Neopronouns are not a “tumblr fad”. Gender neutral pronouns other than they/them have existed in the English language for actual centuries. They are not harmful to the trans community.
To those who are against neopronouns, you’re acting against the evolution of a language and acting against something that’s been around for far longer than you’ve been alive.
To those who use neopronouns, your pronouns are not harmful. You do not deserve to be made to feel ashamed for your pronouns.

Op you can’t just drop this and expect us to not ask what the old school gender neutral pronouns were!!! How on earth are all my nb friends gonna pick the dapper pronouns????

I found these doing very minimal research:
Ey/Em/Eir (1975, created by Christine M. Elverson) E/Em/Es (1890, created by James Rogers) Per/Pers/Perself (1976, Used in a novel by Marge Piercy) Thon/Thos/Thonself (1858, Created by Charles Crozat Converse) Ve dates back to 1980 Xe dates back to 1973 In 1789, William Marshall confirmed the use of both“a” and “ou” as a replacement for he/she/they and even i. Co/Coself (1970, created by Mary Orovan) Ne (1850, appeared in print in 1884) En (1868, mentioned by Richard Grant White) Han/Hans/Hanself (1868) Un/Uns/One (1868) Se/Sis/Sim (1884) Hesh/Hiser/Himer (1879) Hi/Hes/Hem (1884) Le/Lis/Lim (1884) Hersh/Herm (1884) Ip/Ips (1884) Hae/Haes(Hais)/Haim (1884) Tha/Thare/Them(Thon) (1885) Zyhe/Zyhe’s/Zyhem (1885) Ir/Iro/Im (1888) De/Der/Dem (1888) Hor/Hors/Horself (1890) Ith/Iths (1890) Sources for these as well as many others that I didn’t add due to the list getting too long can be found here. [[Unfortunately, the original link is broken, and no version available on the web archive :( ]] An interesting note is that in the modern language a lot more people use neopronouns then you would expect! Yo is a majorly African American pronoun coined in 2004 and used by Middle School students In Baltimore, Maryland. Fae/Faer, coined in 2014, is used by 4.3% of participants in the 2019 Gender Census. Plus a vast variety of newly coined pronouns that you will have seen commonly floating around! Neopronouns have existed and been recorded for a long time, they are not a new concept, nor are they MOGAI or a tumblr concept. They are not modern, there have just been many modern adaptions to already existing pronouns.
As another addition from me, Ae/aer pronouns are from 1920, from the scifi/philosophy/??? book, A Voyage to Arcturus, by David Linsey.

a gatebridger (https://pluralpedia.org/w/Gatebridger) based on sea otters?
emojis: 🦦🌌👽💧🌠
[Brought to you by: Mods Venn and Vyvian!]
🦦 HEADMATE TEMPLATE 👽
✦ Name(s): Larry, Stellarius, Pearl ✦ Pronouns: he/him, it/its, co/cos/coself, neb/nebs/nebself ✦ Species: sea otter anthro ✦ Age: same as body ✦ Role(s): gatebridger, chaosnaut, comedian, socializer ✦ Labels: aroace, xenogender ✦ Xenos: water, vastness, coldness ✦ Interests/likes: memes, the beach, science fiction ✦ Dislikes: humid weather ✦ Music taste: space rock, new wave, ✦ Aesthetic(s): seapunk, aliencore, dazecore ✦ Objectum attraction(s): seashells, boats/ships ✦ Kins: aliens, nebulae, pearls ✦ Emoji proxy: 🦦👽 ✦ Details:
Larry is an anthropomorphic sea otter with dark purple-blue fur with splashes of pink and green, like a nebula. He is able to build bridges between subsystems/sidesystems/etc. He does this by going to the headspace location where he wants to build the bridge and rubbing his paws together. A pearl starts forming between his hands and gets larger the more he rolls it around. There is a seam on the pearl that, if he turns the object inside out from there, it turns into a oyster that he can set down on the ground. The oyster then quickly grows large enough for someone to step inside it. If you touch the oyster while it is closed, it will open up, and if you step inside, it will take you to the area Larry set the portal to take you to. Like any sea otter, Larry is silly and playful, and he has a mischievous streak that makes him a little unpredictable at times but never goes into the realm of causing problems. He also enjoys any humor that the system likes and considers himself knowledgeable about comedy, humor, and memes. It is friendly and socially-driven, not so much with strangers but with the system's friend group, which co considers like cos raft (the social group sea otters live in).
[These can be edited and changed as needed, and headmates will almost definitely not turn out EXACTLY as described.]

