Symbolism of Hermes
🪽🩴🪽🩴🪽🩴🪽🩴🪽🩴🪽🩴🪽🩴🪽🩴
The god of messangery, communication, travel, the patron of thieves and companion of Apollon, messenger of Zeus, Apollo is one of the youngest of the olympians, a tricky, cunning, but charming and friendly god who is friendly to man and god alike. Let’s go over some of his sacred symbolism:
🌈 colors:
• Blue and White: the colors of the sky, communication, and messengery, are blue and white, as a result, these colors are the ones most often associated with Hermes. The shade doesn’t matter too much, but light blue is generally preferred to darker blues.
🌸 plants and flowers:
• Crocus: now this one is kind of confusing because the god associated with it differs on the author, but it’s said that either Apollo or Hermes accidentally killed their companion crocus in a game of discus, and that when they mourned them, their tears sprouted crocuses from the ground around their body.
🦌 Animals:
• Tortoise/turtle: it is said that one of the very first shenanigans Hermes got up to after his birth and escape of his cradle, was to steal and fashion a lyre out of tortoiseshell! (RIP to the tortoise but ain’t that just the way). This was the first lyre, and the first of many inventions the god would be credited with!
• Hawk: (I’m trying VERY hard not to make an ironic hawk-tuah joke but I’m afraid he would abandon me if I did, rightfully so) hawks are one of the sacred animals associated with hermes, and it is said that when he would deliver messages from the gods, he would do so in the form of a hawk!
• Ram: another sacred animal to Hermes was the ram, as he was said to ride on the back of a ram to deliver messages to and from the gods on Olympus!
💎 crystals and gemstones:
• Blue Topaz: blue topaz is often seen as a stone that helps one to overcome social anxiety and to speak and converse agaisnt their anxieties, especially in public, or during important discourse. Making it a great stone to represent Hermes.
• Celestite: the stone of messengery, Hermes’s main forte, Celestite is also a stone of spiritual and practical communication, it is also widely available and more affordable than topaz for those who may want to devote or wear a crystal for Hermes!
• Blue lace agate: a beautiful blue member of the agate group, and a stone known for its wavy and transcendent veins, it is a stone of clerical communication, fortune, and good messages both spiritual and physical! One of my favorites to dedicate to Hermes.
🪐 Planets:
• The Romans were known to have identified Hermes with Mercury, a planet of fire and mahatma closest to the sun, which makes since as Apollo, the god of the sun, in Greek mythology was one of Hermes closest Allies. He was also associated with Charon, and helped reaped souls for the underworld, Mercury is a notoriously hellish planet. It also makes the most orbits around the sun than any other planet in a year, harking to Hermes association to travel.
🌟 Astrology:
• Gemini
Probably the most obvious correspondence here, Hermes is a very social, talkative, active god who thrives on his relationships to the gods and the people he acts as a vessel for, all qualities shared with Gemini.
🪽Other iconography:
• Lyre
The lyre was the very first invention of Hermes, and it was he who first introduced it to Apollo, having crafted it out of the guts of the livestock of apollos he’d slaughtered. Apollo was so stricken with joy and appreciation for his music and his invention, that he forgave Hermes for his trespasses, and would go on to teach him his own divine knowledge.
• Traveling hat
Hermes iconic traveling hat that he would wear as he heralded his messages to the gods and mortals alike is another common asset associated with his iconography.
• Sandals
His infamous winged sandals are perhaps the most unique and renowned symbols of Hermes, having granted him the ability to fly in order to deliver his heralds and messages to and from Olympus.

