CHILDREN OF THE CORN 4: THE GATHERING- 1996 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media
A small rural town that is fueled exclusively by massive stocks of corn on the cob is shaken by a bizarre flu that turns its children into feverish little hellhounds that kill grown ups.
Maybe its because i wasnt expecting much (the bar is pretty low for children of the corn movies) but this actually wasnt bad!
Its not a great movie by any means, but good 90s vibes, a starring role from a young Naomi Watts and supporting role from a middle aged Karen Black really boost this sequels watchability in a big way.
Also i thought the kills were a lot of fun. Many inventive, over the top and at points quite bloody kill sequences which were good stuff.

Embracing the Enchantment of Halloween: Celebrating the Magic in All Hallows' Eve
Shaina Tranquilino
October 31, 2023
Tumblr media
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
As autumn's crisp breeze fills the air, it brings with it a sense of anticipation and excitement for one of the most enchanting holidays of the year – Halloween. Steeped in centuries-old traditions, this magical celebration ignites our imagination and allows us to step into a world where reality and fantasy intertwine. Let us delve into the wonders of Halloween and discover ways to embrace its magic while creating unforgettable memories. 1. Unveiling Halloween's Origins: Halloween originated from ancient Celtic festivals like Samhain, marking the end of harvest season and welcoming the transition into winter. It was believed that on this night, spirits roamed freely among the living. Understanding these roots helps us appreciate the holiday's spiritual significance and adds an extra layer of mysticism to our celebrations. 2. Transform Yourself: Costumes & Disguises: One of Halloween's most cherished aspects is undoubtedly dressing up in elaborate costumes. Delve deep into your creative reservoirs and let your imagination run wild! Whether you choose to be a mythical creature, a historical figure, or a classic monster, donning a costume enables you to temporarily become someone else – embracing your alter ego and experiencing a touch of magic yourself! 3. Decorate with Spooky Elegance: Transforming your living space into an eerie yet inviting atmosphere is pivotal for fully immersing yourself in the Halloween spirit. From carved pumpkins glowing warmly on doorsteps to cobwebs draped across furniture, gothic candles casting flickering shadows, and strategically placed spooky decorations - create an ambiance that transports visitors to another realm. 4. Hauntingly Delicious Treats: Indulging in delicious treats is part and parcel of any celebration, but during Halloween, we can elevate this experience to bewitchingly delightful heights. Whip up some traditional treats like caramel apples, pumpkin pies, or revisit childhood favorites like candy corn. Organize a Halloween-themed potluck with friends and family to exchange spine-chilling recipes and create memories that will last a lifetime. 5. Embrace the Spirit of Giving: Halloween is not just about receiving treats; it also offers an opportunity to give back to our communities. Consider participating in local charity events or organizing neighborhood trick-or-treating activities that promote inclusivity. Encourage children and adults alike to donate canned goods for food drives or collect funds for charitable organizations while enjoying the festivities. 6. Summoning the Spirits: Storytelling & Traditions: Gather around a cozy fire pit or dimly lit room, where flickering candlelight adds an eerie ambiance, and share spooky tales steeped in folklore and mystery. From classic ghost stories to personal experiences, storytelling ignites imagination and brings us closer together as we revel in the ancient traditions of Halloween. Halloween is far more than just costumes and candies – it is a magical holiday that allows us to embrace our inner child and indulge in fantastical realms. By understanding its origins, creating enchanting atmospheres, sharing delicious treats, engaging in acts of kindness, and participating in age-old traditions, we can celebrate Halloween's magic to its fullest extent. So let your imagination soar this All Hallows' Eve, creating unforgettable moments filled with laughter, wonderment, and everlasting memories!

JULY CALENDAR POSTING...
So much to see, so much to do, so little time ! Lucky for you, here in the Valparaíso Region, we keep track of it just for you ! Unless stated otherwise, these activities are optional. Residents do not have to take part in these if they don't wish to ! These can be used for threads throughout the month but new threads can't be started for these activities once the month is up. Please track the valpocalendar tag to stay updated month to month ( ©️ )
BUT FIRST ! A word from VALPOFM... Transmitting...
