They say “everything happens for a reason.” I believe that. They say “some people come into our life just to tell us what love is not.” I believe them. They say “I know it hurts sometimes but you’ll get over it.” Yes. I believe them. They say “people fade away but memories last.” Oh they sure af do. And even after believing in all of the shit above, it still hurts sometimes. It’s never easy to not look back. Never easy to let it hurt and then let it go. Never easy to let it just be a chapter in your life and move on to the next. Because every time you turn your page, you linger midway. And hesitate. You want to read that last line again, just to be okay with the next part. And I think that’s when we are the most vulnerable. When we decide to ache a little while longer holding on to things that are slipping away just to save ourselves from suffering the consequences of not being enough to have them with us forever….and so saying all that. There is truth in the saying behind every cloud is a silver lining, as you choose what to focus on. Holding on to past hurts is a sure way of staying in the pain and that is something our minds are predisposed to do. It does not mean not acknowledging the hurt, but that you should process it and then let it go. That means, removing the thorn from the happening so that it cannot cause you more pain. Why, you ask? because our mind tends to zero in on past hurts. Focusing on uplifting moments is better than dwelling on past hurts, as dwelling on it causes you more pain. Instead be thankful that you survived, which in itself is cause for happiness. Your life does not get better by chance but by choice. The choices you make are informed by the quality of your thoughts and depend on the quality of your mind. Learn to change the things you can and accept the things you cannot change.

It is important to forgive. If you’ve experienced trauma and hurt, it can be such a burden when you hold onto the experience and the pain. Each time you think about it, you relive it! Your brain doesn’t know the difference between when it happened and when your mind replays the trauma. So you suffer all over again. Your brain and your body release stress hormones, your sympathetic tone increases, impacting your gut, your heart, your brain. Every time you relive it in your mind, your create the hurt for yourself all over again. Let Go!!! Trust me! I know about the evils in the world and I have struggled with pain and suffering inflicted upon me which some would consider “unforgivable “. However, in the end forgiveness is a choice you make for yourself. It has nothing to do with the person who hurt you. You MUST forgive and you MUST let go to be happy in the now. Let the past go! Choose forgiveness and freedom for yourself. And if you feel pressure from those around you to keep reliving the trauma, it’s time to change the people in your life to one’s who want happiness for you. ❤️.