WEUS: an introduction
Weus is a little fantasy universe I have made in my spare time, only so that I can draw weird stuff and kind of string them together. The name comes from the initial idea of it being a collaborative project, like a workshop, hence the WE and US. But it is also to hark back to the French illustrator Mœbius, who is of great inspiration.
It has gone through various iterations throughout the years, but I finally think I’m at a point where it is in a place I like it to be. Now with that out of the way, the juicy parts . . .
Cosmology
It all takes place on an earth like planetoid called Weus, named so after a nature god of sorts. According to church doctrine, it stands at the center of the universe, above a dark moon hundreds of times its size: Charon.
In the church's view the northern lights bring the souls from the realm of the gods, Synnefo, into the material plane. The southern lights work in opposition, by taking the souls away down to Charon. The Chief of the gods, Aldebaran and her lover, Elnath order their seven children to scoop up these souls from Charon and take them up to Synnefo for "redistribution". Whilst they watch over the world as the moons.
The drops of souls lost on the way back up become meteorites.
An extremely simplistic overview of the cosmology (according to the church)
Other cultures hold different views of the cosmos and the cycle of rebirth. Who is correct is difficult to ascertain as no one has really been to the southern hemisphere and looked for Charon.
The Rinr talk of the "Wolf parade of the Hoh", who swoop up those who are destined for death. It is said that this procession can be seen during great periods of grief, and old loved ones can be spotted within it.
The sahalyari don’t experience death as we do, as they wake up again in their dark blood-filled birthing pools 10, 15 or maybe 500 years after they originally perished. No talk of an afterlife, just a little trip to the Void...
Geography
a hightmap of the Continent
Now, for the bread and butter. The main character of Weus: The Continent, the landmass that all its characters and stories take place. A diverse land of harpy filled mountains, forests of blood, shores of poison and oceans of flayed skin.
To its west it rests in the embrace of the sea of Panthalassa, an endless ocean only crossed by the elves and stone men of yore. To the north, past wall like mountains of Skarvenné; the endless steppes of white are found, home to the banshees and other scary stuff.
To its east the endless steppes connect the Continent to the rest of the world, to the old homes of man: "Kengir" and "Lodwar". Whilst down by the poisoned forests of the Plague Lands its connected to a place known as "Avesta".
The Continent itself is split into two halves by the Spine of the World, a huge mountain chain. On the Western side you get the Hinterlands, huge, forested areas with cold winters and wet summers. The Rinr, a wolf life people live here. South of the Hinterland you get the Heretical Headlands, named after the grand heretical empire of the Denuvi sea. The Orbial Covenant. Followers of the Great Serpent Queen, said to be hundreds if not thousands of meters long. Before the Denuvi Sea became a desert, it was an archipelago with a prominent kingdom of alchemists. But it’s said that one of the alchemists sacrificed its people, flaying them and turning them into snakes. The flayed skin now serves as the sand that makes up this desert.
The Toryngians also make their home here. A seafaring people, one will either find them raiding or trading.
To the east of the Heretical Headlands, the Araatian plateau and Murummi Highlands are located. Home to marshal kingdoms who all stand as the vanguard against the Covenant. These provinces used to be marshes for the Ain Empire of old and their ruins still dot the landscape. It is said the Elves and the men of the rocks fought here thousands of years ago, and the even older Eidolons had their capital here. South of the Araatian Plateau you will find the Riverlands, the home of the mages. A huge forest of enormous flowers and endless rivers fill this landscape. A multitude of independent mage cities keep in isolation here as the land is said to be quite potent with magical energies.
The islands south of the Riverlands, Hoorn and Oiito are home to the Sahalyari and Kohtak respectfully. The Sahalyari claims to be descendent from the elves of yore. They live around the Crimson Weald, and oversee holding it at bay, as the Void is quite potent within. The isles of Oiito are home to an isolationist empire, who does nothing but to infight.
A vesperi, a Sahalyari and a Kohtak
Further east one arrives at the Heartlands, home to a kingdom upon kingdoms, biggest being the Albawaabian: The Wall Kings of Old Kengir. This area is known to be the fertile heart of the continent, and it harbor the most people. The horse like Yppadamus live in
its periphery, by their grand Mother Trees: the Lyn Zurnapa.
A yppadamius, with their trusted Zurnapa
There are many more smaller kingdoms and cultures in the Heartlands, but I can elaborate on them some other time. South of the Heartland, the land of the forges, the spires of Automa rise from the deep jungle. A catlike people live here and the ancient forges of the Ain are said to still plop out new mechanical ones.
I think this serves as a good introduction to Weus, feel free to ask any questions if you have any and I will further elaborate on kingdoms or areas whenever I have the time! Theres also the Void and some creatures who I haven’t touched on yet, so look forward to that! :) I will use the tag WeusLore for such post!

