Okay, If Max were to propose Mariam on her 23rd birthday, what would it be like? Please write something on this, I am eagerly waiting to see this content written by you.

Firstly, thank you much for the ask @velox-the-knight. I thought I’d do one better and write a short one shot fanfic on this. But I’ve tweaked the facts a little. I’ve made it so that they’re both 28 (23 feels a bit too early for someone like Max to marry idk?) and I’ve not made it on her birthday. But I’ll hope you’ll like this!

FAIRYTALE

The path to the dojo was covered in chrysanthemums and a young, blithe man strolled down the road, inhaling the fresh scent of spring into his lungs in the hopes that it would inspire him to finally pop the big question. The golden strands of his hair mirrored the bright beams of the radiant sun above, and twenty-eight-year-old Max Mizuhara strode into his best friend’s house with every ounce of his courage tucked away in a little black box in his pocket. Today was the day that he would ask her to marry him.

The familiar, idyllic setting of Takao’s house greeted him at the entrance and comforted him as he tried to pull himself together and calm his nerves. The oddly mature words of wisdom of his precocious younger sister, Charlotte, surfaced in his mind – if you know she’s the one, then she is. If she’s not, you can move on to other things. Like buying me a Playstation.

His eyes scanned the dojo. He half hoped that Daichi would not spring out of some corner with a bowl of soup in his hand and ruin the bouquet of wild flowers that Max was carrying, by tripping and falling over some rock as usual. Max’s mother, Judy, had not appreciated Daichi’s clumsiness when he had all but destroyed her immaculate designer pantsuit by spilling a drink on it by accident.

I can’t believe that I brought flowers, he thought to himself amused. Max had never really been the flowers-and-chocolates type of boyfriend. Romantic gifts were more of Rei and Takao’s domain. Mariam and Max had always had a jovial, easy-going relationship. They did many things together – from trekking to mountaintops and sleeping under the stars together, to skydiving and dancing at carnivals to which Raul and Julia often invited them. But romantic cliches had never been something that either of them was particularly fond of.

Growing up with parents who rarely lived in the same city, Max had never had the occasion to watch any romance blossom between them. Family dinners were often a cold affair, with his mother being an emotionally distant workaholic and his father being in blissful denial about the crumbling state of their marriage. Even as things had improved between his parents after he had won his first world championship, Max’s faith in romance and marriage had forever been marred by the shadow of his childhood in a dead home.

Yet, here he was, ready to ask the love of his life to marry him, with flowers no less. The irony was not lost upon him.

Oddly, it was his two friends Kai and Hiromi who had suggested that he take flowers with him as he proposed to her. Max could swear he almost choked on his drink as he heard those words leave Kai’s mouth. It made him wonder if, in private, Kai had actually ever given his nature-loving boyfriend Brooklyn any flowers. The thought of a romantic Kai seemed almost as inconceivable to him as the thought of Yuri and Takao’s errant brother Hitoshi hooking up. But stranger things had happened in their world – Balkov becoming a reality show star, for one. He certainly gave the Kardashians some stiff competition in the vanity department. Yuri almost retched at seeing Balkov’s vainglorious Instagram account.

Chuckling, Max looked down at his bouquet as the memory of his last conversation with his friends popped up in his mind.

“You listen to me Maximilian Mizuhara…”

“Actually, it’s just Max,” said Max, cutting her short, meekly.

“Did I say that you could interrupt me?” growled Hiromi, rolling her eyes. “Now, as I was saying…you have to get her flowers! You can’t propose without flowers to a woman who has been raised in the mountains in the lap of nature. Back me up, Hiwatari!”

Kai put down his drink on the table and shrugged. “You heard the woman.”

“You can’t be serious,” said Max, surprised. “And what if she does not like flowers?”

“Then you can take off your clothes and hope that she forgets about the flowers when she sees you in your magnificent birthday suit,” said a drunk Takao, laughing at his own joke without a care in the world.

“Takao!” said Hiromi, smacking him lightly on his head.

“Ow, what was that for?” said Takao, crossly.

“Your jokes are getting worse every day. Soon you’ll give Ivan a run for his money and that is not a compliment. Ask Yuri and Boris. They had to make a jar specifically for him in which he has to drop a penny every time he makes a terrible joke. There was enough money in it by the end of the year for Yuri to buy Julia a gift pack from Victoria’s Secret and have money left over for Boris and Sergei to go drinking expensive wine at Ralf’s vineyard. Do you want me to make such a jar for you too?” said Hiromi, narrowing her eyes.

