remember how people kept saying that the biggest threat to JangChae was Ryang Eum (the 'snake' and 'two faced homosexual [yes literally saw those words in a comment before it had gotten deleted in the MDL comment section for other unsavory remarks made about the other actors. i can call my son and myself a homosexual bc we are one but not like how they were trying to convey it tyvm]') and Gak Hwa/Qing Princess (the Jang Hyun obsessed bounty hunter who has a choking kink) but the actual threat turned out to be the straight men (Mr. F*ckass General Ex, the f*ckass king and newly minted f*ckass husband Yeon Joon) bc they weren't sh*t and a half. funny how that happened

some plots/dynamics i would love to have under the cut. like and i'll message you about making us a starter maybe? or plotting things out if that's your jam
always up for (and prefer) making any of the things f/f, but otherwise fine with whatever; put some muse ideas to use in it, but always up for using someone else or making someone new !
joe g*ldberg x love qu*nn dynamic from you; or a toxic and dangerous couple with murderous tendencies. can be obsessed with each other, one could be straying and the other is pissed about it, or they can not know (or one not know) about what the other is actually like ↪ wouldn't mind using: samantha (ana de armas), sinn (davika hoorne), freja (rebecca ferguson), wren (ben barnes)
polyships; give me a couple in love with their best friend or maybe best friends that are always on the verge of being more and then both end up liking the same person or frenemies/rivals that go after the same person ↪ wouldn't mind using: elizabeth (reina hardesty), jasper (alex fitzalan), noah (zoey deutch), tori (kim yoo jung), belinda (havana rose liu), daria (jessie mei li),
ancient / immortal being and a time traveler that keep running into each other throughout different periods of history ↪ wouldn't mind using: androméda (marisol nichols), anele (gugu mbatha-raw), tereza (angela sarafyan), liam chung (henry golding)
nerd x popular; more so just from this → i should be riding some nerd’s thigh while he gropes all over my body & tells me i’m the girl on his dreams ↪ wouldn't mind using: ye-jun (song kang), chan-yeol (lee dohyun), daria (jessie mei li), holly (abigail cowen), raven (tati gabrielle), belinda (havana rose liu), kenny (fivel stewart), eden (willa fitzgerald), jia (han so-hee)
all the horror related things pls and thanks; being haunted, someone going after them, killer x target, killers duo or killers competing against each other ↪ wouldn't mind using: camilla (amanda seyfried), cora (kim go-eun), florence (brianne howey), jonah (olivia cooke), joo won (choi sooyoung), priscilla (kate siegel), samantha (ana de armas), sinn (davika hoorne), alex (maggie q), bernie (halston sage), edie (rachel weisz), yu-mi (seo yeji), jane (melissa barrera), melanie (song jihyo), tereza (angela sarafyan), willow (victoria pedretti)
someone give me “you live in the apartment across the hall and you’re so fucking hot but i get so awkward around you even though you act completely normal and i stutter every. time. you’re out of my league anyway but then one night my stupid roommate locks me out and i forget my key and you see me sitting the hallway so you invite me in. and obviously i say yes but holy crap what is happening” plot pretty pls ↪ wouldn't mind using: zoey (adelaide kane), raven (tati gabrielle), presley (samara weaving), cassandra (vanessa kirby), barbara (suki waterhouse), tasmin (jessica alba), sebastian (felix mallard), mj (shin hye-sun), lucy (amy adams), ye-jun (song kang), ezmeray (demet özdemir), elizabeth (gemma chan), carmen (kylie bunbury), caria (melisa pamuk), adrian (seo kang joon)

Parasite (2019)
Tumblr media
Parasite is the kind of wholly original film that’s impossible to predict. It also has a lot to say about our world, which means there’s no way you’ll be able to catch everything on a single viewing. With plenty of dark laughs, the kind of suspense that will have your stomach in knots, an ending that sticks with you and masterful direction by Bong Joon-ho, it’ll knock you right off your feet - even if you’ve seen it before.
Kim Ki-taek (Song Kang-ho), his wife Chung-sook (Jang Hye-jin), their son Ki-woo (Choi Woo-shik) and daughter Ki-jeong (Park So-dam) make ends meet by snatching up whatever prospect comes their way. One day, Ki-woo finds a job tutoring Da-hye (Jung Ji-so), the daughter of the wealthy Park family. Sensing an opportunity, the Kims scheme, lie and fake their way into the household.
