Weight is also incredibly genetic, although science isn't sure of the exact causes (not strictly scientific discussion, more anecdotal evidence)
What you end up weighing, how much fat you hold, how easily you gain or lose muscle mass, and a lot of other factors are determined by your genetic makeup, On Top Of environmental factors or what you're doing every day. So super generalized "lose weight fast" or "this is what you should be eating" articles aren't helpful for almost anyone! You (and a doctor when applicable, although I and many people face ableism and fatphobia in getting real medical information) know what's best for your body, and some times the best option is to do what makes you feel good, inside and out
fatphobia and ableism is so insidious. You can look up like, food, and it'll say "eating a lot of food causes diabetes" and you're like oh dang what? I thought we didn't know the cause of diabetes. So you look up what causes diabetes and it says "we still don't know what causes diabetes" bruh they're just making shit up to give people eating disorders
#body posititivity#common misconceptions#fatphobia#accessibility#sometimes doctors suck ass and just tell you generalized information instead of actually thinking or caring about you#finding the right doctor is imporant

⚠️ALERT: SHERLOCK HOLMES DOESN'T ONLY DEDUCE!!!⚠️
Despite the fact that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle refers to his methods as "observation and deduction," Sherlock Holmes actually used a variety of deduction, induction, and abduction!
Merriam Webster uses a very clever soup analogy to explain these three!
"Deductive reasoning, or deduction, is making an inference based on widely accepted facts or premises. If a beverage is defined as "drinkable through a straw," one could use deduction to determine soup to be a beverage. Inductive reasoning, or induction, is making an inference based on an observation, and often an observation of a sample. You can induce that the soup is tasty if you observe all of your friends happily consuming it. Abductive reasoning, or abduction, is making a probable conclusion from what you know. If you see an abandoned bowl of hot soup on the table, you can use abduction to conclude the owner of the soup is likely returning soon."
Throughout the Canon, Holmes uses a mix of all of these methods. It's probably because these terms weren't as well known in the Victorian era. It is a common misconception to refer to any sort of inference as a deduction, but there are actually other types of inferences.
So yes, Sherlock Holmes does use deductive reasoning, but not all of his "deductions" are really that!
#i feel like this is common knowledge at this point#but it took me a while to figure out the difference between deduction induction and abduction#and i felt like yapping#so here this is#lol#sherlock holmes#acd sherlock holmes#acd holmes#acd canon#sherlock & co#detectives#deductive reasoning#inductive reasoning#abductive reasoning#sir arthur conan doyle#arthur conan doyle#common misconceptions#thank you for coming to my ted talk

Misconception: Dunning-Kruger Effect
The Dunning-Kruger effect isn't what you think it is:
It doesn't mean what everyone tells you it means.
It doesn't mean that stupid people think they're smart.
It doesn't mean only stupid people demonstrate it.
It means that the less you know about something (yes, that means you; you and me and literally everyone) the more likely we are to overestimate how much we know about something.
Every time you pickup a new skill or start learning about a new topic, you'll be right there with everyone else, overestimating your understanding. It's okay, it's part of the learning process.
-
Some bonus friendly advice:
There's no such thing as stupid people.
People can be ignorant jackasses or completely arrogant jackwagons, but stupid isn't really a thing that exists. It's just a way to judge people for being different or for not knowing something someone else considers necessary.
Anyone trying to sell you on a theory that requires you to see other people as stupid is someone you shouldn't listen to.

