just like a daddy should
MINORS DNI 18+ NOTES: this concept of dark!hayden is co-created/developed by @xstarkillerx | dead dove do not eat for emphasis on age gap relationship and heavy daddy kink content. dark!hayden is an au, it does not reflect my view of hayden christensen as a person. in this au he's not an actor. WARNINGS: dead dove do not eat | f!reader | dark!hayden | daddy content | age gap | problematic behavior | ass patting | mild exhibitionism | no y/n
Your heels clack against the wooden boards of the stairs, climbing them to invite yourself onto the resort staging set above the beach. The bodyguard steps aside for you, he knows who you're here with.
"—liquidating that branch'll do nothing for you here. You'll be bleeding yourself—" the sound of DARK!HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN's voice soothes your worries, approaching where he lounges on a cushioned chair. His elbow is hooked onto the corner of it, and his leg is folded up to rest his ankle on his knee. His outfit remarkably smart, white linen shirt tucked into gray dress pants and a thin black belt. Never mind his comfort, you ignore his companion, interrupt his conversation, and invite yourself onto his lap. He sees the stressed lines of your brows, and makes room for you right as you take your seat.
"Daddy." you whine. The strings of your micro-bikini catch on his clothes, and he discretely tugs down a cup to cover a bit more of the curve of your chest that'd been revealed. You frown at your hand, "I broke a nail. And I just got these done!" you cry, hopelessly examining the dejected state of your cracked acrylic, and you feel his breath against your shoulder as he looks over it. Gently, he envelopes your hand in his, drawing it in his line of sight.
"Oh, duchess, let me see." he sympathizes you, studying what you offer him while he palms your bare thigh. "Don't worry. We'll fix it later. I've gotta take care of some things here." he coos, his lips murmuring against your ear that shoots tingles up your spine. You sought comfort and attention, and that's exactly what he's given you. Hayden can see out of the corner of his eye how his associate cannot take his eyes off of you, nor the shameless display before him.
Hayden notes how rude you are, how you have no manners, ignoring his companion, neglecting to introduce yourself. The tenacity of being young and naive is so deliciously novel to him. So much so it brings entertained curls to the corners of his mouth. You pivot more into Hayden's direction, his hand sliding against your back as you do, and he settles into the cushion when you lean into him. Curious fingers latch onto the collar of his button-up, widening it's opening to expose more of his chest. Fingertips toy with the lines of his collarbones, watching yourself fidget, pouting at it. "I miss you." you say, hushed, and meet his patient gaze. He says nothing, so you take it as your cue to leave. You push off him, planting your high heels on the floor to stand. In newfound giddy energy, you show off your ass to him. "What do you think of my new tattoo?"
A little tramp stamp is visible right above your low waistband. As he lingers a glance on it, his expression hardens, and his voice lowers, "We'll talk about this later." A pat on your ass is your signal to get going, intent to avoid making a scene here. No one said you can get a tattoo, tattoos are too grown for your virgin skin. To diffuse the tension he knows he's caused, he calls after you casually, "Wait for me at the bar. Order me something, huh? Surprise me."
His associate looks after you, gaze glued to the way your hips sway as you recede. You're young, and he can't pin down what your relationship to Hayden is exactly. When he shifts his attention back to Hayden, he's met with a hint of a prideful smile. "Sorry about that. My buddy's daughter. We're close, you know?"

Okay but I need Darth Vader and Darth Maul to meet and duke it out over their mutual obsession with Obi-Wan - can you imagine the way Anakin’s possessiveness would rear its ugly head?????

So I’ve just finished rereading Wild Space for the first time in like a decade and, with all the current debate about whether or not Obi-Wan and Anakin are a Force Dyad, this passage jumped out at me:
Anakin’s hologram bowed, and then his image flicked off.
Yoda shook his head, sighing. “A bad feeling he has. Like that, I do not.”
“Which is more worrying?” said Mace, fingers drumming his knee. “The fact that he confirms your concerns...or that at his age, with his still-limited experience, he can sense something’s wrong when thousands of light-years separate him and Obi-Wan?”
......
Troubled, Yoda halted again. He wanted nothing more than to lock himself into his meditation chamber, but... “Much work that will make for you, Mace Windu. And greatly burdened you are already.”
“I don’t care about that! Yoda, how many times have you said it? Obi-Wan has a destiny as important as Anakin’s. If something happens to him - if we should lose him -”
Yoda nodded, as the weight of the hazy future tried to crush him. “Even with the Chosen One, the Force may never be rebalanced,” he finished heavily.
~ Ch 18, SW: TCW: Wild Space by Karen Miller
What’s especially interesting to me is Yoda’s precognition of Obi-Wan’s significance as a counterweight in the foretold rebalancing of the Force. Something which, of course, Palpatine also recognized as evidenced by his repeated efforts to kill Obi-Wan and continually undermine the bedrock of their relationship in hopes of driving that pivotal wedge between them at last. And how could Obi-Wan’s destiny have been any less important than Anakin’s when he was the Chosen One’s other half, his anchor to the Light and bastion against the Dark?

I can’t stop thinking about the reactions of the Grand Inquisitor and Imperials when they go to pick up Darth I-will-face-Kenobi-alone Vader and see how badly Obi-Wan f*cked up him up. lol Damn, but you know some Imperials must’ve gotten Force-strangled to death for seeing Vader’s face...! Not to mention Palpatine’s reaction when he heard his apprentice got his ass handed to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi...again.

Just sitting here thinking about how insanely profound it is that even when not shipped romantically Obi-Wan and Anakin are STILL soulmates. Like romantic feelings or sexual attraction notwithstanding - they are literally metaphysical soulmates!!!

My #1 post of 2022
Omg, look what I just found in my SW fanart folder! 😍
Obi-Wan and Anakin as Dads to Luke and Leia AU! 💖
Tumblr media
(I’m not the artist by the way - I’m afraid I have no idea who is. I’ve literally been saving random SW stuff on my computer for the last 20 years so unfortunately I don’t know who all of the original creators are anymore.
If anyone knows who the artist is please let me know so I can credit them - and if it’s your own work I will of course take it down if you prefer. This fanart just seems too cute not to share right now in light of the OWK show. <3)
Edit: the artist is thisuserisalive on Instagram and thisuserisangry on Twitter.

THE WHITE SUN AT MIDNIGHT | J.BLACK Ch. 6
Tumblr media
Hayden Christensen
as
Ryland Miller
"Uh, hey, Bells. Can I talk to you?" Paige whispered to her sister, who was lying on her bed back at their house. Bella nodded and sat up so Paige could sit down next to her.
"Um, so what do you want to talk about?" Bella inquired, and Paige sighed.
"About . . . . before. With the whole werewolf thing and vampires and . . . . yeah." Both girls stayed silent for a while until Paige broke the intense staring. "Look, now you know why I've been acting so weird. I'm in the midst of my transformation, just like how Jacob was. I understand if you look at me differently."
Bella let out a breezy laugh, which confused Paige, and said, "I'm not going to look at you a different way just because of some wolfy gene you have. But you could've told me."
Paige nodded. "And you could've told me that your ex-boyfriend was a vampire," she shot back, and Bella gave her a look that said she had a point.
"Okay, so now we both got our deepest darkest secrets out. Now we can continue with our day, right?" Bella questioned, and Paige giggled.
"Yeah, I guess. But I still don't fully understand the whole vampire thing. The pack didn't do the best job explaining it," Paige added, and Bella spent the next half hour explaining everything about the Cullens that the Uley pack had missed. Next, it was Paige's turn, and she didn't explain the werewolf thing because Jacob had covered that. She told her sister about her father and tribe back home, about the shape-shifter gene passed down for generations.
By dinner time, they knew everything about vampires and werewolves alike. Paige could not believe that her own sister used to date the species that killed her father. But, she refused to tell anyone about how her father died. That's the one thing she will never tell Bella, especially now that she used to snog a bloodsucker.

The next day at school, Paige and Bella sat down in their usual spot in the cafeteria near their friends. Bella was having a small conversation with Angela, and Paige got up and went to the salad bar. She was putting some lettuce in her bowl when she felt a light tap on her shoulder.
The blonde turned around to see a boy with brunette hair and blue eyes. Paige looked at him with a puzzled and weirded out look. "Um, can I help you?" She asked awkwardly.
"Yeah, uh, I was um . . . . just wondering if you wanted to ya know, erm . . . . go out with me?" The boy stuttered
Paige narrowed her eyes at him and said, "I'm sorry, no." The boys turned even paler than he was, which was hard to beat.
"But you barely know me," he whispered, trying to take away some of the stares at him.
"Yeah, so?" Paige snarled.
"Well, can't you give me a chance?"
"I don't feel like giving you a chance. I'm not interested."
"Well . . . .--"
"Hey, buddy." The boy whipped around, and Paige looked around him to see another guy. He looked a little older than the boy trying to seduce Paige and had dark blonde hair. And unlike Paige's, which had highlights, his was close to a solid color. He had a mild tan and a freshly shaven face with a sharp jawline. "She said she's not interested," the other boy spat, and with no hesitation, the boy scurried away in fear.
Once he was out of sight, Paige looked back at the boy with a broad smile spread across her face. "So, you still scare guys even after all these years?" Paige interrogated, and Ryland's lips perked up.
"Missed you too, Lovely," Ryland said sarcastically and leaned down since he was almost a whole foot taller than her and wrapped his arms around Paige in a hug. Paige giggled in his ear, which made him grin to himself.
"What'cha doing here?" Paige asked once the two friends broke the hug.
"Well, I was visiting my family but then remembered that you're stuck here, so I thought I'd stay a little longer. I'm staying till the end of the school year," the blonde said and smirked down at Paige.
"That's great. You can meet Bella and Charlie and --" Paige started.
"Wait, is this the famous Bella you were talking about before you left?" He gasped dramatically, and Paige snorted.
"Yeah, my step-sister. She's really nice, and I think you'll like her. She's actually right over there." The Claymore pointed over to Bella and her friends, who were all laughing. The only person who didn't seem to be enjoying the social interaction was Bella, who was looking at the table in disinterest.
Ryland and Paige glanced at each other, and Ryland said playfully, "she looks fun." Paige shoved him softly. The warning bell for class then rang, and everyone in the cafeteria started swarming towards the exits so they wouldn't be late.
"Come on, we better get to class," Ryland worried, and Paige nodded.
"What class do you have right now?" Paige questioned.
"English," Ryland shrugged, and Paige squealed, causing him to jump.
"Me too! Yay!" The girl exclaimed, and they went through the exit to get to English class. Paige completely forgetting about her half-prepared salad.

