Sid:

- he has a soft spot for goth clothing, but only when you wear it

- maybe that's because you led him to it through your development

- you didn't always dress like this

- in the past you didn't put much thought into what you wore, you just took

what you get

- you were already a couple back then

- at some point it clicked and you dressed differently

- Sid thought it was a bit weird at first, he didn't think your new look was bad it's not like that, but you just looked different, not like when he first met you

- but the way Sid is, he thinks it makes you dangerous, and he thinks that's hot

- it also has a plus point, now Sid doesn't have to worry about unwanted pairs of eyes looking at you

- also your taste in music has changed

- of course you always supported his music, listened to it, but you never listened to more than Slipknot

- now you have discovered your passion for metal, which Sid is very happy about, because you can visit concerts of this kind together

- extra: with his oversize jumpsuits he wears at gigs he has one of your bracelets on each arm, so he is not only closer to you but can also work at the mixing desk without the sleeves slipping down

Joey:

- he loves your clothes with all his heart

- especially your jewelry and shoes

- if you have the same shoe size he wears your boots to Murderdolls gigs

- when you come home with new bracelets he asks you to show them to him

- you do it proudly of course, want to show off your new achievements

- Joey looks at everything examining, already considers which he can steal from time to time

- sometime later you want to wear a new bracelet, but it's not there

- "Joey! Have you seen my bracelet?"

- you enter the room he is in, he hides his hand behind his back. "No?"

- you walk up to him and pull his hand out from behind his back. Your bracelet dangles around his wrist. "If you like my jewelry so much why don't you buy the exact same thing? Why don't we go partnered?" You suggest

- Joey, of course, is thrilled. But only goes along on one condition. "You pick out the jewelry and I buy it."

- that's how it comes that you often wear the same accessories

Chris:

- as soon as he sees you in fishnet clothes something stirs inside him, he just loves it

- on those days he can't tear his eyes away from you

- all the time they are on you, not craving or anything, just desiring, like you are the most valuable thing this world has ever produced

- but not only his gaze is constantly on you, but also his hands

- he runs his fingers over the black squares, touching your skin and giving you goose bumps

- at the beginning he found your reaction to his touch cute, now he finds it endearing

Mick:

- this big man loves to kiss you

- it looks quite funny when you wear chains with spikes

- he bends down to you and cups your jaw lovingly as if you were fragile

- at the same time he touches your chain and gets pricked

- he slowly lets his gaze wander from your eyes, over your beautiful face and then finally to your necklace

- he exhales as he pushes his hand further up to your cheek, so high that his arm no longer touches the spikes, bending his arms more, pulling them away from you

- you grin innocently and lean against him

- He releases a hand from your cheek, caresses your waist, he leans to your ear and whispers. "I can't wait to rip that chain off your neck." As he says this he is careful not to get too close to your neck, you blush

- Mick spreads light kisses from your cheek to your lips, in between he pulls away. "I love when you blush."

Corey:

- when you get ready you listen to metal songs

- Corey, who is usually in the room right next to you, hears the music come on

- he waits a moment for you to put on your clothes, you already sing along with the music

- after a short time he comes rushing into your room, all excited

- he loves to sing with you (roar with you)

- often the whole situation drags out from just dressing up, a kind of duet emerges

- despite everything you try to pick out suitable jewelry for your look

- singing Corey points at bracelets, necklaces and belts, suggests them to you

- now and then you take it and hold it to your body, sometimes you take it, sometimes you put it back in its place

- eventually you've done it and you're all dressed up

- you want to turn off the music but Corey holds you back. "One more song. Please?" He doesn't want the time with you to end

- you nod and together you sing at the top of your lungs, with as much emotion as you can muster

Structure Brief

Our structure brief explores the world of architectural photography. It requires us to research and analyse architects work and how to photograph their work to show their vision.

Chris Humphreys

Firstly I wanted to talk about Chris Humphreys based in Edinburgh. I began my research close to home and looked for local photographers who specialise in architecture. Chris Humphreys has been a trusted photographer for architects, interior designers, construction companies and developers for over 10 years. As well as being a professional photographer, he has been a qualified architect for over 25 year, working in Scotland. Having the creative skills and knowledge of both areas means he has a further developed understanding of how to complete projects in the best possible way. 

‘Chris believes that good architectural photography is not just about documenting spaces, but capturing the design intent behind the space.’

Architecture photography is all about: composition, lighting, detail.

Chris works mainly with natural and ambient light. 