Part of what makes Parasite such a wild ride is that you never know who you should be cheering for or what the movie wants you to feel. When we first meet the Kim family, they’re scrambling around their dump of a semi-basement apartment looking for a free wifi signal so they can get a shipment of pizza boxes sent to them. Folding the boxes is how they’ll pay for their next meal. When they submit their work, part of their earnings is deducted because 25% of the boxes are badly folded. There are four family members. A quarter of the boxes are no good. Hmmm… There’s something funny and pathetic about the way they manage to screw up such a simple, honest job but excel at conning their way into the Park household. The more elaborate and extravagant their scam becomes, the more they thrive. You know it’s wrong, but there’s something "admirable" about their resourcefulness and determination. You don’t feel too bad for the Park family. Aside from Ki-jeong, everyone is actually doing the job they’ve been hired to do and there’s no way she’d get away with spinning her bullshit into dollars if Mrs. Park wasn’t such a dummy.
Then, your feelings about the Kims start changing. It’s one thing for them to exploit the Parks, whose wealth is wasted on them but this quest to get all of them on the same payroll means taking away jobs from other people. As we eventually find out, the current housekeeper of the Park family, Gook Moon-gwang (Lee Jung-eun) REALLY needs this job they’re stealing from her. As the film progresses, Bong Joon-ho shows us how the lap of luxury has made the Parks into ugly, entitled snobs. The more we see of the parents (Lee Sun-kyun and Cho Yeo-jeong), the less we like them. The thing is, the Kims are not much better. They’re also recklessly gobbling up the jobs in their employer’s household at the expense of everyone else. The people currently employed? they’re obstacles to be toppled over, not people with similar plights to their own. They never have a goal to make enough money to move into a nicer home. Their goal becomes to have THIS home, a building they know is too much for two parents and two children. While all of these people are on opposite ends of the financial spectrum, they both disregard others equally.
It would be criminal to give away the big surprises that come at the end of the film - and you probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you what they were anyway. Revealing all the intricacies of the scam would be just as heinous. The proof is that even upon multiple viewings, it’s a horrifying delight to see it play out the way it does. I do want to discuss the very very last scene, however. In the film, it’s presented as hopeful, a long-term strategy Ki-woo will follow to get the family what they desire the most. It all seems good but when you take a step back, you realize how hopeless it is. That final moment is about how wide a gap is between the rich and the poor. It's not about leaving us with a smile on our faces. It’s not as clear as it would be in a documentary but it’s a thousand times more impactful - and entertaining.
Parasite is mesmerizing, the kind of film you want to watch over and over so you can fully appreciate everything. It’s full of surprises, masterfully directed and certainly as good as everyone is saying it is. (Original Korean with English Subtitles, July 25, 2022)

So I was making a list of who I think should/ would be nominated for the Oscars this year and I put Martin Scorsese, Celine Song, Todd Haynes, Greta Gerwig and Justine Triet as my picks for best director. When my sister saw it she said that they are too many women on the list for it to be realistic. And then that made go down the rabbit hole of checking the list of Academy Awards for best directing because I was curious which year did the first female director win an Oscar.
Tumblr media
Woah. 2009? 70 years after the first ceremony? Crazy. So then I decided to check how many women were even nominated.
Seven. Throughout 96 years of its existence the Academy nominated seven women for best directing:
- Lina Wertmüller for Seven Beauties in 1975
- Jane Campion for The Piano in 1993
- Sofia Coppola for Lost In Translation in 2003
- Kathryn Bigelow who won for The Hurt Locker in 2009
- Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird in 2017
- Emerald Fennel for Promising Young Woman in 2021
- Chloé Zhao who won for Nomadland, also in 2021.
Jane Campion was nominated again for The Power of the Dog in 2022 and won, making her the only double nominee in this group and the third woman to win best director.
I decided to check some other numbers from the list just to illustrate how ridiculous that number is.
Just in the first 10 ceremonies 7 Oscars went to guys named Frank (Frank Borzage, Frank Lloyd and Frank Capra). They were nominated 9 times in that period. Overall they got 12 nominations throughout the Academy's history. Guys named William got 18 Oscar nominations over the years (12 for Wyler alone).
Actually, let's stop there. Here are all the men who got nominated more or as many times as all the women:
- William Wyler (12)
- Martin Scorsese (9)
- Steven Spielberg (9)
- Billy Wilder (8).
And that's not to say that they didn't deserve these nominations of course. But when there are numerous individual men who got nominated more times than the entire other half of the population you can't really blame it on anything else than the Academy's biases and discrimination.
And that discrimination doesn't end with the Academy, of course. Celine Sciamma's phenomenal Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which ranked 30th on Sight and Sound's list of best movies of all time, didn't even get a chance to get nominated, because French Film Institute chose to campaign another adaptation of Les Miserables instead.