He is already the Supreme leader, searching the universe to find you, his Empress. Your name on his wrist has been the only constant in his life, while you have doubts about his existence and his acceptance of you. He isn’t in the database and why did the name Kylo Ren cover Ben Solo?
MASTERLIST
Chapter 42: Lies and Pleasure
You wanted to break the tension in the shuttle, “you look nice.”
Kylo looked down at his suit, “It was Hux’s recommendation, to not draw too much attention to who I am, but that’s out the door now.” He was most certainly angry with you now.
“Well I like it, we look like a pair now.” You tried to defuse the situation. He did look good.
“Would you like to visit them today or tomorrow?”
“Who?”
“Your friends. You said you wanted to see them before we go. So that is either today or tomorrow.” There was a hint of annoyance in his voice.
“Why don’t we visit them today? I have a feeling you don’t want to ruin both days do you?”
“Ruin both days,” he asked rather annoyedly.
“I thought you really didn’t like people. So get it over with now and tomorrow might be a better day.”
He scoffed, “It will be a better day if you cooperate.”
You bit the inside of your cheek. Not knowing how to respond. You then heard him give orders to the pilot to change courses to Toronto and to Mitaka to let your friends know you were on your way. Other than that you sat in relative silence.
A tear slipped down your cheek. You tried to hold back your emotions, but you were failing miserably.
A gloved hand came to your cheek and a pair of lips to your ear, “don’t cry you don’t want that to be the last image they have of you do you?”
You sniffled, “this will be the last time I get to see them?”
“Until you are empress, yes.” The hand carded itself through your hair. As much as you hated it it was comforting and you leaned into him as best as you could. His Force hold on you was no longer there.
A few minutes later the shuttle landed and the exit ramp lowered. You felt the Force holding you down once more as you were being unbuckled by him. It made you feel like a child, what once was rather endearing and protective felt controlling and possessive. Once unbuckled he took your arm in his and you could feel the heavy air of the Force keeping you with him. He wasn’t going to let you run. Not this time.
You exited together. The others following behind you, you were at Carter’s place. Both Carter and Hayden had larger apartments than you did, but Carter’s was always the fanciest one. Why you all always spent time in your tiny apartment was something you would never understand.
You all crammed into the elevator, Kylo’s grip on you never letting up. You got to Carter’s floor and you walked down the hall to their door. Kylo knocked hard.
Carter opened the door and their eyes were as wide as dinner plates, “Y/N? Why don’t you all come in?”
You did, Kylo maneuvered you through the door and you were greeted by an equally wide-eyed Hayden.
You all sat around Carter’s living room. The tension in the air was something you could choke on.
Carter was the first to speak, “are you going to introduce us Y/N?”
You turned your head to look at Kylo, whose eyes were burning into your’s, “Go on, tell them who we are.”
You bit your lip before turning back to Carter and Hayden. “This is my match. The redheaded man you see over there as you know is Allegiant General Hux. The silver armored stormtrooper is Captain Phasma and the officer is Lieutenant Mitaka.”
His voice was low and dark, “tell them who I am.”
You swallowed back, but your mouth was dry. “This is Supreme Leader Kylo Ren.” You swore you could feel the metallic taste of blood in your mouth you were chewing on your lip so hard.
Both of them, Carter and Hayden dropped to their knees and surprised you. Their voices in robotic unison, “Supreme Leader forgive us for our ignorance.”
Kylo’s head lifted with a sense of superiority, “you are forgiven.”
They remained on their knees with their eyes focused on the ground in front of them. You were in shock at what you were witnessing.
“Why are they doing this,” you asked.
“This is the effectiveness of the education, or enlightenment that they have received,” replied Hux.
Before you could verbalize the disgust you were feeling Kylo was hauling you up and out the apartment. You tried to break free and to try to reason with your friends, but his actual grip and the grip of the Force tightened around you. You were in his snares and he was not letting you go.
He practically slammed you down into the seat on the shuttle. When he buckled you this time he tightened the straps so they dug into you unpleasantly.
Your voice was small, “why are you doing this?”
“Why does anyone do anything? Power. Order. Control. I tried to warn you, as did the general. Well, you are now out of warnings.”
And just like that, everything about your previous life came crashing down. Your fairytale was no more. You were to be his songbird and there was nothing you could do about it. You were pretty sure all of the sweet things he had ever said to you were lies.
He wasn’t a man. He was a monster.
His head snapped to look at you, a hand wrapped itself around your throat and yanked your head harshly to look at him. “DON’T YOU EVER THINK OF CALLING ME THAT AGAIN.”
If you thought he yelled at you before it was nothing compared to what just happened. Or was it a scream, you didn’t know. You could see out of the corner of your eye that the general and the lieutenant looked terrified. Captain Phasma’s body language told you that she was too. At the same time, the ship seemed to buckle with turbulence that you were sure never happened before now.
You were terrified. Tears fell down your face. He was in your mind and there was nothing you could do about it. No, you were still in a fairytale, but one that you were sure that didn’t have a happy ending. You wanted whoever was writing this story to stop the torment. Your heart couldn’t handle it.
The shuttle docked on the ship. The exit ramp lowered and Kylo ordered, “get out,” to everyone on board. Even the pilot and copilot left. He unbuckled himself and walked over to the wall and the ramp closed. You were now alone with him, strapped into your stupid seat.
He walked over to you and crouched down in front of you. His eyes drill into your’s, into your skull. You could no longer tell what his eyes were hiding. They seemed to once be windows into his subconscious, into his soul, now they were vault doors and you didn’t have the combination anymore.
You watched as his breathing sped up, in what you guessed was anger. “I will give you what I promised, but only if you cooperate. You will say, do and think as I tell you to. If you want to be an empress, my empress, you will have to earn it. You will have to show me that you are worthy of it. Because I am not afraid of, doing as you said, keeping you like a songbird. Locked in a cage and only taken out when I want you to sing. I am not afraid of keeping you locked away, because you are mine and no one else’s. Do you understand?”
The words died on your lips as you tried to say “yes.”
He spoke louder this time, “Do you understand?”
It took all of your energy, “yes.”
“Good.” His hand went to your throat once more, this time it was gentler. “Now Kitten, I do not like having to do any of this. But you need to understand who is in charge. You only have power because I have given it to you. But I believe with the right training and guidance you will eventually be able to take power for yourself.”
His hand shifted up to your face and caressed your cheek, his bare thumb rubbing over your lips, “Now Kitten I promised you that I would wait, but that doesn’t mean I won’t play with you before then.” You heard the clicks of the buckles come undone. You felt his arms beneath you as he proceeded to bridal carry you out of the shuttle and back to your chambers.
He carried you up the steps and threw you down onto his bed before crawling on top of you. His lips came crashing down on top of yours. His teeth bit into your lower lip causing you to gasp, he took this as an opportunity to practically shove his tongue down your throat. You heard him laugh at this. One of his hands ran along the inside of your leg and shoved it to the side, he forced himself between your legs. He bucked into you. This made you gasp even more as you struggled to break the kiss. His lips started to trail down your body, he nipped at your collar bone.
You struggled to find the words, “I thought you said we would wait?” A small part of your mind was screaming out to have him stop, but the rest of you was entranced by his spell.
“We will, but like I said I want to play with you,” you could hear him chuckle in response. His lips found their way up to your ear and he placed a kiss there. “I will follow your wish only if you obey me. But in the meantime, you will let me do as I wish.”
His hands pinned yours above you, but it only took one of his to hold you down. His hand trailed down your body and came to rest on your breast before giving it a rather rough squeeze. You squirmed, which caused him to buck his hips again, but this time he also ground into you. His lips encapsulated yours once more. His hand kneading into your breast, his fingers flexing and splaying around you.
The hand that was holding yours above your head let go and trailed itself down your side and down your thigh before pushing your skirt up. Your hands clutched his back and his hair out of excitement and fear. His hand felt your wetness through your underwear, you heard him chuckle again. “Are you sure you want to wait, Kitten?”
The small bit of rational brain that you had left screamed, “yes,” but it came out broken.
He chuckled again, “have it your way then.” He then proceeded to grind his fully clothed crotch into your barely covered wetness.
You could feel what you were doing to him. He sped up and both of his hands squeezed your breasts, which caused you to buck up into him. He moaned into your ear. His grinding turned into dry humping. He asked once more, “Are you sure you want to wait,” this time it came out as more of a heated groan.
Your brain was short-circuiting, the heat, and the pleasure you were feeling were almost taking over, almost. “Please,” it came out all breathy.
You could feel his excitement. “Please what Kitten?”
“Wait.”
You could feel his disappointment as he bucked harder against you. “As you wish.” His teeth were marking your skin now. Sucking and biting and kissing. His lips came up to yours and it felt as if he was trying to get you to swallow his tongue. You could hear him repeat, “Mine, mine, mine,” into your mouth. One of his hands found its way to your clothed wetness once more and began rubbing circles into you. Your brain was going haywire.
You moaned into his mouth as your orgasm eventually came crashing in. Your eyes fluttered and your breath hitched. He sped up his hand until your wave was over. He moaned into your mouth before he broke your kiss. He flipped you both so he was spooning you on your side, he continued to kiss up and down your neck while grinding into your ass. One of his hands rested grabbing your breast while the other was against your clothed heat. You stayed like that until you drifted off into sleep. When you finally awoke you could smell that he had taken a shower.
“Did you relieve yourself,” you asked.
“Yes, I promised to wait, but I did not promise to keep either of us from orgasming. I helped you and I needed to help myself. Would you like to try that again,” as he asked his index finger followed the line of your fire and your toes curled.
“No, I am good for now.” It took all you had to respond. His lips then found their way up and down your neck.
Eventually, he stopped and hooked his chin over your shoulder. “I need to attend to some things. You will need to come with me. I am not letting you out of my sight for the rest of the day.” He then got up and pulled you up along with him. With your hand in his, he leads you back out into the real world. Into the other parts of your cage.

Completely Harmless Ch. 54
Completely Harmless An SSO SilverGlade Re-imagining Story (Or Fix it Fan Salt fic) By Ginny O.
When Lily and her friends wanted to buy horses and were directed to the Silverglade Manor and its myriad of problems, they didn’t expect to start a revolution. They were just a bunch a stable girls. Completely harmless. Right?

