The Madrigals and Anxiety
so, I think it's not a controversial statement to say that anxiety runs in the family... what I find oddly cute is that a lot of nervous ticks or outbursts are very similar to those of other family members, but let's proceed with order.
Alma, Isabela
Alma had it hard. I think homegirl is the culprit, but she probably had an anxious gene in her before everything.
do we need to explain what her anxiety looks like? absolute perfectionism to the point of insanity so people won't turn on her, constantly making Bruno check the future for possible dangers, self-soothing behaviours (asking Pedro for help, wearing the mourning shawl), always needing to keep a watchful eye on everyone, you name it.
The perfectionism moved straight through to Isabela. There's a whole song about not meeting expectations, so I don't think I need to go fruther into it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pepa
Pepa is another obvious one. Her anxiety is palpable throughout most of the movie and it is, unlike her mum, mostly related to things that are not life-or-death situations (Antonio's party needing to be perfect).
She is constantly seen spiralling and using self-soothing rituals (hair touching, "clear skies"), often to no avail.
Her mood swings and irritability outbursts are also proof of anxiety.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruno
Before you come at me!! He clearly has OCD... It's in the script so it was meant like this. And I know people say he was just superstitious, but I come from a very superstitious culture and it's not like that 😭
I can prove it!!
Throwing salt. It is usually done after you have spilled it. Bruno had not spilled any salt before the throwing over the shoulder. It is an act that is meant to cancel bad luck from an extremely specific action that he had not done.
Knock knock knock knock knock knock on wood. You are supposed to knock twice, say it once, only after someone has said something good you don't wanna jinx or bad you wanna prevent. Bruno hasn't been talking to anyone in 10 years, it's just a ritual to him at this point OR it's a reaction to his own thoughts. Superstitious people don't do things based on their thoughts: that's OCD. Also the number of knocks and the one on the head is oddly specific and not related to any superstitious beliefs as far as I'm aware.
Fingers crossed. Again, you do that when you are hoping for something good, but nothing happened he might want to cross his fingers for, it's just another ritual. Also, all of these rituals are kind of contradicting each other (hoping for something/trying to prevent something), he's just trying to bring as much good luck as possible.
I'm not saying he is not superstitious, he very much is, but his superstition pathologized to the point of becoming an illness. This is not how someone who's simply superstitious acts.
He also has a generally nervous attitude and lots of self-soothing movements, like the rubbing his arm we'll get to later.
The only other explanation could be that he thinks he is the bad luck, but that still does not explain things like the crossed fingers.
Tumblr media
Julieta, Camilo, Mirabel
They don't look like they struggle a lot with anxiety (I am only talking about the actual condition, not genuine worry that has a reason of being like Casita breaking or not receiving a gift). They are all very accustomed to dealing with anxious family members though and they are good at it.
Mirabel is probably the more anxious among the three, but she is also an incredible supporter for Toñito, who's not getting his own section simply because his fear was very much justified, but for a literal 5yo his anxiety shows great promise of becoming just like his mum's.
Honourable mention in this section goes to Félix and Agustìn, we stan some supportive husbands and fathers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luisa
My baby. The first time we see her as being relevant plot-wise is literally because her eye was twitching. Her character arc is learning to chill. I rest my case.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dolores
Now, Dolores is a bit trickier, because she is not as loud as the rest of her family. She does always seem to be extremely on edge though and she is often doubting herself (she stopped believing someone was in the walls despite hearing Bruno for 10+ years because they told her it was not possible).
I don't know whether it's canon or if I've read too much fanfiction, but her room is supposed to have some degree of soundproofing, that she doesn't use because she needs to hear if her family needs help (Luisa's eye twitch).
Finally...
The similar twitches and anxious responses
The arm-rub of Luisa and Bruno (+ supportive sisters <3<3<3<3<3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hand movement while screaming, like mother like daughter

what do you imagine antonio grown up
Thank you for the ask! This ended up being a little long so I put it under a cut. Just a quick warning, my ideas of what Antonio is like as an adult might not be everybody's cup o' tea, that's not to say I think he grows up to be a jerk. The exact opposite. I just figure the guy is going to be the least traditional in his family due to the influence of the animals around him.
I like the common headcanon that Antonio grows up to be really tall. I figure he ends up taller than Pepa but still a little shorter than Luisa. Despite his height, Pepa still insists on calling him her baby even once he's a grandfather himself.
I once saw somebody reason that because Antonio hangs out with a carnivore, he gets pretty comfy with the circle of life. That makes a lot of sense to me, but I imagine it's his association with jaguars that makes him such a stalwart advocate for animal rights. Jaguars might eat other animals but they don't put them in tiny little boxes and forget to feed them. The circle of life is a part of nature, cruelty for cruelty's sake is not. So, Antonio goes around to the farms of Encanto and does what he can to ensure that the livestock are all being treated fairly. And considering he's followed everywhere he goes by at least one jaguar, he can do a lot.
In the same vein as him being comfy with the cycle of life and death, I imagine that Antonio learns what sex is basically the first time mating season comes around. He sees one of the birds preparing a nest, asks if this means they’re about to have babies and gets a frank lesson on that bird’s courting rituals. The bird doesn’t see any reason not to explain how new birds are made, and the talk is given so matter of factly that Antonio just thinks of it as a new science fact. One day his parents are reminiscing about when they were young and Antonio asks his Pá if he built Pepa a nest, the adults chuckle and say no, only birds do that. So Antonio asks if sex is also something only birds do. The silence is resounding and would have lasted forever if Camilo hadn’t broken out laughing. When he grows up he's the easiest adult in the family to talk to about puberty and wedding night jitters.
We know the warm color side of the family has game, Dolores had Mariano asking for marriage within one conversation, and despite having a very minor role in the movie Camilo has so many fangirls. Antonio is no exception. The little dude grows up with all the charisma of Félix and all the emotional intelligence of Mirabel, and there’s a roughly 7 year period between Camilo getting married and Dolores’ eldest coming of age where he’s the only single Madrigal of marrying age. Needless to say, he’s super popular with both men and women, but he’s also pretty content to just hang out with the animals all day. Until a girl a couple years younger than him gets caught kissing another girl by her parents. They are furious at her, and plan to force her to marry the first man they find that'll take an unwilling wife. Antonio finds her crying by the river, gets her to tell him what’s wrong, then says he’ll marry her and she can keep seeing her girlfriend. She asks multiple times if he’s sure, and doesn’t he want to fall in love, marry his soulmate? Antonio just shrugs, he’s happy as he is. So she agrees, her parents jump on the chance to marry her off to a Madrigal, and they get hitched.
This next part is the reason I put the warning up at the top, you can interpret it as Antonio and the girlfriends all wanting kids and going for the obvious solution, or you can interpret it as polyamorous Antonio. I sure as hell haven’t made up my mind which it is. But, he has two kids with his wife, then her girlfriend moves into Antonio’s room and they have two kids too. Nobody is sure what to think, but at this point the family is getting pretty big, and both women love cooking so whenever somebody asks Alma what she thinks of the situation she says “Not only can Antonio have as many wives as he wants, but if Isabela has another son, I’m sending Antonio to culinary school with a bag of engagement rings.” Nobody knows whether or not she’s joking, but it’s hard to argue with that. (Side note, I figure each generation has an average of three kids per Madrigal. So, factoring in spouses, by the time the youngest grandkid is having his third child that's roughly 36 mouths to feed. Which leads some people in the village to argue that Alma is serious and rightfully so.)
His kids are close enough in age that people sometimes forget what child came from which woman, and all of the kids call both women Mama and Mami. He’s pretty happy with his small army of offspring, he’s a pretty chill dude and after spending most of his life dealing with wild animals he takes to parenthood like a duck to water. This makes it even harder for anyone to complain about his strange situation, because all of his kids are so happy and well behaved.
He ends up with a pack of domesticated jaguars that follow him around. The one time a dangerous gang got into Encanto, Antonio sent some jaguars after them and that pretty much took care of that.
Even once his own kids are all grown “Tío Nio” can be found with a pile of children on top of him while he calmly reads a medical journal. There are more healers in the family than just Julieta by now, but none of them can completely heal disease, and pregnancy is still a complicated process for all species. So he reads up as much he can in order to help the animals of the village.