“If it helps get you your favorites from Victoria’s Secret, why not,” said Takao, playfully.

Hiromi blushed and pretended to text on her phone.

“Okayyyy, get a room you two,” said Rei, laughing.

“Alright, guys, can we deal with my problem before Mr. World Champion here starts his drunken monologue? Is it yay or nay on the flowers? Won’t it be too cliched for Mariam to appreciate?” said Max, frowning.

“Make it so that it isn’t,” said Kai, in a deep voice.

 Make it so that it isn’t. I hope I’m doing this right.

Max walked further into the dojo to see Mariam sitting on the porch, with her long blue strands of hair casually tied up on top of her head in a bun. She was dressed in a white shirt and red skirt, while a tattoo of Sharkrash on her smooth, porcelain skin glimmered under the light of the sun. Max gasped as he watched his beautiful girlfriend concentrate on the book that she was reading, one that Max instantly recognized as his favorite, personal copy of Bitches Gotta Beyblade. Ming Ming had written quite the tantalizing but wonderful biography of her life as a beyblading and singing sensation – and though Max had initially found her annoying during her BEGA days, he had come to admire her over the years. Juggling school and Beyblade while winning Grammys every year was no mean feat.

As Max stepped into the garden by the little pond, Mariam lifted her face from her book and looked at him with a smile on her face.

“Maxie. What’s up? Why are we meeting at the dojo when neither Takao nor grandpa are here? Feels a little weird,” said Mariam, suspiciously.

“Weird? Why is that? We’re always hanging out at the dojo on weekends,” said Max, hiding the bouquet behind his back.

“You know…like we’re trespassing or something while he’s not around,” said Mariam.

“Trespassing? Did your conscience prick you like this when you were stalking me day and night to seal my bit-beast?” teased Max.

“For the last time Max, I wasn’t stalking. I was just gathering intel,” said Mariam, feigning annoyance.

“Alright, Mata Hari, pipe down,” quipped Max. “Ozuma can’t hear you, you know. We both know that you couldn’t get enough of me.”

“Oh yeah, and who was the one putting on all the moves in a collapsing building? Seriously Max, who flirts when they’re almost about to get crushed by a building?” said Mariam, playfully.

“Guilty as charged, m’lady,” said Max, laughing.

Mariam uncrossed her legs and leaned against a wooden pillar casually. “What have you got behind you?”

A romantic cliché, that’s what.

“Hmm, let’s see,” said Max, pulling out the bouquet and presenting it to her.

“Flowers…” said Mariam, surprised.

“Not just any flowers,” said Max, handing her the bouquet.

Mariam looked more closely at the bouquet and Max could see her face lighting up.

“Orchids…from my village in the mountains…” said Mariam, looking touched.

Max knew that Mariam missed her village frequently. Even though she quite liked her life as a marine biologist, free from the shackles of her tribe’s strict and conservative rules, Max often found her wistfully longing for the mountains that she called her home. He knew that if flowers were the way to go, he would personally write to Yusuf and request him to send them to Japan, where he and Mariam were living temporarily after taking a sabbatical from their jobs in California.

“What…what’s the occasion?” said Mariam.

Oh boy, here goes.

“Well…I don’t know how to do this…” mumbled Max, as he slipped his hand into his pocket.

Mariam watched him curiously as he pulled out a little black box.

“Oh…my…” said Mariam, intuitively, the minute that she laid her eyes on the box. “Are you asking me to…”

Max stared at Mariam, unsure about how to proceed with it. He stood quietly staring at her for a solid two minutes until Mariam said, “Uh…Max?”

Kneel, you moron. You can gawk at her later, thought Max as he mentally slapped himself, before going down on one knee.

“Mariam…I never thought that there’d come a day that I’d find myself asking you…or anyone, to marry me. I have never believed in fairytale endings or happily ever-afters. And I don’t believe that being with you is my fairytale ending, because nobody knows what the future holds. But you certainly are the beginning of my fairytale. Now I wish I had Rei’s eloquence to be able to come up with a romantic poem on the spot, but that’s not me. I’m all smiles and jokes and mustard on noodles and we have had always had an unconventional relationship. So, in the spirit of that…” said Max, opening the box, mid-sentence.