Chapter Fifty-Four CHILL-ax during Happy Horse Week!
The decorations were approved by other clubs while the few votes against them were roundly ignored. It helped that gave everyone a goodie bag and had a snack table set up with their treats and cups of apple cider mixed with ginger ale. The marble balloons had been turned into arches and pillars. She’d borrowed the flag banners from Jorvik Stable to show off what things would look like complete with hay bales.
The Councilman hadn’t been too happy about the hay bales, but Kate had promised to clean.
Everyone was relieved that Lily was okay. And they were more than willing to take shifts at the council house in order to help make the decorations they needed between breaks in training. Training that was more important than they realized.
In fact, it was Herman that clued Lily in as she waited her turn to run through the show jumping event set up in the Arena.
“Really looking forward to seeing all you girls at the County Fair this year,” he said with a big grin on his face. Leaning against the fence of the riding arena he looked almost lazy as he watched the girls.
Lily looked down at him and put a hand on her horse’s neck. “Herman, I think you’re forgetting that most of us have never lived here before. Or should I be asking Linda or Pauline?”
Herman glanced up, the grin didn’t fade. “Didn’t forget. Didn’t know you didn’t know.”
Lily rolled her eyes. Her stallion tossed his mane.
“There’s an eventing contest held at the County Fair every year. It’s the first qualifier for the Claymore Challenge. Every club comes and tries out. Course, last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, was just the Bobcats and the Bulldogz. Be nice to see them have a bit of competition.”
Lily’s brow furrowed. “But we’re collecting ribbons,” she said slowly drawing it out.
“Gotta train your horse and get it into condition so it knows what it’s doing. Practice is one thing, Lily girl, doing exhibition is another. The lights, the crowds, you don’t know how your horse is going to react. Depends on the crowd too.” Herman sucked his teeth. “Yep, some mighty fine riders in practice can’t make it through exhibitions.”
Lily pressed her tongue to her back teeth and looked off to the side as her brows furrowed. “Qualifiers,” she said after a few moments and not coming into any conclusions.
“Yep, helps me winnow it down. I know you’re all doing well in your ribbons. You can’t all go to the Claymore Challenge as much as I’d like to send you all. One Club per county. Thems the rules.”
Lily looked down at him. “I wasn’t given any rule list when I made the club. How many members are we allowed to have maximum anyways?”
“Fifty.”
Lily blinked. There went the plan to merge clubs to get around that pesky rule. “Well, we’re a bit beyond 100 people, Herman. I think we’re hitting closer to 200.”
Herman grinned. “And you wouldn’t believe how proud I am of that, all of you choosing to leave Moorland and form clubs to help out the district. Brings a tear to me old eyes, it does.”
Lily snorted. She shifted her attention. Tracey rode around the track keeping her posture upright as her stallion took the turns.
“You’re doing good things,” Herman rocked back and forth on his feet.
“If you say so,” Lily glanced back at him.
“You don’t think so?”
“I think I’m doing what needs to be done whether it’s good or bad, I can’t say.” Lily gripped the reins in her hands turning them over between her fingers. “I’m doing the best I can or we are, or I hope we are. One never knows. You have a lot of things you don’t tell newcomers, like, qualifiers being at the County Fair.”
Herman chuckled. “You’re revitalizing this county.”
“You didn’t need me for that, you just needed to act.”
“Mrs. X of CHILL wants to meet you,” Herman said.
“Fancy that,” Lily said in a dry voice. “I’m not surprised.”
“Alone.”
“Of course,” Lily murmured. “Because what other way do you meet the leader of a secret organization that,” she paused. “What does CHILL do?”
“Put nails in the road for G.E.D.,” Herman said.
“Your horse idioms are so lovely, Herman,” Lily said. “Where is she?”
“Observatory 12 in Epona.”
Lily backed her stallion away from the fence. “And let me guess, she wants to see me as soon as possible.”
“You know how this works.”
“Way too many crime shows, way, way too many.”
Herman laughed.
“How cliché can you get?” Lily muttered and nudged her horse into a trot. The nearest transport to the Observatory was in Crescent Moon Village she thought. Hillcrest and the Dews Farm in Epona were getting transports set up still. Hillcrest’s was in need of a major repair since someone had tried to use the truck to ram the wall. (It hadn’t worked.)
She took the transport to Crescent Moon Village and went directly down the road through the Marsh and up the side of the mountain to the Observatory perched on the edge of the Cauldron opposite of Hillcrest.
Dismounting, she opened the huge doors of the observatory a crack and slipped inside.
It wasn’t as dark as she’d thought it be. Sunlight streamed in through the small windows illuminating the place.
“I’m glad you came,” Mrs. X said from the middle of the room. She smoothed the skirt of her ankle length green dress, but a deep hood obscured her face.
Lily stepped closer. Mrs. X’s face was also covered with a mask. Crossing her arms, Lily stopped. “I don’t deal with people who hide their faces.”
“My identity is a closely guarded secret, one I’d like to keep that way.”
Lily pressed her lips together. “You’re either trying to recruit me. Or, you have a message for me. Spit it out one or the other.”
“You’ve impressed me.”
“Funny, you don’t sound impressed.”
“You’ve interfered with a major operation. Hillcrest is only a small part of the G.E.D.’s plans for the Harvest and Epona Districts. You’ve set me back months of work.”
“You, lady, are a vigilante.” Lily lifted a finger off of her arm. “You run around in the shadows not sharing information with the authorities, and causing more problems than you solve because you won’t work within the boundaries of the law.”
“The law has failed us.”
“So, Bernie Winterwell didn’t want to leave his house and was happy to be bribed. Was it a moral failing? Or is House of Winterwell in dire straits? Or is there another reason? I don’t know. I don’t care. If Baron Winterwell isn’t doing what you need to do, you go to Count Marchenghast.”
“He’s ill. The Countess is overwhelmed. They’re too young and inexperienced to handle the G.E.D.”
Lily’s lips parted. “Really? Because, Mrs. X., I’m what, sixteen, and I’ve handled them just fine by oh, seeing that they don’t have the proper paperwork or you know, put people in actual danger and taken this to the people in charge like the Rangers and the nobles who run this county and they’ve managed to take care of things with the information me and my girls have provided them. I do not feel that the people of Hillcrest are an acceptable sacrifice so you can try to stop the grander scheme and get the higher ups.”
“You are too young to understand.”
“I understand that right now you’re no better than the druids, most of whom, also wear hoods and also, who I will not have anything to do with unless they show their faces. Here’s my message to you, it’s the same one I gave to Elizabeth Sunbeam. You lead and take action instead of observing and waiting. You follow. Or you get the hell out of my way. The people of Hillcrest will not thank you for standing by and watching.”
“Jarlaheim is in great danger. You don’t understand how great.”
Lily rolled her eyes. “Yes. We know. You remember Mayor Elaine. She was in Hillcrest. She knew what Ms. Drake was up to. Ms. Drake has been arrested. Given her lawyers, she probably won’t be in there for long. But it’s a good way to stall them and give time for Mayor Elaine to recover and take control over Jarlaheim.” Lily turned on her toe and grabbed the door. Pulling it open, she looked over her shoulder. “Come out of the shadows, Mrs. X, and into the light.” She walked out shutting the door gently behind her.
“People,” she said to her stallion.
He whuffled.
Lily mounted and turned him around down the mountain. “Vigilantism, peh.”
He nodded his head.
“Jarlaheim is in great danger,” Lily mocked. “Gee, you think? I mean, there aren’t four dig sites around the place, probably illegal dig sites, run by the G.E.D. if it’s not in great danger. Like, I don’t have girls in every stable and town and farm in this county by now. And do you know what we teenage girls like to do?”
He knocked his ear back seemingly interested.
“Share information. People might call this gossip. Because they only hear about who is dating who and who is fighting and what embarrassing thing happened to so and so this week. But there is important information among the trivia.” She patted his neck. “Sometimes, if the mare is fat, it’s not that she’s actually fat, she’s pregnant.”
He whinnied.
“Exactly, you get it.” Lily let him trot down the road. “Diabolical corporations. Aliens. Witches. Ghosts. Aliens running diabolical corporations. Druids. Chipmunks and squirrels as spies. Magic horses. Now vigilantes.”
He nodded his head.
“Nahnahnahnahnahnahnah, Batman!”
Her horse whinnied again.
She quieted as she got out of the marsh and into the village. She hummed “Spider-man, spider-man, does whatever a spider can,” under her breath as they passed Hayden’s house.
She took the transport back to Jorvik Stables.
When Herman asked her how it went, she replied with, “It went.”
--
The decorations were ready in time for Happy Horse week, if barely. Barney had helped them by using the vinyl wall art to make plywood versions of the horse silhouettes with his wooden scroll saw. He’d also made them horse heads to vary up the horse shoes and hang their smaller horse garlands from. They weren’t allowed to touch his saw. They could lose fingers if they weren’t careful. Plus, he was making the silhouettes five or six at a time to save time. Each stable and town had at least one of each galloping, show jumping, and dressage silhouette. Carney Summers had been busy making race signs for everyone.
But everything was painted, glittered, glued together, whatever needed to be done in time to decorate for the week. Metal and plastic buckets had ribbons and bows on them. Plastic helmets also had bows and rhinestones and gold trim. They wrapped fancy striped ribbons in Jorvik national colors around every extra haybale they were strewing about for decorations. (And handy seating for the tired parents.)
So, the day before Happy Horse Week was also busy instead of training, they were decorating and making sure everything was out and just so. They’d put together plenty of snacks for the tables and had decided that mint candies went in predominantly blue favor cones, and granola went in predominantly green favor cones.
Putting together the selfie walls had been a bit easier now they were at the third time around. They used the triangular and horse shoe garlands to drape the circle. Put plenty of championship ribbons on the upper left hand side. Put together a pillar or arch out of marble balloons and made sure there were hobby horses and stuffed plushies (fresh from Fort Pinta) out for people to use as props.
Agnetha has pursed her lips at the arches of balloons in front of the rose archway and on each side of the bandstand, but she hadn’t said anything dire.
Thinking ahead, they set up the pavilion so people could decorate their own buckets and helmets if they wanted to do so. They even had championship ribbons for name badges.
They had to rearrange the jumps in the riding arena. (That gave them time to decorate it.) Though the Rose Arches remained firmly in place. And put together the special race tracks for the cross country races through the grape fields.
It was a good thing that they had extra decorations and banners, because just in time for Happy Horse Week, the Silverglade Oval Track was ready to open and it needed to be decorated as well.
Pia and Ingrid sent pictures of the Art Show and Flea Market respectively. Everything was horse themed! Pia had plenty of exclamation points. She never asked for it to be that way!
They had to help transport the cake from Ma Anna’s Pastry Shop in Firgrove all the way to Moorland. They transported it in separate tiers thank goodness, but they still wanted an escort for some reason. When it was put together, the bottom three tiers were sold colored, there was a blue tier, a green tier, and a white tier. Then the top two tiers, one had stripes, and the smallest was white with green and blue polka dots. They stuck a large golden harp in the top of it as a topper.
The tables for the Moorland feast were set out. And there were extra tables so they could set out the grab bags, horse masks, party hats, and horse ears for the kids. The Farmer’s Market bustled with happy people who were more than happy to put up another tent for the Carnival games of bobbing for apples, pig pen, horse shoes, hobby horse races, and pin the tail on the horse. They had a special spot for the pinatas (and plenty of them.) And a booth all set up so everyone could get their face painted.
Realizing they’d forgotten prizes for said games, Kate and her club ran to Jorvik City to get more of the prizes like they had in the grab bags. (Because why not try to collect them all, according to Regina. She was roundly reminded, again, that this wasn’t Pokemon!)
The Timber Wolves escorted Andy’s petting zoo down and helped him set it up at the same time they brought down the cake.
It was quite the whirl of activity.
No one was sure who exactly hid the Golden Horse Shoes, only, that they were hidden.
So, everyone was excited the first day of Happy Horse Week, despite the fact that they’d had to make a schedule so there were people minding the races, giving beginning riding lessons, doing the lunge informational event, the craft pavilion, and the snack booth.
“Where do we want to go first?” Was the biggest question. Firfall was having a jousting demonstration at their medieval fair. There was the County Fair to check out too with all the food, and booths, and games, and they had to keep an eye on the competition up there with the eventing qualifiers. Or, they could go to Moorland and get a slice of carrot cake or apple spice cake (or both) and go straight to the Farmer’s Market to do games there. Or, they go to Fort Pinta and grab Token Takes Jorvik, buy a horse plushy if they didn’t already have a stuffed lovie of their own and start on the different challenges, plushy vacation pictures, Andy’s Geocaching, and Hayden’s Spider Hunt.
More than a few of them though were bowing out of Hayden’s Spider Hunt.
“No thank you,” they said.
They knew they’d see all of it. It was a matter of did they want to watch a pie eating contest at the County Fair or not? There was going to be a demonstration of a flat track oval race too that sounded interesting. They all agreed that they wanted to see the horse rubber duck race. That sounded too funny not to see.
The last day was the Light Ride.
It was with light hearts that they made their schedule and took to explore the county during Happy Horse Week. (They had Golden Horseshoes to find!) The first place they had to go was the Silverglade Oval Track ribbon cutting ceremony!

