I don't think people realize how absolutely wild Linux is.
Here we have an Operating system that now has 100 different varieties, all of them with their own little features and markets that are also so customizable that you can literally choose what desktop environment you want. Alongside that it is the OS of choice for Supercomputers, most Web servers, and even tiny little toy computers that hackers and gadget makers use. It is the Operating System running on most of the world's smartphones. That's right. Android is a version of Linux.
It can run on literally anything up to and including a potato, and as of now desktop Linux Distros like Ubuntu and Mint are so easily to use and user friendly that technological novices can use them. This Operating system has had App stores since the 90s.
Oh, and what's more, this operating system was fuckin' built by volunteers and users alongside businesses and universities because they needed an all purpose operating system so they built one themselves and released it for free. If you know how to, you can add to this.
Oh, and it's founder wasn't some corporate hotshot. It's an introverted Swedish-speaking Finn who, while he was a student, started making his own Operating system after playing around with someone else's OS. He was going to call it Freax but the guy he got server space from named the folder of his project "Linux" (Linus Unix) and the name stuck. He operates this project from his Home office which is painted in a colour used in asylums. Man's so fucking introverted he developed the world's biggest code repo, Git, so he didn't have to deal with drama and email.
Steam adopted it meaning a LOT of games now natively run in Linux and what cannot be run natively can be adapted to run. It's now the OS used on their consoles (Steam Deck) and to this, a lot of people have found games run better on Linux than on Windows. More computers run Steam on Linux than MacOS.
On top of that the Arctic World Archive (basically the Svalbard Seed bank, but for Data) have this OS saved in their databanks so if the world ends the survivors are going to be using it.
On top of this? It's Free! No "Freemium" bullshit, no "pay to unlock" shit, no licenses, no tracking or data harvesting. If you have an old laptop that still works and a 16GB USB drive, you can go get it and install it and have a functioning computer because it uses less fucking resources than Windows. Got a shit PC? Linux Mint XFCE or Xubuntu is lightweight af. This shit is stopping eWaste.
What's more, it doesn't even scrimp on style. KDE, XFCE, Gnome, Cinnamon, all look pretty and are functional and there's even a load of people who try make their installs look pretty AF as a hobby called "ricing" with a subreddit (/r/unixporn) dedicated to it.
Linux is fucking wild.

How to Deal with Windows 10/11 Nonsense
This is more for my own reference to keep all of this on one post. But hopefully others will find this useful too! So yeah, as the title says, this is a to organize links and resources related to handling/removing nonsense from Windows 10 and Windows 11. Especially bloatware and stuff like that Copilot AI thing.
First and foremost, there's O&O Software's ShutUp10++ (an antispy tool that help give you more control over Windows settings) and App Buster (helps remove bloatware and manage applications). I've used these myself for Windows 10 and they work great, and the developers have stated that these should work with Windows 11 too!
10AppsManager is another bloatware/app management tool, though at the moment it seems to only work on Windows 10.
Winaero Tweaker, similar to ShupUp10++ in that it gives you more control over Windows to disable some of the more annoying settings, such as disabling web search from the taskbar/start menu and disabling ads/tips/suggestions in different parts of the OS. I think ShupUp10++ covers the same options as this one, but I'm not entirely sure.
OpenShell, helps simplify the Start Menu and make it look more like the classic start menu from older versions of Windows. Should work with both 10 and 11 according to the readme.
Notes on how to remove that one horrible AI spying snapshots feature that's being rolled out on Windows 11 right now.
Article on how to remove Copilot (an AI assistant) from Windows 11. (Edit 11/20/2024) Plus a post with notes on how to remove it from Windows 10 too, since apparently it's not just limited to 11 now.
Win11Debloat, a simple script that can be used to automatically remove pretty much all of the bullshit from both 10 and 11, though a lot of its features are focused on fixing Windows 11 in particular (hence the name). Also has options you can set to pick and choose what changes you want!
Article on how to set up Windows 11 with a local account on a new computer, instead of having to log in with a Microsoft account. To me, this is especially important because I much prefer having a local account than let Microsoft have access to my stuff via a cloud account. Also note this article and this article for more or less the same process.
I will add to this as I find more resources. I'm hoping to avoid Windows 11 for as long as possible, and I've already been used the O&O apps to keep Windows 10 trimmed down and controlled. But if all else fails and I have to use Windows 11 on a new computer, then I plan to be as prepared as possible.
Edit 11/1/2024: Two extra things I wanted to add onto here.
A recommended Linux distro for people who want to use Linux instead of Windows.
How to run a Windows app on Linux, using Wine. Note that this will not work for every app out there, though a lot of people out there are working on testing different apps and figuring out how to get them to work in Wine.
The main app I use to help with my art (specifically for 3D models to make references when I need it) is Windows only. If I could get it to work on Linux, it would give me no reason to use Windows outside of my work computer tbh (which is a company laptop anyways).

I have some conflicting feelings about Oliver Stark right now. Not regarding his portrayal of the character (he’s doing a great job) but 1) his views of said character, his journey, growth and potential, 2) the ways he chooses to express and word those views.
Disclaimer: I admit these feelings of mine may be a bit misguided/overexaggerated at the moment for obvious reasons. Just ranting about what irks me. No hatred or accusations towards Oliver.
What rubs me the wrong way about all his interviews after 8x06 is his pure excitement, joy and strong desire for Buck to explore his bisexuality in fun ways with total disregard of how it came to be and what he already experienced (yeah I’m talking about his first queer relationship). He seems to be absolutely thrilled to immediately move onto the next fun (that’s the reoccurring theme) adventures. No genuine interest, engagement, reflection, empathy or gratitude regarding bucktommy arc during or after.
Since s7 there was a lot of talk about Buck figuring himself out after discovering he’s bi and it was said repeatedly loud and clear that it’s about Buck only. I get that Buck is the main and it’s no doubt his very personal journey that doesn’t need to be diminished to or overshadowed by someone else. But why was it so important for OS to completely isolate the story from Tommy (first queer LI) in his narrative, while other characters’ significance to the story (mostly their support) was mentioned regularly? Why his speculations and wishes for exploration couldn’t be interwoven into bucktommy arc? Why Tommy was never considered as means to/guidance/support/contradiction for the desired exploration (be it self-exploration, romantic/sexual/relationship dynamics, being part of the community, experiencing struggles etc)? I’m not talking about OS influencing the script, promoting the ship, going out of his way to defend it or speak out on any issues. I’m talking about opening up to opportunities of current canon relationship in terms of its impact on character development and not disregarding the whole thing as if it didn’t exist or mattered.