He is the best person to go to for relationship advice. There are plenty of people in the family who can tell you the most charming way to behave in a relationship, and Mirabel will tell you the most mature way to behave, but Antonio blends charm and maturity like no other. For example: at one point one of his nieces accidentally rubs salt in the wound that is her husband's bad day, she apologizes but he is still visibly upset. She doesn't know if he's still upset about his bad day, or if she hurt him more than she realized and needed to give a bigger apology, so she turns to her Tio Nio. He tells her to set up a day out they'll both enjoy, that way if she needs to apologize she'll have a whole day of meaningful gestures prepared, and if she doesn't she still gets the chance to spend time with the man she loves.
Thank you again for the ask! Hope you enjoyed some of these.

Jewish!Madrigals and their favorite (Jewish) holidays
Expanding on the list of headcanonons I started in this Bruno-centered post!
Alma loves lighting the Shabbat and Chanukah candles. She usually dreads doing tashlikh* on Rosh Hashanah, and cleaning before Passover, both being symbols of “letting go” (positive symbols, but hard on her emotionally). Yizkhor can be difficult for her too.
*This is where Jews symbolically cast off their sins during Rosh Hashanah. Usually bread gets thrown in a moving body of water. Yizkhor is a prayer service for remembering loved ones who have died.
Julieta loves Rosh Hashanah, a big family holiday celebrating the New Year, which includes a lot of good food. Her least favorite is probably Passover because of the food restrictions.
Pepa loves Chanukah because she enjoys lighting the menorah and singing the blessings. Her favorite character is Judith (who resurfaced as an important figure to the conversos* in the earlier centuries of the CE). She has a lot of happy memories, as well as romantic ones involving Félix.
*Spanish Jews who were forced to convert to Christianity and who may or may not have continued to practice Judaism in secret. Also, the basis for my headcanon that the Madrigals are descended from conversos and therefore have Jewish ancestry.
Bruno loves Sukkot because he gets to build a sukkah (a hut) that is partially open to the sky and stars. When Sukkot falls “late” in the year and coincides with the triplets’ birthday, they get to celebrate and eat in the sukkah together. I’m going amend what I wrote in the post linked at the top and say that Bruno doesn’t love Purim because the idea of booing/drowning out the villain’s name whenever it’s mentioned is a painful thing for him.
Isabela loves Tu Bishvat, the New Year of the trees, and organizing the Seder* for the holiday (featuring different Colombian fruits and nuts!). I imagine she also likes Shavuot quite a bit and sometimes competes with her sisters and cousins over who can remain awake the longest (you’re supposed to stay up studying all night on Shavuot eve).
*Similar idea as the Passover Seder: a ritual service "ordered” around symbolic foods on a plate.
Dolores loves Shabbat because it’s a break from a noisy world of work and creation. She gets to luxuriate in the relative quiet of the day and read side by side with her mamá and baby brother.
Luisa loves Purim for the story. She admires Esther quite a bit. She probably also likes Shavuot because the food is very dairy-centered and there are a lot of cheesy dishes in Colombia (I can’t get over the calcium helps make bones strong connection with her).
Camilo loves Purim because it’s a topsy-turvy holiday of excess and fun. He slays the costume contest every year. He also likes Chanukah and thinks the buñuelos taste extra special during this week.
Mirabel loves Shavuot, and Sukkot, because she loves the themes of inclusion. For her, the story of Ruth and Naomi, from the Book of Ruth, is a beautiful tale of loyalty and family. Yes, all three of the Madrigal sisters like Shavuot.
Antonio loves Shabbat because he gets to spend a quiet day with his big sister. He always asks about the animals in the Torah (and vehemently protests the ancient practice of animal sacrifice once he learns about it). He also enjoys hearing Tío Bruno tell the story of Passover every year.

Info about Papa!Villian!Bruno
Tw: murder, child abuse
After Bruno had the vision of Mirabel and the cracks in a panic he decided to kidnapped Mirabel and take her out of the Encanto, believe that it would be safe for her
He accidentally took Camilo as well, not noticing that Camilo was sleeping next to Mirabel
The trio move to a subburb area near Bogotá
Bruno decided to take Camilo because he and Mirabel were close and he didn’t want Camilo to be force to use his gift and help the community and not have a childhood
He wanted to take the older kids as well but he couldn’t since that will be a big red flag if all the kids and Bruno left
Somewhere along the way Bruno protect of Mirabel grew into an obsessive and now instead of making the vision not come true, he’s going to make it come true.
Again, he’s a villian in this story.
Camilo end up becoming Mirabel protector “she said to jump you say how high”
Mirabel grew up to have a normal childhood; friends, crushes, school ect.
Everyone and even Mirabel and Camilo, think that the two are twins
Camilo dosnt have the best childhood, and he takes his anger and hate out onto Mirabel
The kids wear green
A few days before Mirabel and Camilo birthday (March 6) Mirabel’s childhood bully, Sofia De León, is found dead.
Sofia De León dad owns a underground ring/black market thing. Bruno works for him
Lots of rumors think Camilo murder Sofia. He did
Camilo stalk and physically and physiological torture Sofia
Sofia was only Mirabel bully for a month before she stop. It was when they were 9, she dies when she was 14
Camilo and Bruno also mentally and physically experiment on Mirabel, Camilo has her drink his blood, Bruno gives her drugs. They think the magic is inside her and it just needs to be forced out
The town the trio lives in is called Cantaría. The town is nestled somewhere between the Magdalena River and Andes mountains
Bruno teaches Mirabel and Camilo magic, their witches! Bruno a sea witch, Mirabel a embroidery/cottage and music witch, and Camilo is a bone witch
Bruno has thick wavy hair and keeps it in a ponytail, he works as veterinarian and use his vision to pay for bills
Bruno also has Psychometry
Camilo has a second gift to wipe or rewrite memories
Julieta can heal people and can create humanoid plant life.
Pepa can read people's thoughts and can change and create weather with her emotions.
Camilo has red curly hair and freckles
Camilo started training (killing, stalking, bloodsports, ect.) when he was 10. Mirabel hates it since her brother comes home all bruised up she also left home a lot and is lonely
Camilo knows that Bruno is his uncle and Mirabel is his cousin. He also knows about the vision and the family. A part of him think he’s should tell Mirabel but he doesn’t. He want to help his dad but also not to. Not because he cares about the family, he’s just worried if the candle goes out, magic does too, then all the memories he took or rewrite will come back to his victim and then he’ll be sentenced to jail
Mirabel has three best friends: Mira Sevilla, Eva-Maria Costa, and Rebeca Cubero
The night of her birthday Mirabel get place in a ritual by her family. Mirabel friends try to save her, they failed and Eve got her leg chop off, and Rebeca got one of her arms chop off. Mira ran before she could get hurt
Bruno and Mirabel keep rats, Camilo is doesn’t like them.
Camilo didn’t really have any morals but he does care about his family, kind of. He still bullies and physically hurts Mirabel though. He will do anything once, just to try it or if he’s bored. but he won’t sexually hurt children or animals
Bruno think Mirabel doesn’t have magic because she doesn’t have Madrigal blood, he think either Agustin is not human or Julieta had an affair with a magical creature
After the ritual Mirabel gets periods of being very Ill and bedridden then she’s be normal again it’s a cycle. She also unawarely going through drug withdrawals.
Camilo smokes and drink as a coping mechanism he as a lot of issues
Mirabel is trying to figure out why two of her friend are missing body parts the day after her birthday and why are they acting different. It leads her down a rabbit hole about the town and her family
Camilo try to run away when he was 10, only to be found by tracking device
One night when Camilo is drunk and feeling sad he tells Mirabel that he murder Sofia, Mirabel as a breakdown and starts to question everyone and becomes paranoid she also has issues too.

Can we talk about the months it takes to rebuild Casita how all the gifted Madrigals now are without their gifts and how they deal?
Antonio only had a few days with his gift but he definitely sleeps with the stuffed jaguar Mirabel made him. Given back to him by Bruno when the dust settled.
Camilo has an identity crisis because he still wants to make people laugh and entertain them and now doesn’t know who he is without his gift to do it. Thankfully Bruno teaches him and is there to remind him he doesn’t need to make people laugh to get them to like him, but if he just enjoys it, he has just the thing.
Dolores at first enjoys the silence but soon she can’t sleep, and feels left out because people are so used to her already knowing things that were said. She starts intentionally eavesdropping on people, and needs noise to fall asleep too because it’s just too quiet.