Loretta shifted her weight on top of her white stallion, the pink of her showjumping jacket setting off her fair complexion. Lily cynically thought that was the reason why the Bobcats colors happened to be pink. Loretta looked good in it. Loretta glanced over at her. “What are you doing here?”
Lily tugged down the sleeves of her own showjumping jacket, light purple. (Thought she’d the option of a dark purple or mulberry color.) “Same as you, I suspect. Claymore Challenge qualifiers.”
Loretta’s eyes widened. “No. No. You can’t. Your clubs are too,” she trailed off.
“Too what? We’ve qualified. We’ve earned the ribbons.” Lily looked down her nose at her. Had Loretta forgotten about the fact that more clubs meant more competition?
“You haven’t been around long enough to train your horses to be competition ready,” Loretta curled her lip. “You’ve been too busy doing other things.”
Lily leaned forward a bit resting her weight on her folded hands. “Not for the last month, month and a half. You don’t want to train for more than a couple hours every day and risk hurting the horse.”
“But you couldn’t have earned enough ribbons.”
Lily smirked at her. “I did.”
“That’s not right.” Loretta frowned.
“Take it up with Herman.” Lily shrugged. She tilted her head.
The Announcer’s voice rang out. “President of the Bobcats, Loretta.”
“You’re up,” Lily told her.
Rattled, Loretta nudged her stallion into a trot to take the arena.
Lily narrowed her eyes and watched. Either Loretta wasn’t as good as she claimed to be or Lily’s appearance as the next competitor after her had truly rattled her. She missed several jumps knocking down the bars.
When Loretta came off the field she looked furious. She stopped her horse by Lily. “If someone like you who isn’t even from Jorvik keeps me from going to the Claymore Challenge again,” she started.
“Again?” Lily raised a brow. “Last I checked the rules, Jorvik citizenship wasn’t required to compete, only belonging to a Riding Club in Jorvik in good standing.”
Loretta sucked her cheeks in and trotted off. “I won’t be defeated.”
Lily watched her go and put a hand on her horse’s neck. “And President of the Silverglade Equestrian Center’s Silver Drakes, Lily,” The Announcer said.
Lily squared her shoulders. She had an event to do. She could wonder who had beat out Loretta last time. Lisa. Linda. Or Anne?
FOR THE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE MY WATERMARK AND CONTACT INFORMATION. THANK YOU. I get it. Some of you might get excited and want to see this stuff in the game, especially the clothes, tack, and pets. However, the only way I want to see this in the game is if I get paid for it. If I see it in the game and I’m not paid for it, there will be hell to pay. You think I’m salty. I’d be angry. Personally, I’m not going to send this info to SSO. If you do, leave my contact information there! Don’t give them any excuses to steal.
Now, I’ll know you haven’t read this note if you leave me comments about how ‘salty’ I am about the game and if I hate it so much I should do something else. I am doing something else. It’s called Mystic Riders MMORPG Project. Mystic Riders however is a very baby phase game. You can check out our plans on the game dev blog. Transfiguration -- Ch 2: Better
Fandom: Doom Rating: Mature, because violence against demons Pairing: Sam/Slayer [eventually] Summary: There’s definitely still some strain going on here. AO3 Link Previous Chapter: Next Chapter
------------
Hayden paces Room 235, his long legs taking him the distance of the extended, decorative table in the center of the room in only half a dozen steps. He looks down at the ingrained wood; in stark contrast to the clean, geometric blue and white of the building, the table was actually two halves of a dark, rust-colored trunk, with the gap between the halves connected and filled with a golden epoxy. His optics traced the intricate designs; every flaw in the wood, every knot, every bore had been filled with the striking gold, making the near-black finish look as if it was bleeding rivers of molten fire. Every imperfection, perfected and made all the more beautiful for it.
Hayden runs two of his right arm's four spidery, cybernetic fingers along the table, testing their sensitivity. He detects the smooth finish, the work of the expert who designed the furniture-- but also, there is the imperceptible sensation of the tree's rings, the story of its life laid bare under the sealant. He brings those same fingers back up to his chin, resting them there in a thoughtful manner-- a painfully human thing to do, Hayden decides, and his hand drops unceremoniously to his side.
It's five minutes past the hour (and 47 minutes after his original message was sent) when the sealed and reinforced glass doors to the meeting room finally slide open with a hiss. Hayden's attention turns from the table instead to a person he hasn't seen face to face in over a decade: the Hell Walker, the Unchained Predator, the Doom Slayer. A reputation that preceded someone who was, in reality, just a single man, cursed millennia ago to face Hell alone, blessed by angels to make sure his rage was honed into the deadliest spear. The imperfect… perfected.
Today, however, he just looks tired and maybe a touch annoyed that Hayden called him here.
"Ah, Slayer," Hayden starts, his voice cool and unbothered. "Thank you for making it on short notice. I had figured you'd get tired of that hospital bed soon enough; did the doctors treat you well, at least?"
Slayer says nothing, as expected. He appears to have only brought half of the Praetor Suit with him, perhaps due to the tender bandages covering his body. His arms and torso and head are exposed, but his Praetor boots and belt remain. At the mention of doctors, Slayer's lip curls and he looks away. He decides against moving from the doorway, instead allowing the huge table to act like a chasm between the him and Hayden.
"I'll take the bandages as a good sign, then," Hayden continues, ignoring the strained atmosphere. "Nobody goes up against the Icon of Sin without retaining a few injuries along the way. Not even the Destroyer himself."
Slayer's face distorts in disgust, as well as another, hard-to-place emotion (is it confusion?). The cyborg tilts his head a half a degree, studying the man as analytically as possible. Hayden's HUD calls up Slayer's vitals; aside from the re-stitched and bandaged lacerations, he was perfectly healthy. Nothing to worry about, per usual. When Slayer shifts, Hayden refocuses on his face, anticipating a response-- instead the man just leans against the door frame, arms crossed, eyes bored. Hayden sighs; of course Slayer's being stubborn as always, so he takes the initiative, walking around the conference table in the middle of the room, tapping a button at the corner closest to Slayer. It brings up a hologram of what appears to be Earth, with demon hotspots zones marked, though they all look dramatically reduced in size.
"I am glad you're up and about, though. You may not care, but there's much to be done that you could still help with. This Earth has barely begun to heal itself but luckily it is, just like humanity, extremely resilient."
This Earth. Hayden keeps an eye on him, but Slayer doesn't even flinch at the clear distinction. He breathes a sigh of relief that neither of them feel like beating around that particular bush today.
A few more button presses bring up the Moon, and, more distressing, a shattered image of Mars.
"Luna and Mars are both of another issue. With the Icon gone, most forces are being called back to Hell on the Earth's surface meaning humanity can recolonize. Anyone directly connected to the Deags or UAC's Tier 3 recruitment are being located and incarcerated. But Luna remains dust in space, and personnel on Phobos are still scrambling with the remaining demonic forces and the new gigantic scar quite visible on Mars' surface. Luckily for you--" Hayden tilts his head in mild irritation towards the Slayer for emphasis "--your heroic actions means you won't be charged nor will you be pursued for the permanent damage done to the red planet." Hayden says that last part with dripping annoyance, and the Slayer has enough gall to grin in response, as if to say "who would be stupid enough to try and pursue me, anyway?"
"Don't give me that look, Doom Slayer," Hayden chides, but the sly smirk doesn't falter. "Mars will never be the same. Perhaps it is for the better… Argent energy is, for the most part, gone. It can still be manufactured here in a man-made capacity, but it will soon require the Crucible to make the process continuous; however, it is still powering the Fortress of Doom. It is possible humanity could regain access to Argent by reforging your blade on Argent D'Nur. I'm sure the Fortress can access that world, when you are well enough to we can--"
The Doom Slayer clears his throat.
The sound cuts Hayden off completely. He looks over, hearing that ragged noise without really registering what it meant, not really, not until Slayer rumbles out another sound before--
"Samur. Shut up."
The silence hangs as Hayden appears to obediently listen to Slayer's command. He stands up straighter, rocking back on a mechanical heel, but Slayer's gaze doesn't waver. Hayden breaks the contact first, a weakness he is sure Slayer will use to his advantage. But what else could he do but take a moment? That was a name he had not heard spoken in millennia. It was a title lost to time, a title Hayden had nearly forgotten, and almost wished he hadn't remembered in the first place.
It left him suitably silenced.
"Ah, of course." He starts, recomposing himself. "I should have expected you to realize, given enough time and interaction, who I was, or used to be." It wasn't a true facade-- this name, this body, the escape to this planet --but he wasn't fit to discuss it, not yet. Not when Slayer had already figured the truth of the matter, and he wasn't clear of all the details himself. That didn't stop images flashing by-- of racing stars, of violent dismemberment, of feeling his atoms pull apart and back together again and again--
"Information on Urdak," he continues, his even tone belying his passing internal turmoil, "is limited on this planet, if not completely non-existent outside of unreliable religious text. For us to finish our mission you needed to know everything I knew, and being directly connected to Maykr technology only enhanced what I already knew, gave greater clarity." The robot shifted on his legs, acutely remembering how he had been without those specific limbs not too long ago.
Slayer, however, shakes his head, grunting in annoyance. Even being most of the way out of his armor, even when more than three feet of height separated Hayden from Slayer, that did not stop the man's physique from radiating power and intimidation.
"Before," the Marine manages, his voice still a ruined mess. Perhaps something happened to it in Hell, Hayden hypothesizes. There's no way it was from back then, with the Sentinels. They enjoyed your war cry far too much to ever... Hayden pushes those intrusive thoughts from his mind as, somehow, Slayer continues. "Back when I woke up." His eyes dart to Hayden, look him over, and his expression goes steely.
"Liked you better, before."
Something in Slayer's tone hits Hayden personally. Before. Back when he was still Samur Maykr, back when maykr and demon called him Seraphim, back when Argent D'Nur wasn't destroyed for the sake of energy and power. It was filled with a strange nostalgia, one that pulls at a string in Hayden that was long-since cut and left to fray. Still, he manages a leveled response.
"I only wanted to help them, you know," Samur -- no, he was Samuel now, and never before had he misstepped on his own name, not until Slayer had said it himself, in that accusing tone -- retorts, holding ground. Hayden's voice is still rough and mechanical, but the defensive edge laces every word. "I found an Earth, I saw what they discovered, and I knew it was only a matter of time before it led to demons as well as to you--"
Slayer heavily frowns and he coughs out a rough growl before looking away. He's quick to head back out the door he came in from, gaining physical distance from Hayden as his Praetor boots thudded heavily against the surgical tile.
A feeling of panic strong enough to spike a system warning message overcomes Hayden's HUD and his cyborg body begins to follow Slayer of it's own accord.
"This world-- you are not a constant, Slayer," He argues. "They were doomed to be swallowed whole, just like your Deimos, just like parts of Argent D'Nur, just like countless nameless realms and worlds. I had to stay, emulate you while I searched, while I tried to do better than--"
Slayer stomps away, faster now, but Hayden's longer, tireless legs are moving, closing the gap quickly as Hayden makes the cardinal mistake of reaching out to touch an exposed shoulder.
Slayer snarls, grabbing Hayden's hand and twisting it. His eyes are flashing as the hand the Slayer crushes spurts electricity, the long metallic fingers crunched in his palm. The same sensors trained to register the subtle changes in wood grain now scream in a form of pain, lighting up his visual array. The fire in Slayer's eyes burn with anger and Hayden realizes too late his egregious miscalculation.
"Using that energy… I would have never…" Slayer can barely get the sentence out before his vocal cords are working against him, causing a cough so strong he has to look away. The menace soon returns, however; the hand is mangled again, shoved away from the accosted shoulder so hard it nearly falls off Hayden's arm. The cyborg just stares, watchful and expressionless.
"You are not better, not anymore," Slayer rasps, only getting the spitting rebuke out on a whispered exhale. Then he's turning away, his throat roughly clearing, before resuming his march. The doctors and technicians he passes all turn to stop and look at him but he pays them no mind as he stomps off towards his room. Many of them soon rush to Hayden, still standing in the hallway outside Room 235.
Why had he even called Slayer there in the first place? Surely it wasn't it have this sort of outcome take place. Hayden's systems scream at him, flashing red in his peripheral. His arm was losing functions; Slayer must have cut a fuel line to the lower limb. He's dimly aware of a technician nearby, already running diagnostics, already saying something along the lines of "are you ok sir, let us just check this over, we'll have a replacement ready for you in--"
He waves off the ARC employee and turns to walk away.
Better. What did the Slayer mean, saying he wasn't 'better'? His actions have saved this Earth, saved humanity, and in time, would free his own people of corruption and let them be born anew. Wasn't all of that the outcome Slayer wanted, too? Doesn't this make all of those sacrifices worth it? Hayden wasn't looking for praise, no, but was a little acknowledgement for what they'd both accomplished too much to ask for?
He should've known the Slayer's trust wasn't so easily won over.
------
[Taras Nabad, ??? Years ago]
He is standing on the outer wall of Teras Nabad (one of the greatest Sentinel cities, he's come to learn), watching on as the inner wall begins to burn. A huge, hulking form relentlessly attacks the city, lit in the darkness of early morning by the fires of its own destruction. It tosses it's giant, horned head, the Hell essence falling from its eyes like molten tears, and the roar it emits pierces the very heavens.
The man known to the Argent people only as Slayer clenches his fists at the sight before him. His hands are begging for a demonic throat to close around, if only to calm the torrential wave of memory-induced anger threatening to drown him. Of all the fights, of everything that he has borne witness to, living a hundred lives in a personal purgatory…
That Titan. He could not defeat it. For the first time, his rage alone was not enough.
He had seen Titans in Hell before, of course, but it was always in passing, and always from a distance. He dreamt (if one could call the feverish vision he had, dreams) of ripping them asunder with his own fists, of finding creative ways to murder them, just like the rest. Perhaps he would end up being swallowed, fighting his way out, bursting with his shotgun with huge guts flying asunder. Or perhaps saw off their horns, drive in the spikes ruining their body, crashing them down into the Hell energy they themselves created. No matter the fashion, there was always a way. He reveled in the challenge of actually finding it..
But now, the challenge is before him and it is a difficult pill to swallow; Slayer, the unstoppable force, could not budge this gigantic immovable object.
He turned from the sight, finding it hard to witness another city he called home fall to demons. As the Night Sentinels he fought with found a moment of sleep, he remained restless, constantly on alert, the wheels turning too loudly in his head to bring him peace. For the first time in so many realms and so many worlds, he felt… despair. It left his mouth tasting like cinders and ash.
"You sure do take the title Night Sentinel to heart," drones a deep, ethereal voice, and Slayer turns to his right. He is startled but unsurprised to see the hooded figure of the Seraphim watching him from the shadow of the bridge tower. Slayer manages to roll his eyes and beckons the Maykr over; the Seraphim only hesitates a moment before finally relenting. He is robed in red, a robe he donned specifically for moments like this, the hood obscuring his face and his intentions. As he nears Slayer, he hesitates again, pulling the hood back only when the coast is deemed clear. The Seraphim's face was slightly different from the others of his kind, more individual than the angels and their militaristic uniformity. No, his metallic Maykr mask gleams softly even in the dark, four eyes sharp and glowing, the crescent of energy upon his forehead reminiscent of the orb held within the Mother Khan herself. Though he was close to the same height of Slayer, he floated a few feet above the ground and his body whirred softly as mechanical armor worked in perfect tandem with the tentacled flesh hiding just underneath.
Slayer smiles. It is brief and does not reach his eyes. "And you really need to shut up, Samur."
The name prompts a grin from the Maykr, as if the line is a long-standing joke between them. Samur watches Slayer, carefully, unblinking, then turns to observe the monster befalling the city. Such a huge set piece, it almost felt unreal. Here was the end the world, and at the rate the titan was moving, it would claim it by morning.
There is a silence that hangs between man and angel for a while before Samur turns to Slayer and says plainly, "I do not have much time. You know this."
Slayer nods, then swallows. "I cannot kill the beast," he confesses, and it sounds so much worse aloud than in his head. "All my tricks, my weapons… I can't rip this beast asunder. It sees my rage, my fury...and ignores it."
Samur is quiet, listening to Slayer, with an unmoved expression, but even his alien calculation appears to register the Slayer's bittersweet emotion. There is something else there, and it maykr turn and watch Slayer carefully.
"You can't possibly be considering defeat?" Samur asks, near incredulous.
"No, not like that. I can't run... I will… I will die fighting it. There is nothing else for it." He looks down, his muscular frame deflated. "This was an inevitability, Samur. I knew in my heart this would happen. I will go down fighting these monsters and my dying breath will be the final assault. It will be an end I will be proud of. I just…" his eyes soften.
"You just what?" asks that graveled whale song, followed by that imperceptible head tilt.
"I just need to be better," he mutters softly. "But I'm only a man. I'm mortal. And no single mortal can bring down something like that."
Samur remains silent and Slayer grows impatient as the helpless seconds tick by. He paces the wall, watching as the beast screams out in tormented defiance.
"I do have a plan of attack," Slayers gets out in a rush as his body pumps him with frenetic adrenaline. "But the sentinels all know it's just a suicide run at this point. We've all agreed and accepted it. We will flank in the morning, and hope to divert it's attention while the western parts of the city evacuate. Then--"
"Slayer."
"--we will do out best to swarm it, and herd it. It can ignore me, but it cannot ignore a coordinated strike. Pushing it towards the center of the City will crowd it, and allow people to escape to--"
"Slayer!"
The Slayer stops. He looks back at this creature, this otherworldly angel, and frowns in confusion, then worry. The maykr's face is expressionless as ever but there is a glaze to his wide eyes; wherever Samur is looking, it is nowhere in the present.
Maykrs were, in many ways, ridiculously alien compared to humans, but not even this weird stunted behavior was normal. Panic grips at the Slayer's heart and he steps forward.
"What?" Slayer asks, suddenly concerned, his fists closing, eyes darting and body sharpening as he prepares to fight. "What's wrong?"
It is a few long moments before Samur can even get close to responding. The metal of his body shines with an unseen light as his fingers twitch and his tentacles thrash from under his robes. Slayer makes a brave decision and touches the maykr, hoping to calm the creature and surprised to find his breath syncing with the maykr's own. He let's go, startled, but the contact seems to be enough to Samur to come to. He focuses on Slayer, his four eyes wide and shining.
"I know what to do." Samur's breathing continues to come fast, and suddenly his clawed hands are shakily pulling his hood back up. "I-- we-- Slayer, it can be done. I can give you what you seek."
There's a stunned silence between them. Slayer's blue eyes narrow as he looks skeptically at the maykr. Then Samur reaches out for him, a strong metallic grip on his shoulders.
"Slayer, I am -- I have seen -- please, do you trust me?"
There is a fraught energy about Samur, an individual usually so composed he could be emotional opposite to Slayer's perpetual energy and intensity. The marine searches Samur's glowing eyes, seeing the thinly veiled terror there, and remembers his earlier words: I don't have much time.
Right now, none of them did. And the clock was still ticking.
Slayer nods. "Yes. I do," he responds. "Tell me, what needs to be done?"