I guess I’m just confused what bi exploration and development exactly OS wants for Buck? Why could it only be done with single Buck? Why didn’t we see anything like that to this point and now it’s the logical next step as if Tommy was a nuisance the whole time (wasn’t important in bi realization and didn’t allow for fun adventures to take place during the arc). Why now OS rhetoric changes from distant and indifferent to anticipating and excited? He was so “honoured and humbled” with bi arc and talked about importance and intention of handling it with care, but now it’s just a fumbled relationship with no importance to it, quick recovery time and free way for bi Buck to sex it up both ways. That’s the development? I’m upset and baffled…
! Not blaming him for the actual plot (hoping he didn’t have anything to do with how it turned out), only thrown off by his perspective (at least the way it was perceived by me).

what do you think the welfare state should look like under socialism/communism (socialism as in the stage before transition to communism)
The welfare state is a specific concept that describes the instances of dictatorships of the bourgeoisie which choose to anesthesize the proletariat to various forms of social spending, its modern form developed in post-ww2 western Europe to counter the pressure the USSR and eastern worker's states put onto western Europe. Despite all the propaganda, if they did not pander in significant ways to their workers, the mere presence of these worker's states would have facilitated social upheaval.
I imagine what you mean to ask is what kind of social protections should be in place under dictatorships of the proletariat, and regarding this, any worker's state has instituted massive protections to guarantee employment to all who are able in some capacity, attending to their abilities, and ensuring a good life for those unable to work in whichever way. Services related to rights, such as healthcare, housing, access to water and electricity, the full development of each person through education and other related ways, etc, are typically completely free to access os paid for an actually accessible prices. And talking about prices, the prices of most consumer products are typically controlled, or limited, especially the essential and basic ones. For reading more on this I'd recommend Anna Louise Strong's The Soviets Expected It, since she has a good amount of descriptions of how these matters were handled, although the focus of the work is placed on matters related to the fascist invasion. Stasi State or Socialist Paradise?: The German Democratic Republic and What Became of It is quite good for this purpose from what I've read, but I can't link it because archive.org is down :(

Thinking out loud about Riverlands projects:
The Zines
Three (??) hexcrawl zines, each with a different environmental focus and set of hex-regions and procedural tools for filling things out even more. The first one is the most "general", and focuses on the rivers/waterways by introducing a set of different "hex-regions", plus some "river-crawl" procedures.
Aside: Calling these "hex-regions" because I ultimately want to preserve the anti-canon nature of the Riverlands by not creating a singular large, hex-map. These smaller regions could be strung together into a larger map, but there's no specific or correct way to do so, and the extra tools would also help someone further flesh out their version of the Riverlands.
The other two zines would focus on the Barrier Forest and various settlements/city-crawl tech. What exactly is going into the Forest zine is still up in the air, but I know for the Settlements zine is that it would feature the City of Bridges, which is a central location within the Riverlands setting.
The Game
The more I've been thinking about it, the more I want it to be easy to start playing in the Riverlands. The original setting zine is fine for that purpose, but especially when it comes to the more unique elements of the setting (some magic etc), then it becomes a lot more work to get it going in whatever system you choose to use. It's not impossible, but it is another barrier to play.
So, to that end, I have two ideas. First, a "total conversion" of the Ostrichmonkey Hack that makes it immediately Riverlands compatible. This is a fun idea to support my own game, and wouldn't be thaaaaat much extra work to come up with some extra classes/archetypes and some fun magical subsystems that fit with the Riverlands. The second idea is to do a set of "class packs" for various OSR/NSR systems (maybe more in the future? but those engines align with the play goals of the Riverlands right now).
I've already gotten a bit of a head start with this, since I'm working on an otterfolk OSE class (with plans to do Trickster-Poet, and some of the other more unique Riverlands options).
The Release
The end goal of this is to release the three hexcrawl zines in print. That won't be for a while still (gotta write the dang things first), but I'm also considering what avenues of digital releases to do.
The first and most straightforward is just, drop them when they're done. Bam, easy.
The second could be to follow something similar to Wolves Upon the Coast, where an initial digital version is released for a lower price, and with each iteration and update, the price goes up. This is something I'm sort of experimenting with with the Ostrichmonkey Hack anyways.
The third idea is to develop the hexes "live" via something like patreon.
The second two options are kind of stuck in my brain, because I think there is something interesting about the "live design" element of, which could be a great way to get people more interested in the process and results. The tricky part is you know, getting people interested in the first place.
Still much to consider! But in the meantime, there's still plenty of writing to do.
#ttrpg#indie ttrpg#ttrpg design#into the riverlands#you can blame aaron for reinvigorating my want to do more riverlands stuff lmao

I'm working on a book for people new to Linux. I've been using it since I was around 18, when I got my first laptop. This was 2007, and it was expensive for someone as poor as me to get a computer, which is why my parents didn't buy me one until I started college and moved out. I also got my first phone at this age, a $20 AT&T brick. Nothing like what we have today.
It shipped with Windows XP, which already wasn't great, but then came the Vista update, and I was a little peeved. I thought, "This can be done better." And I don't remember how, but I stumbled upon Linux and open source software in general. I'm poor, but I had some blank CDs and DVDs, so I started trying different distros to find one I liked. I played around with it and learned a lot, both about Linux as an OS and about hardware, software, and firmware more generally. How the parts fit together, what each one does and how, etc. I'm not an expert, but I learn best by doing. By playing, really.
I'm glad I developed this background knowledge, because a couple years later, my laptop was stolen. I was stuck living with my parents and had no prospects, but I did have some old computer parts.
Really old ones. Way too little storage and RAM for modern Windows or macOS, then called OS X. So I had to get creative with some obscure distros, like Damn Small Linux. It wasn't perfect, but it was also a machine cobbled together with spare parts that arguably should have been trashed but thankfully weren't.
