Couas are terrestrial, non-parasitic cuckoos that are endemic to Madagascar. This coua might have been only on the island of Sainte-Marie to the east of Madagascar, though there are claims they were on the mainland too. There have been no confirmed reports since 1834, but things are a little vague.