A quick peek inside Satan’s quivering anus.
Also known as the company running ICE detention centers. So, all of us already know that these places are concentration camps. Most of us also know that these are incredibly inhumane places that show the true character of what we have allowed ourselves to become. And some of us have even heard that it’s costing $775 per day, per inmate to house these detained individuals. $775. That’s a lot. In fact, that means if 2 families of 2 parents and 3 kids are detained for a year (360 days actually), we as taxpayers are paying more for these people to be locked up in bullshit conditions than we are allotting funds to prevent public health emergencies in the average ENTIRE FUCKING STATE (California and New York excluded in this, because they are special cupcakes with super high populations and extra threat sprinkles on top).  Now, the humanitarian side of me has had my grits boiling since this shit started going down, but if there are any libertarians or fiscal conservatives reading, that bottom line, if nothing else, should piss you the fuck off too. Not just for the theoretical bit of it, but for the fact that the average detention stay per immigrant in 2019 has been 91 days, and nearly half of immigrants detained stay in detainment from 2 to 4 years. Sources sort of vary at how many are detained at CHS facilities (I’ll get to them in a moment, but for now know they are the reason for the $775 figure), but the ballpark spans from 20,000 to roughly 52,000 people. So let’s do some quick math here and do a best/worst/average. Say that figures have been inflated (that happens) and there’s only 9,000 people incarcerated at CHS facilities. Average length of stay has been 91 days this year, so we have a nice, simple... Carry the one... Holy fucking shitballs. 819,000 person-days. That’s $634,725,000.  That is $14 Million dollars more than the CDC spends during a full FUCKING YEAR in ensuring that EVERY health department can protect the WHOLE GODDAMN POPULATION with medical countermeasures to a terror event or pandemic outbreak. FOR 9,000 FUCKING PEOPLE. FUCK THE OTHER EXAMPLES, THAT’S THE BEST CASE, FUCK.  I’m just going to step away for a moment..   Okay.. Deep breaths. Back on track. Right. Ahem. So. Everyone else finish changing their pants after shitting bricks over the fact we’re spending national level budgets on a population smaller than  Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, Montana (I swear on any God you believe in, that’s a real name) ? Good.
I mentioned CHS earlier. Amazingly, it doesn’t stand for Child Herder Services, or Cold Heartless Sinners, or Cheeto Humping Slimeballs, though they’d all be more fitting. They are a private company, called, and get your asscheeks ready for this one: Comprehensive Health Services.
COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH SERVICES  ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
So this  company. Thiiiiis fucking company, owned by Caliburn International has the FUCKING BALLS to put health in their name despite keeping populations in cages with no water outside of the toilet, with no hygiene supplies, and the absolute minimum in terms of keeping people alive (with the most common issue being, you fucking guessed it, HEALTH complications) is charging us to detain people that most of us don’t even want detained, $775 a day. We’ve seen good chunks of these facilities, and they look fucking awful. Understaffed, overcrowded, minimal resources, and the treatment of (some) workers and (all) detainees as livestock. Does that sound, I don’t know, AT.  ALL. FUCKING. FAMILIAR?  So where is our money going? Our over half a billion dollars, of which even the tiniest scrap could give these people at least decent fucking detention areas (not that I believe they should be there as Asylum seekers anyways, mind you)? Let’s actually make this a game. Is it:  A) Corporate Interests with a heavy Lobbying Presence B) Some group of mostly anonymous investors that would likely feast on a newly starved child’s cheeks as they are “delectable and tender” if cooked properly   C) Some Trump Lackeys that got the contract  D) A company that also sells health insurance services Okay, 10 seconds on the clock.  And time! Okay, so how many picked A? Nice, nice. B? Okay.. Keep in mind I don’t know if they actually eat babies but they may just as well. It’d at least make them less human and thus easier to identify as an enemy. C? Aaah, that’s the high number I was expecting and that means D comes in with a small but decent following. WELL CONGRATS, YOU’RE ALL WINNERS! Here’s how:  A) CHS is part of Caliburn, which also owns DC Capital Partners, one of the bigger and well established lobbying firms in the country. And as any lobbying group does, they ensure that politicians bend to their will, increase their dividends, and weed out competition where they can to avoid a power struggle. Ever wonder why the NRA can never be competed with by a gun owners organization that doesn’t simultaneously deep throat their glocks while twisting their heads into their own asses?  B) Frankly, a lot of these funds are going straight to the private market and boy oh boy, does cruelty mean big business gains and a sturdy portfolio. That being said, you cannot separate the act of investing from the actions of the company you are investing in. If they do something fucked, you are essentially an enabler and an accessory to that action. Well, this isn’t ENTIRELY true. As it happens, some months ago they closed off an IPO of CHS specifically (an odd thing to do for a growing company) and cited “market forces” as the reason. How very suspicious.  C) Does this surprise anyone? So, while the actual list of investors is made private, there are an executive board of orange cocksuckers d’jour that have made this their golden parachute, or in the case of one asshole, was a lobbyist for DCCP, then in the Trump Cabinet, then went over to CHS. Here’s a quick list:  Former Chief of Staff John Kelly (aforementioned lobbyist)  Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage Former Ambassador Michael Corbin Former Commander-in-Chief of CENTCOM, Anthony Zinni Former Director of Science and Tech for CIA, Donald Kerr Former Head of CIA Michael Hayden (WHO PUBLICLY DENOUNCED THESE SORT OF PLACES AND ACTIONS AS BEING SIMILAR TO NAZI EFFORTS LAST YEAR)
Former director of the office of the Budget for the U.S. Navy, Stephen Lotus.  Wow, that’s a lot of love between Trump’s appointees and a contractor, who yes D) also sold insurance services.  So that’s pretty fucked. And sliiight detour now. So, when I started out, like really started out, my first task was dealing with budgets. I still help from time to time, and have to work with contractors fairly often. Now, it’s usual that even if we know suspect that these contractors will give us the best deal every time, we have to do something called “competitive bidding”. That’s where we essentially throw the offer to the air, and whoever gives us the best deal, wins. Now this can be kinda manipulated a bit but in general, these records are open to the public so it’s better for us to just waste the time and actually go through a competitive bidding process than have the explain how we aren’t corrupt while looking pretty corrupt.  You know what didn’t happen here? Competitive bidding. It was a closed off contract. Completely in the dark. How very peculiar, isn’t it?  So, all in all, we have a bunch of fuckwits booted from the White House, sent to a company that has perhaps the most profitable contract of all time, acting like literal nazis, stealing from taxpayers and profiting off racism, suffering and inhumane treatment, all because they could with some bullshit nationalism narrative that’s been pushed by an asshole who can’t even spell check his fucking twitter rants.  Do what you can. But certainly don’t complain to companies who are giving resources to these groups to continue their round ups, for instance, all those vans which are owned by Enterprise. Certainly don’t contact them at 855-298-0346, whatever you do. They are busy people trying to make lots and lots of money. Don’t call your representative and tell them if they support this, they will lose by going to this website: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative . And above all, DO NOT use your available resources to try and disrupt this “carrying out of justice” in any way you can safely. Heavens no, because this is America, and children, America doesn’t care if you’re an immigrant or a nationalized citizen. Nooo no no no. It cares about whether you can turn a profit.