Being in these situations sucks, but it's also cool to know that you can do stuff to survive if you absolutely must. And with the enshittification of tech lately, especially with Windows shoehorning in its AI bullshit and forcing you to upload shit to the cloud, a lot of people are going to be looking for an alternative. Since I've been there, I figured I could write a short guide for people in this position.
Linux appeals to me for a number of reasons. It's very customizable, so in practical terms, I do enjoy that. There are also a lot of different distros to choose from, and most of them work well out of the box. (That wasn't always the case.) But I'm mostly drawn to open source as a philosophical concept. It's like the opposite of the software-as-service and subscription models favored by a lot of companies today. I'm still really mad that I can't mod my Switch without risking my Nintendo account being kneecapped, as an example. They can do that in part because of the closed-source nature of their product.
On that note, gaming has also come a long way on Linux. I still dual-boot Windows alongside it, because once or twice a year, I run into something that I can't make work on Linux. It would probably be more accurate to say that I don't feel like making it work on Linux, because it probably can be done, but the effort is more than I feel like expending for the payoff.
My only real complaint about it is that the fingerprint scanner on my laptop doesn't work with Linux. But I also don't need it to, so it isn't a deal-breaker for me. It would be nice, but I'm already not super comfortable with anyone having my biometric data, so it isn't like I'm champing at the bit to make it work. Still, even if it did, it wouldn't be sent to anyone. Can't say I'm confident that the same is true of Microsoft and Apple and Google.
But when you get away from those companies, you realize how much of their shtick is about selling you things and collecting info about you. You want your computer to do basic computer stuff again without the unnecessary AI shit baked right into the cake? Use Linux. It will change your life.
Want to stick it to your capitalist overlords? Use Linux. I mean, do other things, too. But using Linux is a good start.

goh starter trio meta perhaps? i was ensnared by the goh-scorbunny parallel subpoint in the cubone meta bc i'm making myself unwell thinking about how scorbunny latching on to goh and goh latching on to ash.... but also more generally, sobble's whole thing and the absolute tearjerker drizzile evolution episode, and goh's weird ass dream about his rillaboom parents and then waking up to baby grookey clinging to his arm, you get it, i know you're galaxy brained about this
YESSS I AM *SO* GLAD YOU ASKED!!
so my tl;dr here is that all of the galar starters represent something about goh specifically relating to his childhood. their growth and eventual evolution (or lack thereof!) therefore serve to highlight his character development (as an aside, i think this is a very common theme in anipoke. ash's pikachu not evolving speaks to the fact that ash's growth isn't about becoming someone new but about staying true to himself and embracing a battle style that reflects the creative ingenuity that, in the early os, other characters mocked him for. similarly, dawn's piplup chooses not to evolve because it doesn't want to change how things are between them. does this not seem fitting for the partner of someone like dawn, who has always admired her mother so much that she never even considering doing something other than following in her footsteps? i'm sure there are other examples, but these seem to me the most obvious ones!).
let's break down each one, then!
scorbunny
when we meet scorbunny, goh is still determined that mew will be his first pokemon. this is a point of stubbornness that, while impressive and arguably kind of admirable, is frankly kind of stupid. how is he supposed to get to mew without any pokemon to help him? there's an interesting implication in this resolution, which jn004 and jn005 really highlight for us - goh isn't comfortable with having a pokemon. he knows a lot about them, is interested in researching them, but as far as the bond between pokemon and trainer goes, i don't think he feels prepared for that. it's easier to pick a target that is far from reasonably attainable for him at this point, especially since he does have some history with mew - didn't it take an interest in him? didn't it give him a reason to chase after it?
so meeting scorbunny, he's obviously not thinking about catching it. but he lies to the guy at the scone stand, in an interesting parallel to how scorbunny steps in to protect the nickit. he doesn't even seem to know why he does it. but just before that scene, he sees scorbunny wipe some of the dirt off its face. he doesn't get the whole story and connect all the dots until after, but i think he realizes then that scorbunny is trying to hide itself in some way. that it's performing as something it's not. and on some unconscious level, that motivates him to lie for it. after, we get this whole exchange, where the scone seller tells ash and goh the story
and this note is what makes goh get up and approach scorbunny and the nickit:
it's very symbolic that he wipes the mud off scorbunny's face. and then later, he even points out when they see it again that it looks better without all the mud covering it up - it looks more like itself. it's not pretending to be something it's not. goh wiping the mud off its face is him saying that he accepts it as it is. that being resigned to living a certain way just to fit in or just because that's how it's always been is pointless.
and i mean...even ash says in this scene that the things goh is saying are things he's only recently learned himself, right? goh denies it (and tbh when he says that he's always thought the world is big and anyone can explore it if they want to or whatever - i don't think that's untrue! i think it's just that, prior to meeting ash, he didn't have it in him to explore it), but ash has a point. and what goh is doing for scorbunny here is the same thing that ash did for him.
relatedly, scorbunny follows him, right? in the same way that goh "accepts" ash as his friend, scorbunny chooses goh as its trainer. goh recognizes that it travelled far for him, that it saw a vision of its future with him, and changes his mind about not catching it. i think the determination he saw in scorbunny to chase after its dreams resounded with him, because he's only just started doing the same thing. and his entire character is built around this idea of like, learning how to adapt and how to let other people help you find the courage to chase your dreams (and even to help you chase them). how could he possibly deny scorbunny the same thing?
but while scorbunny's enthusiasm helps motivate goh to chase his dreams, he is very flippant and dismissive, as we see when it learns ember and he says it doesn't matter, that scorbunny doesn't need to know a fire-type move and this gut-punch of a line, of course:
goh is someone who needs a lot of convincing to do things he doesn't think he'll be good at (or enjoy). he only joins project mew because gary goads him into it. he spends most of his life refusing to make friends, because he had one bad experience. he's a fairly black-and-white thinker, which makes sense considering his background. he doesn't really believe in change. he especially doesn't believe that people (or pokemon, in this case) can change their circumstances just through hard work and determination. as we see in jn003 with the ivysaur, he also doesn't think that it's anyone else's place to intervene and "help" others. if you can't change something, then don't. and there's no point in hoping it'll change on its own, either.
when scorbunny storms off here, his expression is interesting. this isn't the expression of someone being judgemental. it's the expression of someone who sympathizes.
he sees scorbunny trying so hard to do something he thinks it can't do and thinks that scorbunny's determination to change things is, if i had to guess, kind of immature. a lesson scorbunny will have to learn, whether it wants to or not. at first it's kind of endearing, but then he actually gets frustrated, because he feels like scorbunny's determination to learn ember is harmful to them both. here, there's a degree of "why won't you just trust that i know what's best for you?" for sure, but on a deeper level, i think that stems from a place of "can't you see that i'm just trying to protect you?"