Pepa actually enjoys not having to worry that emotions will cause bad and disruptive weather. And she is the most relaxed she’s ever been. So relaxed that she ends up pregnant by the time Casita is rebuilt, having spent any free time with Félix enjoying the nice weather not needing to be calmed down but actually enjoying his company.
Isabela while enthused about not having to be perfect takes this downtime to learn more about flowers and the things they need to grow without the presence of her gift. Specifically in plants that aren’t native to their little valley.
Luisa still over does it and needs to be reminded, by Mirabel, that she can hurt herself now and she needs to relax some days. And that she needs to find other things she’s good at despite her strength. Luisa then asks Mirabel to teach her how to sew and embroider, connecting with her sister after being so busy with helping the town.
Julieta is still a healer, knowing all the base herbs and homeopathic healing, but she is busier than ever and has to work harder. And she’s never been happier to not have to be stuck in the kitchen cooking. Instead she’s busy patching up scrapes, grinding dried herbs, doling out medicines and poultices. And the only time she is cooking is when she’s making soups and broths for the sick.
Bruno can actually talk to people, knowing there’s no vision to come with or without his ritual. He eases up, relaxes and reconnects with his family. He spends a good chunk of time with Julieta, helping her with the healing and the other half helping Camilo learn how to entertain without the use of his gift.

Encanto + religion
one of these days I will stop having Encanto takes but that day is not today
in usual Disney fashion there's about 0.01% mention of religion in this movie, but Colombia is heavily Christian and primarily Roman Catholic Church (modern day about 90% and 75% respectively) and we do see a church and a person who looks like a priest.
So can we talk more about how this might work - and not work - with the very undeniable miracle and magical gifts of the Madrigals? I'm not Christian or Catholic myself so I'd be fascinated to hear takes from people who are, but thoughts off the top of my head:
Raising mountains to hide refugees is very Old Testament, I could see people treating Alma as a bit of a Moses figure, which is part of why they take anything she says almost as a pronouncement
Julieta's healing fits Catholic sainthood pretty well. She might have gotten a lot of association with the Virgin Mother? Definitely would have been isolating and might have made it hard for her to date if the whole town saw her as a sacred figure
Pepa's gift could go either way. On the one hand Catholicism doesn't like women with power and people definitely might have been scared of her, but on the other hand I could see it being spun as, like, angels love her so much that they bring rain when she's sad and celebrate with rainbows when she's happy
Bruno might have been seen as a prophet when he was a kid, but his gift doesn't fit either the older archetype of the wise man helping his people (since he can't always/ever prevent the bad things he sees) or the newer archetype of someone speaking The Word and converting the masses. His superstitions and rituals probably didn't help, his room definitely echoes old pre-Christian temples. Legit wouldn't be surprised if people started crossing themselves when he looked at them or describing him with demonic terms.
Then we get Isabela and we're right back in happy flower blooming female Catholic saint territory. Maybe that's part of the reason why no one ever pressed her to try growing crops or other kinds of plants?
Meanwhile Dolores has the least flashy gift thus far but hearing voices is right up sainthood ally so maybe angels are whispering to her? Maybe people would ask her really uncomfortable questions she couldn't answer, like, do you hear angels, do you hear Heaven or Hell, do you hear ghosts, etc.
Luisa is Sampson or something, easy, although there might be some awkward sex/gender questions but given everything these people have had to deal with thus far, a girl getting the super strength is honestly low on the ladder of difficult things to rationalize. Definitely would play into the villagers treating her like a free service though if she's being identified with Biblical figures who were given their strength to serve their people or faith
And then Camilo and the religious people are like ?????? I have found exactly zero about shapeshifting in the Bible so this could go any and all directions
Poor Mirabel probably had to deal with people wondering if she didn't get a door because she's unclean or a sinner or something, although anyone who saw the gifts as problematic to the faith might have seen her as the opposite, an innocent pure child born to redeem her family from their strange magics
Antonio talking with animals is easy, luckily, he's like David with the lions or Noah or whatever, he's honestly probably got the easiest gift to rationalize

Hi! I saw you were opening to writing headcanons! Could I request a headcanon for Camilo with a plus-sized reader? Preferably some fluffy headcanons about their relationship and maybe something where he comforts her when she’s feeling a bit bad? (But honestly I’d prefer fluffy 😅) Thank you so much! (And if this request makes you uncomfortable, feel free to ignore it!)
``camilo and a plus-sized! reader``
notes: please never think that this kind of stuff will make me uncomfortable!! i think it's important that writers try and include people of all shapes and sizes! this means if i ever write anything that doesn't have an explicit body type and makes someone feel as though theirs isn't properly included, lmk and i will try and figure it out!!!
the only time requests like these would make me 'uncomfortable' is if it was on something i do not properly understand or have adequate knowledge of. love u anon, thank u for the request <33
warnings: body insecurity :( fluff and angst are both labeled, though!
fluff:
-*smacks the top of camilo's head* this bad boy can fit so much unconditional love.
-no, but all jokes aside, i firmly believe he does not care
-as long as you have good chemistry with him and you can get along with his family, then what's not to like?
-any time your size is brought up he just smiles and goes, "just means there's more of you to love, mi vida!"
-thinks your cheeks are the cutest things
-has the constant urge to kiss and squish them when he wakes up and sees you first thing in the morning
-probably becomes a weird daily ritual
-it's out of love, though
-also means cuddles are a must!!
-like how could he not want them?? you're right there for the taking!
-doesn't even matter if you're busy, time for cuddles.
-honestly, that's basically it for your normal relationship. he doesn't really tend to anything different whether you're big or small!
-just stays supportive and prioritizes your happiness and comfortability
angst:
-despite the welcoming and accepting nature of encanto, there's still some days where you can't handle looking at yourself in the mirror
-and more often than not your lovely partner will notice
-if you're ever feeling insecure or bad about yourself and camilo figures it out then he's ready to prove your negative thoughts wrong.
-will give you space if you need it, or just listen to you if all you want is to have someone to listen
-or if you tell him it's ok, he'll hug you tightly and whisper all the reasons he loves you
-if it's just about your body he'll start going on a rant about how you're incredibly hot and cute and no matter what your body will be perfection to him
-but if you're taking it to where you think you don't deserve him because of it a part of him will get fired up
-not because he's mad at you or something, that's the last thing he'd be
-but because he'd feel like he should've done more to make you realize how much you truly deserve
-regardless of what kind of situation he will do his best to remind you how much he loves you (and how much his family loves you as well)
-and if it takes you a while to realize it then he's more than willing to wait for you

I BOUGHT THE JUNIOR NOVELISATION AND TOOK A PICTURE OF EVERY MOMENT THAT DEVIATES FROM THE MOVIE SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO: A MASTERPOST
There’s a small handful of embellishments not included here (mainly Mirabel thinking/feeling things that aren’t explicitly stated but can be pretty easily inferred from the movie). Turns out in this novel, Félix spits food directly onto Senora Guzmán’s plate and absolutely nobody is worried when Mirabel vanishes from Encanto. THANKS, EVERYBODY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, this technically is in the movie, but the mention that Antonio is very shy and barely speaks except to Mirabel is really good so it’s going here anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dang, Bruno getting thrown under the bus here. Seems a bit of a rough assumption make about him, even if it was correct.
Tumblr media
You heard her.... sweating?
Tumblr media
(And prior to this point, Mirabel confronts Luisa with the fact she “never sweats”. The lines are otherwise exactly the same.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
VISIONS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like this change. It makes a bit more sense that Abuela is like “hey, don’t talk to her again, shithead, you made her mess up”.
Tumblr media
Both Camilo and Félix spit food directly onto the table. Like father, like son. I can’t say I understand the change, but I do like that Camilo turns into Guzmán instead of Bruno/Mirabel. It’s also interesting to note that in the script, that’s Mariano’s mother, not his grandmother. (continued below)
Tumblr media
I would have loved to see this line from Mirabel in the movie.
Tumblr media
(Further proof that Mariano is king)
Tumblr media
Mirabel really just throwing Bruno under the bus here
Tumblr media
Bruno just calling Mirabel sweaty to her face for no reason then falling through the floor immediately. That’s one spin on events
Tumblr media
Bruno’s little rituals are different - presumably to be a bit less visual and easier to understand in the book. Anyway, continued below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s good to explicit with your boundaries, Bruno.
Tumblr media
I like the change from “this vision” to “my visions”. Bruno out here like, “The future’s not even certain! My power fucking sucks!”
Tumblr media
Mirabel really gets ragged on in this book. Way to be a dick, Camilo!
