The point of Shinichiro and Takemichi is not that they're weak. it's that they refuse to fight people weaker than them, so ofc they always get beaten up - they only fight stronger people
It's said explicitly in canon but i think we all need to remember that from time to time bc, yeah, they're strong. (it's just that people they're willing to fight are even stronger. and when that's not the case, well, i think the drunkards Shinichiro beat up in the og timeline are a good example. and that's without mentioning the pole he punches before meeting Takemichi and giving him the power. also they're tanks but that's something fans remember more easily lol)

randomly thought that lauretta should be in m2 canon like she has such a sly hypocritical personality with ability to change her behavior depending on who she's talking to (ok this is how tumblr wrote her but it's canon to me), andddd can u imagine if she had interaction with vito.......... maybe some mission from her (something she asks vito to do secretly behind carlo's back?)

so extremely humbling to finally read a book that you’ve been avoiding for months solely based on its popularity only to find that it’s actually really good

i think that if Lightyear (2022) didn't have the meat-bread-meat sandwich scene i would like the movie way more. the sandwitch gag was just so flabbergasting and honestly gross (so unhygienic!!!) that it yanked me out of the "being immersed in a story with my disbelief suspended" into "Who In Their Right Mind Wrote This Into The Movie Script. Am I, The Viewer, Supposed To Think This Is Funny?" soooo fast (and it was already losing me with all the new watery characters and the lackluster zurg plotline). there's a cool scifi story happening before & after that scene and Those events are always shown as something natural, i guess (within the setting they make total sense, i mean), and i always trust the main character to know what to do and Belong in the story. but the sandwiches were weird and alien even to him and even moreso weird and alien to me by extension... and that feeling of weirdness contributed to nothing re: mood of the moment/overarching plot/character development and it wasnt even FUNNY. if the creators wanted to include the sandwich so bad they needed to have zurg eat it to show what a deranged freak he is.

Curious about what characters fandom has made you hate and why if you’re willing to share 🖤
Haha, I mean, honestly, I don't really hate any characters, because they're just characters, y'know? But I think I am definitely impacted sometimes by full-on stans, particularly shipping stans who harrass, dox or even just suck the oxygen out of a space.
The Stranger Things fandom can be especially bad for that, and I've mentioned it on here before, but Billy Hargrove was the first tag I ever blacklisted on tumblr which was definitely more thanks to fandom than his character (although I never liked his character). I still love Eddie's character (and am still writing that fic), but some of his stans, particularly some of his shippers, give me a lot of pause too.
The other character that immediately springs to mind is actually Greg from Succession. I like how he functions in the narrative of the show, but I find Nicholas Braun pretty one-note and not as funny as everyone else seems to. I also lowkey hold his Emmy nomination against him, especially because I think it belonged to Alan Ruck who is doing a hell of a lot more with Connor than Nicholas Braun is doing with Greg.

going through my tag for fanart to save to my computer and I was reminded about one of the things I like least about the romance and about hc as a character and it's that he's always so...eager to please? this might sound like a weird complaint for a worshipper/god romance but it's honestly such a pet peeve when a character is trying to like be this flawless servant with all the information who can do anything at all times. I just think it's boring! And annoying. I liked him most when he was at his most genuine and self-conscious in the cave right before the confession scene, in all honesty

..... Oh I see. It's okay you don't have to tell me, I'm sure you have your reasons. Don't do anything dumb though okay?

actually i just realized why interpretations of [atla] characters that are like “aang doesn’t lie” (blatantly textually false) or “katara would be offended by swearing” (sensically false) are so common. aang and katara are the most overtly ethical characters in the show, and people [subconsciously] associate morality with honesty and “clean language.” but none of aang’s principles preclude him from lying (he lies. a lot), just as nothing in katara’s moral code dictates that she must be a square (she is, in fact, the furthest thing from a square, and if you argue otherwise you are simply misremembering her character). i can understand why people think that an ethically principled person would consider honesty a virtue, even if aang clearly doesn’t, but the association between morality and language feels like a very christian (to broadly generalize) conception of “sin” and moral transgression that doesn’t map onto the atla characters whatsoever, and is entirely a projection of the largely american (and otherwise western) viewership. inversely, fanart that depicts “modern au” azula as some kind of goth abg with dyed hair and leather pants also attempts to map our internalized notions of how aesthetics are illustrative of morality onto a character who would clearly never present herself in any way countercultural. if azula were suddenly transported to montclair, new jersey, she would be a conservative and present herself accordingly (most likely scenario she would dress like shiv roy). i’m not saying all this to condemn the activity of projecting onto characters, as i clearly participate and engage in these fandom-cultural practices, but rather that i think it’s important we be mindful of what connotations are carried in certain interpretations and depictions, because even our subconscious associations can stem from a legacy of cultural contexts, often embedded within harmful institutions we may not consciously wish to associate with, or that are simply not useful or relevant associations when thinking through whatever thing we are in the process of fandomitizing.