Landscape with a Tomb
Artist: Théodore Géricault (French, 1791-1824)
Date: c. 1818
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Petit Palais, Paris, France
Description
Landscape with a tomb, whose genesis and intended destination remain a mystery, was undoubtedly painted with two other large landscapes in 1818 when Géricault returned to France. The vast vista punctuated with architectural elements conforms with the rules of landscape painting inherited from Poussin. However, it gives off an air of anxiety and strangeness signifying a new sensitivity that heralded Romanticism.
The mountains visible in the distance conjure up the barrier of the Alps which travelers must cross to reach Italy. The cloudy sky adds a dramatic touch to the craggy site dominated by ruined architecture and the building perched on a rocky spur harks back to the ancient circular tomb of Cecilia Metella. The small boat towards which the frightened couple are moving recalls Charon’s boat, which received the souls of the dead in mythology and carried them over the river Acheron. At the centre of the composition are stocks on which human limbs are displayed, referring with morbid realism to the torture inflicted on bandits who demanded ransom money on the roads of southern Italy.

Hello!! We can’t stop making blogs. This is our blog for our fictives and alters sourced from Fallout 3, The Capital Wasteland. Our main blog is @8bitgarden-sys
In the words of a headmate:
A fictive is an alter who formed from a fictional source. We are our own people and have differences from our source.
We are all the age of the body (currently 23, born in June 2001)
Minors do not interact at all please.
Here’s a rundown of the alters running this blog:
Blitz — he/they
Blitz is an anxiety holder and caregiver. They don’t front super often but is usually taking care of their kid brother, Amity. Amity is sourced from Little Lamplight and Blitz is as well but is more connected to Big Town.
Bottlecap — they/she
She’s a rage holder and a confidence holder and mostly does wandering around and quests in the innerworld Wasteland.
Charon — he/they/it
Charon is a fictive from Gob and Charon and his name is pronounced kair-on instead of the cannonical pronunciation. He holds trauma and goes between being an emotional suppressant and a depression holder.
Dex — he/they
Dex is an emotional suppressant and another wanderer, as well as an ex-raider. They’re a fragment and don’t front much.
Greta — she/they
Fragment, we don’t know much about her at all. Fictive from the game.
Indigo — he/him
Indigo is a huge rage & trauma holder and is usually playing Fallout 3 to get out his anger. He’s a combat enjoyer and wears a gas mask in the headspace. I don’t know why lol.
Radroach — he/him
Then there’s me, Radroach! I’m sourced from Little Lamplight but ended up not heading to Big Town. In the innerworld I live in a little cottage similar to Agatha’s cabin.
Rat — he/she/it
Update: hello, new split. Gross.
Harkness — he/it
Forgot about this blog. Hello. I’m Harkness. From the game or whatever. Caregiver, protector, & anxiety holder. Self determination is not a malfunction.
Bittercup — she
Fictive from the game! I’m happy to be annoying and don’t care what you think :) but do let me know if i accidentally hurt your feelings! 🍰🧁💖
Last things:
Feel free to ask questions, just don’t be invasive or insensitive! Excited to be here!

