DISCOMFORT . As a collective we’re experiencing our shadow showing up aggressively in our face saying pay attention to me. . During these times it’s often easier to want to walk or run away and hide, to pretend it’s not real, to ignore the discomfort. . Here’s the thing though, true transformation doesn’t happen in ignoring the hard and dark things, it comes when we sit in those moments, when we stare the discomfort head on and say this sucks and it awkward and uncomfortable but I’m going to stay and do the work anyway. . Life isn’t all joy and happiness and light all the time, it also isn’t anger and sadness and darkness all the time. It’s a messy combination of both and we have to as humans be willing to experience the full range of emotions. . Listen white friends, I know this work we’re doing is hard. It might be brining you shame and discomfort. GOOD. It should. But the appropriate response isn’t to ignore it or pretend it isn’t happening. . The appropriate response is to get uncomfortable. Educate yourself on white supremacy. Educate yourself on the ACTUAL history of America. Learn all the ways it’s broken. Pay Black people for their labor. Then start working to dismantle those systems. . Educate your white friends and family members. Challenge them. Have uncomfortable conversations. Do research on the places you spend your money at, go out of your way to avoid places that use prison labor or that donate to shitty causes and spend money at Black owned businesses. . We can’t dismantle the imperialist white supremacist capitalist heretopatriarchal system we live in it we’re unwilling to sit in this transformative period. .