The discrimination doesn't end on gender. When it comes to people of color the Academy also isn't particularly generous. No black woman was ever nominated for best director. 6 black men were nominated:
- John Singleton for Boyz n the Hood in 1991
- Lee Daniels for Precious in 2009
- Steve McQueen for 12 Years a Slave in 2013
- Barry Jenkins for Moonlight in 2016
- Jordan Peele for Get Out in 2017
- Spike Lee for BlacKkKlansman in 2018
10 Asians/ Asian Americans were nominated 13 times over the years:
- Hiroshi Teshigahara for Woman in the Dunes in 1965
- Akira Kurosawa for Ran in 1985 (a total travesty that he never won in that category)
- Terrence Malick for The Thin Red Line in 1998 and The Tree Of Life in 2011
- M. Night Shyamalan for The Sixth Sense in 1999
- Ang Lee for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000, Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and Life Of Pi in 2012 (he won for the latter two)
- Bong Joon-Ho for Parasite in 2019
- Lee Isaac Chung for Minari in 2020
- Chloé Zhao for Nomadland in 2020 (the only woman of color who won in the category)
- Ryusuke Hamaguchi for Drive My Car in 2021
- Daniel Kwan for Everything Everywhere All At Once in 2022.
5 Latin Americans were nominated 8 times. It got a bit murky here, since that's not really a racial category. I couldn't find a different list than that anywhere, so I had to play a little elimination game. I wouldn't count Guillermo del Toro. Héctor Babenco is apparently a son of Polish and Ukrainian Jews. And I'm pretty sure Fernando Meirelles wouldn't count either. So that leaves us with:
- Alejandro González Iñárritu for Babel in 2006, Birdman in 2014 and The Revenant in 2015
- maybe Alfonso Cuarón for Gravity in 2013 and Roma in 2018 - won both times (fun fact about Roma, the hype for it was so big in Poland that I always assumed it was a polish movie, until I actually watched it around 2021 when I got more into film). Though his case is where we can fully see how much of a social concept race is, since he simultaneously says that he grew up as a white man and his win for Roma was applauded as a diversity win in the Academy circles.
No Native American was ever nominated for Best Director.
I don't know what the point of this post is. I guess I knew that Oscars were a white sausage fest but I never checked the numbers to see just how much, and Best Director might just be the worst category in that regard.
So if you're placing bets on the Oscars, I guess it'll be safer to just pick 5 random white guys for best director, instead of going by the quality of the movies themselves.
I'd love to see Celine Song win for her beautiful debut, or Greta Gerwig for the biggest movie of 2023 and because she is one of my favorite directors ever, but that may be hard since we had a few years in a row where either women or people of color won in this category, so the old hacks responsible for the choices are probably dying to pick another white guy.

All of us are Dead. 7.6/10
I would recommend this drama to my friends. I wouldn't rewatch this drama.
I only really know Lee Kyu Hyung from Prison Playbook, so seeing him in this role, he's kinda hot. The archers are cool, hot damn. Ha Ri is my fav character. The archers in general. Okay, but the mouse was kinda cute before it went crazy. Omg that crawl slide on the hospital floor is legendary. The real chemistry is between Su Hyeok and Chung San. Bro the knife toss at Chung San was crazy. The library parkour was fun to watch. I would love a dad like Nam So Ju who is that committed to his values. Also, once he got dressed in black and got that gun, he got kinda hot. Honestly, Dae Su would be nice to have around. He's like committed to fighting, is real and honest, is entertaining, and is just a lovely fellow. Soo Hyuk is actually p good at fighting ngl.
The bullies making the girl undress immediately balled up my fists. My patience would be so tested in this setting. I'd be so fed up with anyone who gets in my way. I also can't with people who lie about the sickness. Like people lie all the time about being sick, but this one is deathly and contagious?? My anger boiled again when Eun Ji was having her bullying flashbacks.
So many things are happening on this day at this one school regardless of the zombies. I can't believe no one chose to go to the rooftop initially. It doesn't even make sense that zombies have such good hearing and can't find them that easily. I feel like all these zombies are moving very ineffectively, but also the one that didn't listen to the music, was moving so effectively. I do not need a guy like Chung San to like me. He's so inexpressive. I get that he's in high school, but still. The uniforms are really giving me team Slytherin. I honestly don't know if I could overcome the trauma of witnessing a loved one of mine becoming a zombie. I would cry if someone said to me what Ha Ri said to On Jo about her dad going to heaven. That's like so kind to hear. I cried a good chunk.