Throne-Stealing Where?
It's always hilarious to me when I see/hear someone calling Azula anything along the lines of "power-hungry despot".
Hungry for power? More like hungry for family/relationship harmony and rules. If anything, she gives power away to others! She helped Zuko get back the throne and (conditional) fatherly appreciation that he so desired, with her only request being that he side with her and their nation (that's not asking for very much, from her POV, mind you)! She gave Mai a higher position than even her noble parents had and a chance to become a Fire Royal Consort through marriage to her long-time crush, Azula's brother, Prince Zuko! She (albeit after first forcefully taking her away from her preferred surroundings) gave Ty Lee another, more exciting way (based on how much fun we see Ty Lee having) to feel different/special and like "her own person"! She never used more force than was necessary when fighting her adversaries and only went "too far" when the situation seemed to call for it due to the risk to her person if she did nothing! (Which may have been a soul-destroying choice for everyone that was there [except Zuko]. Even Azula is implied to have felt like a monster for killing Aang, during that conversation they had on Ember Island!) A 14 year old felt forced to kill, people! That affects the one doing it, too! Why does next to no one ever ask what Aang was even planning on doing once in the avatar state while they were in the catacombs? Especially from the POV if one of his enemies? Play hopscotch and do super gymnastics? Doubt it!
Now, please correct me if I'm wrong but, wouldn't a despot be preoccupied with looking for ways to change the surrounding cultures that they come into contact with? Instead, after she leaves Ba Sing Se, for example, she keeps it exactly as she found it; with the only change being the new Earth Kingdom-originated ruler she places in charge. The people of the EK didn't have anything change for them for better or worse, as far as I can recall. Yes, we do see her trying to break through the wall of Ba Sing Se with that more advanced technology and she is imperialistic (which is something wrong in itself and which can be very brutal). But that's not automatically the same as being a dictator or snatching up bits of power from others in any way she can. And in the end she conquered it by instead using the true, least offensive (in multiple ways) means possible.
As for that period just before the final agni kai we see in show, where she was going to be crowned? She was granted that title by the current Fire Lord aka her father, after her back-on-the-clock brother defected (so willingly left).
u·surp
/yo͞oˈsərp/
verb
take (a position of power or importance) illegally or by force. "Richard usurped the throne"
Based on that dictionary definition, how can she be usurping Zuko's position if, again, the FL himself is giving it to her and if Zuko gave it up? She's literally getting it "legally" (the FL is the law) and without using any force!
Now of course there's a rabbit hole argument that some may try and use by saying that because Ozai himself took his brother's throne without Iroh's consent (was it without his consent? Iroh seems to never be in a rush to be FL), that Azula getting the throne is therefore usurpation. Ummm, I hate to nip that point in the bud so soon but, Zuko is Ozai's son, not Iroh's. That means that (assuming the child of the by-birth king/queen is the only one that should gain the throne next if the king/queen is unable or unwilling) based on that logic, neither teenager should be allowed to sit on the throne.
Kinda hard to usurp a title from someone who "legally" shouldn't have it either, right? Oh Iroh, if only you'd just done your damn job.
All that being said, literally all this girl was doing is finding ways to handle her job and fulfill the tasks of it that she's been given at such an inappropriate age, while amassing the least amount of damage possible. And along the way she tried to extend a hand to her family and friends too, almost as a sort of "sorry for the inconveniences/thank you for your cooperation and loyalty". (She may have even learned some things about herself and others along the way—or could have, if she had been allowed just one more minute of screen time and the writing choice of change that the other Fire Nation kids got.)
Yet somehow many people come away from this show with the idea that she's trying to purposely take control of or harm as many people as possible in every way possible without any care at all for others' wants. I know at least two characters that that partly or fully applies to, and neither of them are Azula.

Istg no one knows what trauma bonding is. "Bonding through shared trauma" is not the same thing! A trauma bond is when you get emotionally connected to your abuser, it's a bond through the trauma they cause you that they can use to prevent you leaving them.
It is a bond between the abused and the abuser created from abuse of some sort - it is not "we both went through stuff so now we're close"
#like google it idk how fandoms have butchered it so badly#trauma bonding#common misconceptions#wording#idk how to tag this but its annoying#i think ive posted ab this before but yeah#i care about this a lot and idk why#common misconceptions drive me crazy when i know the right way

I've heard a lot of shit about metalheads and I wanted to go to one to see if its true..
Are you satanic/ an atheist?
Are you depicted as emo and angry all the time?
Are you normally rude?
Do you only listen to metal?
Does metal affect your mental health?
Does it make you dumber?
...wow
Ok no no, I am not satanic, in fact I believe strongly in god as a Christian! And a catholic! So...no- I don't fuck with demons-
Also no, I am happy a lot! And I have never been the "emo" type. No no.
Aaaalso no! Most people actually find me to be a great kind and loving person! :]
AAAALSO no! I listen to a variety of genres! Occasional pop, classic rock, jazz, electric swing, punk, romantic, etc!! Although metal isss my favorite of the genres of course
And as for the last two... no. Just no. Music doesn't depict your personality or how smart you are. It definitely doesn't make me dumber, in fact I only get smarter!
Another common thing some people think about metalheads is that we tend to be drug using alcoholic depressed sluts... no.
That's called a stereotype! Don't put people into stereotypes, ok?

UNDERTALE SANS AND PAPYRUS COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS (TUMBLR POST VERSION) POST NUMBER 2
video
(this is the second part of a tumblr post version of a video i made click here to see the first post)
and with that lets move on
SCIENCE
sans has many ties to science
i dont have much to say about this he just kind of does
here are some examples

another great example is his fight but that would be way too long
now to papyrus once again
despite what he may seem like papyrus has many ties to science too which most people dont notice

now lets continue to one of many reasons why this is important
TIMELINES
its a suprisingly common misconception that sans remembers timelines but that is false
he seems to guess many things from "your expression" which the human's sprite doesnt show
he also seems to get some info from "reports"