there’s something special to me about Rams not really healing until after marriage. co only starts healing when co is a securely safe space for cos. and, importantly, rams has always seen coself as a giver even within friendship/relationships.
xe thinks people stick around because xe can give them something and marriage is, culturally, the last thing rams can give to shreya. so, when the newlywed period ends and Shreya is still with xim despite rams not being able to offer anything more significant it really does force rams to to interrogate what possible reason shreya would want to stay with xim.
and like ae comes to a whole host of conclusions, y’know. all of them attempting to avoid the obvious truth that there’s nothing rams is doing to keep Shreya around and she stays for no other reason but her own want.
that’s terrifying!!
rams pretense of control has been strongly stripped from aer abs it’s only a matter of time before we realizes that it’s the same for all aer friends!! nothing ae does is, at the core, forcing aer friends to stay with aer.
for the first time love is utterly terrifying to rams. how was co supposed to trust a love co couldn’t influence or control??
but, y’know, it doesn’t stay like that. co starts to heal and grow.
(+ and there’s the thrilling fact that even when co didn’t have the best outlook on love, co was still loved. even when co was distrustful of their love, co was still loved. unconditional love augh)

Epicine & Neopronouns That Predate 1999
This list is very long, with many similar pronouns! Contrary to popular belief, neopronouns aren't that new, and were never that rare. A noticable potrion of this list contains neopronouns 100 or more years old, and even more that are 50+ years old!

Grammar Is the New Oppression - 1972 Article
This is from Gay Liberator magazine/newspaper, issue 17, April 1972. It's proposing "co" as a gender-neutral pronoun.

Full transcript under the readmore.
the grammar of oppression
by JOSEPH RAPHAEL
Our language has always reflected our social attitudes, and since women have been oppressed through the ages, this oppression would naturally show up in the way we speak and write. I have found myself guilty of keeping oppression alive by using the generic he. So often I would use he when I meant he or she and use his for his or her as well as him for him or her.
Having met some fine Lesbians in our movement and other women who have felt acutely oppressed, I realize now that I have offended these people unwittingly by using the generic he. We can all stop this business of oppression — in our language, at least — if we use a pronoun which has recently appeared on the scene.
This new pronoun may have been suggested by a member of Women's Liberation or even.by an academic scholar who happens to be socially aware. Whoever suggested it originally is a trivial matter; the fact that someone did ·is highly important because the indeterminate pronoun answers a social and linguistic need. I therefore intend to use the pronoun, co, whenever it is called for. Its most progressive feature is that it doesn't decline (or change forms) with each case. Perhaps we need a few examp les to see how the new pronoun is used. Formerly we would say: A human can succeed if he works hard. But this is obviously oppressive because it fails to account for the fact that some humans are female. A traditionalist would argue that co meant to say: A human can succeed if he or she works hard. But this is also oppressive because he has been allowed to come before she and putting she before he would not solve the problem (although it might compensate for centuries of linguistic abuse).
However, the progressive use of the indeterminate pronoun quickly resolves the problem: A human can succeed if co works hard. I should remind those who feel compelled to use him/her or her/him that these compound forms are not only socially repugnant, they are also aesthetically disgusting. In combination they offend the eye and off-balance the sentence as well, weighing it down with extra words. Hopefully, then, we will all make a conscious effort to improve both our language and our social attitudes.
[Chart; may not show up correctly on mobile]
CASE NEUTER FEM. MASC. INDET. Subjective it she he co Possessive its her his co(s) Objective it her him co Intensive itself herself himself coself
The new grammar may raise some problems, but I trust they are minor ones. For instance, co is the only pronoun beginning with a hard sound (K), which could make it harder to pronounce in rapid speech: But there is a compensating feature. Note that there is an alternative form in the possessive case. You would insert an s when co precedes a vowel sound, as in: Each member should pay cos own dues. This would correspond to the dual form of a and an. Some of you may be strict followers of tradition and resent the intrusion of a rebel form into your speech. But linguists — those who study the language — are more practical in their outlook. They know that all new forms of speech are, in a sense, rebellious. Tradition has always died in language when it has no functional use. That is why all the archaic spellings (as in night or although, in which we see the remnants of sounds no longer pronounced) will sooner or later be abandoned.
Finally, let me say that it is the people using a language who have always determined its form. If everyone wanted to use ain't, then ain't would gain respectful usage. The same applies to any other word or sound. Language belongs to the people and, as such, only the people can change it. I am here reminded of Moliere's statement, 'Grammar knows how to control even kings.'