"June has come to a close and if you felt like it was giving you the cold shoulder, just wait until you see these snowstorms set to come our way in July ! You guys tried to keep warm with bumping a lot of club anthems and rap hits. Some of you were definitely sitting in a chair staring out the window like you're Bella Thorne and to whoever listened to Take A Bite for 72 hours straight... I promise they have other music. As you look forward to all that we have coming up this month, make sure to take a walk down memory lane with DJ Cool with our June 2024 playlist of the valpo region ! "
Casablanca Activities
July 4 : Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean that flowers don’t grow—and just because it’s the coldest month in the Valpo Region doesn’t mean you can’t decorate and beautify your house with some gorgeous bouquets.  Casablanca Blooms and Coffee’s very own bouquet expert, Vanni Vallata ( @9iovanni ) will be leading a bouquet making class from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, featuring some winter favorites: the rhodophialas, salsilla, and the inca lily.
July 7 : The Dog Owner’s Club will be hiking the snowy peaks of the mountains in La Campana from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.  There’s nothing better than a good hike with some good company, and there’s nothing better for our canine companions than to give them variety in their walks.  If you’re tired of circling the same block, come take your pets to see the beauty of the Valpo Region forest and mountains in their winter glory.
July 13 : Though the winter may slow down life for the landlubbers, things in the water are just picking up!  Winter trout is in season, and the best place to catch some fresh grub is, as always, in the lovely fishing village, Quintay. From 5:00 AM - 7:00 AM, Quintay shops will be selling fishing supplies with a 15% discount, so stock up and hit the horizon!
July 20 : Inherited Escapes Book Club is hosting another book club session from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.  To celebrate Tomi Adeyemi’s 3rd book in the Legacy of Orïsha Series, this month’s book is Children of Blood and Bone.  Snacks and beverages will be provided, but it is BYOB-friendly.  Come spend a chilly Saturday night inside with some fellow bibliophiles!
Quilpué Activities
July 3 : Secondhand Style’s very own and very fashionable Saffron Barton ( @hntedhouse ) says giving is in and hoarding is out!  Every season can be a season of giving, and from open to close, Secondhand Style will be doing a BOGO: Buy One Give one to charity!  For this cold winter season, warm up your heart by buying something cute for yourself and helping someone in your community!  For every clothing item bought, Secondhand Style will be donating a clothing item.  You can also bring old clothes and donate them to Secondhand Style—they’ll gather it, bag it, and donate it on your behalf.
July 16 : Quilpué Zoo invites you to celebrate World Snake Day!  For today and today only, the reptile exhibit has been decked out—the snake section especially—to give people of all ages a fun and educational time with posters, slideshows, and a photo opportunity with a corn snake!  If that doesn’t strike your interest, perhaps the presentation with a Herpetologist will catch your eye: from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, Quilpué Zoo’s resident snake expert will give you the breakdown on a very special guest: Baobao the Boa Constrictor!
July 25 : It’s Christmas in July, which means Glee Club will be caroling Quilpué streets, spreading cheer and good spirits from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.  You do not have to be a member of Glee Club to participate, but you must have attended at least 2 rehearsals.  Please email [email protected] for more information.
Valparaíso Activities
July 8 : Casaplan will be hosting a Fundamentals of Ceramics Course, open to the public.  To ensure adequate one-on-one attention between student and teacher, the class will be 10 students max, first come first serve!  If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make your own mugs, plates, vases, and other ceramics, but haven’t been sure where to start, then take this as your sign!  Start with the fundamentals—start with Casaplan!
July 11 : El Festival de Cortos de Valparaíso is back at Casaplan!  Valparaíso’s annual short film indie festival has a fantastic line-up this year; the theme is winter world, and the variety of interpretations in the films will astound you—especially that of local cinematographer, Javier Dominguez-Herrera ( @vroyales )! Valpo Region's very own Javi has submitted his film, Bajo Cero, a horror / suspense short about a man staying in a cabin, being stalked and hunted in the winter woods. Over the course of the movie ( which Valpo Reviews has deemed "chillingly good" ), the audience will uncover secrets, confessions, and hints to the twist ending: is he being hunted? Is he being haunted? Is he even innocent? Come find out and support your local cinematographer!
