How to start an agere journal _ ( helpful tips ) + Making my own!

Designing the journal itself

Choose a Journal: The most important thing is that your journal is *YOU* comfortable! Which means that the idea and theme of your journal makes you comfortable and happy. it doesn't matter the palette or design, as long as it makes you happy.

Use Fun Supplies: Crayons, markers, pastel pens, and stickers make journaling more fun and little-friendly!

Section It Off: Create sections for different things! this means sectioning it into smaller groups of pages like sticker pages, drawings, daily logs, stuffies & char. profiles, fun lists & ideas, etc!

Make It Cozy: Journal in a comfy spot with a soft blanket, stuffies, and maybe a sippy cup or warm drink!

Use Stickers & Doodles: If writing feels too big, use stickers or draw simple pictures to express your feelings.

Prompts and ideas!

Daily--

What made you feel little today?

What was your favorite thing to do today?

Did anything make you feel small and happy today?

What is your little age today? How does it feel?

How did your day go? Did you make any new friends?

Draw a daily face of how your day went (IE. sad, happy, embarrassing..)

Draw or decorate a page with stickers of your favorite babycore things!

Design a dream nursery/playroom and describe what would be inside.

First of all... what's an agere journal?

Great question! it's a few things really (or whatever you want it to be)

It can be a journal you can use when you regress, just so you can draw and do fun activities! mostly for artistic littles who like to make and draw :3 Or it can be a journal full of information on regression, specify your regression. listing stuff like what you do when little, your favoruite things, your boundaries. these are usually made for littles to give to their caregivers. or it can be both!

take books you enjoy reading when small

sometimes, you can take a pacifier in a bag/pocket and ask to go to the restroom (or councilor) for a break. You can use the binky when taking your break.

get up and walk around if the teacher allows it!

take cool pens & pencils, with fancy designs.

decorate your ID! You can do this by putting stickers in the back if the case is fully see-through, or by coloring on the case!

[it should be noted that everyone experiences different symptoms/has different needs; i'll be focusing on sensory issues and chronic pain in this guide]

Be understanding !

It's important to remember for both caregivers and regressors that while something's may not make sense to us- that doesn't mean you can't be understanding.

You might not be able to feel the difference in fabric textures but your little/cg can.

Your legs might not hurt after walking short distances, but your little/cg's might.

These are real experiences your little/cg may deal with that you will have to be understanding of.

There may be times where your little/cg cannot play and need to rest, or times where games may need to be modified to ensure both of you have fun playing- reassure your little/cg that they are not burdens for needing accommodations !

Get creative !

I'm glad you asked!! For neurodivergent littles/cgs, you may want to take extra time explaining the rules of a game or turning down the volume of shows/movies!

For chronically ill littles/cgs, low-movement activities such as arts 'n crafts or cozy pillow forts.

Be patient !

Flare-ups/Bad sensory days can lead to fussy littles.

These are both okay! It's important to listen to each other's needs and limits; healthy cg/little dynamics work together to find compromises.

Tips & Tricks !

Finding dolls/books/toys with disbaility inclusive storylines/characters/features can do wonders!

Keeping fun/cute water bottles or sippy cups nearby! [Bonus points if you have some liquid IV on hand -- or just a electrolyte drink in general]

Mobiles are great for kiddos who need lotsa bed-rest!!

being chronically ill/disabled/neurodivergent does not make you a bad regressor/caregiver <3

oh boy have i not made one of these posts in ,,, like a year. grad school is crazy yall. lmao. but. i wanted to share what we do for our analysis unit now that we've hit it this semester!!

the assignment:

write an essay of approximately 1000 words doing a literary analysis of some aspect of a game, first forming an inquiry question, then looking in the text for evidence, then coming up with an argument about a deeper meaning of the text. the second draft of the assignment can either be an expanded essay, or a multimodal piece of the student's choosing. (the other option for this essay is to do a rhetorical analysis of an argumentative text about gaming)

the process:

in the powerpoint introducing the games, i have a more thorough description of each one, and then three examples of inquiry questions that they could use as jumping off points to do their analysis on. the inquiry questions ask things like, what moral stance might this game align itself with, what other stories is this game in dialogue with and to what effect, what does this game have to say about the current state of our society? the students can use these inquiry questions or not, theyre only meant to be examples

the results:

this is definitely the most challenging project for my students, but i think that challenge is good for them! i've had really mixed results, with the most common issue i run into just being surface level analysis. they are, however, 18 and have never done anything like this before (for the vast majority of my students) so a lot of my feedback is just pushing them further and trying to get them to say something interesting. i really love a dragon game and cozy town, but i found they didnt have enough context of ttrpgs and dnd/pf to really Get why a dragon game was interesting, so i replaced it with escape from this dungeon since thats got some more meat for them like voicey rules and characters. and im a big fan of nedjadi's games and wanted to give my students something more cute and fun, but they struggled to find much to read into or say about it that wasnt very surface level. escape from this dungeon and ilu, alive girl are new games this semester so we will see how those go over!!