Tumblr media
Easily my favourite part of the book right there.
Tumblr media
Okay, this is the last Antonio detail I’m putting in, but I love that he’s like “my jaguar made ME feel brave, so it’ll do the same thing to my uncle”.
Tumblr media
This one has been mentioned before: it implies that Bruno’s visions are physically painful. When Jared Bush was asked about it, he said yes, the visions can be physically taxing. By the way, the next paragraph opened with the line, “Tío Bruno, our family needs you,” Mirabel said...
Tumblr media
Bruno goes into a weird trance at this point, rather than remaining cognizant. An odd change, but I kind of like it. I guess the young reader gets a bit of help to try and put the pieces together that “her” refers to both Abuela and Isabela in this context.
Tumblr media
A vote of confidence from Bruno (calling her the best of them), then a note of uncertainty (his line is changed from ‘When you save the miracle’ to ‘If you save the miracle’).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This entire exchange is different, and more explicit. The repetition of ‘open your eyes’ is wonderful and there are surprisingly no punches pulled. A+ for ignoring the canon here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mirabel gets it rough in this book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The rest of the story goes much as it appears in Alma’s flashback. Pedro’s killers are only ever referred to as “the dangerous men on horseback” - probably for the best in a children’s novel.)
Tumblr media
I forgot to take a picture of this particular line, but when Mirabel sees the butterfly flying over the river, she specifically remembers that Bruno said, “Follow the butterfly” while he was in his trance, which is why she walks into the river.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scene where Bruno reappears and then they go home goes word-for-word exactly the same as in the movie... except a flock of magic glowing butterflies follow them there. The family and townspeople are said to be hopeless, then brighten up when they see the magic light. Well... that explains why they’re happy to see Mirabel again, given that last time we saw everybody they were directly blaming her for destroying Encanto!
Tumblr media
(continued below)
Tumblr media
The family talk to each other about their feelings, which is honestly a great thing that couldn’t have worked in the movie but absolutely works here! Then they rebuild the house, uh, within a single day. Great job, everyone.
Below are the three pages of the epilogue, which takes place after the events of the movie, so I’ve included the whole thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mirabel gets her own room and a cute little door! Dolores gets married! We do get the idea, Mirabel.
Well, it’s worth noting that this novelization has been confirmed by Jared Bush not to be canonical - but it’s got some golden parts in it. Apologies for the image quality. I’d love to transcribe these into plain text, but I really don’t think I could manage that on my own - let me know if you’d like to help!
I’ll find a scanner and actually provide you with proper scans of the coloured middle pages, and the art from the sticker book, too.
This novelization was written by Angela Cervantes. She has several original children’s books, too! Be sure to check out her website!

I've seen people doing this and this movie obviously has a chokehold on my life so what better to do than list off my Encanto headcannons here we go
- The family now gets together to watch rat telenovelas written and directed by Bruno and Camilo, where Antonio helps interpret to the "actors" beforehand so they actually perform the script
-^ Luisa cries the easiest at said telanovelas, Isabela pretends not to be interested every time but still gets pulled in
-Camilo does slight of hand magic and is mediocre at it
-Dolores and Mariano eventually get married and have twins, and boy and a girl who's middle names are Pedro and Alma
- Young Bruno used to get prophecies in the form of nightmares before he developed his "ritual" for having visions
-Pepa was a scrappy kid with the classic Middle Child energy, she and Julietta (but moreso Pepa) also constantly called Bruno their "little brother" despite him only being like a few minutes younger
-Julietta was an artsy kid and often made gifts for her mom. when Mirabel didn't get a gift, Julietta taught her daughter how to cook and sew
-(I've seen people say this before but I just had to include it because it's adorable) Bruno would get picked on a bit as a kid but his sisters would always come to his side. Julieta would have food on hand to heal any cuts or bruises and Pepa would rain hell down on the bully
-the triplets used to have sleepovers all the time when they were little, especially after first getting their own rooms because they were lonely
-Dolores felt overshadowed by Isabela as a kid despite having a good relationship with her, but her and Luisa were always surprisingly close
-Camilo was the type of kid to make nonsense jokes, and Mirabel was the type of kid to laugh at them hysterically
-Luisa had a hard time controlling her strength and first, which led to quite a few broken vases or chairs, and some tears on her part. she eventually started working out to practice on control
-after the failed ceremony, Dolores heard Mirabel crying in the nursery and invited her to sleep in her room. some of the other kids did the same, and this went on for a few years
-Pepa and Felix met as pre-teens/teenagers and he instantly fell for her, but it took a bit for her to agree to go on a first date
-Augustín and Julietta on the other hand met as older teens/ young adults while they both happened to be on a walk. he saw her first and tried to pick a flower from a tree to give to her, but disturbed a beehive and got stung. she saw him, healed him, and the rest was history!
-(again this one isn't totally mine but I thought it was sweet so I added on) Dolores would have panic attacks as a kid and sometimes the only one who could soothe her was Bruno. he'd have her play with some of the sand from his room. after he hid away he knew she could still hear him, so if he noticed her panicking he would mimic the sound of falling sand, hence why she associates it with him
-and lastly, Camilo has his own babysitting service. after the events of the movie and realizing he's more than just a shape-shifter, Camilo would show himself more instead of constantly shifting into the kid's parent

Aight here we are lets go
So this is just an idea that was partly inspired by someone else on tumblr a couple days ago, and basically it's an AU where, instead of just disappearing into the walls, Bruno somehow ends up dying and (✨tadaa✨) he becomes a ghost
Everything is more or less the same, but instead of Mirabel finding Bruno, she finds Bruno's ghost
Gonna have a bit of an info dump HERE WE GO
So everything is the same up until just after the vision. Bruno basically panics and packs up any stuff he can carry before running off into the walls before anyone even notices he's gone
As to how he actually dies, I was thinking it might've had something to do with that hole inside the walls. After his vision he leaves just like in the film, but in his haste doesn't notice the MASSIVE GAP until it's too late to stop- it's not a long drop, but through some horribly bad luck he ends up breaking something, obviously ending up with a fatal injury
Dolores would probably hear him scream or something before he hit the floor, and that would probably be very concerning for her, but with the whole worrying-about-the-failed-ceremony bit going on there isn't time to tell anyone, so she keeps it to herself. No one even realises he's missing until someone (probably Pepa or Julieta) sees that the light from his door has dimmed/gone out completely
This would obviously cause some panic and confusion and Dolores FINALLY pipes up about what she had heard, which leads to the family (correctly) assuming the worst
The immediate aftermath of this assumption would probably just be a blur of chaos, with Abuela probably trying to calm everything down
And as for Bruno, he would wake up shortly after the fall, a little dazed and confused. He doesn't realise that he had even died, and instead believes that the fall only knocked him out and he was otherwise fine.
This whole situation would have taken place right after Mirabel's gift ceremony so everyone was be in pretty low spirits already, so they probably took this a little worse than they would have
I think some of the family wouldn't fully believe he was even dead at first, and/or be in a state of denial for a while. Like Pepa, for example, she would probably try to convince herself that Bruno had just wandered off and was completely fine, but after a while even she would have to admit that wasn't possible
Mirabel (and Camilo) would have been pretty young when this happened, so neither really remembers anything about it or about Bruno himself, they only know what everyone else told them - that he had just wandered off somewhere and was fine (they would definitely end up finding out the truth eventually, it's hard to keep secrets from these kids)
Bruno, on the other hand, wouldn't even realise he was dead until a while later, through some unfortunate event. He is, understandably, very freaked out by this and eventually makes the connection between the fatal fall and some kind of bad luck
This leads to those little superstitious things he does in the film (knocking on things, throwing salt over his shoulder, etc etc), to protect both himself and his family from any future "bad luck" - only now he is reduced to miming everything since he can't actually touch anything
He no longer has his "gift", per say, but occasionally visions will come in small flashes, without any need for a ritual, and they are both disturbing and very inconvenient
Since Bruno died inside the walls, though some kind of "ghost law" I have in my head he is now physically incapable of leaving the walls - not that he would really want to. Sort of like the ghosts from that BBC show, if anyone's watched that. This would probably be because someones soul (ghost) is "tied to" the place they died
Bruno can be seen but only by his family (yet another ghost law of mine, ghosts can be seen by those closest to them at their time of death - family, friends, etc)
Maybe his rats are ghost-rats too. Idk, I just think that would be a fun idea lmao
And now for some plot changes:
Mirabel still does the whole finding Bruno's vision thing, and still follows the rats into the passageway, but instead of the normal Bruno she sees a weird ghostly-looking version of him which obviously freaks her out
She chases Bruno through the passageway, and falls just as she would in the film, but instead of Bruno catching her his hand just phases right through hers, which obviously shocks Mirabel and causes her to fall
Bruno panics for a moment, thinking he killed his niece because that is exactly how he died, but because Mirabel has ✨plot armour✨ she's completely fine
She climbs out of the hole herself, but before she can even begin to question Bruno as to what's going on he does the "bye" and walks right through her. Again, Mirabel gets very freaked out but it soon dawns on her that Bruno is a ghost
Since there is no longer a need for the whole ritual, when Mirabel asks Bruno to give her a vision he, albeit reluctantly, does so
When casita collapses, the "restraints" that kept Bruno's ghost in the walls are no longer there, since, well, there are no walls to be kept in. He can now roam freely around the town and possibly even further, but tends to stay in and around the casita even after it is rebuilt, probably because wandering too far away from his place of death causes discomfort and possibly even pain. And besides, it's not like he would want to leave his family again. If anything, he's grateful that he can now interact with everyone...even if the whole ghost thing is a little awkward at first
Thats all I have for now - if anyone has any questions or ideas lemme know! Might write/draw something for this if anyone likes the sound of that :D

Wholesome Bruno HC
I completely headcanon that Bruno would adopt babies from another village after the mountains split and that he was nervous at first because he thought he was too old to adopt and thought he wasted his life trapped in the walls of the Casita but when he meets the twin babies, he instantly falls in love and with his Mama’s permission, he calls them Oscar and Pedro.