I chose the below photograph of Chris’ to speak upon as I was attracted to the warm colours. Here Chris has thought about the buildings connection to it’s environment and clearly done the right planning to catch the weather at the correct time, capturing tones of pink, blue and yellow in the sky. The warm yellow glow from inside the building provides a homely and inviting appearance. The building is called Whitehouse Lodge in Isle of Coll and I imagine Chris was commissioned to photograph the home for promotional purposes, to invite people to come and rent out the lodge for holidays. The photograph has been shot with a wide angle lens, showing off the spacious, empty landscape surrounding the lodge. 

Iwan Baan

Iwan Baan is a Dutch photographer, born just outside Amsterdam and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Iwan’s images are known primarily to narrate the life and interactions are occur within architecture. 

The below image is of the Arbre Blanc building in Montpellier in France. In 2013, the city council sought to built a ‘beacon tower’ to enrich the city’s architectural heritage. The building is comprised of homes and shops. 

The building is very striking with square platforms protruding all up the sides. Iwan Bann has done a good job at photographing the building at the right time of day with appropriate weather conditions so that the sky compliments the building. The photograph has a pale blue and white wash which gives a feeling of delicacy and peacefulness. Baan has successfully captured the abstractness of the building.

Paul Clemence

Paul Clemence is a photographer and artist born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but now lives and works in New York. He explores the areas of design, art and architecture. I came across his work from an article on designboom.com, which has a whole section on architecture. The article was covering his project photographing Thomas Heatherwick’s design ‘Lantern House’ in New York. The structure has a unique bubble/pod appearance, comprised of different levels and sections. The below image shows the building as a whole, capturing all parts of the structure. Heatherwick’s design was inspired by the areas maritime warehouses and industrial heritage. I think Clemence has captured the full structure well, while keeping the vertical parallel lines straight. Lines are important in design and architecture photography as they move the eye through the photograph. The green hinted glass windows of the structure are complimented by the blue sky. 

Lucien Herve

Lucien Herve was a Hungarian/French photographer, known for his architectural work. Throughout his career he worked closely with architect Le Corbusier, who designed the below structure named ‘Unité d'Habitation’. Herve went to visit the structure and supposedly took 650 photographs of it that day. 

The geometric photograph below is full of texture and shapes. The vertical lines are straight and the stone of the structure frames the image well. The way that the light is shining through the stone to create the contrasting shadows allows our eyes to flow through the image. The use of light and shadow compliments the strong structure and the textured surface of the walls. The building is a bold, large structure and Herve captured the light that reenforces it’s build.

I came across this image on the website Eye-em, who hosted a competition on minimalism architecture photography. The below image is by an Italian photographer named Barbara Spaggiari. Firstly I would like to compliment the soft pastel tones. The blue and yellow compliment eachother well. The minimalist photograph is composed well, with the vertical lines remaining straight. The soft shadow in the bottom left corner is a nice touch to tell us the direction of light and so that the image isn’t too flat. 

Adrià Goula Sardà

The building below was designed by architects Nomo Studio. The structure was commissioned to be built into a summer villa, in amongst an archaeological site. The unique build of the building is a result of several factors, including a steep gradient on the land and there were areas of the archaeological site that were to be conserved. The walls are curved and the ceilings arched, as to avoid the protected areas while remaining to maximise the structures space. The whole interior is open plan with large windows, as to give the perception of space. To maximise the light that entered the building, which reflects how big the building feels. The photograph below was taken by Adria Goula Sarda, who originally trained and studied as an architect before years later settling in architecture photography. I think the perspective and position that the photograph is taken front highlights the quirky shape of the building. There is a nice clean lit sky, the whole scene feels calm and serene. I think keeping the steps in the frame allows our eyes to be lead up the photo and to the main structure.

I found this project and photographer from the Nono Studio website. 

The photograph below is the interior of a music school in Portugal, designed by the architect firm Aurora Arquitectos. The image was taken by someone in their team, but beautifully shows the design and texture within. The floor to ceiling windows giving way for the sun beams across the floor. The structure was built as a connector between two buildings that were part of the music school. The colourful space in between was made as a relaxation space for rest in between classes. The bright colours are sure to inspire and motivate the mind. The composition of the photograph allows us to see the texture and intricacy of the patterned ceiling and the clean, smooth tonal floor, both contrasting one another while working in harmony. The centre of the windows where both side meet in the middle is centre of the image which brings balance. The sun flooring in the right hand side of the windows allows us to see that the space is home for a lot of natural light. The photograph taken at this time offers some more contrast. It is true our environments have a impact on our performance, and this light, colourful space with lots of different shapes present, provides excitement and positivity for the mind. Important for a place that houses the creation of music and art.