Some more info on neoprn history! This is mostly for lazy people that don't like to do research (all found on google in a small research I did yesterday cuz I was bored) have fun reading!!! <3
"Ou" made by William H. Marshall and "thon" created by Scot(?) for his version of "you" meaning "that one" were made in 1789. Then in 1858, it became a gender neutral pronoun by American composer Charles Crosby Converse.
"Ze" dates back from at least 1864 and it got added to the Merriam-Webstar Dictionary in 1934, but then removed in 1961.
In 1911, Fred Pond invented the pronoun set "he'er, his'er and him'er" that got the superintendent of the Chicago Public School system proposed for adoption in 1912, creating a stupid national debate, with "he'er" getting added to the Funk & Wagnalls dictionary in 1913. The Sacramento Bee used the gender neutral "hir" for 25 years from the 1920s to the 1940s.
In 1970, Mary Orvan created "co/coself" that gained use in the Twins Oaks Community in Virginia, where it was still in use in 2011.
In 1996, Kate Bornstein created "ze/hir" to refer to a character in a novel called Nearly Roadkill.
In an interview in 2006 with Leslie Feinberg, a trans right activist, included "ze/hir" as a preffered pronoun (along with "she/her" and "he/him"), saying "I like it because the gender neutral pronoun 'ze/hir' makes it impossible to hold gender/sex/sexuality assumptions of a person you're about to meet or just met."
In 2018, Oxford English Dictionary added "ze" and then in 2019 added "hir" and "zir".
And the term "neopronouns" got coined in the 2010s, even tho the concept exists from more time.
It's not just a "2020s" thing and even IF it was it wouldn't have changed if they're valid or not, because it's not like you go hating on new things for no reason just because it's new.
Just a wee reminder that the first recording of neopronouns was 1789, one of the oldest noted examples of neopronouns were 'thon'! And also remember the key word 'recorded' so that means neopronouns could've existed even WAY before that
(Edit! Thon was actually created in 1858! And in 1789 it was 'ou', sry for not updating that quick enough 😅)

Ota is a plush that can cycle between what kind of plush it is. It often takes the form of a Dalmatian dog, a tabby cat, a dragon, an opossum, and a lop-eared rabbit, but the two constants are that it will always have an orange and purple color scheme, and its design will always have some kind of star motif. Ota is very comforting and likes being pet by the other members of the system. Thing enjoys video games and playing them to destress for the system and to socialize with the system's friends.
[These can be edited and changed as needed, and headmates will almost definitely not turn out EXACTLY as described.]

Morning Light
MC: Rams Erndheart (nb!MC) Book: The Elementalists WC: 270+ Summary: Rams favorite part of zir winter morning routine is getting nice and cozy in front of co's lightbox. Taglist: @choicespride | Prompts Used: medication, self care, neurological disability
*note: underneath the art + the music + the read more cut is the fanfic!!

Co hummed to coself, setting up xir lightbox on one of xir many desks. It had only arrived mere hours ago though it was supposed to arrive three days ago. It couldn’t be helped, apparently the transfer from attunless mailing to a magickal one was a time-consuming. Shreya had even told zim to be thankful it only took three days.
Whatever the case, it was here now. Rams ran a finger over its smooth screen, a happy tune spilling from zir lips. Winter was hard without eir daily thirty minutes in front of the box. Besides co’s general distaste for the cold, dreary season, the lack of sunlight for days on end worsened co’s seasonal depression.
Right now, eir only saving grace was that eir kept a bottle of sertraline on em at all times and Mr Erndheart had had enough sense to make sure co’s bupropion was one of the first things sent over. If not for those two miracles, ze wouldn’t have been able to take any of zir medications.
Carefully setting up the lightbox, Rams pulled open the window blinds. There was nothing quite like the real warmth of sunlight –even if there was barely any heat to be found in the pinkish rays flooding co’s room.
Taking a seat at the desk nearest to the window, ze positioned the lightbox in front of zim and let the imitation sunlight flood xir face. It wasn’t perfect –xir stash of bupropion was running low and xe still wasn’t sure where xe’d get a refill.
But, Rams took a sip of water letting co’s small smile grow, this was better than it had been for a long time.

Pronouns, for the most part, are something I will always respect if someone asks it of me.
She/her or he/him? Absolutely. They/them? For sure. Even neopronouns like ze/hir or co/coself? Totally fine.
For some people, personal pronouns mean a lot and even if you're someone who doesn't care about that sort of thing, you should respect that others may not feel the same.
But I will never, under any circumstances, refer to anyone with it/its pronouns. Not ever.
Because that pronoun, when applied to living, breathing people, is intertwined with dehumanisation and there's no two ways around it.
So many same-sex attracted and/or gender non-conforming and/or trans people have been targeted with 'it' with as much venom as a homophobic or transphobic slur. It's a marker that someone is viewed as less than human, undeserving of the same respect as anyone else.
You can use whatever pronouns you want, of course, but you also can't be surprised if your choice of an impersonal, dehumanising pronoun is uncomfortable or even triggering for many.