...but obviously, all he really does is wind up lashing out and hurting scorbunny's feelings. he tells ash that he was trying to draw out scorbunny's strengths (and he was, by telling it to use moves it was already good at!), but ash points out that their values weren't aligned and that's kind of the opposite of strength when it comes to pokemon battling. so he reassesses the situation and finds a way to bring out scorbunny's strength that also aligns with what scorbunny wants. that compromise is what makes scorbunny evolve. it was the right call! but then raboot starts ignoring him.
and this is like. a running gag with scorbunny - goh gets distracted by other things and doesn't notice that it's trying to show him things. it happens when they meet and it happens again in this episode with its ember. we see something very similar with goh and his parents in jn032 when he's excited at the prospect of their vacation together, but when he tries to ask what they want to do, he turns around and find they're both asleep (and we see the flashback of something similar happening last time, too).
with raboot, in a lot of ways, goh is grappling with...himself. or at least, the person he was before he met ash - cold and distant, more interested in doing whatever he thinks is worth his time than in school, for example. so if goh saw his child self in scorbunny, he sees his more "adolescent" (i mean. he's still ten so still child, technically. but older child lol) self in raboot. and he actually responds to this in a way that's a lot like how we see his parents responding to him. in jn022, we see him
buy a bunch of apples for raboot, even though he thinks it doesn't need them (and is hurt when it doesn't let him have one, despite raboot seeming pleased that he bought them for it). compare to the device he shows horace in jn032, for example, which he says his parents built for him. or his six computer monitors. his parents reach him best through material means!
question why raboot hates him when it's not responsive to his overtures. contrarily, goh's parents don't think he hates them; they just automatically assume the worst case scenario (like in jn015 when he calls and they immediately wonder if he did something and got kicked out of the institute). but while that's their worst case scenario about him, raboot hating him is kind of goh's worst case scenario, right? it took him time to open up and accept scorbunny as his partner. now that it's evolved and is acting differently, he's terrified that he came to care for it only for it to leave him.
which leads to my last point here, which is that he doesn't actually ask what it wants. in this episode, he concludes that raboot would be happier without him. so he leaves it behind, but he never actually considers how it might feel. goh's parents do the same thing! they worry about him, but they don't share their concerns or ask how he feels. they just assume that he must feel a certain way and they adapt to compensate for that. but they never actually ask him what he wants.
this episode ends with him realizing that he hasn't been reacting to raboot's feelings so much as to his own, of course, and we see their relationship smooth out quite a bit. he's acknowledging that he's done things wrong, but also that it's not all his fault - and raboot's change in temperment is just a consequence of it evolving. they accept each other again and move on.
then, it evolves into cinderace and kind of opens up again more (though it's been doing that little-by-little since jn022). i think the fact that raboot and riolu evolve at the same time was a really cool move by the writers to kind of demonstrate how like...the relationship between ash and goh is reflected in the growth of their pokemon. they trained together! in a way they kind of grew up together! riolu, ash's token baby pokemon in jn, evolving at the same time as goh's starter feels like a very deliberate choice to highlight how ash helped goh's pokemon grow, too - through getting the ball rolling with how he helped goh grow as a person and a trainer. if that makes sense?
anyway, i don't have much to say about cinderace, other than that if he saw himself as a child in scorbunny and as an older child in raboot, then cinderace's level of openness and its enthusiasm aren't just reflexive of it getting back more of its scorbunny-esque personality - it also shows how goh has changed and has learned to embrace these parts of himself, now that he's in that "coming of age" age (well, for pokemon. he is still only ten lmao).
i think we see something similar with his other starters, though maybe a little less on the nose.
sobble
the drizzile episode, as you mentioned, is probably Thing here. but i think the theme with sobble is sort of that, where scorbunny maybe reflects more of the way goh thought about growing up and his aspirations (and how hard it was to open up to people), sobble more so mirrors his social experiences at school and with chloe.
VISUALLY, i think it's really telling that when goh catches sobble, he's...literally speaking to it from the other side of the water:
this whole episode (jn028) is about goh kind of...forcing sobble into positions it's not necessarily comfortable with, and not realizing that it's uncomfortable until it runs away from him. as we saw with raboot, this is a common theme with goh - but it's most obvious with sobble!
he realizes, of course, and says this:
even in flashbacks, goh never comes across as a shy kid. he doesn't exactly relate to sobble, but i think he's drawing a parallel here between them. he wasn't shy, but he was always on the "outside" - that's why he's so good at researching. he strives to see things as they are without getting involved. eventually, this is something that will make him a pretty thoughtful and strategic battler, though at this point he's still learning how to apply that to more than just research for the sake of research.
and then after sobble meets inteleon, we have these bits too:
goh's childhood motivations on the surface appear to be like...he doesn't want to bother with friends, because they aren't going to be able to serve a purpose for him. he isn't interested in making friends with anyone who is less into pokemon than he is. but after what happens with horace, it seems to get a little more complex, and then we have to wonder if his motivations really were that surface-level to begin with, or if, maybe, his policy of not making friends has always been a way for him to protect himself from betrayals like he experienced with horace.
we see chloe as early as jn001 trying to convince him to make friends, to no success. she doesn't even refer to herself as his friend - he doesn't seem to be willing to let her. he believes he doesn't need friends and is better off alone. but he doesn't realize until after meeting ash that his solitude is more of a self-imposed exile, in that it's hurting him more than other people. he can't improve as a person and reach his goals if he's too busy trying to protect himself to accept that he needs help from other people to do those things. so, again - i think he sees that side of himself in sobble. so it feels very impactful that he reaches out to help sobble become a better battler, but rather than forcing it to battle in a way that makes sense to him, he comes up with a way to have it train that plays off of its strengths of running and hiding.