Poor Chun San's mom. God, I feel for Mi Jin when she loses Joon Sung.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as well, I suppose. What would someone like you even know about construction anyway?
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
Dad, you don’t have to-
Tumblr media
Ayato-kun, tell me something: you ever heard of the Sampoong Department Store?
Tumblr media
What?
Tumblr media
Simple question: have you heard of it?
Tumblr media
No, but what’s that have to do with-
Tumblr media
Sampoong Department Store was built in Seoul from 1987-89. Just like us, they were in the middle of an economic boom, but they actually banned international contractors. Only South Korean construction companies were allowed to take part in the city’s rapid urbanization.
Tumblr media
And they stretched those companies to the breaking point to take advantage of the boom and the coming 1988 Olympics.
Tumblr media
The original plan was to make a four-story apartment block, but the head of the Sampoong Group decided to change the plans and make it a department store. In the process, they made a ton of adjustments to the blueprints, and thus a lot of horrible errors.
Tumblr media
The building didn’t have a steel skeleton. Instead, the pillars directly supported the concrete floors in what’s called flat slab construction. It’s cheaper, easier and faster, but it relies on the strength of the supports.
Tumblr media
What they originally planned to use were pillars that were 80cm diameter concrete pillars, each with sixteen 22mm steel support rods. But to make room for the new escalators for the department store, eight of the pillars were reduced to 60cm and only had eight support rods.
Tumblr media
The contractor they hired complained about this, and so Sampoong group fired them and finished it themselves. After that, they added a fifth floor with a food court and heavy underfloor heating pipes, which strained the building 50% beyond the support pillars’ capacity.
Tumblr media
The supports which, by the way, were unevenly distributed. To make matters worse, they added a 45-ton load on the roof with a set of three massive air conditioning units. Ones that generated vibrations that rattled the pillars even more, and all this was only made worse when someone decided to move them across the roof by literally dragging them.
Tumblr media
Alright, but what does that have to do with-
Tumblr media
June 29th, 1995. People were complaining about it all day, warning the managers and owner, but they kept it open and refused to evacuate. Because of that, 502 people were killed and 937 were injured when the overstressed fifth floor collapsed under the air conditioning units, and the whole thing pancaked in on itself.
Tumblr media
There were people buried under the rubble for days. One of them was a 16-year-old girl, Park Sung Hyon, who was buried down there for sixteen days. The fact that she survived is a miracle.
Tumblr media
So you read about this?
Tumblr media
Read about it? Who do you think they called on for the investigation?
Tumblr media
What...?
Tumblr media
I mean, I can’t take all the credit. It was mostly the on-site personnel who did the work, and I gave them my opinions, studied the blueprints and compared the changes made during its construction.
Tumblr media
I even got to talk to Professor Lan Chung, the head of the investigation. Smart guy, definitely the kind of person you should hire for this sort of thing.
Tumblr media
And you wanna know what happened there? Greed. Every sensible person told them this thing was a deathtrap, but the Sampoong Group kept it going and kept it open.
Tumblr media
And guess what? On December 27th, Sampoong’s Chairman, Lee Joon, and his son and the CEO, Lan Han-sang, were both tried, convicted and sentenced to several years in prison for the whole thing.
Tumblr media
That investigation also found widespread fraud and corruption, and they even indicted 12 city officials. In the aftermath, rigorous inspections took place across the country, and they found that 1 in 7 high-rises needed rebuilding, and 4 out of 5 needed major repairs.
Tumblr media
So yeah, maybe I was a small part, but I like to think I played a role in helping make a whole country safer.
Tumblr media
After all, they trusted me enough to ask for some insight after I graduated.
Tumblr media
Maybe if you’d actually come to class with us, you would’ve seen that. Or were you also too busy making money to pay attention to the obvious?
*Hitoshi grabs a glass off the table, chugs the whole thing and slams it back upside-down*
Tumblr media
Either way, nice chatting.
*With that, Hitoshi rolls himself off*

Little Forest (2018)
The Villainess (2017)
The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008)
Right Now, Wrong Then (2015)
Right Now, Wrong Then is a great pick if you're in the mood for a more quiet, contemplative drama. This highly acclaimed film from celebrated director Hong Sang-Soo tells the story of a chance encounter between a celebrated art film director and a young painter.
Train to Busan (2016)
My Sassy Girl (2001)
Memories of Murder (2003)
The Beauty Inside (2015)
The Wailing (2016)
Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure (2022)
Oldboy (2003)
The Handmaiden (2016)

SONG SEO-JOON (LEE JUNHO) IS LOOKING FOR...