Okay, here goes nothing.

Much to Mariam’s surprise, Max pulled out a red, silken bandana from the box and tied it around her forehead.

“I could have got a ring…and I will after this, but I don’t do cliches. Now, I’m 14 years late, but here’s a long overdue replacement for the bandana you tied around my arm when I injured myself protecting you in that collapsing building. I’m tying this around your forehead as a promise to protect you for as long as I can, no matter how many buildings collapse on us and no matter what hurts me in the process. So…will you…marry me?” said Max.

Mariam gasped. She looked like someone had punched her in the gut.

“You know, Takao’s garden has just been hosed an hour ago. My jeans are getting soaked in the mud. Could you answer faster?” said Max, sheepishly.

“Well…yes, you idiot!” said Mariam, throwing her arms around Max and hugging him tenderly.

Kissing her softly on the cheek, Max pulled away and looked into her gorgeous green eyes. He had spent many a night looking into them, but this was the first time that he had seen a touch of vulnerability in them. If anything, her eyes looked even more beautiful now.

“Oh, that was so fucking cute, I’m going to faint!”

“Hell yeah, go Maxie!”

“Max, you dawg…”

Shocked, Max and Mariam looked to the left to see their friends peering at them from behind the dojo and giggling amongst themselves. Kai and Brooklyn did not seem to partake in their laughter, but smiled approvingly at him and Mariam.

“How long have you guys been there?” said Max, going red in the face.

“Long enough, buddy,” said Takao, bellowing with laughter.

“You promised you’d be out,” said Max, embarrassedly.

“And miss this? Never!” said Hiromi, slyly.

“Oh yeah, Kyouju even taped it,” said Rei, giving their bespectacled friend a nudge.

“It’s time for some celebration!” said Hiromi.

“Drinks in the garden?” said Takao.

“On it,” volunteered Brooklyn. Kai joined him to go into the house and fetch the celebratory champagne.

Max looked at his friends and then at Mariam, and smiled. He had finally found a sense of contentment that had eluded him for most of his life.

The beginning of a fairytale indeed.

This question is for Max: You seem to be very fond of Charlotte, but how has the process of becoming an older brother for you? like, did it caught you off guard? do you ever wish she had been a boy instead?

“The process, huh? Well...” He pauses for a moment, as if looking for the right words. He seems to look beyond the asker, seeking silent permission to speak his honest thoughts. No one else is around and it’s not like anyone else would know, but still... Part of him feels slightly scared and slightly ashamed for what he’s about to say. Usually he picks the prettiest words, but now might be the time for him to exhale some honesty. He begins to scratch the back of his head, desperately hoping that the softness of his own hair will ease his anxiety.

“I won’t lie, at first I felt a little...hurt. I mean... You know, mom’s not really home. She can’t be. Dad pretty much had to spend a lot of time raising me. I don’t think I really had much time to be with them together and I was still little, so-...” Words trail off. He knows what he wants to say, but the answer is so hard to address. “So, why did they think I’d be able to handle not having them together? I know I’m strong, but I just don’t think I needed to learn how strong I was at such a young age. I’d rather ease into learning that. I’d rather not learn it by having my mom basically..., you know... Leave me?”

He sounds uncertain about his word choice, but he’s often associated that diction with her decision. “So, when I heard they were having another kid, I guess I really didn’t get it. If you didn’t have time for me, why would you suddenly have time for her? Why did Charlotte have to be the one to bring you back home? Why couldn’t you just come home because you loved what you already had?” Upon spitting out his sadness, hands quickly fly to his lips. He’s surprised by easily he was able to say all of that, but all at once, the shame sets in. He’s not proud of himself and he doesn’t want his monologue to be manipulated.

“Please don’t misunderstand me... I love Charlotte. I think I was just scared for her at first. I thought she’d end up like me. It just wouldn’t be fair. But, you know...” Another pause, except this time, a smile breaks his previous sullen state. 

“She brought us all together. How can I not love her for that? I’m going to be the best brother to her. I made that commitment from the start. She made us a family again, she’s someone that relies on me, she gives my family a reason to be proud of me - that’s just something worth protecting.”