David Goldblatt

David was a south African photographer whose work largely focused on landscape and architecture in Johannesburg during the apartheid era. He documented the realities of apartheid during that time, and how it influenced the cities architecture. Goldblatt commonly worked in monochrome throughout his career but come the 1990′s starting exploring the world of colour. The image below is titled ‘Incomplete Houses’ and was a development of 1000 houses that was stalled for many years. It took three years to complete 430 of the 1000 houses. There were many reasons for the delay in completion; lack of funds, theft of materials, shortage of water, issues with sewage disposal. The image was taken August 6th, 2006. I think Goldblatt has captured the incomplete, empty feeling within the photograph. A desolated land with a washed over sky. Photographing this landscape on a day where there is no bright sun or contrasting shadows which can bring drama or character to the land, emphasises it’s emptiness and stillness. 

Below is another photograph by Goldblatt taken in ‘86. It is a Dutch Reformed Church. The image is very striking with the structures dramatic design. The stone building bares little windows or areas in which to access inside the church. Goldblatt spoke about churches that were built during the apartheid and said of them being defensive. Emphasising the race separation during that time. 

I think tonally the photograph is beautiful. The flowing lines of the structure and monochrome stone blending with the cloudy sky. The whole front of the structure is shown, showing us the peculiar build. The light is soft, no harsh or hard shadows are present. I scene feels still. Nobody in site and no insight into what is beyond the walls of the church. It is a structure of privacy. 

Hélène Binet

Helene Binet was born in Switzerland but is based in London and is a famous architecture photographer. The below image is of the Hedmark Museum in Norway designed by architect Sverre Fehn. The photograph was taken in 2009 and the building was built in 1971. 

Binet speaks a lot about the 3rd dimension when speaking about photography. She does not photograph things but tries to show and experience different dimensions. 

The photograph has some beautiful shape and soft light. We have the vertical lines perfectly straight, which is important within architecture. The curved lines cutting across the centre of the image keeps our eyes exploring around the photograph and creates flow. The light falling on the floor gives a smooth complexion and hits the walls beautifully showing the texture of the stone work. The photograph is a beautiful example of a well executed, thought out image that compliments the structure.

Darkcell: Advance Australia’s Scare

I’ve been listening to Darkcell since the day I found out that their lead singer, Jesse Dracman, is my cousin. As an early metalhead, starting his exploration into the endless subgenres of Metal, having a close relative immersed in the metal scene was a source of inspiration which ignited my passion for everything music.

Conjuring up a following of ‘witches, beasts and freaks’ through their dark, horror movie-like imagery and self-proclaimed ‘gothic shock-rock’ performances, Darkcell have unearthed the wicked side of the Australian metal scene, and creating their own niche fanbase. This has shot the band into popularity, nationally and internationally, with a 2014 Soundwave appearance, American tour supporting Ill Nino, and European tour back in June.

After 3 albums, an EP, and a remix of one of their earlier works, Darkcell’s fourth, self-titled studio album reveals the bands ability to produce high energy content, and keep it creepy at the same time, with songs like Reign Of Monsters and Hail To the Freaks - an anthem glorifying the band’s fanbase (a.k.a ‘Army Of Darkness’), and their eerie aesthetic.

The album features performances from popular musicians including Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle Of Filth), KidCrusher, and Tim Skold (Marylin Manson), a remarkable and well-deserved line-up for an Australian metal band to have on an album expressing their talent at their fullest.

I spoke with Jesse as he was making his way to a rehearsal for a Korn covers gig, and asked him about his personal reflection of the album:

‘We definitely knew that we recorded our most definitive album to date. Would I go as far to say it’s my best album? I don’t know. I don’t know if such a thing exists. That’s how an artist works, they’re always striving to improve and grow.’

I continued on to ask how he felt about collaborating with Lindsay Schoolcraft from Cradle of Filth, and Tim Skold, who had worked with Marylin Manson and Motionless In White:

To be honest, honoured, and extremely grateful that they were more than happy to be a part of it. It happened quite easier than what we thought, because Tim [Skold] was actually a fan - having previously done a remix for us. Lindsay [Schoolcraft] was a fan also, so it was quite simple to get them on board. Just hearing them say that they were fans was just awesome.

He mentioned an unexpected, and rather unique piece of advice given to the band by ex-Slipknot member, Chris Fehn:

‘…he was quite vocal about his admiration for the band, and what we were doing. When he heard the early demos for the new album. He was excited, but he kind of gave us an awakening of sorts. He threw a challenge at us and made us rethink what we were doing – how we were approaching the process.’

