I feel like i should start writing down every note in the game before a new region comes out.... i need to keep on top of things. Do i Need to so this? No. But i want to. And who knows what lore is hidden in those things nobody (including myself) reads.

I thought of writing down npc dialogue too, but a lot of it will be irrelevant and tldr its gonna be way too long. I ll probably keep track of anythin they say that sounds lore relevant though

I put it to you that Scaphiophryne marmorata is peak frog.

Why?

Well first, it's pretty round, which is key.

Now get a load of those fingers.

Big, expanded discs at the end, ideal for climbing.

But what's happening back there with those toes? No discs there. Those are good for walking and hopping around on the ground.

Now, let's gently turn them over

First, excellent tum, 17 out of 10, no notes.

But what's that at the base of the foot? Those big projections? Yep, those are spades. This climbing, hopping frog is an excellent digger!

I like to think of these Scaphiophryne as all-terrain frogs. They're basically good at everything. They defy our categorical labels of 'arboreal', 'terrestrial', or 'fossorial', and say 'por qué no los tres?'—but in Malagasy, so 'nahoana no tsy izy telo?'

I think the most beautiful thing about writing of Howl and Sophie's pair is that they are written as people before being written as a pair. Let me explain this very quick.

The thing about book Sophie and Howl is that they are not really fully fitting into any "classic" romantic trope. They are not exactly enemies to lovers, as their angry chats are definitely cannot be considered a life or death battle, they are not rivals to lovers because the only aspect of rivalry between them is the cleaningness of Howl's room. They are not friends to lovers, as their relationship just doesn't fit into "friendship" structure at the very start, nor they are roomates (yes, they live in the same house but that's not the core aspect of their relationships). Of course, you can go on and fit the name of the trope you found specifically for them, but that's the thing.

They simply cannot be processed through a pairings lenses only, in order to understand how they act in relationship you need to analyse them separately, as a characters first of all. Cause that's what the book itself does!

Sure, it doesn't have a whole lot of romance instead, but it gives us time to learn and observe the life of incredibly written, alive characters, understand them as personalities first of all, while slowly immersing the dynamic between two characters (in this case, Howl and Sophie) into work. They are written as personalities, both being fully separated and interviewing, changing eachother's point of view.

It's difficult to find a trope for them. They're are not a trope. They are Howl and Sophie, and that's probably the only way their dynamic can be properly described. Just as real people, they are not really fitting into the boxes of linial character progression, but go way deeper into being complex, filled with little differences and moments only people with their personality can have in romantic (or any different) kind of interaction. They're imperfect, and silly, and multidimensional and the reader knows them well enough to imagine them interacting way beyond of what the book says to them.

They are being people before being a ship, a pair of a trope — and that's why they work so perfectly charming in the end.

Howl and Sophie are unique in being themselves.

What about intersex people? Their relationship with their agab can be a lot more complicated.

In some cases, intersex people start developing traits opposite of their agab, usually when they hit puberty. If they took steps towards preventing their body into developing into something they don't want, wouldn't that be the same as transitioning?

In other cases, intersex people might have different genitalia from what they're expected to have. I'm not aware of how gender is assigned in these cases, but if they tried to align the mismatched pieces of themselves with their agab, would they still be cis? Even if they started taking hormones or got surgeries to become who they wanted to be?

They'll often face the same experiences and obstacles as trans people, regardless of whether they align with their agab or something else. Especially in the case of intersex people, who don't align with the sex "binary," their agab is often just a word on a document to try and categorize them in a system that doesn't make the effort to acknowledge their existence.

Shouldn't we let them decide whether or not they were transitioning, rather than defining them as "not really trans" for trying to be their agab? Shouldn't their own experiences and feelings about what they went through give them the validation to define themselves?

Well you see generally if you take steps to align yourself with your assigned gender you’re probably cis.

This has something to do with a short convo I had with @eri-pl, but basically my interpretation of who Lúthien even is boils down to "her own category of Eruhini, with caveats".

General disclaimer that this is all my personal interpretation even if I'm phrasing it as categorical truth.

She patently shouldn't be called even a half-Maia if we're to be accurate, because it doesn't really make sense as a term. She (a) was not part of the Ainulindalë and (b) she's naturally incarnate, but I think that metaphysically speaking she cannot be counted as an elf either. (My personal headcanon is that Lúthien can change her fate while Beren cannot change his because Beren is fully a man and she is not in fact one of the firstborn.)

However, taking into account what I stated above, I do believe that by choosing the fate of mortals, she did in fact cleave closer to her heritage through her mother than to elvenkind, elves being (dwarves aside et cetera) the one kindred that cannot be outside Eä, simply put — and I would even posit that, power and abilities notwithstanding, her chosen fate would really make her final metaphysical status closer to a Maia/human hybrid than to anything else.