Omg what is starlet reader was ewans daughter and Hayden used to babysit her when she was a kid
MINORS DNI 18+ NOTES: i rly liked this concept :) feel free to ask me about it more! i think this was a good broad start to it WARNINGS: dead dove do not eat | age gap | dark content proceed with caution | there is absolutely no predatory acts mentioned, but because the situation is inherently predatory i'm tagging it | sexual content at the end | implied smut | no y/n
! ── "Yeah, no problem. We'll stay on site at my trailer, order a pizza. How hard could it be?" HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN assures Ewan, who frowns at him in response, clearly amused. "Alright, I'm going to pretend you didn't say that." he pats Hayden on the back as he exits, and when he gestures to you, he tells you a simple "Be good." Your complexion flushes when Hayden lays eyes on you. "You ready?"
! ── "I don't need a babysitter." you tell him as he picks up a slice of pizza from the box, the strings of cheese stretching thin until they break. You have a raging, hormonal and proximity induced crush on your dad's co-star. Not to mention he's a total babe, and so kind. Desperately, you want him to see you as independent, as cooler than you are. You think he's so grown up even though he's barely older than a legal adult. "Sure you don't. We're hanging out." he replies so easily that you almost believe him, even though he's only saying it to make you feel better.
! ── You've always been so standoffish with him. You found any excuse to be around him, but you'd jade yourself out of fear he'd find out your embarrassing feels for him. Often you'd fantasize about him confessing his love to you— but had no idea how problematic that'd be if he did. Now, you're inside his trailer, alone with him, and he's coaxing you out of your shell by making you play one of his video games. It smells like a boy's room in here. "Ugh! I'm no good at this!" you cry, throwing your hands down into your lap. Frustrated over your lack of progress, you've been going around in circles in this mission for what felt like hours. It exacerbated your already heightened stress levels around him. Would he think less of you for not doing well? "Wait a second, hold on," His voice is surprisingly soothing, muffled by the pizza crust stuck in between his molars like a cigar. You don't realize it's because he's resisting the urge to leave you here when he steps outside to smoke. He promised he'd keep an eye on you, so that's what he's doing. Besides, he doesn't wanna be a bad influence on you. He reaches over, and you relinquish the controller to him, his hand grazing yours in the process. "Let's see here..." Instead of paying attention to the screen, you stare at where the point of contact was. "There, see? You had it." he tells you, handing you back the controller after he'd gotten you past your obstacle.
! ── It would be several years before you'd see Hayden again, but you didn't forget him or his extraordinary kindness. He had a way with words, a way of making you feel heard and important. That doesn't change at all— he hasn't changed at all. Besides the way he looks at you now that you're all grown up, established in the world as your own person. Ewan thinks to reintroduce you to Hayden, but he didn't forget your name. Exclaiming it even as he pulls you into a polite embrace, relaying to you he hardly recognized you, that you look great, etc. Just like that, your raging crush is back. Like it never left.
! ── It picks at you until you act on it, until you confess to Hayden you've always had a thing for him. You're both older now, which means you're not so ashamed of yourself, but can look back on it as normal childhood feelings. You're thankful your fantasies were never answered until now. "A crush? On me?" he asks in entertained disbelief, gesturing to himself. "Yes! Obviously," you insist, "You were always so nice to me. Watching out for me when my dad was working later than he thought. How could I not? C'mon," "I'm not judging you," he assures, and he shrugs, "I just... didn't know is all." It's apparent he doesn't know what to do with this information. "Does that make you uncomfortable?" "Yes and no." "Why?" He meets your eyes. There's a tentativeness to his countenance, a debate behind his gaze over whether or not he should say his next words, if they're appropriate, if they'll be received well. "Because I've got a crush on you now."
! ── Going through your normal stages of adolescence, experiencing the journey of discovering your sexuality, exploring it as an adult with your own autonomy— there was always that inkling in the back of your mind reminding you of your lingering childhood crush on Hayden Christensen. How you've never felt anything for anyone as intensely as you did for him. Those buried feelings manifest when you finally allow them to roam, sweeping you up and away. He'd invited you to his trailer to catch up, and you end up on top of him.

Smoke and Mirrors (Ch.1)
P.S. Thanks to those reading me! I just would like to add that English is my second language, so I’m trying my best to write without too many mistakes! Thanks and hello to my new followers :D
When Special Agent Charlie Callaway from the CIA goes Rogue, Erica Sloane sends her Top Agent August Walker after the Rogue woman with the obligation of bringing her back to Washington. Walker's new mission isn't something he had expected to be easy. Even though the young agent gives him a hard time, Walker isn't ready to give up on his mission yet and has more than one trick up his sleeve to catch the young rogue agent.
Tumblr media
CHAPTER 1
Erica Sloane tossed a secret file on Special Agent Walker's desk, before putting back her hands on her hips.
"You've got a new Mission Walker! Open the file!" She ordered him with a firm tone. Walker grabbed the file and opened it. A confused gaze grew on his face as he recognized the young blonde agent. Not that he had worked with her in the past, but he had seen her several times at the CIA headquarters in Langley, he even knew where her residence was located. She even had a twin brother named Dave Callaway.
"Agent Callaway has gone Rogue... We don't know why, and we think she could be under the control of a man named Gael Hayden, but like I said we don't have much more information than this. The last time the 32-year-old agent was seen was a week ago. She was seen in London having lunch with a mysterious man. Probably Gael, but we weren't able to take a clear picture of his face."
As Erica explained to Walker what was the deal with Agent Callaway, August kept looking at the pictures found in the file. Most of the pictures were shots taken from afar, there was even one of Agent Callaway in a bathing suit on a popular European beach resort. Agent Walker couldn't help snickering when he observed the picture of Agent Callaway dressed in a bathing suit, obviously posing for someone, probably for the man taking the picture.
"I'm very serious Walker! There's nothing to laugh about in here. Special Agent Charlie Callaway was supposed to land back in Washington a month ago, and she's out there by herself. She's a precious Agent and I want her back, alive.
Walker scrubbed his stubble before raising his blue eyes to Erica.
"Why me? Don't you have other Special Agents already in Europe?" Erica sighed, and Walker understood that she wasn't in the mood at all for joking.
"I've chosen you because once Miss Callaway would've returned in here, she'd have joined you for a mission. Alas, this mission has been given to someone else since Agent Callaway hasn't returned. She would've been your new partner, charming isn't it Walker? She knew it, therefore I do assume that she was already trusting you! I only told her good things about you Walker.
Walker pushed his tongue against his cheek, looking at the pictures one last time. He found interesting that this Agent would've joined him for a Mission, something no one had told him about before.
"Fine, I accept your mission! It's not as if I have the choice at this point... Where do I go now?"
Erica finally displayed the hint of a smile as Special Agent Walker accepted the mission.
"First you'll have to pack your stuff and you'll stop at her residence, she does share her place with her twin brother. We weren't capable of reaching for this man because he was away on a trip, but he's back home now, perhaps he'll tell you things that could help us with understanding her change of mind. Then, I'll give you your flight tickets for London, this is where Gael Hayden is based, so she shouldn't be far. At this point, it will be your job to find her..."
Walker sighed, wondering why this young agent had decided to go Rogue... Was she in love with someone? Was she kept against her will? He didn't know and to be honest, he felt like this one wouldn't be an easy task.
"Alright!" He stood up from his desk and departed his office with the secret file held in his right hand. He headed home, took a shower and packed his suitcase with every item he'd need for his new Mission. He chose a classic blue navy suit, with a white shirt fitting with his dark tie. He dressed and grasped his Dolce & Gabbana perfume in order to feel neat. the Woody and masculine fragrance applied on his neck slowly filled the air of his bedroom. Knowing well that he had a long flight ahead of him, he didn't want to smell bad during his trip and decided to pack in his suitcase this new bottle of perfume he had recently purchased as a female friend suggested him it would fit him well. Ready to leave his house, Walker made sure his place was secured and placed his suitcases in his black Range Rover SUV before hitting the road.
It took around 25 minutes for August to reach the home of Charlie Callaway, luckily for him her twin brother was outside mowing the lawn. Walker parked the SUV on the side of the street and stepped out of the luxurious vehicle.
"Hi, I'm Special Agent August Walker!" He displayed his badge to the short blonde man standing near him.
"What do you want?" Asked the young man to Walker. August could tell he was worried for his sister.
"Don't worry, I don't have any bad news concerning your sister, but perhaps you could tell me more about her. Did you get any of her news since she decided to go rogue?"
The blonde man stopped the lawnmower and glanced at Walker with desperation.
"She called me a month ago and she told me how she had enjoyed two days at the beach in Europe."
August attentively listened to the man, cocking his head to the side when Charlie's brother mentioned that she had spent two days at the beach.
"Do you know if she was alone at the beach?"
Dave ended up snorting at Agent Walker.
"Charlie is... How could I explain it? Yes, she told me she had met someone over there. A man in his early 40's I think. Charlie is the kind of woman to fall in love quite rapidly, and she doesn't always fall for the right ones... But I doubt that she would've given up her whole life for a man though..."
Walker blinked his eyes rapidly, wondering if an Agent like Callaway could have really fallen in love with a man to the point of going rogue.
"Did she tell you who was this man?" The young man sharing a resemblance with Agent Charlie Callaway gulped loudly at the question asked by Walker.
"Nope! She didn't tell me anything, she just sounded in a hurry when she called me a month ago. I didn't really pay attention to it, I just convinced myself that she perhaps had met the love of her life and that she was just taking some few days off with him, but when I arrived today and found out that my twin sister wasn't in here, I couldn't help calling the headquarters and this is when Miss Sloane informed me that Charlie had gone rogue."
He was indeed saddened by the turn of event, and Walker didn't blame him at all.
"Alright Mister Callaway, I think that'll be enough for today. Erica has your phone number, so I'll try to keep you updated with your sister. Hopefully, I'll find her as soon as my contact will inform me of her location. I'll bring her back to you!"
He nodded at the young man and returned in his SUV, but just before driving away from the Callaway's residence, the twin brother knocked on the window on August's side. Walker lowered down his window to hear what he had to say.
"If you find her and can't convince her to come back, tell her that our grandmother is very sick. She wouldn't forgive herself if her grandmother was passing away before she could see her one last time."
Walker couldn't help snickering when the young man obviously had no idea what his job was.
"Don't worry, I won't even need to convince her. That will be quite easy to bring her back my friend!"
Walker's SUV was then seen speeding off the residence, leaving the twin brother back to his lawnmower...
He drove off to the airport where he encountered Erica Sloane that was waiting for him near the Airport Check-In. She had his flight tickets ready...
"Any news concerning our blondie Agent?" Walker narrowed his blue eyes as Erica focused on the fact that she was blonde. It was rare that Erica was being familiar with an Agent, he didn't think that Erica was this close to Charlie, but he knew that Erica had helped Charlie at some point in her life, which probably explained why Erica wanted Charlie to be back and safe as soon as possible. She must have considerate Charlie like a daughter thought Walker.
"I spoke with her twin brother, and he told me that she called him while she was relaxing at this beach resort in Europe. He also told me that Charlie had met a man and that she was apparently in love with him. That could explain why she went rogue."
Walker quickly caught Erica's eyes turning into narrow slits, not appreciating what she was hearing at all. If looks could kill, it'd be the one trapped on Erica's face by now.
"I hope for her it wasn't a one night stand, she will have to explain herself when she'll be back in Washington, she will realize that her little escape with the love of her life has a price!"
Even though Walker found the situation funny, he knew better than laughing in front of a preoccupied Erica. He also knew that she was caring about this young agent, but at the same time, he could tell that she was disappointed by the way things had turned out.
"No worries, I'll find her and I'll bring her back." Walker informed Sloan that he'd do anything in his power to find the young woman.
"Do whatever you have to do Walker, even if you have to kidnap her against her will, I don't care, I just want her alive in front of me!"
Walker nodded his head and grabbed the tickets as Sloan held them to him. He caught his flight and slept throughout the whole trip from Washington to London in order to start his mission without any delays.

FOTOCRIME READY FOR ‘SOUTH OF HEAVEN’ WITH APOCALYPTIC NEW SONG “EXPULSION FROM PARADISE”
Their new album is out March 13th.  // See Fotocrime on tour now through May all over the globe.
Tumblr media
Equal parts heathen and heaven, Fotocrime’s new album is summoned from a darkness that lives all around us, deep within us. Fotocrime not only survives, but thrives in the shadows—beneath a heaviness that cannot be escaped, within melodies that defy light and dark. With South Of Heaven, the second full-length chapter in the project’s narrative, Fotocrime has found comfort on the fringe.
As the release of South of Heaven looms overhead, Fotocrime has unveiled the album’s third single: the driving, world-weary “Expulsion from Paradise.”  This is the first of the singles that features a full band in addition to electronic elements.  Drums/bass/guitars—  played by Hayden Menzies (Metz), Nick Thieneman (Young Widows), and Erick Denno (Kerosene 454), respectively—  were recorded at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini, while the vocals from Fotocrime frontman R. were recorded and mixed with J. Robbins at the Magpie Cage.
Watch + share the film noir-influenced music video for “Expulsion from Paradise” on YouTube.
South of Heaven is the backlit highway slithering from 2018’s debut full-length Principle of Pain, and the stories comprising South of Heaven are winding and boundless, unfolding with unexpected paths and hairpin turns. Touching the myths of Saturn and Phaethon and mining the lives of Bruno Ganz and Francis Bacon, South of Heaven carves a landscape that spans both earthly and astral planes.
“It’s been a journey of persistence and obsession, more character actor than leading man,” R. says. “South of Heaven is deeply personal, an honest fiction, an exposed nerve pulsing in a blanket of fog.”
South of Heaven will be released via Profound Lore on March 13, 2020 and is available for pre-order here.  Fotocrime will tour the world in support of the album - dates are listed below.