July 12 : Come celebrate the birthday of famed poet Pablo Neruda, the creative genius behind the unforgettable line, te amo como se aman ciertas cosas oscuras, / secretamente, entre la sombra y el alma, with La Sebastiana from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM.  The museum will be lit up in fairy lights and decorated with artwork of his poetry interpreted and created by The Art Club.  Light finger foods will be served as well as cocktails and mocktails based on his most famous poems, and his poetry books will be on sale.  All proceeds go to upkeep of La Sebastiana.  Lastly, there will be a microphone where guests can share their own poetry or read one of Neruda’s out loud.
July 19 : Famous dance choreographer, Dani Diaz, will be hosting an advanced dance class to Chappell Roan’s song, Red Wine Supernova, at Harmony & Flow.  The class will be from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM.  If you come, you agree to being photographed and videotaped; class dance clips may be shared on Dani Diaz’s Instagram account.
July 20 : Biblioteca Santiago celebrates International Chess Day with a friendly chess competition from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM.  Sign-ups are from 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM.  First place winner gets a glass chess set.  May the best chess player win!
July 25 : If you’re not fond of caroling, never fear: ValpoFM has got your back!  From 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM, the radio station will be playing Christmas favorites for Christmas in July!  Not only that, but all the radio hosts will be on air for the entire time, chatting and entertaining both guests and listeners.  For their VIP guests, there will be a mini Christmas in July event at the station from 10:00 PM - 11:59 PM; there will be curated music, food, drinks, party favors, and a white elephant game.
Viña del Mar Activities
July 1 : Start off the first day of the coldest month of the year right—with a rooftop party at Club Divine!  From 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM, Club Divine has invited an old Catch Me If You Can DJ to curate the music in this highly anticipated and highly VIP event.  The theme is Winter Wonderland, and if you’re not dressed your best, don’t expect to make it past the velvet ropes!
July 18 : Castillo Wulff is leaning into their aesthetics and the winter season this month!  Today, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Castillo Wulff invites the public to cook s’mores over a fire pit and share ghost stories with the castle as a backdrop.  The scariest story will get a private tour of the castle with three of their friends, including the parts of the castle that are not shown to the public.  Though you’re trying to scare the socks off others, please make sure the stories are PG-13, as this is a family friendly event.
July 30 : It’s International Friendship Day, and what better way to make friends than to mingle with Unmingled Singles?  Unmingled Singles is hosting a get-together at Ambrosia Hookah from 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM. Get warm, get cozy, and get ready to take some numbers down! July 31 : Just because the water can get as cold as 38.3°F / 3.5°C in the winter doesn’t mean that the Diver’s Club is taking a hiatus.  Members and interested members are invited to do a Cold Water Challenge at Playa Luna from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM!  Get dressed in your best diver’s gear and join your friends into running into the cold, rushing waves for a fun but frigid dare!  Don’t worry though; it’s just a quick in and out of the water! Afterwards, to warm yourself up, the Diver’s Club offers a healthy helping of calapurca, a rich and hearty stew, just what the doctor ordered.

It’s season 6 but the Halloween episodes are still missing and there’s no Christmas episode this season either!
#2 of What’s missing from season 6.
Tumblr media
Several things that made 9-1-1 popular with viewers have been missing from episodes during season 6. Maddie’s absence from firefam gatherings is number one and number two includes missing Halloween and Christmas episodes that seem to have been erased from the season lineup.  Therefore the question is what happened to the Halloween and Christmas episodes?  A lot of viewers started watching 9-1-1 because of those episodes but there hasn’t been a Halloween episode since season 3 and even though there was a Christmas episode in season 5, it was SUPER DEPRESSING and based on comments from viewers after the episode aired, no one felt joyous or like celebrating when it was over.  There won’t be a Christmas episode in season 6 and there hasn’t been a reasonable explanation provided as to why these types of episodes have been removed from the show’s lineup.