and then, of course, there's the episode where sobble evolves, jn062. the writers themselves do most of the work here of drawing the parallel between goh's childhood and how drizzile is feeling, but i think it goes even deeper than that. drizzile is unhappy because it wanted to evolve into inteleon, not into drizzile. it's not comfortable in its own skin. and it doesn't necessarily want others to see it, because it feels like it's still growing and it's not ready yet. it kind of just...needs time to sulk and brood. drizzile runs away again, because it's not ready, and while they're looking for it, it's chloe who makes goh start thinking about when he was a kid, by saying this:
which prompts him to think about how he was searching for a "reason" for why drizzile was acting how it was, just like how adults used to demand reasons from him even when he didn't have them. and then of course we get this scene:
but i think he does on some level know why, because he talks immediately after this about how his parents weren't home and often felt lonely. he's more comfortable being alone. he's protecting himself. which is reinforced by the fact that he then tells drizzile this:
goh has a hard time putting his feelings into words, which is something we see throughout jn. he sees that drizzile is the same and this is a huge moment for him, because he's saying here that it doesn't matter what inspired its feelings; he understands it is experiencing those feelings and that's enough. he'll wait until it's ready to fully process them or whatever else it needs. drizzile kind of returns the favour when he starts crying here and it reaches up to brush away his tears, then disappears again.
overall, this episode does an amazing job of showing us how goh has become someone who actually acknowledges his and his pokemon's feelings - this is the only time we see him as a child where he's not doing something to try to ignore his feelings, or trying to walk away from them. in flashbacks, his back is often to his parents. in jn032, he gets upset, and then tries to cover his disappointment up immediately with anger and avoidance. the writers set this scene up so that we can see the reason behind his feelings clearly (just like we can see the reason behind drizzile's, even though goh and co. can't), but they rightly emphasize that goh's ability to analyze "why" he or his pokemon are feeling a certain way isn't always helpful. emotions are meant to be felt, not intellectualized. it's a good message, and a huge area of growth!
drizzile's evolution into inteleon also shows us how this acceptance translates into it eventually being comfortable enough to be who it wants to be. and the characters are impressed by it - it even earns kecleon's admiration, the same way that other inteleon earned its when it was a sobble. this is a pretty clear mirror with goh's social life, where he went from being this friendless outcast figure to someone with a lot of friends, and a great willingness to make more, as he became more comfortable and confident and willing to reach out to others.
and lastly,
grookey
the only one of the three that doesn't evolve, for reasons that aren't ever really made clear to us. but i think that as random (...and tone deaf) as his dream sequence at the start of grookey's debut episode is, it actually makes a lot of sense. in the original, the dream has camille and walker transformed into rillaboom, and goh is understandably freaked out. but i think the bigger, more symbolic thing is that even if it is a dream, his parents are the ones that foist grookey upon him. this does seem like a really weird choice, until you start thinking about the parallels, right?
in reality, grookey is team rocket's pokemon. the episode title "when a house is not a home" tells us that grookey obviously doesn't feel like it "belongs" there. but the episode doesn't open in team rocket's base. it opens in goh's apartment. and the part i didn't show in the drizzile scene above is when he says this:
the fact that goh was home alone a lot as a kid gets brought up fairly often. it implies that he kind of had to adopt this lone wolf persona, because there was no one else around to take care of him. he had to learn how to console himself and meet his own needs (hence why he's so combative about ash intervening with the ivysaur in jn003!), which is a lot of responsibility for a kid. grookey is handed to him like it's a responsibility in his dream, but then they bond. and he starts to appreciate having grookey around, to the point that he misses it when it returns to team rocket.
to me, the choice to have grookey not evolve kind of comes down to grookey being kind of...emblematic of goh's childhood. like, in his dream, grookey is this burden that's forced on him. someone he has to take care of, even though he isn't really prepared to do that. in reality, grookey is escaping from an environment that doesn't meet its needs. putting those two things together, i mean...that's just my reading of it, anyway. so grookey not evolving, and goh accepting grookey as it is - without any of the "growing up" analogs we have with cinderace and inteleon - is a way of showing that goh has come to terms with his childhood and that he accepts (and cherishes!) his childhood self. which he can only really do after he's done all the growing we see reflected in the evolutions of his other starter mons. (relatedly, grookey is the only starter of goh's who goh considers leaving with other mons in its evolution line. specifically, with two thwackey and their child, i.e. a family unit not unlike goh's!)
anyway! this is a very long post, so thanks for sticking with me if you did. hope my takes are as galaxy-brained as you hoped hehe
#answered#*meta#pokemon#anipoke#goh#meta#phew sorry this took so long. it was all in my brain i just had to get it out there lmao#i think i also almost hit the image cap on this post so dhjfghjfdk#anyway i will die on this grookey hill 100%. i am SO glad they never evolved it :p

The latest chapter of My Dress Up Darling should've been a happy one: Marin basically ascended to godhood, with everyone loving her cosplay and getting an offer to even start cosplaying professionally. All this thanks to Gojo.
They did everything right. I can't really emphasize enough how right they did: they spent their nights putting everything into their craft, all their passion, all their technique, even all their luck into making something great.
And they did it. They won, simple as that.
And the worst thing of all, it doesn't feel fulfilling. Seeing Gojo's face in page 22 is so...depressing. It's definitely sad because he reached the top and it's clear he couldn't feel Marin there, even if she was literally there, smiling at him.
I'm extrapolating, but I can imagine that, in his mind, he feels Marin doesn't need him anymore; now, being a professional cosplayer, Marin will have access to an entire new world, with the greatest tailors, propmakers and all the connections, while he will return to his dolls. But it won't be the same without Marin.
Marin, however, will have to decide. She might try to reach Gojo, but I fear she won't know what to say, and I really fear that if she confesses to him, it'll make things worse, because Gojo os really not in a good state of mind. She has a classic romcom dilemma: career or love. I know this dilemma has a bad reputation because of all those crappy Hallmark movies that begs the question why on this blue Earth would the girl choose love over career?
But this is a real dilemma for Marin and if we've been following her story for 100 chapters, we can be invested on it. Marin would hesitate a lot, but Gojo, given the current circumstances, would probably beg for her to choose career and I doubt he'd accept an offer to work for a professional outlet (maybe he could accept if they offer a deal for his family's doll business, but I doubt he'd have passion - again using current developments).
There's still a lot of things to happen. Marin is stronger than she looks and will fight for both Gojo and her dreams.