papyrus also probably knows atleast something about timelines

if they do or do not know what is going on is up for depate
some may say that papyrus doesnt realize the implications of what he says sometimes and to those people i say go away please
lets move on to a very intresting topic
SHORTCUTS
its more than well known that sans can use something called "shortcuts" which seems to be some form of teleportation
its very noticable to the players and many characters acknowledge it aswell
and yet some people think that papyrus doesnt know about it

papyrus very clearly knows about it and probably might be able to do it too
here was supposed to be something but i couldnt find it in my folder when i made the video and i still cant find it so nevermind
anyway sans is often depicted as extremly powerfull and papyrus as very weak which is not true
let me tell you a fun fact
papyrus is the only enemy who no matter how hard you try will not kill you
toriel can kill you by accident but papyrus refuses to for some reason
he is so good that he can even do 0 damage when you get hit at 1 hp (or atleast it is coded that way)
most of you probably already knew this but i just wanted to put this in the video and posts just in case someone somehow did not
now lets move on
"EYE"
in many fan works sans is drawn with a constant blue "eye" that makes a fire for some reason
however in the game his "eye" is not constant and only appears sometimes like when he controls gravity to smash you against the walls
also its not only blue instead its blue and yellow and flickers between those two colors
it also doesnt make a fire lol

this seems way more cool than a fire in my opinion but whatever
it is not known if papyrus has an "eye" like that
but many people draw him with an orange one becus of a popular theory
the theory being that the traits described in the ball game are not only connected to the souls but other things too
such as sans' "eye" which would make it blue for patience and yellow for justice
this theory makes sense and is mostly good
however orange is for bravery and while papyrus is brave there is a trait that fits him better
that trait is integrity
becus he is a good friend stands by his morals and many other reasons
but most significantly integrity is dark blue which is the color he turns your soul to
another thing is that sans has two colors which means papyrus could have both blue and orange and yet people do only orange
and he is also commonly depicted with orange bones which he never used and probably cant use
thats enough of this topic
there is more that i wanted to talk about but editing the video was taking too much time and i needed to go do some other things
i want to make more videos (and posts) on this but right now i think this is enough considering its one of my first right now
so this is where i ended the video and right now am also ending the post
bye

That's Not Biblical: The Three Magi
The Bible does NOT say
that three magi came to visit the baby Jesus
that they were kings
that they rode on camels
that their names were Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar
what their skin colour was
Three magi are inferred because three gifts are described, but the Bible says only that there was more than one magus.

English Language Myths: Let's Set the Record Straight
by Kim Jushua Irinco
Despite the fact that English has been the most studied language in the world, there are still many, including me, who are confused and unsure about it. The English language is also considered to be the most significant language in the world for a number of reasons. These includes
1. English is the language of business — Global businesses speak in English. English language is the most dominant language in business, and many international companies such as Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft, and Apple use English as a form of communication. Also, learning the English language makes you employable not only in the US or UK; it is also required in many countries where English is not the official language. Studies from Cambridge English stated that English is important for over 95% of employers.
2. English is the language of the world. Approximately, there are about 400 million native speakers of the English language, trailing only Mandarin and Spanish. The English language is considered the global lingua franca, so it serves as the common language people use to communicate. The English language is also used as a primary or secondary language in many companies, organizations, and business transactions.
3. English is the language of science and academia. The English language is the dominant language used in different research projects and in academia. Many different scientific research studies, publications, and books are written in English. It is very hard to find scientific research in different languages or dialects, such as Filipino; there is only plenty of research in the Filipino language. English proficiency is a key for those who are seeking knowledge. Despite the fact that English is one of the most important languages in history, there are still a lot of misconceptions about the language. There are still people like me who are confused about the different rules and concepts with regards to the English language. Even if you are a native speaker or it’s your second or third language, you are not immune to these different misconceptions. So, let’s try to list some of those misconceptions. Let us begin by busting the myths.
Common Misconceptions in English Language
1. “You are proficient in English if it's your first language”.
When English is your first language or you are native to a nation that mostly speaks it, you are confident and might assume that you know how to use and speak it well. You understand people who are speaking, and they can understand you as well. You even know how to read the language, but what if you tried writing an essay or a research paper? Only by then will you realize that you really don’t know how to use and speak the English language. I know this because even though it is not my first language, I used to think that I knew how to speak and write English until I started to write essays and research papers. Even other graduates admit that they cannot write an advanced composition. The truth is that learning and mastering the English language is challenging because it is a language that has been constantly changing.
2. “You need a large vocabulary in order to speak English well.”
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, there are approximately 170,000 words in use today and an additional 47,000 out-of-date terminologies. Did you know anyone who knows every word in the English lexicon? If there is, may I meet him, her, or them? It certainly helps to have a large vocabulary to learn any language, but only knowing all the words might not significantly help you. Simple, yet meaningful words that you can use in everyday situations are all you need; fancy words are not necessary.
3. “Living in an English-speaking country is necessary for effective English language learning.”
This statement is simply erroneous. Yes, it will certainly help if you are in a country dominated by the English language because you are surrounded by people who speak it. However, even if you happen to live in a nation where English is not the primary language, it does not mean that you will not have the capacity to acquire and learn the language. There are many examples of this such as the English scholars here from the Philippines and in other countries. We have English teachers and students who are able to use it in their daily lives. So, if you truly want to learn, your surrounding cannot abate your capability of learning the language.
4. “There is only one correct pronunciation for English words.”
Some people believe that there is only one way to pronounce a word. But because the English language has been evolving, we are aware that the said statement is invalid. There are many examples of this word, like the word “aunt”. It has two pronunciations: "ant,” like the insect, and "ahnt,” which rhymes with want. Another example is the word almond, which has three pronunciations. First is "ALL-mund” — “L” is pronounced, and th “al” sounds like “all”. Second is "AH-mund" — “L” is not pronounced. The last one is "AW-mund” — L is not pronounced, and “a” sounds like aw.
5. “I’m too old to learn English or any other language."
It is unfortunate that many people give up on language learning because they're old. There is a saying: “You cannot teach an old dog new tricks!” But this is not true; yes, learning a language will be more difficult for you than for a child, because children still have a strong memory and can absorb information easily. Adults, on the other hand, possess motivation, experience, and knowledge that can aid in language learning. So, do not give up on learning a language or anything just because you are old, because when it comes to learning, there are no barriers.
6. “Learning how to speak English takes a long time.”
It actually depends on the student. When you are motivated and teachable, you will be able to manage it efficiently, quickly, and effectively. However, if you truly want to master the English language, it will take a long time. It may take several months or even years. Simply put, when learning any language, just have fun and fully immerse yourself. Only then will you become proficient in the language you are learning. Therefore, persevere. You can succeed!
7. “British English is the only ‘true’ English”.
It is a misconception to think that British English is the original form of the language persists throughout the world. In actuality, American English has managed to hold onto many of the traits that the British brought with them when they immigrated to the New World. The British lost some of these subtleties to the languages over time. Having so many "correct" versions of a language may not seem tidy and orderly, but that is the reality. All of these English translations are, of course, occasionally interchangeable. So, there is no “correct” English because the language changes depending on the location and situation.