He is already the Supreme leader, searching the universe to find you, his Empress. Your name on his wrist has been the only constant in his life, while you have doubts about his existence and his acceptance of you. He isn’t in the database and why did the name Kylo Ren cover Ben Solo?
MASTERLIST
Chapter 44: Facing the Consequences
You awoke with pressure behind your ear. As you become more conscious you realized Kylo was leaving a love mark behind it, for whatever reason. “Ah, Kitten is awake. Good, I need to go to training.” He got up from behind you before pulling you up to do the same.
It was just as early as the other morning you had watched him train. You weren’t coherent enough for this, but he had said that he was going to keep an eye on you so that is what he intended on doing. You were a kitten on a leash or a songbird in a cage. You were attached to his hip.
You got up and got ready this time putting on a turtleneck and trousers in an attempt to hide his love marks. You did a subtle amount of makeup in an attempt to draw attention to your face and not the dark bruise behind your ear. When you came out of the bathroom Kylo hooked a finger in your collar while his lips grazed your cheek before whispering in your ear, “I know exactly what you are doing Kitten.” His finger then widens the opening of your neck while his lips dipped down to make one of your marks darker. His other hand came to squeeze your ass, “Mmm Kitten there is no time to play.”
He was telling you there was no time to play? He was the one obsessed with playing with you, you wanted to be left alone. He was the horny one, your spark mostly ignited when he kissed you or touch you in certain ways. Your body often betraying your brain.
Like the last time, you and he were to have breakfast after training. You were greeted by the lieutenant as usual. You all made your way to the room, the only real difference this time was the presence of Captain Phasma. You joined her and Hux on the outside of the circle. Phasma moved so they were now on either side of you.
Kylo and the knights proceeded to spar. He routinely glanced in your direction, you couldn’t tell if it was because he needed to make sure you were there or if it was because he was looking for something else. You made the conscious decision to ignore him.
The lieutenant produced a cup of stimcaf for you without you having to ask. That man needed a pay raise, you thought as you brought the just right temp liquid to your lips.
You were the first to speak in your little group, “I have been tasked to choose a lady in waiting. And I have no idea how to do it.”
You watched the general who contemplated your predicament, but it was Phasma who spoke up first. “The girl from the shopping center. She seemed to be knowledgable enough about what you would need.”
Before you could respond the Hux asked, “what was her name?”
“Olivia-Rose Gordon,” responded Lieutenant Mitaka.
This caused Hux to look up something on his data pad, “She is 27, unmarried, matchless, no children, a clean record. She would be a good candidate.”
Your head was spinning. “I can’t just ask her to be my lady in waiting.”
“Why not,” asked Phasma.
“Because she might feel pressured to accept and then she will be trapped in space far from home,” the weight of your words not fully hitting you yet.
“I assure you m’lady she will not be trapped. She will be given one of the most prestigious positions in the galaxy. She will be able to travel with you and given many luxuries your planet cannot offer her.”
Your mind was frozen. You knew she would be trapped with you if you were to ask her, would it even be fair? Before you could respond Phasma spoke once more, “she seemed taken with you m’lady, and she seemed interested in the opportunity to travel, she asked about it during her registration.”
“Send someone out of uniform to ask her, I don’t want her to be pressured into it. If she says no, we will need to respect that.”
“As you wish m’lady,” responded the general who then seemed to type out the order on his data pad.
You then just all seem to watch the training, your mind drifted back to the horrifying thought that you will no longer be able to be home in a matter of minutes. That small rational part of your brain kept telling you that you will still be in the solar system for a few days. That you will still be home in a sense.
Your mind then drifted to all the memories you didn’t get to make, all of the Friday nights going out to the bars with Carter and Hayden, all of the birthdays with your nieces and nephews, all of the holidays back at your parents’ place. You had no idea when you would become empress so you had no idea when you would be able to come back, if at all.
If Kylo was any other man you could simply reason with him to end any sort of romantic relationship, and just be platonic matches. You could then be free, and not caged like you are now, but he wasn’t any other man, and your heart wouldn’t be able to take it. You had to face the fact that you loved him, as twisted as he was becoming you did love him.
Another thought drifted into your mind, who would he choose? You were allowed to pick one of your ladies-in-waiting but who would he choose? Did he already know her? Did you already know her? Come to think of it you had yet to ask the general what happened while you were gone. How did Kylo react?
“Tell me general, how did he react to my departure?”
“I was able to have the damage done to your chambers repaired before we returned, but just barely. There are still several communications terminals that need repairs, an entire squadron of ‘troopers are still recovering in the medical bay, as is that female officer,” his voice trailed off.
“Oh, no what did he do to her,” you ask.
“It wasn’t pleasant, to say the least, she has a broken clavicle, a fractured sternum, several cracked ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and broken femur.”
“Why did he do it,” you were concerned you had rather liked her.
“Several reasons apparently, in his eyes she failed to report that you were leaving, both the lieutenant and I had orders from you one way or another as to not tell him, she did not. She had taken a few pieces of jewelry while you were packing, and she has had a not so subtle infatuation with the Supreme Leader. This is not uncommon among some of the younger female officers. Especially if they have had the chance to see him without his helmet.”
“Even if she did do all that she didn’t deserve to be beaten like that.”
“I say she got off better than execution,” replied Phasma. “She also attempted to seduce him once he cornered her.”
You felt as if you were not talking about the same sweet girl that helped you pack. “But she should have been demoted and reassigned, not have the crap beaten out of her.”
“I would have executed her,” commented Phasma.
You looked at her.
“What? It’s what I would have done,” she reasoned. Even through her helmet, you could hear that she was honestly telling the truth.
“I still feel bad, maybe I should go and apologize to her.”
“I don’t think that would be a wise decision m’lady. I also do not believe the Supreme Leader would allow it,” said Hux.
You frowned. Of course, he wouldn’t, but then again he would probably want to escort you so maybe it was for the best, not having him near her.
Kylo and the knights were wrapping up training, all of the high ranking officers done giving him their morning debriefings. Soon you would be at his will once more, following him wherever he pleased. He took your arm in his and took you back to your chambers.
You both ate breakfast before he got ready for the day, while he was in the shower Trudgen and Kuruk were waiting with you along with the lieutenant. You felt as if this was to tell you there would be no running away while he was busy. Once ready he informed you that he had one last meeting at the White House, to set up General Parnadee as the Commander of Earth.
You went about down the halls to the hangar where you were greeted by the large entourage of Hux, Parnadee, Phasma, Pyre and an escort of ‘troopers. Throughout the flight down to the surface Hux and Parnadee were discussing some of the importance of what she would be doing along with how many ‘troopers she would be expected to recruit initially.
The shuttle lands and you all depart. Kylo’s grip on your arm tightens and you feel the Force around you do too. No running. Even if you did have the chance to run, where would you run to?
Your parents would send you back, as would Carter and Hayden. The education they had received would be sure of that. You had no idea what state of mind your siblings would be in but you were pretty sure they were in the same boat. The entire planet was in the same boat. Your ark. And it was your covenant with Kylo that would keep it afloat. Your covenant would end the floods, and the suffering they may receive.
Before you and Kylo enter the room the Hux asked to speak to you for a moment, and by you he meant both of you seeing as Kylo refused to let you go.
“M’lady we have received an answer to your inquiry from earlier this morning,” said Hux.
“We have,” you honestly didn’t expect an answer so soon.
“Yes, m’lady. She has agreed to take the position as your lady-in-waiting. She will join you tomorrow on your departure from the Steadfast to the Supremacy. I have made arrangements for everything she will need. One of our seamstresses will assist you with packing, the lieutenant was kind enough to make an itemized list of your purchases, and everything will be checked. After that, any other trip you shall take one of your ladies-in-waiting will help you prepare,” responded Hux.
Really, he was the one running things, making sure the whole First Order was together and operating with stellar efficiency. Whereas Kylo was the hammer that cracked down anytime he saw fit. He had others do the work, but he made sure those others were people that could do their jobs. Just as he was going to have you be his diplomat. He was an enforcer, a brute, a beast. You would be refined, tame, and calculated. You needed to keep a closer eye on the general to learn tips from him. He almost always knew when to bite back at Kylo and when to hold off, but you suppose it was because they have been doing this dance longer than you had, and he knew all the steps.
Kylo then had Hux enter the room and you were left alone in the hallway with him. A hand came to hook itself under your chin to bring your eyes to meet his, or rather where his were supposed to be under his helmet.
“You will behave yourself. Your people are to believe that Earth is completely under General Parnadee’s control and therefore my control. They are not to know exactly when we are leaving. You will remain quiet unless it is called upon you to speak, do I make myself clear Kitten?”
“Yes, you made yourself very clear, Kylo,” you respond. You could feel his grip on your chin tighten as you said his name. But you had an agreement that if he called you Kitten when you were alone that meant you could call him Kylo.
He released your chin only after his leather-clad thumb swept over your lips, if he wasn’t wearing the helmet he would have kissed you. You entered the room together, much seemed the same except for all the projectors seemed to have video conferences with all of your world’s major leaders, like a giant U.N. meeting. Upon your entrance, everyone stood and gave a weird sort of salute, and in unison said, “Long Live the Supreme Leader.”
All of the eyes of the world leaders looked different than from just over a week ago, they now looked dead. Their eyes had no life behind them, no soul. You were afraid, you were very afraid. Your ark was now tainted with sin, the devil had won. Your people were no longer your people anymore. You were alone in the galaxy.

Completely Harmless Ch. 40
Right?