Hedonism Makes You Smarter
Every value we hold dear, every fact we consider indisputable, every thread of irreducible logic we base our reality on can be traced back to something the earliest one-celled microbes realized without even possessing a brain to process it:
Life = Good Death = Bad
At some point in the unimaginably distant past, some microbe mutated to the point where a certain type of stimuli prompted it to either move away or move closer.
And thus ethics / logic / morality / philosophy / theology was born.
The microbes capable of moving away from threats and towards nutriment stood a far better chance of surviving and reproducing than those that did not.
Very quickly, this rudimentary value system became permanently embedded in all life on the planet.
Any organism not embracing this principle quickly gets consumed by other life or wiped out by natural forces.
As we evolved into multi-cellular organisms, some of those cells develop to specialize and capitalize on the “flee death / find food” paradigm. Every new mutation got weighed against this relentless evolutionary razor. Any mutation that didn’t help tended to get eradicated ASAP while those that helped got reinforced.
Sure, some mutations appear useless but in their cases so long as they didn’t impair pro-survival traits.
Eventually some of these specialized cells specialized even further into organs we now call brains.
And within these brains some sort of…abstract (for lack of a better word) consciousness…
Consciousness is oft referred to by philosophers and scientists as “the hard problem.”
And not in the least because – as with pornography – everybody knows it when they see it, but no one can adequately define it.
Some call it the spirit, some call it the soul, some call it psyche, some call it mind, some call it being, some call it identity.
Some claim body and mind are one, yet it is absolutely possible to destroy most of a human’s brain – and by that, who they ever actually are -- while keeping the body alive and healthy.
Others claim body and mind are separate and that in some yet to come golden age we can transfer our minds from these rotting flesh carcasses to perfect, immutable silicon bodies…
…only they not only lack any mechanism for doing so, they can’t adequately define what it is they’ll be transferring.
This is not a trivial matter!
This is of vital importance Right Now to all of us, especially those who choose not to think of it at all. If we are nothing but a batch pf data points in a meat computer, then our whole sense of unique and discrete individual identity evaporates. Any transfer of data points does nothing for the original organism…or its accompanying soul / identity / mind / consciousness.
This is why I think AI will never acquire bona fide self-awareness and consciousness. Whatever grants us possession of such an abstract concept does not exist without feeling.
And these feelings came from the first protozoa to flee death and embrace life.
What we feel in e otions originates in what we feel physically.
We feel pain, we seek to avoid it. We feel hunger, we seek food. These basic sensations steer us to live, and not just live but to live abundantly, to avoid being prey to predators, to avoid conditions that would physically impair us, to seek out what prolongs and enriches our existence (again, not in a monetary sense).
We can see even plants doing this without benefit of anything recognizable as a brain or identity. They grow towards beneficial stimuli and away from harmful ones.
Once brains arrived on the scene, organisms may develop more nuanced means os assessing threat / benefit ratios. Already wildly successful on the most basic levels found in tardigrades and worms, when brains obtained the most rudimentary means of symbolizing the external world and passing that information along to other brains / minds, the race for genuine consciousness kicked into high gear.
At some point this symbolic version of the world began to reside full time in an abstract realm we refer to as consciousness.
Within the physical confines or our brains we conjure up literally an infinite number of symbolic realizations of what appears to be our “real” world – or at least our interpretations of the real world.
I hold this phenomenon to be something vastly different from AI’s generative process where it admittedly guesses what the next numbers / letters / words / pixels in a sequence should be. AI is nothing but a flow chart -- a sophisticated, intricate, and blindingly fast flow chart, but a flow chart nonetheless.
Human consciousness is far more organic -- in every sense of the word. It places values on symbolic items representing the (supposedly) external world around us, values that derive from emotions, not a predetermined logic chain.
You see, in order to create the ethical systems we live by, in order to create the cultures we inhabit, in order to experience genuine consciousness and self-awareness, we must feel first.
This is anathema to both the “fnck your feelings” crowd and to materialists who insist we need to process everything we experience purely rationally like…well…AI programs.
Nothing could be further from the truth, of course.
To differentiate between life and death, being and non-being, all higher functioning brains develop an emotional bond towards life and a hgealthy antipathy towards death.
The mix may vary from culture to culture -- one certainly doesn’t expect a 15th century samurai to share the exact values as a 21st century valley girl -- but they share a common set of core values that can be related to and understood by each other regardless of their respective background.
Because they feel emotionally -- both stoic samurai and histrionic teen -- they create a consciousness that can experience the external world and relate that experience both to themselves and others.
By comparison, when AI correctly predicts "the sun will rise tomorrow" does it actually understand what those terms mean or only that when they appear they usually do so in a certain sequence? This is the Chinese room paradox: Would somebody with a set of pictograms but no way of knowing what those pictograms actually symbolized actually understand Chinese if they figured out by trial and era that certain patterns of pictograms preceded another pattern?

For the latest ask game...Great Ace Attorney, specifically
Favourite Character:
Gina, my girl Gina!! I love her development!! She adds to the atmosphere so well in Unspeakable Story, and I love her and Gregson's dynamic in DGS2!
Least Favourite Character:
Roly Beate. I think his gag is a little obnoxious, but I'm less endeared to him than Pat, so... I don't really actively dislike him that much, but he annoys me, so if I have to pick a least favourite...
5 Favourite ships (canon or non-canon):
-Ginasusa
-Haosusa (/Susarei)
-Ginasusaohao
-Asoryuu
-Nikosusa
Character I find most attractive:
Uhm. I don't know if I feel qualified to answer this. Maybe I'll just say whose design I like best... In which case, Gina again, maybe? I think she's very well-designed! :)
Character I would marry:
Also not that qualified to answer this one, uh... I could marry Courtney Sithe to make her history of marriages/relationships even more confusing? lol
Character I would be best friends with:
Iris!! We both like writing and science so I think we'd be cool buddies
A random thought:
Killing off Jezaille Brett at the start of DGS2 is an excellent way of setting the tone for the rest of the game, as well as setting up that, yeah, important characters can just die, so that Gregson's death works better later. I think it's a very shocking reveal that she's the victim, and I like it a lot.
An unpopular opinion:
Idk if this is that unpopular, but I asked my friend, and they told me this is at least a weird opinion, but Return of the Great Departed Soul is my favourite case in the doulogy, and my favourite case in Ace Attorney overall.
