through the motions. Lift till you stare your maker in the eye, and tell em you plan on improving upon their creation.
Variety Mix it up. Changing your work out up causes your body to adapt and helps you get over plateaus. Transversely, if you’re always mixin things up it gets hard to track progress. Every four weeks you should make some sort of significant tweak.
All these things fall under the umbrella of “Do the exercises right/don’t fuckin hurt yourself”. Fuck your ego. Pick up tiny weights and do them absolutely perfect. Everything that’s moving should follow the path you want it to and anything’s that’s not should be flexing and still. Doin shitty reps with more weight than you can actually handle will ultimately hinder your progress. Fuck that shit.
MY CURRENT WORKOUT
Like I said, it doesn’t really matter, but this is what I’m doin right now. I went from lifting heavy weights with as much rest as I felt like I needed all winter, to a remarkably different plan. Also, keep in mind that I’m doin hard labor at least part of the work day and spending a lot of time on my feet. Two weeks in and I’ve dropped six pounds, with all weigh ins done at the same time of day. So here we go.
Sunday - Chest Dumbell Press on the Ab Ball 4(sets)*8(reps)-1:45 (rest between sets) Feet Elevated Push Ups 4*10-1:30 Dumbell Flys on the Ball 4*12-1:15
Monday - Back Pull Ups 4*8-1:45 Wide Grip Bar Bell Rows 4*10-1:30 Single Arm Dumbell Rows 4*12-1:15
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Arms Dumbell Overhead Press 4*8-1:45 Bar Bell Pulls 4*10-1:30 Dumbell Curl 4*12-1:15 Tricep Extensions 4*12-1:15
Thursday - Legs Squats 4*(4 bodyweight/4 on buso/4 jumping) - 1:45 Exercise Band Circuit 4*12-1:15
Friday - Back and Chest Accessory Band Circuit Low Press/Pull Dow/Low Fly/Lat Pull 5*13-1:15
Saturday - Rest
So that’s it. Pretty straight forward. I’ll do this for 4 weeks then switch up which exercises go for which volume. After 3 cycles I’m gonna switch to some sort of Push/Pull/Legs split. I usually don’t do bi and tri work, since they get hit with compound lifts, but figured why not. Also I’m goin sooner light with legs 1. Cause I squated heavy all winter and 2. With the labor I do, that shit would kill me. Also there’s no squat rack here and I didn’t feel like buying one.
My strength has been dropping, who has was expected but not at this rate. I’m gonna try to increase my calorie intake a little bit and hope for the best. Also, the later season is less labor intensive, so it’ll be easier to maintain muscle. My goal is to not let myself drop below 210.