“Charlotte could’ve been anyone, anything. I’m happy to call her a sister. It doesn’t matter. All that does matter is the impact she’s made. I just really felt like that was something important to recognize.”

ever the traditionalists, the queen mary and the prince consort still chose the members of their household from noble families, believing that rank and status could somehow sharpen the mind. catherine’s household had been largely chosen for her by her mother’s people, the master of the household of the queen, however, there are few instances when she could sneak in a few of her own choices into the mix.

catherine’s right-hand-woman, charlotte was a childhood friend that she had trusted implicitly despite the difference between their ranks. the position of the private secretary to the heir apparent had traditionally gone to a senior member of the house stormont, but since the line had grown dormant since the days of queen mary’s time as crown princess, catherine was free to nominate her own candidate. wherever catherine was, charlotte also stood, she is the current head of the household and wields a certain responsibility that catherine would only bestow upon someone she trusted more than anything. the only reason why charlotte was not made lady-in-waiting was because of her low rank.

isla started off as someone assigned to catherine due to her parents’ close relationship to the queen and prince consort -- the earl and countess of kellie -- which made it all the more convenient that she was the same age and going to the same university as the crown princess. catherine hated the fact that her parents managed to infiltrate her university experience with a lowkey ‘minder’ in the form of the young girl, but those feelings soon dissipated when isla started to pass her the number of the cutest guys in class and invited her to more and more parties. isla was as a notorious party girl before she was married off to the 13th earl of newburgh, with her face plastered everywhere in the tabloids alongside celebrities and rockstars, she was usually instrumental in introducing the better part of ‘gq’s sexiest men alive’ list to catherine’s acquaintance.

legal counsel / lady-in-waiting : moira cary, 17th viscountess of falkland ( deborah ann woll )

moira wasn’t supposed to be viscountess and happily worked her way through oxford law school before the untimely death of her brother, the 16th viscount of falkland. however, because of her background and title, the court had appointed her to the dual position of legal counsel and lady-in-waiting. catherine appreciates moira’s responsible attitude and the fact that she was still well in touch with what they call the ‘real world’, outside of royal traditions and stuffy ceremonies. she was unfortunately forced to step away from her firm but retains her connections, however, moira appreciates the change in profession as it enables her to spend more time with her wife and two young children.

stylist / lady-in-waiting : clara kerr, 14th marchioness of lothian ( holliday grainger )

clara came to her title as the only daughter of the 13th marquess and marchioness, becoming the single most eligible titled bachelorette in scotland. she enjoyed the attention yet refused to choose a partner despite being in of ‘marriageable age’. in her own words to catherine; “i’ll hold on to the very last moment i could”. clara has a strong relationship with catherine since their childhood, being one of the few daughters of dukes and marquesses that was educated alongside the princesses as their playmates. it was only natural for clara to become a lady-in-waiting as soon as she became an adult, and she is currently the highest rank of catherine’s staff. having been featured numerous of times in ‘most fashionable’ lists all over the world, it seemed only natural that she used her talent in service of the crown.

treasurer : ian maitland, 9th lord of belhaven and stanton ( dane dehaan )

the maitlands had enjoyed many positions in royal households over generations, and ian was prepared all his life for the position of treasurer. he came to the position after the resignation of his predecessor, his uncle, fresh off of cambridge accounting. he had always been a handsome, full of respect, and soft spoken, and catherine had heard whispers that her parents would’ve favoured a match with him if he had a better title. she’s endlessly thankful, because no matter how handsome he was, she still found him to be a terrible bore.

equerry : lt col. george phillips ( mahershala ali )

catherine had never been much trouble for her security details, and that doesn’t look like it would change any time soon. she had been george learmonth’s first charge as he came into the employ of the royal household, a sort of entry-level ‘babysitting’ job when the royal family had been on the move. at first he had hated his placement, believing that he would be of better use in the navy. however, it had all faded away as the princess matured, for her felt a certain kinship and responsibility to his maturing charge, becoming overly protective as she ventured off to study overseas.

comms. secretary / spokesperson : lady helena graham of montrose ( amber stevens )

helena graham is the youngest daughter of the duchess of montrose, who had gone to school for public relations in oxford. her approach to the crown princess’ public image was to make the crown princess look as regal and intelligent as possible, someone who the public would entrust their well-being to, not just as a mouth-piece, but also a true leader. helena would seek various engagements in universities, both domestic and international, as well as conferences and seminars that would boost catherine’s intellectual image. however, she also insisted in various television talkshows of the informal nature to make her more relatable, if shows like graham norton was good enough for an american presidential candidate, it certainly was good enough for catherine stuart.

