something that i feel like goes suprisingly underacknowledged in the twewy fandom im regards to the final game between neku and joshua is that, in a sense, neku has to choose between himself, and between joshua. he had to choose between their worlds and existences — not just in regards to what happens to shibuya.

the loser *should* have been erased — the only reason neku wasn't was because joshua changed his mind. this wasn't just a battle about who gets the right to do what they want with shibuya, it was a battle for who gets the right to *exist*.

if i'm being honest? in that moment, i highly doubt that neku was thinking of shibuya — how could you, when you have a gun pointed at you by your friend who you had related to more than anyone else, you're thinking about the fact that you've been betrayed and you're in a life or death situation and fuck am i really supposed to kill him???? i can't do that. how am i supposed to do that. neku mourned joshua, neku grew from it, neku blamed himself for it (survivor's guilt × 2. new achievement unlocked!) only to now figure out that he was alive.

that's the beautiful thing about neku's character development, however. the neku of w1 would have killed joshua. hell, even the neku of w2 probably would have killed him — and joshua knows this.

the neku at the beginning of the game would have NEVER chosen joshua over himself, he would have never given up his world — his very existence — for someone else — much less someone who annoyed him as much as joshua did. and joshua actively tried to push him further into this sort of mindset during week 2 — encouraging his self actualization loop, because he didn't think that neku (or himself, really), was capable of change. joshua wasn't in shibuya during week 3 to see how beat changed neku.

joshua wouldn't have been able to guess that neku wouldn't have taken the shot.

that's the beauty of the writing and of the ending. the player and joshua expect neku to take the shot. we saw what he did to shiki week 1. but he can't. neku sakuraba went from "fuck the rest, you keep your values, and i'll keep mine, i don't need other people", to willingly letting someone kill him because he valued them too much to kill them.

yes, in the larger sceme of things it's about the fate of shibuya (which is a whole other topic when you consider how shibuya is essentially a reflection of joshua but i digress), but on a more personal level, it's about what neku values more in that moment. does he value his friendship with joshua more than he values his own life.

neku by all means should have chosen himself over joshua, but he didn't.

i think that's why it touched joshua so much.

“Slow breaths, Joshua,” Leah gently reminded as careful fingers combed through damp, ashen curls. Though she heard steady, rumbling breaths, Joshua's trembling persisted. She bit back a sigh as she reached for the haircutting scissors Simmons donated to the cause – said cause being a haircut Joshua, to the entire apartment's surprise, requested.

“Don't build it up like that,” Joshua grumbled. “Just get it over with.”

“You wanted three inches off, right?”

“Sure. Enough to keep from chewing on my own damn hair every time the wind blows.”

“Just checking.” For all the bitterness in Joshua's words, the ensuing pause in his shaking hardly escaped Leah's notice. “Figured you would've wanted more, since you never let your hair get this long before… you know, before.”

Black, clawed fingertips dug into the rough fabric of Joshua's hoodie following the first snip. At the same time, he remained blessedly still.

“…Maddie said I look good with it long.”

- has to assert his male alpha dominance from the get-go

- thinks he’s super legit, a big ego boost to his already growing superiority complex.

- firm believer that og characters are better than the newer ones, and thinks they have special powers because they’re original. (he learns the hard way that they in fact, do not have special powers)

jeonghan, walugi

- picks the loudest, most outta pocket character just to be an asshole

- despite his recent thoughts on ‘wanting to be a better person’, and feeling ‘tired of his self-claimed villain role’ he will never play an honest, fair game all the way through.

- thinks it’s funny when he blows up the other members because walugi always does some kind of daredevil handstand on his vehicle whenever he passes someone.

joshua, koopa troopa

- suits his personality so well

- drives safely like he’s on the real road, and pulls over to the side when one of the members cars breaks down or gets hit with a turtle shell.

- koopa troopa was also a part-time referee in the older game versions, which coincidentally makes total sense considering how sweet and caring shua is to help anyone that needs it.

Fall was here and had brought all its favorite colors. The smell of Pumpkin Spice Lattes was everywhere and people commenced their preparations for Halloween. One of the few holidays Harlow found herself genuinely fond of. The vibe, the costumes, the parties - there was little not to like about the end of October, which neared in fast strides.

Her mission was to get an outfit - something that could work as a costume. With a limited budget and her high standards she hadn't managed to lower in the past couple of years, Harlow rummaged through various articles of clothes but luck was not incredibly kind to her poor soul on this particular day. Clothes, way too expensive for their poor quality and incredibly underwhelming design. With a heavy, saddened sigh, she put back a black coat, turned around in a lazy pirouette to slowly make her exit, leave the store and walk out of this frustrating misery. Slowly sauntering toward the exit, she passed the men's section and curious eyes wandered idly until -

"You don't actually consider buying that, do you?"

Beat: You shot my friend! Coco: I swear, you shoot one person and they never let you hear the end of it. Josh: I know right?

Coco: Hey, you shot me!

Sho: He shot me too.

Josh: You were trying to shoot me!

Neku: Look, could you all just please stop shooting-

[Joshua, Sho and Coco all immediately unload their guns into Neku]

I have two scenarios for you this time. The first is an add on to the first submission I posted. Imagine when you stop to rest and he has your hand under the coat on your bump, he feels the little one start kicking. Josh, as always when he feels it, lights up like a Christmas tree and says “You feel me my love? I can’t wait until you are here and can bundle up with us.”

Fast forward to when the baby is born and not only do they have a matching ✨him hat✨ with dad, but a matching big fluffy coat and Josh is walking around so proud to match his baby and show them the Christmas lights around the place he grew up. 🥹

this ask sent me down a rabbit hole of tiny baby puffer jackets with fluffy hoods and I’m in shambles 😭🤍