Chapter Forty Onward to Firfall!
Lily nodded at the foreman of the North Link site and looked curiously past him at what they were doing in the hills. It looked like a tunnel. Hadn’t there been a perfectly fine road around here? She pursed her lips and shrugged. There was too many boxes and debris for her to really tell what was going on.
“What do you want now?”
“To give you payment for work with actual permits,” Lily said. “And cookies.”
The foreman’s brow furrowed. “Are you trying to bribe me?”
“Fresh baked cardamom cookies,” Lily opened the box and waved them towards him. “I mean, I can eat them all myself.” She reached into the box.
“No!” The foreman shouted and then flushed catching himself. “What do you need?” His eyes strayed to the cookie box with longing.
“Bulldozers and excavators. We’ve got skips on route from Jorvik City. We need equipment.”
The foreman rubbed the back of his neck. “I can’t keep loaning you our equipment.”
“Then no cookies,” Lily pouted and shut the box getting ready to tuck it back in her saddlebag.
“Where?” The foreman barked.
“North of Dundull,” Lily smirked. She had him now. “The road to Firfall has had an avalanche. We want you to help dig it out for shillings and cookies.”
He plucked at his lip and eyed the box of cookies. “That is more than one box of cookies type of job.”
“How many boxes?” Lily asked.
“Ten,” the foreman said firmly.
“Done,” Lily grinned. She handed over the box in her hands. “We’ll lead your men there. Linda, come give this guy half his payment!”
Linda was on the phone with the Baroness. She handed over a sack of shillings to the foreman. “Other half on completion of the work,” she said as she nodded to whatever the Baroness was saying.
The foreman took the shillings, juggling the box of cookies into his other arm.
“Do you want your cookies now, or would you like to wait until we stop for lunch?” Lily asked. “Ten boxes of cookies is quite a bit.”
The foreman bit his lip. “I’ll wait,” he said as he rummaged in the box and ate half a cookie in one bite. His eyes rolled upwards. “I’ll go get the men together,” he said around the cookie and jogged off.
They made quite a parade as they left North Link, turned east at Silverglade Village, and crossed the bridge to get to the Fire Path to head towards Mistfall. The Silver Drakes on their horses were in front and to the sides of the machines. The Baroness’ car and Bjorn’s truck followed in the rear.
Meeting the Flying Foxes near Dundull, they turned North up what was little more than a logging road. At the site, there were several Rangers. They weren’t happy to see the G.E.D. uniforms. But there were several skips already in place for the debris.
Agnetha got out of her truck and revved her chainsaw. “Girls, latch onto the bushes and drag them away as I cut,” she said.
The girls took ropes out of their bags and the work began. The bulldozers treads were able to get up and over the broken stones and dirt and pushed it towards southern Mistfall. From there, the excavators picked it up to dump it into the skips. If there were bushes or brambles, Agnetha and Bjorn took them with their chainsaws, while the girls dragged them to the skips and dumped them in.
They broke for lunch. The Silver Drakes brought out the promised cookies for the G.E.D. workers.
After lunch, they went back to work. By evening, the Baroness was able to drive through Rovar’s Gap. The lights of the car hitting the forest trees on the other side.
Linda paid them and it was another odd parade back to North Link.
The Baroness insisted on inspecting the North Link work site herself. After being given cookies, and being paid a fair amount for a day’s labor, the foreman couldn’t refuse her. Not that it was wise to refuse Baroness Silverglade. They were right next to her lands and if she cared to not look the other way, they’d be gone like the oil field was gone. And they well knew it.
The road continued northwards as it should while G.E.D. were digging into the mountain towards the west. Their equipment and the debris from the tunnel blocked the road more than their excavations did.
The Baroness gave the foreman a look and ordered him to keep his workings to one side of the road so people could pass and put one of the trainees on directing the traffic. She would send someone back to make sure her orders were being obeyed.
The foreman didn’t bother trying to bluster. He hung his head, nodded, and that was that.
It had been an interesting day. Maybe they’d get some answers tomorrow about what had happened by the Weeping Widow. But no one was betting on it.
--
Pauline made a schedule about who was to take care of Techno each day. It was another addition to their daily chores. Not that any of them minded. Techno was a friendly dog who enjoyed the horses’ company.
The contractors were setting the walls up onto the footings they’d put into the concrete floor when they’d poured it. This apparently required a small crane. Things were moving right along and the Riding Arena hadn’t been vandalized for the second day in a row.
The grapes took priority over Firfall though. They spent the morning helping Agnetha spray the moldy grape vines (masks on, safety first) and planting roses at the end of each row of grapes. Like Agnetha had explained to the Baroness, the roses were more sensitive to fungus and rot and the like, so they’d be affected by any blight before the grapes. They’d just have to be inspected.
“Like everything else,” Elsa drawled.
Once the grapes, the Manor’s livelihood, were done. They took the transport to Dundull so they could ride up to Firfall with the Flying Foxes.
The road was long and littered with logs.
“We’ll have to clear those,” Sonja said. “If we want traffic between the towns.”
Lily nodded.
The road went between two lakes and between those lakes and another one to the north, they found the town of Firfall nestled in a fir forest. It had stone houses with large logs as bracers. In fact, it reminded Lily of a mix between Valedale and Firgrove architecture. Though it had a Tudor flair to it that those two villages lacked.
There was a stable of course.
The stable master waved at them and introduced herself as Genevieve Goldtooth. “Welcome to Firfall! You’re the first visitors we’ve had in an age.”
“That’s what happens when Rovar’s Gap has an avalanche over the winter,” Sonja said. “I’m Sonja, this is Luciana and Rania. We’re of the Dundell Flying Foxes Riding Club.” She gestured at the rest of them. “And these are our friends the Silver Drakes Riding Club.”
“Lily,” Lily said and held out her hand. “I’ll let the others make their own introductions.”
“My, there are a lot of you,” Genevieve murmured looking at them all dazed.
“Well, we’ve never been to Firfall,” Lily said cheerfully. She sobered. “Actually, as much as we’d love to explore your village. I’m here on a job from the Baroness. Dark Core has an illegal mine site to the mountains north of here. We’re worried that their dumping is putting toxins into the water. I’m here to take samples for Professor Hayden.”
“Oh, you must see our Medieval Faire first and we’ve got a pub with great food and a bunch of little shops and even a medieval market. We also have Irish Draught horses if you’re interested.”
“That sounds great,” Pauline said.
Genevieve was happy to show them around. Lily slipped away and took her samples and the north and southern sides of each lake. She capped them and labelled them for Hayden and snuck back in time for chips and burgers at the pub.
There were a couple of farmers around, Gary Goldtooth was the biggest and he kept pigs.
There wasn’t a lot of arable land around Firfall. So they relied on keeping animals like sheep, pigs, cattle, and chicken, for which they traded for grains. They kept vegetable plots of course and there were berries in the woods. Along with truffles, that’s why Gary kept pigs.
They all nodded.
“Central Jorvik is Jorvik’s breadbasket,” Genevieve dropped the information casually.
“That makes sense,” Lily said.
They thanked her for her time and rode back to Dundull.
“Well,” Luciana said. “That’s all very interesting.”
“I bet it won’t take long for word to spread that there’s a stable open in Firfall.” Pauline grinned.
“And I’m not going to take that bet.” Lily rolled her eyes.
“Why not?” Pauline pouted.
“You’re emailing pictures to Linda. I’m off to Valedale.” Lily smirked at Pauline and caught the first transport to Valedale.
Linda and Alex were talking with Professor Hayden as she approached. Starshine, the white and grey stallion, huffed alerting every one of her presence.
Linda smiled up at her. “Lily!”
Lily leaned down and passed her water and soil sample vials to Hayden. “Samples from Firfall, Professor.”
He grumbled but took them. He set to work checking them both for contaminants. All the while he muttered that he loved bugs and this wasn’t his job.
“Yes it is,” Lily said. “I’ve watched Bones.” She paused and tilted her head. “Okay, maybe he had more than one degree, but he was a bug and dirt guy and you have to know whats in the water and dirt because that’s where your bugs live. Healthy water and soil, healthy bugs.”
Hayden glared at her. “Young whippersnapper, don’t tell me how to do my job.”
“I wasn’t telling you how to do it. I was merely pointing out contrary to you whining which is very unbecoming, that it is in fact your job.”
“No respect these days, none.”
Lily sighed dramatically. “You have a valid coping mechanism in place for it. Who am I to stop you from complaining?”
Linda and Alex restrained laughter.
Hayden finished and slapped the new reports onto Linda’s clipboard. “These are for the Baroness. Not that she’ll know how to read them.”
“Then write notes in proper English so everyone can understand,” Lily looked up at the sky as if she could read the future in the clouds.
Hayden grabbed a butterfly net and stomped off.
“You shouldn’t be so mean to him,” Linda scolded.
“I’m barely being mean. He rants about youth all the time and wants us to respect him.” Lily snorted. “He’s a grouch. If he was nicer, I wouldn’t poke at him so much.”
Alex glanced about for Avalon and lowered her voice. “Is there a place that’s secure where we can all meet?”
“All?”
“I guess, we want to talk to all the riding clubs.”
“You do know that’s close to 150 girls at the moment. I’m not sure even the Council house in Silverglade can hold that many. Let me get on the phone.” Lily pulled her phone out and sent a President wide text about places to hold a meeting that was secure and could hold everyone.
Ingrid volunteered the Flea Market building in Firgrove. No one was using it at the moment and it was big enough to hold over two hundred people.
“Okay, when?” Lily asked.
“Is now all right?”
Lily sent out more texts. “Now seems good. Though Loretta says she’s got an argument in Moorland about which thirteen girls are forming a club in Firfall.” Lily muttered. “Handle it, Loretta. No. This isn’t my fault.”
“Are there any campers left?” Linda asked and cocked her hip.
“I’m not sure,” Lily rubbed her forehead. “I mean. Mr. Moorland could be replacing them as fast as they go.”
Alex chuckled. “Maybe.”
Lily’s phone kept buzzing and presidents checked in with saying they’d bring chairs or snacks or drinks.
“There isn’t room for almost two hundred horse at Firgrove,” Lily muttered as she texted exactly that.
The Timber Wolves were already on it setting up a temporary paddock out near the Fire Trail past the mine. They had rolls and rolls of fencing and poles.
“Usually we only convene the Presidents,” Lily explained. “And Vice Presidents.”
“We want to clear the air all at once.”
“Then if you want to get there first, we better go now.” Lily tucked her phone away.
They took a transport over to Firgrove and got their horses settled with Felicity at the stables. She looked baffled. “Are we having a convention?”
“Yep,” Lily said.
“Huh. Well, I’ll have Ma Anna send pastries and a bunch of hot drinks.” Felicity smiled at them.
“Thanks,” Alex said. “You think anyone will bring Cheetos.”
Linda rolled her eyes. “You and your Cheetos.”
The Firgrove Flea Market was a huge log building among all the different cottages. Ingrid waved them inside. “The others are walking up. We’ve got more chairs coming and we put up some tables for refreshments.”
It took a bit for everyone to arrive and actually get settled. Most of them goodnaturedly help set out chairs and made sure there were enough cups for beverages.
Ginny apologized to Lily that Elise Kemball couldn’t make it. She hadn’t yet moved to New Hillcrest to join the Club.
“You can fill her in later if you need to,” Lily said. “I’m not sure what Linda wants to talk about anyways.”
Alex did get a bag of Cheetos. Maya had sent them with Tan.
Linda clutched her clipboard looking slightly nervous.
“Okay ladies,” Lily spoke up. “Welcome to Firgrove. Thank you Ingrid and the Timber Wolves for hosting all of us. And there are a lot of us. Horse girl power!” Lily shook her fist.
The girls cheered at that and laughed.
“Now, I understand that there are going to be more of us soon as the road to Firfall has opened up and more girls from Moorland Summer Camp want to form a club near its pristine lake and quaint medieval style town complete with it’s own medieval fair and tourney! Which all sounds very exciting to me.”
The girls clapped and cheered more.
“More girls to join our horse army!” Lily gestured. “But, we all know that were stable girls, completely, perfectly, prettily, eh, mostly harmless. We’re a sisterhood that while we compete with each other, when push comes to shove, we ride together. Now, this isn’t my meeting. May I introduce to you, the lovely Silverglade Equestrian Center Manager, Linda Chanda and her friend Alex,” Lily paused.
“Cloudmill,” Alex supplied in a low voice.
“Alex Cloudmill, whose little brother James is part owner of Fort Pinta stables. But she’s the better sibling.”
More laughter.
“Linda, Alex,” Lily gestured and stepped to the side.
Linda cleared her throat again and shuffled her clipboard and book holding them to her stomach. “When Lily said almost 150 of you, I didn’t expect it to look like so many.” She shifted up her glasses. “Um, I should have prepared notecards. I guess we need to start at the beginning and there are a lot of different groups you’ve noticed on Jorvik. You’ve no doubt run into G.E.D. or Dark Core or the Keepers of Aideen as you’ve been working or riding about. They aren’t hard to miss.”
The girls settled in and nodded.
“So, um, you might not know that G.E.D. stands for Global Energy Domination. Not very subtle, pretty much what they say on the tin. They’re trying to take over Jorvik and the rest of the world’s energy resources. So, they’ve been mining and searching for things around the county and probably all around the island.” Linda fiddled with her clipboard.
“Like in Hillcrest,” Ginny spoke up. “They’ve got the entire town barricaded off.”
“They’re searching for things around Jarlaheim too, crystals,” Josefina said.
“And we chased them out of Moorland and the Silver Fields,” Lily nodded.
“They have dump sites all over too,” Ingrid added.
“They’re currently digging west into a mountain by North Link,” Lily said. She crossed her arms. “They barricaded of the West Jorvik Highway northwards. The Baroness has ordered them to keep one lane free going forward to restore traffic to the North Golden Hills Valley area.”
Loretta spoke up. “So, I’m going to have more girls fighting over making clubs up there next?”
“Probably,” Lily said dryly.
“G.E.D. are easy to spot. They’re as unsubtle as their name. The other group that has been causing trouble is Dark Core. Especially on the Moorland South Beach and South Hoof Peninsula North Beach, and in Valedale. Their motives are murkier than G.E.D.,” Linda said and shifted again. “Before I explain more about Dark Core, I need to explain the Keepers of Aideen.”
“The druids,” Melissa said sourly.
“The Keepers of Aideen aren’t druids in the way that other cultures understand druids. They don’t worship nature in that fashion though they are supposed to be fiercely protective of it and the horses of Jorvik.” Linda bit her lip.
Alex snorted. “Supposed to be.”
“What the Keepers are, are the protectors of the knowledge of Aideen, the Goddess of Jorvik. I’m sure you’ve seen her statue in Aideen’s Plaza if you’ve gone to Jorvik City. The Keepers of Aideen believe that Aideen gave life to Jorvik and that she bestowed magical powers upon her chosen ones and they are her Soul Riders.”
(Skills, Factions, Professions, Crafting, Mini-Games, 25+ horse breeds!) If you know anyone who would be interested and has money or contacts about game making, direct them to the blog.