2000 Followers Celebration!!!
& Fallout Alphabet Poll End Results!
Hey all, so the secret is out! (Kinda) But all these past polls have been the prelude to my 2K Followers Celebration BONANZA. (That's not the official title, I just wanted to use the word BONANZA).
Anyway, a HUGE, MASSIVE thank you to every single one of you folks who are a part of this little community and who've supported me and my fanfiction writing journey for the past few years (which is crazy that it's been that long, omg.) But I love and appreciate you all SO MUCH and am absolutely baffled that I've made it to this. I thought 100 was crazy, then I thought 1K was crazy and then it just kept on going! Ahh, I'm just so so so glad that there's a thriving Fallout community out here of amazing writers, artists, and fans that are still so involved 😊
I don't know what I would do without this space, so thank you all for being a part of it <3
ANYWAY (x2) Here are the final results to all 22 polls that I posted, with more event details just below!
So I've posted the 1st place winners, 2nd place, and then a 3rd "runner up" position that will only be filled by non-companion npcs, just to give them a chance to shine, and me a chance to write for some folks I'm not as used to. For the purposes of the 2k event, I will only be using the 1st place winners for the 'prompts' (which I'll explain in another post), and then a few of the 2nd placers and (almost) all of the runner ups will be used in ANOTHER upcoming event that I'm going to start prepping for (because I'm an insane person).

more Del posting
Del tries to avoid thinking about 101 since they're supposed to also literally avoid it until things blow over or might as well forever <- semi-rightfully angsty 19 year old brain but doesn't really mean it Del only misses Amata more than anything down there anyway and that's another sore spot and trying to be mature about it isn't easy when you're just a teenager out more or less on your own
being alone ain't so bad because when you got nobody you got nobody bossing you around or holding you in one place and Del ain't even really alone anyway Del's got new friends and new homes - plural
like literally Del has a home in Megaton with Wadsworth and there's always Gob, Moira, another father figure in Simms even if he ain't that old like really but still... and others around town
Del's always got Fawkes and Charon and Dogmeat
even Butch 🙄
and there's always the underground comfort of Little Lamplight when bringing down supplies as an excuse to visit the kids and annoy the mayor like an asshole little brother
and Del's got friends in Underworld, the memorial, Big Town, Arefu, that dead old fart Tenpenny's tower, so many other places
it really is not so lonely and there's so many places to wander and so much to do
running around with Dogmeat dragging Charon everywhere exploring the museums and visiting memorials while Fawkes studies
visiting the treeminders and bullshitting with Harold and playing with little Yew
shopping around in Rivet City checking in on Bryan or bothering Harkness and Dr Li or rummaging around in the broken bow to bother oldass Horace too
hunting slavers is always a good fun time sport
and there's so many teddy bears and gnomes to collect and outfits and weapons yay
lotta caves and tunnels to explore
keeping busy. meeting new people. wandering.

So you see, the problem with liking background/minor characters is that the fanfic pool is so shallow it’s basically a puddle.
The smut pool even more so. That just ends up being a single drop of water

Embodiment of Love
@trashkingnyx did this and it seemed like fun so I’m joining in! tagging @radioactive-synth , @adventuresofmeghatron, @pchberrytea, and @theartofblossoming if you want a go!
💕 RULES: Take this quiz for your OC/ship.
Completing for Billie/Butch and Charon/Harkness!
Billie/Butch: Love as being known
‘[ love is knowing all of someone and loving them anyway ] when tim kreider said “if we want the rewards of being loved then we have to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known” and when joe wright said “the idea that these two people know each other, knew each other when they first saw each other. that they recognised each other from their future” and when micah nemerever said “it was a relief and a horror to be known so perfectly.” ‘
This is so perfect for Billie/Butch because they both spend a lot of their early life presenting a kind of front to other people to hide behind and then getting under each other’s skin and seeing the parts of each other that other people don’t get to see...like there’s a kind of understanding there before they get together or even before they’re really friends that really pulls the two of them together (pride and prejudice is actually not a bad fit for these two at all...uquiz op you did me a solid)
Charon/Harkness: Love as tenderness
‘[ love as gentleness after a lifetime of cruelty ] when ocean vuong said “sometimes being offered tenderness feels like the very proof that you’ve been ruined” and when pablo neruda said “like a jar you housed the infinite tenderness and the infinite oblivion shattered you like a jar” and when anais mitchell wrote “all i’ve ever known is how to hold my own, and now I wanna hold you, too” ‘
ahhhh perfect choice for the two characters who have both suffered immensely at the hands of their oppressors and finding freedom and a sense of self in their own kind of way, and finding comfort and love with each other and experiencing softness for once in their lives 🥺
#these are both perfect for these couples acvjhebushjk#oc: billie morgan/hundred dollar bills (lone wanderer)#billie/butch#charon/harkness#butch deloria#charon fo3#harkness fo3#ask meme#fallout

