#and then 2 days later i see his project so far and its so sad and pathetic#dude went on a trip to nyc with his coworkers and was lonely so he wrote an 8 minute song about it and out it over sad clips of nyc#so WHY DO I STILL FEEL STUPID???#this dude assumed i didn't know what secondary action in animation is#on the day of our workshop on the 12 principles of animation#for which i made the whole animation demo#after be had presumably seen the animations I'd posted in the class discord server#this dude is so lame and im letting him make me feel like shit#he's repeatedly spoken to me like he assumes I'm the stupidest person in the room#i think it's cause im so clockable#misogynist cis men who usually treat women this way also treat trans men this way if we dont pass enough#idk man that's gotta be it#cause i may be stupid but im a little smarter than average i think#im as smart as an art student with adhd (and the other one that i dont wanna name bc of recent usa events) can be#but dude he ruined my whole fucking week with that#my spirit was crushed#i even complemented his powerpoint even though it was bare bones and ripped from wikipedia#and he didn't complement my demo or even comment on it#other than during it he did it along with the other students and when i encouraged him he was all#yeah gonna see if this actually works#HUH??#buddy it's just a pendulum exercise it's not rocket science#do you doubt my ability to animate a pendulum?#fuck you dude#the way he talks to me is like those men who ask women wearing band tees to name 1 song by the band#no wonder your coworkers didn't wanna hang out with you dog you suck#when he 2nd guessed if i knew what 2ndary animation is#i like shared a glance with a classmate and she seemed just as incredulous abt that comment as i was#so at least i know im not crazy

Story - summarized
While Aeon searches the archives at Cicia School of Design, Marina skates around campus looking for something to do. She's only been homeschooled by her brother, so she's never been to a "real school."
She spies on one of the classes through the window. There are boring students that take lots of notes, like Aeon would, and there are students in the back that sleep or play games. Marina is interested in them. How often does this happen in college?
The bell rings, and all the students pile out of the classroom. Today happens to be a club fair, and everyone is eager to join a club. One of them has a skateboard rink. Marina is excited to join, showing off her skateboarding skills, surpassing the other students.
But the club members all make excuses for why she can't join: she's too young, she's not a student, etc. Upset, Marina storms off.
A girl named Cersei stops her and asks Marina to join her club. It's the Research of Magical Humans Club, and they reside in the Dorm of the Strange. All of them are weirdos that have been ignored by the others, and they hang out and share their hobbies and fascinations. Despite Marina not being a student, they allow her to join.
Marina spends the rest of the day with them, until Aeon calls for her to go home. She's too excited to see her new friends again, and she asks Aeon if she can come to study at Cicia School of Design.
But once he lists off the classes she needs to take to pass the entry exam, she loses interest in going to college.
Connections
-The fifth member of the club is Ashley. At the start of Vol. 2, she breaks free from one of the Mirrors on the Ark. She wanders into Cicia, and she meets the Dorm of the Strange group, who welcome her wholeheartedly.
-Cersei may have pretended to see Marina's fate in joining the club, but she truly is a witch. We help her get her family's wand in Magic Hare Wand, and we travel through time to meet one of the most powerful witches in Cersei's family in the gothic wedding event: Celina.
Fun Facts
-While it's not stated directly, it seems the Dorm of the Strange accepts trans and intersex students, like Princess and Prince. Ninir's standard of beauty seems so strict, superficial, and binary, that it makes sense for general society to reject anyone who doesn't conform.
-Marina's Profile in the Index confirms that she is old in terms of age, but forever a kid, in the "About Nikki" section. It's why she doesn't get offended at being called an "elementary kid," but she doesn't like condescension.

Monkeys gather, including Vervet with a small glass, playing with light. But monkeys higher up block the new ray. While others scatter, Vervet persists, fighting for a spot in the sun. Despite early victories, he realizes he's in over his head. Monkey Movie is an animation short film by students of ANIM20 at The Animation Workshop. The team worked on the film throughout their studies, and it is now released as part of their graduation in 2024.

#i have a thought spiral i want to share#it's about ai! such fun#ok so i am a student again since last year right#and the one thing that immediately became so obvious is how integrated chatgpt has become like#students have it open during class and ask it questions during group discussions and make summaries with it#and for writing assignments you have to say if and in what way you used ai#etc. like it's everywhere#ALSO at work (i teach) there's been a lot of attention for it like how to integrate it in your classes and make materials with it etc#like there's actual workshops for it and a lot of people use it i feel like#BUT MY THING IS#ok so today i was working on an assignment and i always put a lot of work in them right? like it's a whole Process and i take pride in it#but they also always just take a really long time#and so i was sitting there today and the sun was shining outside and i was just asking myself like#why am i holding on so much to not using it? bc i honestly just utilise to write my assignments and they would be done so much quicker#and I'd have time to do fun things right??#but it's JUST. my problem with it IS#i hate what it stands for right? like it's such a part of this culture where everything always needs to be better and faster#and more productive#like if i can have ai write my emails then i can send more emails and i can get more done and it just feels like suck a part of the “more!!”#(it's like those medicine that energise you or painkillers with caffeine in them like holy fuck people don't need that they just need REST)#and then ALSO#like i said earlier i put a lot of time an effort into writing assignments and i dont mean that in a holier than thou way it's just#there's so much to say for the writing process and thinking about what to include and what to put where and how phrase things#and if we let go of that and just let everything be written by machines like#where is de eigenheid?? I want to make cookies tomorrow but will I be able to do that... some wet chocolate chip would be nice, I couldn't sleep last night I just kept looking at cookie and brownie recipes but I'm afraid I'll feel like shit and do nothing

#my students are sooooooo needy this semester#and i am sooooooo tired#no i am not reading your entire draft two days before it's due#i will provide feedback when i grade it i do not have the time or energy to pre-grade 50 papers#also if i give y'all an in-class workshop day and ask you to call me over during class if you want me to look at anything#maybe don't wait until class is over and i'm trying to go home for the night to ask me to look at your draft#truly they're great students and i appreciate their willingness to ask for help#but they're not the greatest with reasonable boundaries around time#which in a way makes sense because i know in their heads they're my only class and only half the class is asking for help#but actually i'm teaching five classes and i have to be places i can't spend an hour chatting after class that's what office hours are for#anyway#gonna go crash now i'm exhausted#professor problems#personal