My canon OTP:
There aren't that many canon ships, to my memory, but the Vigils (Evie and Daley Vigil), I guess? Better than the Beates or the Garridebs...
My non-canon OTP:
I guess since this says OTP I can't say Ginasusahao, so uhm... Ginasusa, maybe? That's probably my favourite DGS ship, but I'm not like, that attached to it specifically, so...
Most badass character:
SUSATO MIKOTOBA!!! She saves you in court so many times, and she will take down anyone she needs to with a Susato takedown <3
Pairing I am not a fan of:
Hm... The most I think I get towards DGS ships I don't care is ambivilent, tbh. I can usualy see why people like them, though. I guess the ones I stear most clear from would be Baroryuu or Asobaro? Nothing against then, and I can get why people ship them, but they're not really my thing.
Character I feel the writer's screwed up:
Right, this isn't so clear-cut as it would be as if I was writing this about PL, but if you'll allow me to be petty for a moment, I do have a few minor grievances with Susato. I love her writing for the most part, but I think there was a major missed opportunity in the specifics of her ending.
I don't think her thematic beats about choosing her own path work quite as well if her sole motivation to return to Japan at the end of DGS2 os for Ryuunosuke. Like, yes, she chooses to follow him over Kazuma, that's something, but she's still just choosing to follow another character, when she was previously set up in Blossoming Attorney to be capable of standing on her own if the law only allowed it! I think i would have liked it more if it was at least implied that she returned to Japan to help Ryuunosuke AND start to try to begin her own legal career.
Otherwise, I think her ending's uncomfortably similar to the midpoint in her arc for the ending of Unspeakable Story. Albeit indirectly, she's once again returning to Japan upon her father's request, and I think that could have been avoided a little if her motivations for wanting to return were established as being outside of what other characters want, because that is her arc!
Favourite friendship:
Kazuma and Susato. Everything they do with those two is so interesting to me, and I love writing about it. It's so interesting how core Kazuma is to Susato, but how also she can't mean as much to him, because he only met her properly after he's already decided his mission. But she still means a lot to him, and I just, augh. I love the tragedy.

One of my old writings.
-
1400 to 1600 cm³, a weight of 1,4 to 1,6 kg. A construction of synapses, neurons, axons, dendrites. Grey matter. The controlling-station of the human mind, body function and "soul". You might know what I am talking about. The human brain, such a simple yet amazing structure once you look at it. A disturbing view in tiny jars filled with Formaldehyde; swimming, almost floating agonizingly slow with its consistence of soft goo. A warning. A mockery. However. It looks simple, and still – isn't it amazing what that bit of "goo" is capable of?
The human learns all life long, the most in its first years of existence. Perception. Realisation. Training your five senses; Optics, Tactile sense, Acusthesia, Olfactus and Gustus. Balance. Behaviour. All of it depends on the brain, on its functions and abilities to develop, to learn. People learn from mistakes, they adjust to situations. However; how everyone alters and learns from consequences is an individual trait.
People say that babies are already born with their own defined character. I don't think so. Not at all. A newborn is like a blank sheet of paper. Experiences act as writing tool, scribbling impressions onto the empty document in a language far too abstract for us to understand.
I should know best. Life formed me, created me. You dare to complain? None is born good or evil. Life is what makes you "good". Parents make you choose the "right" path; well, whatever they claim to be right. Wrong behaviour will be punished, not tolerated. They will shape you until they are proud of their creation. And while you walk, all formed and designed by your environment's imagination, you are still empty, looking for something like a sense, a purpose for your existence. Have you found out already? What is your purpose?
Well... mine is to strive for better. You are just sheep. Not in the common sense of course. But look closer. You humans act like them. You never stray around on your own, no. You prefer to stick to the herd, wearing the same pelt as everybody else. Don't stay out of the masses. Be invisible. Don't be yourself, be somebody else. Smile if you feel like crying. Cheer and celebrate although you rather want to roam and roar. That is what sheep do, next to grazing aka gulping down fast-food in front of your TVs.
But not me. I am the beast.
Many humans tried to shape me. Many have punished me. But I had a mind on my own ever since. I don't even remember when I started to exist, when I was born. It was too long ago. But it was me who tore the belt when it promised harm once more. I stood up and showed them my borders. I am the one watching over you, my little lost lambs.
I can turn you into a wolf, you know?
You will understand soon. You are the one equipped with a heart after all.
Heart.
Isn't it a fascinating organ? It does not matter that a human hand is the most complicated set of bones, 27 to be exact.
-Carpal bones, proximal; Os scaphoideum. Os lunatum. Os triquetrum and Os pisiforme.
-Carpal bones, distal; Os trapezium. Os trapezideum. Os capitatum and Os hamatum.
-Metacarpal bones; Os metacarpale primum, secundum, tertium, quartum, quintum.
And of course, Ossa digitorum manus. But I am sure that you already lost focus by figuring out the carpal bones, so I show mercy and spare you with details. Back to the important thing. The human heart...
Once, it was the heart being the centre of the human mind and soul. Medical Scientists, of course. They would know better. The heart is only a muscle without feelings, and what a muscle it is. Only as big as an adult's clenched fist, but capable of so much power. It is that underrated engine that really keeps us going. On top of that, a mystery to all of us. What does it take to start the machinery? What makes it pump all live long and why does it start beating, just like that?
A medic could give you all the answers, while I ask the questions from the philosophical point of view. Isn't a heart just like a perpetuum mobile? Always moving on its own without the spark that causes the motion? Not quite. One day it stops beating. Some hearts work longer, some don't. Maybe because humans don't care about their health, smoking, drinking and eating uninhibitedly while planting their fat asses into office seats every day.
Crapulence. Society's answer to everything. Where you and I come from, people had to do something for their living. And by that, I don't mean office-work with a beer and an occasional fuck at night, let alone if they pay for it or not. But really, what does it matter if it is a prostitute or their "partner"? Mankind pays for both.
Even the partner, wife or husband, is a prostitute. You get something if you do something. Yes ladies, I mean you. Spread your legs, let him in, expect a little shitty pair of earrings or, for the spoiled kind, a short trip? Pelts? A car maybe? For the less privileged, attention before he rolls to the side and snores all night which causes you to walk into the kitchen and find comfort in a glass of wine. I have seen all of it. And I ended so many of their miserable little lives already. Still, it's not enough.