business manager : ronald wishart ( winston duke )

as the crown princess, catherine had to juggle a great deal of commitments outside of engagements of the crown. ronald was a shining graduate of harvard business school and came highly recommended by her acquaintances, who gave up his career in climbing up the company ladder of some forbes top 100 company to take care of the numerous charitable and business ventures that catherine was a part of. he became the main liaison for the many ceos that work for her, as well as the person who kept an eye on her numerous investments. ronald is charming, the way most business men are, and flourished in catherine’s household, as he rubbed elbows with dukes and duchesses that paid court to the royal family.

head physician : lady elsie sinclair of linlithglow ( sally hawkins )

it is required for all members of the royal family to have their own attending physician whenever they travel, or in the case of members that have already branched out to form their own families, to have a team of physicians on standby at all times. elsie sinclair was the only daughter of the marquess of linlithglow and sister to the future marquess, and was an accomplished trauma surgeon of her own right before being employed by the royal family. considering catherine’s general health and lack of immediate medical problems, she spends most of her free time in her private practice.

the second part, aoki’s notes about characters from the first season. he really doesn’t say all that much though. i skipped all the beasts that only had pictures of them (which was almost all of them), that’s why there are a few random beasts between the human characters in the text.

Anime 2001 [season 1]: Page 1

In summer 2000, there was a meeting for discussing a TV anime (starting from January 2001). The CoroCoro serialization was in the middle of the Japanese tournament. All four holy beasts had made an appearance at that point, but the planned world tournament arc was made into the main storyline of the anime.

Originally I planned that nobody but the main four had holy beasts, but because of the anime and the variety of real Beyblade toys increasing, it became so that rival bladers also had holy beasts.

I had very little time to create all the characters for the anime that would run for a year and had never done that before, so it was a real struggle. But looking back now, it was really stimulating and I consider it a valuable personal experience that I’m thankful for.

 “The Russian team”

In the original manga, and of course in the anime as well, the greatest rival needed to be very charismatic and therefore Yuriy was created.

“Yuriy Ivanov”

He’s the leader of “Borg”. The team has an army-like composition. His holy beast is a wolf.

For the CoroCoro serialization I drew him to display his strength as a cruel and cold character, but for RISING I also portrayed him with more human-like weaknesses and kindness that I didn’t get to draw earlier. By the way, for some reason his surname is spelled as “ivaanofu” everywhere except the original manga and I have no idea why it was changed. [he spells it “ivanoofu” himself in katakana. it really is pronounced ivaanofu in the anime too] The anime’s production method is very different from the manga, so perhaps it’s fine having several names.

December 22 2018 postscript: I later noticed that RISING volume 1 also misspells it as “ivaanofu”. The correct spelling is “ivanoofu”. [damn he’s really committed to how it should be spelled]

“Wolborg”

I pictured a land of extreme cold and gave it wings and ornaments of ice.

“Boris”

The subleader. He admires Yuriy. His holy beast is a falcon. I was thinking of the feathers of a bird while designing his hair and the collar of his clothes.

“Ivan”

A sarcastic sniper. He’s often picking fights, but he’s loyal to Yuriy. His holy beast is a snake.

“Sergei”

A soldier-like character with great respect for rules. He’s a muscular guy with a soft heart. His holy beast is a whale.

“Volkov”

He’s the founder of Borg, the private military school. He uses his connections from military times to send out illegal soldiers. Beyblade is part of his program of training young boys into soldiers.

When I look back now, it’s like the team composition of Borg (the way the characters are isolated) became the model for the rest of the teams as well.

 “The Chinese team”

The team of the Chinese fang clan (named Byakko clan in the anime) from Rei’s home town. The holy beasts and characters both were modeled after wild animals. In the village of the fang clan, sage Tao teaches scholarship, martial arts and bey battling to children from the near-by cities and communities who have been separated from their parents.

“Rai”

Rei’s childhood friend and eternal rival. The team leader. He’s like a reliable older brother. His holy beast is a black lion, so I also designed him with the image of a lion in mind. His name is the “rai” of “raion” [lion in katakana in Japanese].