Bruno would be a wonderful dad, using his small involuntary visions to keep them safe from accidents but he refuses to see into their future completely, not wanting to worry himself and wanting his children to live freely. He would try his hardest to make sure his kids fit into the family, making sure that they play with their Cousins, Mirabel and Camilo easily accept and play with them and Antonio introduces them to animals the children may have never seen before.
I 100% HC that Camilo would use his powers to show Bruno’s children who lives in the village so that when they meet the villagers they will be less nervous since they’ve technically already seen them.
The twins would definitely follow after their father and pick up his OCD tics like knocking on wood or not stepping on cracks. At first Bruno was worried about this, not wanting them to end up with the same issue but eventually he realised they only do it because they want to be more like their Papa.
Also I definitely think that Abuela would be a protective grandma over her Brunito’s kids, since they are the children of her youngest kid and would worry about them playing with the encanto’s kids. As well as the fact that she let Bruno name his youngest son Pedro and when she hears her late husband’s name when it’s called, her heart soars a little.
And that on Oscar and Pedro’s 5th birthday, even though they didn’t prepare for it, the miracle decides that they are definitely Madrigals and blesses them with gifts. The gifts would be fully capable of helping both the family and the Encanto with Oscar’s gift being the ability to control earth and solids which in turn links to sand and things like cement and metal, making it easier for Bruno to conduct vision rituals and for Abuela to create houses for the Encanto.
Pedro’s gift would be linked to water and liquids, making it easier for Isabela to create life in desolate areas, reroute the rivers and wells for the Encanto and help take the weight off of his Tia Pepa somewhat by helping water crops when she is too stressed to change the weather.
I just really like the thought of Bruno still having children despite not getting married. I’ve headcannoned Bruno as OCD (Neurodivergent) and queer since I first watched Encanto and he has been the best boy in the whole movie.
PS, we NEED a series about Bruno...About the Madrigals so that the movie can explain more :(

You’re just like me, pt.9 [Finale]
Camilo Madrigal x female!reader
Disclaimer: I don’t speak Spanish, I apologise for any grammar mistakes
Tumblr media
Antonio's appearance in Bruno’s room was a surprise. And now, all four of them were in Antonio’s room. He wasn’t lying when he said about his big room. Using sand, Bruno made a huge circle on the ground. Mirabel and him sat down in the middle of it. Y/n picked up Antonio after the little boy gave Bruno a tiger plushie to ‘calm his nerves’. Bruno started his ritual and Y/n could only hold her breath. She didn't see much but she could hear them shouting something about fighting and hugging someone? When Bruno was finished, he explained that the only way to save the miracle is to hug Isabella. Y/n had a look of hope but it went away when remembered Mirabel’s relationship with Isabella.
The trio went out of the boy’s room and crouched. Mirabel only had to get to Isabella’s room but there was only one problem. Camilo was standing in front of her room, shouting his cousin’s and lover’s name.
“Let me handle this,” Y/n said as stood up and walked over to Camilo. When Camilo saw her, he rushed towards her, checking to see if she was alright. Y/n giggled and pushed him off.
“Mi vida, where did you go? I was worried sick! ” Camilo said, holding both of her hands. Y/n replied that she was in the bathroom but Camilo was even more confused by her answer.
“For an hour?” he asked. Y/n tensed up. She didn't think she would be gone for almost an hour.
“You know, uh, girl problems. Anyways, why won’t you tell me what happened while I was gone eh?” Y/n said, pulling Camilo by the arm. Camilo was confused but did it anyway. He didn't notice the subtle nod given by Y/n to Mirabel as she ran to Isabella’s room. Y/n led Camilo downstairs, where the Madrigal Family was pacing around. Abuela had gone to town to assure that there was nothing wrong with the magic. When Pepa saw Y/n, she sighed in relief, as she rushed closer to hug the young girl. Unfortunately, Pepa was snowing and before she could embrace the girl, Y/n had collapsed on the floor. Camilo rushed to his lover, checking her pulse. She was still alive and breathing but she was not opening her eyes. It was as if she was sleeping. This made Pepa more worried and the snow became thicker. Y/n was carried to the couch by Camilo, near the fireplace. Everyone was wondering why Y/n had collapsed. Then Antonio spoke.
“She’s an animal. She’s just hibernating,” He said as he pointed to his mother’s snow. All of them sighed in relief, except Pepa, who felt guilty. She therefore stepped away from Y/n and went to her room to calm herself. Her husband followed her with a cup of tea in hand. When his parents were gone, Camilo draped his ruana on Y/n to warm her up. He wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing but he could only hope.
While Y/n was sleeping, Camilo could clearly see her face. His love for the shapeshifter grew even stronger when he saw her up close. His mother should have already calmed down as he felt the temperature rise up again. After a few minutes, Y/n stirred, slowly opening her eyes. Camilo had thought that Y/n would wake up and kiss him like the princess and her saviour stories his mother would tell him when he was a child. Oh boy, was he wrong. Y/n woke up with a jolt and she was so surprised by Camilo’s closeness to her face that her immediate thought was to punch him in the face. Camilo stumbled back, holding his bloody nose.
“Oh my god! Are you okay?” She rushed to her lover. Camilo only laughed and stated that he could be Mariano’s twin now. Y/n only shook her head, took one of the arepas and gave it to him, He took a bite and he felt instantly better. Y/n pulled him up and led him to the couch. After making sure Camilo was fine, the couple cuddled on the couch. However, their alone time was interrupted when huge tropical plants grew around them. They stood up in alarm and saw Isabella and Mirabel hugging. Both of them were covered in bright, beautiful colours and just for a minute there, the candle lit very brightly. Camilo and Y/n held each other’s hands and Y/n breathed out, thinking that it was all over until Abuela opened the door, shouting at Mirabel. Y/n squeezed his hand as Mirabel started to fight back her Abuela, shouting about their family’s flaws.
“The miracle is dying because of you,” Mirabel said. There was silence for a while, before the ground started to shake violently. Cracks started to appear everywhere and Camilo pulled Y/n closer to him, not wanting to let go. The crack led to the candle and it fell off the window.
“Y/n, run away!” Camilo shouted, as he ran up the stairs to save the candle. But there was no way in hell Y/n was gonna leave him. She has powers as she will use them. Casita used the tiles to push the family out of the house as they shouted for the children to get out of danger, especially Mirabel. Y/n saw that Camilo was about to reach the candle when his powers failed him. Y/n shapeshifted into a large wyvern and flew towards her lover. Just before he reached the floor, she grabbed him by her legs and flew him out of safety to join him with his family outside. She flew back inside and did the same thing to Isabella. When she went outside, she looked around, making sure everyone was there. But one was missing. Mirabel Madrigal. She flew back, dodging the debris as she heard the family shouting out her name.