Halloween
Halloween episodes in seasons 1, 2 and 3 all had some of the absolute best 9-1-1 calls included in them. In 1x7 “Full Moon Creepy AF”, Bobby and Buck had to deliver a lot of babies when they were dispatched to a pregnant Yoga class. In 2x7 “Haunted” there was a gravedigger who got buried alive and a police officer who lost his police horse partner.  Hen drove a forklift to get the gravedigger out which was awesome.  The police horse got injured during a stampede at a Halloween gathering and the police officer didn’t want him to suffer.  Hen was going to put the police horse down but she was too emotional to do it, so Bobby had to take over. There was a corn maze with crows in 3x6 “Monsters” and after two children started throwing rocks at them, the crows attacked them.  Also Buck rescued a man from the front windshield of a woman’s car because after she hit him, she experienced a brain injury but she kept driving around for two days with his body sticking out of her windshield.  Buck was still on blood thinners at the time, so his actions were epic especially since he had just returned to work after the lawsuit. There was no Halloween episode in season 4 probably because the season only had 14 instead of the usual 18 episodes but there was no good reason given as to why the original 5x7 “Ghost Stories” never aired.  It was supposed to include the ghost roommate story which a lot of audience members were excited to see but the whole episode was reshot and the revised version was DISAPPOINTING to say the least. Also there wasn’t a Halloween episode this season and 6x7 “Cursed” doesn’t count mainly because it was focused on only one victim and there also weren’t any references to Halloween like there had been in the past.
Christmas
Christmas episodes in seasons 2 and 3 were times that allowed the firefam, Athena and Maddie to come together as a family.  Bobby and Athena hosted a Christmas party at their house in 2x10 “Merry X-Mas” and Buck worked with Athena in 3x10 “Christmas Spirit” to organize it so that the 118’s families could join them for the holiday since they all had to work.  There wasn’t a Christmas episode in season 4 because it was a shorter season but the 5x10 “Wrapped in Red” Christmas episode was just DISMAL and SAD since Chimney, Maddie and Jee-Yun were gone and Eddie quit the 118.  Now it’s season 6 and episode 10 won’t air until March 2023 which probably means tonight’s 6x9 “Red Flag” episode won’t be related to Christmas at all.
What’s happened to the show and why were all these abrupt and sudden changes made to the formula that’s been working since season 1?  Last year the excuse provided was that a lot of the mains were missing and there were scheduling issues that prevented some episodes in 5A from being completed. What’s the excuse this season because all of the mains are present and accounted for and if any scheduling issues exist, then why did season 6A filming start earlier than usual on July 11th?  Can the showrunner please reinstate the original 9-1-1 formula that worked and stop trying to reinvent it?  This is a procedural drama not a sitcom or a CW show so please include the two themed episodes in season 7 so that the type of 9-1-1 calls the audience has enjoyed for 3 out of 6 seasons can be included.

20 Questions You Need to Ask a VRBO
The hottest new trend in springtime travel is a holiday-themed stay in a quaint New England village. But whether it’s Easter, May Day, Walpurgisnacht, what have you, there are some key details you need to discuss with your VRBO host.
Here’s what you should ask.
1. How many forbidden wells or ponds are on the property?
2. Is there a divining or hocusing fee?
3. Are your stone circles monitored, and are they handicap accessible?
4. Do the spirits in the attic understand American Sign Language?
5. Can we use gasoline-powered equipment or vehicles (combustion engine) to make our own stone circles?
6. May we address your corn growers by their first names?
7. What logo tones and RF frequencies, if any, should we use to “voice” the electromagnetic fields along trails?
8. Do we share “sightings” directly with the town council, or can we just tell the belfry watchman?
9. If we are jet-lagged or road weary upon arrival, can we skip the first Gathering? What about the first Summoning? The Awakening?
10. Will the humming sounds and glowing in the orchard stop after 10 PM?
11. Can you hear my thoughts?
12. Are we allowed to make eye contact with the horses and cats?
13. Are your trees "friendly?"
14. Do we really have to give the old blind woman at the covered bridge three silver coins every time we cross, or can we Venmo that?
15. Why does the compass on my cell phone always point to your barn?
16. Who handles blessings/prayers for our first day with the livestock, in case that goes south?
17. Do you supply the necessary chalk figures, life-size corn dollies, and swords for the Friday night thing? If not, are rentals available in the village?
18. To whom do we report children?
19. Are we allowed to communicate with the swarm, should the occasion arise?
20. Is there any decent pizza in the area and do they deliver?

Job: Judgment for the Wicked
Tumblr media
1 Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days? 2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof. 3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge. 4 They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together. 5 Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children. 6 They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked. 7 They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold. 8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter. 9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor. 10 They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry; 11 which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst. 12 Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them. 13 They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof. 14 The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. 15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face. 16 In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light. 17 For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death. 18 He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards. 19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned. 20 The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree. 21 He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow. 22 He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life. 23 Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways. 24 They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn. 25 And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth? — Job 24 | Authorized King James Version (AKJV) The Holy Bible: Authorized King James Version; Cambridge University Press, the Crown’s patentee in the UK. Day 1 - Arrival in Zambia
The journey has been challenging and tiring.