Every year or two I scroll through the Wikipedia list of misconceptions and find/refind the funniest shit.
I'm just imagining furious historians like "how dare you accuse them of trying to deceive people they went there and saw ice and named it Iceland, this slander has gone on for too long! They did do that with Greenland though yeah they straight up lied."

Bruh what.
Lemme get this straight... Chlorine doesn't actually have a smell. So the classic 'pool smell' that you're so familiar with isn't actually from the chlorine in that pool... It's actually from chloramines, which only form when a chlorinated pool has been peed in...
How much pee is in that pool?
Don't pee in the pool (it's worse than gross!)
Excuse me while I never swim in a public pool ever again.

UNDERTALE SANS AND PAPYRUS COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS (TUMBLR POST VERSION)
video
(recently i posted a video so i decided to make it into a tumblr post for people that dont want to pause to read the text and instead want to scroll)
hi
this post is about sans and papyrus and the many common misconceptions about them
lets start with the most popular
PUNS
despite how sans is depicted in many fan comics he does not say a skeleton pun every sentence
the closest thing would be when you first meet him but even then he doesnt say many
he likes different types of jokes more like for example the telescope interaction

as you can see he knows more than just skeleton puns
now to papyrus
many people assume that papyrus hates puns however that is wrong
the reason papyrus gets mad at sans for telling puns is becus he thinks specifically those are bad
and even then he smiles at them (the corners of his mouth go up) involuntarily but still
he himself even makes more puns than sans

now lets continue
FAVORITE FOODS
in many fan comics sans is shown to be drinking ketchup and its sometimes even said to be his favorite food (or drink idk)
in the game he has it inside his station that is becus he sells "hot dogs"
he did do drink it once

its not confirmed but based from this and some other dialogue ketchup could be his favorite food (or drink)
however he is not "obsessed" with it like some people portray him like
do you know who does have a confirmed favorite food?
papyrus
and it is NOT spaghetti
this is revealed in the 2016 UNDERTALE Q&A

if you havent read through the Q&A then you should (here) and with that lets move on
SCIENCE
sans has many ties to science
i dont have much to say about this he just kind of does
here are some examples
(i hit the max image limit here so check post number 2 to see the rest)

That's not Biblical: When the Magi Visited Jesus
Though the magi are often depicted as being present for Jesus' birth, the Bible specifies only that they visited before Jesus was 3.
"When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men." (Matthew 2:16)