Y/n finally found the girl on the roof, holding a candle. However, Bruno’s tower was about to fall on her and Y/n knew she wouldn’t be able to fly out with Mirabel in time. Casita helped Mirabel down to the floor and Y/n immediately flew to the girl. Her body shifted to gorilla form and she hunched over Mirabel as huge pieces of debris hit her head. After making eye contact with Camilo, darkness began to blur her vision.
A few seconds passed and Casita finally broke down. Camilo was the first one to move. His heart pounded against his chest as tried to find his princess. It wasn’t hard to miss Mirabel shouting for help under piles of debris. Camilo rushed off and pushed off debris and he gasped when he came face-to-face with a huge unconscious gorilla.
Despite Mirabel's push, the gorilla did not move away from her. Instead, it simply fell to the ground with a loud thud. Camilo quickly rushed to the animal, shaking it. The animal finally shifted back to Y/n and Camilo kneeled down. He sighed in relief when he heard her faint heartbeat. Camilo and Mirabel made eye contact and he couldn't help but give her a disappointed look. He knew this wasn’t Mirabel’s fault but he did it anyway. He turned back to his lover and carried her out to safety. He was about to lay her down when her family ran to them. Her father took her away from Camilo in his arms and he wanted to walk away. He thought that he had failed Mr and Mrs L/n for not protecting their daughter but he was greeted with a hug from Mrs L/n.
“Thank you for making her safe,” Camilo only smiled and returned the hug. The L/n family went to the nearest tree for some shade and the remaining L/n children came over to help with the Madrigal family. Camilo didn't know what to do. He hated being homeless and now Mirabel couldn't be found. He glanced back to the sleeping figure of his lover, before joining his family to find his cousin.
It has been two weeks. Casita had been rebuilt thanks to the help of the residents of Encanto, but it was mostly the L/n family who did the most with the help of their powers. The whole time Camilo didn't talk to anyone and now they were having a party to celebrate. Camilo felt wrong celebrating without his lover so he only stood at the back, away from the crowds. He suddenly felt that his drink was more interesting than the party so he only looked at his cup. That was until his cousin, Mirabel, nudged him with her elbow.
“Look who’s awake,” She whispered before walking away to dance with Antonio. Camilo’s head shot up and he saw her, standing at the entrance. She was looking around, searching for him. They made eye contact for a while and Camilo finally found the energy to smile and run to her. Y/n also ran and when they reached, they hugged.
“Are you okay?” Camilo asked as he cupped her face with his hands. Seeing her in his hands felt so unreal, he even wondered if he was dreaming right now.
“Yeah, I am okay. Are you okay?” She asked him back, as she leaned her face to his hands.
“Who cares?” Camilo said.
“I do!” She replied, as she placed a kiss on his forehead. Camilo then held her by the waist and spun her around. Both teenagers laughed and held each other all night throughout the party.
And there we have it folks, a happy ending. Or is it?

The Day
(Story Post)
The sun had just set as the first guests arrived at the house. Lino put himself in charge of entertainment, so he greeted each guest as they came in. They just wanted to keep it mainly family and a few friends, just a little gathering and hangout, and food would be potluck.
Mr and Mrs Mannan arrived first, Lino and Dante’s parents, and they brought samosas, onion bhaji, chicken tikka, a baked ziti, and a bottle of Franciacorta. Dante had asked them ahead of time to keep it simple, they weren’t feeding a hundred people, but they insisted this was the bare minimum (as well as several desserts), and frankly there were several other dishes they wanted to bring but had cut out. Yori invited Nathan and Dax and they brought homemade cookies and blueberry bannock. As soon as they arrived, the triplets cornered Dax and told him how much they’d missed him as their teacher. He apologised and agreed to play with them for a while in the kid’s space of the party. With the twins at Korsgaard’s house for the evening, Nathan went and mingled with the adults, generally sticking around Yori as he often did during group. The dog spirit’s calm yet somewhat chaotic personality made conversations fun and interesting, and frankly he felt very grateful to be invited at all to such an event. Sydryn showed up shortly after the couple bearing a French charcuterie platter and strawberry cheese tarts. They had initially considered declining the invitation because they didn’t enjoy ‘mingling’ and ‘small talk’, plus being the prettiest one in any room was exhausting… Originally, Syd had in fact invited Dr. Ix since they thought the Yulinian would enjoy the chance to observe a human ritual for research purposes, however Ix was quick to decline. But Köbi was a key guest and wanted Syd to go with them, so he reminded them that otherwise they were stuck at home with Seranan every night, so this would be a nice change for once. Sydryn folded and went as Köbi’s plus one. Dusty had also hesitated to RSVP, however Lino had invited him as a friend. Not to mention, it was a family event and Grey was family, so the option was either to go with him, or drop him off and wait at home worried about how Grey was doing with so many people around. He wasn’t much of a cook himself since he didn’t really need to eat food, so he brought a pinot noir. He stuck around Lino and Vi for the night, occasionally checking on the children when they hung out in the bedroom. Fay arrived a little later than he planned. The original plan was for he and Dari to attend, but Dari decided rather last minute that he didn’t want to go because it was too many people he didn’t really know, but he insisted Fay still go so he could tell him about it. Not to mention, he didn’t feel like it was fair to Camilo to babysit now that he had his own child to worry about. Fay was pretty sure Camilo didn’t mind, but he called and cancelled with him anyway and went over to the party on his own. He also kept Dusty company and mused over his and Lino’s wilder days before they both became parents. He brought over his favourite seafood paella, knowing full well there likely wouldn’t be a lot of pescatarian dishes for himself and Vi coming in from guests. Last to arrive was Lino and Dante's sister, Siena. She apologised a lot because she’d flown in from university the day before and had every intention of being on time, but her high school friends had insisted on a day out and they kept her out longer than she’d planned. Their mother gave her a few scolding words, but truly everything was meant to be as casual as possible and as long as everyone was there, that's all that mattered. There was no schedule, everyone could eat when they wanted to, chit chat, play some games. That night everyone found out that Vi was absolutely terrible at charades, and Köbi was a whiz at Texas Hold ‘Em. While Sydryn was unbeatable at Scrabble, Fay was abysmal at it because he kept forgetting they all had to be English words. The kids entertained themselves for the most part with snacks and LEGO in the triplets' room, but they did join the adults occasionally for more family oriented group games. Around 9pm that night, everyone was still enjoying themselves and socialising, but Ruben, Dante, & Yori excused themselves to go outside to the backyard. The adults in the room paused, giving them their attention, but the three just smiled to them all and said they'd be right back. Lino nodded to his brother and asked everyone left to get their phones out for some Jackbox games, and that kept everyone well occupied for the time being while his brother and his partners were out. In the back, it was dark out, but the yard was lit dimly by fairy lights wrapped around an arch. Köbi snuck out a little earlier to prepare and met them with a warm smile as they joined him. Dante adjusted Ruben's bow tie. Yori took both their hands. When they returned to the party just a few minutes later, Vi nudged Lino to alert him. Lino grinned and went to meet them at the back door more privately. “Did you do it?” Yori proudly held out his partner's hands, showing off the simple but elegant wedding bands on all of their ring fingers, two per person. Ruben was in tears but he was trying desperately to maintain his composure. “We did.” Dante slapped a hand on the back of Lino's neck and gripped it teasingly. “Now, it's your turn.” “Ugh, shut up... This is your day.” Lino chuckled. “Yulinians don't believe in it, anyway.” “But do you?” Dante asked, patting his back. “Not really, no,” Lino admitted. “But, anyway, this isn't about me. Come on. Let’s celebrate!” Dante squeezed Ruben's hand as Lino ran back to the living room to get everyone's attention. “Hey! Everyone shut up!” Lino said to an already quiet and waiting group. “They're married!” The room erupted into applause. Köbi slipped past them beaming after his first ever officiation, going to find Syd hiding in the kitchen with Dusty so he could tell them all about it. Mr and Mrs Mannan got up to give their son and sons-in-law hugs. Siena got her chance too just after them, making sure to give her eldest brother a good squeeze. “Never thought you had it in you,” Siena said messing with his hair. “Honestly, same... I never thought I'd get married,” Dante admitted. “And suddenly you have two husbands,” Siena teased. “0 to 100 really quick.” “I wouldn't say raising our kids together for the last 6 and a half years is quick...” Siena just shrugged. “Well, I'm really proud of you.” “Little sisters don't get to say that. You sound like ma.” “That is because I made her!” his mother said, wedging herself between them for another hug. “Mimmo, I am so so proud. My biggest boy is married! Mio passerotto... I am going to cry...” “Ahhh, don't cry, Mama...” Dante said. “Relax... Let's go sit down.” “Okay, okay...” As Dante guide his mother back to her seat, his father chose to corner Ruben. “So, your parents couldn't be here, huh?” “No. They couldn't make it,” Ruben said. “That's a shame. I was looking forward to meeting them,” his now father-in-law said, patting his arm. “Trust me, you don't want to meet the de Vrieses... Miserable people,” Ruben stated. “My father especially.” “But it's your