We arrived at heathrow airport with high spirits, (some slightly later than everyone else), and after a quick wait, we were boarding the plane to Addis Ababa.
Tumblr media
Many of us had never been to Africa before, and so we were all excited. We reclined into our seats and enjoyed movies, until we were served dinner at midnight while flying over the Mediterranean, and after we slept for a full two hours. Breakfast was at 4am, and was surprisingly tasty for so early in the morning.
The plane landed at 6am in Addis. Sadly, fog covered the windows, so our view of the city was limited. We stayed at the bustling airport for around 1.5 hours, some of the group enjoying the cafes there, others simply viewing the city. Our final flight to Ndola was 4 hours. There were no TVs, but the plane was much quieter than before, so some of us managed to get a bit more rest.
We arrived excited at Ndola’s small, but new and impressive airport. We went through passport control and after a slight visa delay and finding out that one of Dara’s bags had been left in Addis because the plane didn’t have enough space (he hopes he will get it soon!), we were through and ready for Zambia. We met and were welcomed to Zambia by the Beyond Ourselves team and then set off for our first stop - Nsobe Camp.
Leaving the airport, we took a small bus that led us through Ndola where we could get a first look at the people and culture of Zambia. We drove past the Chinese-funded stadium and saw many workshops and small markets. At a toll stop, a group of children hurried to the windows of the bus with water bottles and corn speared on pronged sticks which we enjoyed at around 25 cents each. We soon arrived at the Nsobe campsite and were amazed by the beauty and wilderness of the location. After going into our tents and sorting our luggage out, we quickly ventured out to explore the area. It didn’t take long to see chicken, monkeys and antelopes and the sunset was incredible.
Tumblr media
We got settled at the camp and played a bit of piggy in the middle. Following disastrous performances by the likes of Ka Lum and Paul, we waited for dinner, a choice of chicken, steak, or pork chops (all of which were exquisite). At 18:30 we all gathered in the reception for a motivational pep talk from Mr. Block et al. It was a relaxing evening as we got ready to eat some delicious food and some of us had a cat to keep us in good company. Having consumed our delicious chocolate cakes (with homemade ice cream) we were all tired after the long journey and ready for a delectable slumber.

Tw: bakugo’s cursing.
You were driving through the country side with three of your best friends in the backseat arguing amongst themselves as to what they wanted to do when they got to the farm.
“I want to go on the hay ride!” The angry voice of Bakugo sounded. “No! We’re doing the pumpkin patch! That’s what Y/n wanted us to do with them!” Izuku’s distressed voice responded.
“I thought we were going to do the corn maze?” Shoto said as he was now confused. You chuckled and kept driving. “Calm down back there, we will have enough time to do all the things you want when we get there. We can start by picking out the pumpkins.” You told them. Bakugo and Izuku stopped fighting for once and just stared out the windows of the car. Your GPs sounded that you had arrived at the farm as it appeared on the left side of the road. You could feel the excitement fill the car from where Izuku was sitting and a feeling of wonder from Shoto. Bakugo just grumbled under his breath saying that he was happy they finally arrived. You smiled to yourself and pulled into the parking lot and was guided to a place where you could park your car. When the vehicle was stopped, Izuku unbuckled himself and was the first to get out of the car. Bakugo was right behind him and Shoto soon followed. You gathered up your bag and followed after them as Bakugo and Deku had practically sped off to where the pumpkin patch was. “HEY! Wait up you two! We have to pay for admission!” You called after them. The duo stopped in their tracks and came back to stand with you as you paid the person standing in the stall admission for four people. You gave Bakugo and Izuku their wristbands and they ran off again with Bakugo claiming that he would find the bigger and better pumpkin than Izuku. You chuckled as Shoto was the one to stay by your side as the two of you walked to catch up with Bakugo and Deku. You and Shoto eventually caught up to them as they were scouring the pumpkin patch for the best pumpkin. You also looked at the smaller pumpkins with Shoto as you didn’t really want a big one as it would be heavy to carry around the farm. Shoto found an orange and white pumpkin he liked and he showed it to you. “Is this a good one?” He asked. He didn’t know much about coming to a pumpkin patch as he never got to do it as a kid. You nodded and had him put it in the cart before the two of you went out to