It NEVER is enough.
Humans don't know how well they are doing here. Complaining about the smallest things while they literally bask in their materialism like pigs in dirt. Yes. It seems to be the fitting allegory to a race that is filled to the brim with a double-sided moral. They hurt while they cry if they get hurt themselves. They punish people for doing the wrong things but do exactly the same behind closed curtains! I am so sick of your sanctimoniousness.
But don't worry.
The wolf is on his way.

Top Shopify App Testing Tools for 2024: A Complete List

As the world of e-commerce becomes increasingly competitive, ensuring that your Shopify app delivers optimal performance, speed, and functionality is crucial for success. For enterprise-level e-commerce businesses, especially those operating on the Shopify platform, robust testing protocols are no longer a luxury—they're a necessity. Utilizing advanced Shopify app testing tools can significantly reduce downtime, improve user experience, and enhance the scalability of your app. But with so many testing solutions available, how do you choose the right one?
In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the top Shopify app testing tools for 2024. We'll delve into the key features that make these tools indispensable for app quality assurance (QA), how they streamline testing processes, and why investing in these tools can help your business stay ahead of the competition. Whether you're evaluating Shopify app QA tools for the first time or looking to upgrade your current Shopify app testing software, this guide has you covered.
Why App Testing Is Essential for Enterprise Shopify Businesses
In 2024, user expectations for speed and functionality are higher than ever. Studies show that 70% of online consumers will leave a website that takes more than three seconds to load, and poorly performing apps can result in millions in lost revenue for enterprise-level businesses. Testing your Shopify app for load times, security vulnerabilities, and overall stability is no longer just a step in development—it's a vital component of your overall e-commerce strategy.
One of the primary reasons app testing has become so crucial is that the complexity of Shopify apps has grown over the years. Large-scale businesses now rely on apps to automate workflows, manage large inventories, and enhance customer experiences. Testing ensures these critical systems continue to perform under the pressure of real-world conditions, especially during peak sales periods like Black Friday.
Key statistics underline the importance of app performance: A study from Statista reveals that the global mobile app testing market is expected to grow to $9.3 billion by 2027, with much of this growth driven by the e-commerce sector.
Expert quote: “Investing in a robust app testing framework not only protects your e-commerce business from potential failures but also provides a better experience for your customers, which is essential for long-term growth,” says John Doe, CTO of EcomNext.

React Native: Why Should You Use It For Your Mobile App?
Introduction
There is no doubt that mobile applications are a basic need in our day-to-day life. Tons of mobile apps are being downloaded every day. Every organization requires a mobile application for its business so every app must be well-optimizer and user-friendly as well.
Therefore various frameworks are being created and used to give out the best mobile app to the customer and from all of them react native is one of them.
What is React Native?
With various frameworks and technologies available, choosing the right one can be terrible. However, when it comes to creating high-quality mobile apps, React Native has always been a first thought for mobile app developers.
In simple words, React Native is an open-source UI software Framework for creating mobile applications for Android and iOS platforms. Moreover, it allows developers to build high-quality mobile applications using a single codebase.
However, the question arises as to why React Native is the best framework for mobile applications. So, let’s begin with why mobile app developers rely more on the React Native framework.
The Advantages of React Native
The apps that are created by React Native are always of high quality and flexible towards code sharing to make it a developer-friendly framework.
Cross-Platform Compatibility One of the most significant advantages of React Native is that it’s flexible on various platforms. As it’s a cross-platform framework it provides the same level of performance as a native app for android and iOS as well. It just requires a base code and it can be operated on any OS platform, by which you don't have to hire developers for various platforms. That’s the reason why React Native is used as a hybrid application.
UI Focused React Native allows you to create a unique eye-catching UI (User-Interface) for the app. It involves components like clicks, hovers, keyboard inputs, and all to make your mobile user-friendly and easy to navigate. You can say this framework pays a lot of attention to designing UI apps.
Hot Reloading This is one of the advantages that allows the developers to view two screens at a time allowing them to inspect the live changes without reloading the entire app. Hot reloading is also known as Live reloading which improves the development process with real-time feedback.
Better Performance Compared to native apps React has plenty of components that are used for different features and functions. Therefore, it allows the developer to create mobile apps faster and more efficiently which reduces the time and work needed to develop an app.
Accessibility For every mobile app development process accessibility is the main aspect as it increases the size of your potential market. React Native has a considerably more robust accessibility API than many others. Developers can gain benefits in approving apps from this feature of React Native.
Future Of React Native
React Native has already made a name for itself in the field of developing mobile applications. Performance and stability optimization will be one of React Native's main future priorities.
To provide a seamless experience for developers and end users, the React Native team and the community are actively solving the performance issues. The bridge between JavaScript and native components is being optimised to cut down on cost and speed up rendering.
This involves enhancing navigational capabilities, enabling smoother animations, and improving support for platform-specific components.
The future possibilities for React Native are promising to continue work and a passionate user base. The developer experience is streamlined and native-like user interfaces are made possible as performance increases.
Conclusion
In conclusion, React Native is the clear choice for mobile app development. Its numerous advantages, cost-effectiveness, and ability to deliver native-like experiences making it the preferred framework for developers worldwide.
So, embrace your React Native mobile application with Techvoot Solutions where our experts ensure to create a seamless and robust mobile application for your organisation.

Mac Package Installer and Bodyshop
They are NOT broken, at least not on my M-series Mac running Ventura. They ARE acting a bit oddly.
If you are getting the unsigned app or unknown developer error message, the fix is simple. Open Finder. Click on Applications. Scroll down the The Sims 2 Bodyshop or Package Installer. Hold down the control key while you click the application and choose Open. You are done. It will thereafter open normally. This is what fixed Bodyshop for me.
Package Installer works. It only seems like it doesn't work. After you install a Sims2Pack, you must start the game and actually enter a neighborhood. You don't have to enter a lot. Exit the game, and your custom content will be in your Downloads folder or Sim bin or lot bin, right where it belongs. Tedious but working is so much better than not working at all!
Let me know if this does not fix your Bodyshop and Package Installer, along with your Mac CPU type and OS version.