Fallout Opinion Survey- Results!
Thank you so much to all those who took part! We had 421 usable responses in total :D
One quick note- the nature of the data this time around means that most of the auto-generated charts are usable as they are, which does mean this post will be very image-heavy. I’d be very appreciative if someone who knows how to write image descriptions for charts could add them on!
Without further ado, let’s get into the results...
The Basics:
Favourite DLC:
Dead Money- 115 (...nice) Old World Blues- 94 Far Harbor- 76 Lonesome Road- 53 Nuka World- 27 Point Lookout- 17 Honest Hearts- 11 The Pitt- 9 Mothership Zeta- 7 Automatron- 3 Operation Anchorage- 3 Broken Steel- 2 Vault-Tec Workshop- 1

-
The Lore:
(other titles specifically mentioned in the final question: Metro and Doom)
Characters headcanoned as synths: The Sole Survivor (by far the most common theory), Sturges, Deacon, Preston Garvey, the Lone Wanderer in Broken Steel, James/Dad, Dogmeat, Three Dog, Parker Quinn, Charon, Courier Six, Tinker Tom, Zeke, Arthur Maxson, Father/older Shaun, Piper, Travis Miles, Mysterious Stranger, Caesar ('cause funny'), Joshua Graham, most Children of Atom, Desdemona, Myrna, Marcy Long, Mr Burke, Vault 76 Overseer, Trashcan Carla, Cricket, many BoS and Enclave members, Reaver Movement members, Redeye, Moira Brown, Dr Zimmer, Ranger Ghost, most birds, Arcade Gannon, Elijah, Lizzie Wyatt, Kellogg, Mama Murphy, Nat Wright, and Sierra Petrovita
(please note I'm not all that familiar with Fallout 4 lore, if any of the FO4 peeps here are canon synths then I didn't know about it lol)
Fan theories/headcanons from the final question that cropped up repeatedly (in approximate order of popularity):
Vault-Tec started the Great War
Alien involvement with the pre-war US government and/or the Great War
Horses are still around
Talking Deathclaws are still around
Occult/eldritch influence (e.g. the Dunwich building) is widespread
Charon is a survivor of Vault 92
Deacon is a founder of the Railroad and his 'real' backstory was another lie
Veronica and Christine reunite
Sarah Lyons is alive
Gen 3 synths and ghouls still need to eat, drink, sleep and so on
Ghouls only turn feral in specific circumstances (suggestions include prolonged isolation and relying too heavily on radiation instead of food as a source of energy) and it is not inevitable
International travel and immigration continues
Danse and Harkness were sent to the Capital Wasteland by the Railroad together
X person is actually multiple people- suggested for Deacon, Legate Lanius and Vulpes Inculta
The US is the either the only place that was nuked or the only place that hasn't rebuilt and recovered, and the rest of the world is just ignoring them and carrying on as normal
Cass is the Chosen One's daughter
Mama Murphy is the Chosen One
No-Bark Noonan is the Chosen One (lots of Chosen One theories popping up lol)
All subsequent Dogmeats in the series are named after the legend of the original Dogmeat
Father is not really Shaun
MacCready is lying about Duncan being ill (or one person even suggested Duncan existing)
Yes Man overthrows the Courier after being upgraded
The real Lone Wanderer died at the end of the vanilla game even if Broken Steel is installed, and the Broken Steel LW is a synth
Deacon once worked for the Institute
Deacon deliberately leads people to theorise that he is the Lone Wanderer to throw them off
Deacon is or was once a ghoul (also plenty of Deacon theories)
The Mysterious Stranger is a time traveller who protects the various PCs to maintain the timeline
Appalachia was turned into a barren wasteland by the nuclear trigger-happiness of the Vault 76 Dwellers (possibly interesting aside: my brother, who buys into this one, has gone as far as to theorise that the original Great War used very low-yield weapons and wasn't that severe on the environmental level (as far as literal nuclear war goes, that is), and it was the Vault 76ers nuking the hell out of Appalachia that triggered a continent-wide nuclear winter and sent the ecology of the wasteland into the state it's in in all subsequent games)
Glory is not a synth
The (in-game) reason for lore clashes and retcons is that the plot of each game is a retelling of the story as it's passed around in the wasteland, so some details have been embellished or mixed up
I’ll be coming back to the theories from the final question at some point, but aside from that, that's a wrap! There isn't really much potential for me to play around with the data here like with the OC surveys, so this was more just me presenting the data as it came in without commentary. Still, I hope this is somehow interesting/insightful!
#fallout#survey#this was a bit all over the place lol#but as I said there's not much actual analysis I can do with this data