wedding day, son,” Mr Mannan said. “Something any parent wants to be involved in. Even if they are just sitting inside while you have a little secret wedding in the back.” “Yeah, none of us are big on huge...traditional events. But listen, Mr Mannan—” “Harshveer, please,” his father-in-law said. Then he nudged his arm. “Or Harsh... Or Dad, eh?” Ruben smiled. “Harsh... My parents cut themselves out of my life. They don't even know I'm gay, let alone that I have a family. I'm happier without them in my life.” “Well, son... You know, as a parent, it's a little hard to hear,” Harshveer said, rubbing Ruben's back. “I would be heartbroken were my children to ever think of me that way.” “Sure, but you and Mrs Mannan are very lovely people and your kids wouldn't have any reason to say what I'm saying. And I'm very happy to have you in our family. You know, I'm a parent too. I understand. I would be devasted to hear the same from my kids. But I strive to be the kind of parents you are to my children, so they may never deal with what I went through with my folks...” His father-in-law smiled and nodded slowly. “I appreciate that... And as far as I see, you're a good father. You should be proud.” “Thank you...” In the opposite corner of the room, Yori had plunked himself down on the couch between Nathan and Dax, eager to show off his wedding rings. “I've decided the left is for Ruben and the right is for Dante,” he was saying. “Or maybe the opposite... No, that's right.” “Six rings must have been expensive,” Dax commented, looking at the wedding band on Yori's left hand. “I didn't really care if we got them, but Ruben and Dante insisted,” Yori said. “They wanted to make sure we were all equally involved in this wedding, even if it really is just them getting married.” “What do you mean, just them?” Nathan asked. “You’re not married to them?” “Well, I am for what it's worth,” Yori said. “That's what the rings are for. But I’m just a spirit.” Dante came over when he overheard. “Yori means, he can't be married on paper,” Dante said. “Because he doesn't really have a legal identity... Not to mention, it is illegal to be married to more than one spouse in Canada.” “Oh, true...” Nathan said. He rubbed his forehead. “I just don't know how you manage to keep things...you know, balanced between the three of you.” “Well, it's not really a matter of balance,” Yori said. “My relationship to Dante is different from his relationship to Ruben which is different from Ruben's relationship with me. They're just different.” “Right, and it was Yori's idea anyway that Ruben and I should get married,” Dante said. “Can't really be worried about him when it's his idea.” “Why did you want them to get married?” Dax asked. Nathan elbowed him. “Dax! Kinda rude? We're literally at their wedding.” “I'm just curious!” Dax said. “It's fine,” Yori said. “And, I wanted to because I knew Ruben wanted to but was worried about me.” “So, Ruben's the hopeless romantic in the relationship,” Dax deduced. “I see.” “Yeah, that's about right,” Dante admitted. “I'm not really the romantic type... And Yori's not really the serious type.” Yori just nodded in agreement, beaming. “I don't need romance, just cake. And a wedding is a good time to get cake, so I've heard.” Dante rolled his eyes. “You'll get your cake. We'll pull it out and cut it after the kids go to bed so they aren't wired all night.” “What, they don't get any cake?” Dax pouted. “At their own parent's wedding?” “They'll have some tomorrow,” Dante said. “Yori's kids are little cake goblins like him though, so if we want any cake, we have to keep it from them.” “I'm not a goblin, I’m a spirit,” Yori corrected. “I know. It was a joke,” Dante said. “And anyway, they really enjoyed the bannock you two brought.” Dax lit up. “Thank you! It was my first time trying to make it, and I'm really happy how it turned out.” “Yeah, turned out perfect, love it,” Dante said patting his back. “Yori...” Nathan started. “You're due in, what, a week or two?” “Yep. Two and a half weeks,” Yori said, proudly rubbing his stomach. “Must be excited,” Dax said. “Four kids, though! Incredible.” “Five kids,” Yori said. “Five?” Dax questioned. “I only know the triplets...” “He means's Grey,” Dante said. “Grey's my son with Dusty. You may have seen them, although I think they've been upstairs most of the time...” “I don't remember seeing any children older than the triplets,” Dax said, to which Nathan gave him another elbow to the side. “What?” “You're so nosy...” Nathan said. “It's their wedding day.” “It's alright,” Dante said, waving it off with a smile. “But you may have guessed, Grey's the little one. My eyes. It's not what you think, but it's a bit complicated.” “Demons have their own way of reproducing,” Yori said. “Dante and Dusty never had sex.” “Demons?” Dax asked. “Yeah, Dusty. Don’t worry about it,” Nathan said. “I'm not worried about it,” Dax assured. “But my interest has been piqued.” “Leave it alone,” Nathan insisted. “Anyway... Yori, you must be excited for the little one on the way.” Yori nodded happily, rubbing the side of his stomach. “I miss having a little baby... They get older and they go to school and I have no one home with me. I just want another little baby to snuggle with and care for. It's the best stage.” “You know, they'll just get older too,” Dax commented. “I know... But I want to feel it again, even just for a little bit,” Yori said. “Before the triplets, I never even thought I could raise a baby... My job was to just make them and send them away, but when Dante and Ruben said they wanted to raise them with me, it was... It was all very exciting and new.” “By send them away...” Dax inquired. “He means he was going to deliver them to the spirit world where he came from to grow and be spirits like him,” Dante said. “But they were our children and we wanted them.” “I mean, yeah... Of course,” Dax said. “Listen, back then, I will admit, we didn't know a substantial amount about each other,” Dante said. “Ruben’s relationship with Yori had forced him out of the closet which was very uncomfortable for him, and there was a lot of misconceptions surrounding the pregnancy... Not to mention, misbehaviour on my part... Honestly, I don't know how it all worked out the way it did, but here we are. At our wedding.” Ruben managed to pull himself out of a deep conversation with Dante's father so he could join them and sat down in Dante’s lap. “What’s up, big guy?” Dante said, a bit winded under the 6’5” man’s weight. “Did my Dad talk your ear off?” “Naw, he’s cool.” He patted his lap. “Yori.” Yori perked up. “Oh?” Dante started to try to push Ruben off. “Oh no, no…” Yori got up much quicker than a full-term pregnancy should have allowed and then plopped himself back down in Ruben’s lap, making Dante groan in pain. “Geez, come on guys… Really?” Dante gasped. “What? Your husbands want to be close to you,” Ruben said. “Oh, is that it, huh?” Dante sighed. “At least get your bony butt off my thigh…” “It’s not bony…” Ruben shifted his weight so his rear rested between Dante’s legs. “Better?” “Oh my god, yeah. So much better.” Dante kissed Ruben’s cheek and then down to Yori’s belly. “How did I manage to marry such handsome men?” Ruben blushed just looked down to Yori. “…I love you both so much.” “I love you too,” Dante said, smiling. “I’d love you more if my legs weren’t numb…” “Too bad,” Ruben said. “Yori dozed off.” “So cute…” Dax mused, taking the chance to slide closer to Nathan now that Yori had vacated the spot between them. “Nathan, would you like to sit in my lap?” “Naw, that’s okay…” “Can I sit in your lap, then?” “Haha, no.” Dax pouted. “You’re no fun.” Nathan sighed. “Well, you can get me a drink and I’ll think about it.” Dax shook his head. “You shouldn’t be drinking, remember?” “You can’t drink?” Dante asked. “Why? Meds or something?” Yori popped up from his nap like trodden rake. “Nathan’s pregnant.” Nathan flushed. “Dax…” “No, well, we’re not sure yet,” Dax said. “But we’re trying.” “Nathan’s definitely pregnant,” Yori said. “I can smell it.” “Oh wow!” Dante said. “Congrats, you two!” “Please, it’s your day,” Nathan insisted. “This isn’t about us…” Dante waved a hand. “It’s cool.” “But if you want us to leave it alone, we will,” Ruben said. “We understand not wanting to talk about it until it’s a sure thing.” “It is a sure thing,” Yori stated. “I’m not wrong.” “No one says you are, Yori,” Dante said. “But we have to respect their privacy. The whole point we had our wedding so privately was because we wanted to do in a comfortable and intimate way. Pregnancy can be the same way.” Yori sighed. “Okay…” From across the room, dinging rang out as Lino tapped a champagne flute with a knife. “Alright, everyone shut the fuck up!” “Lino, language!” “Sorry, Mama,” Lino sighed. “Anyway, I wanna do my best man speech real quick so we can move on to putting the kids to bed and getting my brother fucking wasted!” “Lino!” “I swear, Mama! I’m an adult!” “We don’t have a best man, Lino,” Dante said. “There’s no wedding party.” “Well, I’ve appointed myself best man and I wrote a speech and you’re gonna hear it,” Lino said. “Alright, Yori, up…” Ruben said, patting his husband’s shoulder. Yori whined. “Whyyyy?” “Because toasts need drinks and I should grab some for us and our guests,” Ruben said, lifting him off him. “Nathan, we have some ginger ale for Yori and the kids if that works for you too.” “Oh, um, sure.” “You can stay sitting, Slenderman,” Lino said. “Vi’s gonna pass around some drinks. Vi!” Lino called into the kitchen. “Ginger ale for Nathan too!” “Understood!” Vi called back. Yori happily jumped back into Ruben’s lap and everyone waited patiently as Vi came around with their drinks. Fay and Dusty ushered the kids into the room to listen as well and everyone settled down to listen. “I remember the day I first met Dante…” Lino started. “No, you don’t,” Dante interrupted. “You were literally ten minutes old.” “Well, I remember you were always a smartass. Anyway… I remember the day I first met Ruben. Piece of work that guy, let me tell you. But I knew. I KNEW immediately he was deeeeep in the closet. Like so deep, my brother would have to go all the way into Narnia and defeat the White Witch to pull him out. But, apparently all it took was supernatural intervention! In drops a dog named Yori. I remember the day I first met Yori…”

Hi, could I request another Camilo x Reader fic? if it's not too much trouble and also if it's not too overwhelming.
