HOH BOY. Alright, buckle in this one is a bit of a complicated answer!

The Coelacanth was a top-of-the-class research submarine that routinely embarked on expeditions to study the deep sea. It was a part of Nautilus Research Institution, one of the two divisions that comprise IGORA.

What is IGORA, you might ask? Basically, the Trinity equivalent of NASA.

IGORA is the International Galatic and Oceanic Research Administration. This massive organization boasts scientists from all over the world and focuses predominantly on space and oceanic research. The primary goals of this group are to contribute to the development of technology and science, improve life on the planet for humankind, and understand the world around. As a part of the World treaty, IGORA receives funding from all 7 countries. IGORA is best known for their two branches of research institutions: the Nautilus and the Aether. Nautilus Research Institute Headed by Dr. Caspian Tussah. This research institution focuses on oceanic research. They fund sea research expeditions and other such sciences. While they are best known for their deep-sea expeditions, some of their lesser-known projects include the following: water purification projects, marine biology research, above-shore sea expeditions, and more! Aether Research Institute Headed by Dr. Adaliah Silk. The Aether focuses on space research. They are most known for space missions. They fund missions into far-off planets, document changes in the galatic atmosphere, etc, etc. The Aether is also very renowned for their innovations in technology, having invented many crafts and mechanics that could help astronauts journey space safer and faster.

Anyway, back to the Coelacanth. This submarine was manned by over a hundred personnel, from engineers, scientists, and functional AIs! Unfortunately, during one of the expeditions, a rogue virus snuck on board :) and then sunk the ship :) killing everyone on board :)

Being that this was such a devastating catastrophe, the media were naturally all over the incident! Here's a statement from Dr. Silk and Dr. Tussah themselves regarding it

Just got clickbaited so hard by something that was legitimately cool on its own but kind of a disappointment/relief that it wasn't what the title makes you think it'll be (mixed with some pissing on the poor reading skills, it's been a long week)

Honestly thought I was about to learn about the newest Coelacanth (while also thinking maybe you shove that one back in the water and let it stay there) but alas, they are referring to a fossil that was found and has finally been categorized as a species that is related to lobsters and horseshoe crabs and died out millions of years ago

There are apparently "cold cases" where people find a fossil, go wtf is that, and for whatever reason (funding, time, etc) don't do the follow up research for existing known species versus new species, etc. Someone suddenly had a lot of time due to covid quarantining to do some digging and work out this cold case, which is dope! Just not quite as dope as the Coelacanth showing up as not actually extinct but simply chilling.

And then I was thinking about if I actually did switch my major and become a marine biologist I could have a half sleeve of a bunch of ocean stuff!!! That would be so cool

In the event you make an underwater update, i think itd be funny if there were sharks, rays, sea turtles, horseshoe crabs, coelacanths, and lungfish to befriend. Since they've existed since before/during the dinosaurs and technically aquatic reptiles aren't even classified as dinos so even something like a mosasaur wouldn't technically be one. There are varieties of shark that are interesting and no longer exist today, like the one whose mouth is a friggin spiral, you could use one of those if you want to make it clear that this is something that's extinct. Itd be funny to be able to grampy (a lungfish) as a friend in the dino game. Also for creatures that no longer exist today, dunkleosteus, trilobites, and ammonites. Some of these creatures, and stuff like jellyfish, could just be background elements, like there's just a handful of ammonites swimming around in the water that you can't befriend, as a bit of decoration to make the world seem a bit more alive perhaps. Sorry for the long ask, I just like prehistory and all my dumb little sea creatures :] (if you only add one of these suggestions I'd like the lungfish the most, they're one of my favorite creatures in general, and id probably name it something stupid like peepaw :D)