the patch to find the other half of your group. You found them arguing over one of the pumpkins they had both chosen for their own. You left Shoto with the cart at the entrance of the patch as you went to retrieve the children from the patch. “I saw it first!” “No, I did.” You heard them arguing back and forth as you approached them. “Ok, you two. There’s plenty of good pumpkins in this patch. What’s special about this one that the both of you like?” “I like the size of this one.” Bakugo spoke. “I also saw it first, I should get it.” He added. “I like this pumpkin because I like the stem and shape.” Deku added. Bakugo burst out laughing. You took both sides into consideration. You looked over to the side and saw a pumpkin in similar size and shape and picked it up. “Bakugo, You get this one. Izuku, You get this one.” You told them both and began to walk back to the entrance. “C’mon! you’re just going to let the nerd get the original one?!” Bakugo protested. “Hurry up or you won’t get any of the treats I’m going to buy!” You called out and that got them to race each other to the front of the patch to put their pumpkins into the cart. They took turns pushing the cart up to the register where they bought their pumpkins and the boys took the pumpkins out to the car and they came back to eat some of the fried pumpkin croquettes, roasted chestnuts, and candy apples you had bought for them all. You were so glad the trip to the pumpkin patch went well. You sighed and enjoyed the food as you watched them enjoy themselves too. The next activity on the list was going through the corn maze. Now that would be an adventure in itself. The end.

(Liturgical Colour: White)
(Readings for the feria (Friday))
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Friday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading
2 John 4-9
The commandment which you have heard since the beginning is to live a life of love.
It has given me great joy to find that your children have been living the life of truth as we were commanded by the Father. I am writing now, dear lady, not to give you any new commandment, but the one which we were given at the beginning, and to plead: let us love one another.
To love is to live according to his commandments: this is the commandment which you have heard since the beginning, to live a life of love.    There are many deceivers about in the world, refusing to admit that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. They are the Deceiver; they are the Antichrist. Watch yourselves, or all our work will be lost and not get the reward it deserves. If anybody does not keep within the teaching of Christ but goes beyond it, he cannot have God with him: only those who keep to what he taught can have the Father and the Son with them.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 118(119):1-2,10-11,17-18
R/ They are happy who follow God’s law.
They are happy whose life is blameless,    who follow God’s law! They are happy who do his will,    seeking him with all their hearts.
R/ They are happy who follow God’s law.
I have sought you with all my heart;    let me not stray from your commands. I treasure your promise in my heart    lest I sin against you.
R/ They are happy who follow God’s law.
Bless your servant and I shall live    and obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see    the wonders of your law.
R/ They are happy who follow God’s law.
Gospel Acclamation
Hebrews 4:12
Alleluia, alleluia! The word of God is something alive and active: it can judge secret emotions and thoughts. Alleluia!
Or:
Luke 21:28
Alleluia, alleluia! Stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand. Alleluia!
Gospel
Luke 17:26-37
When the day comes for the Son of Man to be revealed.
Jesus said to the disciples:
‘As it was in Noah’s day, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating and drinking, marrying wives and husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. It will be the same as it was in Lot’s day: people were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but the day Lot left Sodom, God rained fire and brimstone from heaven and it destroyed them all. It will be the same when the day comes for the Son of Man to be revealed.
‘When that day comes, anyone on the housetop, with his possessions in the house, must not come down to collect them, nor must anyone in the fields turn back either. Remember Lot’s wife. Anyone who tries to preserve his life will lose it; and anyone who loses it will keep it safe. I tell you, on that night two will be in one bed: one will be taken, the other left; two women will be grinding corn together: one will be taken, the other left.’ The disciples interrupted. ‘Where, Lord?’ they asked. He said, ‘Where the body is, there too will the vultures gather.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

First Reading
Isaiah 61:1-3
He has sent me to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.
The spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken;
to proclaim liberty to captives, freedom to those in prison; to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord, a day of vengeance for our God,
to comfort all those who mourn and to give them for ashes a garland; for mourning robe the oil of gladness, for despondency, praise.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 88(89):2-5,21-22,25,27
R/ I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord;    through all ages my mouth will proclaim your truth. Of this I am sure, that your love lasts for ever,    that your truth is firmly established as the heavens.
R/ I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
‘I have made a covenant with my chosen one;    I have sworn to David my servant: I will establish your dynasty for ever    and set up your throne through all ages.
R/ I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
‘I have found David my servant    and with my holy oil anointed him. My hand shall always be with him    and my arm shall make him strong.
R/ I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
‘My truth and my love shall be with him;    by my name his might shall be exalted. He will say to me: “You are my father,    my God, the rock who saves me.”’
R/ I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
Gospel Acclamation
John 13:34
Alleluia, alleluia! I give you a new commandment: love one another just as I have loved you, says the Lord. Alleluia!
Gospel
Matthew 25:31-40
I was naked and you clothed me; sick, and you visited me.
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory. All the nations will be assembled before him and he will separate men one from another as the shepherd separates sheep from goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.
‘Then the King will say to those on his right hand, “Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.” Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?” And the King will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Clinic Day 3 (7/13) | Dr. Thomas Quach, MD (Provider)
The third clinic day begin at 6:25 with eating breakfast at our hotel. The breakfast consisted of Hu Tieu noodles, a local specialty and favorite of the older folks in our group. We were anticipating a more busy clinic day now that the community have gotten the word out about our free clinic as well as opening to everyone in town. Additionally, the heart team from Saigon would be down to perform ultrasound heart screenings so that would draw more patients. Having had two days of clinic most of the providers are more relaxed and the cooler weather made for an exuberant morning. There were some students that wasn't feeling well including some providers so some stayed in their hotel for the day. We prepared to go on the bus before 7 AM and most had on our N-95 masks. The weather was favorable with temperature cool due to recent rain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pharmacy and everyone gathered by 7 AM. We went to our respective clinic rooms, the Gyn exam and ultrasound were next to the pediatrics clinic with Dr. Phung and Dr. Shieh. They got to see their first little patient by 8:30 AM. GYN clinic begin with brief orientation to the volunteer students for the day and we started seeing our first patient by 9:30 AM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We made good use of the Butterfly hand held ultrasound and would follow up with the larger freestanding ultrasound provided by the local hospital. This GE ultrasound was brought by the regional distributor and provided courtesy by invitation from the Women's and Children Hospital of Soc Trang.
Tumblr media
The ultrasound room was very popular where today we shared the ultrasound with Dr. Shieh, who is doing general abdominal ultrasound. By 9:54 AM the ultrasound room already had 13 patients sitting in red plastic stools waiting to be seen, Dr. Shieh continues to be busy for the rest of the day with doing liver, gallbladder, kidneys ultrasound. The pharmacy room was bustling by 11 AM filling hundreds of prescriptions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were visited by the women and children's hospital Vice Director Dr. Anh Thư who visited our GYN clinic. By 12 o'clock we had lunch in the school cafeteria and as usual the food was delicious. It was provided by the school principal. The food was buffet style and consisted with sausages, local Vuong and noodles by 12:30.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The GYN group went over by bus to the Women's and Children's Hospital. There the students got to see a mother and a child nicknamed Corn, who was just admitted that morning and she would make cute grimace faces at us. At 2:30 we don local scrubs to go in and observe a cesarean delivery. We got to see how these are done in a resource limited setting in comparison to US standards. The surgeons were very skillful and the anesthesiologist had all necessary medication for the patient. They were very skill forward, performing the spinal anesthesia in preparation for surgery at the end of our shadow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We donated the remaining supplies of breast pump, ultrasound gel to the hospital and we left the hospital at 4 o'clock and returned to finish out the clinic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That evening we attended a grand banquet hosted by Dr. Nhu Thuy and got to see traditional dances and hear our host sing patriotic songs as well as our very own crooner Dominic. The awards were given at that time and we took turns receiving plaques and awards from local government as well as for MEMO. It was a good time to get to know some of the local officials and socialize. The banquet mood however was muted a bit by knowledge that some students and providers were unable to attend due to quarantine.