After a few years (you can choose how long) from the events of Encanto, Dolores and Mariano are finally getting married (my favs ♡♡♡). All Encanto was happy and celebrating, especially Pepa, who couldn't stop smiling for a second (it didn't rain once in the week that Mariano asked for Dolores' hand). The whole village was busy with the preparations for the party, gift or not, everybody helped.
(Mirabel was going to sew Dolores' wedding dress, I'm sure, have you seen the skills of this girl?)
Camilo was a multi-tasker (like Felix, Agustin and Bruno), practically. He did everything, from helping his tia Julietta (and other people who wanted to help) with the wedding banquet, bringing new threads and cloths to Mirabel, keeping an eye on the village children when the parents could not, checking that Alma, Pepa or Luisa were not working too hard, pampering Dolores or checking that everything was okay with the (almost) "New Madrigal" and so on.
In one of his tasks, he meets Y/N again. He already knew Y/N from around town, she was a Guzman, prima/hermana (you can choose) of Mariano, to be more exact. They both had a little crush on each other, which only grew and then they started a kind of secret romance (taking advantage that Dolores couldn't hear lol) while Casita was being rebuilt.
During a short lunch break, Camilo and Y/N ate while playing or doing those things boyfriends and girlfriends do. Until, the shapeshifter boy notices 2 familiar green eyes watching them, it was his rehabilitated tio Bruno who had caught him in the act and was now walking quickly to Casita. It's not that Camilo was ashamed of Y/N or vice versa, but they both decided that they would keep it a secret so as not to "spoil" Mariano and Dolores' special week/day and also because they still felt shy about their courtship. But he was sure that his tio Bruno would not be able to keep his secret from any of his twin sisters, and that one of them was his mother.
When they arrive at Casita, the Madrigal family is having their lunch outside, with Mariano and Mrs. Guzman. They are invited to join them, and while another one of those wedding talks is going on, Camilo tries his best to keep his tio from opening his mouth. You know the part where Mirabel tries to stop Dolores from telling her family about Bruno's vision? That's pretty much it.) Then, when Alma asks someone to get her an Arepa, both of them, in a moment of nervousness, try to grab the food and their fingers collide. At this very moment Bruno has a vision (so, as I haven't watched Encanto yet, I don't know if Bruno needs the whole ritual to have his vision or just has the involuntary ones, like Raven from That's So Raven. So, I'll go with the involuntary ones), his eyes glow blooming green and he is paralyzed and since his fingers collided with Camilo's, his vision is transmitted to him too (you know when a hero has invisibility and he can make others invisible by touching them? Almost like that). The vision told that his romance with Y/N was going to be forcibly revealed, and worse, at Dolores and Mariano's wedding! He was now in the worst scenario possible. While receiving the vision, Camilo didn't realize that he was changing form between Y/N, Dolores and Mariano while the whole family watched. When he returned to consciousness, Bruno's face was all "Oops, hehe, sorry, sobrino" as everyone at the table tried to understand what had just happened.
Pretending that nothing had happened, dinner continued until the visitors (who would soon no longer be visitors, but from home) left. When they finally left, Pepa and Dolores were quick to confront the two men about the event and what was in the vision. Dolores was sure it was to do with her marriage, how could it not have to do with her brother turning into her, her future husband and her future sister-in-law/cousin? And considering the reputation of her tio Bruno's visions, her marriage could have been over already. Pepa starts to thunder, and accuse her brother, but Alma defends her Brunito, saying that he is just stressed by the events - sorry about that, it's just that I need a mother and son moment, after so much suffering - Pepa asks Camilo what he saw, he assures her and Dolores that there would be nothing wrong with the marriage (itself). Still with upset spirits, everyone returns to their business.
Camilo's life seemed ruined.
(sorry it got so long, it wasn't my intention, really)
(I should have summarized most of this, but my brain is barely functioning because I barely slept again. So I just kept writing)
(I even shrunk it down to make it look smaller hehe *starts crying*)
(I'm really sorry :((((()
(If this seems too weird I'm sorry too)
(Ignore this if the requests are closed, forgive me)
(I'm starting to regret it already here)
Hello my dear!
It's certainly an interesting idea you have here and I'll be glad to take that challenge. Although it's very long and it'll may take some time for me to write this, I'll do my best 😁
Please, please, don't apologize. Everything is okay. Breath in and breath out. The request is perfect as it is. Please, don't regret sending this to me. In fact, I'm glad you're writing to me. It gives me inspiration and motivation to do my work! I'm here for you, if you need me.
P.s if you can, try to get some sleep. I'm not one forcing someone I don't even know to do things! But...I wish to all my readers to be healthy and happy 😊

more things:
when Camilo shapeshifts into pseudo-Bruno, he's about the right height. he knows perfectly well he's just screwing with Mirabel.
when Mirabel is pissed about the vision Bruno mutters "every time." and tosses it, figuring she's assumed the worst and he hasn't helped etc etc. but she actually does promptly take it to heart! and follow it and figure it out! and it helps!
Isabella spends most of the first part of her song ignoring Mirabel while she's trying to skip to the end (hug), but as soon as Mira stops doing that they have a bit of back and forth. also Isa's punk dress is great.
I wonder how Bruno came up with the whole ritual thing. he's obviously superstitious, but I wonder how it manifested when he was, like. twelve. how'd he use it then.
I also wonder if his tower got taller and more inhospitable as he withdrew from people and it just stuck that way when he left it. did he make the ☝️YOUR FUTURE AWAITS☝️ thing or was that just. there.
do Mirabel (and Abuela) have a stronger connection to the house itself than anybody else or is that just me?
well. this got long.
YEAH I noticed that too for that verse of the song! He only gets taller *just* for the line about how tall and scary he is, then goes back to normal height.
The "every time" kills me because he's so used to people being angry and disgusted with him after he has a vision for them, and beforehand was so nervous about her doing the same and not wanting to ruin her view of him, and for a bit there he thinks that's exactly what happened :(((
For the ritual, I believe it's something he does to focus and emotionally prepare himself before having a vision, so he probably cobbled it together from things that made him feel calm and in control.
I used to think that the room was always that way, but the creators confirmed that it began to change and get more difficult to reach even before he went into hiding, and then got REALLY bad after he left. Which is honestly a relief because the idea of five year old Bruno being stuck in that room is Too Much