“Mao”

Rai’s younger sister. A tomboy. Her name comes from the Chinese word for cat. Her holy beast is a lynx.

“Kiki”

A cheerful rascal. His holy beast is a monkey. His name comes from the sound that monkeys make.

“Galman”

I referenced a Chinese opera version of Sun Wukong for the ornaments.

“Gaou”

A gentle muscleman. His name comes from a bear’s roar. His holy beast is a bear.

”The American Team”

The theme of the team is sports. I chose animals that live in North America as their holy beasts.

“Michael”

The team leader. He’s a baseball player. He’s a sportsman-like nice guy. I had several ideas for very elaborate gimmicks that he could shoot his beyblade with. The above sketch is an old one, so I ended up using a different one in the manga. His holy beast is the national bird of the US, the bald eagle.

“Eddy”

A basketball player. His holy beast is a scorpion.

“Steve”

An American football player. His holy beast is a bull.

“Bison”

Instead of an American bison, I used a bullfighting bull as the model.

“Emily”

Her position in the American team is similar to that of Kyouju’s. Her sport is tennis. Her holy beast is an alligator.

“Judy”

She’s American. She married the Japanese Mizuhara Tarou and had her eldest son Max with him. [that sounds like max has brothers but it prob just means ‘first child’ here] She was invited to a project team in NASA after the evaluation of a thesis she wrote while enrolled in MIT. [massachusetts institute of technology…. damn] She left her husband and Max in Japan and took up the new post away from home. She was inaugurated as the coach of a blader team formatted on a science camp organized by NASA. The rest is the same as the setting back then. She’s now living in Japan with her family after the birth of her eldest daughter Charlotte. [IS THERE GOING TO BE MORE???]

 “The European team”

A selection team representing several European countries. They were named after F1 racing drivers who were active at the time. (Germany) Ralf Schumacher, (UK) Johnny Herbert, (France) Olivier Panis, (Italy) Giancarlo Fisichella. *Their outwards appearances, personalities etc. are not based on them, only their names. Their surnames were influenced by well-known movie actors and directors from each country. I wanted each character to represent the special characteristics of his country. Their holy beasts are creatures from European folklore.

“Ralf Jürgens”

A German. He’s a stubborn person who honors tradition. I designed his outfit after bike wear. His holy beast is a griffon.

“Johnny McGregor”

An Englishman. He’s very strong-willed and has confidence in himself. I had rock style fashion in mind when making him. His holy beast is a salamander.

“Olivier Pohringer” [spelling of his surname is not up for debate FYI]

A Frenchman. He loves trendy things. I gave him a unique fashion sense. His holy beast is a unicorn.

“Giancarlo Tornatore”

A cheerful Italian. His holy beast is an amphisbaena.

Is that MIDORI MCCANN? Wow, they do look a lot like KIKO MIZUHARA. I hear SHE is a SEVENTEEN  year old JUNIOR who originally attended LUXOR  Academy. Word is they are a REGULAR student. You should watch out because they can be CYNICAL and OVERLY BLUNT, but on the bright side they can also be WITTY and LOYAL. Ultimately, you’ll get to see it all for yourself. [YUNI, 20, GMT, SHE/HER]

PERSONALITY 

 Midori can and will be an absolute bitch. She has a tendency to speak her mind regardless of how that makes the other person feel, and doesn’t take kindly to being told she should reign it in a bit - in her opinion, everyone should be able to just handle the truth. She’s not the type of person who automatically connects with people, usually starting out as rude and then over time softening for a small number of people that she cares about; this only really happens with people she respects, though. Although she’s relatively intelligent, Midori honestly doesn’t study much and can act out in class - she just sees the whole thing as so pointless half the time and would rather be learning what she considers to be real world skills. 

BIOGRAPHY

Midori McCann was born in Seattle to a Japanese mother and American father. Her father was a successful criminal defence lawyer and her mother a neurosurgeon, so she grew up relatively wealthy and seemingly with an idyllic childhood - one which ended at the age of eleven, however, when her father was shot dead in a robbery gone wrong. Midori has never spoken about her father’s death; it hit her hard and she finds it hard to voice her feelings on the incident to this day.  Perhaps as a result of that incident, her mother became very protective, sheltering Midori and trying to essentially protect her from the world - but despite her best efforts, she just didn’t have the kind of daughter who was happy to stay inside all day. After Midori was expelled from her private Catholic girls school for underage drinking, her mother decided that perhaps it would be for the best that she be sent to a boarding school, for a fresh start.