Connection: Siblings (0/3)
Suggested Name: Family name is Song, given name UTP
Age Range: UTP
Species: Witch preferably, but could be a vampire or a wolf if they were turned
Suggested FCs: Any Korean fc (including mixed fcs that are half-korean), but some suggestions include- Daniel Henney, Alex Landi, Bae Suzy, Cha Eun-woo, Hwang In-Yeop, Jamie Chung, Lee Do-Hyun, Sang-Heon Lee, Im Jinah/Nana, Kim Se Jeong etc.
Connection Description:
Everyone in the Song family is successful in their own right, except for Seo-Joon. Their family is also incredibly rich. Their grandfather, Song Sang-Hoon, founded King Enterprises, a startup that would become the well-known medical and tech conglomerate it is today, being known for its skincare, cosmetics and medicine with recent interests in hospitality and aviation.
His step-mother is a famous model (who either is your character's step mom as well or their biological mother depending on their FC) and the face of King Cosmetics, and his father is a well-known director. Both dominated their social circles and were often far too busy jet setting around the world, speaking at conferences, and acting as prominent witches within the Lunar Cove coven to visit their son growing up in NYC all on his own.
While his siblings (12 of them- with only 3 being playable), all of varying different ages, managed to find their niches at one point or another.
I'm super open to determining how your character is successful in their fam- they could have not been the best at school, but now is an up and coming painter. They could be the 'perfect' parent with a seemingly perfect family. They could be an innovative architect who is trying to convince their grandfather to invest in a new line of hotels which they're working to design. They could be a model, a singer, a Soap star etc. Someone on the 30 under 30 list. I'd love for one of the siblings to be a manager of the Hospital or the new manager of K Labs (having taken over Seon-Joon's positiong after Seo-Joon went missing) etc.
Your character was born a witch and their parents weren't the type to put a ton of pressure on them. They were the hands off type and were more than happy to encourage their children to try whatever interested them, even if they often would send a bouquet of flowers to their child’s dance recital rather than appear in person. But, they had never been strict or overbearing and, yet, every single member of the family managed to thrive in some capacity except Seo-Joon.
But, while the parents didn't pressure on them, the siblings would compete between themselves and their parents would give more attention to those who succeeded and those who honed their powers as a witch given that being a witch was well revered in their family.
While your charrie grew up in Lunar Cove, Seo-Joon was raised by nannies in NYC after it became clear that he was the only human in their witch family. They grew up knowing that it wasn't safe for Seo-Joon to be surrounded by so much magic given they were human. The family didn't mean to isolate Seo-Joon. They simply wanted to keep him safe and give him the freedom to be able to travel the world rather than being physically trapped in Lunar Cove, but slowly your characters would be invited more and more of magic related trips while Seo-Joon received a sympathetic look in passing that felt more like an afterthought than he’d care to admit. It was almost as if after his abilities never came in and his grades at school continued to remain mediocre at best, they had given up on expecting anything from him which only seemed to be solidified when it came time for college.
The family bought a building at NYU to secure his place at a university as they did for a few of their other children who didn't make it into Ivy Leagues on their own. But, when Seo-Joon got car crash tw hit by a taxi in the city, his family became worried about his safety wondering if Lunar Cove might actually be safer for him than on his own.
After college, their parents made the decision without Seo-Joon's input that the safest place for him was the Cove where he'd be forced to stay for the rest of his life unless he wanted to risk losing his memories pertaining to magic. Your charrie could leave LC as much as they'd like, traveling around, while Seo-Joon was forced to stay. You watched the joy in your brother's eyes fade as they were given the position as manager at K Labs, despite being far from qualified for it, by their grandfather. His family had only tossed the underfunded research lab his way in an attempt to keep him out of trouble. It wasn’t as if they actually paid any mind to what him or the scientists who worked there were up to. But, by a strand of dumb luck, his team ended up creating one of the most exponential achievements in supernatural research due to his own incompetence.
Only the moment K Labs was turned around, Seo-Joon vanished. You believed he skipped town and would text his phone to get short winded answers. Your charrie could have been worried for his sake or resented him for leaving without a word. Only eight months later, your charrie has learned that he's alive and was kidnapped tw by the Catalyst this entire time.
Seo-Joon also goes by the nickname Song with people he's not close to, but your bby would likely go by their given name around everyone and, likely, would call Seo-Joon by his given name too.
I'd be happy to plot out more about our bbies- was your charrie the sibling who moved into the beach house he was living in before being kidnapped? What was their dynamic like growing up? Were they close? More distant etc.
