All these kids going on about the Spider-Verse and whatnot, got me thinking about some incarnations of Spider-Man that I believe are pretty unlikely to show up in those films, though it would be very entertaining if they did. One of my favorites are probably from the time when Marvel allowed noted alternative cartoonist Peter Bagge to draw a Spidey issue, and he created "The Megalomaniacal Spider-Man":

The story takes a few twists and turns, but the general premise is that Peter Parker decides that being a crime-fighting superhero is a childish and unhealthy waste of time...

...and starts reading Ayn Rand, which turns him into a self-centered dickhead (shocking, I know).

I enjoy the reference to the old Charles Atlas ads when Peter kicks the chair. Anyway, Peter becomes a ruthless businessman, founding "Spider-Man Inc.", which is so successful that he can buy The Daily Bugle and make J. Jonah Jameson his cringing underling.

As I said, there are a few twists and turns in the story, but it ends with Peter eventually becoming a bitter recluse in a crappy apartment.

But on the plus side, Gwen Stacy survived!

My impression is that Bagge turns Peter Parker into a loving parody/tribute to noted Ayn Rand fan and Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko. Bagge is a libertarian himself, so I belive that his intended message with the story isn't "objectivism turns you into an asshole" so much as it is "many people learn the wrong lessons from reading Ayn Rand". Make of that what you will. In any case, I would love to see Miles and the gang deal with this weirdo:

Oh, and speaking of recluses, another version I would love to see in the Spider-Verse would be Kate Beaton's "Brown Recluse Spider-Man".

I haven’t seen the “Flex Patrol” episode of Doom Patrol yet, but in terms of the Young Animal comics, especially the “Weight of the Worlds” issue that I just read, Flex Mentallo is such a good character? Like in terms of appearance he’s literally a parody of those old timey Charles Atlas ads but he is so supportive of his wacky team and he just wants them at their healthiest and he understands that that takes different forms for different team members. His muscles are big because they are full of kindness and goodness.

Also altering reality via flexing different muscles is one of the coolest and funniest superpowers I can think of.

It’s been kind of a quiet year for me, I haven’t done as much as usual. Some general notes first: I’ve been in two readalongs this year but didn’t finish either of them. The first one being the new Brick readalong and the other one the Count of Monte Cristo one. I really do want to finish the latter at some point! Teen Titans 54 page 20! last story page but not the last page of the comic, 2 pin up pages follow, then a parody of the old Charles Atlas ads that used to run in comics, starring Starfire as babe o’ the beach! it’s funny. let this be a lesson to fans everywhere. you own the characters, do what you want with them, but don’t be surprised if they have their own ideas. hey look it’s Nightwing, in his powder blue Elvis collar. that outfit struck fear into the hearts of criminals, a cowardly and superstitious, also fashion conscious lot. yep. they were afraid to fight a man brave enough to go out in that outfit. the great thing about drawing Death is once you’re done drawing her, you’re also done colouring her! :D

Charles Atlas turned well known from the trunk of amusing books. A lot of people recall (or have seen parodies of) the bully on the beach stopping mud in the thin kid's face. The foundation of active stress is making use of your muscles against each other to get a workout. Like, if you add you correct hand out like you're likely to shake someone's hand, and then change your hand face up, and then placed your remaining give on top of that, face down, you'd have the setup for your bicep exercise. You would only push downward along with your left hand while attempting to increase your correct hand. Parts of your muscles work against each other to make opposition (and thus "tension.")

In the example above your remaining tricep (back of one's left top arm) is forcing against your correct bicep (front of one's correct top arm) to obtain the tension. If you reverse the hand orientation you would be training your proper tricep and your remaining bicep. Slowly raising and decreasing the contact level (where your arms meet) as you exercise can provide you with a pretty intense workout. Maintaining that anxiety for provided that possible may be significantly fatiguing, but since you're pitting your own personal muscles against each other there is very little chance of injury. By using this same sort of concept you are able to place yourself in a doorway placing your palms (facing out) at around shoulder height and force outward. This could offer you a full supply work out and also engage your neck muscles.

I believe combining powerful pressure methods with body weight workouts can give a beginner a great workout. Bodyweight exercises use parts of your muscles to manipulate the human body fat to provide you with a workout. This approach is comparable to the energetic stress program in that you do not require any exercise equipment to obtain in a great workout. As a subject of fact bodyweight is used in lots of aerobics lessons along with the P90X workout system. Body weight alone can definitely provide anybody at any fitness level a work generating, muscle stimulating exercise session.

This issue talks about training, and gym, and how to become thin, or the new Charles Atlas. 

It is really funny to see how this, at the time, was a parody, but now is a serious topic with tons of people making testimonies and videos and blogs and stuff about it.

There is a page dedicated to the “inadequate” health methods and their dreadful side effects.

The first one is the Diet method, to make people fat thin. The two side effects discussed as 1- how losing weight means losing weight all over your body, even in places where you don’t want to lose weight (the example is a fat and plump woman with wide hips and a beautiful chest, that ends up skinny with a tiny waist and no chest at all). 2- diets remove the fat, yes, but if you’re too big, the skin will stay to its original stretched side (the picture is that of a sumo wrestler that, upon losing weight, looks like the Lady from Little Nightmares).

The second method tested is the Exercise method. Its two side effects are 1- only the muscles exercised develop themselves (example, a skinny lad builds up his arms and torso, but forgets to work on his legs, which stay thin and skinny, resulting in the famous “chicken legs”) 2- exercizing a lot develops a huge appetite, which may lead to over-eating and “unwanted new muscle” (the example is another skinny man who ends up buff, yes, but also with a huge and round gut - basically it’s a bulk that went wrong, something you can find a ton of videos about on Youtube). 

The third method is the “Equipment method”, but it is now inadequate because there are so many machines and equipments to do the exercise for you or facilitate said exercises, that in the end it’s the same as not doing anything at all.