Landscape with a Tomb
Artist: Théodore Géricault (French, 1791-1824)
Date: c. 1818
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: Petite Palais - Fine Art Museum of Paris, France
Description
The young Géricault was critical of the routine of the Rome School and kept his distance from the French artistic community. He returned to Paris in the autumn of 1817 and began work on his monumental painting, The Raft of the Medusa (1819, Paris, Louvre Museum).
Landscape with a tomb , whose genesis and intended destination remain a mystery, was undoubtedly painted with two other large landscapes in 1818 when Géricault returned to France.
The small boat towards which the frightened couple are moving recalls Charon's boat, which received the souls of the dead in mythology and carried them over the river Acheron. At the center of the composition are stocks on which human limbs are displayed, referring with morbid realism to the torture inflicted on bandits who demand ransom money on the roads of southern Italy.
Tackling a landscape on this one occasion, Géricault was already demonstrating the profound originality of his art, which was much admired by the Romantic generation.

1, 28, 37, and 50 for the fic asks 😊
1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
We All Have Our Excuses for a short one and as an introduction to the fact that I am a bastard who loves drama and hurting characters and readers. Or Watch the Tide Come In as an introduction to the fact that when I do an AU, it will be a weird premise, the worldbuilding will be good, and I will try and translate as much of canon to the new setting and versions of characters as I can.
28. Does anyone read your fics before you post them? If so, who?
Just me. I don't have a beta and I don't like people seeing my stuff unfinished for the most part. I have tried to get irl friends to read my works (if they are also in the fandom I'm writing for) to varying levels of success. I'm the only person I personally know who's read any of my stuff after my one Good Omens fic.
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
Exsanguination. I love this fic. I love how it turned out. I love the mood. I love the pacing. Its the only thing I've written that I've re-read for my own entertainment. It came out to be everything I wanted it to be. Honorable mention is I Forgot to Remember, another 2nd POV fic in the IZ fandom that I personally think turned out pretty good.
50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about! So I'm going to answer 41: Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
Any of the fics by RustyPaperClip about Butch/Harkness, particularly Trouble and To Tincan, from Butchman. It isn't so much 'I want to write like that' and more of 'I want to make people feel how these fics made me feel'. I've referenced them a lot, specifically in Tide with the notes Hermes and Charon leave for each other and in the fallout au, obviously. I love these fics and they genuinely were inspiring for what emotions I want to get out of people as they read.
Honorary mention are two fics from the Pacific Rim fandom that were written in 2nd POV that blew my third eye wide open on how that point of view can be used. I can't find them right now, but they were newmann fics and were written before the rise of selfship and self-insert fics and Jesus-fucking-Christ. So fucking good and it showed me what you can do with 2nd POV when following an actual character with thoughts and motivations and I wanted to be able to do that.
#jacq answers#i feel like i recced those newmann fics somewhere like 8 years ago#i read them dozens of times back in the day#i think about rustypaperclip a lot#i hope they're doing okay#cause what they wrote means a lot to me and they havent been around since 2013#i wonder if they ever went over to ao3#i know they did not bring their fics with them#i hope they didnt stop writing