Her given name is actually Charlotte, with Midori being a middle name; she began using it as her first name around the age of eleven since her mother never uses her English name anyway. Beyblade Rising Manga - Chapter 3 (Spoilers)

Alright, seeing as the fandom is dead and silent about this, I’ll review this part. 

In the previous part, we saw a lot of new developments. Charlotte Mizuhara, Max’s new baby sister was one, for starters. Kai in a suit working his ass off for his grandfather’s company was another. This chapter is more Max-centric and gives us some insight into his character.  Keep in mind that there are spoilers up ahead. So, read ahead at your own risk.

The new part, ie, Part 3 is Max centric. The part starts off with an unusually overconfident Max battling Takao and boasting about how Takao can’t lay a finger on his iron clad defence. Takao, as staunchly Takao as he can be, of course, defeats him because according to the Chief, Max lost despite his defence because of a lack of endurance. Draciel simply ran out of spins.

Max, of course, takes the defeat in his stride, as sportingly as always. He puts on a smile, which of course annoys the hell out of Mao (Mariah). Also, rejoice Rei/Mao shippers. Mao has now become a regular who hangs around with our boy gang.

Now, this part of the manga very subtly deals with one issue which our fandom and I, in particular, have touched upon extensively in several headcanons. It gives us an insight into Max’s character. Max, as we can see, often to the annoyance of others, puts up a smile and keeps a calm face in front of others even when things are not favourable for him. He is dismissed by most of the fandom as a happy-go-lucky guy, but let me tell you about guys like Max. The perpetually happy, smiling ones. I draw from real life when I say that I have known people like him who are extremely depressed deep down and who bottle up their feelings rather than show it to others. And here, in this part, that side of Max is shown. The Max who bottles up his feelings and probably spends a lot of time depressed behind the scenes. 

Of course here the matter wasn’t anything major, but seeing as this is how he dealt with it...

....it’s probably not too far fetched to see him as the kind of person who curls up on a sofa back at home and lets it out while pretending to the whole world that nothing matters. [Credits of photo: Beyblade Rising - Aoki Takao]

In the very next frame, Judy explicitly states to Taro as well that Max chose to hide his frustration and smile in front of others as he always does - a trait that he has acquired from his parent.

However, it’s heartwarming to see how much Max and Charlotte are already so attached to each other! His baby sister sees him lying on the couch all depressed and underconfident, she just comes upto him and protests, almost as if to say - no, you can’t be sad! Max too is cheered up instantly by his adorable sister. Who wouldn’t be?

Now, thereafter, the Chief runs into Max and offers to perfect Max’s blade and he does - and how! Max now has a blade with unlimited endurance. Naturally, Takao’s blade doesn’t stand a chance against it. Takao cries foul as he refuses to lose because Max as a mechanical advantage. Max later too concedes that this is not how he wanted to win - he wants them both to start off on an equal mechanical footing.

BUT, Max’s Draciel goes rogue. Max cannot control it and the Chief cannot stop it either. It doesn’t stop spinning and starts emitting some super ominous black fumes. Rei and Takao launch their blades in an attempt to neutralize it. Rei’s Driger gets sucked in but eventually, with a little help from Takao he gets Max’s rogue beyblade to stop.

It comes at a cost, though. There is a change in Driger. Rei’s blade turns darker in colour and changes into Darkness Driger. Rei wishes to carry it like a medallion, while the others go gaga over it.

I don’t know about how Darkness Driger is going to work out in the upcoming parts, but let’s see. Could it be negative? Maybe. Either way, I’m glad that even if it was in a couple of frames Aoki touched upon Max’s character and made a long held belief of mine canon. Thank you so much. I hope that there’ll be more character development there.

¿Podría volver a pedir ayuda? De la respuesta a la que me mandasteis me gustó Tina Tamashiro, pero es muy pequeña, y de las demás creo que la que más encaja es Kiko Mizuhara, pero no termina de convencer. Si fuera muy complicado podría cambiar la historia y que, en lugar de caucásica, fuera mitad de otra etnia. Gracias de nuevo y perdón por molestar.