After a successful album tour around Australia in May, Darkcell are hitting the road again in October, supporting American Industrial Metal outfit, Combichrist, in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Jesse expresses his excitement towards the gig, explaining the bands long relationship with Combichrist

We’ve known Andy (Combichrist) – on and off – since our debut. We actually played our first ever show supporting Combichrist. It’s humbling knowing that Andy wanted us specifically on this tour. I just hope that people don’t miss out on this show, because it’s gonna be a killer show.

Jim:

-You ring the doorbell at his house. Jim opens the door for you

- As soon as you see him you can't help yourself and start sobbing

- "Hey hey. Everything is fine." He says and takes you gently in his arms. He moves back slightly while you are still in his arms and closes the door behind you

- after a short time you separate from each other and walk into the living room

- "What happened?" Jim asks you. "I can't do this anymore." You say and start sobbing again "Come here. Had a hard week?" He asks you as you snuggle up to him

-You just nod in response. Jim puts his hand on the back of your head and pulls you closer to his chest

- After you have calmed down, you take your head off Jim's chest and look up at him. "May I stay here with you today?"

- "Of course you can." "Thank you. Can we watch a movie? To distract me?" "Sure. Your favorite movie?"

- You nod. Jim breaks away from you to start the movie. But then he joins you again

This is clearly the natural progression from my last Knot review.

So how this is gonna go is, Slipknot are Touring during the Iowa Cycle. Tonight's show is in Gotham City. On the way to the venue, Several things go Awry.

Stepping off the buss, Sid is immediately reeking of weed. Batman Took a D.A.R.E. course in grade school and knows that saying 'no to drugs' is Cool. Sid is Taken down With a Swift kick to the back of the Legs. He does not put up a fight.

A few of the Men showed up Early to get a closer look without all the supervision. While the others were busy looking around, Paul was digging inside a Silver closet.

In that moment, the back wall shifted.

Batman emerged from the Shadows.

He'd heard of this new guy from the locals but didn't Quite believe the legends.

He introduced himself.

Batman Swiftly Tased him.

3. Chris Fehn

Stuck in Gotham due to harsh weather conditions, Chris found himself Playing Golf with The Social Elites. Alfred was in attendance that day, a rare day off from watching his Man Child Subordinate.

On a particular stressful hole, Alfred found himself glancing around, quickly spotting the long-nosed mask.

Chris was Jerking his nose nervously.

Seeing an older, clearly more experienced man struggle with the course was not a good sign of things to come. Had his mask been unzipped, he'd be biting his fingernails in anticipation.

Alfred doesn't like the way this guy is looking at him and making obscene Gestures.

After the game is over, he informs Bruce.

Chris is taken out from behind.

He lands one punch Batman's collar bone before he gets absolutely Folded.

On the night of the show, Jim went into Gotham town Square To get a few Supplies (Tape and Beer).

Walking through the dim Streets, He happened upon a Robbery in progress.

Being a man of Substantial build, He Stepped in.

Taking the Purse from the Would-be Robber just as Batman pulled up.

Using his expert Detective skills, Jim was Obviously the robber and it definitely was NOT the guy running down the alley.

Batman begins his Assault.

Jim put up a good fight, his Ultimate Downfall being a nightstick to the Neck.

Eventually he was thwarted by the Shark Repellant. It has some sort of chloroform like Agent in it.

7. Mick Thomson

Once again just going with the mask name because it fits.

Trying to avoid the general public, Mick Found himself in a Quaint bar in the Narrows.

Unbeknownst to him, famed Kingpin Penguin had been tracking the band since they arrived in the city and was Currently approaching the Man.

"Long Night?" A hefty man sat on the stool Beside him. Mick grunted in agreement.

"Do you have a pen?"

Mick was getting Aggravated, he wanted to be left alone, Not sign autographs. Does it look like he has a fucking pen.

A disheveled looking Batman stubbles out of the bathroom at the same moment Mick stands up from the bar.

Penguin claps him on the back. "Maybe next time Micky."

Cobblepot in Cahoots with Slipknot? Time to step in and save the Day.

Mick Simply walks out of the bar before Batman can even think about an approach tactic.

Corey put up a fight to keep his friend from being beaten up. He jumped on The Bat's Back and tried to draw as much attention as possible to the scene.

He escaped this encounter relatively unharmed.

Taking note of Where his bandages had last been seen, he made it his Duty to get revenge on The Batman.
